I bought the car from someone at 114k miles in 2013, now 2016 I have 258k. I've not had any major issues with the car, the most is getting a new radiator about a year and a half ago. It's currently burning oil, but it's a 2002 and I drive a lot.

I purchased this car new in 2002 basically as a commuter vehicle as I was driving 100 each day, 6 days a week in Florida. A lot of highway driving. This vehicle has been nothing but reliable. It has 220,00 miles on it and going strong. I have only maintained oil changes, brakes, batteries, and tires. Otherwise, NO problems. Its not a looker but its the most comfortable, dependable ride Ive ever had. I am giving this car to a family member , whom I know will take care of it as I was gifted a Merc Sable................with only 30,000 miles on it. Big decision. Still gets 29/30 mpg on the highway !!!!!!!

After 225,000 miles, it still runs like new. No noise, leaks, or oil burning. I've only had to replace tires, battery, and timing belt (recommended every 90,000 miles). The seats are still very comfortable. There have been no other repairs.

Great commuter, but not much else. Surprised and disappointed at the blue book value of the car. Lower resale value than our older civic with manual Windows.

First Owner Japan Built, I have owned this Camry since new, people talk about headbolts problems and lot of negative comments..well, my car has been different, My Camry has been the most reliable of my cars, I owed a Benz S430, a suburban, a Honda accord, and this the only car that never has given me any major issues..the most I've done to it was the starter, main serpentine belt, cleaned the MAF sensor and Brakes..and an oil change every 3k and fuel additive every oil change works..at this mileage I do have to use an Oil additive, I notice some smog in the mornings..but using thicker oil has fixed the issue..I recommend this car with manual Transmission since is the one I drive..I don't know about automatic Tanny experiences..

If you locate a 2002 2.4 liter SE with more than 170k miles on it.., that has a condensation visual appearance exhaust, BUY IT! You won't go wrong. These motors are pretty much bullet proof, besides the normal replacement of worn engine parts, batteries, tires and struts. The owner of my Camry always kept 'Amsoil' in every sump the car had..., including the coolant. I truly appreciate this, for this is why I made the purchase. The previous owner obviously knew the importance of quality lubes (synthetic) and other chemicals. I took a leak down test of the vehicle, before I actually purchased it, and without going through the technical part of things, both the compression rings and cylinder walls revealed that of practically a new car. I expect to get 500k miles out of this little transverse inline 2.4 liter work horse. The car as a whole, endured the punishing heat of Central Florida since 2002, when it was purchased new. The paint in nothing to write home about.., but that engine is build correctly. I'm a diesel guy! I own a 7.3 liter Ford Excursion with 236k miles on it. Hardly broken in.., for a diesel that is. I put the 2002 Toyota Camry longevity and reliability on the same platform as my Navistar 7.3 liter diesel. It just that darn dependable!!!! In conclusion, I will keep it on a steady diet of 'Amsoil 3000 Series HD Diesel motor oil.' The drain interval for me is 25k, so all you have to do is change the oil filter every 7k miles, religiously. This is a sound practice that I've used for more than 15 years, but with the 3000 Series Diesel synthetic oil only. I also own a 1986 Dodge 318ci pick-up with 617K miles on it, using the 3000 series Diesel only. If you come across a 2000-2006 Toyota Camry 2.4 liter..., BUY IT. It'll be the best investment you'll ever make. Darren T. Jackson (Chicago, IL)

Got my 02 camry 2.4L on Aug 2013 from a bay area dealer, it did have 36K miles on it. I barely used it, it was my backup/weekend car and for 2 yrs I have the car, I've only put in 18K on it. I had the water pump replaced on Feb 2015 by a Toyota tech that does outside job and I did replace the serpentine belt on Dec 2014. Decide to use this car to work one day and noticed my temperature gauge start hitting hot, park my car to safe area and check my coolant reservoir, it was empty. I remember checking it 2 days ago, it was full. As I remove my radiator cap, there was no coolant in the radiator, put water in it since I did not have any coolant with me and decide to take it to one of the mechanic I go to, it was close by to the area where I was at. I did check my oil and it was still fine, did not see any water oil mixture. As I've mention the issue to the mechanic, he already knew the problem with this models. Strip head bolt and coolant is going through it or either leak back, recommended engine replacement. Took my car home and used my daily driver car, 92 camry with 279K (original engine). Same day, I've contact the Toyota tech mechanic, he had mentioned to me that this has been an issue with this car's but usually it's about 130K. I was aware of this issue a yr after I bought the car, google engine performance, I was hoping it would last me up to 130K. I would stay away from 2.4L Toyota engine from 2002-2010, bad engine engineering, either a strip head bold or piston ring issues, coming from the Toyota tech mechanic. I will have to replace my motor since I don't want another car payment, hoping it will last me at least 4-5 yrs just to get my money back. It will cost me about 4K with the Toyota tech doing the work. 1/2016: I end up having a rebuilt motor put inn, cost me about $2300 for the rebuilt motor and luckily the mechanic charge me only $450 for installation. Had my clutch replace. I have put in about 10K on rebuilt motor, no issue at this time. Hoping to have this car for awhile and have no other engine issue.

Bought Camry 2002 in 2009 with 229.000 km on odometer. Now it has 357.000!! One ignition coil was replaced and starter (it costs me $300 together). I cannot believe... Moreover, car still running perfect. Sometimes I thinking about something more fresh... but not sure Toyota follows their good traditions. My car was made in Japan.

I bought my 2002 Camry LE at 52k and now have 129k with no issues and I don't really expect any. We are a Toyota family having had 5 Corollas, 2 Camrys and a recently purchased 1998 Lexus ES 300 with 120k miles. If taken care of with regular maintenance these cars will last well beyond 200k miles. My next car will most likely be a 10 yr old Camry or Lexus. Can't go wrong IMO.

I received this car as a hand-me-down from my aunt in 2009 with 66K miles. In the three years in my possession, it is the most reliable car I've ever owned. In those three years, it has not needed anything for inspection, which makes me happy. Now at 104K miles, there are two MINOR problems that I discovered, such as a 'moaning' steering wheel and a recent minor fuel leak. Overall it is a very trustworthy and stubborn car. I definitely recommend this car to anyone.

The first owner was my dads friend. with no care for his car. barely any oil changes or checkups gave it to us at 140,xxx. Had one accident already. and went through 3 more. 1 from the back, 1 in the front. got it fixed and kept on going the car died 4 months ago at 189,xxx but dont think yours will too since the car was in the last accident which caused it. so after we got it from him. we kept it in top condition and i know for a fact we could have pushed it to over 250k. so my opinion? its one tough s.o.b. i honestly recommend it.

Brought the car new in Jan 2002. Initially a few bugs as the first year model. It had a dash noise which the helpful dealer fixed under warranty in their second try. Fuel filter changed under warrant at 5000 miles. Those are the only things wrong and the car is at 140,000 miles today. Very dependable and comfortable car which I drove everywhere with my family in it. Only regular maintenance and mobile 1 full sync oil with 10,000 OCI. Recently I cleaned the Throttle Body and idles like new again. Will keep it until wheels fall off, but it seems I will wait a long time for new cars as this one is strong.

LOVE THIS CAR!

I bought this car in 2007 with 80,000 miles on it. I never had to do anything but routine maintenance (tires twice and headlamps once) even though I didn't change the oil as often as I should (about every 6,000 miles rather than 3,000 miles). The car was totaled a few weeks ago with 150,000 miles on it and I couldn't be sadder to see it go! I have no doubts that it would have lasted me well through 300k. The v6 engine was plenty of power and it handled perfectly with about 27 mpg (mixed driving). Only complaint I have is that the interior was a big boring--I was constantly wishing that I had a sunroof and slightly "younger" styling. If I could buy it again, I would!

Bought used in 2004 with 45K. The vehicle has 160K and running great. The only repair was the tranny at 98K but covered under 100K warranty, that was close, repair would have been $4,000 at dealer. The cat converter went out at 110K, warranty expired. That was 2 years ago, no problem since. Brakes have been replaced. Good comfortable vehicle. Everyone that drives my vehicle always comment on how smooth it drives.

We bought this car new & expected to drive it 20 years. At about 100,000 miles valve guides are leaking oil and the estimate is $2,714.00 to fix it. Also front brakes are not that good for weight of car. We are considering selling it. We are really not happy with Toyota. They would not provide any compensation for an engine that should have had no major problems until at least 300,000 miles.

Couldn't be more boring, at a stop light you could be surrounded by 3 more of the same color as yours. But who cares. Its the best car I have ever owned. Drove it for over 7 years and it never failed me once. Went through brakes frequently and OEM tires failed at 25k. Stereo was great. Everything always worked all the time. Never had a single repair only maintenance. It had 111k, miles when I sold it for 7k in 09. Wanted a Sienna. It was fine but I should have held onto the Camry. Got great gas mileage. 28 in the city. Its nice that it doesn't have a timing belt, only a chain so no need for that service. Will be hunting for one with side airbags next time.

I have been driving my Camry for 6 years. Very few issues until i hit 90k miles. My check engine light was on due to engine issue. Dealership said no big deal EVAP system not an issue. I had the whole engine drained and cleaned. 50 miles later, BING, light on. I took it to an independent service provider and they told me something is not right. Then at 130k miles, the engine pistons shoot through the casing into the combustion chamber. That could have easily started an oil fire that would have sparked into the gas chamber. The mechanic said Toyota has a serious engine design problem. Google Toyota engine issues, it is not an isolated issue. Toyota is waiting for another blow.

I have an early production 2002 Camry. It is a great car, and exhibits the traditional reliability you expect from Toyota. This was the first year for this particular body style/chassis and the 2.4 VVIT engine. There were some minor early production mechanical problems experienced with the car including: manifold issues, belt tensioner issues, and leaking valve stem seals. These all occurred between 75,000 and 90,000 miles. I have since put another 80,000 (170,000) on the car and have had very few issues. Yes the car is boring and is has a soft suspension, but you will be hard pressed to find a car put together as well as this one. The driver-side leather seat is beginning to crack and t

"Salsa Red Pearl" 2002 Camry LE, 2.4L, first year that it came with a timing chain, not a timing belt) and automatic transmission. I'm 6'1'' and fit comfortably. In daily commute driving, I average 28.5 mpg combined hwy/city on 87 octane gas (Melbourne, FL), and recently got 36 mpg Hwy between Warner Robbins GA and Melbourne FL (I strictly observe the 70 MPH speed limit). Some Camry years are known for leaking valve guide seals at about 70K miles - this one is no exception. Valvoline's high mileage oil has virtually eliminated this after about 4,000 miles use though. Lastly, this is one of the easiest cars to drive that I have ever driven - steering & pedals require very little effort.

It's my 2nd Toyota car after a long line of GM failure cars that I purchased. GM Take note, this is how you get customers, if you build a reliable vehicle, they will come. If you're looking for a fun car to drive you will not get it with this car. It has no bells and whistles. You get 100% reliability and that is it.

I bought this car on sale when the 2003 models came out. Repairs have been slighlty more than I expected but I think it is because the dealer has pumped up service sales. With 100,000 miles the car still handles very well and is very quiet. Brakes seem to wear out more quickly than my last Camry and the AC has broken down twice with leaks but otherwise a great car.

I bought this vehicle brand new in 2002. It has been the best car. It currently has ~130,000 miles and I have had no major issues. We kept up on routine maintenance, replaced tires, and brakes and that's about it. It is so reliable, even in the snow. I've never seen a FWD vehicle do so good in bad weather. I feel like we have been extremely blessed to have such a good car. The radio in the SE is awesome and we have tons of room even with 3 kids, plus it looks great. My 10 year old tells me frequently how much she really likes my car...it will probably last 6 more yrs. so she can drive it! Hope she still likes it as well then!

I have owned this car for 6 years. I bought it with 24k miles. The only problems I have had are the transmission started to slip some and cause hesitation. I had the tranny flushed and this solved the problem. The paint is now peeling on the drivers front and rear quarter panel but I do not have a garage and it has gone through several storms. Overall a great car with no problems at 107K miles to date. I bought this car certified and I recommend that very highly.

Let's face it, the Camry is not a Ferrari. It's a reliable, functional sedan. I bought this car with 118k miles, now passing 122K and overall I'm happy. I can fit a 9 foot long board in the back with the seats down, and tote my 3 dogs around in it everywhere. It's pretty vanilla, I definitely don't turn any heads driving it, but 5 people can fit in there comfortably. I currently have a catalytic systems issue which has a check engine light on, and causes the car to lose some power. Otherwise it's very reliable.

I had to replace the scissor jack since the one this used car came with looked bent too badly to trust (~$15 on ebay). So far, I average 28.5 mpg combined hwy/city on 87 octane gas (Melbourne, FL). About once a week gave the "blue smoke" for an instant out the tailpipe on startup last winter/spring, but I haven't noticed it this summer at all.

I put up 245000 miles on my previous 1987 Toyota Camry. I did not have any problems, except for regular wear and tear. On my 2002 model, at 119000 miles, It has developed transmission problem. It takes long time to change to higher gear and jerks. If you accelerate, it makes noise and slips. Speedo meter does not work. It stays most of the time at zero and suddenly shows the speed and goes back to zero. I changed sensor, but no use. It needs all the engine mounts to be changed.

Before this I owned a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Unfortunately I was involved in an accident and had to sell it, I bought this car and I love it so far. I bought it with 99,000 miles on it. Its just about to turn over 104,000 and I love everything about it. It drives like its a brand new car. The only problem with it is there is an exhaust leak somewhere. Its fun to drive and reliable. I plan to drive it through my college career and possibly get a Tundra after that. Great car!!!

This Toyota has given me the most problems of any Toyota I've ever owned. I've owned more than six Toyota products, including a Lexus ES300. The car has 112000 miles and I've had to replace the catalytic converter, two engine mounts, and now the transmission may have to be replaced because the gears are rotten. That's only the most recent issues that come to mind. Other Toyotas have had more than 220000 miles with only normal maintenance costs. What happened?

When I first bought the car I wasn't too pleased with the styling. I wanted something sportier and faster but this was in my price range. Once I started driving it I fell in love with the car, it has quick get up with the vvti engine while also getting 30+ gas millage, everyone else who started driving my car really started liking it to. It was very reliable except near the end before I got in a car wreck my transmission was starting to skip a lot around 120k thousand miles, people look at me crazy when I say that about the Camry but looks like there's been more than just me with this problem so be careful with that I guess with this year. Other than that great car.

It is one of the best cars we have ever owned. LOVE the V6 interior very roomy. Like the seat control on drivers side. It allows my husband (who is 6 foot 5) fit in the car.

All and all, this is an excellent car. I get between 27 and 32 mpg with mine, it has a smooth ride, good pickup, great sound system and is extremely reliable. I already have over 150K on it and literally only put about $150 per year into repairs. This has got to be one of the best vehicles I have ever had. Very economical, attractive and comfortable. Love it!

Great car, I have over 256,000 miles on it and have had only one major problem to date, with a sensor. I now have a problem passing my states emissions bull, but other than that, its great. Sure, it's not a burner with the 4 cylinder engine, but I'm not expecting that. I'm most concerned about staying out of the garage, and I have. I put 40+ per year on a car, and I would greatly recommend this one.

I purchased this car used at the time it had around 60,000 miles. The reason for this purchase is because the great talk about them, I found out different. At about 85,000 miles the dealer put in a new transmission, because I was having slipping problems. Round 95,000 the dealer put a new lower end in my motor. The check engine light comes on and off at random, the suspension is rough, gets around terrible in any wet (rain, snow) conditions, it has terrible fuel economy (hwy miles) I am lucky to get anything over 25 miles to the gallon. All I can say is thank goodness the transmission and engine were covered since it was a Toyota Certified purchase.

When my Corolla was starting to get too small for me, I decided to get something larger. I purchased and extended warrantee, and have yet to use it. This vehicle made it through two years if freezing Toledo, Ohio without a single problem. I just turned 54,500 miles, and the car drives like new. This will most certainly be my last vehicle. With this low mileage, the car will outlast me.

Bought this car new in 2002. Has about 103000 miles now. Worst car I have ever owned. Had to have rotors replaced under warranty because of warping and have had them turned several times also. Have already gone through three batteries in less than seven years. The car recently started to run rough at around 40 mph. Dealers initial diagnosis was there is no code so no problem. Second visit for same problem and the diagnosis was a bent right front axle. On the third visit for the same problem the diagnosis is now the transmission O/D. To top it all off the radio is junk, and when you unlock the doors with the keyfob they stay unlocked for about 15 seconds and lock back up.

We purchased this new, and after 7 years, I have had only one repair, other than routine maintenance. The breaks needed to be replaced after 85,000. The car is extremely quiet, which I really like. It now has 93000 miles, and I expect to have it another 7 years!

Runs good most of the time (hard to start in the winter). Powerful and smooth engine. Gets around 30 mpg. Smooth, quiet ride with roomy and comfortable interior. Now the bad... Interior is very cheap; it's just about falling apart. Engine does not want to start in cold weather. Car is too low. It bottoms out on everything! Hard to get parts for. Toyota charges an arm and a leg for the parts they do have. No ABS with brakes that tend to lock up all the time. Transmission likes to downshift when slowing down on a downhill. If it does that in the rain or snow your tires will lose traction! I've had too many close calls with lost traction in this car.

I always thought the 02 Camrys were ugly as sin, but I don't care about that when I buy cars anyway. In every other way this car is absolutely superb. I'm at 112k miles with no significant problems. Only major expense so far was timing belt swap but that was a maintenance item not a repair. With the 4 cylinder engine the pickup is acceptable and the mileage is extremely good considering it is a pretty decent sized car. I'm going to go to about 200k on this one and then buy another new Camry - I suppose I'm due around 2011 or so. Engine light just went on last week and the code says its the catalytic - that will be a little expensive but can't complain at this mileage.

Have owned this car since 03. Bought it as an off lease car w/24K miles. Now has 72K miles and have never been to the shop. I maintain the car myself and find it very easy to service. We drive the car normally and get 28-30 MPG city and have seen almost 40 MPG with the cruise set to 70-75 mph. Not very inspiring to drive, but what a great car for the everyday commute and plenty of room. Paint is starting to peel on rear quarter pannel, but it's now 6 years old and stays outside. Installed aftermarket 17" rims w/performance tires and instantly felt like a different auto!! Overall I am a Toyota customer for good.

The car has been good until last year (2007) when I had to rebuild the transmission. Don't like the fact you can see the muffler hanging down - looks like its falling. Now springs and then struts went. Don't think I will be buying another Toyota. Should be able to get more than 6 years out of a transmission!

I bought it used with 38000 miles. Engine light came on a few months after purchase. I ignored it. At 86000 miles I had the 02 sensor and catalytic converter fixed. Paid 1200.00 to get car fixed. Was not a happy camper. Since then, no other problems. I hope to drive it for at least 250000 miles.

Bought this new in 2002 and it has been fine. Not a high performance vehicle with the 4cyl, but great road car and commuter. Have had not one single problem in 68,000 miles. Get about 32 mpg on the highway, and close to that on my commute mix. Very solid car, but not exciting to drive for me. I'm thinking Acura TSX or RL next time.
