#1 check trans fluid. Pull dipstick and wipe on white paper towel. If fluid is black or otherwise not red, avoid the car because it needs a new torque converter. That is expensive. Otherwise, it is a comfortable, easy to drive car. Transmission was replaced, cost about double that for an American car. Power steering pump then failed and was replaced. Fluid leakage then increased and power steering rack had to be replaced. I am not very pleased with this car. It is expensive to maintain, much worse than expected

You may want to consider buying a new tranny the same day you buy this van. Alternator/battery as well. I have 228000 on this van. It has been good overall but is now on the 3rd transmission and 2nd alternator. Gas gauge and temp gauges are all messed up. They bounce around and are never correct. Certainly, I have 228000 miles and you can't expect perfection but it seems that when things go wrong, they are always expensive things...4K per tranny and over 500 for alternator. I do love the comfort and cargo space. Hoping that I get another 100K on the van and than I will sell.

Its not true, this is NOT the best minivan ever! I purchased it used at 85k, and at 175k the transmission is slipping. I would have hoped for another 100k, but not so. Already time to junk it. My 1964 Plymouth is a better car than this piece of junk. Aside from the transmission issue, the automatic doors have been a pain since day one. My dogs were letting themselves out in parking lots, the doors now mysteriously open and close on their own. One opens and just WILL NOT CLOSE. I need to muscle it closed, not easy. Before the tranny went I needed to replace the alternator (& battery), more than FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS because it took half a day for my mechanic to get it out!! This is unacceptable to me. I should be able to replace that myself if I want to. Not possible with Honda, you will pay through the nose to repair this van, and then the transmission will die, so DON'T BUY IT. Just bought an '02 Chrysler, going back to my roots. :-)

I am the original owner of a 2002 Honda Odyssey van. On 11/07/2014, van failed to accelerate and the malfunction indicator was on. I had van towed to the local Honda dealership. Service dept at the dealership said the ECL code was P0730. They said transmission needs to be replaced. The approximate failure mileage on van was 62000. I had to pay around $3500 for having the dealer rebuilt the transmission. I had the Service Advisor take photos of the damaged transmission. Service Advisor told me that the 3rd gear has heat discoloration & is burned up. In addition he said, clutches were burnt up. Root cause was heat buildup in transmission. Honda refused any help with the repair cost!

Tranny has been slipping for 18 months. Dealer wants $4K- $5k. Independent tranny shop and one Honda salesperson say welcome to the world of Odyssey. Other than tranny and few minor electrical issues, I like the van. Front end too low. Minnesota snow breaks the plastic. UPDATE- We ended up getting a new tranny ($3,200) two months after my original review. Fifteen months later we had catastrophic engine problems and put the car down. Since then a friend bought a used 2006 Odyssey. Tranny died four months later. We bought a 2015 Sienna and love it.

I really enjoy DRIVING this van and I really drive it very hard for a minivan. What sold me was the sporty driving it provides. If you like a soft cushy ride with no driver feedback from the steering and suspension, then this van is NOT for you. If you like power, agility and sporty car like feel and ride, then you'll be right at home behind the wheel. I travel WV and all I'll say is it will hang a curve. * VAN: The back windows quit working, probably cause I never open them and are stuck, other than that everything still works inside as it should. The van still looks very good inside and out. Did the 100K service at 200k but had to replace the A/C compressor at 240k. continued belo

I have had my Odyssey since 2006. I loved it until things began to go wrong (of course, after the "certified" warranty ran out). It's got 135,000 miles and in addition to regular maintenance (including the timing belt) I have had to replace all three engine mounts, shocks and the transmission (not at Honda). I called Honda and they said the transmission recall work had been performed before I purchased the vehicle so there was nothing they could do. I bought a Honda because I thought I would be able to drive it forever. Simply not so. Very disappointed and will not purchase another Honda. It's comfortable and great for passengers, but lots of road noise.

I have 157,000 miles and the car is still very reliable. Only a couple of very minor repairs over its lifetime. Transmission still going strong (except for a pressure switch < $150 that needed to be replaced). Burns no oil. Great acceleration. Better gas mileage than most. Sliding doors are a poor design and stick often.

Bought my Odyssey new in 2001. Has served us well. No Major problems. Two recalls and two warranty items. Now have 85,000. I use it mainly to haul stuff like 4x8 sheets of plywood, framing lumber and other building materials. Also, it holds a John Deere 100 series lawn tractor. Home Depot couldn't believe it. Great on vacations for carrying all the stuff we need. Plus friends. Transmission is excellent. Need to do recall on gear lubrication and change transmission oil regularly to get longevity. Considering a 2011 now.

The problem keeps coming back. My brother took his van for the recall, "got fixed". A week ago his van broke and he will fixed the transmission for the 3 time. My husband got me an Odyssey a month ago and I didn't want to exchange it because of the bad reputation it has. I was happy with my Nissan Quest it never gave me any problem for the 6 yrs that I own it. I keep the Odyssey because of the 4 doors, it has giving me some problems when I drive it, it loses power and one of the motor lights is now on. It's not a surprise, the mechanic says the transmission needs to be fixed. I'll not be surprise to hear their is a class action against Honda. I'm selling mine, and won't be buying Hondas.

We purchased this vehicle used with 26k miles. Here have been the problems since: Transmission replaced at 48k by dealer Passenger side window regulator replaced Sliding doors constantly malfunctioning Front driver's seat jammed Annoying rattling coming from unknown source (dealer couldn't locate either) Front and rear lighter outlets dislodged (not from abuse, from poor design) Transmission being replaced FOR 2nd TIME at 105k In case you didn't catch it the transmission is being replaced for the second time!!

This van has been a terrible disappointment for us. There are so many small problems and a number of really big ones. The transmission is simply junk and Honda cannot fix it. Their rebuilt transmissions are no better. Parts are extremely expensive, more than my BMW. I had a 1992 Prelude which was great but apparently Honda has gone the way of Ford in terms of reliability. Time to try one of the Korean makers.

We bought the van new and after about 13 months noticed a noise in the transmission. The local dealer where we purchased the van replaced the transmission without a problem under warranty. We now have 158,000 miles and no problems. The van has served us well despite the minor issues stated in other posts such as sticky sliding doors in cold, wet weather and very hot weather. A light coating of silicone on the weatherstripping has always helped. The only other issue we have had is the remote headphones for the entertainment system stopped working at about 125,000 miles. Other than these issues we have been pleased with the van.

I just found out that the transmission in this van is bad at 110,000 miles. Honda dealer wanted $5500 to repair with a rebuilt transmission. They also told me the front engine mount is collapsed. The total repair bill to fix everything and have the 105,000 mile service done is $7,400! After looking at these other reviews I now see I bought a vehicle that is poor quality. I have owned Honda vehicles for the past 15 years. However, this will be the last.

All went well with this van until 105,000 mi. At which point transmission began to slip and misfire. Disappointed with dealership and Honda support in light of class action suit awarded to van owners. Honda never stepped up to the plate with obvious faulty transmission design. Also, bushings / bearings and struts need replacement according to 3 different opinions. Cost for new transmission and steering suspension problem $6000.00 dealer told me you get 150k miles out these w/o major problems.

We bought our van used in '04 w/ only 12,000 miles on it. Loved the van for 5 years and paid it off. Planned to keep it for a good long time, when without much warning the transmission went at only 85,500. We serviced our vehicle at the dealer faithfully and we towed it there for assistance. They said a new transmission would be almost 4,000 and continued to tell me about all of the transmission issues Honda has been having with their vehicles. We were extremely disappointed and decided to trade the car in for a Hyundai w/a 10 yr. powertrain warranty. Like many of the other customer reviews I've read...we too have lost our faith in Honda's quality.

After having a troublefree Honda 1990 Accord for 240,000 miles, my expectations were high for the Odyssey. I was initially worried about 2 things: Honda bragged that the Odyssey was built on an Accord chassis (but weighs half-again as much!), and the automatic side doors (always takes a few years for any new mechanical device to get the bugs out). Sure enough: balky sliding doors that frequently freeze shut in wet, freezing weather. Several $1000+ repairs: shocks, fuel system, and now at 132,000 miles, transmission. Presumably because they have so many going out, they recently bumped the transmission remanufactured price by about $1000 (making money off their poor workmanship?).

Do NOT buy this car! Too much cheap interior plastic that peels off, plastic bumper covers that scratch when you look cross-eyed at them. Electric doors that open/close when they want, not when you want. Un-padded carpeting will kill your knees when putting luggage in the back. Folding rear seat hooks stick out of sides and eliminate 4 inches of space for sliding things in. And a transmission that only lasts 120,000 miles!

I love my Odyssey, but it started having transmission problems within 12k miles. I went to have the transmission replaced in Boise after moving (The dealer in Los Angeles told me it was under warranty)and Boise refused. Later Honda corporate refused the repair. So much for a "warranty". I will never buy from Honda again. Given the initial price and subsequent repairs/tires, I would say a 2002 Odyssey isn't worth the price to have it junked. Given the perpetual check engine light and TCS light, I have a mind to abandon it at Honda Corp.

This is our 2nd odyssey since 2000. We have been very happy with our Honda van. The only negative is that it is not very quiet on the road. I expected not to hear much road noise with this priced van. Should also have had backup sensors for the price. The entertainment package has given us no trouble and is still going strong after 71/2 years. You do have to put a new timing belt in at 105000 miles.

I just passed 116K on my 2002 Odyssey. Still on original engine and transmission. Not a fancy van by any means, but great for our family. My husband actually likes driving it almost as much as his Lexus LS. Considering it is a minivan, it has great handling and is very comfortable. Lots of cargo space. Mostly minor repair issues like batteries and the struts on the liftgate. Otherwise, a really solid car.

We just bought a 2002 Odyssey with 125,000 miles. The van can carry seven in comfort. The rear seat is best for kids, because of the narrow access. The power sliding doors ease ingress and egress. It can be hard to hear what someone is saying in the 3rd row because of road noise. Tires may help. The Odyssey has very good acceleration, even in hilly San Diego. The van handles very well for a vehicle this size. I would call it a sport van if such a thing exists. These models are known for transmission problems. I installed a transmission filter and cooler, and made sure the shift solenoid screens were clear. We get around 23 on the highway and 18 around town. I recommend this van.

Purchased new 11/2001. At the tranny recall they said it was ok and put additive in the fluid. All maintenance has been done on time including the $1750 timing belt / spark plugs at 100k miles. The transmission has always been funky, sometimes slips to 1st and you have to stay off the gas and slow down to get it going again. While the tranny is junk, it still works and it's the original one. No other problems whatsoever. F/R break pads replaced only once, tires replaced only once and are probably good for another 20k. I find that when the trans gets more finicky, if I run it hard (floor it 0 to 60mph+), it then works without major issue for another couple weeks.

We bought this van early in 07 with between 70 and 80,000 miles. It was really clean and nice. It drives and handles nice. However just a couple weeks ago while driving on the highway the transmission started acting up. We took it in to get checked out and now we have to rebuild the transmission and hand over another 3 thousand dollars. I was very disappointed -definitely not what I expected from a Honda and for the year, mileage and price we paid for it, this should not be happening. Only other complaint is the sliding doors. They are slow and can't be stopped midway. If the electric is off for some reason or the doors are stuck they are very, very hard to operate.

I purchased new back in Jan. 2002 and have faithfully followed the necessary scheduled maintenance. But guess what, with only 41200 miles, the transmission needs to be rebuilt. The check engine light came on and the code came up p0730 "incorrect gear ratio". Dealer told me that there is no extended warranty, as assumed by many people. The extended warranty applies only to 1999-2001 odyssey. The standard 3 year/36000 miles applies to my case which I no longer qualify. Dealer was quoting me $5000 to $6000 for a new transmission. I brought it to AAMCO and grudgingly handed over $3004 to rebuild transmission with a 12 months warranty. Again, what happen to Honda quality?!

I have owned this van for 4 yrs after buying it from my mother-in-law. Somebody backed into the van, then pulled forward and backed into it again, and the only problem I have with paint is some peeling of clear cover on the driver's door probably due to shoddy repair because the rest of the van is perfect. I have NEVER had a problem with the transmission and have never been stranded while driving a Honda. While highway driving and the wind is in the right direction, there is a howl that would make a dog cry. The horn is nice and LOUD and shrill (especially nice when people pull out in front of you and their window is down).

I have three cars with over 120,000 miles and the Honda Odyssey has been the most expensive to maintain in the past two years; however, it has been the car we have put the most miles on. We recently replaced the alternator and it seems to eat through brake pads, but no major major problems (like tranny). Many of our repairs in the past year are first time ever fixes. Very nice van still that we will continue to drive.

Bought a 2002 Odyssey.Packed well for hurricane evacuations; great space for 5 dogs,2 cats, 2 birds with supplies; however, very disappointed. Early on, at 3000 miles the engine block cracked and was replaced ; twice the driver rear window power motors stopped working and almost as soon as the extended warranty was out, the other window motor quit working. Seat belt replaced; transmission went out at 70,000; lots of road noise, driver door lock broke and was replaced with a lock not compatible to key for other door locks;rubber bumpers for sliding doors have completely MELTED off the hinge. Am looking at other options for a vehicle. Mileage steady 20/23; city/hwy.

The 2002 Honda Odyssey is an ideal family car and ours has managed to ferry us on many memorable trips. When it's not undergoing repair, we're happy with almost every aspect of the van. However, almost alone among Hondas, this particular model has had persistent problems with its automatic transmission. For us, the problem has recurred with EACH transmission installed to replace the original equipment. The initial transmission was the subject of a national recall (Honda Service Bulletin 04-021). We have also replaced the original tranny THREE times. No kidding!! We're very disappointed.

Just got an estimate from the dealer for a new transmission in the amount of $ 5000 and that's with the old PCM (the computer module that dictates how the transmission shifts). It's another $1200 for a new PCM that will supposedly increase the life of these transmissions. This car is only 6 years old. The transmission should last longer in my opinion. I bought Honda because I thought they built reliable cars. This was a disappointment and I will no doubt look to other makes.

Bought new Feb 2002 - Took to dealer twice in Oct 2005 for transmission slipping at 35-40 mph. Dealer couldn't find problem. After evacuating from WILMA, transmission fails 6 hrs from home in Nov 05. Local dealer replaces under extended warranty (54,000 miles). Similar problems come back in Jan 07. Dealer finds nothing first two tries. - In Dec 07 dealer reports transmission is bad and needs to be replaced. Covered under extended warranty. (89,500 miles). Feb 08 extended warranty expires - Apr 08 problems resurface. May 08 dealer reports transmission bad and needs to be replaced. Covered under Honda parts warranty (1 yr). I bought our Odyssey to replace a Nissan Pathfinder after my second son was born & we realized that the SUV was not going to cut it space-wise. We needed something that could pull our pop-up and lug all the things that a typical family hauls around for traveling together. So far the van has been excellent with no major problems and returns excellent gas mileage in comparison to our old vehicle. On one extended trip we averaged between 26 & 28 mpg. Short trips return around 18.5, which is about what our SUV got on the highway. The van drives well and at 240 hp, it has plenty of guts for merging, passing, and towing. Not as cool as my previous sports cars, but not bad and really handy.

Bought this 02 Odyssey during mid 2002. Roomy, great V6 engine, everything was perfect. Great family vehicle for a few years until the transmission went out on us. It took us a couple of months argueing to get our transmission replaced as the dealer refused too since our warranty was "expired". Finally our transmission was replaced since the recall has been issued. Also wind noise was another problem. When cruising in highway speeds. Gas mileage was average. Overall this van is not that bad until the transmission problem kicked in.

We have had our Odyssey 5 years next month and covered over 45,000 trouble free miles. The only issues we've had is one of the tailgate struts failed (I replaced it myself costing $30) and we're on our 3rd set of tires (they only seem to last 20k or so). Other than that, no problems. We've had the recall on the tranny done and (knock on wood) no issues with the transmission so far. We have been very pleased with the van. It's been great as a school bus (it's primary role) and great for family vacations. We have no problem loading up the van with kids, dogs and luggage and then plowing up mountain roads at 80+ mph with both AC units going. We average 18 mpg around town and 21 on trips.

We bought this when our children were 1 and 3. They are now 5 and 7 and we have never regretted this purchase. We have had some weird problems with it, such as the driver's seat belt coming unattached from the floor but the dealership fixed it without charge and checked all the other seatbelts. They were all loose at the floor level. The paint is chipping a bit around the doors and some tiny rust spots are starting to appear. Considering that we live in an area that rarely sees snow (thus no salt or sand on the road), this concerns us. Overall, though, this is the best car decision we've ever made. Even trips of over 1,000 miles are easy on the kids it's so comfortable.

Purchased this van as used at 37k right off factory warranty expires. Dealer recommanded "extended" warranty but i owed other hondas and did not think i needed one. Now i kinda regret it. About a day after the purchase, i noticed a high pitch noise coming from somewhere in engine bay. Took it to the dealer and they said it is Bad tranny and it needs to be replaced. Fortunately, Honda covered it by honda's good will warranty. Bad thing was dealer did not put enought tranny oil and i had to go back to get it fixed. 2 weeks later. ball bearing on left front went out. spent $200 to fix it. Since it has been about 20,000 miles, and so far no problem.. well hope it would last^^

Disappointed with highway mileage, getting 21 consistantly, thought 25 would be realistic. The pivot point on the seats reclining feels like someone is stuffing a pillow into your lower back, some like some don't. Road noise is higher than expected, especially on a windy day. Not wind leaks but wind travelling around the vehicle, not as quiet as the 98 Plymouth Voyager we had. Some of the road noise could be the tires that were on the vehicle when purchased, planning on changing those. Transmission does a lot of shifting around 35 - 40 like it's not sure what gear to be in.

The first transmission went out at 36,600 miles. Honda installed a new Honda remanufacturered transmission with another 36,000 mile warranty. Approximately 3000 miles later the transmission went out again. Now my lease is almost up and the 3rd transmission is starting to slip again. The dealer said that Honda is aware that they have problems with the transmissions for this year so I was shocked it was in the top 10 used car list. Prior to this van I had a Toyota Sienna van and I liked that van way more than this one. It had a much better ride by alot and I never had any mechanical problems. The Honda has a very tight feel and every bump jars you. I was very dissatisfied.

Had the vehicle a few months and started having tranny problems (not catching going from 2nd to 3rd gear). This model (and similar Honda vehicles) have a recall on the transmission...it has to have a kit installed or the tranny replaced. Other than that, we've been satisfied, it's very peppy compared to the Windstar I used to have. The engine is much quieter too, although, on the road it doesn't seem remarkably quiet.

I bought the Nav Model new and have only needed lube changes in 90k miles. The brakes are still good. The GPS is easy to use and very useful but has tricked me sometimes. I have few complaints but am thinking about a new Mini van now and dazzled by the high tech sizzle of the Quest but concerned about some of the negative reviews. But then this model of Ody has attracted far more complaints and I have had scant concern in the 90 k I have driven. My Ody drives like it is almost broken in and ready for more action but Oh!!! the Quest's sleak, sporty, gizmo laden, futuristic, earthbound space shuttle appeal quickens the heart of a true technofile. I hope I luck out and get as good as my Oddy.

I previously drove an Acord for 7 years before buying the van. I expected the same reliability. Boy,was I wrong. The sliding door gets jammed frequently. That started around 38,000 miles. The transmission is shot at 69,000 miles. Too bad because this will be my last Honda. Good luck to the new owners. Keep your fingers crossed that the transmission problems have been solved. Love the pick up and comfort.Love the roominess. Excellent gas mileage even loaded and with A/C on. Great A/C and great for cruising long distances. Mine had been all over the US & Canada. Had Trans problems @ 98,000 miles (can't really complain about that) had the extended warranty so they put brand new one in with no hesitation. Only real complaint is a whistling noise at about 90MPH, tap the down window button quick and it goes away. I'd consider another one but with the kids gone don't need that big of a vehicle. I bought this vehicle new, for my wife in November of 2001 the minivan has 27000 miles, and the transmission went bad had to be replaced, fortunately the warranty was still in force. The Honda had a recall for the transmission in July 2004 for a KIT OIL JET that was replaced. The transmission went bad in March 2005 and had to be replaced. The automatic climate control does not operate properly in full auto. The brakes make a clicking noise when you back up the car. I was given a flyer that this was normal for Hondas, later on the brake pads were replaced on 07/04

We've had the belt tensioner recalled, the transmission problem with the second gear fixed, a sliding door broken radio control on the steering fixed and now the warranty is up. 300 miles past and now the SRS system failed and we have to pay over $600 to fix it. Looks like I am not alone in my transmission woes. At 44k the trans is starting to jerk and pull at 50-60 MPH. Did the recall thing. Also, A/C is out and the dealership wants $150. Called Honda customer service and waiting to see what happens. I did get a free EGR valve, :-) and told I was given Honda's "Good Faith Deal". I guess they really see me coming. I'm slowly but surely learning, buy many thanks to the other reviewers for stepping up to the plate and sharing. Very good info. Like previous reviewers, beware after 36k miles. I bought this Odyssey because it is slightly bigger than the Sienna. BIG MISTAKE! Vibrate at around 40-60mph. Not tires. Balance new tires 3X. ALL dash lights come on intermittenly. Trac and engine lite stayed on. Cost $168 to replace an evap. After checking google, found out this van has 3 recalls, one has to do with 2nd gear. Honda advisor said, that should fix tranny problem. Had the Odyssey for 2 months, I don't trust this van on a long trip. Will get rid of it before I have to put lots of money into it since Honda will not warranty the tranny as they do on the 99-01 Odyssey (100K). Own Honda/Acura cars before, never any problems. Will buy another Toyota. Never had problems.

I've had my Odyssey for almost three years now and I regret I ever bought it. My wife wanted the Chrysler Town and Country and I convinced her that Chrysler had a bad reputation of making unreliable vehicles. But after all the problems we had with this Odyssey, I think we should have gotten the Chrysler instead – it might have been the same headaches but it would have been far cheaper after the rebates. We've had so many problems, from a failing transmission to recalls after recalls; tranny, pcm, etc. In addition, we've had so many noises and other problems that it not even funny -- trust me, we tried to laugh about it!

Purchased our first minivan a few weeks ago from a reputible Honda dealer. Had 39500 miles so we got the "certified honda warranty" good for 10yrs/100000 on the powertrain and 12months/12000 on everything else. About day 4 of owning we noticed a shimmy/whining in the front end when applying the brakes. Took to our Honda dealer and was told the brakes and rotors were replaced when the vehicle was certified. The brakes were shot. We were asked if when we drive, do we ride with our foot on the brake. NO ! They agreed to replace without a problem, and so far 700 miles later everything seems fine. No smells, smimmies, or whines from the front end. Overall we're VERY pleased thus far. Great ride !

dont be fooled by all the glowing reviews on this minivan. yes it has many features and comforts but so do other models and they come without all the issues that plague this vehicle. two main components of any automobile are engine, and transmission design flaws material defects etc. in these major components usually result in a constant repair battle for the life of the vehicle as is the case for the honda odyssey my tranny was replaced at 40k and then the 2nd tranny was pulled and inspected under a honda recall last summer. I just got another recall notice 11/04 reguarding more tranny issues. dont walk run far away from this honda. other failed components dvd screen, driver seat.

I love my Honda. It drives beautifully and handles well. I had two Plymouth Voyagers previously and drove one for 10 years. The Odyssey suspension is tighter that the Voyager and I had to get used the tha. It sure does handle well on the curves. I did have small problems with the interior such as plastic parts falling off which of course were fixed free. Also had a problem with the sliding door lock on the drivers side but other than that it has done well. Did have a recall recently to check the transmission which REALLY surprised me since that was one BIG reason why I chose Honda over the Dodge. Mine had nothing wrong with it though.

After putting up with various electrical anomalies, excessive road noise, and other issues, our Odyssey experienced sudden and total transmission failure at 37,000 miles. The dealer initially speculated that mice might have been dining on the wiring, not wanting to admit the chronic product defect plaguing these and other models since 1999. It is easy to see why Honda only warranties for 36,000 miles. We just traded it in on a Toyota taking a huge monetary loss in the process. After this experience will never, ever consider another Honda. And we run 6-8 cars typically buying a new one at least every other year.

Honda can't fix either of these things. Transmission went out a second time (supposedly they replaced it) when I had a van full of kids. They replaced the computer(due to the TCS and engine lights) and I'm still having problems. I have filed a Lemon lawsuit. The corporate office plays games. Over all pleased with the Honda. The customer support has been better than any other dealer I have worked with in the past. I do have an issue with the brake noise and the small arm rest. We have also replaced the windshield for the third time in less than 18 months. It seems that the aero dynamics pulls rocks into the windshield not over it. We are going to try a bug shield.

Better get the transmission cooler!

Yeah I know, the Odyssey has won all kinds of awards, but I am here to tell you they have problems. Mine is a 02 EX model with Navi. My tranny blew on I-75 in rural Georgia while I was cruising at 80 mph with my wife and two kids on board. The local dealer told me he had seen this before in both Accords and Odysseys where the tranny overheats and blows the fluid. Mine was covered under warranty and replaced after two weeks in the shop. The Honda dealer put in a rebuilt tranny. Honda eventually extended the warranty on the tranny to 10/100K from 3/35K. Also had problems with a door regulator, door seal and rear wiper. Look into a Toyota Sienna instead.

We've had our van for about 1 year. In that time it's been in the shop over 20 times. New struts, DVD player, seat belts, etc. Most recently we've learned that the intake manifold cover gasket was install "upside down." As a result, EGR and air intake ports are/were covered so the whole air/fuel mixture was messed up leading to a "multiple" cylinders failure. BTW: This problem also affects Pilots. So, we've now had the gasket changed but haven't seen an improvement. So many repair under warranty; what can we expect once the warranty has expired?

I have tried almost all of recent minivan available in the market. Odyssey and Windstar is so far are the best in my opinion. But still there are more advantage of Odyssey over Windstar, include its re-sale value, larger capacity, and I think in long term Honda is well known on their engine reliability and durability. However they can not beat the customer support offer by Ford at US.

This is a dream vehicle for anyone wanting a minivan. We have 4 children ages 11 months - 8 yrs old, and have used it around town and on long roadtrips (just returned from a 4,000 mile trip last week). It is easy to handle and was designed nicely to handle children and cargo. After using for a year and a half I still feel that it was a very good investment. The only item we thought we would not like were the power side doors. However, it turns out that we like them very much.

We've had this van for a year now and it's been fun to drive and reliable. We love the hooks in the back for grocery bags and the easiness of folding the rear chair into the floor. It drives like a car and has some real power to it! Interior quality is cheap. Within the first few months two of the arm rests had broken and the "handle bar" for lack of a better term that is located on the rear of the passenger seat broke off.

For a couple refusing to go the minivan route, we found the Oddessy to be the best in class when we purchased. Very roomy, handles great, nice acceleration, like the rear climate controls and seat warmers are cool (don't tell the kids). Great resale value too. The well in the back adds extra storage the other vans don't have and allows you to roll the seat back without emptying the "trunk". Overall I would clearly recommend this van over any other.

We bought a pre-owned w/ 16000 miles. It was in excellent condition, and with the added warranty periods(12/12 bumper2bumper, 100k powertrain) it was a much better value than buying brand new. The only issues we have noticed have been the steering wheel stereo controls went out(promptly replaced)and we are hearing a slight rattle from the sliding doors like maybe the control cables are not secured properly. Other than those two things we have absolutely no complaints. With the 240hp V6 and the responsive steering, I tell friends it's like driving a seven seat sports car. We love it.

Took it to a honda dealer to be fixed and they say they dont hear the rattle. Also I notice the gas tank makes swashy noises.

We bought the Odyssey after much thought and after looking at other makes. It has been a year now, and would never give it back. It rides very comfortably and handles great. I love the third row that folds flat and the second row captain seats. I am not thrilled about the power sliding doors, but have to admit they are convenient when you have your hands full and just push a button and door opens for you. Gas mileage is not impressive, but does better than previous SUV I had . Overall, I would recommend if you not only want a nice looking minivan, but one that rides very comfortably, handles great and of course you cant beat Honda reliability.

Nothing but trouble with the van and Honda. Sliding doors rattle and squeak, dash rattles and squeaks, windshield whistles at freeway speeds, gas sloshing in tank noise, brakes clunk when reversing direction (beware, Honda says it is normal for their vans. We drive minivans due to our family business and have a lot of experience with them: the Chrysler family (extreme mechanical problems; nice design). Windstar (nice van except for total engine failure), Siennas (on the small side, boring, boring did I say boring). I never thought I'd list performance as the reason to buy a van, but the Odyssey has it: 240 strong horses, excellent, intelligent 5-speed automatic and no fade disk brakes front and rear. Even the LX has everything you need as standard equipment. I would rate it a ten overall if it came with better tires.

My wife (4'10") wanted the power seat in the EX package. That forces you to take the power doors. We do a lot of pull up to the curb and drop the kids. There are a lot of times when the older kids try and open or close the door when the car is not in Park (car pool line). The doors beep and until they let you try again. The doors are a safety problem IMO. They are difficult to open in the case of an accident. (no power or car not in park and the kids can't get out) The doors are also difficult to open if the battery is dead. The doors can't be disabled because of motor drag. The simple climate system in the LX is more flexible in some situations.

I can't recommend the Honda Odyssey enought. I looked at all of them and their were ones with more toots and whistles but the reliability of Honda and the fold away 3rd row (which is great and so easy to do..alone)is fantastic. The DVD rntertainment system is also great and I love the cordless headsets that the kids can wear and listen to their music or movie and I still can enjoy mine. And the safety rating of the Odyssey is 5 stars DOn't bother with any other minivan, the Odyssey is the one and this is coming from someone who said "over my dead body will I ever get a minivan"

We purchased our 2002 Odyssey for the purpose of driving to the Yukon and Alaska with our family of four. We loaded up the van in late June 02 with the camping gear, dog and two ski boxes, heading west from Ottawa, Canada. The trip to the Yukon took us 10 days and on the AlCan highway showed how reliable and powerful this minivan is. In tough mountain driving nothing surpassed this van in performance. We cruised at 70 mph the whole way without a hitch. Highway mileage was very good, city mileage can be improved upon. 7 weeks and 18000 km (12,000 mi) later we returned home with the Odyssey running like a fine swiss watch. Exceeded our expectations.

The main concern is the latest issue with the transmission. After spending hours on the phone with the dealer and with American Honda Customer Service (and hours at the dealership's service department) being convinced that the Odyssey's transmission has no issues, my brother passed along several message boards with scores of complaints from Odyssey and Acura TL owners with the same transmission problem. The vast number of people with the same potentially dangerous issue that we are having, combined with Honda's insistance to look the other way, leads me to believe I'll look elsewhere for my next vehicle.

Of course Honda won't exchange the vehicle for one that is not damaged. My new goal is to make people aware of these types of issues. I am screwed. Very luxurious. Amazing room & versatility. Interior feels solid-many vans feel cheap. Have the EXL w/DVD-no issues w/ the sound system. Watch Jurrassic Park & you will believe! Lthr seats are comfy & seem durable. Magic seat is great. Center row very easy to get in/out. Pwr doors are great. Best looking van by far-looks like an Acura. The EX/L model with the DVD entertainment system is like shooting the kids with a tranquilizer gun. Total silence!! We purchased 2 extra sets of headphones for the back (4 total) and I can listen to country music in front and the kids can either put in a DVD or some crappy Rap CD that I don't have to listen to and they're happy...and so am I!!! Whoever thought up the ntertainment system was a genius. The fold down rear seat gets used all the time at the soccer fields. When it rains, the back hatch serves as a perfect cover. The only problem since buying the Odyssey is that we had to replace the climate control system.

After a great deal of research, we concluded that the Odyssey was simply the best value. To get the quality with any other minivan, one would need to spend an additional $10K. And you still wouldn't have the reliability of a Honda. The interior is plain, but I always found that more buttons mean more things to break. Further proof is how the Odysseys retain their value. At the time of our research, it would cost more to buy a used Odyssey than order a new one. I love my Odyssey and plan to drive it until the wheels fall off!!

As I turned in my 1999 Windstar to the Ford Dealership I started my lease at, I asked the General Manager "How do the engineers who designed the Windstar look themselves in the mirror every day, knowing that the Odyssey is on the road?" They asked me if I ever considered buying my Windstar off- lease, my answer was "have fun at the wholesale auction!" In truth, had I been able to get my hands on a '99 Odyssey, I never would have taken the Ford. Such is life. My EX-L is quiet, smooth and powerful. At 6'2/200, I have plenty of space in all but the rear seat, which is reserved for 2 kids anyway.

This is our first Japanese vehicle. All others have been GM. So far we are pleased with our purchase decision. The versatility of the vehicle has been out standing. The list of positives is very long and mirrors most other post. The negative are a little petty. Takes a little while to get use to the shift lever position and with a full tank of gas, you can hear the fuel and air pocket bang around in the fuel tank. We are looking forward to the resale value in four years.

After months on shopping for a reasonable price, finally purchased a 2002 Odyssey EX (NEW). On the way home, the engine light came on, returned to the dealer the next day and was told the transmission needed to be replaced. After frustrating discussions with the Dealer, eventually got a refund and refused to purchase from them again. Purchased another Odyssey online from a Dealer over 100 miles away and took delivery within 24 hours of purchase. LOVE this 2nd Odyssey with the EXCEPTION of a LOUD shifting noise it makes when you first start up the engine. Haven't read anyone else with this problem. Currently have a dealer looking into this.

Honda quality all around. Pleasand ride, slightly harsh and noisy on rough pavement, probably due to low profile tires, but no more than would be expected, and less exagerated than most vehicles.

Very, very nice vehicle! Honda really does make better vehicles than it's big 3 American contenders! I became interrested in Honda vehicles after my friend let me drive his Accord a few times. I was so impressed that I was determined that my next vehicle would be a Honda. And, it just happened that the Odyssey fit my needs very well.

We have had 7 vans over the years (6kids) and continue to buy them after we retired. Love them for travel. This is our second Honda van, the first was traded after 139,000 miles, because we wanted leather seats. Our old one still going strong at almost 200,000 miles with new owner. We have had all the vans, by big three, our town and country was the best until the Honda.

Just bought an '02 EX-LRES, and this is the best vehicle I've ever driven. All things considered, the Ody is pretty darn close to perfect: style, comfort, performance, room, safety and value. Nothing else comes close. I've owned three Honda Accords, and the interior design, fit and finish is very similar, only better. I don't understand any of the criticisms about the "cheap" interior or bad ergonomics. On the contrary, with leather, the interior is luxurious. And with the 8-way power driver's seat with lumbar support, if you can't feel comfortable in this van, then you better look for a custom-made vehicle.

We owned a Dodge and traded it in for the Odyssey. Our Dodge had electrical problems and was a complete nightmare ... we won't get into that! My wife and I wanted a van that we could grow into with our two small boys. I already own a 92 Accord EX L (200k miles and going) so I was familiar with how durable they are. We are thrilled with our new Odyssey EX L with DVD because of its control, power and comfort. Honda really did listen to their customers and produced a great van. Now I can sit back and watch moves with my kids while my wife drives without any worries. Thanks Edmunds.

After spending 7 weeks on the road an 18,000 km (11250 miles) this van drove effortlessly. Gas mileage on the highway was acceptable considering that we were driving at an average speed of 120 kmph (75mph). The engine's power and passing ability is simply the best and always had lots of power when you needed it. After returnin from Alaska, I am more impressed with it than before. This van is hard to beat!

What makes a vehicle a great one? It lives up to what it says in reality. It could be quality, reliability, comfortness, power, design functions, appearance, fuel economy, performance (all kinds), etc. This Odyssey is doing really well in almost all of the above characters, except the fuel economy, powertrain noise, and interior material quality. Overall, it's a great van with value though not perfect.

Best investment in a new vehicle. No dissaponments hear. The kids will love the dvd player and I can listen to cds at the same time. GREAT features all around. We just love this van. We traded in a Mazda MPV for the Honda and it's night and day the difference. I used to HATE to drive the MPV anywhere but I like driving this Honda (I drive a BMW 740 as my daily driver). This Honda scoots along and I really like the intelligent transmission which anticipates what you are about to do and selects the right gear. The kids love the DVD player, no more complaints about long drives, we can't get them out of the car nowadays. Huge storage space behind the 3rd seat, I used to use have to use a roof storage system with the MPV, but now that's gathering dust in the garage.

My wife and I purchased our Odyssey to replace our reliable, yet underpowered '00 CR-V. We have one child and hope to add a couple more and the CR-V was already too small. The 240hp engine is excellent. The five speed shifts very smoothly and engine and road noise are kept to a minimum. These were both major issues we had with the CR-V. I didn't want a minivan but it's a great vehicle.

We got delivery of our '02 Odyssey EX w/navigation system and leather just a few months ago. Since then I have been happy. But I have also had some complaints: The leather is not as good as toyota's, the sliding doors are the worst peice of crap in the minivan. The EPA could be improved, an Onstar system and air compressor like on the Pontiac Montana, Wood grain panels would be nice, less road noise, bumps, rattles, and squeaks would be nice,Xenon ligts, and one last thing make the entertainment system and navigation syustem available on the same van.

overall I am happy with the vehicle. The consumer specs are wrong as far as fuel tank: it is 16 gal. as to the promised 20 gal. storage space and ease of use is great, rides nice. on trips with A/C on @80 mph look for 22 mpg in the city easy driving look for 20mpg. Honda service has a bit to be desired, no loaners unless they parts are on backorder 3 or more days.Do not get the extended warranty, it is not worth 1,600. they need to make the spare tire more accessible, it is also a small skinny, and a full size will not fit in the compartment. Overall I will take the Odyssey over any other minivan by far, if a van is your desire.

This van is my parents new minivan. However, I did drive it several times on my visit to SC. The van is exquisite and the power delivery is fluid and powerful even with a load of people in it. We drove it on a 5 hour trip to FL and it got excellent gas mileage. I like the power sliding doors. They are rather neat. There is excellent room inside and the safety features are top notch. I had to do a LOT of convincing to buy this van other than a Town & Country Limited. He liked that van also, but we are a HONDA family and have been for decades. It doesn't look as expensive as it is, and that is a big disappointment to me. I wanted 'lil' extras...but suppose I have to be satisfied with the automatic sliding doors, navigation system and disappearing 3rd row seat which folds into the floor for extra room for hauling things. The automatic sliding doors are hard to open manually even though the article I read on this van before I bought it, said they weren't too hard to open manually. I had an accident which did 15,000 worth of damage to the van, yet I wasn't hurt hardly at all. The safety ratings are correct! Overall I would rate it a 9 anyway...guess I can't have it all on my budget!

We decided to look into the practical thing...a minivan. I am in my mid-20's, I thought I shouldn't own a minivan, but I was wrong. We ended up driving home in an '02 EXL. We are very pleased so far and believe it or not we got it below sticker. My advice is to do your car buying on rainy evenings because after being told by other dealers to pay sticker plus some or go somewhere else this dealer must have wanted to make a sale that day.

2002 EX.Great Pickup and Room! Apart from that, there is nothing good about this minivan. 28000 is too much for the quality of this minivan. Horrible music system. Problems with automatic doors. Vibrations in Steering wheel. Very high road noise. Drivers seat unstable. Poor braking. This MINIVAN IS BEEN OVERATED. NO WHERE NEAR HONDA STANDARDS. Owned a civic for 4 yrs.. no problems. This one, right from the word go is having problems. Cannot believe that Honda and make such a poor quality vehicle. Had to find another dealer to fix the problems as the buying dealer would not fix it.

Even with little discounting from the sticker, it is a good value. Many features on the LX for the money. Excellent acceleration, handles like a sedan, comfortable and convenient. One windshield washer nozzel had to be replaced and the sliding doors would stick shut if not opened for a while. The dealer took care of the problems quickly. So far, so good.

Finally, I decided to buy this Odyssey after waiting for more than 2 years because of dealer mark up over MSRP. (still paid $1,500 over MSRP). It is the best van in the market, and I am enjoyed every moment of driving it. 240 horses, and 5 speed automatic transmission are even better than previous years. However, the sound system is terrible, need some improvement on this one.

My wife's wants (it's her van) took precedence over mine. My preference would have been a better handling VW Eurovan. So far the Odd-issy lacks character at regular driving speeds; the engine, despite its high HP and torque, seems lackluster. I'll put it through its paces to find out what it truly has to offer. On our way home from the dealership a truck on I85 shed its re-caps. A large rubber projectile ripped the front right plastic wheel kowling out. Other than that, ($110.00) including installation, there was no damage, and thank god no accident. In a week or so I'll give my updated thoughts on performance. Reliability? Time will tell.

Love the 2002 Ody, but I sure miss having a trip computer/outside temp gadge/direction feature. Dumped our 96 Town&Country and never looked back. But, the Chrysler rode better, and was much quieter. Honda should address the body stiffness issues. I have had to ArmourAll all the door seals to keep them from sqeaking from all the movement.

As a Honda salesman and customer, I understand how people feel about markup, Annoyed. However, this is the finest vehicle I have ever owned. It drives just like my Accord, and the DVD is the coolest thing ever for the kids. My only complaint is the drawer under the passenger seat. It is cheap. Don't look at it as paying too much markup. Think of your next best option, and the Odyssey will seem an incredible value. I am sorry your dealer hasn't been satisfactory.

The van has been a pleasant surprise from day one. One rarely buys a van for the pleasure of driving, but for the ability to haul things and people. This van delivers on the requirements, and it also delivers a lot of fun to drive. I recently drove form NH to FL with seven people, and the car made the long trip easy. It is very quiet, seats everyone on comfort, and delivered 25 mpg when driven 70 to 80 mph on the highway. On the way back, I got 27 mpg with a stiff wind from behind...

I bought an ody for quality - what a mistake. Its been to the dealer 4 times already. A serious "drift to the right" problem forcing me to hold the van straight by applying force to the steering wheel to keep it straight. The power door decided to start opening and closing itself one day while in my driveway! The rear vents are nosiy as all heck and had to be replaced but the replacements are squeaking a bit now too, and some of the dash lisght come on and then go off while driving! Serious lemon.

When another driver decided to take the whole engine compartment out - we walked away unscathed and directly into a 2002!! I especially love that at 5'2" tall, I can still get out of my Civic and into the Odyssey's driver seat and feel perfectly comfortable - not like I'm driving some huge lumbering sloth.

This is the best mini-van so far. But still it squeaks and rattles on non- perfect road. All mini-van does this, but I was expecting better from Honda, especially from almost $30,000 vehicle. The front coin and cup holder is on same slot. When this try is out to hold cups, coins are visible and rattles. The second row seats can use better cup holders. One on each side of seat is to clumsy to use. The shifter is too close to the front panel. When I shift, Many times radio power button was unintentinally pressed. Power sliding doors has some logic problem. It would not open and close sometimes.

This is my second new odyssey 2000 and 2002. I paid just sticker price no add on items. I drove my 2000 for 40,000 miles and paid sticker for the 2002 and was given $21,000 + for trade in. Ready to trade every year due to the high trade in prices. I compared buying a comparable 2000 Chrysler Town & Country to a equally equipped Odyssey and it would have cost me after two years over 6,000 difference. No comparison for total value, quality, reliability. Other option buy the new 2002/2003 Pilot to come out shortly.

And with style, also, ours has the Enhanced Entertainment Center with Concern for the Driver as well as passengers. Excellent performance from upgraded V6, 4 wheel Disc brakes, very good outward vision with the exception of front nose. The Sliding Power doors are very welcome, smooth and not too slow, as some reviewing "experts" have tried to decry. It is a 'smart' purchase for 'smart' shoppers. We(the entire family, 2 adults, 3 children) hartily reccommend it. Overall a fine combination of functionality, high value and Safety. 2nd Place means First LOSER.

Quite a paradox here. I bought this vehicle for the room to carry my large family, and Honda quality/reliability. What I did not expect was its MONSTER performance! When my family is not loaded in it, I can forget it is a van, and put its powerful engine to the test. They say it does 0-60 in 9 seconds, but I am convinced it sacrifices a second only because of its front wheel drive and rear weight distribution - You would be burning rubber from the gate if not for traction control system which immediately kicks in when you sink the pedal to the floor. The superior "van" features go without saying. But drive this one and ENJOY!

The 2002 Odyssey sets the mark for Mini Vans. I have had two Chrysler products, one a Dodge Caravan, and then the top of the line Town and Country. The 2002 Odyssey simply outclasses the Chrysler products. Although there are more features on the Chrysler products (trip computer, power lift gate, center console etc.) the smooth power, and superior handling of the Odyssey sets it apart.

Have one week under my belt now. Anyone having problems with transmission? I think either Honda or I have a problem. 0 - 45 MPH is very smooth. Over 45(maybe 50) the tranny wants to shift up down and all around as you speed up and slow down. It's not real bad but definitely noticable. Also level speed between 50 and 55 gets you a low throttle sound like there isn't enough power. More than likely it is shifting too soon. This is true all the time not some of the time. My wife and kids hear it also but so far my wife loves the car (go figure). I like the car but it is easily the worst transmission "feel" for any car I have ever driven with such few miles. Guess it's off to the dealer.

This van rides well, drives well, and works well. But I have had a terrible time getting Honda Motor Corp to resolve the crooked front seat problem with their design. Both the driver- side and passenger-side front seats lean and angle into the center of the van making for a very uncomfortable ride. I contacted the 800 customer service number, but all they would do is say (very nicely) they could not do anything about it. The Service Manager of the Honda dealer admits the seats are crooked, but after contacting Honda Engineering, says that all of the Odyssey seats are like that. Doesn't anybody notice this about the seats besides me?

Read the reviews from everyone and don't understand complaints from those former Chrysler owners and the guy who was talked out of buying a MPV. We looked at the MPV. You must be kidding. That van(?)is not even comparable to the Honda. The Honda meets or exceeds all our expectations. Although, I don't understand why Honda can't keep up with demand. I think this is just a marketing scheme to keep the price up. But as long as Chrysler keeps marking their minivans up as high as they do, than the Odyssey is still a better deal. In a word: AWESOME!

We purchased our 2001 EX Odyssey in Lompoc, CA. After 5 months of driving, the rear sliding doors began to act up. They would not close completely which caused the alarm to go off. We took it back to the dealer and did adjustments. This continued to happen several times and the dealer said I need to clean off the connections when this happens again. When you pay $28,000 for something you expect it to work properly. We are at the point now to have them remove the automatic sliding door feature and install manual doors.I contacted Honda Customer Service and they really did not have any suggestions to fix the matter.

I've driven every mini-van offered in the U.S. (something like 16 of them) and this was the best overall. High horsepower coupled with standard features that are packages everywhere else and that great 3rd row magic seat scored high with me. I'm hoping that it will prove the Honda hype about reliability. 7000 miles later, there are rattles from all different locations in the interior of the vehicle that no dealership can see to find let alone fix. The real gas milage is more like 15 mpg in the city and 18 on the highway not 18/25 like it said when I had purchase it. The ride was bumpy new and even bumpier now after a whole 7000 miles, the wind noise drives e crazy. I was talked out of buying the MPV and paid $4500 more when my friend bought a MPV for less money and it ten times happier with his purchase. This cars rattles, guzzles gas, is noise, and bumpy, not to meantion the power doors choose to work when it pleases and the transmission jerks at times when engaged???????????

I traded in my 2000 Town and Country for this Honda. I thought I was getting a better vehicle, but now I wish I had simply bought another Town and Country instead. The Odyssey is not as comfortable for both the driver and the passengers. Doesn't feel as solid as my old Town and Country and the road noise is bad. The third seats folds into the floor is nice but I think that's where most of the road noise is coming from though. All the reviews I read seem to suggest it's a better van, but I now do not agree with most of those reviews.

After a lot of research from all the best web-sites and test drives from dealerships and friends and family with minivans and SUVs we ended up with the 2002 Odyssey EX-L. No regrets about this vehicle at all. After our decision was all but made, the final test was how closely the Ody would match the wonderful experience we've had with our Acura 3.2TL. And after going feature-for-feature between the EX-L (with 6 in-dash CD and fog lights) and the TL we were absolutely sold on the Odyssey - equal or better across the board!

We have had this van a little over a month with 800 miles and are very impressed with its quality, performance and features. It handles like a vehicle that is much smaller. We went through the internet department of the local dealer and the experience was very low key. Got free mud gaurds, internet discount off MSRP and free lifetime oil changes every 3750 miles as part of the severe driving conditions with Arizona's dry heat.

THE KIDS WERE ENTERTAINED THE ENTIRE WAY! POTTY BREAKS!! WHAT POTTY BREAKS?!! THE SHIFTING IS A SMOOTH AS CAN BE NOW AND THE INSIDE CABIN IS SO MUCH MORE QUIET! BRAVO HONDA!! I WOULD SUGGEST THE HONDA CARE WARRANTY - NO HASSLES - ABSOLUTELY NONE OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS WITH THIS WARRANTY.

In short, if you need a minivan, why not drive one that doesn't make everyone think you are a dork. This is our sixth Honda, and we have been disappointed to some extent every time we stray away. This car drives like a sports car compared to the Toyota Sienna we used to drive. The 99-01 Odyssey was the best minivan available in the US/Canada; the 02 adds 35 horsepower, 5-speed aotomatic and disk brakes a

Prior to purchasing my first Honda Odyssey in 2000, I was driving a Ford Crown Victoria c/w with air ride, leather and all the extras. If anyone had suggested to me that the Odyssey would travel down the highway at 70 mph and handle better than the Crown vic, I would have not have believed them. It does and also gets about the same gas mileage. Four of us went for an extended holiday to the East coast. The Van was perfect for carrying all our luggage plus a cooler and lunch basket. We were able to have our coats, sweaters and various food article right at our fingertips. The fold down rear seat was put up when we arrived at a friends place and the six of us were able to sight see together.

We purchased a 2001 EX looking for a trouble free vehicle (never again will we own a Volvo). The brakes are horrible, rotors were turned at 7500 miles after complaining about severe vibrations when braking. Well, it is time again at 12500 miles, not a good trend. The power doors are nice, when they work! The dealer tells me there is nothing wrong with them. About 75% of the time I have to get back out and shut them because they would not close all the way (Honda Quality?). The engine is wonderfull, both powerfull and smooth. The transmission could use some tuning. I hate the "Grade Logic" feature. It is noisy on the highway but rides great, smooth and stable.

The dealership that I was negotiating with was high pressure and the sales manager even screamed at me "DON'T BUY THE MPV" repeatedly. A simply "Our resale value is better would have sufficed." I had to go elsewhere even though the car was offered at MSRP. Perhaps all this isn't worth getting the most popular minivan.

Looked at Sienna as we have owned 4 Toyotas. ODY beats Sienna hands down. More room, easier to operate (my 4 year old can use the power doors) DVD (vs VCR in Sienna) all the same bells and whistles and even a pretty good price. Wife (who LOVES Toyota) says this is a better van. Try it! You will LOVE it!

This van drives easily, has plenty of power, a cavernous interior, push together 2nd row captains chairs, fold-flat 3rd seat, and feels well put together. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of a Chrysler Town and Country Limited, but most of those most people would never really care to use (do you REALLY need a power liftgate?), and the price and resale value is MUCH better. The addition of side airbags, 4 wheel disc brakes, and more horsepower add to the value of this vehicle.

This is the best mini-van in the American market right now, as 03/23/02. I have no complaint. The third sit is a killer point for sales. I have a two car garage and I don't have space to store a third sit, whith the Honda Odyssey you don't have to take the sit out, you fold it down and disapears.

I just want to say that driving this van is like driving a sedan. The handling is superb as well as the ride. The engine is extremely quiet and the cabin is silent as well. I have no peeves about this van except for the 12v adapter in the front. It is near the floor board and a stretch to try and reach for it. But other than that, this van is like no other and well worth the wait and the price. You wil get what you pay for.

After a long debate between getting the LX or the EX. I opted for the LX mainly because of price. So far everything about this Van is great. Exeptional Honda quality as I expected. However when I see one of the kids slamming the manual side doors I find myself wishing I would have spend the extra money for the EX model with the smooth closing power doors. Either way LX or EX compared to the competition you can't beat the Honda Odyssey mini van.

I have a 2000 Honda Odyssey EX and drove about 18000 miles. Well, I have been to dealer four times already. Once was for the instrument panel lighting recall, and three times for the rear sliding door. THREE TIMES. My rear (both side) sliding door stop working once, and didn't close so it beeped like crazy. They have replaced both door's locking part, but I had exact same problem one more time. I also heard that this was design fault by Honda and they should extend my warranty on this door.

It drives, handles and performs better than many of the sedans out there on the streets. What a beauty! The 240 horses give you a sense of power, but during normal driving conditions, you can't tell the difference between this and the previous year's. If you can get one in less than 90 day's on the waiting list, more power to you. I was lucky that they actually had one sitting in the lot...

Just took delivery of an EXL with Navigation. This is an exceptionally well designed and built vehicle. Honda reliability plus the magic 3rd row seat and the power sliding doors were the key selling point. Navigation was a nice toy to add to the package. Had to wait 6 months like everyone else, but was able to purchase through a buying service so I paid invoice and consider it a BARGAIN. Never thought we would get a minivan but our SUV got to be a challenge with our second child. Still can't believe I traded in my Mercedes to get this van for my wife.

The 240 horses are addictive. The 5-speed auto, traction control, good gas mileage, and magic seat are nice bonuses. Excellent crash test results gives me peace of mind for my family. It may not be the best equipped minivan on the market, but it is the best value.

I need a car roomy for trips, hauling items, economical, dependable, comfortable, etc. I researched using Edmunds and other sources and realized the Odyssey was the choice! Had it 3 weeks and so far I am very pleased! It handles very well for a van and is so quiet and comfortable. I like the rear seat that is easy to fold down and have room for our two bikes and tons of stuff. On the road it wants to get to 75 without even a whisper! Just 2000rpm at 70mph. Great car.

I've read some of the previous reviews. How can some of you rate a 5 then put in your review that it's the best minivan you've ever driven. Maybe the survey needs some idiot-proofing. Regardless the 240bhp engine, 5 speed automatic transmission, 11 cup holders, folding rear seat, and the huge array of standard features in the EX is incredible. I got mine for $1,500 under MSRP and absolutely love it!!!

Excellent all around van. It has the biggest interior and most powerful engine in its class.

AFTER HAVING 3 CHRYSLER MINIVANS AND 2 TRANSMISSIONS REPLACED I DECIDED TO TRY A HONDA. I'M EXTREMELY PLEASED WITH THE HANDLING, AND I LIKE THE TRACTION CONTROL (LIVING IN THE COUNTRY IT'S A NICE FEATURE) BUT....IT'S NOISY...I HEAR EVERYTHING AND FEEL EVERYTHING. I FEEL IT LACKS THE "CREATURE COMFORTS" OF THE CHRYSLER.

I bought this car for my wife to drive, and as it turns out I want to drive it all the time. The performance on this vehicle blows the competition away with its 240 horsepower, 5 speed transmission, and 4 wheel independent suspension. It is as fun to drive as any minivan gets. Put that together with the excellent crash test ratings and functional interior and you have a great minivan.

02 is much better than our 2000 EX

Traded our 00 for an 02. The difference is remarkable. It's as if they corrected all of our complaints from the 00. Brakes are stronger and less grabby, 5Spd auto stops the 3500 rpm light throttle starts, seats are recontoured, much less road and wind noise, can actually listen to the stereo on the freeway, and oh yeah 40 extra horsepower on regular unleaded gas. Well done!
