I just bought this car three days ago. The day I bought it we received about a foot of snow! Not only was this car unstoppable on snow or ice once the awd kicked in I could go anywhere! No more getting plowed into the driveway! Also the gas mileage is great and I was so surprised by how fast it heats up and how easily it starts even in the coldness of Iowa winter. Love this car!

Loved it until the transmission went out

I bought the car with 123,000 miles on it, I loved it and it drove very well but the transmission went out on me after 3000 miles. I had bought the 2.2 4 cyl. AWD DO NOT BUY THAT MODEL, the mechanic said it was notorious for being a bad transmission, and they are nearly impossible to find. If you do get a Saturn Vue, get the V6 version, the engine and transmission were made by honda and I'm sure will last you much longer.

Bought this car a few years ago. Since I've had it, the BCM went out, had to get the master cylinder replaced TWICE, went through countless calibers and brake pads, brakes locked up at least once a week, horrible mileage, had an exhaust leak, every one of my flex pipes were broken, starter broke, interior lights stopped working, the horn would get stuck, theft system was a joke, hatch would not stay up, and on top of all that its the ugliest car I've ever had

This 2003 Vue was the first car my wife has bought on her own.She talked him down to $1450 and we drove it home. My girls came out and cleaned it up while we were at work and it's not let us down yet,but we haven't owned it but for 7months.As of today I have put right at 20,000 miles on it and its been great. It needs a clutch but with 255,000 miles on it I would too.We just took it to the beach and I was getting almost 35 mpg,mind you we had it packed.5 people and luggage and it only costs us $12 to drive down there. We had just got rid of our 2012 Sonic because the mpg wasn't there, same trip in it,well we had to fill up before we got there and it is a smaller car with a smaller engine. We love our Vue and we plan on keeping it for a while.

Great...while it lasted

Up until I hit 220k, this car was a breeze. Bought it at 171k, it ran perfectly and shifted smooth. Ended up replacing all the suspension over the course of a year, rode and felt like a new car. The Vue was always lacking in power, don't expect to be racing around. 1st gear has tons of torque, a ridiculous amount really. Super easy to spin the tires, and you can get up to maybe 15 mph if you're pushing it before having to shift. Highway driving is annoying, car hovers around 3500 rpm cruising at 70 mph. Insurance is very expensive as well. If you can look past that though, it really is a great car. Only major repair was the alternator around 190k (which subsequently fried the battery), mechanic said it looked like the original. The trans is still going strong to this day, same with the engine. Starts every time, even during the winter when we had easy -20f one year. But. Ever since hitting 220k, the radiator fan went, o2 sensor has been on the fritz for quite some time, and most recently, the shift cables snapped. Parts for this car are ridiculous, I work at an automotive store and the fiancee works at a repair shop, and still repairs have been expensive. For a little saturn, this should not be so. Scrapping this car and buying an economy is the plan. For the dedicated, I could see this vehicle hitting 300k+ easy, it's just not worth it to me.

I just bought an 03 Saturn Vue last year and 3 days sitting in the driveway and the transmission went out. It only had 80 thousand miles on it and I had just registered it for $500 and I had just towed it from San Francisco run another $500. 4000 dollars later and thing died in three days. So much for reliability and all that other good stuff. If you're looking to buy a Saturn don't be an idiot, and if you already have one good luck.

Transmission went out, can not be fixed, entire new transmission, run away from any saturn vue cvt transmission. Car looks great interior and exterioir, but what good does it do if $5000 to replace transmission. I'll be junking it.major disappointment.

I love my car, that is no secret. Everyone who knows me... knows I love my 2003 Saturn Vue. I purchased it for way over it's value because I needed a reliable vehicle and I was not looking too hot in the credit realm. Within two weeks, the transmission went out. I called the dealership, they had to fix within the 45 day guarantee. They gave it back and it just hasn't been the same since. I have also dealt with the module going out and other various transmission issues. As much as I love my car, there is no way anyone can own a Saturn and not spend more on repairs than the actual value of the vehicle. Period.

Just like others has said. Do your Home work before buying one of these cars. At 130.000 miles the Transmission Went Out. Cost Around $$$5,000 said too said can not addord to put this much money into it.... They are really safe Cars... Went Air-Born On InterState 10 last Summer due too Another Car pushing my Wife off the Hwy.... State Troopers said, they have never seen a Car go 65ft Air-Born on two wheels and not Flipp Over. Only damage was busted air lost from driver side rear tire.... God Was With Us Mainly....

We got the Saturn in November of 2012 with 78000 miles on it. The transmission went out in January of 2013 with 81000 miles on it. This car is by far the worst car i have ever owned. It was nothing but stress for me. I ignored all the reviews and still go the car. Worst mistake ever. I will never buy another car from GM again..

I bought my '03 Vue in November of '08 for $2500 with 180K on the clock and a salvage? title. I now have 237k miles on it. I've only replaced the brakes, a wheel bearing/hub assembly, a rear drive shaft support bearing and U-joints in the 4.5 years I've enjoyed it. It just won't die! It always starts right up even on the coldest of Michigan days. The AWD is tremendous in the snow. Talk about value and reliability! I've received more than my money's worth from this vehicle. I hate rust and thus love the plastic body panels on this vehicle. Ten years old and it still looks great! I'd buy another V6 Vue in a minute!

My Vue went our last March. I didnt drive it much I had it for 3 years. I bought it at 54,000 miles on it. Sadly enough had I driven it more it would have been covered when the tranny went out.it was a month after the deadline. I'm surprised people are still selling the 2002-2005 at 8,000. They are only worth about 4,000. It was a decent car. It's not worth 8,000,considering the transmission in it costs 5,000 to replace. Oddly enough I would consider buying a 2007-2009, but GM is so hard to deal with.

I bought my Vue used in 2004 with 16,000 miles. I have had a couple of big things go wrong (transmission control module, water pump), but that's to be expected in a 9 year old, lower end car. I bought an after market extended warranty for $1,500 that is still in effect even now, and it's been worth it. I now have over 120,000 miles on it and I still feel like it's very reliable. My sister in law also had one - rolled it 9.5 times on the interstate and walked away with just bumps and bruises. Very safe!

I purchased the 2003 model in 2009 without doing my homework. 13 months later (after the one year warranty expired) the tranny went out.Cost me 5200 to fix 3wks later the front differential is starting to go out, quoted price:5600 to fix. After new tranny was put in my mpg dropped from approx 13 to approx 6mpg. If I wasn't locked into payments I would have scrap heaped this piece of junk when the tranny went out. Most regretted purchase of my adult life. Saturn/GM dealerships have been useless. Don't buy 2002-05 Saturn Vue or Ion! VTI transmission failure expected by GM but no recall issued. I have a 2003 Vue with 67k miles that is now worth scrap metal because I cannot afford the $5500 rebuilt transmission. My car is only worth $6500. I never received written notification or was notified by the Saturn Dealership during routine maintenance. I cannot afford a new car payment; which is why I took care of my Vue - so I wouldn't have to. GM lost class action to replace these transmissions but filed for bankruptcy and received government (taxpayer) bailout before owners notified. Class action re-filed with "new" GM to compel to provide owners with relief.

My Saturn (which we purchased used) has been great...until recently. We put a lot of miles on the poor thing and use it for all that it's worth and it still starts up! If you're looking for a car to get you from point A to point B with no particular thrills or any real "excitement," then I would absolutely recommend only this model. However, I highly recommend you DON'T tow anything heavy with this car...it just can't handle it! However, I have no real complaints (didn't replace the clutch until recently and have only started to see some problems with the car). She has almost 168,000 miles and she's still going (fairly) strong. Go VUE!

I bought this car new in 2003, and was very happy with it for the first six or seven years. I am now holding my breath because I have the infamous CVT tranny. I have less than 65,000 miles on it, but won't drive it out of town for fear that the tranny will fail. I am amazed at the number of people who have bought this car in the last year or two. Any amount of research would have revealed the issue and the 2007 class-action suit filed against Saturn. The judgement was against them, and they were told to cover 100% of repair/replacement costs. Since GM filed bankruptcy, they have weaseled out of that and will only cover half. Half of over $7500 is waaay too much!

We had the Vue for one week and the moon roof broke...then the transmission went out. We were told only a Saturn dealer could fix it and we took it to the dealer and they said it would cost $7600 to fix it! We traded the piece of junk in...it wasn't worth it! Do not buy this car! I bought my 2003 Saturn Vue 4 cylinder with a 5 speed manual transmission. I read on this site that the CVT were garbage but the manuals were worth the money. I love my car. I drive back and forth about 120 miles per day working about 1.5 hours away from my home. I bought the car with 70,000 miles on it. I just passed 105,000 miles and it is still running strong! The car is fun to drive. The only improvements I would have is that create stain free carpets and a quieter ride. The car is a little noisy on the highway. Saturn Customer service could be a little better because when calling for a particular part, I was given the run around. All in all, a great buy for the quality and price.

It is a great basic car to get you to point a to b and hopefully back to point a. NO frills no thrills it's great on gas I can get about 320 miles mostly city driving some hwy. It is not too comfy and doesn't handle the best. If you can forgo some points, it is a great daily driver. Just make sure you get the 5 speed the cvt stinks and will break. The engine is noisy and has no power just know you will not merge too fast, just use your head and pre-plan entry exit off hwy. It has held up nicely so far. had to replace ball joints, sway bar links and motor mounts with wear and tear any car will need this stuff. The 5 speed shifts nice it is made by Getrag, same as BMW supplier

I wish I had done better research. It fit the bill of decent mileage for a small SUV, BUT it's been trouble every few months since I purchased it with 80,000 miles. I'm dumping it as soon as I get a chance! The transmission would be covered by my extended warranty, but it's never that - it's the wires, the modules and connections that lead the transmission that I keep having to pay for. I'm so thankful for the extended warranty, because that has helped out with other issues like leaky valves, wheel bearing which was replaced and other misfires. Do NOT buy one of these lemons, they're SO cheaply made! The whole exterior is plastic and the mechanics are of equal quality.

There isn't enough characters allowed to explain the last four years with this car. It was in the shop more than it was in our driveway. We spent thousands of dollars in repairs only to be treated like dogs by the Saturn customer service. Have never experienced anything like it. Do not buy this car. Run fast. It is a money pit and has many flaws, major flaws. The latest was the computer system. Everything was acting all crazy. It would have loss of power. Sometimes it would start and other times it wouldn't. The brakes vibrated, the hood cable wore out the hood was stuck closed. The throttle body had to be replaced several times. Nightmare.

We purchased our Vue in March of 2008, the first weekend driving it the axle broke going up the steepest hill in our city. We were rolling backwards and could not stop, cost of repair 800. The next thing to go was in October of 2008, the BCM blew, the car would not start. Saturn told us it was not under warranty and not sure why it broke the repair would be $2000 Then the exhaust manifold cracked not only once but twice, cost of that $1000, when we replaced that we found that the bearings all needed to be replaced Dec 09.Most recent, our car stopped dead in traffic, we had to push if off the road, the car is not getting gas so it stalls unless you keep your foot on the gas.

Reliable but noisy

I bought this car new and now have 211,000 miles on it. The thermostat and computer went out under warranty at about 25,000. The water pump went out at about 95,000, so I changed the timing belt at that time and it saved a bunch. Rear right bearing and hub went out at about 180,000. The big issue has been the tires. The rear tires get eaten up for some reason and get very noisy. I have to rotate the tires every 5000 to minimize this issue. The SUV is noisy in general, but most SUVs are. The vehicle is not smooth in acceleration or response to the throttle, it is jerky. But at the same time I have not had to do much to it for 211,000 miles of use! Front bearing and hub needed now.

4th Transmission now needed

I purchased my Vue in 2003--after owning 2 different Saturn Sedans. 6 mos after purchase had to have both rear wheel bearings replaced. Then came the transmission problems. I am about to have the 4th transmission put in in only 96k miles. I am very angry GM will pay only 50% of the $4800 cost. I am disabled and on Social Security Disability and my funds are limited. I feel the trans should be replaced in full since this is the 4th time around for me. If anyone has any one has had any luck.

Saturn VUE equals junk

We have had our VUE for 7 years. We had to replace the wheel bearings, $450 each, between 50,000 and 65,000 miles. It now has 107,000 miles and guess what.. we are once again replacing them. What other vehicle has to do this. Also, motor in rear window wiper gone after 60,000 miles, cord to raise the hood has had to be replaced twice. The clutch in the 4 speed was replaced at 40,000 miles, I could go on and on. Those cars are junk! GM was very smart to dump them. Although some work out ok, most don't.

I have to say our 2003 Saturn VUE is a fun SUV to drive. Only issues have been, NONE! New set of tires and regular maintenance. It is now a secondary car for my husband to drive in the winter. I have been driving it lately due to issues with our 07 Outlook. Cannot believe that we have had it 7 years and it still looks as good as the day we drove it off the car lot. Was ticked off the day I heard GM was stopping production.

I bought my Vue with 20,000 miles and the VTi transmission. I also purchased from my credit union an extended warranty ($1,440) for 5 years. Has it ever paid off. As of 06/08/10, approximately $11,000 has been paid out for repairs - transmission 2 times, timing chain problems, wheel bearings ($1,000) and various electronic problems. I still love the car, but in October, 2010 the warranty ends. I am not sure if I can buy another warranty or not. If not, goodbye to the Vue. I am not sure what to buy next, but for sure it will have an extended warranty purchased with it. I feel sorry for those who had to pay for their repairs.

This car was clean! Bought it used and 6 days later the CVT transmission went out. The dealership took it back because it was too costly for them to repair and they said the mechanics would not stand behind it if they did. The CVT transmission is junk!

We bought our's used at 80,000 miles. The transmission blew at 88,000 miles. After a long fight with Saturn I got them to cover half of the $5000.00 repair. The transmission just blew again....lasted 100,000 miles this time. We did not get any benefit from the class action lawsuit that Saturn settled because our mileage exceeded the settlement, but basically the settlement claims Saturn knew that they were producing bad transmissions that blow around 80000 miles. They of course deny it. I also replaced multiple ball bearings. Horrible. Cheap. Worthless.

I have a '03 Vue 5 speed manual and my Vue has been very dependable. It has been from Florida to Kentucky and back twice and all in between. The only problems I have had are the squeaky steering wheel, had the deal greese for $50.00, problem fixed. The entire rear end shakes when applying the brakes. Need to have all 4 done.

I just purchased what I believed to be a nice little reliable SUV, WRONG! After buying it I was driving it home and half way there the transmission failed! Completely gave out, I have a full 100 point inspection done before purchasing it and it cleared everything no problems. Even the transmission according to the inspection was in perfect running order. I am now having to pay between 5000-7000 to replace it and am out a vehicle. I had no idea I was getting such a piece of junk when I bought it. I would never buy a Saturn again and warn anyone to stay clear away. I wish I had seen all these negative reviews before purchasing it!

I bought the VUE new in September of 2003 and have loved it. I've always had good gas mileage and it has always been dependable. After owning it 6 years I finally had to replace the battery (replaced the tires at 5 years). The only major problem I've had was an electrical short that cost me $1000 to fix. I first took to a Saturn dealer in December and they tried but obviously did not have anymore experienced mechanics. I finally took to my local GM dealer (Chevrolet) and it took a couple of trips but their mechanic knew what he was doing! It still runs great and this is the 3rd Saturn I've owned and I would buy another if Saturns weren't being phased out!

We purchased this vehicle brand new and have had it for 6 years. It has always been a very reliable vehicle but when there has been an issue and something need to get fixed it has always been a very expensive repair. For example rotors, brakes, the 100,000 mile tune up, but now we have had 2 repairs in the last month the first cost $1,200 and the second one is $2,500, both have been engine problems. So now we are going to say good-bye to our Saturn.

I would like to say please rethink buying a Saturn Vue, the VTi transmission in this car is prone to premature failure. Something I wished I had known prior to making my purchase in 2003. The transmission on my 2003 Vue had to be replaced at only 43,434 mile, which was replaced in April 2008. I had not only bought the 4year/48,000 mile Service maintenance package I also purchased an extra warranty for the Mechanical Failure Service Contract for 6 year/72,000 miles. Wish this did save me, because the first one was covered under the warranty. However! I bought my Saturn VUE used in 2005. It had 42,000 miles on it. I love it. The only problem I had with my is that the battery died last year. That was the first time I'd changed it since I got the car. The only complaints I have about the Vue is that you can hear outside noise, it rides a little rough and the interior is cheat. Other than that I love it and have had no problems and I would recommend the VUE.

I bought my Saturn VUE New in 04/2003 fortunately I got a stickshift 5-Speed. Had to put new brake shoes on at 115,000 miles, today I am going to the dealer and get a quote for rattle in front end (Been doing it for 2 yrs. Bushings) and a whining noise (probably wheel bearings) the steering wheel squeaked really bad 2 or 3 yrs. ago and Saturn Dealer fixed it = now it comes and goes with the weather & same with front end squeaks (I have lived in Leesville, LA. for 5 1/2 yrs now. Overall I got a Good Deal:) KEEPER oh, yeah did get the recall done on rear control arms or whatever they r.

this was the first car that i got to buy by myself...i have driven many, many miles - long highway trips between texas, utah, colorado, and idaho, and have never had a problem. Be aware when buying one of these. We had nothing but problems with ours. Stupid things such as washer fluid pump never worked, thermostat, check engine light was on the entire time that we owned it(2 years). Also head gasket and lower intake gaskets were starting to fail.Only 70,000 miles. Make sure that when they change your oil that the filter is changed, not a conventional oil filter. I would not recommend any of the VUE models, not a good design. If you must get a Saturn stick with a SC series small car.

I bought at about 30,000 miles in 2006. Since then, have had to replace 2 wheel bearings- soon to be 3, the whole front axel, sensors, the ac sensor and $1500 in other parts, etc. Total of costs I have had to put into it are half of what I paid for car! Now I understand why Saturn cars are no longer being made!!! PS. I had problems with areas of car that were on warranty. I had car into dealer 3 times before warranty up cause I had problems...they waited unti warranty up to actually figure out what was wrong and wouldn't cover under warranty..Said it wasn't there warranty to make the choice.

We bought this used, 85,000 miles on it, 30,000 later we learned that the transmission had a fracture and was leaking fluid. Beacuse no mechanic wants to take the things apart, it wasn't learned of until it was too late. We replaced it with a brand new transmission ($7000), and about 18,000 miles later it became completely fubar from the inside. Now we have no choice but to sell it and hope and pray the warranty we have will help us. I'm moving onto the 09 CR-V

I bought this car used in 2007 for $8,000CAN with 110,000km on it (68,000 miles). Shortly after that it needed a drive chain, which was about $1,000. Everything was fine after that until last week! Although I love the look of this suv, I am disgusted that my transmission just blew at 143,00km (89,000 miles)! My mechanic said the transmissions in them are weak and prone to fail. They cost more to rebuild than to replace, and the cost of to replace the transmission is about $5000 all said and done. Unbelievable! It is not worth spending that kind of money so I'm left with a vehicle worth about $800 and have to purchase something else. Very disappointing that this was not a RECALL.

Have had my Vue (bought used in 2004) without any problems until the last 6 months. Transmission acted up, dealer purchased from wanted $5K to replace. Fortunately I found an honest Saturn deal who not only honored the GM lawsuit and only charged me 25% to repair, but when the repair did not work replaced the transmission for free. I love the car roominess and mileage, but I'm just planning to get another year out of while I save for a replacement. Good luck to others, since GM is bankrupt they likely will no longer honor the terms of the lawsuit.

It is 2009 and I have 870000 kilometers and had transmission problems since last year but now the transmission has quit completely. We called Saturn Canada and they have towed our VUE at their expense to North Bay Saturn for inspection. If the vehicle in their opinion "has not been abused" they will absorb most of the cost of replacing the tranny. We bought the VUE new and drive it from April to Jan. as we go south for the winter- the reason for the low milage. I'm afraid they will tell us that the fault is our s even though we have reported the problem to them twice in the last year with "no problem found". If it gets fixed I am trading it in for another brand. I won't buy another Saturn.

I have had this car since September of 2002 and have put over 105,000 miles on it. I just recently had my 100k mile service done and did have a few things to replace (wheel bearings, strut, brakes/brake pads) but up until this point it has been nothing but basic maintenance. I change my oil regularly every 3k-4k miles and have gone on quite a few 1000+ mile trips with no problems at all. I've also lived in cold wintery climates and it was a dream to drive in the snow. The VUE will definitely be on my list for my next new car.

Bought the 03 VUE used w/ 60K on it. Have had it in the shop for minor things, (compass came out of mirror, squaky steering column, etc) repairs costly. Okay ride but noisy at high speeds, low quality shocks. Enough power to take on Mtn highways and some dirt trails, easy to maneuver in city traffic. Cheap plastic interior and easily stained carpets and seats. But somehow, I still like it!

I love my saturn vue. It runs great. I have had no major problem with my vehicle. I take in regularly to get checked and they have never ever tried to sell me something I didn't need or ask for. I have 74000 miles on it and have no problems worth complaining about. Maybe taking the car in for regular checks would help some of these people with there problems. When my vue actually does go and i need another vehicle i would most definitely buy another vue.

This car was even more than we thought it would be. We bought this to replace our gas guzzling Crown Vic, and we have loved it ever since. Our model is a standard transmission, so I find it is actually quite peppy for a 4 cylinder. It doesn't really ride that well, but you can't beat that the car as 145,000 miles and it's still going strong. I also find that the fuel economy is great, usually a typical 27 MPG combined. A standard changes everything about a car, so when people say the 4 cylinder (which is NOT a V4...those don't exist) is sluggish, you can guess that theirs is an automatic. My only gripe is that it isn't great in the snow, but four snows fixed that in a jiffy!

I'll sum it up. At 60K miles, our engine blew up (literally). Saturn claimed it was our fault for missing an oil change. The car has had the transmission repaired under warranty four times. Twice it had to go back immediately after the drive home. It's my belief that the 4cyl VUE is severely underpowered, and the transmission was a failed experiment. The car hasn't been reliable, turns like a semi, has no acceleration, and doesn't get good gas mileage for what you'd think a tiny engine should.

Bought it used with a rebuilt transmission and 50,105 which went at 55,020. GM had done anything to fix this issues of thousands of bad VTI's transmissions for 2002-2004 4wd Vue's. We bought to replace a too small Honda Civic. I loved it for the first year and it's been nothing but problems since. We had to replace the thermostat and the driver's side seat heater. he check engine light goes on and off all the time and the low coolant light comes on and off as well. The brakes don't last and now we have coolant leaking out and mixing with the oil. Getting rid of it as soon as possible!! Loved the interior design, just hate the problems.

The front suspension is poorly designed. The transmission gives you whiplash every time you put it into drive. The valve covers leak like Niagra Falls. Tried to fix valve cover leak, found you had to take the intake off to replace the valve covers and spark plugs. Would cost $500 - $600 to have Saturn replace these parts. What a joke, who approved this design. Tranny clunks into drive. This issue started very early on and was defined by the dealer as standard operating procedure. Oil filter cover had to be replaced, overpriced at ~$30, should of been free (had a design issue which was fixed) the attendant just laughed at this sug. You will never ever find me at a Saturn/GM dealership again

The VTi transmission in the 2003 Vue is very bad. After we had paid our car off last month, we were driving home from the in-laws and the Vue went into "default" mode, not allowing us to drive more that 20 MPH. After we researched the problem, our transmission was shot, with a $6,000 estimate for repairs. Research the transmission issues if you consider buying this car. Besides that, we liked Saturn but will most likely never buy another Saturn.

I've read the reviews and it appears to be a love /hate relationship with owners. For me, the VUE is the best GM product I've owned to date. Several long distance trips have provided mileage in excess of 30mpg. 5 speed with the four so not familiar with tranny problems. Was back to the dealer once with stabalization recall. Comfortable and safe. Thumbs up at 56K

We bought our 2003 AWD V-6 because my wife liked the styling, the AWD, the 4 doors and heard Saturns were good cars. Please take it from me, it's junk. The front end rattles and shakes. We have had brakes replaced, tires replaced, it still shakes. The transmission just went out, a $5,900 fix, more than the car is worth! The Saturn dealer said it would cost more to rebuild the transmission than to replace it with a new one. To me, that is simply crazy. Buy a Ford or a Toyota but stay away from this piece of junk!

This is my wife's car and I was skeptical when we bought it but it has been the most trouble-free vehicle I have ever owned (better than Civic and F-150). Ours has the Opel/Saab 3.0 V6 and 5-speed slushbox. Haven't driven the newer Honda-powered models but I doubt they have the flat torque curve of this German engine (Honda engines in my experince are gutless down low but have lots of power up high). The engine is silky smooth has a wide torque band from idle to redline so it feels stronger than its advertised 171hp. Shifts are crisp and suspension is taut for an SUV. We were hit hard in this car and it protected us well (should have totaled it based on what it ended up costing to fix

Bought this used over a year ago and it has had numerous issues. Shifter assembly, bad struts, leaky seals, motor on rear wiper went out and now clutch is out. Tires also highest price ones on market to replace. Was conned into extended warranty but nothing yet has been covered by it, and now it has expired. The window buttons are in an awkward spot in the middle and collect dust really bad with deep finger wells. It now has 91,000 miles and I'm not sure it will make it to 100K. Researched numerous issues about transmissions and bad timing chains which cause motor failure. This vehicle is not well built and I will never buy Saturn again. I have spent more on repairs than payments.

We purchased our VUE 5 years ago. It was still too new to do any real research. We have replaced the A/C compressor, ECM (computer), and the transmission is very difficult and expensive to work on and most places tell us to take it to the dealer. The service manager at the dealer told me that "GM dumped these transmissions on us." Our family has purchased five Saturns and the '03 VUE is definitely the low water mark for Saturn. My '97 Saturn SL-2 is still a much better vehicle than the VUE even though it is six years older.

I brought this car five years ago and it was the bes the best until I had some problems. The car was mixing fuel, coolant, and grease together and making the engine overheat. The horn stop working and so did the CD player.

I have a 2003 Saturn VUE with 87,000 miles on it. Below are parts that had to be replaced: * water pump at 42,000 miles * rear differential at 48,000 and 84,000 miles * heater motor * rear wiper motor *steering pinions Additionally, the leather seats have cracked on a side despite bi-weekly conditioning. I do not plan to purchase another GM product.

This is the worst vehicle I've ever owned. Around 25,000 miles, the wheel bearings started to go out, at $700 per wheel. By 43,000 miles, the transmission needed rebuilt, which GM did under a recall warranty. I traded the vehicle in shortly afterward. Even before the issues, this vehicle was slow, with a choppy, unrefined engine, and it feels "cheap" on the inside. Squeaky, cheap plastic is the typical choice in this car. I would not recommend it in any way.

I bought a used 2003 with 86,000 miles not from a Saturn dealer in June07. After only 2,000 miles I needed a new transmission which cost $4,000 and they informed me than, that wasn't the original transmission so the one I put in was at least #3. Just the other day mine took another ride on a rollback because of transmission problems. I only put 4,933 on a brand new transmission.They gave me a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty so everything is covered. Now they're trying to sell me a new one but will only give me $3000 toward a brand new one because they know mine is a big piece of junk! And it's AWD and loaded. I wouldn't wish this piece of junk on my worse enemy.

I have been driving my VUE for over 5 years. It has been commuting, shopping, playing taxi, camping, and climbing mountians in Hawaii and now in Europe (we're military) and we have never had any reason to complain because we take care of our VUE. In Europe there are no Saturn dealers and we have had zero problems with taking it to the Opal dealer to get it serviced when the struts had to be replaced - it is over 5 years old now some wear is expected. The traction control has saved my can on the wet autobahn a couple of times. The gas mileage is great - about 21 - 24 mpg at 80 mph. I will be buying a hybrid VUE whenever this one is about ten years old. Until then see you on the Zugspitz!

I bought my Vue brand new 5 years ago. Fun to drive, easy to carry large cargo and to transport adults with limited mobility. Once the car hit 100,000 it fell apart. I have replaced the transmission at 100,000, accelerator sensor, catilytic converter and exhaust valve, coil pack with spark plugs. Within the past year I had to replace the ignition and when the car was under warranty a cylinder head was replaced. After $10,000 in repairs, I would not consider another Saturn.

I purchased this Vue thinking it would be great quality. Since it is my 3rd purchase from Saturn. Great price for an suv. From the get go, problem after problem. I would gas up the vehicle to get on the freeway and the max speed it would go was 20 mph? got problem covered through warranty. Now a couple years later, my horn has gone out and thermostat sticks. $2000 worth of cost and Saturn says "no we can't help you, your warranty has expired." the car is only 5 years old. These problems should not be occurring I am trying to get out of this car but no one will take it for trade unless they gouge me! Ouch. I will never buy another Saturn they left a sour taste in my mouth and I don't like it.

I have had it almost 6 months and went from loving it to hating it. It is really pretty to look at but not pretty to own. One issue after the other. First I was told I would get mpg in high 20's in city and 30's hwy. Best ever has been 21mpg on hwy. Hard to start at random times. Started making clicking/zipper noises in steering wheel when you turn and had to be regreased and from what I read, it'll come back. Keep having electrical tape and plastic fall on my feet. Very noisy/rattles. Hate loud suspension. Hate transmission. Air bag light goes on and off at random times. Carpet/seats cheap and stain easily. Discovered all these things are common with the Vue. Trading it in at a loss.

I have had this since 2004. It had 24,100 miles and now 55,000 in 2008. I love the handle, feel, and roominess; however, it should be painted lemon yellow. 2 months after receiving it there was a recall. No big deal. One year and a month later it was creaking and the front stabilizer was replaced. 5 months after that it howled and a wheel bearing and driveline support needed repaired. 1 year later - new rotors & pads In 2007, it was in the shop 3 times - a front pipe separated from the flange so they replaced the pipe and catalytic convertor (remember that), the crank position sensor went, and then the accelorator sensor. Just now - a new catalytic convertor. I've been stranded 4 times

I've had the VUE for 4 years now, and about 48,000 miles. Bough it used with 10K, and other than oil changes, tires (Bridgestones wear horribly, but sick like glue!), and 2 sets of rotors and pads, the VUE has been flawless. With about 57K, I can honestly say this is a very solid vehicle. I've used it for towing, and with the 3.0 6cyl, it can haul a pretty heavy load. Average around town mileage is about 20MPG, HWY I can get up to 25MPG. As a 5 year old vehicle, I think it still looks pretty sharp, and I added some chrome nerf bars, an against the black body, it looks pretty sporty. This car is also loaded with the leather package, which included seat heaters. Overall..very happy.

I owned mine about 5 months when the engine needed to be replaced, 3 months later the transmission went. Only the Saturn dealer has access to Saturn parts so you pay dealer rates for repairs. Saturn has reviewed my case and promised to send reimbursement for transmission repair. Check is over 3 weeks late and all I hear are excuses about a new system...blah blah blah... other department...blah blah...working on it..blah blah blah. Before purchasing look into the class action law suit against Saturn for putting out this piece of junk.

My Saturn Vue has some positives and dissapointments. Positives, economical,speedy, handles pretty well, and looks pretty good. Negatives. Noisy inside picks up all road noise. Windshield angle and front post block vision to left, particularly at night. Had to replace struts, links and bearings at 43k miles at a cost of $1500.00. They are due again at 80k miles. Computer module went out at 50k miles. $500. Now on the third set of odd size tires. My Ford Explorer 4x4 is much more car for less money.

We've driven this car in town and on a 10 day trip. Never owned a Saturn before but we are surprised at our pleasure with the Vue. Has plenty of power and the ride is more comfortable than my Toyota Camry. Gas mileage is 20 mpg in town and 24 mpg on the road, which is lower than I like. I'd definitely consider a newer one next time I buy.

I bought this vehicle used with 50,000 miles on it. I knew what I was getting. I am 6"3" and wanted a roomy commuter that was fun to drive and got good economy. The Vue does all of this. Plus, I am fortunate to have the plastic body panels because the car is Black and shows no side damage. I chose this combination of 4 cyl/CVT because it fits my needs. If you want better acceleration and towing capacity, get the V-6. With the 7/70,000 warranty on the transmission I am not concerned. I chose the front wheel drive for economy and simplicity. I occasionally go over a mountain pass, but with the traction control and a knowledge of how to drive in snow, it is no problem.

I have the 2003 Vue and have had so many problems. I wish Saturn would do something to help us with the transmission problems. For those of us too honest to "accidentally" back into the salt water on the coast it is awfully expensive to replace a transmission ($5,000) when you haven't been driving it for very long. I don't believe I will ever choose a Saturn product again. No wonder north american auto manufacturers are losing out to foreign cars. Can't seem to get any help from anyone at Saturn either.

Saturn VUE - Not a Good Investment

At 3 months a number of on-board computers were replaced. The driver's mirror cover hinges broke off at 20,000 km and replaced for $120.00 CDN. It broke off again at 66,000 km. Had a number of other recalls, which seems typical today for most new N. Am. vehicles. I kept telling my dealership about the "buzzing sound" coming from my VUE's front end. I said it was the tranny. My dealership is great, but I am still baffled by no one telling me the 2002 and 2003 Saturn automatic transmissions (the VTi) were big problems - and were discontinued after the 2003 model. Tranny blew at 77,000 km. VUE is worth $2,500 less now than what buy-out at lease-end in 9 months will be. Loud road noise too!

The Saturn VUE is an affordable compact SUV. Its compact size allows for easy road management and drivability,in addition to the ease of transporting large items. The driver's seat I find to be quite comfortable with good back support. I would buy the VUE again, especially the green line with better gas mileage.

This is our 2nd VUE. First ('02 4cyl, 5 spd) was plagued with problems. Transmission, suspension, and A/C failures. Traded up to '03 V-6, AWD. Stuck with Saturn because we knew they had a good product. Drove several Saturn loaner cars for a week or two at a time while our VUE was being "serviced", and they all performed flawlessly. No serious problems with this VUE, only minor service needed. My wife is very comfortable driving it. Likes the good visibility and handling. Feels very safe in it, and also when our teenage daughters are driving it. The stock Bridgestone tires are great for about 20K, and then they go to trash. Roof rack is great when traveling.

This is a great vehicle. I talked to several SUV owners before buying this one, and all Saturn VUE owners were enthusiastic about their vehicles. Other SUV owners were not nearly so positive. I've taken it on several long (600+ mile) drives and it rides great. Gas mileage is better than most, too.

I like my VUE. The vehicle I liked best out of recent years was my GMC Jimmy but I couldn't keep it away from the fuel pumps. When I found out VUEs are rated for 27 highway that got my attention. I have 80+ thousand miles, just bought new Bridgestones last fall and still have original brakes. You can hear it run thru the 5 aoutomatic gears as you accelerate but I kind of like that. I have had no problems in all kind of snow and ice and the only time I was afraid of getting stuck was in MUD. It didn't let me down. I like the outside distinctive styling and the interior is comfortable if it is plastic. I have spent some money on repairs but not out of reason.

While I have enjoyed the VUE, the durability of this GM product has left me thinking I should have bought a Honda! I have had 5 visits to the shop for front end issues in the last 6 months and all were right after the 36000 mile warranty expired. I was smart and you would be too to buy the extra warranty if you purchase a VUE. Front wheel drive does not handle as well in snow and wet as does a CRV for example.

For the first 2.5 years of ownership, I drove 49 miles one way to work (mostly highway). I average right around 24 mpg which I find pretty good for an SUV. Folding the front seat I was able to get 10' 2X6's in and close the gate (had rest the end of the 2X6 on the dash - but still). I'm constantly amazed at how much I'm able to cram into this thing. After a baby shower I was looking at all the large gifts and planning my 2nd trip - but it all fit (with room for me and a passenger). In just over 3 years I have 95k miles on it and no mechanical problems (I'm even on the original brakes!)

I purchased my Saturn the exact day I moved to Anchorage, AK. My husband bought a Ford F350. My husband had several issues with sliding and such with all the snow and ice. In the 3 years I have owned my Saturn VUE I have only had 2 situations that involved me sliding on the ice, and they were both at corners, where I was turning. I felt the back end slide around just a bit as I pushed on the gas to turn. Both times were corrected by simply releasing and reapplying the gas pedal. I couldn't ask for a better car. It's traction has kept me safe and sound for three winters in Alaska. Sure put my husbands 4x4 pick up to shame.

Our 2nd & last Saturn. Pricing very high for type. Too many things optional vs. Asian models, esp. with fixed price. Terrible depreciation (>25% in 2 yrs). Really annoyed we could not use their 0% financing. Had to order one to get side airbags. 0% expired by time we got car. Very poor interior quality. Too much plastic. Hazard switch and visor mirror broke. Carpets thin like paper. Carpet and seat fabrics stain quickly & don't clean up well. Plastic is porous and holds crayon and other stains, unlike my '95 SUV that I sold with 135K. Noisy engine but very powerful for this size car. Terrible torque steer. Poor mileage for a 6 cyl. Several other SUVs that year would have been better bet.

Bought the '03 VUE (4cyl/5spd) for my wife 3 years ago, it now has 74,000 miles. Have many squeaks and rattles that have never been fixed. Factory tires were bald at 30K, replaced with Yokohamas that have worn well. Extremely loud road noise. Not pleased with the gas mileage, get around 23mpg overall, about 25-26 on the hwy. A strut bearing and something with the computer has been replaced under extended warranty, aside from that it has been cheap to maintain. It does fit both of us well, she's short and I'm tall. I used to sell Saturns and was confident in their quality. Have not seen the same quality in the VUE as in an SL series.

Bought our '03 4cyl FWD new in Mar '03. Traded it in Dec '05 with 30,000 miles. Ok acceleration for a 4 cyl although gas mileage was disappointing (20 city/25hwy@75mph). CVT transmission was always sluggish/erratic and two different Saturn dealers couldn't notice any problems, even with the letter about 6yr/75K CVT trans warranty due to problems. Overall noisy powertrain/ride and lots of little problems. Probably had 8 different warranty claims (rattling spare tire jack on delivery, failed engine ignition module, rattling exhaust shields, sun visor that flopped down, broken seat belt holders, etc) Traded for a Ford Freestar that has similar gas mileage, more room and much quieter ride.

I wanted an all-wheel-drive vehicle with a reasonable price, good fuel economy and enough leg and head room to accommodate my 6'3" frame. The VUE seemed to meet all these desires as well as any vehicle on the market. I still appreciate many of its features - - AWD traction, passing power, passenger room, decent MPG by SUV standards, comfy seats and a smooth ride. But this VUE has presented substantial repair costs since the warranty expired (it now has 66K miles). On my dime, I've had two wheel bearings, the rear drive module, another bearing and a suspension link replaced. Some small issues were resolved under warranty. All in all, it seems a long list of repairs for a 3-year-old car.

Ever since I purchases the VUE, I have had nothing but trouble with the transmission. I had so much trouble that they had no choice but to extend my warranty for the transmission. I have been back and forth to the dealership at least 10 times. Every time I go in, the problem does not get fixed. If they do "fix" the problem, it stays "fixed" for about a month before the transmission starts to act up again. I have had at least 3 loaner cars while they tried to fix mine. Since I did have to have the loaner car, I am not going to buy a model from another dealership that I drove while my Saturn was being "fixed".

I just bought this car, but I am loving it already. I have the V4 manual, and it is FAR superior to the V6 automatic of the same vintage. It's got a lot more pickup and spunk than its counterpart - so if you are interested in this model/year/make, and know how to drive a stick, buy this one. It's got all the bells and whistles I could want except an MP3 jack and in-dash CD changer, but that is an outside upgrade anyhow. Tons of space and a really nice ride...I highly recommend it!

My 2003 VUE has 70k miles now. I have used it mainly for long distance highway travel. It is a great car for short around town hops but the seats are awful for long drives. The cushions are too short and the armrests are way too short as well. The interior is roomy albiet noisy. The engine is becoming increasingly noisy and the build quality is only fair.

I love and still have my 1993 Saturn SL, so when I was in the market for a new car, Saturn was my choice. Sadly I made a mistake, since our purchase, we have had a recall for the rear suspension, had to put in a new transmission and put up with "shoddy" workmanship. My 1993 SL1 drives much quiter and better. No wonder GM is in trouble.

My 2003 VUE has been less then a joy to own. The day after I got it I cried all the way to work because it was so uncomfortable. I drive 50 miles one way. I should have gone straight back to the dealer and returned then. The window switches needed to be replaced before I took it home. The rotors on the brakes went at 24,000 miles and all four wheel bearings needed to be replaced by 50,000 miles. Only one was under warranty. (of course!) My airconditioning unit runs non stop even if it's not been on in weeks. The dealer says it's fine. My gas mileage in the city is around 15 mpg and barely 20mpg on the highway. Big big mistake keeping this thing. Now I am stuck with it.

This car really has problems….. I had the transmission re-built at 8,000 miles and then replaced at 35,500 miles. Had a binding valve replaced at 10,000 miles because the AWD would kick in for no reason, Saturn replaced something called a rear lateral link assembly at 30,000 miles (I guess this was a recall). The interior is cheap plastic, which seems to bother me when people ride in it because some people even comment on how cheap it looks. I have endless problems with the window sprayers malfunctioning. Overall this car has had way too many problems

Our VUE fits all of our needs. We went from two cars to one, and we couldn't be happier with the utility this provides. The interior looks kind of cheap, but that's OK. I don't mind hauling 2X4's, mulch, etc. in it since I don't have to worry about destroying a beautiful interior. We carry our road bikes, camping gear and ski gear in it. We've never gotten stuck in the snow. We also drive it to work in the city every day. Dent proof doors and tight turning radius are invaluable there. We've also taken many road trips, and it is very comfortable. Road and wind noise are awful, though.

My Saturn Vue is a five speed manual and it is so fun to drive! I have not had a single problem in over two years. It is extremely safe and great to travel in. I am in college so money is tight, but this gets excellent gas milaege. I usually get about 28mpg.

The VUE is one of the best SUVs around for price, with looks, performance and reliability. The layout of the center console is great, and both the driver and front passenger can control all the power windows and both power mirrors (If you have the power package). The design of the headlamps and grille are very unique.

I bought this Saturn Vue new and 6 months later I lost the transmision driving on the highway then it went downhill from there, little things one after another. Poor quality on the dash instrumentation, broke the hazzard light button twice, handle for the hood release broken twice. Issue with fuel guage malfunctioning seems to have been an issue with several GM models in southern Ontario. Heated seat not working anymore on driver's side. A few lights on the dash not working anymore. Was not impressed to learn that new tires where only available at the dealership only and they are quite pricey. Headlight bulb gone out had to go to dealer to have it replaced because I did not have in hand the GM screwdriver

I love my Vue, but I just had the transmission replaced at 15000 miles. I couldn't believe it! (that's why I rated the build so low) The dealership was super nice about it and of course they fixed it for free and paid for the rental car. I think the gas mileage is pretty good for an SUV. I get about 21 city and 26 highway.

This SUV has something for everyone. It's the perfect all weather vehicle. Heats up so fast in winter (get the heated seats too!) and a/c chills it fast in summer. Excellent for light towing and camping. Plenty of cargo space (get a roof rack..cheap). Sound system is excellent, fit and finish, ride quality all terrific after 20K +. Great in snow with AWD, and the mileage is still pretty good (20-26 MPG). The paint quaility is worth mentioning, and the polymer body panels have saved it more than once from dings and scratches. I've recommended to MANY people. I'm a Saturn convert.

Our Gas milage averages between 25-29 miles per gallon, our insurance is cheeper than the Subaru legacy (1996) that we were driving, and the car has little regular maintenance. We looked at many similar vehicles, and we are so happy that we purchased the Saturn VUE.

My VUE is my second Saturn. I chose the V6 for its additional power without giving up fuel economy- 20 city 26 highway. I wanted a larger vehicle because I now have a bad back, and the seat on the VUE adjusts to the perfect height to minimize the strain on my lower back. Also it is the perfect size for me and not too huge, like a Suburban or something. It handles very well for an SUV and I love it. Way to go Saturn and thank you for my VUE!

2003 Saturn VUE has had serious engineer flaws, to include suspension problems times two.The vehicle has 3 onbaord computers that do not function well & as a result will not report problems such as transmission slipping & completely going into a neutral state. The computer that controls the dash panel cause many of the warning lights to malfunction but never registered. No register, not get fixed says Saturn, unless they see it happen. I was luck on the way out it malfunctioned. The computer never registered a problem. Same thing with the transmission. Computer never registers an error.

I've had my Vue for almost a year now and it has had no engine or transmission problems. The truck is very economical for long extended road trips and requires very little maintenance. The VTI transmission definetly works best when combined with cruise control. Interior is very roomy and rear cup holder console is useful. The truck is easy to drive on the street, dependable and confortable. The traction control system is helpful on dirt roads. I recommend the truck to those who are looking for low maitenance, good gas milage and a compact designed that fits well in small parking areas. Good dealer service. The Vue is definetly not a sportscar.

This was my third Saturn, and I planned to keep it for 6+ years. So far it's been in the shop 14 times, replaced 2 wheel bearings, power control module in the on-board computer, clutch cable, rear window wiper motor, lubricated steering wheel 5 times for noise, and repaired AC which was installed incorrectly. I had the throttle cable stick open on an on ramp, almost causing a 5 car collision. I also had to "reboot" my car by turning it off and then on again when the computer malfunctioned in cold weather. I'm trading it in, so buyer beware!!!

This vehicle is a wonderful cross between a minivan and a car without being a truck. Built very well and has been extremely reliable mechanically - only real time it has spent in the shop has been for oil changes. Saturn's customer support is second to none! Did have a few bugs to workout after delivery, but they handled them with no hassle.

The overall design makes it convenient for the driver to be able to turn to see nearby traffic while at the same time there's plenty of space "leg room" in the vehicle for passengers. In other words, you get a ton of space in a not so bulky car.

In general, I have few complaints, but the ones I have are bothersome; specifically, I've been through 4 windshields in 1-1/2 years (full disclosure: I have 100 mile round-trip commute daily, on heavily travelled interstates). According to the Safelite windshield repairman, with whom I'm on a first-name basis, this is a frequent problem due to the windshield design. If you can get it with a wind/bug guard that redirects the airflow, the problem will be lessened. I also have some strange squeaks and rattles, and a lot of wind noise in the cabin. In general, though, a good car that reliably gets me to and fro in all weather conditions.

This car with less then 20K miles has had to have numerous repairs which each took several trips to the dealer including a broken ac system, replaced the the canister vent soleniod, cracked driver mirror b/c of water leakage, the service engine light has gone off five times for various reasons, and other small repairs. After two trips to the dealer and over 3 hrs of waiting, the dealership would not give a rental car as promised in the warranty I purchased from Saturn because they can only bill for 1.2 hrs, not 2. I would recommend never to buy this car, but anyone purchasing a Saturn Vue should question the quality of this car.

Don't buy this car!!! We ended up PAYING $5,500 dollars to get OUT of the car! It was in the shop reguarly and the service at Saturn of Metairie was the pits! NEVER got any call backs on trying to get out of the VUE; until we traded it in of course! The transmission gave us problems almost immediately...and service dept. could never pin point the problem...it was on going until we got rid of it! Don't make the same mistake! You won't save money in the long run! If you must make sure you like the service department....you will see them A LOT!!!

After comparing SUV's in the 20K range for a while, I settled on buying her the Vue. The interior isn't the best, but it works, is comfortable, and most importantly, is big for the price. The optional CD sound system is terrific. Spirited driving can be rewarded IF and only IF the driver is smooth with imputs to the throttle. The CVT does not respond very well to abrupt throttle changes, but is very acceptable for reasonable driving.

Compared to any other car I have ever owned, this car has been the most troublesome, less reliable car. Required several repairs, each of which took multiple attempts before the dealer could fix the problem. Both major issues were blamed (by the dealer) as design problems. This car was traded in (after owning it for only 14 months) due to the fact that I did not trust taking across country when moving. Although it was a great car to drive when it was working, the lack of reliablity caused this to be the worst car experience I have had.
