My wife and I are now Piloteers. I bought my first pilot--an'03--in 2013. The guy I bought if from had sent his last kid to college and didn't need the extra car, otherwise I'm sure he would've kept it. It had 245,000 miles on it. Since we've owned it (it's been my wifes primary driver) we've rolled it up to 278,000. Other than standard maintenance, I've put no money into it. It literally still handles like it's brand new. The invinceable V-tech engine is very quiet, and the transmission doesn't slip in the least. As of a week ago, we are now piloteers for life. I gave away my perfectly good Chrysler Pacifica and bought my wife a newer pilot with half the mileage. The '03 is now mine. I will never buy another vehicle. When my oldest gets into high school (in the next two years) I will give him the '03 and buy another. Make no mistake, the honda pilot is the absolute distance you can take your dollar. It is well worth the money.

I brought home my first born from the hospital in my new Honda Pilot. After 200,000 miles in ten reliable years, I must say that it has been a pleasure owning it. "Hans" my daughter named it, the ultimate compliment; rides as smooth as it did when first purchased. It would be nice to buy a new car but just can't let go of it to see how far it'll go! Many say it's a 300K miles automobile.

My wife always liked her pilot better than my RX300. Both are 2003. I traded my lexus after 10 years ln 2013 for a Camry Hybrid, as we no longer need 2 SUV's in the family, and she didn't want to give up her Pilot. We have spent little or no additional money on the car and it now has 111,000 miles and going strong. I have to say, this car is a good buy. She still doesn't want to trade it, but we've been looking for new car that has an automatic lift gate for her. Maybe now?

Pilot is the best

We bought the car new in Oct of 2002. The tires were replaced at 84K...still have original brakes at 102K. Never so much as an alignment needed. The usual oil changes and a timing belt is all I've done in 11 years. The best car we ever owned! Update...After 14 years no rust, interior/exterior looks great, still running the factory plugs, may be the last car I ever need.

I live in the mountains of NC. The roads are very dangerous here, esp. in the winter. I test drove my Pilot in a snow storm, and bought it for its size and great gas mileage. i Never got stuck in the snow. and i drove this past winter for an hour from boone to beech mountain Everyday. nothing, and i mean nothing ever went wrong in the car. the only things i spent money on were literally break pads and a few oil changes. it was at 125k when i recently hit a deer going 70mph and its now totaled and im now heartbroken. there seems to be something seriously wrong with every SUV i consider to replace my pilot with. i loved luxury cars but now im feeling more sensible... and a grille guard is ness

Window regulator problem

Have really loved the Pilot since we bought it new. We are having trouble with the leather seats coming apart, but that we can deal with. The major problem is we have now replaced all 4 of the window regulators once and one of them twice! Three this year. This is really irritating because they just go down all of a sudden when driving along or when parked at a parking lot we come out and one will be down! We are lucky we haven't had it stolen. Plus in the desert in the middle of the summer it sucks to have a window all a sudden falls down! As well as the $350 it costs each time to fix. Honda rep says there isn't a problem are we the only ones with this problem?!

Our Pilot has been family owned since new and was dealer maint. up to 80K. We bought it from her parents with 80K miles. It's hardly even needed any maint. done. I did the timing belt/waterpump/plugs @ 107K, the first brake job was done at 125K. We drive mostly highway. Here's the catch: The first transmission went out at 130K miles. Honda quoted us $3,700 to replace it with a factory reman. with a 3-year/36K warranty. We had them replace it because we didn't want to ever have to worry about it again. Now 2 years later @ 172K and the transmission needs to be replaced again. They won't cover anything because we have put 42K on it. They quoted us $4,700. Can YOU afford one? We can't.

I also have a 2003 honda pilot. We have kept up on all maintenance on this vehicle. Had drive light flash and was told 4th gear pressure sensor was bad, had that fixed. A month later my transmission starts acting up, take to dealer and they told me I needed a whole new transmission and was gonna cost us $3000.00 to fix

Had the torque converter and transmission replaced with only 89k miles under normal driving conditions. Total cost was over $3600. Better have deep pockets for Honda repairs, as they love their parts.

My wife loves her Pilot. We purchased this vehicle with 67,000 miles. At 120,000 miles, we changed the front struts and the right axle. May have something to do with the 2 deer we hit. At 140,000 we had to replace 2 switches in the transmission and have had no problems with it at all since. We did change the timing and water pump at 175,000. Even though it was suggested at 100k. Over all we are well pleased with our purchase and are looking for 350,000 miles plus. Right now we are driving at 188,000 miles.

2003 Pilot Transmission Failure

Bought certified pre-owned in 2005 with 30K miles. Bought extended warranty. Paid off last month and warranty ran out 8-9-2010, trans failed 8-23-2010. No help from warranty but Honda paid 25%. Picked up today and drove 1/4 mile and it made a grinding noise with ABS and VTM lights coming on. Waiting on Monday. All dealer service since purchased.

Overall performance is very good. AWD is excellent in wet and snow covered roads. After installing a K & N air filter highway mileage is as high as 25 mpg. What I do not like is the quality. Chromed door handles started peeling at 50,000 miles. Exterior paint marks up easily. Many little things continue to go wrong. My next SUV will not be a Honda.

My husband bought me a 2003 Honda Pilot EXL for Mother's day. We had just had a baby and I was driving a 2002 Mustang and needed something I felt would be safer. We had no major problems. The engine mounts had to be replaced and the transmission was beginning to act a little squirrelly. However, my husband wrecked it before we were able to get the transmission checked out. He fell asleep behind the wheel on the way home from work (oil field) and went off into a steep ditch hitting a concrete embankment which caused the Pilot to roll twice landing upside down when finished. My husband was not buckled and ended up in the back by the cargo door. He WALKED away with NO INJURIES. Thank you Honda!

We bought our 2003 Honda new and have close to 200,000 miles on the car. It is still going strong and we've had no problems. We have done all of the recommended maintenance as outlined in the Honda owners manual (oil changes, brakes, engine tune ups, etc.) The car has been great in the snow and with good tire tread(all season radials), we have had NO problems thus far. Reliability has been exceptional. The interior has held up fairly well after the wear and tear of three kids. Our oldest child is now driving and this car will probably be driven "into the ground" by her. Our experience has been so good that we are looking at the 2010 Pilot! Overall, we're happy with our Honda Pilot!

I love my Honda Pilot! It is a great SUV and very reliable. I have 140,000 miles without any problems! Except for the mpgs, I am spoiled driving my SUV. The only problem I can say I have with it is that I don't want to drive anything else now! I would and do personally recommend this vehicle to anyone, from two people to 5 adults and 3 children.

I bought this vehicle with the intent that it would be my daughter's first vehicle after she turned 16 this year and I would upgrade. This past week my daughter had her first accident which was a roll over. I cannot tell you how glad I am I bought this vehicle. It did everything it should have to protect her. Bought it used in 03 with 77k and have never looked back. It's the only car I have ever owned that I can actually drive all day and not have back and leg fatigue. It has performed flawlessly. After hearing others who owned Honda's, rant and rave about their reliability, I now have to agree with them. Two years later and 35000 miles, no issues! Our last car was a Sable wagon which by the same mileage was on it's second tranny and numerous other issues. Thanks Honda for providing such wonderful vehicles with such outstanding value!

2003 Pilot - 7 yrs old

I've had this car for 7 years and like all Hondas, it's been super reliable. I had to replace the stereo a year ago (it broke for no reason). It was $1000 to replace, so I bought an aftermarket, but the steering wheel controls won't work with it now. The interior door handle was plastic with "metal tape" over it and it was peeling, so I had to replace it. I hate the removable headrests for the 2nd/3rd row seats (big pain), but they've redesigned them in 2009. Overall it's been a great car and I'm buying another Pilot now (2010), which is even better designed. I love Hondas!

Having owned and driven multiple Honda Accords since a 1979 model, I was expecting a similar non-eventful and reliable experience with a 2003 Pilot that was purchased used. But the transmission has just failed at 140k miles. Sadly, this is standard for the Honda Pilot if you quickly glance around the internet. The same problem extends to other Honda models with the V6: the Accord, Odyssey, and Acura TL. These and other Honda transmission issues have been subject of numerous recalls and class action suits over the years. I am otherwise a Honda fan and enjoy the Pilot, but this one reliability issues is a serious shortcoming that anyone purchasing must be financially prepared for.

3 Years of Driving

As the title states, I've owned my 03' for 3 years. In that time, I've put 60K miles on it and drove it from AK to FL and several trips in the CONUS. No major issues. Minor issues: recommended tune-ups are costly, both the 60K mile tuneup and 90K mile tune-up were around $1000 each. To get fully installed towing package, another $1000. Drive train belt, another grand. At 100K miles, just as another owner here stated, my speaker system is going downhill. During long trips, I notice a buzzing sound coming out of the speakers. Annoying enough to shut music off. Great storage cubbies in front for maps, flashlights, etc.

2003 Pilot with 210k miles

Have had mixed results with my 2003 Pilot. Have had two major transmission repairs, one covered by warranty and the other one cost me $900. HOWEVER, the biggest disappointment has been the RES (rear entertainment center). There is an annoying low frequency buzz that appears on both radio and DVD play. While it's minorly annoying on the speakers it incapacitates the wireless headphones. Unfortunately, Honda's solution is to replace the whole unit for a fee of $1700. Have mixed opinions of purchasing another Pilot.

I purchased this car used/certified with about 10k on. I have driven it from state to state and just love the way it drives. We have dubbed it the "TANK" because we were rear ended twice while sitting at a stand still and virtually no damage to the Honda. The cars that hit us on both occasions folded up like a slinky. Will drive this car until it falls apart. I LOVE IT.

Average over 20K miles/year with 4 kids and have had minimal issues. Replaced 2 motor mount and other than that just normal maintenance of tires, battery, brakes, etc. Driven to east coast and Florida numerous times from Midwest. Tow boat and wave runner regularly. Excellent responsiveness and great maneuverability.

2003 Pilot Falling Apart

I have a 2003 Pilot EX-L with RES with 79,000 miles. Gradually, the thing is falling apart. After 3 years, the A/C broke. Shortly after that, 2 door locks broke. The quality of the leather is terrible. The driver's side visor mirror cover broke. The plastic on the bottom side of the driver's side broke off. One of the rear A/C vents broke. The car is even starting to rust right in the middle of the passenger's side door for no apparent reason! This is unbelievable! When I speak to Honda about these issues, they say they have never heard of such problems. However, I am finding by reading online that my problems are quite common. What has happened to Honda's quality?

The heating /cooling ventilation system is poor, bad circulation, side windows ice up inside during driving to ski resorts. Car seats 7 passengers and one driver, but windows fog up all around vehicle interior with only three passengers. Seats are built so close together, impossible to get fingers down to floor level to retrieve dropped coins, credit cards, vacuum crumbs etc, hard to clean carpets as nozzle does not fit in such tight spaces where seats are anchored. Plastic in vehicle is poor quality, breaks easily. Had number of factory recalls for safety restraint systems, All in all, a poorly-designed car.

I bought this car coming from owning a Toyota Sienna Van. I had owned Toyotas for years and years and was nervous to switch, but the third row seat sold me. I have never had a problem with this car in 5 years. I have replaced the tires and the battery, and probably need brakes, but nothing has ever broken down on it. It is roomy, even in the third row. I have had 8 adults in this car several times and everyone survived. The interior was well thought out. I'd own another Honda. (I only wish it had rear camera or sensors. - My Honda has a dent in the back hatch.)

Most everything is OK with the Pilot with the exception of the transmission. I would strongly recommend that anyone buying a Pilot to plan on trading the Pilot before the power train warranty runs out. If not, you will be facing a $2500 fix. Pilot had a transmission recall but it was not a very good fix. Also radio and CD player are poor quality. Had to replace.

Warning: Do not but Honda Pilot with V6 and auto tranny. My tranny went out after warranty went out. Even dealer told me that there was a problem with the Pilot and the V6 with auto tranny. A $2500 fix for me. I am a disabled veteran and live on a fixed income. Bought Pilot expecting to get about 250,000 miles out of it. What a joke. If you buy, plan on trading before power train warranty runs out. Do not end up with the same problem that I did. Warning. Do not buy Honda Pilot with V6 and auto tranny.

I would not recommend the Honda Pilot to anyone that intends on keeping the vehicle for a long time. My transmission went at 101,000 miles and the maintenance had always been done by the book. Looking at $2500 to replace transmission. Once repaired, I will make sure that it belongs to someone else within a few days. Will not buy another Honda. I have owned a couple of Honda Accords and they were good cars. The Pilot Sux. Wanted something bigger because I am a disabled veteran with leg injuries and needed the extra leg room. If you but a Pilot, you had better buy the triple super duper extended warranty with it, because you will have transmission problems.

A Great SUV without the bulk

We bought this is may of 2006 for 18k with 34k miles on it. I replaced the tires and brakes, along with fixing the rear a/c ($50) and 5 minutes of my time to install the new part. My wife primarily drives this car, and she has really enjoyed it. It has proved excellent in the snow here I despite being able to carry 8 people, this car is only slightly longer than my 98 Subaru wagon. We have taken many 1000 miles trips, and have been very impressed in the power and handling. On trips averaging 80-85 mph, we average a bit over 20 mpg which is outstanding considering the size and power. Even with all season tires, the awd does great, and the vcm lock is great for really slippery conditions.

Have only owned this vehicle for around a month, but love it! Replaced a worn out Mercury Sable wagon with it and never looked back. It drives impeccably and handles like a dream! Even though it has 78000 miles on it, runs like new. I have owned other Japanese vehicles in the past and loved them. This by far is the most comfortable and best handling of any!

Had A GM, wouldn’t quit breaking so we went and tried the Honda Pilot. Paid sticker as there was no bartering at the time. Outstanding value for the money. Held up great as my wife is hard on vehicles. The only thing I did to it was add an aftermarket transmission cooler as we live in a hot climate. This vehicle has been that reliable that I would replace it with another. Maintaining it is easy for do it yourselfers also.

This car runs great, love the interior except for the consoles. Gas mileage is horrible I feed this baby once a week. Problem with dampness/wetness on the carpeting from drivers side and passengers side. Had it serviced twice. So buyers beware, have it serviced by a mechanic before you purchase a used Pilot.

Leased my pilot the first year out, and will never do that again. I have been unhappy with this car since the first month I bought it. There are things that you don't realize in your 10- minute test drive. My biggest complaint is the extremely poor design of the driver seat -it leans back instead of supporting your head,it protrudes behind your shoulders, and there is no lower back support. I get back aches whenever I drive more than 20 minutes. Also, very little leg room for us long-legged drivers. Other problems I've had: struts were replaced after 2 years, shifts roughly going uphill, loud squeaking when backing up,front air-vents won't stay stationary. Can't wait to turn it in!

We purchased a '03 White EX-L with Gray leather 10/02 - to this day, the paint still shimmers like new, leather takes wear & tear but is flawless. This is my everyday car, 66k, no problems. Impeccable fit & finish. Extremely comfortable on a 16 hr trip. Amazing mpg, I average about 23 mpg on a tank of gas. Likes being light footed, heavy footers will suffer. Great ergonomics. Rides better than my wife's Sequoia that cost me 44k. Feels big & safe like a truck. Lots of room to spread out & huge cargo room when seats folded. Only thing done was scheduled maintenance, tires/brakes at 42k, & trans. recall. No competition, Def buying again. If its well pampered, nothing goes wrong!

After test driving 6 other Hondas (CR- Vs, Accords, Element) I was lucky enough to get a super-clean "pre- owned" 2003 Pilot in March of 2006 with only 22k miles on it. I'd had a Jeep Cherokee for 11 years before that, so there was a huge difference in ride comfort (long overdue!). The professional reviews are right, it drives like a luxury sedan and I don't think I've ever been in anything more comfortable. I'll be hanging on to this one for years to come...

My family and I absolutely LOVE this SUV! It's affordable and reliable, which is what I need with two young children. I bought my Pilot used, but in my opinion, Honda's don't start running good until they reach 60 k miles! One more year and I will trade my old Pilot in for an 07'. I can't wait! It has plenty of room to haul my kids' friends around in, plus some. It travels good, rides great, and I just love it! I would highly recommend the Pilot to anyone with a small or large family. It's just the right size no matter what you're doing.

Chosen for the 3rd row seat and fun to drive, the Honda Pilot is a great family car. The feelings of safety and power are comforting. The ventilation is strange-if one window is open, the air pressure is overwhelming and more windows need to be opened to compensate. Only one other problem in 3 years- the front row passenger side door lock stopped working with the remote. Sold with only 34,000 miles after 3 years, I got only half what I paid for it, and it was in good shape.

This is my fourth SUV. I love just about everything about it! It rides like you are driving on a cloud with plenty of interior space, extra seating in the back, seat belts for all passengers, leather to sink into, and great handling on the road. There are only two cons I can think of. Some wind noise over 15-20mph with just one window down (when two are down, the noise is gone)....Small sliver space in front area between the console and driver and passenger seats is hard to clean. Thats it! When I get ready to sell this Pilot, I will definitely be looking at another one!!

Very comfortable and stable ride. AWD works extremely well. Pulled a 7 foot Hobie Cat in deep sand! 8 seats a bonanza with visiting grandchildren. 1 recall seanless. Took extended warranty as we bought the 1st model year, probably will never use it. Only problem we have had is collection of "carbon" on gas pedal mechanism causing sticking.

I have never been happier with any auto purchase, than with the Pilot. Its just awesome, loads of room, and extremely reliable. This is my first Honda car and I'm trilled with my choice! I bought it for the legendary Honda reliability and did not regret it for a second. Pilot drives pretty good if you take size of this truck into consideration. Performance on snow is unreal. In the winter, I park in the biggest pile of snow I can find, and Pilot gets in and out without any problems every time.

The gas mileage for the first year was 19 on the highway, but now we get 24. The back seat area needs more room if you have kids. The factory tires are terrible. Road noise, uneven wear.

I bought a Honda because I had always heard how reliable they were. They are just about the ugliest cars on the market, but the Pilot had several features that I really wanted, seating for eight passengers, integrated DVD system, and fairly good gas mileage. The warranty is not nearly as good as Hyundai, but I didn't think that would be an issue.

I purchased my Pilot in Jan of 2006, and it's the best decision I've made. Prior to purchasing, I researched every SUV out there, and test drove a few. This vehicle drives and rides like a luxury car! It doesn't feel like you're driving an 8-passenger vehicle, has more than sufficient power, very roomy in front and middle rows for large adults, great cargo space, and looks quite stylish. I have the EX-L model loaded with everything. Kids LOVE the DVD player. I love that they can listen with wireless headphones and I can play my CD or Radio! Leather seats remain beautiful and are easy to clean up! Not a single hint of mechanical problems! Drives great--everyday!

My first Honda was and is a 1995 Accord. It now has 230,000 miles on it and I'm still using it. I was so impressed, I bought my Pilot, and with 80,000 miles on it, it has been in for repairs once---to replace the rear door struts. This is a excellent vehicle.

towing a 3,500 lb. travel trailer with no problem and still maintain 18 mpg at 60 mph. on a hot florida day with the air on and still plenty of power to pass slower vehicles with ease is a credit to this vehicles performance and quality. the normal in town avrage is17mpg with 22.3 best on hiway with 2 persons on board.

My wife drives the car the most, especially in town. I drive on the highway. While the gas mileage is low compared to a sedan, she feels that the in-out comfort and the high view the car affords her are wonderful. The engineers and designers have invested a lot of thinking into the interior design of the car and have come up with another winner. There was one small glitch involving shifting to a lower gear(automatic), but we figured it out.

My Pilot just turned 50K miles and I've had no problems at all. I've driven in the snow and ice, and it performed very well. It's been reliable and a pleasure to drive as well as economical compared to the larger SUV's on the market. I would highly recommend a Pilot.

I have about 41,000 miles on it now, and it looks and runs like new. Knock on wood, there have been no problems. Folding down the seats and hauling heavy loads is a cinch. It is also easy to pack nine of the family into it, with plenty of cupholders and outlets for MP3's. There is a lot of road noise, and I seldom use the radio at highway speed because of it. Otherwise, it is comfortable to drive, dependable and convenient.

The car is well made and drives easily with a lot of comfort. It is a remarkable bargain considering it costs some $10,000 less than the Acura MDX with which it shares more than chassis. Have had no problems though its width can be deceiving, particularly in a parallel parking situation.

I purchased this vehicle new. I have 42,000 miles on vehicle. Not typical Honda quality. Warranty items replaced recalled: new vent, new console top, transmission oil cooler kit recal, and finally EGR valve recall. The VTM4 light and Engine service light has been coming on for the last 1000 miles. I have had it to the dealer 4 to 5 different times and it is still not fixed. The last thing the replaced was the VTM4 control module $800 dollars and it did not fix it. This has been very frustrating and you would not expect this from a Honda product that cost $32,000 new. Very disappointing.

i initially considered toyota highlander,lexus 300,4 runner, envoy and acura mdx. thought the acura was the best. this car is the mdx for $10,000 less.after 80,000 mi. i couldn't be happier. reliable, comfortable and fast. (kept up with my boxter in acceleration with my wife driving). i've replaced the tires and brake pads, the inside front door handles and changed the oil, that's all the maintenance. not a squeak from the interior and it pulled me out of a 31 inch snowfall in 4 whl low.i will buy this model again.

I bought the Honda for the ability to car pool kids, take road trips, great value and to know that I have a very reliable vehicle that wont cost me much to maintain. I have not been disappointed. I knew that I was buying a boring SUV in terms of style and performance. Of course, I have typically owned BMW's but the X5 only seats 5. Plus, I would have had to buy a three year old X5 for the price of a new Pilot. A no brainer. I drive my 10 year old BMW 318 ic to work and for fun! The Pilot comes out on the weekends and the evenings when car pools are in order. I highly recommend the Pilot, but dont expect to take those corners at 80. PS:gas mileage has been disappointing 15-16 mixed

Before purchasing the Pilot, I leased the RX300. The Pilot rides almost as nice as the Lexus. The Pilot is great in the snow and very comfortable on long trips. The NAV works great and is easy to use. The only item that required replacement was a burned out headlight bulb after 50000 miles. I would definetely purchase this vehicle again.

All around good vehicle, 4WD works great in snow, gas mileage is about 20. Has area between front seats that collect trash and its almost impossible to clear. I traded in my 850 Volvo Wagon for the Pilot - I can't believe how much more I enjoy the car. The space is great! All three kids can bring a friend and watch a movie while I can listen to whatever I want. It has 32k miles and not a single proble! Great Car!

Having just re-read the long term test for the 2003 Pilot I wanted to relate my long term opinion. First, the Pilot was the family choice over a mini-van. It is used 60/40 for city/highway driving. It has been extremely reliable everyday. It hauls; 4 to 6 teens daily with backpacks, music instruments, ect. Bikes, sleds, and two retrievers on selected weekends. In other words this is the perfect urban/suburban vehicle. If you are researching the Pilot please read the long term test and you'll find that the 2005 Pilot corrects all of the negatives in the article. Coming out of the third northern Ohio winter with my 2003 Pilot, I wouldn't want any other SUV.

Always wanted a Pilot but was unwilling to pay 'going price'...finally got used one with trade of CRV. Rides high and big like a truck which gives me an added sense of safety/security on these narrow mountain roads. Love the ride and handling. Storage compartments are very functional. Driver's seat with lumbar knob makes for VERY comfortable ride.

This is a great vehicle. Driving it is fun....I feel safe, and it goes VERY well in snow. Bought the car used, was hesitant at first, but it was the right decision. Not very good on gas, and that is really the only drawback. Honda's certified used program is excellent. My wife has a CRV we bought new in 1999, has 67000 miles on it and it's been in for service once, and that was for brakes. I am a big Honda fan.

Only minor glitch was some chrome plating peeling on the inside of the driver's door--promptly fixed by dealer under warranty. Car is excellent in all aspects but one....with the roof rack and cross bars, there is an annoying road whistle at highway speeds. This should be redesigned.

Bought new and have put on 33000 miles in 18 mos. Only problem was needed battery replaced due to defect under warranty. My wife loves it and tells everyone. Tight turning radius, rides like a car. Excellent family car.

So far at 30000 miles only problem was with the rear wiper motor. After test driving the awkward and cumbersome Expedition, I found the Pilot a pleasure to drive the leather seats are divine and the vehicles ergonomics are delightful! The modular setup of the center console makes organizing gadget easy. The Pilot is great in the snow but due to its minivan platform serious off-road and towing capabilities are limited. The fuel economy is better than most SUVs but the industry has miserably failed consumers in fuel efficiency. If serious off-roading and/or towing aren't important you'd be hard pressed to find a better value SUV. I love this vehicle.

Other than the tranmission recall and free oil changes, was in shop once for RR door rattle, fixed. It lives up to it's calling, it seats eight, but only put small kids fit in back. Seats fold down for carrying cargo, hold road well, no vibration or other problems reported by others - that's with the Goodyear tires - the Bridgestone's don't do that. Problem reported about bad sound problem with windows down - that's only if you have just the rear windows down. Holds road well, 4WD works when needed. Looks like I'll get about 24K miles on original tires. Get 15MPG in tight city driving (Dallas), 19-20 on highway, I drive agressively. Carries a LOT with rear seats down. Pleasure to drive!

Accepting the fact that this is not a BMW in exterior design, a luxury car in sophistication, or a true off road suv, the Pilot comes very close to ideal. It has a smooth and powerful enough engine to manage tough and icy mountain slopes, maneuvers responsively through winding mountain roads or congested city streets. It handles great in inclement New England weather and it has an unbeatable safety record. It's only a little bit noisy (tire noise) but the engine is barely audible. Oh, and it's handsome enough for the country club and a lot cheaper than that MDX!

We had our Pilot for just about 2 years and had no problems with it. It was great for: (i) driving kids in the carpool to school, (ii) taking long trips (DVD in the car may be man's greatest invention); (iii) heading up to the mountains for skiing. I was involved in an accident this past weekend and was broadsided at 55 mph. The Pilot is probably totalled, but my only injuries are bruising from the seatbelt. Since the car is probably totalled we will be getting another Pilot - It looks like it held its value beyond our expectations. Truly a great vehicle by a great company.

In general, the Pilot is a great all purpose vehicle. I have four kids and it fits them and my wife and our stuff comfortably. Drives like a car, easy to park, great sound system, handles well in most situations. Good acceleration and good braking. The ABS probably prevented a fender bender or two! Main issue is driving with windows open: YOU CAN'T! If you exceed 40mph with open windows, the resulting vibration is unbearable. Need to try those window air-foil things.

Its too bad the Edmunds ratings scale doesn't ask how I'd rate the value of the vehicle because it would certainly be a 10. Asking if a "utility" vehicle is fun to drive is just plain silly, so I'm forced to give it a 7, which drags down the average score. So one just needs to look past the numbers to see how this vehicle stacks up against the competition. If you want 3 rows of seats, AWD, power to spare, and 20 mpg, all for less than $30K, there's nothing better than this one.

Have had to have the disk brakes turned twice - first time at 15000 second at 29000. Honda claims it is environmental problems... disk brakes heat up and warp around 12-13000 miles each time. Other than that one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Have been advised I will have to replace the rotars (drums) by the time I reach 50000 miles. Thats a real problem and will probably drive me to another vehicle. Have two friends who have the same problem with brakes on their pilots as well here in El Paso.

The Pilot handles the road beautifully. It is easily the best driving SUV I've ever owned. The design of the car creates enormous interior space in a mid-size body. DVD/ Entertainment system is a god send on long drives with small children or with adults who act like small children. Engine is smooth and quiet while providing enough horsepower to easily accelerate at a speed that speeding tickets can become a problem.

I bought my Pilot in October of 2002 and have driven it over 43,000 miles as of July, 2004. I have not one complaint about this SUV whatsoever. It is extremely comfortable, even on long trips. The fit & finish is impeccable, there is plenty of room in the cabin, not to mention the generous storage compartments! The console is amazing with the cell phone holder, etc... I test drove the Explorer, The Mountaineer and The Jeep Grand Cherokee (The Cherokee was like driving a dump truck), None compared to the overall value & ride the Honda Pilot served up. I was hooked as soon as I got behind the wheel and started my test drive.

This is the best all around family vehicle. We traded an Odyssey for the Pilot. The Pilot gets the same gas mileage, seats one more, and drives better. The third seat is quite acceptable, and more comfortable and roomier than one in a Tahoe.

I have 13,000 miles on my honda pilot and it has been a solid purchase. I have read other reviews and agree with some of the minor problems. The lid on the center console was a problem in not staying latched. A few small rattles that come and go. I do not like the tires. The Bridgestone's are not up to the standards of others, I have tried to trade them in for better tires but the hit I would take is not worth it. Overall, I am happy with my honda. I will be taking a trip with it to Colorado from Wisconsin soon and have no doubt it will perform well.

Researching new vehicles already. Pilot is a let-down. Great value & great protection for me & 5 month old when hit (back driver-side) by a light- runner (40 mph w/$10k damage). The problem - the roof rack piece falling off & after 5 trips to the dealer they can't get rid insane rattling (windows+). My husband hates the road noise & the signature sound rounding corners. After looking at the Yukon and Sequoia, I'm going to miss the storage and my payment. If only...

We have owned the EX Pilot for about 10 months now and have 10K on it right now. There have been two problems with the car which were taken car of, the center console lid would not stay closed and there was a body popping sound in the left front fender (loose strut mount nut) The ride is great especially for long trips. It also has handled the snowy High Sierra with ease. Three dislikes are poor fuel economy 15 MPG 17 MPG, could use a tad more power (MDX engine would be great), and brake life appears to be much shorter than what I expect to be "normal" based on the 7500 Honda maintenance check.

We have come to "like" the car, but after numerous attempts to figure out what causes the wheel vibration - I am about to loose it. New Tires, 6 wheel balanceing efforts (with Hunters 3-way Road Force machine) all to no avail. Smooth as can be until 70mph and then hold on for any increase speeds after that. Other - overall - reliability has been poor - heater blower, two vents, front strut have all needed replcaing.......this is not up to Honda's standards

I can't believe I've taken this car to 52,704 miles so far. It has never been in the shop for anything other than scheduled maintenance. They took care of recalls during sched maint. Honda of Santa Monica takes care of me big time. California doesn't offer harsh winter weather to really test the vehicle but it has been to Tahoe(winter), survived pretty bad rains and even the nasty fires of so cal., and the dreaded heat of Las Vegas, NV. I've been getting 20mpg highway lately. I took a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee to 242,000 miles and I sunk so much money into it by the 50,000 mile mark. The Pilot so far has been its weight in gold.

Amazing how much room has ben engineered into the cabin. Very spacious and comfortable design. Ride quality is excellent, 4WD performed very well during winterstorms. Fuel mileage is excellent, with regular fuel! Has won so many awards most notably from Consumer Reports 2 years running.

I realized that the Pilot drove more like a Honda (car) than a truck. I was aware of the convenient placement of the gauges, and the audio,heating and cooling controls. The interior of the Pilot was - well thought out, well constructed and pleasing to the eye. The configuration of the seats and the ease of converting the rear ones to allow for more space is a definite plus. The V-6 engine does its job well on the open road Overall my Pilot has lived up to my highest expectations.

I so wanted to love this car! But what a disappointment. Much of the blame goes to the service dept. at the dealership who scratched the ENTIRE side of my car when it was in for running board installation. This led to a trip to their body shop, which tore my car apart to repaint. Voila! I was left with a whistling windshield, ill-fitting moldings and clanky suspension noises. Back to the service dept.---> windshield still whistles, & the clanking has been replaced with a bucket-of-bolts-style clicking noise from the brakes. "Pilots are known for this" says the service guy. Lovely. To make a long story short, my Pilot's for sale. I'm getting a BMW.

The Honda Pilot, as delivered, suffers from such bland styling that one of the men at my regular tire dealer doesn't ever remember seeing one! It is a very competent vehicle, and the third row seating is what made it the vehicle of choice for the principal driver, my wife. We have 4 young grandchildren. We added the factory chrome trim on the bumpers, 18" chrome wheels, and the custom Honda front grill/bumber module. It looks much better, and we get a lot of looks, especially from other Pilot drivers. We think they believe it is a "Special Limited Edition" model, or an unavailable "test model".

I have had my Pilot since June 8 2002 the week it was officially released. I Have only had to bring it in for the 2 major recalls . Other than that i have only had some very minor nits. i.e. the driver side windshield washer nozzle sometimes leaks without using them. I have driven my car in Death Valley and on the dirt roads around Southern California. Works great to me. One thing though is I take my Pilot to Acura for the major services since Honda dealers around here seem to nickel and dime you for certain things that are supposed to be done. I've bought many Honda products in the past 27 years because of the excellent quality. However, this Pilot EX-L came with 2 defects, the unbalanced Goodyear Integrity Tires caused steering wheel vibrated and the 5-10 second ignition strat in the cold winter (Vancouver, BC, Canada; inside my garage with temp around zero degree C). The vibration problem is improved after dealer trip, now still some inconsistent vibrations during 120 km and up. The dealer promise to replace the iginition problem after Honda come with new improved designs in 2004. Overall, Honda Pilot is a good SUV fitting our family life with reasonable price. I like it very much!

I've had 3 Ford Explorers, but never felt safe in the rain, esp. the last one.The Pilot sat down onto the road better, drove it in the rain and it really hugged the highway, so bought it immediately.AWD is responsive to road condtions.Good brakes in an emergency without the shudder like some other cars. Roomy feel of larger interior, even for 6"4" husband. Gas milage is 19.5/18.5. Solid doors, easy to use back hatch door.Easy fold seats in back 2 rows. Comfortable 2nd row seating, even for adults on long trips.

First Honda. Big mistake. Rattles and squeaks over Western PA roads. Problems starting in cold weather. Rear brakes cause major concern. They get stuck and heat up until they smoke. The rear wheels get so hot from the brakes, you cannot touch them. Seems worse when very cold outside. Seems like the emergecy brake gets stuck on. When they get stuck, brakes cause the car to feel like it is driving over rumble stips. Dealer cannot figure it out after several repair attempts. Claims Honda cannot figure it out and no problems reported by others. Unsafe. Trading it in with disclosure.

I love my Pilot. I read all these reviews before I bought mine in 10-02. Best things about the Pilot are-it's a Honda, very reliable! The center console area has tons of storage, plus a place to set my purse w/o it being on the floor. There is a lot of head room, and space on the back seat for 3, plus the 3rd row seat lays perfectly flat for storage. For the amount of space, power, smooth ride, and resale value...the Pilot is worth every penny!

I am very happy we have this vehicle....it drives like a dream on both sideroads and highways. We can take up to 8 people ( even though only small people can fit into the back)! The 4x4 driving in the winter is pretty impressive (and fun too). We love how the seat heaters warm us up on those cold nights.........and the cool air conditoning cools us down on those hot days! Altogether............what an incredible vehicle.It has been everything we have asked for and more!

Solid is the best way to describe this vehicle. Lots of room, quality, safety, practicality and a good sound system. Very comfortable and high resale value. Does everything exceptionally well. Looks are, well ........ unremarkable but certainly not offensive. Honda describes it as classic SUV. This vehicle is about 4-6 " wider than most SUV's and weighs nearly two tons. As a result, it provides terrific traction in the snow. If you do all of the research and then opt for a different SUV, I'll be really surprised. In terms of the money, quality and value, I don't think you can do better. It's a terrific vehicle and priced under $30,000.

Flawless, absolutely no trouble vehicle for last 18 months since purchase. Very smooth and comfortable highway cruiser. Would have liked the option of factory heated seats and a power passenger seat as well as a sun-roof option. Did not need or ever use the third-row seating - it should've been an option

I love my Pilot, but the things I would changeare: the gas tank only holds enough gas (17 gal I think) @ 15 mile per gallon, to get me throught 6 days. also I hate the noise/vibration when the kids roll down the windows in the middle row of seats. It does take a couple of times to start in the winter.

Initially the Pilot appeared to be a great car. However, throughout this past year it has lost its luster. The overall poor quality of the interior design became apparent. The heating system is slow in the dead of winter and cracking the windows in the summer will blow your ear drums out. There are problems with the seatbelts retracting properly – driver seatbelt buckle beats up interior plastic while rear seatbelts become curled and won’t retract. The chrome finish on parts of interior scratched easily and has worn off excessively only after one year of low use. In short, if you want a quality SUV, don’t buy a Pilot – it’s not worth the money.

great acceleration. very comfortable. nice, smooth, quiet ride. best utility, gas mileage, acceleration, expected resale value, cargo space, in its class. this was our first honda. comparison shopped vs. trailblazer and explorer. from bumper to bumper, not as well designed or had the workmanship or materials of the pilot. explorer's workmanship and materials are a joke.

I've owned a Honda before (1986 Civic which still ran, no problems after 150,000 miles.) I was elated to see Honda come out with a larger SUV. It was time to trade in the mini-van (Chrysler) and I just wasn't ready for another mechanical nightmare. The Pilot is as roomy as that van and offers almost as much versatility. The ride is great. My husband has a bad back, and said it's the most comfortable ride he has had across country (over a van, a Civic and an Intrepid). I was worried that the gas mileage would be poor, but have found it actually gets a mile or two better per gallon in the city than most mini-vans. (Several miles better on the highway.)

Mpg is 15 around town. When back windows are down and the front aren't, there is a helicopter sound that almost blows out your eardrums. Got a recall on front airbags (blow out too fast on impact) but dealer couldn't fix problem without new tools to be sent from manufacturer. Has been driven in tons of snow but still have yet to use 4wd. Love interior space in Pilot vs. other mid-size SUV's. 3rd row seat works for 13 yr old who wants her own space. Added after-market DVD player for 1/2 the price, but got Honda run. boards, cross bars, wheel locks. $500 discount from intial contact w/dealer by internet.

We needed a bigger SUV for our family, because the Jeep Gr. Cherokee didn't have a 3rd row of seats. When the Pilot came out, we jumped at the chance to get one, especially w/ Honda's reliability. It handles AWESOME in 2 feet of snow. You actually CAN go off-roading in this SUV. And we were able to fit 8 in the Pilot this summer (4 adults and 4 baby seats). The Pilot has passed every test my husband has given it. He's very happy!

The Pilot is so quiet it is hard to know it is running. At highway speeds, the car is smooth, quiet and stable. It gives a car like ride while still being able to hit a pothole and not worry. The brakes are great, and the transmission shifts flawlessly. I have no regrets after purchase. The sound system is impressive. The fuel economy is not great, but better than the competition. Overal, this is a great SUV that beats the competition. The price is nice, but we could not bargain with the dealer, they aren't giving these Pilot's away for anything less than the sticker!

I have the all weather floor mats. After going to a commercial carwash and not realizing that they did not secure the mat to the pins the the floor. Upon entry to the vechicle I evidently moved the mat forward. Applying full throttle caused the pedal to stick open. The pins are not designed to accomodate the all weather mats. I would like to see a recall om this item.Wind noise from bug sheild is absurd!

Only a month ago, we went from a mammoth SUV to the Pilot -- great move! So far the Pilot has been fun to drive because it's easy to maneuver and it responds well. Visibility is much better than in taller vehicles or air tunnel-designed cars. Inside the Pilot, changing from the third row to more cargo space is a breeze! The optional cargo mat protects the third row and rolls up easily when the third row is in use.

Going on 7,000 miles an loving it. My husband and I researched mid size suv's for 6 months seperately before purchase For safety, price, roominess, gas milage, fun to drive and towablility the Pilot out-ranked every thing else. Our other car is a Porsche so family auto had to be fun to drive too, it is. As a travel soccer family we needed room for 4+ for long distance travel - kids don't argue in the back any more. Moved up from a Mazda MPV and haven't looked back! Really love this auto.
