I bought my Corolla in 2009 with just under 72k miles on it. I had a few issues at first but had it VERY thoroughly inspected (every nook & cranny) and found out the issue (the rear brake drums had never been turned), fixed it, and haven't had a lick of trouble since. The car currently has 117k miles on it and runs like a dream. It had it's first tune-up last summer and that improved the mpg by 4, so now it gets about 36 on the highway. I plan on driving it until it finally dies. It's economical, reliable, mechanically sound, and is just an all-around great car!

Amazing value in one little car

Bought an 02 S model about 3 years ago. Abused by original owners and left for dead. Our friend at the junkyard for it working in a jiffy. My first car, college car, put some 40k long and hard freeway miles on it (it's at 180k now), replaced transmission, struts, manifold and a wheel baring, but it has never broken down on me or failed to start. I've driven it through hot Vermont summers and freezing Maine winters. This is the car I walk out to every morning and thank the Lord for. It is a car I am truly satisfied with.

My Corolla is just reaching 244,500 miles and is still going strong. So far, the only thing I've had to replace is the normal; oil filter, air filter, tires, and brakes. I absolutely love my car and I'm glad it's lasted this long.. I know the day will come when old Rollo retires, and it will be a sad day indeed.

this is the best car ever. i got it at 80000 miles and now has over 100000 miles and no problems. am the 2nd owner. when i got it i had to learn to drive manual. so you now what a clutch goes through when someone uses it for the first time. and till this day it been the same clutch since it was made and its still good and soothe. great on gas i got around 36 city and 45 highway normal driving. no engine problems just great. if you want a car that gets great gas mileage, will drive past 300000 miles cheap and just pure reliable get this corolla but only a manual one. the autos are great but i believe they wont last as long . and the manual will get better mpg.

When receiving this car as a gift at 16 years old from my mother I had never been so excited! Ever since then I have drove the car & I am now 21, & the car will be with me until it won't run anymore. From my first accident to the second one, to forgetting to change the oil, to a deer or three, to the three original hubcaps that are left, my corolla has never ever let me down. I have ran on empty far too many times than imaginable, and have never once ran out of gas. Dependable when I definitely need her to be. She is so reliable that we have named her "Old Rolls." because no matter the situation she rolls through anything. (corny I realize.)

I believe this car helped save my life....

I just totaled this car on 12/15. The car looked terrible (with damage on 4 sides). The state trooper called it a rollover but it was more of a toss around. I impacted at least 3 different times before I stopped. The car landed on the drivers side and I still can't figure out why it did not land on the roof. I walked away sore and with a bruise on my leg. The state trooper(with 20+ years experience) was amazed that I did. This car has truly proven itself in a real world crash... car has truly proven itself in a real world crash....

The door handle was broken in two years. I put two brand new catalytic converters on it the engine light comes back on again. It can not pass the annual inspection even though it still runs good with 125,000 miles on it. It's a pain to go through the inspection every year. It should last a life time.

I wrote a review about 2 years ago at 74,000 miles. Car is still running well with 94,000 miles. No issues, only routine maintenance since purchased new. No oil burning issues as others have stated. Just replaced plugs for first time (were worn but no indication of oil or other issues). The car still seems to go through brakes and tires quickly. Always starts and runs smooth. Nothing exciting but gets me to work every day without any issues. Gas mileage 28-30 mpg in mixed driving. Interior has held up very well. Acceleration is as expected for a car with 125 HP.

I highly recommend you throw the driver side floor mat into the back seat like I did. After the little metal piece that holds the floor mat in place broke off I almost had a wreck! Stupid mat jammed under my accelerator. I almost did not get the car stopped and would have wrecked if the road had not been straight. Otherwise this has been an awesome car!

We bought a a Corolla with 120,000 miles on it and now have it up to 136,000. So far, we have only done routine maintenance, although I recommend watching the brakes closely. It burns a little oil but nothing major. Combined gas mileage is around 28 in the winter and 35 in the summer. The car's size is its best feature for living in the city: it drives well for such a tiny car and it is easy to parallel park into tiny spots. You just have to watch out because sometimes big SUVs don't see it.

I am the second owner of this particular car and it was maintained well. A/C freezing cold and burns gas well. In my opinion, if you maintain this car it will not give any issues. I change the oil every 3000 miles and do a tranny flush every 5,000, radiator flush every 3,000 miles. It runs great and if you want it a little faster change the stock air filter and exhaust, mines reaches 50 really quickly. Just maintain it it will last you until your ready for a new car.

Great Car!

I didn't have this car very long. I got in an accident and totaled it. When I crashed I was well protected. I didn't get a scratch. Its a great commuter to and from school. It always turns on even when its freezing outside. The seats are very comfortable and I only had to fill the gas tank every 2 weeks which saved me a lot of money. It did burn oil though which I really didn't like because it got expensive to keep having to replace the oil. It drives pretty well on snow and water. I liked the overall shape of the car, but the paint on the hood was peeling off. Overall, I really liked it.

Owned this car for a few years, had both Cats go change under warranty. Toyota put bad motors in these, rings that carbon up and don't seal. I was burning a quart every 200 miles when the car had 50,000, dealer told me they could not confirm the complaint. I have owned 3 Toyota's now and all were cheaply put together and I had nothing but problems. I thing it is time to give the American Cars a try again, can not be any worse then this Junk Box they call the best.

This is my second Toy, and I'm glad I bought this one. The car before this was a Ford Aspire and I couldn't hand the dealer the keys fast enough!! The Toy is reliable, low maintenance, gets good gas mileage, and I know it'll last a long time because it's a Toyota. If you want a car that's not only reliable, but easy to drive, gets good gas mileage, and is cost efficient, this is your car.

The title says it. Of course I change the oil and filter every 2000 miles and do all maintenance like clock work. Manual 3rd gear with this motor is the best passing gear and merging lane combination I have ever seen in 42 years of car ownership. Need to pass someone on the highway at 50 mph? Downshift to 3rd and tromp on it. Pickup is superb, and they hear you coming.

Have owned this Corolla S for 7 years, purchased new. The car is very reliable, always starts, and runs good with 76,000 miles. Only had scheduled maintenance done so far, except for a broken vent (covered under warranty). The car eats brakes, they have always felt soft, and the rear drums never seemed to self adjust. It also eats tires, and always pulls left even after being aligned. Gas mileage is 25-30 MPG city, and gets close to the advertised 40 MPG straight highway driving. It does well with a small amount of snow 1-3 inches. Not a lot of power, especially with A/C on, and no room in the rear seat. Overall a very good, reliable commuter car. I would buy from Toyota again.

Since, I bought the car in Sept. 2001, I have had to rebuild the engine before 60,000 miles, had the brakes done twice, window motor replaced, catalytic converter replaced. I had the engine rebuilt due to burning oil, now about 50,000 plus miles later it is burning oil again. Door lock on passenger only works manually. While, it cranks up every time, I have never had a Toyota that has cause me such trouble or cost me so much while owning it.

At 50,000 miles, my car started burning oil. Toyota refused to fix it, and blamed me. Then, they demanded to see all of my oil change receipts. First, I change my own oil, so the receipt only shows "Automotive". Second, the warranty states that Toyota does not require oil change receipts. Anyways, I still have the car, and in 80,000 miles, I have replaced the engine bearings ($1500), the front right axle bearing ($1400), the AC compressor ($900), and the front left wheel bearing ($500 including alignment).

I purchased the car from the dealership as a certifed used car. Since then only had minimal problems with it. You know stuff like headlamps turning foggy and the Toyota logo on the steering wheel peeling off. Overall this car has been great. The car seemed to stop getting great gas mileage once it hit 100 thousand miles, and the suspension seemed to not handle so well too. But it got to 100 thousand miles before I even noticed anything lagging. Now it has 131 thousand, and I just replaced the spark plugs, the PVC valve, the O2 sensor, the belt, and the front springs and struts. In short it runs like it was new again.

I purchased this vehicle one year used with 30,000 miles on it. At first, I enjoyed the vehicle but after the brakes went out, the transmission went out at 70,000 miles, and the interior began to peel away, I decided that the vehicle did not meet my expectations. Despite following all suggested maintenance, the vehicle continued to have serious mechanical failures. The day that the brakes went out frightened me pretty badly. Based on my experience, I don't plan on owning another Corolla.

I bought my Corolla in November of 2001 and always maintained very well. Changed the oil & filter at least twice a year, changed the plugs every 2nd year, get the antifreeze flush every 2nd or 3rd year if you lived up North like I do, and so on. Very content for my first new car and OMG, it's good on gas, appx. 45 miles/km.

I purchased a pre-owned 2002 Corolla when my 1994 Tercel final gave up the ghost. This is perhaps the ultimate commuter car - reliable, steady, easy to drive, fuel efficient, and unnoticed by speed traps. The five-speed instead of automatic transmission makes a big difference in traffic and bad weather. BTW - I'm 5'6" and find the cabin very comfortable!

This was my second Corolla and I was quite disappointed with this. My 1988 was great, had it for 243,000 miles, very few problems apart from just taking care of an older car. This one was a different story. First, made a mistake by getting the CE, things like the backseat not folding down made this a car that was of little use for things like biking, hauling, etc. But mostly, around mileage 30,000 the car has been burning oil quickly, requiring 2-3 qts of oil to be put in on any long road trip, sometimes more than once. Now, the engine has sludge in it that is not covered by the extended warranty, making this car a lemon while still under warranty. Disappointed in the car and company.

The Corolla is essentially a commuter's car for one or two passengers. Commuters want reliability, economy and a comfortable ride. The Corolla delivers in spades. Looks and rear seat knee room are not as important to us commuters. The only weakness is roominess for drivers who are taller that 5'10". Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a Corolla. The ride and handling dramatically improved when I installed Yokohama TRZ tires.

What I love about my Corolla: Great gas mileage; cheap car payment; minimal repairs; she always starts; Toyota service has been mostly great What I don't love about my Corolla: She's hopeless going up hills on the highway; merging on the highway can be scary b/c her pickup is slow; I've had problems turning the key in the ignition (just turn harder); my check engine light came on after a couple years (carbon filter replaced under warrantee); not enough leg room in the backseat (I am 5'11'')

After almost 4 years this has been a very reliable car, 48,000 miles so far. It is under powered, but I knew that when it was purchased. I have done nothing but change the oil every 3000 miles, engine wise. The brakes needed replaced at 20,000 miles, and are not that good. They have always felt soft. It does o.k in the snow, with just a couple inches. highway mileage 40 mpg, but city is lower than rated, I get around 27 MPG. Also it ate the factory set of tires pretty fast. The replacements are not doing bad though. It is nothing fancy but a good commuter car.

Reliability is the name of the game for me my Toyo is tops! When I turn that key I want the car to start, and it always does. My 2002 Corolla is very comfortable(I'm 5'10 and about 285 lbs.) and I enjoy driving it. I have 65000 miles on my 2002 and have only had regular oil changes and scheduled maintenance. This car is very affordable to maintain. I just bought my stepson a 2005 Corolla who is in college and he loves his as well. American cars have along way to go in comparable quality.

This is an okay car that gets good gas mileage. It started burning oil at around 85,000 miles, and is now going through a quart every 1,000 miles - not what I'd expect from a Toyota. It handles okay, but not as well as my '99 Ford Contour, and is really underpowered. Does not do well in snow, but it does start up reliably, even in subzero temps.

This corolla S is not the most exciting, but compared to my other cars (audi/bmw) is built superior. In 33K, it has required ZERO maintenance costs. Just oil changes and it gets 30mpg mix driving. The S version is much nicer and the interior is pretty good. Handling is only ok. Resale value is very high. Great student car.

Another typically efficient Corolla from Toyota - with the glaring exception of the 3-speed autobox. It's good for shuttling around town, but venture out onto your local Interstate and the car gets way too noisy and thirsty. A compact car such as this should average far better than 25mpg. So go for the 4-speed auto every time. You'll save yourself a lot of fuel and possibly your sanity too.

Owned the LE three years now, and just change oil and add gas occasionally! My roads are secondary, usually, so I can normally get 40 to 44 MPG (55 MPH). I researched before buying, and know I made the right choice. The ONLY complaint is that the car needs either a six-speed, or more HP. Even a seasoned manual transmission driver (all my life) can still kill the engine at times. It just does not have a low enough first gear! I am 55 years old and this will be my last commuter, it is built that well. Just keep clean oil in it, and pay attention to coolant change-outs. You will not be disappointed.

I got this car to travel weekly between my home near New Orleans and my new job in Texas, 326 miles each way on the weekends. Am getting 39 miles at 70 mpg on highway, no problems at all. I am very tall and need seat to go back farther, other than that am fully satisfied. My last four vehicles have been Toyotas, super dependable, never in shop.

Amazing little car it gets 39 MPG with 5 speed manual transmission. Excellent commuter. I paid $11,800 for this jewel brand new and it has been a very reliable automobile. It's going on 60K miles and no problem. It has Air Conditioning but no power windows.

Reasonably comfortable, utilitarian vehicle. However, the fuel efficiency has not been impressive. I will probably purchase an American car next, because: 1. Their engineering and design teams are making substantial progress toward reestablishing themselves as innovators. 2. The aggressive discounting by the American automobile companies has made their cars an unmatched value. Can you tell that I regret the purchase and wish I'd bought a far- superior -- and cheaper -- American car, instead?

I bought this car as a commuter and was glad when the only one left on the lot was the S model. This is my first Toyota and I will definitely buy another one in the future. I highly recommend the S model for the sportier feel and added amenities. This is a daily driver that I put 100 miles per day on.

I'll spare you the details and just use phrases: 1) Zippy and fun; 2) lightweight car so the pick-up more than compensates for the 4-cylinder engine; 3) Great turning radius; 4) Dependable in rough weather (this including ridulous blizzards in mountainous Pennsylvania); 5) two words: FUEL EFFICIENCY; 6) nice sound system- definitely underestimated; 7) (as silly as this sounds) interior is easy to clean and keep clean; 8) wonderful car :)

I require three things out of a car-- 100% reliability, ice cold A/C, and a decent cup-holder. The Corolla turns out to be a bit cheaper than the Altima for basically the same features, so there you go. My Corolla LE is a class act, comfy, quiet, peppy, and I thought I was miscalculating when I consistently got between 32-38 mpg, during the Dallas summer WITH THE A/C ON! I wasn't miscalculating--this car gets better mileage than my friend's gas-electric hybrid (28-32 mpg)! I did have to do a brake job at 22,000 miles. But I've forgiven and forgotten--one mechanical problem in 3 Toyotas isn't a bad record.

I took a step down from a Camry to a Corolla because I wanted a more fuel efficient car. Unfortunately, I get about the same gas mileage as my Camry (23-24 mpg) - others who have Corollas have said the same. I like the car, but I'll go back to a Camry next time.

My gripes with my 2002 Toyota Corolla is the seats, road noise and the cup holders. Seats: on long trips my back gets to hurting. Noise: I previously owned a Honda Accord and the quiet interior is something I miss. Freeway driving with the Corolla is quite noisy. The cup holders sit right in front of the stereo. If you have 16 oz. bottle of soda, you have to nudge it aside to adjust the stereo. I think they fixed this on the 2003 Corolla. Otherwise, this is a great little car. It's peppy, gets 35-40 MPG, and hasn't had any mechanical problems.

My LIFE is driving. I annually put around 40,000 miles on vehicles, and as an avid older Porsche collector, I demand satisfaction. My Integra with 376,850 actual miles (original VERY tired engine) finally croaked. Found the "S", liked it, and got the 0% financing. I am in LOVE with this car- the "squishy/squealy tires" and soft suspension are exactly what I need for my job. Indeed, I am 5'10 and 135 lbs, so the seat-comfort complaints might be valid for larger drivers. What I love is how quiet it is, the impeccable build quality, the ample power and the incredible gas mileage (39.6 avg). Turn the key and drive it for 10 years. I trust it.

The Corolla is not a performance car obviously, but for the money you get a car with great build quility and high reliabilty. Compared to the cars in its price bracket it has the best ride, and quality, and inside the wind noise is none existent unlike many cars in its price range. Performance sucks but what do you expect if this car had more HP this car would be a 10 out of 10.

Highly recommended for a nice econo car. Pay a little extra for the nice S features, and you look good doing it!

so this is the first Toyota I've owned. The primary thing that attracted me to this car was the price. On average, Hondas sell for about 2-$3,000 more than a Toyota, and basically the quality and reliability are the same. I believe that I got more options for my money than I would have for a Honda Civic. If money is a concern, then buy a Toyota. Breaking is excellent and responsive. If I had the ABS option, it would be perfect. Cornering is also responsive; better than I expected from a small car. While this is not the 89' Acura Legend I once owned, this is a wonderful compact, economical car! I am confident in my purchase.

I'm a committed Toyota owner and this is my second Corolla. The first I had for over 10 years. The 2002 Corolla S is sporty, attracted and nicely appointed. I have it in a 5-speed with makes it a blast to drive. It is Toyota through and through when it comes to dependability, low maintence and affordability.

Over all this vehicle's mech. are very good. It seems to be a quiet car. I am dissatisfied with the interior. I have had all 4 door panels replaced. Due to them being warped. I did not expect this from Toyota. I tried to get the vehicle replaced and was turned down. The blinkers were also broke when I bought the car brand new. I feel that Toyota does not stand behind its work. I am willing to try another one but I will be very careful when choosing my car. This car is not that comfortable if you have to ride in it for a long time. Great for around town.

Very reliable, very good in gas mileage, very small gas tank capacity. You have to fill the gas tank just a little over 200 miles drive. I can drive my Camry to over 400 miles before fill-up. Engine performance is very weak. This car is not for racing, it's for daily commute.

In the five months that I have had this car, I have finally put away the Advil. My previous car was a 2001 Ford Focus-what a hoot! I have NEVER had to visit the service center once, outside of routine maintainance. With my Ford, I set up camp at least once a month at the local dealer. Good thing they were very helpful. I plan to keep this car for a long time. I know it will last, unlike that "other" car I used to own...

Since this is my first new car, I spend a lot of time checking out different types of cars for the best value. I was torn between the Corolla LE and the Hyundai Elantra. Both cars had the features I was looking for but the Corolla drove much smoother. The Corolla did not have the cheap looking interior like the Elantra and it has better gas mileage per gallon too. I love my Corolla and would suggest it to anyone looking for a new car.
