2002 Toyota 4Runner-always the class of the field

After owning the 2002 Toyota 4Runner for over 14 years, I think that I'm qualified to give an opinion on the subject. I keep my 4Runner in tip top shape by doing all of the maintenance that is expected of the vehicle. It has been a very good vehicle for me and I get lots of complements on how it looks. It's not usual to see a female driving this vehicle, especially an older one!! Since it's older, it doesn't have the new technology on it but then again it won't break on me! I have found that tires are very important to the handling of this vehicle. I used to use Michelin tires, but found that the new Firestone Destination tires are fantastic. They let me drive in the rain and thru puddles without hydroplaning like the other tires used to and makes me feel safer on the road. These vehicles can be tippy if not driven properly and I've never felt like it's going to tip over because I don't push it like some people do. It's not a car and you can't drive it like one!!

Enjoyed my used for 2 years, would not buy another

I purchased a 2002 2wd SR5 from the original owner. Had 150k miles. The SUV was excellent utility-wise for what I use (trips, camping, sleeping, biking, kayaking, dirt roads, etc). However to say this vehicle was 'reliable' is a bit over-statement. The previous owner replaced the transmission at 5 years. I also replaced it. His list of repairs was fairly lengthy, though most of them routine type stuff. I had to do a lot of suspension work, which I guess is OK for a car this age. Could tow a few thousand pounds, but wouldn't go above that due to the power lacking. Awesome sunroof. Gas mileage was decent on the highway (~22). My main gripe with this vehicle was that it just wasn't comfortable at all. As is the problem with Tacomas and 4runners, the seats are low to the ground. That's fine if you're short, but for me I found on long trips it really wore me down. I purchased mine used for $5k, but spent $6k on it in repairs. Honestly, I felt it was a waste of money for a used middle-of-the-road vehicle. I wouldn't buy one again just based on the comfort-factor alone. Sure if you're someone that drives cars to 400,000 miles then you say 'toyota' but if you're like me and don't do high mileage but might take long trips occasionally, you are definitely going to want a vehicle that is comfortable to be in for those long hours.

I have always wanted a 4runner and I finally got one for Christmas. It drives awesome! It's so smooth and quiet. Gets up and goes taking off from a stop light unlike my old car. Roomy front seats, comfy leather seats. Just an amazing car! Highly recommend.

4runners have an excellent rep. If you buy one and don't need 4wd, what's the purpose? We drive this car on the beach and in snow. Absolutely no problem, never. == (Con't). to get out of 4wd low. I have the six cylinder and it is a good engine around town or down the road. In my opinion it lacks a little power. If you have 4 men and bags and you want to engage highway traffic you need to stomp on it. I would not trailer anything heavy unless it is very local travel. The V8 maybe be a better option you be the judge. The seat is good if you are a normal size man, for me it doesn't provide enough support in the right places for a LONG trip. The AM radio is terrible - static.

Would by another one in a heartbeat

I bought my 4Runner with 32K miles on it, it now has 165K miles on it. It has been the most reliable vehicle. I have owned. I have taken it on many road trips, and it has never failed me. Driving over pot holes and speed bumps it is a rough ride. But since that is on a rare occasion, over all I am pleased. I have leather, and after 8 years of wear and tear, it does need to be replaced. It is just now starting to show it's age, and even then it is still a good looking vehicle.

Love this SUV! Bought new. I'm still driving 8 yrs later and 120K miles. Only problem was the tail light bulb seems to go every other year which got me a ticket :( Mechanically very sound, well built, still runs like the day I purchased. I've replaced the water pump/timing belt only due to miles. I get 17-19 mpg in city and 23+ on open highway. I do agree with the others though that the ride can be a bit bumpy, slightly larger tires seems help with that a bit. Cost to own very good at 25K new in 2002, retail today in mint condition is $8-9K. Not bad at all! Debating whether to trade in only due to mileage and mpg.

I LOVE this truck! Toyota builds the best vehicles on the road and my 4Runner is no exception. It gets me where I need to go, keeps my kid safe, and does all this without asking anything in return of me except regular maintenance, and new tires! I do wish it has a few more creature comforts...softer chairs (mine are leather), and latch restraints for the car seat, but all of this is addressed on the next generation. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this truck, and I am sure my daughter (9 mo. old) will be driving this when she turns 16! It will need a new paint job by then though...

Always liked the look of this truck, so I decided to buy a used one 2 yrs ago with 48K on it. Would have got a newer one, but didn't like the newer body style as much. Been driving this for 2 years now, and it currently has 59K (don't drive much). My expectations have been easily surpassed, and I really like this truck. Its design is very well thought out. I don't think the car has a blind spot (great visibility) and the reliability is unbelievable. I just change the oil and let it do its thing. Only thing that has gone wrong with the truck is the power antenna, which seems to be a common problem. Other than this minor inconvenience, the truck has been great and I highly recommend it.

I purchased the 2002 4 Runner Sport with added leather interior, and all the bolt on exterior goodies for my high school son in new 2002. I drove it during his first year in college since he could not have a car on campus. I thought it was great; very honest vehicle. I have owned five Toyotas and this is the best for reliability. The vehicle now has 66,000 miles, never had anything wrong, not even a rattle. Just normal maintenance. The best news, he is purchasing a new car and he is giving the 4 Runner to me. I am sure he will miss it.

I bought this on Halloween because I had read all the great reviews. I'm looking forward to the reliability that everyone raves about but I do have some issues with it. The seats are extremely uncomfortable. There is a lumbar support bar that sits in the middle of my back and causes my legs to cramp. I had to pull it out during a long trip. Also, the cruise control is awkward over 70 miles an hour. If there is even the slightest hill the rpm sky rocket in order to keep the speed. Not a smooth transition. I love the automatic rear window for groceries and it's a 4WD machine. The antenna has already broken but not worried about it. Differential lock a huge plus. Great vehicle horrible seats.

My Toyota 4 runner is overall a great car. I have 61,700 miles on it and I drive it to work daily. The ride is rough on poorly maintained roads typical for a truck frame. Over speed bumps, dips or potholes will give you whiplash. If you test drive it use a parking lot with speed bumps you'll see why. Very very reliable car, replaced the power antenna 1x (costly), this car runs great, tough as an ox, and purrs like a golden lion.

I was very upset with Toyota because I found out after purchasing my '95 4Runner with the 3.0 that there was a known problem with head gaskets but they did not recall for that year. They made up for it with my 2002. Toyota gave me more than I expected for my trade (even knowing the head gaskets were about to go) and sold this one to me at low book. It's been a great truck. Rides great, fun off-road, reliable. I'm going to lift this baby up, add bigger tires, and give myself more clearance since it climbs very well over rocks and boulders. My 15 year old is waiting for me to give it to him when he turns 16. Too bad, so sad. He'll have to buy his own. I'm keeping mine.

Bought new from my local dealer in March 2002. The vehicle is the SE model and has been a real value. This was the last year Toyota built the 4Runner for American sales solely in Japan. That is a real plus! Great in the snow and fun to drive on vacation. Overall a great value and would do it over again.

Reliable beyond expectations, decent gas mileage for an SUV, comfortable ride, very utilitarian. I love the design, and wish they hadn't changed it so much in '03. I hope to own it another 6 yrs. or more!!

I have 2WD Sport Edition in Thundercloud color. Bought used w/135k. Now have 145k miles. It's been totally reliable, except for one minor 4Runner weakness - that darned power antenna! I replaced it myself for about $25. Otherwise it's been perfect. Can be a bit bouncy on rough roads, but it is a truck after all. Found the seats a little uncomfortable for my legs the first 2 months, but now OK. The utility is perfect for me & love open-air feeling. Size is perfect for me, but might be tight for larger/heavier people (somewhat narrow vehicle). Nice seat fabric on Sport Edition! MPG avg: 20city/24hwy. Rides on Michelin LTX tires.

I traded a 2002 Xterra which was junk for this 2002 4Runner. I test drove the then new 2003 4Runner but felt it too big and heavy. I've not had a single problem with this 4Runner, it's built tight, drives great, is quiet, roomy, and wonderful on road trips. I decided it needed more power so I installed a TRD supercharger and some other goodies which really woke it up. I've dyno tested this 4Runner at 240RWHP. That's Mustang GT territory and the 4Runner weighs nearly the same. I'm thrilled Toyota offers these types of upgrade options. It's an entirely new animal.

Bought the 2002 2WD 4Runner based on reliablity history of Toyota. Nothing spectacular after 52,000 miles. Always starts, no major repairs - except the automatic radio antenna broke and needs to be repaired someday. Car is holding up well. Only regret is that I didn't buy a 4WD and sunroof, both would make the car better for me. Drives/handles like a truck - not the smoothest ride. Good visibility, no blind spots. Somewhat noisy on the road - even with new tires. Sometimes, I'd prefer to have a fun car with some pep, but my plan was to keep the 4Runner until I get to 200,000 miles.

I purchased my '02 4Runner 4WD Limited when it was about 2 years old. I purchased from an acquaintance who I knew took virtually perfect care of all of his vehicles. I purchased this 4Runner as I am one of the very few folks who truly needs 4WD and uses it regularly. I had had previous positive experiences with Toyota 4WD vehicles, and liked the aspects of balance, ground clearance, true box frame, two speed transfer case... in short, I wanted a small truck. So far, so good. My 4Runner still looks and runs virtually like new. Oil changes with Mobil 1 every 5K, plus meticulous maintenance will hopefully allow this vehicle to last for many years.

I use the truck for daily driving. It is rock solid. I also drive 270 miles to family several times a year and the trip is comfy. I travel in fields while towing and travel down poorly maintained dirt roads. So I cover a lot of different terrains and the truck functions. Interstate travel is quiet, the transmission shifts smoothly. Off road and dirt roads the truck performs well.

My 4Runner has been more trouble than it is worth. Between faulty stereos (I'm up to three now), the paint peeling off the front bumper (which Toyota will not consider a factory defect), and the vibration problems, I am wondering if I just got a lemon or if Toyota's high ranking for quality is nothing but a bunch of hype. I can say that if I don't get these problems resolved soon that I will get rid of that albatross and get something more dependable and mechanically sound.

I've owned my 4Runner since new. Four years and 75k miles later I have to say I don't regret the purchase one bit. My 4Runner has been very reliable and I haven't had a single problem with it. Routine mx is all that has been required and I usually stretch that out. It rides like a truck, which I like. The 4x4 is outstanding on the snow and ice. The only complaint of course is the gas mileage (16/21ish mpg). It doesn't run as well on 87 grade fuel. But I knew all this when buying the vehicle. I highly recommend!

I thought after having this car for three years I would be wanting something different. I love this vehicle. Even for 2002 it looked dated, but we could not have done better for an SUV; got character though! The 4Runner has always stood out in design, ability, and reliabliity. Though it is not the most comfortable for long road trips it cannot be beat for hauling around all my equipment and the occasional off-road excursion. The traction and skid control are great. I can see driving my Runner around for at least three more years; even though I do like the new ones as well. As far as ride is concerned we just put on new tires - Michelin XTSes. I am really amazed how much better the ride

This is a well built, solid car. At 165,000 it is free of rattles and squeeks. That is the only good news about this vehicle. Mine is a mechanical nightmare. I have driven an average of 47000 highway miles per year since 1989, and usually keep my vehicles until they hit 150000-17500 miles. A list of previous cars: 1989 Taurus, 1992 T-bird, 1995 T-bird, 1996 Jeep cherokee, 1999 Grand Cherokee. Never had to replace a Transmission in any of those. The Toyota's lasted 80000 miles. Other firsts: Radiator fan and water pump at 100000 miles, 4 wheel drive Actuator(s) at 165000 miles (another $1900). Average trip to the dealer costs $1000. I'll be trading this fine vehicle ASAP. Buyers beware

We purchased this vehicle because we live in the mountains and need a lot of ground clearance and off road handling. The only area in which this car has disappointed me is in it's off road handling, which unfortunately in our situation, is a huge chunk of time. When we purchased this vehicle we were aware of it's "truck like chassis" but this car is downright scary to drive on our gravel (sometime washboard) roads. I'm not going any faster than 20-25 miles per hour, usually less. This car fish tails or skids over the slightest washboard. I have talked to other people in this area with the same problem.

IMHO... 4Runners are the best mid sized SUV on the road. My 3rd generation 4Runner has noticably more power and creature comforts. The only prob I've noticed (hence my build quality descrepancy)is the door seals. Drivers and rear passenger molding does not fit right. Local dealer just shrugs and says I can get a new set of molding for more than I'm willing to pay. Oh well... great truck.. just wish I'd held out for 4X4.

I was looking for a vehicle, and I wanted something that had 4 wheel drive for Michigan winters, but only part time so I could switch it off when not needed. I needed a vehicle which was dependable, and would look as good going across a muddy dirt road, or pulling up to a nice restaurant. This truck fits the bill in every way. I'm a little over 50k, and I have yet to have a problem (other then a flat tire). Toyota quality wins me over again.

After having the suv for more than 3 years, I find no major problem with the car. The only thing is that the car tend to shake a little when breaking. I asked the dealer to look into the problem and they said its just the surface of the break pad is either dirty or uneven. To fix the problem I need to replace the whole break pad which can cost over $200. So I am just gonna leave it alone until its time for new ones. Otherwise no other major problems. The car runs great and its so much fun to drive. Its also got a great look but the new 2003 model looks a lot better.

I bought my 4Runner in September of 2002 (one of the last of it's generation). It's my first SUV, and I wouldn't trade it for any other. The ride is rough/firm, gas mileage isn't very good (18-23 mpg), and it's short on low end torque but... it's the best looking SUV out there in my opinion, is roomy without being too big to manuver in the city, has a great multi-mode 4WD system with traction/skid control (great for rain/snow), performs extremely well off-road, has good brakes, great ergonomics, and is very solidly built and reliable (no problems after 38k mi) and will probably last for well over 200k miles with good maintenance.

I got a 2002 4Runner SR5 4WD Sport Edition and I love it. The ride is trucklike and bumpy over washboard surfaces but the 4Runner can take almost anything you throw at it. The engine is smooth but it will leave you wanting more horses(one of the only faults). The braking is exceptional plus the traction and stability control helps me stay firmly on the road in bad conditions. The inside and outside styling is superb and in my opinion it is the best looking SUV on the market. Average fuel economy for an older SUV about 17-21 in my experiance.

I love this vehicle - it's reliable, both maintenance and durability wise. They could have done a little bit better with mpg and the horsepower. I think those are really the two major areas it was lacking in, but other than that I think it's a great car just like the rest of the models Toyota makes. Now the interior... I accept it's a little outdated but it's not that bad; they should had put a better stereo system on it. Exterior wise I think Toyota did a great job.

This is my 3rd Toyota, following a 2WD pickup and a '98 Tacoma. The great thing with Toyota's is that you get exactly what you expect. They don't have as much power as other brands and they're not as big on creating a luxury interior, but that's not what I look for in a depreciating asset. Like my other Toyotas, routine maintenance is all I ever have to do and that saves me thousands of $'s over friends with other brand vehicles. The only expenses after 76,000 miles are a set of tires, pair of rotors, some oil, and some windshield wipers. It still even has the original brake pads. The vehicle is superbly engineered, handles off- road situations very well, and is great in snow and rain.

Excellent vehicle, very reliable and sturdy. Uncomfortable ride on poor road surfaces which are common in the US. Rather thirsty on the gas, but great engine. Poor seat height adjustment. Cheap stereo, with speakers occasionally shorting. Some noises from front left suspension bushes over bumps since new. Minor brake problems not able to be rectified by dealer in New Orleans, with 2 attempts(Lakeside Toyota). Will purchase other Japanese brand next due to ugliness of new 4Runner model. Overall, however, 2002 4Runner Sport is a great vehicle.

After about three weeks and 1000 miles with this SUV, I'm very impressed! Gas mileage has been in the lower 20's, impressive for an SUV. Interior and exterior fit and finish is excellent. It pulls a 3,500 lb. boat very well. I'm 6'3" and leg room is adequate, as is head and shoulder room. The 4Runner steers and handles tightly, almost car like. So far, this is the great vehicle it's been touted to be! It has all the features I wanted without some I didn't.

I have had my 2002 sr5 for 2 years problem free. I have 35k miles and it runs and drives like day one. No squeaks or rattles anywhere. Only one complaint aside from it being outdated, but I knew that when I bought it. The engine is weak. It is very smooth and has good low end torque, but lacks on the highway. I would recommend this to anyone who wants a rugged truck like suv.

Great quality for the money..You get what you pay for..Higher price that avg SUV,but, I will drive this rig for many years with no regret. Getting around 18-19 MPG with an TRD airfilter installed and have enough power to get me up the mtn pass at 90+,so, I am not sure why they are saying that it is way underpowered? Cool rig!

I've had the 2002 for over a year now, and it's even better than my old one. It pulls my boat like it isn't even there, and does great in the snow. I would highly recommend a 4runner to anyone wanting a solid SUV.

I bought this 4WD SR5 Used as a Certified vehicle with the original waranty. Best way to buy a car I think. Threre is a service notice for the weather striping around the doors and they take care of it for free. Other than that the car drives great. Lots of room comfortable ride for a truck and good stability on the road. The truck is built with good quality and is a great SUV for the money. If you want a cadillac ride in a SUV go to a Navigator but if you want all around great perfomance and quality this is the SUV of choice... No wonder why you see so many on the road.

This truck has a major flaw. You will hear the 3-clicking noise when you first start it in the morning even if you do not step on the brake. Drive the truck for 10 minutes and make a complete stop, and after a few seconds you will hear the clicking noise again for 3 seconds as if something is engaging and disengaging. The local dealer and the District Office of Toyota Motors informed us that the noise we hear is the ABS Actuator Pump and it is normal so Toyota would NOT replace it. This persistent noise can be really annoying so buyer beware...

Everything’s been great except for the weather stripping on the inside door frame, however the dealer corrected the problem on all four doors. There wasn't enough sealant. Please note that dealer had added the extended warranty, credit life and gap insurance without my consent. They also had me at 7.75% and I have great credit. Took the rebate and went thru my credit union for 4.5%

I just bought my 2002 SR5 2WD two weeks ago and I really dig it! Despite all of the belly-aching over the lack of horsepower by many, it really is not too bad. It's much faster than the Mitsu Montero Sport (3.5 liter - 200 HP) that I test drove (I can walk faster - on my hands)! I like the interior layout and I love the exterior. It's a bit dated, but still a "looker" nonetheless. I'm hoping the new 4Runner looks like a Highlander, so I won't be tempted to trade in.

THE 4RUNNER REMINDS US OF THE LANDCRUISER, BUT SINCE MY WIFE DIDN'T WANT SUCH A CAVERNOUS SUV, BUT DID WANT TO SIT UP TALL, SHE FELL IN LOVE WITH THE 4RUNNER. COMPARED TO THE LANDCRUISER, THE 4RUNNER IS MORE FUN TO DRIVE, EASIER TO PARK, AND HAS BETTER PICK-UP. WE FIND THE INTERIOR DESIGN JUST FINE, IF NOT UTILITARIAN. ALL IN ALL, THE 4RUNNER PROVIDES EVERYTHING WE NEED IN AN SUV, INCLUDING THAT ALL- IMPORTANT TOYOTA RELIABILITY, SAFETY AND RESALE VALUE.

This is my first SUV and after careful homework, the 4runner came out on top. The quality that Toyota builds into a vehicle is quite impressive. These vehicles are priced on the upper end, but like I always say "pay now or pay later"! The ride is stiff but understandibly so, after all it is a truck. The sport edition is worth the extra money, as it adds the real meaty looks and really makes for an attractive vehicle. This vehicle will surely last even the most rugged of users.

This is the third Toyota we have owned and we can't say enough good things about them. Our new 4Runner is a good mix of rugged practicality and luxury (sunroof, CD, air conditioner...). We recently drove 5000 miles across the country in it and found it to be very comfortable on the long haul. It has plenty of room for all of our stuff and handles a trailer pretty well (a little more oomph wouldn't hurt on the hills). The gas mileage has been better than expected, we are now getting 20-22 mpg with it. I am looking forward to a long and happy relationship with this car.

I went from a Grand Cherokee to a BMW 3 Series and then to the '02 4Runner Sport Edition. I had an 88 4Runner with the removable top.. (super cool truck) and now I am back to Toyota again. I test drove every SUV out there and while it may not be the best bargain up front, I am sure it will pay off in the long run. Check the prices on used 4Runners. They're almost as much used as they are new! I have yet to regret making this purchase. I bet you won't be either!

This vehicle is sized very nicely to fit into compact parking spots. In addition, its size makes it very maneuverable on road and off. The build quality is phenomenal and the switchgear feels well put together. I like the heated mirrors, power rear window and especially the safety features (ABS, VSC, Trac). The only real gripes that I have are the gas mileage and the tipsy feeling that I get when I negotiate certain curves (feels like it'll roll even though it really won't).

I enjoy driving it every day. The best vehicle I ever owned. Toyota builds it right. SUV shouldn't ride like a car. This vehicle can go off road or not. People that gripe about the ride should buy a car, it is setup to do it all

This is a really nice vehicle. In fact, it's the best SUV I've ever owned and I've owned Fords, GMC's and Chevrolets. It definitely is much stiffer than any of the above noted vehicles. It is also designed to out last the others. It is fun to drive and has all controls within easy reach. It pales in comparison the my Suburban in size and towing capacity, but excells in safety appointments and it's ability to brake surely and quickly. I look forward to lower annual maintenance costs and the ability to trust that my vehicle will be ready to do what I want it to do.

My previous two vehicles were Explorers. Each one ranks as junk next to the 4Runner. I cannot describe how much of a HUGE increase in quality this vehicle has been. I am so happy I bought this vehicle. I do not plan to ever sell it. My only complaint is that the driver's seat would go 1" lower, as I have a tall torso. But, that is not a big complaint. I would recommend this truck to anyone I like, the Explorer to anyone I don't like. I bought it now so I could order exactly what I wanted before the redesign. This has always been my favorite looking SUV, and everything else about it has fallen in line...

The 4runner has a lovely ride. It's not at all truckish. However, it's no car. The 4runner is smooth and quiet on the road. It doesn't have quite the pep I'd sometimes like, but it's improving as the miles increase. The gas mileage is also a little disappointing, although we do manage to get an average of about 19 mpg around town. There is lots of room in the 4runner. We can have two kids' car seats in the back and not have to have the front seats forward. The room behind the rear seats is enormous and we have never needed additional space. In the winter the 4WD capabilities and additional electronic additions such as ABS, VSC, etc. really helped and gave a sense of confidence.

The 4Runner epitomizes the definition of SUV without sacrificing the comforts of a luxury vehicle. This is my 2nd 4Runner and my 5th Toyota. You can't ever go wrong with Toyota, their quality, reliability, resale, and overall prices are untouchable.

We purchase our first Toyota last year, and wish we would have done it sooner!!!!! We couldn't ask for a better vehicle. The reviews say "truck- like ride", they are so wrong, and we would know we also have a F-250; now that is a truck ride. The only drawback is the seats are a little small, but not too uncomfortable. Toyota has found a loyal consumer in us!!!!!!!!

I've had my first 4Runner for two weeks now. My wife and I really like it. We had a loaded Montero SR, so we miss the amenities, but the 4Runner is more fun to drive. Some say it feels like a truck, I say it's responsive and it allows you to feel the road. Not mushy road fell like the other SUV's out there. The Sport Package makes it look original, and tougher than anything else on the market right now. The smaller engine it better than I thought it would be, but bigger would still be better. Great braking!

Just picked it up.

I purchased because of the great lease from Chase Bank on this car for 39 months. Check it out. Slower then my Radio but some nicer features such as sliding rear window, nicer leather, and more room. Warranty needs to be longer. Tons of room. Easy to use controls. My 2nd Toyota, I could fit my first one into the back.

Lovin' it!

I've loved the 4Runner since it was a truck with a fiber glass top back in '84 and I'm positively loving it now. I love the ride height and it handles well with such a high center of Gravity. The ride feels like I'm gliding (my last SUV was a Jeep Cherokee so belive when I say this doesn't feel like a truck!) Interior is quality. Needs a touch better gas mileage and a more powerful engine.

This is my 2nd 4Runner and I still believe it is the best true SUV on the road. The reviews that say the ride is very "truck-like" are not rating my Runner. I have driven a number of SUV's on the road and can confirm that this is one of the best. I have never had a single problem with either of my Runner's and will remain a loyal Toyota customer based on my satisfaction.

I purchased this product because there is not a more rugged SUV on the market. It drives live a truck, but that is what makes this durable long lasting truck what it is. Although, after driving American made SUV's the 4-Runner is a much more substantial, sturdy, squeek free vehicle. It feels less "loosy goosy" than the Explorer. Fit and finish is what sold me on the 4-Runner. The 4-Runner is not as plasticy as the competition. Toyota knows how to make good vehicles, that is what I paid for. I could have spend what I did for an RX300, but they are really different vehicles all together.

Has this design been around for what seems like 15 years now. For today's standards, this SUV is underpowered. The interior is very tight especially the width and lack of rear legroom. The ride is rough. Unless you offroad, forget it.

I adore the look of this vehicle and the ride as well. It's the interior design that I feel needs some changing. I have a 1999 SR5 on a 3 year lease. The seats, compared to other vehicles, such as the Explorer and the Jeep Grand Cherokee, are very small and uncomfortable. Also, the material used on the SR5 is very hard & scratchy.

So far, so good (purchased 02/23/02). Performs smoothly; the rear cargo window features power-window capability; deceptively roomy interior. Perhaps its best feature is the SUV's "quality" feel that one gets only when driving in a Toyota. On the non-plus side, the interior dash looks rather bland, despite the "walnut" wood trim. Also, the 4Runner's various accessory pieces (i.e. plastic lumbar adjustor thingees)are, to be frank, cheap; Handles curves in a "so-so" manner.

Toyota's 4-Runner is an outstanding vehicle. I leased a new limited in 1999; the ONLY thing I did to this vehicle was change the oil and rotate the tires. I did not have a single problem. The ride is smooth, quiet, and safe. I love sitting up high to see over traffic. Most of all, the reliability/dependability is first class. I HIGHLY recommend a Toyota 4-Runner!
