This jeep wj with the legendary inline 6 engine is great on and off road with the capability of getting it muddy or shining it up and it still looking great the jeep is pretty nice as long as you don't mind getting 11 mpg city and 19 highway but all around great jeep

A Jeep is work and play.

I purchased the Jeep with 75,000 miles on it. It had some problem. The things I have had to deal with are: $250 blower motor control unit, $650 radiator replacement. $95 electric door and window control repair, $450 brake repair. The Jeep has 95,000 miles on it now and it runs strong. The Good 18 - 24 MPG, good traction in snow and good ride on bad roads.

I've owned this car for 3 years now. I received it with 132,000 miles and one previous owner (an older couple). It is at 150,000 miles now and I have never seen a worse vehicle, and I'm a from a family of mechanics. I have been through 2 engines, 1 alternator, a new muffler, new catalytic converter, new engine chassis, new horn, rewired fuse box, new trim, new flywheel, 2 sets of rotors, countless hoses, new radiator, new ac unit, and now is stuck in first and second gear. This is obviously an awful car. I have never gone more than two weeks without an issue. Even now, it won't crank and smokes when it turns over. Save yourself the trouble and buy a newer model than the wj.

The Jeep is great. It has solid front and rear axles so it works great off and on road. The 4.0 L Straight Six has great low end torque to get you quick off the line and over rocks. The vehicle is body on frame which makes it very moddable so I installed a 4 inch lift to make it better offroad. Select-trac is great for offroad and snow and allows for very high traction in slippery situations. It starts and idles perfectly even at the sub zero temperatures we get here. Overall I think it's a great vehicle.

Love my Jeep!

I have had my 2002 Jeep grand Cherokee since 2008 and it already had 67,000 miles on it. It is the straight 4.0 ltr 6. I now have 187,000 plus and it runs as great as the day I bought it. The most expensive part I had replaced was believe it or not the oil pan $600 as the old one piece that lets the drain plug screw into the weld broke loose and fell in the pan. I have replaced the starter also, but did that myself for just the part costing $145. I still use this truck everyday 25 miles each way back and forth to work. It is very easy to work on. I change the oil every 3000 miles and to be honest, I have never replaced the transmission fluid, but will do so soon. But this truck is like clockwork. starts up every day, drives smooth, it is a little noise, but I think if I had different tires it would be quieter. The heater still works great. The air cond just started to taper off and I will recharge. This truck is absolutely awesome in the snow and rain. I love the flexibility of the 4 wheel part and full time. I have never used the low, and do not take off road, but living new phila, we do get some extreme weather. I know a person that has over 500,000 on the same 4.0 engine. This is definitely a keeper. I did have a issue with the temp control that helps to regulate the eng temp. I was replacing ever year for 2 years and then I decided to replace myself. It is located on the passenger side wheel well behind the front Light. I replaced and found that they were not adding great under the module that prevents moisture from damaging the unit. I have now had the same part for 5 years with no issues. I recommend this truck to anyone.

I bought my Jeep a little under a year ago an I've already up almost 20,000 miles on it. The truck now has 147,000 miles. I paid $5000 for the car and I've already almost put $3000 into it in work. The truck has no, NO, resale value.. NOT worth the 12.5 MPG I average.. Terrible jeep customer service, and no worth while recalls. I've had several wheel seals, drive shaft seals, speakers and heated seats replaced and Jeep says these are "not" common problems. It's pretty and comfortable but not worth time/money.. Save yourself and your money

I bought my GC new, in Aug, 2002. Its only options were side curtain airbags. It's finally giving up the ghost, as it's turning over to 220,000 miles. It's been the image of reliability. Replaced: Starter - 175K, 1 rear wheel bearing - 130K, power steering hose - 165K, 1 ignition coil - 143K. It burned a quart of oil every 4K until about 180k, when it began going through a quart every 5-600. It still starts instantly. Brakes? Of course. They went rumbly 17K, but I then had them turned on the vehicle, and they were good for another 50. I upgraded them to the later style calipers, and added ATE grooved rotors at 126K. Sadly, it's leaking and smoking badly now. New ride time.

This is my first and only car. Was bought in 2005 or 6 with 40k-ish miles. Since then I have replaced the window regulator SEVEN times. Seriously learn to fix it yourself, the part costs about $70. Costs $300-400 at a mechanic. Fan relay broke once. Now the Throttle position sensor is jacked up and causing me to stall out while idling occasionally. Tail lights are just always out - honest to god I rigged it with tinfoil and that seems to work the longest. Battery seems to need replacing yearly. It has always groaned/vibrated when making slow tight turns no one seems to know what it is. All of the hydrolics for the lift gate/hood dont work. Basically, only buy it if you a fairly handy.

This vehicle is my first car, and I purchased it with 134k miles on it. It's a great truck, has the power I need, and the fuel economy is good. The seats, although cloth, are plush and comfortable, and the standard stereo sounds pretty good. I specifically looked for a Jeep with the 4.0L I6 engine in it due to the reliability of it. I love my Jeep!

We bought ours in 2001 October. It stopped on us a year after we purchased it. It just stopped in the middle of the road but they fixed it. The maintenance cost started to get high in 2012, 2013 and so will be in 2014, with expected repair cost of 5000. We have 135K miles now and it still looks great inside and out but maintenance cost is going up. We are seriously thinking not to do any more repairs and just let it fall apart. What do you think?

We must have been lucky, we had a pretty good experience with our jeep. At 86,000 miles it was smashed by a tree in our driveway. We had only spent money on brakes, tires and a water pump. Otherwise it ran great and filled our needs. I'm headed out looking for another one to replace ours. I"ve been looking at reviews and no matter what you own; people have trouble. Just try researching other cars! It's a shame manufacturers won't stand behind their cars when it's pretty obvious there are issues with some parts.

Loved the car as soon as I saw. I even paid STICKER PRICE!!!! I thought it was worth every penny. Not even 1 week in the check engine comes on.... I have put in almost more than 4-5K in some normal maintenance but some that are just annoying... For one thing it never starts right, always cranks over and over! I am one that hates when ppl ride their brakes, so I know I dont but the brake pads go so fast. I had to replace the routers three times already. Now its starting to stall on me. I just put 1500 into about two weeks ago and now the radiator just went the other day while i was driving. I ONLY HAVE 75,000 Miles on it. over a 100k would make sense. Looking to just trade it in, with a loss.

I bought this used for my wife. She loves everything about it. Me? I hate sinking more money into a below average SUV. I've replaced driver and rear power window motors. I've replaced the radiator twice. Rear tail light circuit board went out. Air only blowed on defrost wouldn't blow on your face or feet, and its gets awful gas mileage for even an SUV. Bought it with 86K miles it now has 120K. I've done everything mentioned above in just over two years. My first Jeep was a 95 Wrangler that was great, but when the wife is ready for something newer we are going to pass the Jeep dealerships and look for something with fewer problems.

Bought fresh off the lot in 2002 for over 50 grand. Nothing but problems from the get go, and the dealership hoses you! Jeep has awful customer service. Though a nice looking vehicle on the outside, i've had the heat fixed twice now, A/C is on its third break. I swear, heat works in the summer and ac works in the winter. It started making an awful whirring sound and I noticed it was leaking fluids all over the driveway, took it to the dealer and they wanted over 6 THOUSAND DOLLARS to fix everything!! Turns out it was leaking coolant, power steering pump was cracked, and the gas caps seem to be famous for giving out on these. Now transmission is going..

I bought my 2002 Cherokee with 42k miles on it. It is now at 80K miles. The bulk of miles have come from traveling from utah to idaho to visit family and neither me or my wife are aggressive drivers. Since I have owned it here is a list of things that broke. Both front window motors, replaced all four rotors, fixed the transmission, radiator fan relay, The bearings in the back end shattered causing oil to leak onto the e-brake whole back end torn apart to fix that mess, blown head gasket, cracked head, water pump... I was so excited to get a Jeep and to support an American car company. 1st and last Jeep I will ever own. Nissan and Toyota, here I come.

I bought the vehicle new in 2002. Did not take long to start experiencing problems. From what I was told this was the year they decided to make changes. One in particular they used non adjustable ball joints. This led to my vehicle pulling to the right which in turn cupped my tires. Dealer replaced ball joints but would not replace tires. Poor design in duct work. There is ample airflow from left side but barely non on right (passenger side). Was told this was by design. Had issue with AC not working, had to take to dealership several times before it was corrected. Drivers seat frame broke in two places. This happened just as vehicle was out of warranty. Replaced at my cost.

Love it!

I have had this truck for about 6 years, and yes..the HVAC doors broke once, the rotors do warp if you are rough on the truck. between me and the wife..about 30k between rotor cuts. Not too bad considering. All of the electronics are great, including the seat heaters, and the 10 disk changer. Lots of power, and has been a very reliable vehicle for us. Tows a 5000 lb boat like it isnt even there. The Quadradrive is amazing, you cant get this thing stuck!

i traded my f-150 for this jeep because my wife and i needed a more family friendly vehicle when i bought it the ac wasn't working right and the brakes needed replaced which Chrysler fixed for free and put new rotors on the front. For someone who works on there own vehicles this is the perfect vehicle everything is pretty much easy to access. Just wished it had more cargo space and i love the 4.7 liter high output motor but to get maximum performance out of the engine you must use premium gas.

Bought this Jeep with 51K miles on it. Not even 12 months after buying it the problems started and they haven't stopped since. I've replaced the following: front passenger window motor, rear passenger window motor, radiator fan (2x), radiator fan relay (2x), A/C coolant, rear brakes, turned front rotors, and the gas cap. I still am in the process of replacing the passenger side mirror and both tweeters. I now have 82K miles on it and I haven't had any problems with the engine and transmission. There are more minor problems that I have but not enough room to write about it.

correct me if I'm wrong, but a new trans before 80k is NOT OKAY and this seems to be a common trait among jeeps. I bought mine at 60k. I got sucked in by the super comfy interior, stylish exterior and the price range. It felt luxurious to me at the time and I went for it despite problem jeeps I'd heard about. And guess, what they are all true. Lately it seems one thing after another so I am selling it now because I'm sick of pouring $ into it and having more things happen. I think a good car should easily go 160k with proper maintenance. Hopefully my next will be more sufficient.

I bought this vehicle used with 36,000 miles on it and 45,000 miles later, i am proud to say i am FINALLY getting RID of this car. The AC went twice, the parking brake randomly fell out and for some reason I just went through tires (found out that wheel barring was bent somehow). MPG is awful, the lining around the moonroof fell out constantly, heated seats broke twice, and the side paneling of the door started to fall out. I loved the vehicle at first, but I am truly not sad to see it go this week!

First trans went at about 90,000, second at 135,000. Also, it is no longer a 4wd until i put another 1,000 into it bringing the grand total of mechanical repairs i needed to make on this vehicle close to 7,000 or slightly half of what i paid for the car in the first place. Wouldn't recommend another jeep, looking at other cars now none of which are a jeep because I'm afraid I'll get burned again.

I am the original owner of a 2002 JGC Laredo I6/RWD with very little extras and I can't praise this vehicle enough. Now has 105k miles and no major problems to report. Did have the passenger window motor fail and the A/C had to be replaced last summer. I have used Mobil 1 synthetic on all oil changes since 1000 miles and the engine is still strong. Over 8 years, I have AVERAGED 18.5 MPG and get 23 easily on the highway at 70 MPH. From reading the reviews, it seems that my results are not typical, but I do take great care in driving and maintaining my mighty JGC. The exterior styling is classic, the interior is functional and comfortable and even without 4WD it handles the snow like a champ!

First, there is a recall on the heated seats so call Chrysler if you have questions. I replaced mine twice before getting my recall just this month (June 2010)- $600 each seat. Brakes have been replaced twice - rotors bad. Transmission went out ($3k). Passenger window broke ($400). Power steering problems, replaced blendor on heater ($2k) in 2006; air- conditioning broke now must replace compressor, valve and blendors again ($2k+); CD player broke; gas cap broke; I maintain this vehicle well but it keeps having problems. This is the 5th Jeep I have had and never had any of these problems before this one.

Love everything about this SUV except the issue with the window motor. Replaced the window motor on the driver's side at 60,000 miles; back passenger left side at 75,000 miles; sunroof motor went out at 100,000 miles, now the back passenger right side just went out at 130,000 miles. Refuse to have it repaired at $350, so I'm currently looking to trade for a new car. Will not purchased a Jeep because of the window motor issues. With all the complaints about this problem, you would think Jeep would have recalled the cars to correct the problem. In the long run, they are losing a great deal of business by using choosing to look the other way.

I was the second owner for this vehicle and I have never regretted buying it. I had just gone through a divorce and had to travel across country. I have never had any problems with my jeep except the recall on the radiator which was fixed right away. I've changed the tires once and have only had to change the oil and transmission fluid. I'm about to sell it now at 17,000 miles and am very afraid I will not find a vehicle as reliable. I highly recommend this year for a Jeep if it is a I6!

I bought my Jeep about two years ago, I had always wanted a Jeep, and had my pick of what I wanted. It was a great choice, I had a few problems right off the bat, I blame it on the dealership not the car! After I fixed those problems (normal problems that come with buying a 10 year old car) I got to enjoy my Jeep like it should be. I take care of it and it takes care of me. I feel extremely safe in my Jeep and have a lot of fun driving it! With the limited, I feel comfortable inside and love how I look while I'm driving it! I couldn't ask for a better car!

Love this vehicle. 140,000 miles and the only fixes I have had to make were the drivers side window motor at 60,000 miles, water pump at around 133,000 miles and the front drive shaft at 137,000 miles. The drivers side seat heater went out, but who cares I don't drive naked and the heater still works, so I stay plenty warm. Bought it used with 32,000 miles on it and have made weekly trips from Ft Bragg, NC to Jacksonville, Florida. Ft. Benning, GA to Jacksonville and then the trip From NC to Ft Bliss, Texas pulling a trailer. In Texas now and make a trip every weekend to Tucson, AZ and still get 20+ MPG on the highway. Drove it everywhere loved the thing had it for a year put maybe 30k miles the transmission went out luckily i bought the extended warranty they fixed it a couple months go by the ac quits working ($1,000 repair) then the window motor breaks on the passenger window ($500 repair) another month later the driver window motor breaks ($500 repair) power steering ($300 repair)the heated seats broke the speakers busted didn't fix those two repairs. I bought a used 2002 GC Limited with less than 50k miles in 2008. JGC is pretty reliable and fun to drive since its more truck than car and I enjoy Limited features of leather heated front memory seats, power mirrors, power sunroof, 4WD as well as having a tape deck and rear 10 disk cd changer. But like other reviewers I have experienced numerous repairs and the poor gas mileage that make the vehicle not worth owning. Repairs: several coolant leaks and had to replace driver side power window motor in addition to routine maintenance. Frustrated with poor gas mileage, memory seat malfunction, rubber coming off of doors, and lack of side window defogger. I prefer Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot

Major Disappointment - Don't buy one

After reading all of the reviews, I think I have experienced most of the issues. I purchased this vehicle new in Feb. 2002 and only have 75,000 miles on it 8 years later. It has been back to the dealer or repair shop of 14 occasion. List of Problems 1) Passenger side heater does not work. 2) Transmission has never shifted properly. 5 trips to dealer and still doesn't shift properly. 3) Rear axle replaced 4)Both window arm levers broke so windows wouldn't go back up. 5) Support arms for hood don't work. 6) Major vibration when turning (forward and reverse) 7)Lights come on when vehicle is off 8

The front brakes were replaced and upgraded to the new version, 2x as big + under warranty > around 50k .... The rear are good at 88.9 k still. Have a friend at work put new headlights.. N .. Boxes in for 90$ for both after shipping looks like new

Funny: My 3rd GC. Overland Model. Well maintained @ 60k, the climate control quit working, both seat warmers quit, Ready for 3rd brake job. Cost new $37K. Now needs over $2K work just to make it worth $8k according to KBB. Foolishly thought about trading it in on a new GC. The first thing the tech inspected was climate control, 2nd seat warmers. Internet cites say this is very common. Service department gives me encouragement that if they fix the climate control, they'll put in stronger air flaps than original. This is just plain wrong. I cannot bring myself to buy another Jeep. Had he admitted Jeeps poor design and repaired accordingly, I would of bought a new GC but got murano le.

I bought this jeep new and it was the third Grand Cherokee I've bought. This one has been the best of the three (not that I had much trouble with the first two). No major mechanical problems. Gas mileage in the city is 17 and on the highway 21-23. Goes great in the snow. Original tires (goodyear) were terrible, only lasted 23000 miles just like on the first 2 jeeps I had. but the tires I have bought since all lasted the warranty amount(various brands). Great SUV!

Bought it with 39k miles. Replaced entire tranny at 65k(cost 2600). Replaced pads and rotors once, due again. Replaced front axle at 48k. Replaced entire front end at 85k. Replaced front and real axl seals at 90k, along with valve cover gasket and oil pan gasket. Replaced throttle body sensor 5k miles ago which restricted me from a NYS inspectio. Bad on gas. Good in snow unless you are on an unmarked road, then nothing special. Very comy inside. Awesome Jeep turning radius. Good looks inside and outside. Motor runs strong though would have preferred a V8 had I known better. Evac recall for all 2002's will hurt you if you want an inspection, need to have that fixed. Poor sell-back value.

I bought my Jeep brand new and now at 108K, it's sitting at the dealership with a $2300 estimate. Just spent $800 one month ago. It was fine (except for the brake thing and the fuel injector issues) until it flipped 90K, ok maybe not so fine. List of repairs done: brakes 4 times - same warping rotor issue under class action lawsuit, starter, radiator, one ds window motor, hood shocks, 2 fuel injectors, battery. Now needs: tires, rear shocks, steering column bearing, rear axle seals & bearings, heater core, rear hatch shocks. Complaints: frequent trouble dis- engaging from 4WD, roof paint bubbled early, pathetic GAS MILEAGE!!

While the ride is more "truck" than car it has served me well over the 178K miles I have driven it. Gas mileage is poor, about 20 at best on the hwy and around 15 in the winter around town. For the winter it can't be beat, powering through snow, slush and the assorted gunk. The strong torque to the rear wheels in 2WD causes some spinning out when accelerating from a stop on wet or slick surfaces. But slip into Full Time or Part Time 4WD and traction is excellent. It is expensive to own, I've replaced the transmission, numerous struts, links and what all but the engine will not die.

Purchased my Jeep used with 45,000 Arizona desert-mtn-backroad miles. Have driven it over Calif freeways, AZ hills and Nevada back road exploring. Only had regular maintenance and tune-ups. Replaced windshield with sand-storm damage; added dealer-installed tow system. Only recently replaced shocks and suspension; brake rotors, etc. I have thoroughly enjoyed its reliability and dependability in difficult situations whether highway or sandwashes, creek beds or steep cliff conditions. Recent engine work but have been greatly satified with this Jeep- also my previous 1990 Jeep Cherokee 4WD - in the past fourteen years.

2nd Jeep and really happy with it.

This is my second Jeep and after reading what some people have had very bad luck with their Jeep I though I woud put mine here. I have had mine since 2002 and have not had any Major issue except the breaks this is a known issue with them, I change the breaks myself and save a ton the other Major issue was changing the coil pack but after 145,000 miles I figured it was due so it did not other me. One issue I had was a transmission sensor that was bad but it died during warrenty period so no harm no foul. I pull a camper with this Jeep and it always is there when I need the power. If you do the maintenance on it for the most part it should treat you fine.

Unless you have boatloads of money you should not buy this car. Every problem I have read about is true. I got it at a good price, cheaper than most suvs, looks better than most, with 85k. Rust and bubbles on roof, gas cap, window failure, have to use my head to keep hood up, brake light on and off, interior pieces have come off (rubber around door), leather seats are like a slip cover, mysterious coolant leak, burnt smell, turning corners acceleration fails than jumps moments later without pushing it, engine light is now blinking, paid 160 to tow from 95 (the major highway when this occurred) and after reading everything I will not get it fixed and pray I will break even, still owe 2k.

Never saw this one coming. Our Jeep is on it's 3rd set of rotors, brakes, front caliper bracket. Also front hubs have been done. Rear rotors also warped replaced also. Fan assembly replaced (dealer fix) 3 power window regulators !Gauges reading off. Oil, temp they are reading on the highside. Was told it could be the whole cluster. Needs a new one.! Front end tie-rods both sides replaced. And let's see o2 sensor. And passenger door needs a hinge repair. The weld is pulling away from the door frame. Also it needs rear seal leak repair. Now I do not offroad this truck at all. If so I would exspect some of the things that have gone wrong. But this is unreal. Never again it's a Jeep thing alright:

The Jeep Grand Cherokee was a decent SUV for the first five years - but for the last three years it's just been bleeding money. In the past 24 months, I've spend over $7,000 keeping this thing running. New rear axle, right rear bearing, left rear bearing, power steering pump, fuel pump, battery, fuel filter, power window motors (2), two speakers, hood shocks, all new shocks, tires multiple times, 3 new oxygen sensors for the engine, two new engine (spark plug) coils, new fuel regulator, starter. The worst thing is the alignment. Because Jeep does not allow the camber to be adjusted, I have a slight pull to the left, and need to have the tires rotated at 3k miles and replaced often.

I bought my 2002 grand Cherokee 4.7 v-8 model at then end of 2008, as an upgrade from my 2x4 94 Cherokee. I have to say this thing is amazing, I take it off road almost every weekend, this thing drives as good off road as it does on road. Absolutly no problems with it. Only minor, routine repairs, brakes, one tie rod end and alignment, one o2 sensor. Perfect balance of size, good amount of cargo/passenger space, but not too big that its awkward driving.

I'm seeing a lot of things on these reviews that I've experienced myself. Bought new in 2002 and have had problems with rotors/brakes too. Also the dual zone climate control door went bad (expensive to fix). Also hood struts went bad as well as the gas cap (you'll know when your engine light comes on)...I've seen these 2 problems a lot on reviews. Not sure the seat leather is actually leather - after a few years it gets a bit plastic-y. Also needs more leg room for the driver (I'm 6'2"). Overall it's not bad, but considering it sold for about $38k new I expected much better for my money.

Breaks down at least twice per year, I am writing this becaue I am on Edmunds lookin for a Toyota, last night Christmas eve was the last straw, broke down again, seems like it wont come out of four wheel drive and am burning something, smells like oil. Am guessing from the transfer case. Constantly in for brakes and rotors, this is a design flaw, was even a class action lawsuit for the breaks. Power window on pass gone, not working, has been in the shop way too much for a new vehicle. Never again will I buy a Chrysler product.

I purchased this vehicle in 2004 with 19k miles. I thought I was getting a great vehicle for the price. Turns out the saying is true "You get what you pay for." In 2005, I had to have the cooling engine fan replaced (thanks for the extended warranty that was purchased but still had to pay). In 2006, I had the exact same problem- cooling fan replaced. In 2007, the hood struts went bad along with the gas cap that had to be replaced. In 2008, I had to have get the transmission rebuilt. The driver side window will not work nor will the left tail light (new bulbs, still doesn't work). I am not FIXING another thing, I'm getting rid of this piece of junk. I bought this 8-cyl model as a lease, intending to keep it for 200K+ miles. Routine maintenance, no problems except rear rotors until 95K miles. Then front end going out (typical for jeep, due to BAD design flaw) and 4WD biting the dust... plus I had to put in new front rotors and front hub assemblies. I am terribly disappointed in the lack of high-mile dependability of this vehicle; my Mustang was better! No wonder the power train warranty is only to 70K. After reading other reviews I am now heading to a Nissan dealer; too much $$$ to spend on a vehicle with 97K miles. Owners, look out for that "magic" 100+/-K miles on the odometer, you'll be in for trouble I guarantee it!

Jeep has the best TV commercials. Driving through the mud, under the lake, buried in snow, we all notice the applications. Owning 11 of the Grand varieties, and 3 Wrangler/CJ models. my first review. As far as the advertisements. I can't even drive my Overland on a rainy day, without the rotors warping, replaced at 16k, 36k, 47k, and needed again at 66k miles. To date, climate control problems ($900), starter replaced,3 batteries, multiple visits for unclogging A/C drainage onto passenger floor, drivers heated seat , CD changer not working, power side mirrors need exorcist. I have spent a considerable amount of time enjoying the benefits of performance in snow, ice, pulling the boat.

We bought this car for my son in High School. Within the first week we had 2 windows go bad. Something snapped and they fell down. $450 to fix each one. I have brought it to the mechanic for other "squirrelly" moves as someone wrote earlier, I guess that's just a Jeep thing. I talked my husband into buying it as it was a good deal, it only had 62,000 miles on it for 7k. He will never let me live it down. The car clunks when you almost stop and start again. Had that checked, they could find nothing. The car vibrates and knocks when reversing. This will be our only Jeep. A/C is currently having problems, will be in the shop soon.

Love this car. 4th in a series of Jeeps, 2 CJ's, 1 Cherokee, now this one. Driven hard all it's life. Lots of highway miles, some city driving, long vacation trips, on the road, in the dirt, everywhere. Plenty of power from the 4.7 V-8, lots of comfort from the leather seats, lots of room for all the junk we carry. List of items fixed so far, starter, radiator, fuel rails and fuel pump, three injectors, drivers seat floor mount, steering box, power steering pump and hoses. Not cheap to fix, but with 118,000 miles and counting, it's cost less to maintain than some of my past autos. What happened to Jeep after 2004? I guess my next car will be something else. To bad.

It's a gas guzzler and spent just as much time in the shop as it did on the road. Mainly axle and suspension issues for me. I did drive it hard but I thought that's what the overland was built for. My mistake, didn't mean to use the 4 wheel drive, or drive through that mud, or pull that wrangler/tahoe/land rover out of the sand. My bad!!!

I bought my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD in 2007, used with 70k miles on it. I thought I got a deal of a lifetime on the price. I've only had this vehicle for about 8 months. So far, things that have been wrong with it include: Car lost power and wouldn't start back up for about and hour, then it would die again (had to get that fixed $300), brakes are making a grinding noise even though I am told the brake pads are fine, in reverse it makes a weird clunking and vibrating sound, the mechanics say nothing is wrong. The engine light has been on for a month. Feels squirrely on the highway. I can't afford to keep getting things fixed! I also own a 2000 Honda Civic, never have any problems!

Never had a single mechanical error other than the AC failing 2 times. Car was fun to drive, could go anywhere. But it was slower than molasses. The V6 just simply didnt move the car. The gas mileage stunk. I averaged 13 city 15 highway. Still though I had a lot of great times in the car, and really nothing much went wrong. If gas ever drops in price I would get another.

This purchase was our fourth Jeep. The first three were about perfect, and this Jeep has cured me from ever buying another. The car needed to be painted five times and had to be done by area that failed as opposed to painting the whole car at once. The computers have been unreliable, the radio failed, three of the four window actuators have failed, the condenser and evaporator and vent doors have failed, and it had fuel tank issues. The engine and tranny are good but the rest of the car falls apart around it. Nice comfortable ride but you always know it's never for long. Oh, and the car leaks like a sieve when it rains. I'm headed out to buy an Acura next. Good Heavens!

It has 110,000 miles on it and still going. Sorry, but I have not I liked the Jeep product since the 2002 Jeep. Something happened to the back seat. The seat has shrunk. My previous experience with Jeep has always been positive. However, this 'extended warranty' nightmare is turning me off Jeep products. The first few repairs (note: not covered under warranty) seemed trivial enough, but when the regulator went out I started reviewing complaints online. It seems that the little problems I am having are systemic to Jeep owners in this year range. Compaints: ashtray doesn't stay up, parts replaced: hood lifts, gas cap, rotors, starter, window regulator(s), mirror memory doesn't stay, head lights turn on by themself, heated seat temps too far apart: too cool or too hot, differential leaks. Not too happy.

Bought this car with an extended warranty from CarMax back in 2004 and thank goodness we did. Granted we have put a lot of miles on it - right now has 80,000 miles. About 20,000 miles ago I was driving down I-20 in the middle of a major metropolitan city (you can guess which) when the entire panel illuminated (oil light, engine light, gas light etc...), the windows failed to operate and the AC went out. Since that incident the same problem has happened over 10 times and the CarMax mechanics cannot figure out what it is. Now, the engine light is on half the time while no one seems to know why exactly. Transmission is probably going to drop any day now. Will likely sell within the week.

Only brakes once and fuel filters to maximize performance and mileage. I average 5,000 miles a month and drive it hard. Constantly at 4-5500 rpm range. I have tested this proven 4.0 engine. Use 4x4 4-5 times a week. Mud, rocks, sand, deep water, asphalt. I hit a deer on I10 in south texas and it drove away like a champ. Tranny still shifts good and engine starts every time. This is my 2nd Jeep - I feel they're very reliable, but it is a DOG in the mountains, no oomph up there at all - all the other SUV's pass me by. Wish it just had a little more "kick" to it! Other than that, it's been reliable - I bought it at 21K and I'm at 84K right now. Very dependable still.

The Jeep was the only thing on the dealer's lot that appealed to me. I went in looking to purchase a new car and feel in love with the used jeep! It has never left me any where and runs great plus I love the way it looks. The inside is a little plain and simple but over all it's an awesome car. I feel safe in it. The only down fall is the gas mileage but that is the price you pay driving as SUV! All-in-all I am a very satisfied Jeep owner and don't see myself ever purchasing anything other that a jeep.

Have owned this car since new--now has 68000 miles on it. This has been a great vehicle for snowy northern winters--the best traction of any vehicle I have ever owned on ice and snow. Gas mileage is about what you'd expect with a V8 engine. Great pick up, effortless highway cruising, very maneuverable in town, pulls my utility trailer with garden tractor with no problem. Lots of features and accessories--sunroof, overhead console, etc. Have had no problems with this car except for a single warranty replacement of front brake rotors at 35000 miles. No other problems at all. Replaced the tires at 60,000 miles and they still had tread left! Won't hesitate to buy another Grand Cherokee.

The looks of this vehicle make you fall in love but the repair bills and time in the shop make you hate it. We bought our 2002 Limited in 2004 with 25,000 miles. Thank goodness for extended warranties. During the 2 years of ownership the vehicle was in the shop 8 times for something major. Climate control, engine cooling fan, window regulator(s), CD changer, hood struts, seat heater(s), you name it... it broke. The rear end was clunking and front end was making weird noises when we traded it AND THIS VEHICLE WAS WELL MAINTAINED! If you're going to buy it, get a good warranty or have several $1000's in an account to pay for the repairs.

My 2002 Grand Cherokee was a great buy. I've only had a handful of minor issues with it...nothing that one wouldn't expect from driving 25-40 miles per day in city traffic. But with an average of 18-23mpg or so, it's not unreasonable at all. It's a bit squirrelly on the freeway, but it has amazing control in town. Driving in Houston, Austin and Dallas has been a breeze, even when hauling 5 folks or a full load of "stuff". I'll be drivin' the wheels off mine. Unless of course I get a newer one. (ThatÂ’s why I'm back to Edmunds). Someone looking for a fair sized SUV with good city driving characteristics won't be disappointed.

This is the only vehicle I have ever purchased that I like as well today as the day I took it home. It is a great all around vehicle for towing, going off-road, taking on vacation, etc. It has done everything I have ever asked it to do and I have never had to do anything other than regular maintenance. With the 4.7 V-8 I average 18+MPG on mixed driving and have gotten 22+MPG on the highway. However towing 2500lbs drops it down into the 13MPG range. I will probably purchase another one however, the Commander is also in my line of sight.

I love the look and comfort of my 2002 Laredo but... I bought this Jeep used at 36,000 miles last September. Here it June with almost 57,000 miles and my air conditioning is broken for the 2nd time...not too nice in Florida in the summer. I have a power steering leak and the leather on my drivers seat is starting to crack and separate at the seams. Also, on the overhead console, the coolant low warning keeps beeping at the car's start up but the coolant level and quality is fine. I would really love another one that works great but I think I'll be trading mine in for another brand as soon as I get the air conditioner fixed this month.

The first 36K miles went OK with only one warranty repair. The rear bumper was replaced (It turned a greenish color!). The crappy Goodyear Wangler tires wore out prematurely and I put Michelin LTXs on. The car handles much better and with less tire noise. The problems started at about 40K. First the driver's side window broke. (The dealer told me that this is very common). Next the circuit board in both tail/brake lights burnt out and the assemblies needed to be replaced. (Once again a very common problem). Next the passenger side window motor broke and the window dropped into the door. (Another very common problem). Now the car has a vacuum leak in the brake booster. My least reliable car.

I bought this vehicle new and have loved every day of it. If your main concern is great gas mileage you don't need an SUV, but if you want to do any off roading you want a Jeep. On road manners are great and it is a lot of fun to drive. I have the 4.0 I6 which is nothing but reliable. Select Trac will go anywhere. If you are reading this you are probably looking for a used vehicle. Don't be afraid of these. Hints: Look for one with the 7/70 powertrain warranty remaining. Also, service can be okay or a nightmare depending on the dealership.

I own a 2002 Grand Cherokee Limited Edition with probably all the bells and whistles of the Overland Edition. I have the POWERFUL 4.7L High Output V8 engine that literally throws passengers heads back when you punch the gas. I have the Quadra Drive 4WD system with 3 well placed skid plates in the front, middle, and rear of my Jeep and I am able to go most anywhere I want to whenever I go onto the trails. Yes I said trails, don't be fooled, just cause I have leather and heated 10 way power seats with dual climate control and every creature comfort possible in the cabin, as well as an amazing sound system, I can still take my Jeep out on the weekend and tear up the trails.

This has been a comfortable vehicle for long trips. Brakes and handling are soft. While I love the looks & comfort, service is non-existent. The memory feature has not worked properly from the time we bought it. The rear-end had bad bearings, and the A/C only works on short trips & leaks on the floor. These problems were all taken to several different dealerships, and the common response was "Could not Duplicate" the problem. The only thing that was fixed was the bearing, only because I told them what bearing to fix. Three of the four window regulators have broken. The transmission operates normally for the most part but will slam in & out of gear occasionally. Fuel mileage is at 20 mpg.

I've owned my 2002 Grand Cherokee Since Sept. 2001. We have the Laredo V8, with leather, sunroof, heated seats, and the upgraded audio package. This is my 4th Jeep, and the 3rd Grand Cherokee in our family. We have two kids, two dogs, two jet skis, and a 24' power boat - this truck handles it all. I have only had one major repair related to the defroster, but it was expensive ($1000). I follow the maintenance schedule and get great reliability. We live in Chicago, and I never get slowed down because of snow. I'm getting ready to trade this one in, and am looking for the same model with low miles. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a really functional SUV.

Shortly after the 36k mile warranty (37400 miles to be exact) the AC blend doors failed and that will require a $2000 repair; we have also had several electrical problems that come and go. Last week the gauges all started jumping before the key was put into the ignition. None of these problems are covered of course. We really like the looks and how comfortable Grand Cherokee is but the quality is very poor. We have two Mercedes that are of much better quality and I'm afraid that this will be our last American designed automobile.

This is the most comfortable used SUV you will find. I bought mine new in 2002 and I have never regretted it. No mechanical problems to date, with over 43K on the odometer. Offroad it is amazingly adept and easy to navigate narrow paths on nearly any terrain. On road it's a little soft but predictable, with a great turn radius. The seats are so comfortable (my friends Lexus seats are not as comfortable). The 4.7L V8 is a tad thirsty (consistently 17mpg), but the power from the near-300 ft-lbs of torque will silence any criticism when acceleration or off-road grunt is needed. The Quadra-Drive takes me to places my wife's Forester can only dream of.

In the little over month and a half that I have had the vehicle, the service engine light has come on for the 4th time (today) and the transmission still hunts for gears while accelerating (basically it can't decide if it wants to shift down or not, or just shifts down too early.) This weekend I'm trading it in. I got in over my head with this piece of junk and I'm worse for the wear, but I'll take the hit to get rid of it. As much fun as SUV's are I believe I'm going back to a car.

I have had my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD for about a year now and I absolutely love it. The interior is styled great and has all the features that I want in a vehicle, and as for the 4.7L V8 engine, absolutely great. This vehicle has tremendous power and excellent throttle response. The only thing I do not like is the 4WD. It doesn't go into 4WD the way I would like it to. For this to be a SUV, it really doesn't drive like one. It is a very stable vehicle in the curves and also seems to stop really well for its size. Overall I can't tell you all the good luck that I have had with my Jeep. This is the vehicle I have been wanting for a while now and I have finally got it. A+.

This is my 7th Jeep product. The 1st six were great vehicles except for one transmission in a '93 Grand Cherokee. My '02 JGC Overland has had nothing but problems in 111K miles. Brakes, electrical gremlins, heater core @ 99K and now a transmission @ 109K miles. The tech who rebuilt the tranny says rear end due very soon. The car has all highway and some beach miles, so it hasn't been used hard. When the car runs it's a dream. Too bad it likes the shop more than my garage. Maintenance is per the manufacturer schedule. Build quality and reliability of the main parts is suspect. 100K miles is not excessive nowadays. This car should go 200K-300K for the price.

I love my Jeep, from a driving standpoint. With the V8, it's quite responsive and fun to drive. Everyone always comments on how comfortable and quiet it is Great for long road trips and nasty weather. But this is the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. Luckily we bought an extended warranty when we purchased this vehicle. I can't imagine how many thousands of dollars it has saved us. Problems we have had: the rotors warp and need replacing (3 times so far, until we switched to non-Chrysler parts), bad power steering system, transmission pump, electrical shorts, jammed locks, faulty heating and A/C.

We have found this vehicle to be somewhat less than what we expected from Jeep. We have four main complaints. 1. It does not get anywhere close to the promised gas mileage. 2. It down shifts very hard when on the interstate. 3. The comfort of the seats is not good for long trips. 4. In the first 30,000 miles we had to replace brake rotors & pads, and had to replace fuel injectors, very little of which was covered under warranty. I would not buy another Jeep SUV.

I absolutely LOVE this car but reliability is mediocre and 5-star dealer service and Chrysler's hotline for warranty issues are disappointments. I weekly tow a trailer and the car does well; this one has the quiet Select-Trac because axle whine from both my last 2 Jeeps with Quadra-Trac eventually was intolerable at 60 mph. But - easy to get stuck on wet grass - no limited slip. Had to replace seat heater, gauge cluster, starter, brakes twice, & all chrome wheels twice - no warr 2nd time!

This is our second Grand and it by far is the best product yet. The HO engine can now only be surpassed by the new 2005 Hemi. It is a superb people mover and safe when it comes to moving little ones as well. I have changed the front rotors at 30000 and all is fine. Jeep has never put a large enough front rotor on any Grand. This is still managable. Love the body style and think it is superior to the newer 2005.

With 45,000 miles on the 02 Overland, I'm getting ready to sell it and get into something smaller and safer (do yourself a favor and check crash tests on NHTSA and IIHS websites). Had two Grand Cherokees before this one, a 97 and a 99, and this was the best by far. Stealth luxury car aspects appeal. A solid feel to it overall. Negatives: brake rotors on this and the 99 have warped like clockwork every 11-13,000 miles. The pinion and axle seals all needed to be replaced at my 45 k service. Because ride is "jiggly", my wife hates riding in it. Average fuel mileage consistently at 13. Best mileage, on an all interstate run was 20mpg.

I owned 2 Explorers before I finally crossed my fingers on the reliability issue got a Jeep. It's a superior vehicle all around: better ride, very comfortable seating, awesome power and acceleration from the 4.7, more tow capability, REAL off- roading ability. Averaging lifetime 17mpg (4.7 w/4wd), only 1 mpg less than my '99 V-6 2wd Explorer. Fewer quality/warranty issues than I expected. Best, most versatile vehicle I've ever owned.

I've not had any problems since my last review. I have 39,000 miles on it now and I've only changed brakes once, at 33,000. Still my only gripe is that the A/C is not cold enough for the Texas heat. I still plan on keeping it past my 7/100,000 warranty.

I bought this car with 19,000 miles and have put close to 19 on it myself. I have it serviced at the proper intervals and have had no problems at all. Looks like I will need my brake pads replaced ssoon as they've recently been squeaking (37 k miles). The MPG is typical for a 4X4, but worse than my two previous Ford Explorers. Great sound system- I love the 10 disc changer. Power is average. If you crave power, you definitely need to get the V-8. My only real complaint is the A/C-- on really hot days it is terrible! Have taken it off-roading and through deep snow-- goes through it easily. Very good ride on long trips.

My jeep has been well maint. to the tune of $$. Although it has been taken "care" of, it has been been plagued by problems. Both bun warmers and the computer console burned out, the odometer developed bleedthrough on the numbers (you could see mileage when you had the trip meter on..) air cond leak (somewhere), evap system leak (somewhere).. IS ANYONE SEEING A PATTERN? JEEP stands behind their product until the magic 36KÂ…then see ya. BEWARE-- do your homework BEFORE you purchase a product which doesn't have any workmanship quality. Shame on JEEP.

I will ditto most of the other comments made on the Overland - but I would add this. Until you have an incident - a sudden flood, child darting from between cars, a person falling off the curb in front of you, a driver running a red light or making a totally un-natural turn in front of you - you only see the Clark Kent side of this Jeep. I have been amazed at how fast, how nimble, how go-anywhere this Super Jeep is when these things happen. I know mine has saved three lives and thousand of dollars by avoiding and circumventing accidents. This SUV has earned my respect and love.

This jeep is my first SUV, and my first "American" car in years. Having an SUV has been so helpful during the winter. Lately I feel as if the car is starting to fall apart. At 26,000 miles the transmission slips when cold; service has not resolved the problem. When I brought it in for the last service they found a number of items wrong with the car and kept the car all day. I've always driven my Hondas and Toyotas over 100,000 miles; I certainly don't have the confidence in this vehicle's reliability since I'm already having major mechanical problems. I'll never go without an SUV again, will stick to the imports though.

Let's see, where do I begin. My '02 Laredo has the 6-cylinder engine, which fails to measure up to most other v-6's in its class. Ever since the day after I purchased this vehicle, there has been a pronounced brake shudder when I brake (which has been fixed twice), and the transmission likes to make a clunk noise when I stop at a stoplight. This is my second Jeep, and compared to my old '95 Laredo, this one sucks! After this year I will sell it for the measly trade-in value that its worth and buy a Toyota.

I purchased my GC used with 24K miles in Dec of 02. This is my second GC and I have had it for 15 months now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. I drove many other suvs before deciding on another jeep, but after driving a GC with the 4.7 I could not compromise on its power and handling.23-24 MPG on the country roads and 19 in town in coastal NC.My GC has select- trac and a rear vari-lock coupler to help move it through the tuff stuff. It locks both wheels in so they will turn together to provide positive rear traction. I take my GC off-road and i'm pleased where it has taken me and carried me back from.

Word to the wise do not ever buy one. I used to work for jeep and when I bought it wasn't sure if I was making the right choice. Then I realized that my Audi was not going to tow my snowmobiles and jetskis so I bought it thinking that since I work for jeep it will be easy for me to fix. Well, I will say I was thinking wrong. This car has broke down so many times I don't even know were to start. Starter rear diff, trans. The biggest of them all was when my wife was driving on the expressway and the seat frame snapped. When it snapped it fliped the seat back about 8 inches. Which almost caused a huge wreck.

I have had mine for just over two years, I had a couple of issues the worst is the steering system & suspension. My previous Jeep had the same problem with the Steering and Suspension issues these cars are not meant to be abused too much. I think Chrysler needs to improve this if it wants to stay with the competition. Toyota finally learned its lesson after a few years of screwing up on the 4 Runner, that the 2004 4 runner is actually better then the Grand Cherokee Laredo. Yes it's a little more expensive but it's worth it. If Chrysler cannot improve the quality of this model, especial when the new version comes out in 2005, then my next SUV will be a Toyota 4 Runner.

This is my fourth grand cherokee, I had a 93 limited V8,96 Limited V8, and 99 Limited V8. This is by far the fastest and most powerful. The engine just roars when you hit the gas. I have given many young kids a run for their money in my truck. After my jeep leaves them in the dust they come up to me and ask whats under the hood. I love the overall look of the truck. I added 17 chrome rims and a moldeld plastic brush guard for a cooler look. Only complaint is starter failed after 30,000 miles and spark plugs had to be changed.

I bought my 2002 JGC Limited with the 4.7L high output engine in December of 2001 and have regretted it ever since. 30 minutes after I drove it off the lot a hose came off, overheating the engine and stranding me. The Jeep has been at the dealership 6 times for brake problems and after over $2000 in repairs still have the same problem. The mirror memory has never worked, has to be set every time vehicle is started. It likes to die at stop lights for no apparent reason and after a $1200 "tune-up" at the Dealer and given a clean bill of health continues to do so. The starter has failed and been in the shop twice and recently started failing again.

My wife drove Towncars. We considered every 4dr sedan that caught our eye priced under $31,000. Wanted comfort, styling and performance. We were about to give up, when at a dealership I opened the door to a Grand Cherokee and asked my wife to get behind the wheel. She sat down in the most comfortable seat since her Towncar! Surprised the heck out of her! We then took it for a long test drive and we fell in love with it. The dealership also had a magazine with testimonials of owners with 2 and 300,000 miles on their Jeeps. That night, we bought a loaded 2002 Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD V-8!

There's a reason you see so many JGC's in Colorado. They work well in the city, cruise comfortable on the highway at 90 mph, but they excel off- road. Off-road capabilities place it in an elite class including the Land Cruiser, the Range Rover and G-wagon. I have had mine for a year and have not had a reason to go back to the dealer other than for oil changes, tire rotations, and adding additional skid plates.

Such a shame because aside from the numberous recalls on the other jeeps I had no problems. This one I have had the fuel pump replaced twice. I had to have the entire bottom of the car removed because of a loss bolt? Or that is what they tell me the loud noise was. I would think twice before buying a jeep. I am actually looking into getting rid of this and getting a reliable car.

Second jeep I buy. I live in Colorado so I do go off road often (driving in a graded dirt road is not going off road so I really mean it). Last March we got a big winter storm that put 4 feet of snow (yes like in 48 inches) in my driveway and I was able to drive out the next day. The guy with the F350 superduty got stuck, the Explorers were hopeless, the guy in the 4 Runner couldn't make it and the snow plow broke the blade trying to follow me (no exageration). The JGC is not perfect but as long as I live where I live I will keep Jeeping.

Jeep is noted for recalls and this one has had a few already. While I love the apparent fit and finish, there are obvious design flaws in Jeeps year after year. Certainly overpriced when optioned out. I think I'll find a more affordable vehicle when this one wears out. If you own one for just a couple of years, you may avoid the expensive repairs, but for long-timers like me, they will get you well before 75,000 miles.

Two times for paint peeling off the driver door. The back leather seat actually chipped away. The outside passenger mirror actually had a hairline crack in it. The oil pressure indicator had to be replaced. This is my first and only Jeep. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER ONE AGAIN. I cant believe it paid 35+ for this piece of YEA! My initial impressions of my Jeep where quickly changed to those of regret and hopes that I was in some sort of bad dream but it really was a nightmare. My Jeep has 17000 miles on it , the brakes are in need of being replaced for the third time due to some sort of recall problems. The engine light has needed to be reset nine times, the gas tank has been replaced due to leaks, and as I write this the engine light is on again.. Chrysler said there are 400 things that can make the light come on but they cant find the problem but they refuse to replace or buyback this poor excuse of an SUV.. I would not recommend this vehicle to my worst enemy.

I've had my Jeep for nearly a year now without a single problem. It's my third Jeep product and by far the best. The ONLY down side to the current Jeep line is the blandness of the dash. If more of the brushed aluminum was used throughout (rather than just around the radio), it'd be a better lookin' interior.

I have owned 3 grand Cherokees and I have to say the WJ (99-04) is by far the smoothest I have owned. The ZJ (93- 98) that I owned where nice as well. I recommend to anyone that buys a Grand Cherokee to get the V-8 the difference in MPG is barley noticeable. The I-6 is a good engine but makes noise at idle and doesn't have the snap of the line. The H.O. V-8 is very strong. My current MPG is 16 City 23 Highway. Quadra-drive works great off road and in snow. Off pavement ride is by far the best I have experienced. If you but one take it off road. Will buy a 4th

Owner of two jeeps, a sport and Laredo. I have over 30,000 miles the 2002 Laredo and 165,000 on the 1996 sport. Happy to say that I have had no major problems with either jeep. Once the engine light stayed on for two days and then went out on its own on the Laredo. Since the light generally has to do with polution control sensers I have not had it check out. Some of these problems people complain about seem to be petty. Keep on Jeeping.

I think the my Jeep Grand Cherokee is fantastic. I test drove a 4runner, Explorer, and a Montero Sport, and the Jeep blows them away. Great ride. Very comfortable. Since I've bought mine, 3 of my friends have bought one b/c of how great mine is.

Sorry I rushed into this purchase

The V-6 is too sluggish getting on freeways, no pickup. Heater on floor level on either driver/passenger side virtually gives off no heat in very cold conditions. A very loud ticking noise at idle from under hood, dealer says it is normal, live with it! Chrysler advised me yesterday to get a second opinion at another dealer. Huge gas guzzler, costs $34-38 to fill up. Snow gets all over front seats from roof top when I open doors to start car. Uncomfortable radio controls in steering wheel causing aches in hands from repetative use. Driver rear view mirror doesn't heat up as quickly as the passenger mirror. .

Great SUV!! I recommend it to anyone! Great value for the money! Bought it new and now have 12,000 miles on it. No problems with it at all. I've taken it to the scheduled maintenance appointments and that's it. I bought it while the 7/100,000 was still standard which I'm happy about because it gives me a piece of mind. Rides great and I get 18-19 mpg in mixed driving and about 23 mpg on the highway. I have all options except sunroof and heated seats. Looks great and the inline 6 has enough power for what I need. (I don't tow anything) I plan on keeping this car for a loooooooong time.

I already own a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee and should have known better - I bought a 2002 and wished I could relive the day. This car has had 3 recalls, we cannot get the air conditioning to work (it will not cool) though the manufacturer says it is ok. The transmission locked up and had to be replaced (less than 6 months old), and now the replacement is slipping. Please spend your money elsewhere - this one has been a disaster.

Run away from this GREEDY manufacturer!

Another disappointed Daimler-Chrysler buyer get's the shaft! From day one corporate has been the worst when it came to getting things resolved. The care for customer is nonexistent and the attention to quality leaves much to be desired. Do yourself a favor and save yourself many ulcers and headaches, forget the Daimler-Chrysler lineup until they can get their act together. Boosting the corporate bottom line is their primary concern while deleting 26,000 jobs and refurbishing top-level executive offices. Don't reward the crooks like so many of us have already done due to poor research, here's your warning.

For the love of God, buy something else!

Where to start?! I have had nothing but problems in 2 years of ownership. Loud dashboard rattles and vibration, only to be told "that's what the radio volume is for." Speaking of the radio, I've had 2 of them stop working completely. My stearing column had to be replaced because of loud "crack" that it made on left hand turns, and now the new column is doing the same thing. This time, rather than replace the column, the dealer claims it is "normal." My heated seat stopped working, my seatbelts no longer retract, and I've had the brakes replaced due to a recall. I'm trading it in for a 4Runner this week, and NEVER buying Jeep again.

High end features such as rain sensing wipers and tire air pressure readouts make for safer and less worrisome driving. Luxury truck features at blue collar price. Sure footed. Reasonable gas mileage you really look into the long term averages, the Jeep as an off road capable SUV, averages over 16mpg and doesn't mind 87 octane. It accelerates better than most of the other mid sized trucks and can tolerate 80 mph with 4wd operating. At $37k this is a well equipped, very functional vehicle that in my experience, has not presented any reliability issues.

DO NOT BUY a Jeep. 3 recalls, in the 1st year. Head gasket is leaking oil, The dealers service advisor calls it, "sweating", and states that it is normal. Took me to see another Jeep, and said that this is normal, and acceptable. Seems to me that DC has a quality control problem. Will not be keeping after lease expires. Too bad, it is a beautiful vehicle, with crappy quality

I've never owned anything other than Jeeps. I've owned a '98, '99 and 2001 Grand Chrokee. From day 1, I have a leaky sunroof, speakers (Gold Series) that crackle, an AC and overhead indicator light that does not work, memory seating for 2 that does not remember what the settings that are saved, balding Michelin tires after only 18000 miles, an an engine light that kept coming on (bad O2 sensor - replaced). On a side note, I really wanted to mention that if you live in Southern California, AVIOD Glendale Star Chrylser Jeep. 90% of their staff is the epitome of the sleazy, heartless car salesman. The Grand Cherokee is what a real SUV should be like. Excellent balance of features, reasonable price, all the powers you might need, fine, yet just plain tuff. Not a vehicle for everybody. This is a man's vehicle. Rugged, strong, fast, with a can do anything and drive over you attitude. If you want an economic vehicle go for the toys SUVÂ’s like the RAV4, Escape; or a minivan with a SUV look like the Pilot or MDX (off course, don't go off road cause they're too fragile). If you you want the real thing, thereÂ’s nothing like a Jeep. The first one and still the best 4 by 4 period.

Moving from a cadiliac eldorado, Ride is confortable and visablitiy is great. Drives much smoother than Fords SUV's. Infinity sound system could use a sub-wover. Air condition is by far not cool enough. Lots of complaints about A/C also could definetly use rear vents like every other SUV. Other than that very fun to drive Quada Track is very responsive as well. Tried my hardest to get wheels to break and could not. Locking gas cap could be nice as well.

I'm somewhat of a newcomer into the world of Jeep. However, after test driving the Grand Cherokee Laredo, my idea of Jeep changed drastically. For a mid-size SUV, it rides surprisingly smooth. Acceleration is decent with the 4.0L 6 and the interior features are convenient. While its still extremely new, I can say this vehicle is solid in terms of assembly. Let it snow and where are the trails?

Probablly the best domestic mid sized SUV on the market. Unfortunetly Jeep conintues to utilize antiquated motor designs poor quality single caliper brakes that are too small for the truck. Even the transmission "bangs" into reverse or drive every time it's engaged. Fit and finish is fine and the interior is much more comfortable than most imported SUVs. The stereo system is supurb. But I'd much rather have the ability to brake and change gears than the added creature comforts Jeep adds. Replaced the front brake rotors at only 7k miles.

This is our second Jeep Grand Cherokee. The first was really great and relatively trouble free. This one has been in the shop 7 times for the air conditioner. At first, it did not work at all. After 7 tries, it works, sort of. I live in a hot area and you have to run it on high all of the time. The dealer originally said the air from the vents should be at 38 degrees. They have now changed their minds and say that 44 to 50 is acceptable. The dealer says this is as good as it gets now. If you live in a hot place, don't buy a 2002 JGC. Otherwise it is a fine car.

This 4x4 Jeep is fun to drive if the front end is in front. If you ever need extra adrinaline in your life you can occasionally spin a tire or two (only in 2wd) and if you're lucky, fish tail it in the rain. The reliability could be better. I purchased a 6 cyl 4WD JGC Laredo last year - I sold it with 17,500 miles on it. Nothing but problems, front brake rotors had to be resurfaced twice, fuel pump had to be replaced, passenger electric window motor went out, etc... Serious defects with a vehicle that cost $28,000. I also have a toyota tacoma - the exception being that this vehicle has 152,000 miles on it and still going strong. Until Jeep fixes these quality defects - I would be very hesitant when buying another Jeep vehicle - just talk with others who have owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I love this vehicle. It is quiet, rides great, comfortable, and has great performance and fuel economy. I am averageing 18.7 MPG. We drove a lot of vehicles before we decided to purchase the jeep. We drove a Trailblazer, Durango, Explorer. For just over $29,000.00 MSRP with Leather, V-8, Dual Power seats, Power windows and lock, AM/FM CD Cassette, and much more. Any thing from GMC, Ford, Chevy with the same option was $4000-$7000 more. The jeep is more responsive and performs better than the other vehicles. It rides better than the Durango or Liberty. The 5 speed auto-transmission and V-8 work great with each other. Before you buy anything else go drive one of these.

I would love to buy a new Jeep if only they would start offering the manual transmission again. Mine is a '94, the last year they offered the standard. It now has 103,000 miles on it, still has the original clutch, and runs great...it is a real workhorse. I still love it so much I won't give it up. Now that it's getting older it does cost a lot to maintain, but it has been very reliable all these years. Only once did I get stranded...when the water pump went. If Jeep ever starts offering the JGC with standard trans again I will definitely buy one!

If there was one thing I hope a reader will get from this it would be to test drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I thought these things would be loud and drive like a tank. Wrong. My Jeep drives more like a Cadillac and I can see the road so well. I feel much safer and my kids love the looks. I do regular maintenance and besides that its worry free. Thank you Chrysler Jeep of Tuscaloosa, you helped me make the best auto purchase of my life!

I searched the gammet for my newest SUV and researched all choices extensively. I've heard a few bad things about the Grand Cherokee, and about the others. One thing I've learned is not to believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. I know why JEEP is the leader in the industry. I have really enjoyed my trouble free 20,000 miles. I can see why 65% JEEP buyers are repeat.

This is my second JGC. My first a 96 limited. I traded it in for a 02 larado sport after 116,000 no problem miles. I got the 4.0 6 to save on gas and found I did not need all the stuff on the limited. So far a good move on my part. My mpg is better and so is the ride. The leather seats are better but do not adj as much. After 1,000 mi break in I toook it off road(dirt road w/washbord) and found the select track more fun than the all the time four wheel dtive I had before.

I spent countless hours researching to find what I thought would be my best bet in the SUV market. I was a little bit concerned about the Jeep's reliability based on some write-ups I had viewed. Well let me tell you, when preventive maintenance i.e. oil change, rotate tires etc. is kept up, the Jeep will be there when it counts. I will tell anyone, before you buy, give a Jeep a try. It will be the best move you've ever made regarding a vehicle purchase.

Am testing driving a Laredo this week in anticipation of trading my 99 Durango SLT - both are 2WD models. Laredo has far less blind spots, smoother handling (less truck feel),shorter turn ratio (nice), V6 engine peppier than the large V8- averaging 4 miles more a gallon (18.3) than the Durango, seats material and fabric is more comfortable. Have added 6 features on this model vs 3 take- aways from Durango (3rd bench seat, fold-down rear armrest and some cup holders).

This is my 3rd Jeep and I have no problems with it. I do suggest keeping up the maintenance on it. Like with anything you buy, if you take the care in to car doctor on the scheduled visit's you will get great performance out it. You cant just drive and drive and expect any vehicle to not ever need some type of up keep maintenance. I love the Jeeps and would not think of buying anything else.

Coming to the end of a 3yr lease on a 1999 Grand Cherokee. Here are some of the lowlights of my last 3yrs. Doorlocks went out twice,1st year and again in the last 6 mos. . Drivers seat weld broke. Mickey mouse plastic trim shows much wear . Trasmission occasionally slips. No guts at all. All my driving was onroad, I couldn't imagine taking this wimpy POS offroad. I would absolutely never buy or lease another Daimler-Chrysler product ever again. Just a terrible product! Good luck to anybody who would buy one of these in any year. Every other Grand Cherokee owner I've spoken to has had a similar experience

Had JGCL V8 for 1 and half years. 36000 miles. Repeated mechanical problems, some which were replaced identically 3 or 4 times. Chrysler is taking back the vehicle. For $38K vehicle, it should not fall apart so quickly. Pitty since it is a beautifull looking vehicle and has nice interior amenities (granted, not as many as others, but quite ergonomic and functional).

Won't be buying when the lease is over.

We will be returning our Jeep when the lease is over. The ride is stiff, even for an SUV. The front seats are uncomfortable for any trip longer than an hour. Front seats are narrow and never seem to hit us in the right spots no matter how many ways we adjust them. Visibility is so-so with the narrow front windshield and wide a-pillars.

The Jeep to me is a Die-Hard SUV that seems to have the power and luxury that most SUV's just seem to lack. Even though the new Trailblazer that Chevy came out with has 270 horsepower, the Jeep just felt like it would leave it in the dust. Plus, the interior of the Chevy is just too tinny to me.

This vehicle is an odd and frustrating mix of good and bad qualities. The good: The styling (interior and exterior), ride and options are nice. It is impressive off road, and that is a Jeep. The Bad: Certain mechancial systems are simply flawed, like the front break system, the steering system and possibly the transmission on some units. You'll get to know the service guys.

I purchased a 2001 jeep and went to trade it in yesterday (after 6 months of owning) and the dealership said it is only worth $17,500. Since I paid $25,000 6 months ago, what a loss!! It has been in the shop 8 times. Key sticks in ignition, power steering pump was replaced twice. Then 2 days ago the whole thing shut down and stalled. The closest dealership replaced gaskets and sensors. Why all these things happen with a brand new suv with 10,000 miles is beyond me.

It looks great and is fun to drive when it is working but that is not very often. I have had mine in the shop (all covered under warranty) 6 times in the first 9 mo. with problems from a leak in the fire wall that let rain water flood in to the drivers area to the transmission jerking every 10-15 sec at highway speeds.

In spite of questionable reliability of the JGC, mine has performed very well. My only complaints: on very hot days, the air conditioner does not seem to keep the interior as cool as other vehicles that I have owned (i.e. Toyota 4-Runner). Also the vehicle is louder than previously owned vehicles. It is, however, much more powerful and comfortable than any other SUV that I know of in its class AND I can pull my 25 foot trailer in the Colorado Rocie Mountains without any problem!
