Truly the best vehicle I've ever owned! If they still made the tribute I would buy one immediately. We have had no problems with this car. We bought it new in 2003. The only problem with it now is that has developed a very slight oil leak; we lose very little oil and never have to replenish it between oil changes every six months. The only reason we are buying a new car is that the safety features of newer cars are important to have.

I bought my Mazda Tribute new in December 2002. I live at 6,000 ft elevation on a mountain. For the first 9 years of owning my Tribute, I commuted 100 miles a day, mountain road all the way. My Tribute had no trouble pulling the grade going up the mountain. It performs great in the snow with snow tires. It is a very stable vehicle. I now have 306,000 miles on my Tribute!! The only major repairs I have done is a new alternator at 175,000 miles, at 280,000 the radiator blew. When having the radiator replaced I had the coil packs and spark plugs replaced since they were still original!!! Other than those repairs it was just the normal stuff .. batteries, brakes and oil changes.

Great little SUV - even after 120K!

I am sad to say that I recently totaled my tribute and am now shopping for a new one. I bought my 03 used with 25k miles on it. I was super impressed with its reliability in the 6 years I owned it. Bought new tires once. Major tuneup before a trip at 100k. Other than that - just oil changes. Ran perfectly. It did have some wind noise which was slightly annoying, but certainly tolerable. Other than that, no complaints. It was the perfect size for our family of four..not too big, not too small. Pretty good mpg. And super fun to drive..very peppy lil guy! I'll miss my trib!

I bought it in Nov. '02. I just cleared 170,000 Miles. Sure! There have been some quirky issues. The most annoying: the illuminating light which shows you what gear you are in went out recently and there is a short in a harness that indicates the status of the airbag. I had my power moon roof switch replaced. Most expensive repair 150,000 mile tune up required the replacement of the "Coil Packs" on all 6 cylinders @ $118 each! With the other routine maintenance I had performed = $1000. Replaced the Battery @ 170,000. Replaced steering linkage arms "clunking" at 125,000. First tires went 70,000. Second set 70,000. Now in only the third set. Brakes, somewhere way back when. Oil! Thats it!

I bought my 03 Tribute LX 4WD at 95,000 miles and I've been happy with it every single day. It's amazing in the winter and even better in the summer! Everything still works at 106,000 miles a year later. The wheel bearing on the front right passenger side was broken when I bought it, unfortunately, and it wasn't until much later that I found that problem and the dealership paid for it. The crash test ratings are spectacular on this SUV! I was just hit a week ago by a drunk driver going 70 mph and I walked away without a scratch. My Tribute is in great condition save for a few cosmetic repairs. If I had been in a lighter SUV I would have rolled over. Definitely worth every penny.

IN balance, best ever

I've owned and driven a lot of vehicles in the past 40 years including a 63 Corvair, 2 67 Corvettes, big Plymouths, Mercurys and Cadillacs, and a Dodge Ram truck. My 2003 Tribute is clearly the best ever on an overall basis. The other ones did some things a lot better than the Tribute, but none did everything to the same good level. It has the most driver leg room of any car I've owned. I have used the temporary 4WD to go through some really hairy places. Put the rear seats down and it can carry a surprising amount of stuff. And it is surprisingly kind of fun to drive in most situations.

Great driving car and reasonable gas mileage. All was fine until 68,000 miles when the auto trans started slipping when shifting into 3'd. Upon disassembly the hub assembly P/N 7G120/a was found to have a cracked weld, unfortunately two new replacement hubs were also bad, took a third one and two weeks to be fixed. Other than this $2200 bump in the road it's been a great ride.

Bought my 2003 Tribute FWD LX new and have been pretty pleased overall. 90k miles, still has original tires with plenty of tread. However, have replaced wheel bearings (~$450), brakes and rotors, throttle cable sticks and steering wheel squeaks, even after several attempts to have fixed under warranty. Now, power steering fluid leaks, alternator is going bad (seems to be common problem), and rust is forming on the tailgate (water collects on the window frame). However, gets decent MPG (20 city/ 25 hwy) and drives great, handles snow and ice well with FWD. Comfortable seats and fits my 6ft frame with no problems. Ok overall, but wouldn't buy again compared to others.

My biggest complaint about this SUV is the turning radius. It's very hard to turn into parking stalls or make U turns in tight areas... impossible to do without doing a 3 point turn. The other thing is the road noise. It is very loud while driving. Need to turn the radio up to even hear it. Otherwise it's been a great little vehicle. The gas mileage is all right, averaging 19-20, except now after my tuneup, I'm getting about 15-16.

Buyer beware... save your money. This was the first car I bought new and was in love with it until the second day I had it and it wouldn't start. The car went back to the dealrship 5 times for this problem and they had no idea what was wrong, just started to change wires to play guess and check. My car shut down on the highway because the alternator went at 30,000 miles. Then my transmission went at 50,000 (no longer under warranty). Mazda won't do anything to rectify the piece of junk they sold me! They are not helpful and said these problems were my fault. 2 days old and broken... not my fault. This car is a heap of junk for all the problems it caused.

Have owned this vehicle for the past 5 years and love it. After 110,000 miles, it just got its 3rd set of tires (originals lasted 64,000 mi) and only other maintenance was oil changes. It snows here practically daily from Dec-Apr and my Tribute gets through all of it with no problem. Have another, larger SUV in the household, but take the Tribute when it snows. Gas mileage is just ok, but I can get 24 mpg on the highway if I watch my speed.

I love my Tribute. I wanted a smaller SUV and looked at several makes (Jeep, Ford, etc.) before deciding on the Tribute. It has great cargo space and the area around the driver is comfortable and very well laid out. The gear shift is on the steering column which took a little getting used to but now I love it. It opens up the console as more usable space. There are plenty of well designed cup holders and a flat floor across the back seat, making this the perfect ride for roadtrips. Even with 5 adults it's comfy.

This vehicle while scoring very high ratings is a stone cold gas guzzler. It barely gets 14 mpg. The ride is pretty rough and if you are tall with the sunroof addition you feel very cramped. The all wheel drive works well and for the most part the car has been problem free. I would never buy another Tribute though I would seriously consider buying another Mazda.

So far I've had to change the alternator. Replacement was done at the dealer (ouch) so I was given an OEM alternator with a whopping 1 yr/12,000 mile warranty. Nice going there. The shifter gets in the way too much. I notice if you put the SUV in park, it still has a tendency to roll a bit after you take your foot off the brake. Even after fixing the recalled accelerator cable, the SUV still has a tendency to lurch forward when taking your foot off the accelerator. Rear liftgate hatch has broken and won't lock. Cost of repair is over $300. High highway noise, not so good gas mileage, not pleased with Mazda overall.

I have always driven Mercedes - this is the best car I have ever owned - I drive 110 miles a day and it has been a wonderful car. The shift is on the column - probably the space would be less and I would lose those nifty pockets in the dash if it was on the floor.

This was my first time to make a large purchase on my own. After I saw my Tribute it was all done but the signing. I have a bad knee and wear a brace so it was very hard getting in and out of a small car, especially a stick shift. That clutch was killing my knee. Now I feel like a Queen and I can just slide right in and out of my new baby! And no clutch... Whoopee. The heated leather seats are better than "sliced bread" . I have to watch my speedometer because she runs so smooth my speed will sneak up on me. Of course my 7 grand kids all have different rules now. No feet in the seats, no food and no drinks, I've become Grandma the Grouch..LOL. Anyway, I love my new baby.

I bought this 2003 Tribute for my daughters who are competitive surfers as it has adequate room and a very good reputation. However, I like driving it so much they have to fight me to use it. I LOVE this little vehicle. It's just a blast to drive and it gets GREAT gas mileage. It's not the quality of my 2003 Toyota 4Runner, but it's more fun to mess around in and I'm not so burdened my the 4Runner's weight and size.

Mazda Tribute has done a great job on its compact car based performance SUV. It's certainly a SUV with a sports car soul. The 201-HP 3.0L V6 is powerful for exhilaration but not as much for towing. Measured 0-60MPH time was 7.48 seconds. The 4WD system works very well on snow, ice, and muddy dirt. The FWD system does show some very torquey steering, at least with the 6-cyl. The seats are sort of uncomfy, but only on long trips. Highway ride and performance is excellent. Handles bumps so-so. 7-speaker stereo works great. AC/heat works well. Reliability after 48k miles has been excellent except for some minor audio display twitches. Buy this car for a used car, and opt for the 6-cyl DOHC engine.

I love my Mazda Tribute ES-V6. It's fun to drive. I can go just about anywhere and it's absolutely awesome in the snow and ice. It handles wonderfully. It's nice for a change not to get stuck in my driveway. I drove it through blizzards and rainstorms and the weather hasn't scared me or it, yet. This is the most amount of fun I've ever had driving this SUV.

Well, this 2003 Mazda Tribute ES-V6 was probably the nicest compact SUV I have ever driven. Performance ... Pros: Don't let a 3.0L 201-HP V6 fool you. This car is explosively fast. Burning rubber and spinning tires from a stop. Cons: Loud exhilaration noise. Comfort ... Pros: Leather interior with heated seats are moderately comfy. Cons: Driving in the car for 2+ hours may make you feel stiff. Fuel Economy ... Pros: Regular fuel. Cons: 15 MPG in a suburban area. Fun to drive: Pros: A Ford Mustang in SUV form. Cons: None! Design: Pros: Sporty inside and out. Cons: Bland back seats. Build Quality/Reliability: Pros: 36 month lease reported only 1 problem-brakes. Cons: Still an American Ford vehicle.

This is my second Tribute and third SUV, no longer have the need for a 4x4 station wagon. Overall its been good (28,000miles), looking to trade it, seems to have a terrible trade in value, even towards a new Mazda sedan. Ford builds this zoom-zoom suv and they put on the worst tires, Continental Contra If I ever buy another car with Continental tires, I'm having them include new tires in the price. Gas mileage isn't great especially at $3.00 a gallon. With the 4x4 on, we're looking at 12 to 13mpg. You have to wonder, why did they stop making the EXCURSION?

Having owned my Tribute for almost 3 years, it is disappointing to see the check engine light come on and stay on after it has been repaired. For the most part, the Tribute is an extremely enjoyable ride for me, the driver. The passenger seat lacks the same support, so at sudden braking, the passenger may feel as though they are sliding forward. As a lease vehicle, it is a nice choice. However to purchase? Get the extended warranty beyond the given 50,000 miles/4 years. The interior cabin is very roomy, but noisy. In order to hear the radio with some clarity, it has to be turned up quite a bit while driving. You don't realize how loud it is until you restart it. Fuel economy is bad.

SUV is comfortable, stylish. Disappointed with the quality. 6-CD player has been changed 3 times, disappointed to find out I get refurbished CD replacement, not a new CD player, even under factory warranty. Steering wheel pin has been changed twice; starting to squeak again. Discs - front disc brakes have been replaced, braking is too low. Moon roof mechanism already replaced. Very disappointed with factory warranty, service and treatment. Not pleased with Mazda quality.

I love my Tribute, but it has been in the dealership 4 times for the same issue. Frequently the car does not want to start. The fuel pump was replaced twice. On the 3rd attempt, technical support was contacted and told to replace the IAC valve. It started up like a champ for a few days, then the problem occurred again. It also idles higher than normal since the IAC was replaced. On the 4th repair attempt, the engineers were contacted and the claim there is nothing wrong. According to research I've done on line, other people are experiencing similar issues, down to the fact that Mazda "claims" there is nothing wrong with the car.

I love this car but at 22,000 miles the transmission leaked; dealership put in a new transmission. Almost a year to the day the 2nd transmission with only 14,000 miles now has to be replaced again. The dealership is very rude and has an "oh well this happens" attitude. Very frustrating because what's to stop it from happening again next year? Mazda customer service is not much better. Accused me of not taking care of the car. Now the front wheel bearings are to be replaced. Haven't had much satisfaction from anyone. Am going to try Attorney General's office next.

I have been told by Kona Mazda/Suburu that the 2003 Mazda Tribute ES (may apply to other years and models) requires new rotors at approximately 30,0000 mile service...WTF. They state that they can't be shaved because they wear down just like the brake pads and do not groove the rotors thus allowing a mechanic to shave them. Further, Mazda dealer states a federal sticker is located somewhere on the rotor that warns or states not to shave them. Had they told me this when I bought it new...I would have never bought this piece of crap. That was my fourth and last Mazda. Hello Honda!

Wasn't sure at first, but have grown to like this vehicle. Good pep, sporty style, and easy on the eye. Only downfalls, are the interior collects way to much lint and dirt, and the gas pedal is too hard or sticky. But overall it is a good vehicle and am pleased. Good power, fun to drive. Problems are that the disc brakes and rotors wore out at abt 30,000 miles. Mazda agreed to pay for it this time as they should have lasted longer. Recently I have a great deal of road noise due to tires wearing in a strange way. They are not worn out, but still have to be replaced. This vehicle is driven mainly on the freeway and should not have these types of problems at this mileage. Also, there is a whistling that occurs on the drivers side at around 70mph. Not a good thing when you spend most of your time on the freeways.

Still Got the Zoom Zoom 1 Year Later!

Outstanding ownership experience. Traded a 2002 Millenia for my Tribute with no regrets whatsoever. Does everything I want it to do and more! Purchasing experience with the dealership wasn't good, to say the least, but service and maintenance with the local dealership has been fantastic!

This is my 2nd Tribute. My first was a 2001 and I had no problems with it. The only reason I decided to change out for a new one was when the 2001 tribute was about 8 mths old we were hit from behind and flipped onto the drivers side. 9k damage repaired (mostly cosmetic) it now had squeaks. The new one a 2003 does have several things that they changed that were for the better. Moveable headrests, lumbar on the drivers seat, reconfigured where the defrost button was, and changed the radio slightly. I had no issues with the Tribute the way it was, but these are good changes.

Never owned a mazda before and have been extremely happy. no issues, maintentance problems, drives smooth, nice interior, equip and knobs very functional. I cheaped out and got the 4 cyl-5spd and the 4 cyl is a bit weak, but fuel econ is great for SUV as i get 25-27 regularly. Very smooth, solid, car like drive. I bought due to the incentives and picked it over the Honda CRX and Honda Pilot. Chose Mazda over Ford due to styling and better warranty.

Love It!

I had an 89 Mazda MX6, bought new, that went through two babies...children, car seats, strollers, trips etc. Needed something bigger and loved the look of the small SUV...Escape as well as Tribute. The Ford dealer wouldn't move on the Escape price they tried to sell me an Explorer, ended up at Mazda and they worked with me. My heart was ultimately set on a Mazda having such great experience in the past and this was the perfect transition from a small car to an SUV. It surprisingly has lot's of space and is really fun and easy to drive. It's very comfortable and it's easy to see when driving (I'm a small person). I love the stylish look as well.

after driving the SUV for about 6 months now, I am glad I bought the Tribute ES V6 with leather. It is comfortable like a Toyota Highlander in size (a couple of inches shorter in the cargo depth) but atleast $5-7k less with Mazda rebates on S-plan. In fact the price was comparable with Honda CRV/Toyota RAV4 but WAY MORE comfortable than those compact SUVs.

I had looked for a vehicle for two years and narrowed my search to 4 vehicles, ultimately selecting the Mazda Tribute. We test drove all the cars but I liked the pickup of this vehicle, due to the V6 engine, the way the car handled, the spare was underneath the car and not attached to the backdoor, and I liked the layout of the interior. The car is fun to drive and is very smooth on the highway. Although it's an SUV and visually looks larger than some cars it's small in dimension making it easy to park and fit into the garage with ease. We have been on two long trips with this car and it was a pleasure both times. The gas mileage was very good for a V6 at 23/26.

I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP THREE TIMES BEFORE THE PROBLEM COULD BE FIXED. WE HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM GETTING THE VEHICLE STARTED SINCE THEN. WE WILL NOW HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK A SECOND TIME FOR A DOOR LOCK PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WILL HAVE TO ORDER THE PART TO DO REPAIR. THE GAS MILEAGE HAS BEEN LOWER THAN POSTED ON THE WINDOW STICKER.

Loaded except for Moon Roof. COuld not justify $15000 more for luxury SUV I really wanted but you know what they say about hindsight. Looks and handles great and no mechanical problems but long trips are unbearable due to road noise, no cruising range (300 miles max), and occasional luggage rack vibration. IF you seldom drive more than 100 miles each trip then you cannot beat this for a mini SUV. Great for younger crowd. For longer trips or boomers, look elsewhere.

I really loved my car when I bought it. It was fun to drive and had lots of features for the $$. However, it has only been 4.5 months since I purchased it new (had 60 miles on it) and the transmission has failed. Since this just happened two days ago, all I can say is the dealership still isn't really sure what is wrong with the vehicle and why it malfunctioned. It is just really upsetting to purchase something and have immediate problems with it.

Well worth it...

Bought this car in Jan 2003 after having a 2001 Kia Sportage for little over a year. This SUV is much better built and has so far taken me, in great comfort, to lots of new places...After much researching my boyfriend and I decided that this SUV has the right balance of features for the price as compared to the other cars in its class.

Lots of room inside...had a 2000 GMC Jimmy before this..that felt small and had far less power...eventhough the Trib is a little smaller it feels 10 times larger then the Jimmy. Great car, great design, great gas mileage too..zoom, zoom, zoom!!!

We bought a new Tribute in Sept 2003 and liked it so much that I traded in my Mazda Miata for our second Tribute. They are great multi purpose vehicles that aren't perfect, but do a nice all around job, both on the highway and city type driving.Hi what do you expect for 25K? We are very pleased with these vehicles at this point and would recommend one to friends.

The overall design is a class look, smooth ride and smooth responsive handling. The Tribute has less of a truck look then its brother the Escape. The Escape seems to have a more rigid supension and is a little more responsive in the steering, which taunts you to play a little harder with the Escape then the Tribute. No problems so far in the first six months of ownership with the Tribute except for a sore elbow from the cheap looking hard plastic interior door panels which need to be upgraded, along with the minor annoyance of wind noise, which is not a problem if you wish to have you music on all the time and loud.

I traded my 01 gas hog Dodge Durango (which I absolutely loved) in on my 03 Tribute. So far I am very pleased. I get 20 mpg driving back and forth to work and 25 mpg on the highway. I miss my big V8 but not the $35 it cost to drive each week. I looked at the Honda CRV and Jeep Liberty but Honda wouldn't budge on the price and wanted $$$$$ for options that were standard on the Tribute (luggage rack, fog lights) and the Jeep didn't get any better milage than my Durango and was uncomfortable. So far I am very happy.

I absolutely love this thing! I have over 5,000 miles and haven't had a problem yet. It's better looking than any of the others in its class and drives fantastic. This is our very first SUV and we are very happy with it. The power and handling is comparable to many sports cars and you get a higher driving position that gives you a panoramic view with little or no blind spots. Room is ample for both passengers and cargo. In my opinion, it is also the most beautiful small SUV in the market. And we like the fact that the road is not saturated with them.

I went to a Subaru dealer to test drive a Forester because my father owns one and he's very happy with it. The dealer I went to just happened to be a Mazda dealer as well, and they were offering a $5,000 rebate for the 2003 Tributes. I test drove one of the three that was left and totally loved it. I used to drive sport cars and this little SUV was comparable in both power and handling. The stock stereo system sounds great, driving position gives you panoramic view with hardly any blind spots, and I think it is one of the most beautiful SUV's out there.

I traded in a Mazda Protege for the Tribute and I love it!!! I have never owned a SUV before and I was a little leery about all the hype about the SUV's and safety. The Tribute handles very well and takes curves on the interstate as well as the Protege did. I feel much safer when driving/riding in it than a car. The interior is roomier than other SUV's I have looked at and the cargo space is great for hauling all the camping gear.

The Mazda Tribute is very fun to drive SUV, it handles more like a sports car then a truck and the engine is powerfull and refined. The styling has a more fun, sporty look to it compared to its Ford Escape counterpart, which by the way is everything the Mazada is except for more truck like styling.

I love this car! I was drawn to it by the more stylish body lines than other SUV's, but am really happy with the performance and comfort. This is a beautiful, but functional vehicle. It offers a very large cargo area, and it is very easy to unload groceries, equipment, etc. from the rear. Gas mileage isn't the greatest, but the fun of owning and driving this car more than makes up for that. The fold-down seats are really convenient and easy to use.

After 1 year of owning and driving this 'ute, I still think it is one of the best 'utes you can buy for the money. It is as roomy as a full-size SUV inside (I think because they don't waste space with a 3rd row -- which no one can use or even fit into). It drives better than most sedans. The AWD really works, whether offroading (done it) or driving up an icy road to ski at 13,000' (done it).

Added this car for the stuff I can't do in my accord (hauling stuff, outdoors stuff, etc). handles just like a car but the suspension isn't too soft and reminds you that you still are in a truck (sort of) Handles/takes corners better than my 02 accord. don't notice a difference Engine and tranny is very responsive and

I drove several SUV's before deciding on the Tribute. I chose it over the Escape because of the exterior styling was more pleasing to the eye. This is the only car I have ever had that I would buy another one of. Trust me I am a very picky person!

Exceeded expectations in quality and value compared to other brands. Two disapointments. No power door lock switch on front passenger door and poor mileage for V6. 22 will never be achieved but still hoping for 17+ in town. Great 6CD changer and power to spare. Very good ride given relatively short wheel base. Two-way rear door/window opening very convenient. Great value for the $.

we have had a great experience with this vehicle, i was impressed with the price and quality. it is the first mazda i ever owned but the third for my husband. it is a great suv for a small family needing that extra room, more room than a car. i think that it is comfortable, sporty and gets you to point a to b saftely. i dont feel like i am going to flip over and it is wide enough to give you that comfort of being stable, such a smooth ride, i love my sunroof and the hitch, the kids really enjoy it, it is a vehicle suitable for anyone in the family to drive

I've had my Tribby for a few months now. It's been great. I don't get the complaints about the shifter or road noise. Mine is fine. I love the feature that allows you to roll up the windows after you've turned off the engine. Gas milange has been 20 mpg, insurance cost low, great room and driving. Get one. When I bought mine, the Tribby was the better deal over it's sister the Ford Escape (better financing/rebate and warranty).

This car is my father's, but I absolutely love to drive it! I drive it about 2 hours a week, while he drives it perhaps 15. It's a fun car to drive, great pick up and great guts on the highway at higher sustained speeds. I've never had a problem passing a 18- wheeler going 80 uphill...like I do in my 2001 malibu. The only downfall of this great little SUV is the uncomfortable seats...on long rides we each grab a pillow. There are also large blind spots, we added a spot mirror to the left side mirror.

I am a female that has driven Jeeps for 15 years but they have gotten too expensive for me. Having owned this Mazda for one month, I still have the safety of the SUV with less cost and better gas mileage which I attribute to its being less heavy. Mazda was also wonderful with the financing.

I recently purchased my Mazda Tribute and I just love it. This is the first time I have purchased an SUV and I'm glad I did. It handles great and I have no fear of driving it (media hype had me a little leery of purchasing an SUV). And, it drives so much better than my last car. I can't comment too much on the gas mileage as I haven't had it long enough, but the short time I have had it the gas mileage has been about 22 mpg in the city. Can you tell I really love my Mazda!

First day on the road with her and initial impressions are great. Very comfy and coming from a car POV I like being up higher - more visibility, etc. I haven't gone thru my first tank of gas yet but I know what to expect. So far, very happy - this thing is loaded. I'll have to follow up in a couple months.

Searched for lots of SUV's and came across the Tribute. Lots of reviews talk of milage so I wanted to give my opinion. On a trip pulling 18ft bass boat with air on the whole time and going up and down hills I got 14.5. Under normal city/highway driving I got 19.6. The gear shift being in the way is not a big deal to me as you can tilt the steering column to avoid it. Tribute looks great and is fun to drive! Have 1000 miles on vehicle and so far I love it.

With a 30 mile (each way) commute on Long Island NY (Traffic Capital of the Northeast) This perfectly sized SUV handles great, power driver's seat has enough adjustmentss to please anyone, rides comfortably, and with the premium audio package is a pleasure to drive. With the AWD I'll be ready for winter. The only other car I considered was the Subaru Forester, but the Tribute's 201 HP V6 and taller ride height made my decision easy.

Having ridden in, owned and used a number of SUV's in my life, the Tribute is definitely the king of the heap when it comes to a smaller SUV. Easy to drive & park; plenty of get-up-and-go for the highway. My only complaint is mileage and range... NOT ENOUGH OF EITHER.

Having driven this Tribute since 9/01, I can honestly say I have enjoyed every minute. The vehicle handles well and response is quick and trustworthy. At higher speeds(70 mph) the car is noisey from the wind factor. Fuel mileage is great, 19mpg city and 22mpg highway. I would like to see a more dressy interior to complement the over all vehicle. I definitely would purchase another Mazda again.

The ES has a luxurious interior with a lot of extras like reclining back seats, high padded arm rest between the front seats, and all the extras you expect from a higher level vehicle. It is a lot roomier inside than you would think a "small SUV" would be. It is surprisingly quiet inside even on rough surfaces. The engine has steady power and pick up, the automatic transmission shifting is smooth and it handles well on turns. It offers a smooth ride on a variety of surfaces. The exterior appearance is not boxy but also not like it is trying to be a van. It is a nice mid-level vehicle with an aesthetic but not flashy appearance.

I test drove my Trubute, with no bad feelings, but after the purchase, I dtook it for a long ride, and to my supprise, It was the worst mistake I have ever made in a vehicle purchase. The road noise was extreamly loud, and the ride was worse. So now I am stuck with a car (Horse) that I can't take on a long ride. I didn't know it was made by Ford, or "Forget it" Anyway, life goes on, I can't say that for Ford.

I have under 1K miles on it but so far I have been very impressed. After switching from a Jeep GCL V8, I was concerned about the loss of power. This car has enough power for me. The column shifter isn't a big problem at all. And I have read complaints about it being noisy at high speeds. I haven't encountered that at all. The car handles pretty well and have no problem passing. After a couple thousand miles, I will give another review, but so far, so good!

I have been satified with my Tribute. Overall its been a very comfortable drive. I LOVE the cargo space and the reclining seats in the back. The Premium Sound System with the 6 disc cd changer was worth the money. One minor problem that I have incurred was condensation that drips from the AC on top a steaming hot metal exhaust under the car constantly makes a sizzling noise when I turn the vehicle off. Dealer said that all Mazda Tributes do it so they refuse to touch it. Overall I gave it a pretty good rating!

Great smaller SUV. Unbelievably quiet and comfortable. It Could use more power but 95% of the time is more than adequate. It is equipped with an over overdrive that allows it to tow without much effort. Does have a bit of a truck ride probably because of the short wheel base (I was driving a Cadillac Seville before). Compact exterior dimensions make it fir in the garage with room to spare.

My experience with my 2003 Tribute ES 2WD has been outstanding by most accounts. Previously owning a 2002 Millenia, I was familiar and comfortable with the Mazda lineup. After much research, I decided to purchase the Tribute. I'm very satisfied with my decision. It's a great vehicle for me in all areas and I love the way it handles, drives, and rides. The build quality is great, along with the improved warranty over the 2002 models. My Tribute has all the bells and whistles less the 4WD option, but that wasn't necessary for me. Plenty of room, fun to drive, excellent value for the money. I'll definitely purchase another one down the road.

Having bought my tribute three months ago and 5,000 miles ago I so far only have one complaint. It is so much lighter than my 96' Jeep Grand Cherokee...I have had problems with zoom zooming too fast around turns and sliding. Road noise is not too much of a factor. The gearshift for some reason doesn't bother me at all. Nice stereo with the luxury package. Another complaint, I know I said only one earlier but I think that this is just a fluke, the power to my rear view mirror (temperature and compass) cuts on and off...some electrical problem there that I am sure the good people at Lawson Mountain Mazda will fix pronto. Great Car!

Living in snow country, I wanted a 4WD vehicle that was safe for my family to drive, comfortable for me to drive (6ft.plus), but didn't require a gas tank I needed a home quity loan to fill regularly and still make it 5-6 hours to grandma's house. This is it. While spec's don't indicate the facts, it sure seems larger than a Honda CRV which I also considered. Neighbor's comments are - "...it sure looks like a regular SUV", meaning big.

I was in the market for a car, not a SUV. Saw an ad for a Tribute for 15K so decided to have a look, was very impressed. It seemed huge inside compared to the cars I was looking at (P.T. Cruiser, Mazda P5 and M6). What impressed me the most was the build quality, refinement and amount of features for $15K. Why buy a Lexus when you can get this kind of build quality on a $15K car. And for that it has all the nice options, like alloy wheels, pwr windows and keyless entry. You would be hard pressed to get a fully loaded Neon for this price!

Purchased 2 months ago after I decided to replace my 5+ year old Explorer (which served me well!). Seriously considered the Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Subaru Forester and Ford Escape (twin) but chose the Tribute and am happy I did. The Tribute is the best small SUV on the market! Great handling, peppy performance (V6), cute design, nice stereo (190W / 7 speaker / cassette upgrade + moonroof luxury pkg) at a good price. Heated seats are nice & toasty during the NE Winter! After driving the Explorer for 5 years, I missed the sport car feel/handling (previous cars: '90 Mazda MX6 GT & '94 626 ES, '85 Celica GTS) ... until now! Zoom Zoom!!!

Just okay....

I purchased my 2001 Tribute in September of 2000. I now have 61,000 miles. It has been in the dealership several times for various problems such as the transmission (had to be replaced and they used a rebuilt), sunroof, sensors, fuel smell when you first start the vehicle. (Dealer said it is normal) The interior has never been quite right near the top of the back window. It always seems to sag. This was the first year model for the vehicle so maybe the 2002 & 2003 models improved some. Overall I am not sorry that I purchased the vehicle but am certain that I would not own another one. You definitely get what you pay for.

From the very first day we purchased the vehicle it's been in the shop about 1 1/2 months. It stalls, safety restraint system fails, clutch went out, and ignition switch busted. Plus other little things. The list is too long to write all of it.

My wife and I have our first child on the way so it was time for a 4 door and we liked the mini SUV's. We test drove several and loved the Tribute. We test drove several including the Jeep Liberty. The liberty offered a couple more nice things but the roll over ratings were worse than our Wrangler! The Tribute had a nicer more refined ride and handling plus the rear door is more convienent. The Lexus didn't offer more conviences than the Tribute to justify the price difference. We like the little styling differenced better than the Ford Escape. We're very happy with it.

After much research I thought the Tribute was the best car and best deal in this SUV class. The factory incentives weren't so bad, I opted for the $2,000 factory cash! Lots of front leg room for us 6"3 people. Parking is always a breeze. I live in New York City and am always amazed at how much extra space I have once in my parking space. This car handles like a dream and has lots of pep! Very comfortable ride on long trips!

Despite a lot of strong points, my Tribute has been nothing but trouble. Terrible build quality. So far the brake pedal assembly, seat heater switch, CD player, cruise control, all weather stripping, and cowlings have had to be replaced. Mazda Consumer Compliance has been very little help, and a local dealer (not where I purchased the vehicle) damages the car each time they work on it.

In about 2 monhts, i found that it makes too much noise, when iam above 60 mph. I had to increate the sound level so high to drown out the wind noise. leather quality is not good. Anything on the leather slides left right, back and forth. The A/c controls are a lil weird. Since I cannot put the full a/c blow between face and legs.. it only works on the top ( face) and not anywhere else. Too much body roll on sharp turns, much more than a subaru.. ( tested both on same turns).

I love my Tribute!! It looks great and drives great. The leather interior is absolutely gorgeous and the V6 engine has a lot of pep. Before I decided to buy my car, I investigated the other mini SUVs and discovered that the Tribute definitely offers more bang for the buck. The new warranty (4 yrs, 50K miles) was the extra icing on the cake. Perspective buyers just need to watch out for that Theft Guard scam. The finance rep at the dealership got an extra $795 out for a product that I didn't need nor want. I can't blame Mazda for that scam, only the dealership. I wouldn't buy another car from that dealership if they were giving them away.

Being a senior citizen with a diabetic physical handicap, I had my share of problems entering sedan (low seating) type vehicles. With the Tribute this problem no longer exists. Its height affords the driver an ease of entry together with a very comfortable/roomy driving position. The "over the hood" windshield viewing area is superior . The maneuverability and handling of the miniSUV feels like a sedan most likely due to its unique suspension and steering ratio. Great vehicle for the price!

I like my tribute, which i bought 11/02...i think! I'm mostly getting over the mpg shock. okay, i may be a little lead-footed, but i was hoping for better than 20 mpg, mostly highway driving (was spoiled by my previous Mazda GLC and Protege'). As for sporty and fun...it is. I hate the placement of the gear shift on the column (it makes it difficult to reach radio controls...do i go over or under the gear stick???) I'm still getting use to the blind spot on passenger rear side, and have hit my herbie curbie twice to prove it. Overall, i like it, but like a good pair of shoes, gotta' break it in.

I gave my wife a choice of new cars. I actually had a Mercedes C320 set aside at the dealership for her. She being a "High Maintenance Girl", I thought that she'd bite on that in a New York minute. However, she held firm on the Tribute and it was a great decision. In fact, since it is my turn to get a new car, I opted for a Mazda6 instead of a Mercedes, BMW or Lexus. I still think that they are superior cars, but the Mazda6 at half (or less) their price is irresistable.

In the time I've spent with my Tribute I've mostly had the best owner's experience! At first there were a few trips to the dealer to handle minor annoyances in certain parts, otherwise nothing major. The sporty handling and performance of the v6 leaves little to be desired. The 4wd system reacts quickly and works well in ice and snow! One major criticism, FUEL EFFICIENCY. I've never been able to get decent fuel mileage (averaging 18.1 mpg) on this car, although I admit I don't drive too conservatively, I would expect more out of the car, however. If there's a price to pay for excellent handling and performance, fuel consumption would probably be the one I'd choose.

I also liked the Tribute and the reviews were good as well but no one I knew had ever heard of it much less owned one. I set out one Saturday to check out the Tribute on my way to find a CRV and I never made it to Honda. One test drive and two hours later I was driving one home for about $400 below invoice. The power and ride are great and my 6'6" body fits fine. The stereo with in dash cd and rear subwoofer sound terrific. I only have a couple of thousand miles on it as yet but I can't wait for warm weather so I can really see what this baby can do!!

I drove 5 other SUV's and this stood out as the overall winner. Some other SUV's did certain things better - but this was the best package. Wind noise does intrude over 40 MPH, but with the radio on it drowns out the outside noise. This SUV really does handles great. My old car was an Acura Integra and I was worried I'd be bored in an SUV. This car is fun to drive and it is zippy. It has a smooth ride, and lots of cargo space. You have to test drive this car. I drove it last and bought one that day (after driving the other SUV's for 3 months!).

While the tribute is overall a good car, I have had numerous negative experiences with Mazda in the week since I purchased my car. First, the dealer has been inept - offering me a percentage rate, signing the contract, and then calling me after I've already taken possession of the car and trying to re-negotiate my contract. Second, the day after I brought my car home it began malfunctioning, and the dealer has yet to correct the problems. Third, there is no automatic door unlock on the passenger door - pain for passengers and drivers alike. Overall, pretty good car but sketchy dealers - beware. If it seems like a good deal, read the fine print.

the 1st time i ever saw the tribute i knew i had to have it. it was the cutes thing i had ever seen! my in-laws had just bought my sister-in-law a brand new jeep g.c. all they could talk about was how great it was. i would try to tell them about the tribute, they never heard about it! i went on the internet and e-mailed pics. to my mother-in-law. she also thought it was the cutest. i found silver star mazda on the internet, russ found what i was looking for, and now all my relatives can say is your little suv is soooo cute! a tribute to me!

We bought after test driving a couple of other SUVs. I Went to Mazda by accident, they let me take one home for the weekend. That was it. My wife loved it when she saw it. Great car for that price. It's FUN to drive.

My experience with this vehicle has, so far, been good.I admit that I have not owned ot long enough to give an authoritative critique. However I've found it to be comfortable and well equiped,( having added no extras except for wheel locks). I can live with the sound system although I'd advise in favor of the upgraded sound system if you're really into music as I am.

Just purchased my first SUV after much research! Compared to the Ford Escape, the Tribute has many more interior features, and looks much sleeker & sportier. The "cold pkg" & "luxury pkg" are a GREAT VALUE! To get heated seats with the Ford Escape, you have to purchase the "limited" model which is very expensive. Mazda Tribute also has a better warranty 3yr/50 bumper to bumper compared to Escapes's 3 yr/36. I paid just 2% over dealer invoice for a 2003! No body roll & rides like a dream!

So far, so good

I've driven Mazdas for years. They tend to be the same quality as other "Japanese" makes and typically much cheaper. I had debated an SUV for some time but just didn't want to pay 35-40K for a truck. I drove the Tribute and got hooked. I absolutely love the thing. I have a ton of room, It's fun to drive, peppy, etc. I read the reviews of other owners and feel bad for them. I expect it will happen to me as well and might lower my current very high opinion of my Tribute. But,til then, zoom-zoom.

We bought this vehicle after much research on Edmunds & other sites. Originally purchased to transport our large Rhodesian Ridgeback. However, WE LOVE OUR TRIBUTE! It's fun to drive, turns corners without feeling top- heavy. Test-drove Escape, Honda, Nissan and chose the Mazda Tribute and have not been sorry.

I've had my LX -4X4 for 1yr and 2 months now (15K) and I rate the car as a solid B+. The car is speedy, handles well, and acts like a car. The down side is I 've had 3 warrenty items fixed ( I am going in for a 4th next week-the sunroof stopped working) all have been nuiscences that have required the car to stay at the dealership for 1 or 2 days. However the problems started after 8 hassle free months.(sagging headliner, check engine light(bad O2 sensor), and 4X4 switch broke-in on position. I average 18mpg/city and 21 on the highway. I've been overall pleased w/ the ride, handling, power, and space. For the $$ this has been a good car.

Love this SUV!

I researched long and hard before buying my Tribute. I test drove the new Honda CRV, the Ford Escape, the Saturn VUE and the Hyundai Santa Fe. Without a doubt, the Tribute was the most fun to drive and felt more solid than any of the others. I would strongly suggest that anyone shopping in this SUV segment test drive the Tribute. You won't be disappointed.

Got the car for under 24k drive out fully loaded. The drive is very comfortable especially for long distances and heavy traffic scenarios. The power is great off the line for a big car but there could be a little more for the highway. Cargo space is great and easy to fold down the seats in no time.

Terrific vehicle for the value. Reliable, comfortable, easy to get in and out of. Can fold down back seats with easy. Good visibility. Would purchase another one in a heart beat! We have had 2 other Mazda products, can't beat um.

I am surprised with the previous review of 2.8. The transmision problem you had does not reflect that all the Mazda tributes are bad. All cars have issues and you were just an unlucky guy. You do have the right to be upset at the fact that the dealer is not being helpful. I like my car very much and do suggest it to other potential buyers in that price range.. I compared to the Escape, Liberty and the Mazda was a much better car for the money. I encorage other people who own tributes to also write and share their experience.

This is my firstg SUV and I decided on it after extensive research, including Edmunds online owner comments, and test drives of a number of compact SUVs. I love the performance and handling of the car. The six cyl. engine is very peppy. The size of the Tribute is perfect for my needs, which do not include much off-road driving. I paid $500 over the published invoice.

I absolutely love my new Tribute. The only down fall about it is the wind noise. It could be reduced. I love the car so much though, that it doesn't bother me. I looked around at almost every kind of SUV, and this was the best one I drove. I would highly recommend one, to everyone.
