I Paid $9000 for this car 5 Years ago and it's been the best investment I've ever made. I've owned BMW/Lexus/Cadillac and nothing has had the durability Like this car. Only thing I've had to change is Alternator and Water pump last year. Still Rides Like a Dream!

I got a very good price on the purchase and the a year after purchase 70000 on odometer things started to go.Front tires lasted15000 miles.Rear window fell off the track.Vacuum hose needed to be replaced. Oxygen Sensor needed to be replaced for $750.Now the climate control is not working and I was told to look for a used Navigation Unit. Over $1000 for a used one. I will pay it off and go back to Honda's.

I just traded a motorcycle even for this 2003 AWD 5 speed manual transmission x type Jag. The young guy i traded with said he would he would trust it going anywhere. I could tell right away that he was right. I have owned many many cars in my live, but not one that handles and drives a fraction as good as this. I like to think that i have a 6th sense about the longevity and reliabilityo of a car after all my years? Well, my sense meter was off the charts with this 5 speed manual. I think this car will drive and handle this good for years to come, simply because it isn't working hard to do it. I do declare that I am profoundly impressed. It was a very nice bike that I traded for this car, but I am blown away at how sweet this car really is. Wow!

Good Stuff!!

I bought it for my wife, even so it was used for only three years, after a week the radio screen stop working, not long the wheels bent(all four). Check engine light came on, cat converter 2, after replacing twice the light stills on, then all codes possibles were detected by the scanner, PO 116,PO 300s, PO 430, and no mechanic could even look at it. Last hope I took it to a expert, his first words get rid of this thing. I did and now happy is my middle name.

I have owned this x-type for 3 years and I bought it with 125,000 miles on it. I am the 2nd owner. It now has 160,000+ miles and still runs & looks like new. Only things I have had to do is oil changes and a new coolant tank ($129.00 ebay). This car was very well maintained by the original owner and that is key. She had all maint records and only major repair was new rear struts. Other items were normal wear items, brake pads, oil changes, tune up, coolant flush, tires, battery, etc. I have owned several Lexus, BMW, Infiniti, Acura, Cadillac, Mercedes vehicles and this is my favorite. AWD is fantastic. Car is now 10 yrs old & still gets looks. I would recommend this car without question.

I bought my 2.5L automatic in June of 2010. When I first got the car there were some "gremlins" especially electrical that came and gone. In September the battery went. I was able to put a charge to it and when and got a OEM battery. Wow all the gremlins were gone. When I bought it it had 23046 miles and now June 2011 I turned 26000 miles. Except for the electrical gremlins I have no problems with the car until about a month ago. I have the optional HID self leveling headlights, no washers on the lights. The interior mechanism broke in both headlights, and they could no longer be adjusted. One pointed to space the other to the ground. Jaguar does not make replacement parts for these lights,.

Bought the car with 60K miles and now after just over 2 years have 144,000 miles. Only just replaced brakes, replaced radiator overflow tank and put in new plugs at 100K. Have done nothing else. Gas mileage is great. Paid $10K and get offers for $7-8K all the time. Most people think it is a 20K+ car. Great for road trips. Handles great in all areas. I expect to easily get another 100K miles out of this car.

Don't believe the critics. This baby was the safest, smartest, high performance car that just "growled" to be driven. Had her for a total of 6 yrs goin on 7. May have lost her for good b/c she took the tree; not me. Had her out in the snow 1st and only time, hit ice, hit tree. Sprained left hand, bump and bruise on rt knee. Airbag deployed, but no other bruises etc. hit head on, missed the jag on hood, headlights in tact. Radiator pushed in, motor to be assessed. ALOT of safety features deployed. Yet to have the adjuster take a look. 12-31- 09 so it's been 10 days. We'll know when we get the hood up. Either way, this girl was the best car I ever had (have). She won't even turn over.

I've owned my Jag a little over a year now, its power and handling is impressive. This Jag is as beautiful inside as it is on the outside. The 3.0 handles my heavy foot. At first I did not like the AWD till driving through a heavy snow and I was then glad to have it. People who see it look then look again, and I can't help but smile and say "yes its a Jag".

Bought my Jag used with 12,000 miles. Dealer gave us two new tires. At 22,000 had to replace all 4, this was with proper rotation schedule. Needed brakes every 30,000. It has always hated cold weather even though it was garage kept. Major hose repairs at 30,000. New battery at 60,000. Key fob still unlocks, up close. Driver door lock system had to be replaced. Drivers door panel fell off due to broken clips, twice! Not to mention the constant repair of the passenger side defroster vent so it would not rattle. Also found rust starting on hood, almost one year after rust warranty has ended. Have 78,000 miles. The engine light is on again. Trading this week. What a relief! Kept 'cause no payment.

After toying for many years with the idea of "upgrading", I couldn't get excited about anything but a Jaguar. The interior is soothingly comfortable and the exterior is exciting. This car is the smoothest, quietest car I've ever owned and the 2.5 motor will have me collecting speeding tickets if I'm not careful. I get 26 mpg around town and still look for opportunities to just get out and drive. I'm 6-2 but the interior fits me fine. I love the looks and comments I get and that it looks more expensive then it is. I can't imagine ever needing more then this - "Baby Jag" delivers!

I was an MG driver for many years and have always enjoyed the "British" feel for a car. Yes, the X-type is not a standard Jag, but with gas at $4, who would want one? This car is perfect for what we all do -- drive to work, the Metro or run a few errands. I find nothing "cheap" about the interior; the camel interior goes beautifully with the British racing green exterior. Yes, I can't get to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds, but Ford (which has a long tradition in building British cars) has put together just the right package of performance, appearance and creature comforts to make this car worth every dime. You'd be a fool to waste your money on a far more expensive German or high-end Japanese car.

A nice car that I love to keep

This car has meant several things to me: Nice looks, decent power (3 liter), all wheel drive (AWD) versatility and of course, the Jaguar brand name. It feels great when friends and strangers recognize the brand and make positive comments about its looks. This is my 5th year of ownership and I still like its looks and feel. I liked it so much I decided to not trade it in when I recently bought a new car. The 3 liter engine feels strong and satisfying in most situations although the automatic transmission loses a second or two when downshifting in sudden acceleration. It makes up for this in smooth operation when needing to pass. Last but not least, the AWD feature has been great in snow/ice.

I purchased my 2003 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 in January 0f 2008 and I love it. It was a blessing that fell in my lap and once I saw what a great deal it was I couldn't pass it up. Well, 4 months later I am deftly happy with it. I have had no issues whatsoever and it gets many head nods. I just tell all the people who think I must be cavorting a lot more money than they thought to be driving it, that a blessing came my way and it keeps blessing me over and over again. It is grey with woodgrade integrated with the black leather interior. Also, yes it has a pretty sleek look and everyone loves it. I appreciate and love it!!

After looking at similarly priced BMWs and Mercedes, I decided to take a chance on the X-Type and I have not been disappointed. I absolutely love this car. Inside and out, the X-Type is beautiful, and driving it is a dream. With an automatic transmission, the 2.5 liter engine is a bit underpowered but the performance is more than acceptable and the handling is superb. The X-Type styling really stands out in the crowded entry-level luxury market. If you don't tell people what you paid for the car, they'll assume you paid twice as much. It is that nice.

"She" has been in my life now for almost a year after being introduced to me by a British salesman as my first car. We have endured the haterism of the Ford jokes & negativity of her brand's past failures in reliability as she continues to live up to a tradition of luxury & a quality performance automobile. Against all odds, she has performed far more better than anyone expected. Surprisingly, my most harshest critics have never driven in a Jaguar, therefore they have never experienced its distinction & luxurious feel. She's a rarity on any road. She drives through the Northeast winter storms like an SUV with her AWD capability.

Tried the 2.5L SE and was surprised at the lack of pull, lots of gutsy noise but no real grunt. Then tried the 3.0L, the difference is remarkable as soon as you turn the key. Much gruntier sound, loads more wellie and some effective top end traction. Fuel consumption isn't that much more, but early days yet. If you're still deciding, go for the 3L, you won't regret it.

Everyone and their cousin has either a 3 series or C class - for good reason, both are excellent cars, I've had both - but it was time for a change. On that note this little Jag delivers. People don't confuse it for a Corolla or Honda. The body style is very reminiscent of the '84 which was one of my favorite cars as a kid. Regarding power, it accelerates just fine, I don't need a racecar to go back and forth to work or run errands. As for issues regarding the small rear seat, this is a small car, not a Chevrolet Impala. It's meant to be small and nimble, which is part of what makes it perfect. It drives smooth and the sport mode makes it quicker.

Purchased a certified used 5 spd/2.5L X-Type in 3/05 (had 12k miles). 2 years and 18k miles later, the only issues have been a popping air vent (fixed under warranty) and a driver's door handle that intermittently sticks. Handles like a dream (the AWD is amazing), but could use just a bit more punch in 1st gear. Acceleration from 20 mph on is just fine. Quiet ride and gets compliments everywhere I go. Very satisfied with performance, reliability, and gas mileage (24 mpg with 50/50 highway and local driving, and I tend to punch it a lot). Looking to upgrade to either a 3.0 X-Type Sport or used XK8 next year.

It's a Jag and it is one of the most reliable cars cars I have ever owned (and I have had many) in 4 years it has only been back to the dealer 1 time for a loose front seat. The free maintenance to 40K has been nice. Overall it has been a good experience. Mileage has been good for an AWD car @ 22.5 mpg. I am very happy, thanks to Ford, Jaguar builds a nice car and you don't need to get a tow truck contract to go with it. I am happy happy happy.

I bought the Jaguar X-Type 2003 used and I do not regret it one bit. When considering to buy this car, everyone doubted it, saying its only nice on the exterior. I was told the reliability was terrible, no dealerships in the area, and that it was not worth the headache because the parts are expensive. I have not had to bring the car in to the dealership ONCE, only for an oil change. Overall this car is a fantastic buy, great price, GREAT reliability, and tons of fun. I have this car at college, and it gets looks of admiration and impression. Another great feature of this car is it all wheel drive, which is unusual for an SUV. I am very grateful for buying it.

I've considered a Saab 9-3 and an Audi A4 when deciding. They're both great cars, but the Jaguar X-Type offered more options, more character, more driving enjoyment, more emotional involvement than any other at the price. Every trip in this car is a special occasion. Reliability and quality has been far above my expectations so far.

Before buying the X-Type I used to drive an XJ8. Although I love the style and ride of the XJ8, I always felt that the XJ8 was too much car for me (I am 5' tall and petite). The X-Type is a glove fit for me and I am so pleased that I made the change. My husband who has an XR series, was firmly against the X-Type predicting a litany of problems, etc. Happily, I have had no problems. The X-Type is sporty and stylish with many of the interior features of the XJ8. The trunk space is much larger than in the XJ8 and the rear seats fold down with minimal effort if more space is needed. I feel so connected with my car and I'll be in the market again within the next two years for another X-Type!

Bought this after evaluating the competition. Best price compared to options offered as well as stylish interior and exterior. Wish I had gotten the 3.0, but will get that next. Highly recommended as it is powerful, well built (only in the dealership for no-charge oil changes), gets looks, and is well-priced.

The Jaguar X-Type 2.5L has the stance of champion race car but, unfortunately, its designers and engineers forgot about the power curve. Its power to weight is insufficient to move it quickly from a standing start even if you jump on the accelerator. If you want that kind of performance, don't buy this car. For me, that didn't matter, the car rides like a dream in all weather conditions, tracks straight and true and no amount of snow can stop it. The sound system is excellent. If you like cruising, this car will hum along at 100 mph. all day without a problem. Remember: The X-Type was bred for the autobahn not the drag strip. If that's what you're looking for, this is the car for you.

There is no way to have more fun and style than driving a gorgeous Jaguar... at least at this price range :) Love the way it sounds and the fast response from a 3.0 brisk engine. Interior is well balanced with leather and wood trimmings.

Car has lived up to expectations. It is not a performance monster, but has good pick up and decent gas mileage (hwy has hit 28 mpg, averages 26-27, around 22 in town). Build quality is acceptable and the interior is simple but well done. Awd and braking are the best features on the X-type, especially for winter weather driving.

Purchased used with 12,000 miles for about 1/2 original retail. The manual 5 spd. provides plenty of zip with the 2.5, and the AWD handles like a dream. By far the best feature is the exterior styling but a close second is the outstanding warranty Jag provides on certified used cars (bumper to bumper, 100k/6 years from original date of purchase). Finally, I enjoy not seeing dozens of other cars like mine (I see about a dozen BMW 3 series for each X-Type), and people think I spent a LOT more than I did! Someday, I'll graduate to an XK, but I hope to be a Jaguar owner for life.

Purchased my 03 X-Type 3.0 as a Select Edition certified car. It is truly a wonderful vehicle despite it's poor reputation. The drive is very smooth, the engine quiet and refined. The leather and wood wraps you in luxury that feels much more expensive than what the car actually costs. Prepare to get to know your service advisor if you purchase one of these cars, however. In the 5 months that I've had mine, it's been in the shop for about a month. No major problems have been encountered, just replacing parts that had rattles, whines, vibrations, etc. As long as it's under warranty, I want as smooth a ride as I can get

I have owned 4 Infiniti G20t prior to this 2003 Jaguar X-type. I have owned many other automobiles also and this is by far the best. I am a Jaguar owner for life. The car is awesome, handles really well, grips the road as if it had claws. So comfortable and quiet, love the purr of the engine as it takes off with no hesitation. Beautiful interior and exterior. You can`t help but to turn around and give it another glance while walking away. I love my Jaguar!

The ride is excellent for a small vehicle. The all wheel drive and size makes it a luxury compact. Easy to park, drive... All service for the vehicle is included. Everytime the car is serviced it is completely detailed at no extra cost. I have wanted a Jaguar since 1975. I have always liked their looks. The Jaguar is 3 years old and I still get compliments on it. If you are looking for a respected people car buy a Jaguar. If you like harsh ride and odd controls buy German.

This is not a real Jaguar- Never had a Jag before, and after having all sorts of problems with my Audi A6 (no dealerships on Long Island could figure out what was wrong with the car), I swapped it for the X-type. What a mistake! The instrument gauges work intermittently (YES, sometimes they are just still, reading 0 MPH when on the freeway, etc.), the car SQUEAKS over every bump and dip in the road, the automatic headlights only work when they want to, and the dashboard vents curl up (had these replaced under warranty twice, still curls up! I've given up on these). The rear park sensors don't always work. NOT acceptable for a $36k car. Look elsewhere when shopping in this category.

Much better car than "experts" say. Drawbacks are in two areas: 1) Not enough oomph: care must downshift to get away from itself. 2) Rear seat legroom is grossly inadequate. Big plus is the tremendous first rate service of the dealer (Heritage Jaguar, Freeport, NY)

The jaguar x type is a fantastic auto!! Deserves a look if you are looking for a luxury mid sized car. Best deals seem to be buying one after it has been leased for a year or less, with 10000 or less miles. Handles the wisconsin snow like no car I have ever driven. We are x type owners for life!! Handles extremely well in any conditions and has power to spare. The sport seats really hug your rear end and not that its too uncomfortable but you do have to get used to it.

I purchased a pre-owned 2003 - 3.0 in June of 2004. Owning a Jaguar has always been my dream. Now that the "kiddies" are gone, I have one and I love it. I have all the options except navigation. I am waiting to see what the AWD does in the Chicago snow. I would definately buy another. Just one thing, for the price I think the car should have a bit more of a super- charged engine, a little more get up and go or possibly a better transition when vehicle is shifting gears and a better suspension or tires even, could feel a little more softer over bumps, and God knows Chicago has plenty of those. Other than that, this 50's plus female is "In Love with her car".

What a fun ride! The car's suspension is so smooth, it almost feels as if I am riding on air! It corners tight, not much play in the wheel, and has great acceleration. The interior is luxurious yet sporty and the sound system is excellent. I've driven this car long distances, back and forth from Ohio to Florida several times, and found it to be super on gas - between 29 and 32 mph, of course I use nothing but premium, but it's worth it. Did I mention the design? It's lines are gorgeous... I'm in love with my car! Oooh......

I found the engine sounds tinny, like a turbo charged Civic, high piched. The leather seats seem quite cheep as compared with the Infiniti G35, the Volvo S60 or other competing cars. The car looks like a Taurus. If you want a sporty car buy the Infiniti G35 AWD, a safer, more reliable and more fun to drive is the Volvo S60. I don't like the Jaguar

I love the design of the car. Its performance and design wowed me over. People stare at the car whenever I am driving it. It is so easy to drive and the traction is very good. The engine is quiet, performance superb and the interior was a winner. I also like the safety features of the car, the anti-theft system etc. I love everything about this car. Although classed as "Midsize" it's quality seating makes the interior seem small. Should the driver require all the available seat adjustment, it gives very little room for the rear passenger. As a drivers car, it has few equals. The All Wheel Drive gives great confidence in all weather conditions. The superb road handling can give the impression the car is on rails! Powered by the zesty 3.0 litre engine it can leave you with the impression that you are behind a turbo charged V8! Take your foot off the power and you are driving a luxury limo. Put your foot down and the smooth powerful engine puts you in the Ferrari class.

After falling in love with this car at the auto show back in February I spent all year convincing myself I needed to buy one. With a 191,000 miles on my 10 yr old Park Ave, I figured it's only a matter of time before it died. Taking advantage of year end close out sales I found myself a 2.5 sport package in British Racing Green. What a beautiful car! I bought the car thinking I would still drive the Buick until it's death. I now have almost 6,000 miles on the Jag and spend no time in the Buick.

I took the Jag on a windy mountain road for the first time, wow. The AWD was a definate improvement, as there seemed to be no limits to the amount of accel. in the curves. Truely thrilling. Even with the 2.5 L engine, there seemed no lack of power. I test drove the 3.0, and although there was a noticeable increase in HP, it was not appreciable. I commute 120+ miles/day, so I went for the mileage, rather than the power, and I don't regret it.

Everything works the way it is supposed to, nothing to complain about. We live in a rural hilly area and the 2.5 with automatic has plenty of power to handle it. Can't wait for the winter to see how the AWD does. With the factory and dealer discounts on this car it feels like an incredible bargain.

Buying the jag was the easiest buying experience ever for a car: no stress, no sales pushes, no trouble. Dealer bent backward for me. Others claim the 2.5 doesnt have enough power - it has plenty of power for most people. I love seeing the jaguar statue riding atop the hood in front. Fittings and finish are clean and flush. Gives an appearance of a more expensive jaguar. Although this is a 2003 it has a bunch of stuff not shown on 2003's. Even have cup holders front and rear. Drive is smooth and the seats so comfortable it could be an easy chair. Acceleration is smooth.

The saleman treated me like a prince. It was the first positive experience buying a new car in years. The only issue I had with the car was that with the sport button was pushed, the car had really low fuel economy. I was later told that I should only use the sport setting on Christmas Day. Besides that, the car has classed up my act.

IMO the X-type lacks the soul and character that BMW, Audi, and now Acura do well building into their cars. It definitely looks the part, with its Jaguar styling cues and the leaper on the hood. But it doesn’t have any of driver dynamics (handling, performance, or quantitative feel) or the solidity (build quality, qualitative feel) that the aforementioned class leaders have. Yes, the X-type rides well, handles competently, and has adequate zip but it doesn't exude that driving excitement to make we want to drive it hard and fast. Maybe that's what Jaguar's after, a subdued experience. If that's what you’re looking for the X- type is right up your alley.

I picked up my car from the dealership last night. This is a beautiful looking car (white exterior, beige leather interior). At first I had a bit of trouble getting the car to go in reverse. The sales manager failed to mention that you have to lift a small ring on the shifter before you put it in reverse. I found that out while reading the manual later that evening. When I drove my daughter to school this morning I was able to back up with no problem at all. Now that I know what I'm doing I'm very happy with the car. So far it looks and rides like a dream. ...I will update these comments in the weeks ahead as I put miles on this baby....so far so good....

This car is superior to all others tested in the $30-40k range: Acura TL/CL: Minuses - head room, front wheel drive, sound system, whiny engine, suspension dampening. 3 series BMW: Minuses - Inferior sound system, cabin size-especially width. Jaguar much more car for the money. Volvo: Nice for additional$10k. The X-Series Jaguar is an almost perfect combination of sports/luxury sedan.

So, after looking at a number of cars to buy, I decided on the entry level X type. After signing the 3 year lease, the car was mine. I purchased a base model with a 5 speed manual. Almost right away, the heater broke, which, is a bummer in Oregon during the Winter. So, back to the dealer ship and then we waited for parts. To make a long story short, we eventually ended up with another X type as the first one was not fixable. To show there appreciation for the problem they gave me a S type as a loaner (During my three week wait) and when I got my new X type back, they upgraded me to 17" wheels at no extra charge!

My x-type is barely off the showroom floor, but I am -so far- impressed with the performance and build of the car. Spent countless hours researching features and price. After checking out the "Car Discussion" forums, was able to find a dealer (Rahal, Wexford, PA) and negotiate a terrific deal. This is a dream car with classic styling, despite the "Ford-like" criticisms by some reviewers. My experience places this car in the "superb" category. The x- type provides a lot of bang for the buck. If you're looking for a distinctive automobile at an affordable price, consider the X-Type Jauar. Zooooooom!

My first Jaguar. I've always wanted a Jag, but didn't want the "old man" looking style of the XJ. I was looking at Mercedes, BMW. None of the models I looked at compare to this car! The style, and feel of driving this car blows away the competition. My neighbor bought a new Nissan of some type. He was livid, absolutely beside himself with envy when I parked my Jag next to him.

Have put over 5000 miles on X-Type 2.5 automatic with no problems. Performance is about equal to competition. Exterior styling and interior are more elegant. Cornering is excellent with AWD. Car has great traction in wet conditions. In my book BMW325 and little Lexus don't compare.

i purchased this vehicle as a loaner car from the dealer. it was one of the early jags made. at first, there were some problems all covered under warranty. heater went out, noise from the drivertrain, malfunction fuel sender unit causing a gas leak, all repaired at my local dealer that provided a free loaner car. twice i was given a s-type. since february 02 i have had no problems. the dealer even gave me 100,000 mile/ 6 year warranty. i am not worried about any future problems. i would recommend this car.

I just picked up my new X-type a week ago, and already I am having problems with the steering wheel shaking between 50-65 MPH. Drives great above 70 though, unfortunately I can't drive it at 70 all the time. Also I think the fuel ecomomy is below average. You would think for a car this size economy would be better. It looks nice on the outside and nice on the inside, but I don't feel like it is built the way it should be for the price. Kinda feels like a rental. I owned the 3 series BMW and LOVED it, it felt much more solid, the Jag doesn't compare.

White leather, AWD, moon roof with split rear seats, navigation (with gas stations!!), garage control, electronic seats - what same-class vehicle has these options? Critics mention the sluggish 2.5 acceleration - this matters if you're downgrading from an XJ/S. For the same price, you can drive a Mercedes shell, and "turn the dial" for seat control and use paper maps. The X type - take it skiing, take it touring, take it home...

Although the 2.5 X-Type doesn't jump off the starting line, it makes up for it in comfort, style and affordability. The X-Type is much more comfortable that my '99 Cadillac Catera and a lot more stylish but just not as zippy. The Sport mode helps some as does the J-Shift automatic transmission. All in all, this entry-level Jaguar is a great buy. Routine maintenance coverage is an unexpected bonus.

They finally had to admit that they had transmission problems with these cars. I have talked to other X-Type owners and they have experinced the same thing. At first the dealer denied there was a problem until I made a real stink. It still isn't right so they are calling in Jaguar HQ.

This is the first car in years that I've really liked. Particularly the chassis, a part of the car that I've never before paid much attention to, provides a solidity that makes this car a joy - on the highway where I've cruised at 185 km/hour (115 mph) (and don't ask where) and on windy mountain roads (where I went much slower).

If you buy this model in the 2.5 liter engine, you can keep the price at around $33K with ABS/dynamic stability, heated seats, &c. You won't be able to accelerate fast enough to burn rubber from a dead stop, but jeez - grow up a little. If you can afford the car, you probably are old enough to have a family, and the trunk size is very good. The 2.5 gets up to highway speed very easily (5 speed automatic) and it corners really well, with a quiet solid feel under all conditions, especially on bumpy roads. Also, the all-wheel drive gives you the option of the dynamic stability pkg, which is a must.

The lines of this car make my heart palpitate, and the Phoenix red makes it one of the sexiest sedans on the road. Took a demo home for the weekend, went out to dinner that evening, as we waited to be seated everyone in the restaurant was talking about the bright red Jag in the parking lot. Two weeks later I picked up my "arrest me red" kitty. I have yet to have a problem with the X! Now for the bad, Jag service is abysmal. I own two Jags, have had problems with my 2000 XJ8, if you have a problem, expect to get to KNOW your service advisor.

Just traded in my 2.5 for the 3.0. The 2.5 was fine, but I wanted more power and speed. The 3.0 has plenty. Also, the X-Type in general is the best handling car on the road. I've had a few problems with it, but the dealer has never let me down by providing a loaner while my car is serviced. Even though its the least expensive Jag, it impresses others when you say you have a Jag. I also noticed that garages treat you differently when you pull in and bring yu your car. It's not the price of the car, but the image it conveys

I bought this car because of it's handling and appeal. I love the drive, particularly in bad weather (40/60 split awd is amazingly good) and on the highway. BUT, the build quality is the worse I've ever had to deal with. I've owned about 15 cars, most bought new and this is by far the worse. Even before the car was delivered the cooling system sprung a leak. Since then, I've had many problems with trim rattles/squeaks/broken parts and the engine runs rougher at idle than old Hyundai Pony.

Re:Jaguar X type AWD 2.5 auto, sunroof, heated seats for invoice OUT THE DOOR. Because of the $2k incentive that dealers are getting from JaguarNA. Power is 3rd in class behind BMW & Audi's. Goto the 3.0 if u need to race. 2.5 V6 is sufficent for mix hwy/city. Well made & put together inside. Quality seems to be improved in 2nd year of production. Weird is the free included service schedule calls for oil changes @ 10K interval Yet, the car doesn't use synthetic oil!! If u plan on keeping the car for a awhile...stick w/ 3K miles oil changes @ YOUR expense. Very good package for the price esp. now that car market is full of competitors.

my wife and I have so far enjoyed the vehicle. There are some things we would like to bring up. Tires are not up to the jaguar standard (in my book) the continetal tires should be replaced with pirelli's. Seems to have a lot more road noise than it should, tires might help. We also have had serveral rattles within the interior. It seems to be a little pricey for an entry level car. I have also drove the entry level acura. It seems to offer a little more for the money. It also is a lot more quite on the road than the jag. We do enjoy the level of service once the vehicle goes to the dealer for any type of service. Please look into these metioned items.

In less than a month (900 miles) the rear end and tranmission have developed leaks so bad the car is no longer drivable. Also the braking system isn't right. When at a light the pedal will go down by itself. The battery box cannot be openned without hitting a vaccum line clip. The car's design is poor at best, but the way it is assembled is worse. I have been buying new cars for over 35 years and this is probably the worst car I have bought. The dealer gives you roses, but after that it is a downhill experience. Ford bought Jaguar and that should say it all.

I own a manual 2.5 w/Sport package and Xenon lights. Have ~2500 miles on it in first 6 weeks of driving. A fun car to drive with great handling, but it has several small gremlins in build quality: mine have been loose seat, intermittent fuel gauge, and a whistling sunroof. More frustrating, the dealer hasn't returned my voicemail requesting service in 3 weeks now. Fun car, but expect to have it serviced under warranty. The OEM ContiTour tires are cheap and noisy. I replaced mine w/Eagle F1 GS- D3ès and road noise went down significantly.

Other reviewers here claim the Jaguar X- Type looks like a Mercury Sable or other cars. Are they blind! The exterior looks nothing like a Sable. Nor does the interior look like a Sable in fact its beautiful and as good or better than that of any car in any class today under $100,000. The interior layout was so well done that Jaguar has now adopted the identical design for the new versions of their more expensive and larger S and XJ types. Its also a great use of space with a surprisingly large trunk and a light airy cabin. When I see another X- type on the road I can’t believe it appears so small on the outside. The whole package is great.

I own the 3.0 and it has power to spare..great pickup and on the road will run with more than enough power to land you in jail! The car also has very tight cornering and nice breaking while still having a smooth ride. You do hear a bit of road noise inside the car though. The interior is nicely done(for a car in this price range especially) although I do agree with others that the seat belt "snaps" are cheap and plastic(directly out of a ford). Otherwise the leather is great, nice shifter and dash. Bottom Line, this car is not a 50,000$ car but offers styling on that level. It performs excellent for the price and seems to be nice quaility.

After trading in my big SUV I am having fun driving again. Its a pretty car, maneuvers well, has good pick up, and feels secure in all types of weather (really tested due to our tough New England winter this year). However, interior space feels a bit tight, and pricing with options is a bit high, which in particular, causes me to be disappointed when I the similar styling and paint colors on Fords out on the road (Jag should be more distinctive). I recently took delivery of this vehicle, and I am content with it. I was looking for a 4wd sedan for less than 30K and this one came on top for the type and options included. The vehicle did come with a lot of options, but with some patience and a great sales individual I managed to get a great deal for it. The ride is what's expected of a European sedan. The steering is precise and the transmission is smooth. Because it is a 2.5 the acceleration is not that strong, but sufficient enough to provide a joyful ride. The finish inside is good, and the chrome accentuates the car perfectly.

Growing up 4 blocks from a Jaguar Dealership, I have been wanting a Jag since I was 10. Well, this year(38 years later) with the great leasing deals Jaguar offered, I finally got one. The X-Type is all I expected & more. I have to say it's the most fun car I have ever driven. It handles just like a European Luxury/Sports car should. Step on the gas, and you're gone! The leather seats wrap you up. The interior appointments are what you would expect on cars costing twice as much, and the exterior styling are classic Jaguar all the way. If your looking for a Luxury car with guts, at a very reasonable price, the Jaguar X-Type is the car for you.

This car is more Ford than Jaguar. The exterior design is as bland as a Taurus (except the front end). Even the engine is built by Ford. I'm not saying I hate Ford, it's just that Ford and Jaguar have separate segments in the market. Jaguar customers might feel belittled by Ford's involvement.

My wife was ready for a new car so we looked at everything. The second she saw this car she knew this was it. I read the "whiny" reviews and tried to steer her elswhere... No Way! I made her test drive the Beamer and all of those "recommended" cars...No Luck. Well it's been a short time but this car is great, definitely a chick car but she loves it and life is short so go for it, you will be happy too.

The only thing that i will say that takes time to get use to is the brakes, the gas pedal, and the transmission. The brakes take time to get use to because in a way you kinda have to push harder than you think to get stoped where you want to. The gas pedal takes time to get use to because it is very light and touchy, and very responsive. The Transmission takes time to get use to because when you first start driveing when the engine is still cold it seams like the engine is doing alot of shifting, and it you can feel the shifting, but as soon as the engine is warmed up the Jag ride AWSOME!!!!

When I first saw this car I thought it was unique and inexpensive (a $349/mo lease) so really anybody can afford it. The reality is that it is not unique and looks just like the Ford Sable. I am not surprised since Ford does own Jaguar. The reliability is questionable since we all know both Ford and Jaguar do not have the best records. In summary the reality is this car is a Sable in Jaguar clothing! Remember, you get what you pay for.

I love this car. Drove both the 3.0 liter and the 2.5 liter and did not find much difference. The styling is fantastic. The car did need an alignment if the first week and the paint started to chip. Jaguar immediately corrected these problems. I also heard a supercharged model is coming in a few years.

This sweetheart is no baby. The x-type is a proud new standard bearer in the small European sport coupe tradition. And thank goodness because I had been worried about how to replace my Alfa 164 being loathe to purchase some hyped up classless German go-cart diminutive offspring of a tank. This is a car designed for people. This car also isn't an American or Japanese marshmallow with leather standard. If you get upset because you feel the road under your seat, this is not the car for you. But if you want a well-built, luxuriously appointed, fun to drive car that lets you feel the road, I have driven nothing better.

Bravo to Ford for resurrecting this line of vehicle. Do not let the reviews fool you; this is a nice car for the money. The 2.5 is quick enough and very nimble. In fact, the 3.0 does not feel that much quicker. The dual exhaust (Y-Pipe) is a nice surprise for the '03 model year producing more torque at higher speeds. Jaguar service is superb and is welcome after SUFFERING through VOB Nissan in Rockville, MD service for years. Free maintenance is what finally swung my decision to lease this car. The Jaguar loyalty program and road-side assistance are also very nice.

Took delivery of my new X-type in December. The motor runs well, the car is quiet. Handling, however, is not good. The car and steering wheel bounce and rumble - perhaps the AWD gears aren't smooth. As a result, the car has very poor feel of the road, since the steering wheel bounces on its own, along with the car freame - worse as the car speeds up. Ride is adequate at low speeds, however. The seat was loose and the tires underinflated and way out of balance as delivered. Handling improved a little when I had the tires balanced, but still not right (see above). Still a Ford, and a great disappointment.

The X-Type is an excellent all-weather car with tons of Jaguar options. On the negative, the build quality is disappointing - coolant leak, driver seat repairs, interior trim rattles & squeaks, and the car is less than 3 months old. Jaguar is good about fixing the issues & service is what you expect from a high-end car company. Even with those issues, I still rate it very high -- the rattles don't impact the all-round performance of the car. It beats the SUVs in poor weather performance & fuel economy, not to mention the status of being a Jaguar. Oh yes, the price was less than most SUV's too.

I just bought a 2.5 automatic X-Type. I live in the Philly area and we have been getting some snow this winter. This car handles the snow like it is not even there. The AWD is great! The car also stands out and gets a lot of looks from others. I have been very happy with this car and would highly recommend it.

My x-type has 4000 miles and is going into the shop for the 3rd time. I have an annoying whistle, so they replaced the drive shaft, but the whistle came back. Now I am waiting for a new transmission, they think that is where the noise is coming from. The other problem is with the gas tank design. If the gas pump hits the door spring the wrong way, it knocks the spring off and you can't open the door, unfortunately Jaguar didn't design the car with a release in the trunk, so I had to go back to Jaguar to get the tank door opened before I could get gas. For the money, I expected a much smoother ride and it isn't there.

As a previous Audi A4 and BMW 323i owner, I know great entry level luxury sedans. Service is the differentiating factor here. BMW service is the most awful, painful experience ever! Audi is great, but the old A4 was too tight inside. The X-type gives you performance and a service/dealership experience far superior to BMW or Audi. To the car - great car inside and out for an unbelievable price. We got the factory lease deal and had a no haggle price. Wood dash, great leather, and all-wheel drive makes this car hard to beat.

We were looking for an affordable sporty sedan a la Infiniti G35, Audi A4, Cadillac CTS etc. and were actually not planning to test drive the Jaguar given the mixed reviews regarding the early 2002 models. However, my wife pushed for a test ride; we were surpised to find ourselves hooked. The car handles very well. The 2.5 is plenty sufficient to keep things interesting. While maybe not as fast as the G35, the car is lots of fun to drive and has character. With the free service and our deal price of $28,000 for a base model/manual, the value is high. 1k on the car to date.

I have found the X-Type a joy to drive, being surprised with its acceleration and handling. After switching between my Vette and the Jag., the usually reorientation between vehicles has narrowed considerably. Wisconsin winters no longer are the challenge they were in the past. Styling is a plus. Its is super ego boost to have the number of people who stop to look her over at the malls, stations, etc. Very pleased with the purchase of my little cat.

I bought the X-Type for my own 50th Birthday! So far I have covered just less than 1000 miles, so it is admittedly a little early to say, but the car has been faultless, both on delivery and in use. Mine is a manual Sport - I didn't want the auto on this car. The car is much quieter than I expected and very refined, such that now I tend to listen to classical music! Lots of extras made the car rather expensive - these are mainly individual in the UK, not big option packs as in the States. Would definitely recommend the reverse-park sensor which I have, as rearward visibility is not too good. Standard headlights are quite good, but I wish now I'd bought the Xenon option.

I got this X2.5 only a week ago, but I am quite impressed by its handling and the smooth ride. Before this car I leased a BMW 328i(99 model), it was a fine car with nice handling. But the gas mileage sucked and the ride was quite bumpy. The X-type feels much stabler and smoother on the highway. And I like the handling of X-type better. One complain is the space (head room and leg room) should be bigger.
