Bought this car a little over a year ago with 111,000 miles on it - since then i've put in over 2000$ in repairs (rack and pinion, tires, struts, etc.) Since I bought the car for a good deal (only 1500) I'd say its an okay deal for what i've gotten out of it (two 6+ hour roadtrips) and daily reliable driver. However you can tell the car was made cheaply - parts of my side interior are falling off, buttons wearing down, little things breaking / falling off here and there. The interior is really nice (I have the SEL w/ tinted windows, leather seats, sunroof, 6 CD changer) and spacious as well but I plan on selling this car in fear of the rumored transmission issues.

The car looks and drives great to begin with, has lots of bells and whistles. It has gone though dealer inspection and check list w/o problems, and with assertions that car's parts are all in good health. Yet, with only 80K miles on it, it broke down in the middle of the highway at high speed and can not longer be driven. We were told it needs a new transmission in less than 30 days of occasional use and less than 1000 miles driven! Very very disappointed!

This is one of the most dependable cars on the market. Leg room is a plus, ease of handling great and not to shabby on the gas mileage!

Got it for $500 wouldn't go into gear replaced torque converter for 1200 ran great loved it had it for a month then someone t-boned me didn't get hurt at all. I would recommend it only if the torque converter is the remade one not the original other than that great car.

When I did the research, it seemed the Taurus, might be a good choice. The interior though dated, is nice and the seats are comfy and most creature comforts are there, with a few extras like a power driver side seat. Gas mileage isn't the best at about 26mpg on the highway and about 17mpg in traffic. I did see 28mpg on the highway, but that was only with real gas without the ethanol, which was expected. Everything seemed okay until one day, without warning, the transmission gave out in the middle of highway 441. I had it rebuilt, to the tune of $2700 dollars only for it to go out again exactly 6 months later. This will be the last Ford or Chevy I buy.

I drove an '03 Taurus for 7 years, and in that time I had to replace the transmission, the cam, struts, break lines, the muffler, and a multitude of repairs which I have repressed from my memory. The car produced phantom odors, odd sounds, and mysterious leaks. The front passenger floor flooded constantly for some reason. The gas mileage was terrible, I'd say around 18 highway and 12 city by a rough estimate. The transmission is twitchy so dont expect a smooth ride. Be prepared to spend a lot on repairs, my advice: save your money and buy a honda or something.

Going from a '97 Acura 2.5 TL to a 2003 Taurus was a bit different at first. I miss the sunroof and leather seats and climate control system my Acura had. Overall, I am very satisfied with my Royal Blue 2003 Taurus SE. I bought it on Valentine's Day 2012 and almost a year later and more than 20,000 miles putting it at 130,000 miles, I've only had to replace the starter, alternator, and battery which were all under warranty from JD Byrider (hence the 1 star for value because I'm overpaying for it). I have driven it from Jackson, MS to New Orleans and to Ole Miss numerous times and it has not failed me. Will keep til I can get a brand new black Ford Taurus SHO.

Best American car we've ever had.

I've had problems with Ford's in the past. Got this car for free, but it needed a lot of TLC because the previous owner neglected it. Bought and installed the parts myself, never had a problem with it. This car is absolutely amazing, nothing else like it. Just turned 100k miles and still running strong.

This was our first new car. From day one it has been awesome. Now almost 10 years and 244,000 miles later it continues to do whatever is asked of it. The Duratec 24v 3.0 is quite trouble free. It still has the original starter, alternator, and water pump. The trans is the same one it came with in 2003 and has never gave an issue shifting. Take care of your car and it will take care of you. Oil changes every 5k, trans fluid change, and fuel filter every 30k, coolant every 100k. Why I would ever buy a import after owning this car? It made us a Ford family for life.

I own a 2003 ses. I bought it with 40,000 miles for $9,500. It has all options except leather (I swapped the leather seats with my 2001 that I gave to the kids, it had 125,000 miles).I currently have 135k and am thinking about giving it to the kids. In all that time I have only done the brakes once as well as the stabilizer links. I completely tuned it recently. Since day one the transmission has hesitated when I started (when the car is hot) so I've learned to drive off easy. I average 22 mpg consistently on a tank of gas. I did notice the wheel well had some bubbling paint. Everything about the car is average, consider it's cheap and easy to fix. I own a 97, and 2-98's that my kids drive, I love them

I owned a 2003 Taurus SES for about 2yrs. White with dark tint windows, very sharp. Loved the super comfy seats, good power, everything seemed to be in its place, very easy for people unfamiliar with the car to get in and drive with no questions. had 60k when I bought it drove from Wyoming to Texas a couple times, and back and forth to work everyday, no issues other than transmission slipped from 1st to 2nd when I turned left and i was on the gas pretty hard a couple times. Sold it because I'm moving and it's been three days and I already miss it.

I was desperate to get a car while having bad credit. I had been unemployed for almost a year, had to turn in my previous vehicle. The dealer could smell my fear a mile away & took advantage of me .I thought I would have reliable transport. Oh, no. I've put $2000+ in repairs on this piece of crap in 2.5 years. Brakes squeal and 2 brake shops say they are very good. Something wrong with a rod and the radiator cracked sitting at home for 2 days. Windshield washers are disintegrated. I use a spray bottle. I hate the car. I should've taken more time to look around. No Fords OR Chevys for me EVER again. 21 mpg is NOT good mileage, either. It's another Edsel.

Love ford, and I have had other Taurus models. This one is not reliable, always in the shop. Very little pick up for a 6V engine. Brakes stink. Parts are of poor quality. Things break easily. Would not buy this year and model. For Ford, this is very POOR quality, redundant design, and low performance. Sadly, this is one of my worst cars.

I bought my wagon six years ago w/34k. I was initially hesitant to purchase since it was a rental vehicle but I got a really good deal. I now have 122k on it and it's still running strong. Other than a couple rounds of brakes, tires I've had little problems. An occasional heater fan, strut here and there; but it could've been much worse. I must admit it doesn't have a lot of frills; was surprised it came with a tape player (it's a 2003!) Mine came with the standard features, power windows, ac, cruise etc. The quality/ride of the car is ok; again, you get what you pay for. If you're looking for a station wagon in this era; the Taurus will get you the most for your money.

I purchased my Taurus w/17,000 miles on it. I have had excellent experience with the car, has sun roof, large truck, plenty of room in back seat. Other than regular service I have only had to have front brake job and new battery and tires. I now have 58,000 and still happy. I like the style, enjoy it every day and have made several long trips.

I really like my 2003 Taurus. The car has about 140,000 on it now and doesn't have the get up and go it used to (it does hesitate when accelerating quickly) but I have had minimal problems over the years. I deal with Birmingham stop & go traffic everyday with about a 30 mile commute so I do have to have regular brake maintenance but other than that I have no complaints. Very roomy so its great for tall people like me. I think its about ready to be traded in but I will miss it.

This is a decent, reliable car. Bought it 2 yrs old, at 36k miles for $ 9000, have driven it to about 129k, with no issues. So far I have spent about 250 for a water leak, brakes and oil changes. This car has been very reliable, a workhorse and inexpensive. Have gotten on an average 25 mpg for combined city and highway.

I purchased this vehicle with only 8000 miles...after 1 yr it started having problems that dealership doesn't know who to fix. Now it getting dangerous. It stalls out & start back up...all electrical comes on with a loud pop, the car dies and starts back up. I almost had a wreak because the steering shuts down during this time and I was not able to complete the turn. Reviewing the web others have had this problems too. I took it to the dealership many times but they could not find out what was causing it. This is the last Ford I will buy.

Bought this car with 39000 miles two years ago. Now has 69000 miles. No complaints with how the car has run so far. Roomy enough for a family of 4 with power enough to pass somebody while getting 26-28 mpg highway. I even drive it on our hunting roads where only trucks dare to travel, handles great. Stock CD player works great and has nice sound. Heating and Air conditioning work excellent. Easy to change oil yourself and perform any other maintenance. The car looks good too.

I bought her brand new on 4/19/2003. From the beginning she was reliable, strong & comfortable. Seriously, the most comfortable seats on long rides of any car I have ever owned. Reliability? Awesome. 77,500 miles later, besides regular service, I had to change the starter right at 5 years and the AC compressor at 5 years, all under warranty. Best car I have ever owned, for comfort, reliability, quality craftsmanship, and ride. I also own a Jaguar, which I love, but when my wife and I are going on a long drive, we take the most comfortable car, the 2003 Ford Taurus SE. Love it!

I've had the vehicle for a year now. I started with 89,000 miles on it. It now has 98,000. I love to drive. I have had only problems with the brakes. The line broke and the disk or something like that on the wheel broke cause I pressed on the brake too hard. So I rate the brakes really good. The car overall is very big on the inside. I've been into 2 wrecks with the car one with a deer and the other was I went under a semi trailer and the rear wheel hit the stands for the trailer. Each time I've never gotten hurt cause the air bags have worked each time. I don't know if it's supposed to but all the air bags went off in every case. It even went off when I hit the deer.

This is my only Ford car, and most certainly my last. Fords are not long- term cars. I bought the car from my employer off lease, dirt cheap (I drove it during lease). I have never spent so much repair money on a car with so few miles. Visually, the car is still in great shape. Paint and interior are perfect. The engine (base 3.0 V6) is quite underpowered, gets pitiful gas mileage, and is in need of a trip to the dealer for repair every few months. My GM (Buick) and Nissan cars have never cost me this much money in repairs. At 77k, I've repaired rain leaks on passenger floorboard, oxygen sensors, cam shaft sensor, and had transmission serviced 3 times. This is totally a disposable car.

We bought this to be our main family car (now that the kids are all gone). Had 28k on at time of purchase, 84k now. Had a few mechanical challenges, nothing unusual except the trans torque converter about 80k. No fireworks but is not unattractive. And, I can count on it. My mileage is better than most reviewers: 24 around town, up to 37 on a trip (yeah, you read that right!). In fact I just returned from a 400 mile trip and got 37.8. Double checked the math etc.! Just made a 04 Explorer our main car. Was going to replace Taurus with "fuel efficient car" but why bother?

I purchased my 2003 SES with 13,000 miles in September, 2003. Since then I have only had one repair (a $400 camsynchronizer). The car runs good with over 120,000 miles, I have yet to change the brakes or have any other repairs. As for fuel economy, I can get around 24 to 26 mpg on the interstate and around 18 to 20 mpg in town.

that this make of car is very poor. They know, because they repair this car so often.I should have listened to my dad, he said the car was junk and it really was. since the very beginning, the car had problems with transmission, broke in May 2007, the alternator, the catalytic sensor, the catalytic converter, etc. I invested $4000 in repairs. but I had enough, I divorced my car I cant have this constant stress about what will be next and really be stressed out about the cost. Also the interior is bad quality, thing are tearing apart. Sound is bad. Advice: before buying this car, ask mechanics and you will change your mind. Buy a good car, a Subaru or Toyota.

I've had my Taurus now for 4 years, and am absolutely delighted with it. I have about 105000 trouble free miles on it. The only problem I had was the remote keypad on the door went bad, and that was replaced under warranty. It gets great mileage on the hgy (27mpg). with the price of gas I sometimes think of trading it for a 4cyl Ford Fusion or similar vehicle, but their mileage isn't that much better than the V6 in my Taurus.

I like my Taurus with the DOHC engine and leather interior. I thought that there was a design problem with the fuel pump as I personally changed 3 in three years of ownership. On installation of the 2nd pump I bent the float arm so my gauge has been incorrect for almost a year. So this time I completely removed the tank from under the vehicle, carried it to the garage bench and low and behold I found a yellow workglove floating inside the gas tank. This car must have been built on a Monday with a disgruntled worker assembling the gas tank.It should run a little better without the restriction on the suction side of the fuel pump? Note: the interior dimensions are kind of small for a carsobig

All around this is a great car. You can't beat the trunk space without getting an SUV. Cloth seats could be more comfortable. I have leather seats in my Taurus sedan that are way better. Great car with seating for 8 if you're small enough. Strong engine with no problems anywhere on the car. Biggest complaint is that the color shows door scuffs.

I bought this SEL off of an indivdual with 73K on it back in June. What a mistake. The starter went out on it 2 weeks after I bought it. Then the brakes, then the ball joints, then the wheel barrings, then the blower. All in all I have spent 2,000 on this car since I bought it. I am ready to sell it and get a cheap little Honda or Toyota. I drive 30 miles one wa to work and the gas mileage at HWY speeds isn't great. Extremely disappointed with that. Gets 18 in the city and at best 23 on the highway. If you go domestic, get a used Century or LeSabre

I bought a 2003 Ford Taurus SES in May 2004. It only had 16,000 miles on it. It has been a great car and very reliable. Never needed anything other then one set of brakes and oil changes and I now have 80,000 miles on it. I never got the great gas mileage a lot of others I know did but still reliable. It's got the v-6.

My Taurus SE has easy turning ability, and the 3.OL.2V 6 CYL engine is very powerful even for interstate driving and climbing up steep hills. It starts quickly and has "get up and go" after 30,000 miles, and looks shiny good.

Bought my Taurus used one year old for $11K. It had 20K miles on it, 32 months later it has 96K miles. The only non-scheduled maintenance work done on the car was two TSB’s when I got the car one for rainhat extension and one for a noisy serpentine belt tensioner, both done under warranty. I find the seats the most comfortable of any car I’ve owned. The car does everything well, nothing fancy just a good honest car. The base engine could use a bit more power when car is fully loaded but is willing and happy. Car is great in the snow. With three kids in college I’ve traveled in all kinds of weather from Vermont to Minnesota and always felt safe and in control, great value for the price.

Bought our 03 SES used at 1 year old and 12,500 miles, wife wanted it. It's OK for basic transportation, does nothing exceptional, but does everything OK. I have never been a fan of Taurus seats and I think they're uncomfortable. The interior layout is good, but the fit & finish of interior materials is average, at best. Mechanically, the only complaint is the HVAC blower motor went. Problem was a Ford design flaw that allowed water to run down into the motor. I called Ford, awful customer service rep. and despite Ford publishing a Tech Bulletin on this problem (TSB 04-15-3) and selling a "rainhat extension" for $20, they would not fix the problem as the car was 3 months past warranty.

I wanted to buy a used car with about 40,000 miles. I looked at the Accord and the Camry. I couldn't find either for under $15,000. I found a great looking 2003 Ford Taurus for $8,500. I love the car. It drives great, looks good and I have an extra $6,500 in my wallet. Check out Consumer Reports on the 2003 Taurus as well. I wanted a reliable car and while I've only owned it two months, I have NO regrets. This is one great value.

Had only 14,700 miles in the summer of 2006 when I bought this car. This car is built very well. It is loaded with all the same amenities of a $40,000 car. It rides very nice, and I am extremely pleased that I have it.

This car gets great gas mileage, especially as a person on the interstate a couple times a week. Interior colors and design are very pleasant, but the seats are terribly uncomfortable! I have bought this Taurus 2 months ago and i just love it - ride quality, handling is just great. I have driven lot of other cars including Chevy Malibu and Cavalier, but this is the most comfortable ride. I just love long drives in it. A great car except it requires about 50 seconds from a cold start before use. During this time the lifters or tappits do not receive oil, make extremely disconcerting noises, and are very irritating expecially when the dealership says there is nothing wrong. Well, there is! This car will be sold before the next one is purchased. A Taurus-probably not!

I have put over 100,000 miles on the Taurus in 2 years. The engine is strong and will last of another couple of 100,000 miles like the last one. Obviously mostly highway miles. Gas, oil and tires is all it needs. I feel safe in this heavier Ford. It doesn't get blown around on the highway like some small cars. There is only one vehicle behind the Taurus sedan on the list of least likely to be stolen and that is the Taurus wagon.

Base V-6 engine is very under powered. 4 speed auto transmission shifts rough. Vehicle has less than a pleasant ride, very rough in fact. Interior quality is good. Exterior design is sporty, even for a 4 door. Looks and interior build do not make up for this vehicles mechanical shortcomings and choppy ride. My Taurus now has 45,000 miles on it and I cannot wait to get rid of it. Rotors and steering system had to be replaced around 30,000 miles. I cannot believe they charge over $20,000 for one of these cars brand new. I would definitely consider this vehicle a "throw away car". I wouldn't recommend this vehicle to anyone. This will definitely be my last Ford!

We bought this car less than 90 days ago, used. We had it inspected thoroughly prior to purchase. We have had it towed 4 times since purchase, diagnosed twice, and each time the mechanic has said there is nothing wrong, and the car starts for them, we bring it home and it won't start again. The mechanic today said--after keeping the car for 2 days and trying to get it to fail-- that this model frequently will not start for no particular reason. He had one earlier this week with same problem, and sent it back to owners not knowing what was wrong. We picked it up, drove it home, and it won't start again. This is not at all a reliable car. Never again!

Bought my Taurus used 2 years ago, have had no problems or expenses other than routine maintenance. Leather seats, sunroof, 24V V6, alloy wheels, a nice looking, comfortable package. Have averaged over 28 MPG over the last 30K miles, get better than 30 on the highway. Seats could be a little more comfortable, and interior trim is kinda cheap looking, but so far I have no complaints. Doesn't hold value well since there are 60 gazillion of them on the road. Very smooth on the highway, a little more wind noise than some sedans.

Surprisingly good suspension and handling. Even better on winter Michelin X-ice tires than on original Continental Touring Contact tires. However, old but reliable OHV Vulcan engine lacks the vigor of modern OHC engines. Additionally, the transmission has been mated to the engine for economy and upshifts too eagerly, what robs the car of dynamics even further. Sufficient and well modulated brakes stop this heavy car with confidence even with drums at rear. Body fit is below average with poorly designed hinges and locks. I had to spend a few hours just to adjust all doors to my standards. Overall reliability seems to be good providing that a basic maintenance schedules are being kept.

The interior color gray is kind of boring. But my huge concern is the brake system. If I have to stop quickly and I press down on the brakes, it will stop THEN keep going after it stops! It is very scary and I feel totally unsafe. I had them checked 3 times and each time I was told that it is just the way the car is. Be very careful if you get this car! It is very roomy. The seats are not comfortable after a short ride. It is kind of sporty looking and can switch lanes quickly, which is nice.

I have put a lot of miles on this car in a short time and have had absolutely no problems.I am very impressed with the amount of quality Ford put into this car for the price they sell at. I bought my 2003 Ford Taurus SE with 28,000 miles. It now has 33,250 miles and I have already had to replace the steering rack and front rotors. Luckily Ford paid for it. Since I only paid $10,000.00 for it I think it is worth the money. It has a solid ride feel. It also has good pick up and passing abilities for the standard 155 horse V6. I really like the 6 disc cd changer audio system. For a car with rental car status I think this was a solid buy choice. Remember that rental car companies wouldn't buy cars that they would have to fix or repair often. I would recommend buying this car since it will be going out of production in 2006.

You know, this car isn't quite as bad as I had originally thought it would be. My company gave me this car 8 months ago and I handed over my '97 Honda Accord to my brother. First let me say that the Taurus drives nowhere near as well as the Accord did. It's too sluggish. When I punch the gas to try to pass someone it always hesitates. The engine revs up for a few seconds before it kicks in and goes. Also, when I have the A/C on the belt is always chirping. My fiance has a 2004 Accord EX that just blows this car away. I don't understand how Ford could ever expect to compete with a Toyota or Honda and win. We definitely drive the Accord on trips together. Goodbye Taurus.

My family has owned several Taurus's and Sable's. All but the '86 Sable were great. All were bought new, all lasted through my parents driving, and me and brother's "Hot Rodding" teenage years. My most recent one is a 2003 SES. It is a nice BASIC family car. If you want luxury buy a Lincoln LS. Have had no problems with the car, other than a couple recalls. The bucket seats and floor shifter make you think its a performance sedan, but it's NOT!. Great to get groceries and go to work in. Took it on one 500 mile trip, and immediatey realized why people with two kids get an SUV. Oh, if you buy one new, plan on driving it until the wheels fall off.

Our mint 2003 SES was a real steal at $10.1K, including tax and tags. This ex Hertz/IBM company car looks and drives new. Great choice for a family car. Roomy, solid build, rugged engine and a very smooth transmission. No rattles, squeaks or groans. Doors, hood and trunk all close with little effort. Suspension does a nice job in taking the jolt out of NYC’s best potholes. Very controlled at speed with little wind noise and little effect from cross winds. No problem passing buses and 18 wheelers.

Paid $14,000 plus $1500 premium extended warranty for 6 years or 75,000 miles. She was reliable. Love this car. I replaced factory tail lights with Altezza euro tail lights so she looks cool now. It still looks sharp on the roads; you might see many copycats around, as Hondas, Lexus and Toyotas. They are not fast enough to copy Focus and Taurus. If you are looking for Taurus, Duratec engine is a must. You will enjoy good acceleration.

I've only had this car for about 1/2-year but it has totally exceeded my expectations. I never expected to get a family car that was so comfortable, dependable and still visually appealing with a lot of features for such a small price. ($10,995 for an SES with 14,000 miles) We recently started looking at other cars in the same class for my husband but nothing has come even close to the value of the Taurus. A dealer offered us a 2003 Sebring which was a tight squeeze, not as visually nice and with less features with 14,000 miles on it for $17,000. We bust out laughing. We'd buy another Taurus instead and use the money we saved to pay off the first one!

The Taurus is lacking in head room, visability to the right of center suffers because the rear view mirror is too low. The rear suspension is very weak. The rearend squats with only mild acceleration. The rear sags when the trunk has anything in it or when adults sit in the back seat. The brakes aren't very good, we had to have the rotors turned 3 days after we bought the car because of a pulsating brake pedal. The car is nice looking and it is fun to drive partly because it has a sunroof and I like to drive with it open. The stereo is awesome (Mach audio w/cd changer).

Although I have not had this car a long time, it has surely proven itselt. My biggest surprise is its power to go up hills, and it drives throught corners like they are not even there. This is a nice car, I just wish the gas mileage was a little better.

I have not owned car long. I like most features of the car. The best is the price. Program car with 18,000 mile with only a one scratch for $9,900 before taxes. Car, tax, & title for only $10,800. Car has 3yr or 36,000 miles warranty. I like Honda's, Toy's, and Nissian's but I could buy two or maybe three Taurus's for thier price.

I have test driven everything on the market. I drove a Ford Taurus as a lark and to my surprise, loved it! Truly one of the nicest cars out there and the price was fantastic. Very solid feeling, safe, and yet the SES has zip and great feel of the road. I suggest if you are in the market for a great used car that you drive this. You'll be surpised! A very under- rated car.

I purchased a Certified Pre-Owed, at half of MSRP was and after pricing the news car it was more of a 6,000 in savings. And with the 6/75 warranty you can't go wrong. But to get this you must buy the car from a Ford dealer. This a must second Certified purchase and I'm sure it won't be my last.

Love this car! Impressed with the gas mileage and comfort of the vehicle. Runs great and feels very solid on the road. Very comforting to know of the high safety rating - hope I never have to use it! All of this and I paid 10,500. at the dealership for this one year-old car!!! Unbelievable value.

I bought this car used with 4000 miles and now it has 8000. So I haven't had it long but I have been suprisingly happy. It seems to have a very good power kick and rides rather smooth. Very roomy, especially the trunk. Handles well for a mid-priced sedan. The Taurus has much more room, features and power for the money. The items I don't like are the front end design (which has been around forever) and the Tachometer is an ancient style that is hard to read at night. And probably worst of all is that annoying seat belt warning indicator that won't stop ringing unless you have your belt on at all times when the car is moving.

Bought this car last month in the waning days before Christmas and have been more than satisfied. Leather, moonroof, 16,000 miles, and an extra 6 year powertrain warranty for $13,200? If you're smart, go to your Ford dealer and find one of the certified cars just as I did. Ignore sticker price (mine said $21,395). If you want to avoid the rental car look, opt for the floor shift, leather and moonroof and you'll be sitting pretty. These cars can be found all over and as long as you're not picky about color (grey and white only), you'll save thousands. As for the resale value, if you intend on keeping the car for 8-10 years, does it really matter?

Overall it's a good car, the price was right I only paid $16,500 for it brand new fully loaded with a sunroof. I went to Nissan, Honda and Toyota and they couldn't even offer me a deal like that. Not to mention that they didn't even offer any good rebates or military discount. So I highly recommend this car to anyone. It's a great family car. By the way I'm not some old person I'm 24 years old. I just like practical stuff out of life.

This is a decent all around car for the price. The SEL Deluxe package makes this car stand apart from the bread and butter Hertz rental car look. It's classy with wood and chrome accents... a poor mans Lincoln. I sold a 1996 Volvo 850 GLT for this because it was available on a company plan. I have no regrets, the Ford is far more reliable and packs a lot more punch under the hood. Paid $19,500 on X plan with a rebate and think it is worth every penny.

This is a great car. I bought the base model LX because I wanted a mid size no- frills car with a solid reputation and good looks. The finish while not made of expensive materials is tasteful and well laid out. The paint job is awesome! All controls are where they should be. The base engine while not a tire burner has adequate smooth power delivery. This car like every one I have owned has its quirks. When cold the clutch is grabby. The AC system puts out the occasional weird smell during Oregon’s rainy season. It would be nice to have heat to the windows without having to have the AC on. The trunk release seems a little cheap.

I FIND THIS TAURUS TO BE AN EXCELLENT AUTOMOBILE. IT'S FUN TO DRIVE, HANDLES REAL NICE AND VERY LITTLE ROAD NOISE. ONE THING I REALLY HATE IS CLEANING THE INSIDE WINDSHIELD. A VERY SMALL MIDGET WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT IMPROVEMENT. ONE PROBLEM I HAD RECENTLY WAS THE IGNITION KEY WAS INSERTED AND WOULD NOT TURN, EITHER WAY. I PUT IT IN AND PULLED IT OUT ABOUT SIX TIMES BEFORE I COULD START THE CAR. NO FURTHER PROBLEM WITH IT...THANK GOD.

Got great deal but made mistakes!!!! Ford offer a teaser rate got two k off that. But I thought I was getting a fully loaded SEL and after purchased out found out that the passenger seat was not powered and ford had eliminated the center heating and air conditioning unit for rear passengers. This is my Second Taurus and just use for work. The deal was great the buying experience bad. My mistake I didn't check the options list. Also didn't ask for the full spear tire. The car value disapears as soon as you drive it off the lot.

Had the car since April 1st (april fools day) Not the exact model I wanted. Got suckered into a black model instead of metallic blue, but at least I got leather seats and heated mirrors. Whoopee! (sarcasm) I wish that Ford would use a different tire company than Continental. They go flat if you look at them wrong! My '94 Taurus had more pick-up than this, but it also got reallly bad gas mileage. Traction control is a good idea. My Jeep slips all over the road if it's even sprinkling outside. The Taurus holds to the road really well with the TC.

Comfortable ride, good economy, complete with leather, moonroof and all the features I wanted in a new car. I looked at Toyotas, Hondas, Mazdas and to get one of these cars equipped as the Taurus is I would have payed $24,000 & up. Since I've only driven this car 2200 miles, it's too early to rate in terms of reliability but I'm impressed with its initial quality. The car was put together flawlessly in Atlanta. In my opinion, the Taurus is the most handsome- looking family vehicle on the market today.

This is my first Taurus, and overall is a decent package. Since new, it didn't idle smooth, ran rough, and surged when stopped in gear. After 400 miles Ford replaced half of the fuel system and fixed a rattle in the front inner fender. These are common issues. The first 4k or so I never got better than 20 MPG, but now I get 19 mpg city/ 24 mpg highway and average 22 mpg overall. The biggest gripe I have is with the seating. After driving long periods of time gives me back trouble. The root of the issue is the driver’s floorboard. As it comes back to the drivers seat it narrows and leaves little room.

The 2003 Taurus is a very good value for a family sedan. With generous rebates offered from Ford, the Taurus becomes extremely competitive with Camry and Accord, Taurus main competition. This 2003 model has just been purchased but my experience with past Taurus ownership has been very positive; good reliability with very few problems. The build quality is good. Controls and accessories are well designed and easy to operate. A roomy trunk for this size car. Gas mileage with the 24V six ranges from 22 mpg city driving to 29 mpg highway.

It rides like a tank. Every ridge in the road from tar to slight indentations becomes a loud bump. Inhigh speed expressway driving it is excellent until the road has cracks in it and it is very annoying going bump - bump-bump. I've had it checked and everything is as it should be. It still rides poorer than any car I've had. I traded a 1997 Escort wagon with 70000 miles for it. It has 15000 miles on it. The escort rode like a dream compared to this Taurus wagon

I drove this car for an extended weekend. It performed flawlessly. Its passing ability was very impressive for a 6 cylinder. All the creature comforts one would expect in a full size car--automatic everything. The cruise control was very accurate, never did it jump down into passing gear, even on hill climbs. Gas mileage on trip was a cool 25 miles/gallon combined. Very nice cruising car.

1. A car should have pickup or gas mileage. Ideally, it should have both. This car has neither. A Camry or Accord can accelerate faster and needs much less gas. 2. Details details. Why do you have to unfold the front seat to get to the change holder? Why can't the stereo get signal on cloudy days? 3. The car had trouble starting on a mild spring day with only 2200 miles under it's belt. That's pathetic. There was a time when Accords and Camrys were fighting to catch up to the Taurus - America's #1 selling car in the 80's. Now they're not in the same class.

The car is very, very comfortable (coming from an ex-SUV driver, this wasn't hard to find, however), handles very well, gets about 24mpg on the hwy (I speed a lot). The CD changer in the center console makes access a lot easier than in the trunk. The car is a good overall value; if you are someone who’s only interest in driving is to get you from point A to B! The engine is strong, if only the brakes and suspension were designed as well. The braking is a very weak part of this package with the suspension close behind. The steering offers virtually no feedback for road feel. It you are a driver get a Passat! If you have to buy American, such as I, then this is a good deal. I have driven American all my life, but my last car was a base 1995 Jetta with the weakest engine you can imagine! The cheap '95' Jetta right now feels more solid and is more fun to drive than this brand new car!

Much better buy than a Camry

I've only had my car for a week and this review may be a little premature but I drive one just like it at work. Thats what sparked my interest. I've got to tell you I love this car! I have had many Fords and trust them with my life. They're very safe! (Thats from experience)My 2003 Taurus SES is paked with goodies and at a fraction of the cost of its competitors...Camry, Maxima, etc. As best I can see this car has no cons. If you're shopping around definitely test drive this car.

So far my experience with this car has been more than I expected. With the 24V DOHC 200Hp engine, it leaves most other "family sedans" (with the obvious exception of the 240Hp Altima) wanting. It's comfortable and roomy with an attractive interior that puts other cars in it's class to shame. You definitly get more than you pay for with this car.

I just lost my SEL in a crash with a truck this week. All of the things they say about the safety of this vehicle are true, we had no serious injuries. I loved the car. I changed out the tires for V speed rated tires and that put the handeling at a much higher level. I haul kids a lot and the room inside is great. We have even squeezed 4 in the back a few times. I really miss my car. I have been pouring over the specs of new vehicles to see if I want to make a change. I don't see anything else that offers the combination of features, performance, of safety for anywhere near the price.

1997 Taurus Wagon was a decent form of transportation for a while. Little problems were encountered, until we hit 75,000 miles. Then like clockwork... boom- the head gasket blows, and a $2500 engine rebuild cost. On a 5 year old car which had a value of only $3750 trade in...

With a son in college and some big tuition payments to make, I decided to step down from a 2000 Lincoln LS to a Taurus SEL. The LS was wonderful and very hard to give up. To ease the pain, I got the SEL Premium configuration with all of the options (Silver exterior with Dark Charcoal leather interior). While no match for the LS, it is a great car for the money. It has good power for its class and an impressive array of creature comforts. It handles well when driven aggressively and is smooth down the turnpike. The duratec is know for taking some time to break-in. Even so, I got 27 mpg within the first 1,000 miles. Also can say enough for the Mach stereo.

This is our second Taurus we bought a 2000 brand new and after 12000 miles we had to have 8 air bag sensors replaced and the computer as well, that did not even fix the problem so we asked Ford to replace the vehicle, I applaud them because they did replace it. We got a 2002 Taurus right when they were released. We now have 15000 on this one and we are having electrical problems with it, sometimes when you start the car none of the power accessories work (radio, windows, mirrors) nothing and the moon roof will not shut some times. We are going to trade it in for a different car, and not a Ford this time.

I purchased my SEL Premium Taurus in June. It is one of my smarter choices of car purchases that I've made. I had a 97 Camry that has been very reliable but was too small for my family. The Taurus is far more spacious with a smooth quiet ride and good handling. The Duratec engine is also superb, it has been decently quiet and has proved to have good pasing power. In black with a rear spoiler I feel like the king of the road.

Love this Taurus SEL Premium

I traded in a 1997 Audi Quattro wagon for the Taurus. You might ask, why get rid of an Audi in favor of the Taurus? We owned a 1987 Taurus for 12 years and put 153k on it. We loved that car! As far as I'm concerned, the new Taurus drives better than the Audi and is more reliable. We got the 24V Duratec engine and it hauls!. We're getting better than 24 mpg in mountain driving (we live in CO). Fit and finish are beautiful.

When we were looking for a nice, roomy affordable car ....... well We Found IT! This is a great car. Having three kids and needing a lil room for them to sit and to be affordable and good looking were all important to us. This is a good car for a small family or like ours not (so) small. I am happy with my Taurus! The people at Paris Ford were excelent in there patience and were very informative. I will always own a Ford!
