Car saved my Mom's Life

Let me tell you something about this car, my parents had bought this car in April of 2003 brand-spanking-new and we had it in our family for close to 14 years, until just two days ago my mom was t-boned in a very serious accident. We had absolutely no problems with the car at all. Of course, maintenance wise - brakes, oil changes and new tires come with every car so that was its own cost. To have a car run to its highest potential, you need to take care of it. But other than that this car was perfect for road trips, camping and most importantly sailed though the high piles of snow or any kind of nasty weather that came periodically in Northern NJ in the winter. My mom loved this car more than anything and it hurt her to see it go the way the car did. A car came crashing into the driver side door, when my mom was behind the wheel and it pushed the car into a brick building, destroying it completely, my mom couldn't get out of the car cause her door was pushed in. Long story short, when I came to the scene of the accident, and I personally saw the damage...let me tell you, a person wouldn't have gotten out of any other car in one piece, let alone alive. I went to the police and responders on the scene and I shortly saw my mom, walking, talking and running around the car taking pictures, she was shaken and bruised up but honestly a-okay. She had just gotten a small cut on her finger. She was alive. The police and responders told me personally, that if it was NOT for this car and the way it took the impact and protected my mom...she wouldn't be here with us. I am absolutely thankful that this big, heavy, and much loved family car that was absolutely perfect for us and would have ran for another 10-15 years with no problem, did the job it was supposed to. We had some really great memories with this car, and this was the car I learned how to drive 5 years ago (I'm 21-going 22). You can always buy another car, but you can't buy the health and well-being of a human life. Especially the one of a mother. I and my brother need my mom. And you couldn't get a better SUV than this car was. If you have a chance, don't even think twice about buying a preowned TB. Just make sure it has a clean history and it was well loved like ours was. Thank you Chevy for making this car!!

I used my TB EXT for first 6 years (unti 2009) as a work car doing sales all over SoCal. Did have to put in a factory rebuilt transmission at 240,000 mi. Other than that, biggest repairs were fan clutch and catalytic converter. A/C is still the best of any vehicle I've owned. Too bad Chevy doesn't make this model anymore.

Run from these unless.

The transmission on these things are terrible. It has been replaced about every 3-4 years since it was purchased new. The first one was replaced by the dealership and they didn't even warranty their work. 3,000 dollars and they said they didn't replace the pump and it caused it to burn up. That was their fault for not replacing the pump when they rebuild it.

2003 Trailblazer ls 4wd is one of the best ones.

2003 Trailblazer ls 4wd is one of the best ones Chevrolet built. Heavy duty. Easy Service. A DIY will find it a pleasure to maintain. The divers seat is not as comfortable as it could have been. That is the only thing I found at a slight fault. Lots of power very cold AC Fantastic radio. City mpg between 15-15.5 with 3.42 axle. Highway mpg is 18.4 to 19. They don't make em any better than this.

Definitely a Keeper!

Just got this beauty with only 88,000 miles. Was driven rarely and garaged by an older gentleman that passed away. Didn't know the trailblazer came in the LTZ trim. Fully loaded! Two tone leather, bose stereo, maroon exterior, 17 inch aluminum rims and chrome grille insert to name a few. Have done some maintenance on it, just part of it's age, nothing drastic, thermostat, spark plugs, ball joints. My only complaints are: I can't find a good position to stay with in the drivers seat and you have to crank up the volume to get the full effect from the bose stereo.

I still love this car! We live in North Idaho and our winters can throw at us great deal of ice and snow. This car has never let me down. I use a good, siped, all season tire and it just goes. I can't say enough. The only add-ons I have done is an after market stereo and remote starter. I have had not had any mechanical issues only regular maintenance; brakes etc. I wish Chevy still made these.

Family bought the 03 EXT LT 4.2 I6 model in 2003 with 30,000 miles on it. We now have 145,000 miles on it. While this thing has very little steering feel and is slow to respond, it rides fantastic, even on fairly rough dirt roads we use to get to Grandma's house. It also tows well (5000 pound boat), though if you do tow a lot, get the V8. While the I6 is fairly powerful, you do have to rev it past 3000 to get more immediate response. Since this is the EXT model, it has more weight than the base model, so mileage is a 16/20 city/highway. It has gotten us everywhere reliability with basic maintenance. 3rd tow will take adults surprisingly well. We believe we can get another 150,000+ out of her

We had this truck for 11 years, bought it new, put over 150K miles on it. It was our most comfortable vehicle for long road trips, though fuel economy did sometimes cause us to drive the Camry. We lost this hard working truck to a head on collision with a drunk driver in a Dodge Ram and it kept my husband safe in that event (he walked away with bruises and a single broken bone in one hand). In all the time we had it we never had to do any major repairs, it still had original brakes, transmission, etc. From day one it vibrated when idling at 750rpm, never figured out why..but it was never a real problem.

Every vehicle has problems...could've done much worse.

Bought brand new mainly to tow my bass boat and to tailgate @ Colts games, and in those two regards it has not disappointed. It's never left us stranded. Even had a head on collision with a Ford Explorer 2 years ago, I'm still driving, the Ford is in a boneyard somewhere. I have had some minor issues, fan clutch as I'm sure everyone that is familiar with Trailblazers know was a very common issue. Had a few fit and finish issues the first year but were taken care of. 9 yrs and 120,000k later and she still rides(w/newer ball joints, connecting links and shocks) pulls and looks like new with no sign of letting up anytime soon.

I bought this SUV new in 2002 and 140K later, it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. Out of the gate, I had a lot of electrical issues but the warranty covered repairs. I've probably put in less than $2K in repairs and maintenance through the years and it's still running strong. I'll probably retire the beast in a few more years but I couldn't be happier with the value. It will be hard not to consider a Chevy when I move into my next truck.

My son Ryan, age 24, was cut off while driving on I-95. He lost control and spun across 5 south-bound lanes and slammed into a concrete barrier. The 03 Trailblazer was a complete total. But the built-in safety features absorbed most of the energy while the airbags and seat belts did their job. Ryan walked away with a minor neck sprain. I have nothing but high praise for Chevrolet building such safe and crash-worthy vehicle.

I own a 2003 Trailblazer. Started out great, until about a year ago when the ring and pinion gears went out. Had that replaced and now its in the shop and won't start. Thinking it has something to do with the theft deterrent system, even though I'm no thief, I'm the owner. I have put more money in this vehicle in a weeks time than what one months payment amounted up to. No wonder chevy claims to be like a rock, if you don't have them towed they seem to sit in the same spot like a rock. Will be the last I ever buy, if you don't believe me just google chevy trailblazer starting problems and see for yourself. Soon as it is up and running its getting traded for a Nissan/Toyota!

We traded in our 98 Jeep Cherokee on this as my wife's daily driver. It's a step up from the Jeep, bigger, nicer, more power. My only complaint is the gas mileage. We are getting about 11-12 in town and only about 14-15 on the highway. Luckily she only has a 1 mile commute. I may try a tune up, but it shouldn't really need one with only 60k miles.

I have an '03 ext LT with 4.2L. This has been a great Suv for me and my family. I agree the fuel economy could be better but for a '03 mid size Suv it's pretty good. Interior is excellent but I agree that the radio buttons do wear off. I love the 3rd row/cargo space. I've compared this to an explorer with the 3rd row and it can actually fit an adult unlike the explorer. I'm 6'1" and can sit back there (although I wouldn't do it for a LONG road trip). It's a comfortable and quiet ride. I would recommend it to anyone.

5.3 V8 has much power and can haul and tow most anything. The whole family fits comfortably. Fits all my work tools and ladders well. Att 88000 miles I just spent $2600 to have my transmission rebuilt though. Found out they use the 460LE trnas in their other cars and unless you upgrade some internal components it will burn out from light towing or heavily loaded. This year I have replaced a battery (again), new alternator, new water pump, brakes, tires (again), rebuilt trans. I am in it for about $4000 in repairs and it is not that old. Can't afford to replace it as I need a truck for my job. Engine is still stong and hopefully all problems worked out. Did but it used w/44,000 miles tho.

No wonder GM is hurting.

I had owned this truck now for 15 months, bought it used with 73000 miles and very disappointed, just about every little thing that could go wrong with this vehicle has gone wrong. Right down to the cheap plastic features that have cracked on the interior, to the faded plastics on the exterior. The rear light housing on both sides have leaked and are in need of replacement will not pass inspection. In the 15 months my service engine light has come on at least 20 times. On an average it has cost $300 to fix. The gas pedal malfunctioned, thermostat, O2 sensors, TPS went twice, stuck two times in NYC with reduced power. Please be advised to look elsewhere if this is the type of SUV you need.

I bought my LS right off the lot, brand new. I loved it, handled great, felt comfortable, felt expensive. At 50000 miles everything went downhill. The fan clutch went out, factory defect, known by GM. I had to replace it twice. AT 60000 miles the shifter would stick and not move, found a broken wire under the console. The fuel pump started spewing gas, after I repaired it, GM sent a letter with an offer to replace it--too late for me. Gas mileage was perfectly awful, I live on a mountain, it took a quarter tank of gas to down then up. The older the car got the worse it became.

110 K mi. Absolutely no mech.issues to date. Good road ride, front seats are very comfortable , rear seats are not comfortable, tight entry/exit. Handles well on the highway, a little whale(ish) around town. The 4,2 L 275 hp engine is quiet and smooth with more than adequate power. Gas mileage is decent: 16-18 mpg city, 20-24 mpg hwy. With 55-60 mph cruise 25+ mpg. LTZ model but a basic Chevy w/bland, cheap plastic interior appointments. Excessive wind noise around windows. OA a decent American SUV for the money, not great, but a good value so far. I have not spent a penny beyond basic maintenance, which is a pleasant departure and surprise for a GM vehicle.

I only have 17,500 miles on this vehicle. I get 11 mph in town and 16 mph highway. I have the v6 engine. Thought about trading it even though it is in mint condition and very well maintained. Decided that the difference in cost for a new vehicle would buy a lot of gas.

We bought the SUV used with only 20k, but like it only had 2 miles on it!! Have been very happy with the power and comfort, the look is strong, masculine, but don't rub against anything or you will get bupper damage and maybe even more. The exterior look is great but lends to road scrathes on doors and poor bupper strength. The rear lience plate seal leaks and rear lights are not protected enough so they get chips and leak mosture into them. The interior after only 5 years has started to fall apart, and dash board buttons have scrathed off the name of the item. Fuel mileage could be better only 13-15 mpg.

I've had my TrailBlazer since I bought it new in Aug of 2003. I love the styling and the huge cargo space (EXT version). It's been great for moving my daughters back and forth from college. Rides nice for a truck. The good news ends there. Too many things have gone wrong with it that shouldn't have gone wrong. I'm now on my 3rd instrument panel cluster assembly and now need a 4th one. These things cost over $500 to replace. Poor quality! I've had a few other things go wrong including my radio - I'm on my 3rd unit. As much as love the styling and cargo room, I'd never purchase another one especially considering the resale value is very poor. The money I saved up front is costing me now.

We bought this SUV thinking it would get decent gas mileage and be great for the family. Space is nice and it is very comfortable but the gas mileage is horrible! We get about 11mpg in town and 12-13 on the highway! I haven't even had it for 1 year and am looking to sell. If you are looking for something that even gets remotely good gas mileage don't by this car! We had everything looked at to see if there was some sort of problem that caused the bad mpg and everthing was good to go, just bad mileage!

I am a happy owner. We bought it new in late 02 and have driven 180k miles. Engine is still running strong. We have had a tranny rebuild at about 160k due to a stripped sunshell. We also had to replace the alternator at 130k and occasionally the left brakelight burns out (easy to replace and I have replaced about 8 times in life of the vehicle), all else has been regular maintenance. As long as it keeps running stong, I plan to keep it until 250k.

Good SUV. Not too big, not too small. The EXT has room for my family of 5 and our stuff. Fold down seats leave plenty of space to haul things. The 4.2L engine is great. Lots of power. Have had lots of brake problems, and what I suspect may be a transmission problem at around 60,000. The LT package is great.

Purchaced for my wife. Gas mileage for this type of vehicle is not bad, she gets about 18.5 average, high 20.5 low 16.9. The ride and power for this SUV is great. We would recommend this to others comfortable, easy to see out of. Gives one a secure feeling. We tried out many different vehicles in this class and this was best in our opinion.

Battery failed in 1st year. Buttons peeling on Premium Bose Stereo. Wind Noise is very bad. Had to install custom deflectors but still have noise. STARTING PROBLEMS**** - Multiple occurrences. Late 2005 and late 2007 - still continuing. Dealer replaced a bunch of stuff in 2005 which did not solve the problem. Finally replaced ignition switch which solved the problem. New ignition problem - not starting in late 2007. Replaced ignition switch but the problem is still occurring. VERY UNRELIABLE. Transmission shifts hard but has not failed yet.

No problems with the motor, was made by Izusu for Chevrolet, towed boats and trailers without any problems. However have experienced numerous mechanical, structural and rear lights problems, all cover by warranty (bought extended to 6 years or 60,000 miles), the dealer had to supply rental cars while it was in repairs.

Everything has went wrong with this car. It has been a huge money pit. Make sure to have an inspection done prior to purchasing. I have had problems with everything from the transmission to the fuse box.

My trailblazer has been an excellent vehicle. Great comfort and ride. Gas mileage could definitely use improvement. Had initial trouble with a faulty fuel injector but once the dealer bit the bullet and repaired on warranty I have had no other performance or reliability problems.

I bought my TrailBlazer new in Feb 2003. Overall, I have been very pleased with it. I looked at the Explorer, the Durango and Gr Cheerokee as well, but the TB's HP and styling won me over. Great for long trips, tons of storage, great in the snow (I have the locking rear). I too had problems with a leaking taillight and the trim around the license plate, but they were covered under warranty. Also had a rear window motor go last summer, but my dealer got GM to cover the part even thought the car was out of warranty. Wind noise was louder than I was used to. Mileage 15 city/22 highway. Just traded it on a new '07 Suburban - I was very sorry to get rid of it, but we simply outgrew it.

This vehicle has been used by my family for so many, many things from transporting kids around and loading all their sports equipment in the back to being able to put an entire shed building kit in the back. There is so much room in this SUV and it is super comfortable. We have taken it on trips and never one complaint. It is so versitile for so many different things. The rear air is really nice in the summer. The back opens up big so two of us can load groceries together or just sit in the back at the drive-in. I highly recommend this SUV whether you have a family or not. Endless uses and just so practical.

Excellent around town car.

This has been a wonderful vehicle to own and operate. It handles well, has adequate power and is comfortable to drive. The turning radius is out of this world, simply fantastic. During a recent relocation I used the vehicle to tow a 16 foot utility trailer on several trips of 700 miles over mountains and interstate. If you were to do this all the time I'd recommend the V-8, but for occasional use the 4200 straight six is very good. Mileage at 20 +/- on the highway and 17-18 around town. Towing really takes a toll on mileage, but that's to be expected. I would buy another one of these vehicles in a heartbeat. Great size and fun to drive. Thanks Chevy.

One of the most comfortable riding SUV's I've ridden/driven. Handles very well, but the 4WD is lacking if you're really in the thick of things. Definitely opt for the locking rear differential if you're going to test its limits. The interior is a bit drab; could definitely use some sprucing up. However, the large controls are very user-friendly. The numerous rear storage compartments are useful. Actual workmanship of the vehicle is ok, but after only 4 years of ownership, door moldings are working their way loose and rust is developing from the inside-out along the bottoms of the doors. Taillight lenses and license plate lights also let in far too much moisture.

This car was a candidate for the lemon law. I bought this car fron newand in the first year to 18 months it had trouble starting first time in cold weather, after at least 4 visits to the garage and 2 battery changes a short on the earth lead was found. It also had a problem with the seal around the licence plate disappearing down the back, again this was repaired 5 times, taking 1 hour 30 mins each visit. To top it all off at 4 years old I was told the steering gear might be going. Needless to say I decided to sell at this point. A new car that was nothing but trouble from the start, the customer service from Chevy leaves a lot to be desired.

Happy so far

Overall, a pretty good SUV. Excellent motor and transmission, trouble free after 100K miles. Had all of the axle seals, an air conditioning seal, and a faulty wire harness on the 4WD system replaced, thankfully all under warranty. Considerable wind noise from poor quality door and window seals. Gas mileage is very good for its class. Somewhat "Plain Jane" styling and interior features, which is now typical of GM vehicles. It seems like all of the innovation is with the Japanese brands. Perhaps Michael Lopez's cost cutting measures and squeezing of GM's suppliers have finally caught up with them. The 2007 model is still the same vehicle as the 2002. Why buy another one?

Good truck for the money. Very reliable straight 6 but could use a little bit more "pep". I'm thinking about installing a K&N Air Intake Kit to get those few extra horses and it will also give better gas mileage.

This vehicle is another typical poorly snapped together American tin can. My wife and I decided to be loyalto the US manufacturers, and I have not had a US made car since my Dodge Dart slant 6, which was ugly but reliable! This TrailBlazer was aptly named. Hit the trail and something under the hood will soon be ablaze, as I was told when I had an engine fire at 5,342 miles that was due to oil that spilled on the block. I disagree, since it looks like it originated from a cluster of wires that looks like a rats nest. Then my transmisssion completley failed at 19,456 miles and needed to be completley replaced. They blamed it on us saying we had driven the car hard. We use it to shop!
