We bought our CRV brand new off the lot in 2002 and it went through 10 years of nasty northern winters and rainy summers and now in the blistering heat of the southwest. We've had the a/c repaired then replaced and the starter . I know now that gas is cheaper than a starter ! It has 155,000 miles on it and in the shop as I type and needs timing belt, valves adjusted, axle boots, alignment, sway bar and struts for less $1500. - which is far less than buying an unknown used car.

I got it brand new in 2002. First new car I ever bought. I've had it now for 14 years. Here are the repairs I have done: 1) A/C system was completely replaced under warranty after 2 years. 2) Throttle body was replaced under warranty in year 4. 3) Passenger side door actuator (lock mechanism) failed. Replaced all 4. 4) Struts replaced at 70,000 miles 5) A/C compressor replaced in 2015 Other than that it has just been batteries, tires and brake pads. The A/C systems in these vehicles can be problematic. The door actuators were a cheap design and tend to fail but are relatively cheap to replace. The engine, transmission, electrical system, AWD system, and audio are absolutely bullet proof in my experience. The paint finish still looks like new. The seats could be more comfortable but the material has held up well. When it is just me in the CRV the engine has a fair amount of pep. When you load it up with people and stuff - not so much. But it does get a consistent 25 MPG in mixed driving so I'm not complaining. Very easy to park and great visibility all around. The stereo system is reliable but the sound is pretty crummy by modern standards. It is extremely versitile. It serves just as well as a daily commuter as it does a grocery hauler. Currently I've got about 125,000 miles on it and it runs like a swiss watch. The only real complaint has been the A/C system. Other than that, it's been a very reliable and economical vehicle. I should be able to get 250,000 miles out of it if I continue to take care of it. Highly recommended.

This has been the best car ever. I bought mine new many years ago, and have always loved this car. It has needed extraordinarily little maintenance over all these years, and still runs beautifully - I am even on the original clutch. Great Car!!!!!

Bought this new in 2002. So after 14 years, it is without a doubt the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. Normal things have worn. I'm afraid I will jinx myself if I list all the original equipment that hasn't needed replacement. We bought this for a something to haul around our Golden Retrievers, transport us in bad weather and pile a lot of stuff in. It has been GREAT!

Very Sad I just totalled my CR-V, I loved this car!

I loved this car it has been so reliable for the past 10 years. I had 197,000 miles on it and could have easily put on another 197,000 miles. Not one problem with it mechanically the engine had all original parts. Never had any of the recall issues either. My CR-V has gotten me home safely in some of the most extreme conditions driving from LA to Mammoth Lakes at least twice a month for the past 6 years. Until the night a deer took it out. I would recommend this car to anyone. Would love to buy a newer CR-V, but was laid off from work due to economy will have to try a KIA. Thats why I'm on here. Thanks to all who write reviews almost bought an SUV from US makers reviews scared me.

Let me start by saying is any vehicle perfect? No. But this CR-V comes close. It is very roomy, fun to drive, gets decent mileage (22 mpg all the time) for an SUV and is as reliable as can be. It is great in the snow and gives a firm but comfortable ride. We replaced an Accord wagon that was loved but this CR-V has surpassed our expectations. If you want reliable transportation wrapped in good looks and comfort, the CR-V is the way to go.

I've had this 2002 Honda CRV only since '08 but it is now at 181,000 KM and it is still a smooth ride. In interior comfort is very good and being a tall person I fit in it just fine. The cargo space is great and with the rear seats folded over I can transport a surprising amount of stuff (moves done with this). The engine is strong and it accelerates nicely even with 4 people in the CRV. The downside is the gas mileage, not as good as an Accord of similar vintage and engine size but the AWD does have a rear-differential so you must expect that feature will affect mileage in any truck.

Bought this Honda (first and last one) used with 88,000 km and a little warranty left. Noticed that it consumed about 1 liter of oil every 3000 km. Took it to the dealer - he said it is normal for Hondas (????) At 112,000 km had to replace engine. Luckily air conditioning is working fine. Not happy. Not the greatest gas mileage either. Very noisy on the highway - can not hear radio clearly. Will never buy Honda again.

Bought this car new and have 138K on it now. Has been a great car, very few problems. Driver's door window motor broke, and both rear brake calipers froze up around 75K, but other than that no problems. Great in the snow, comfortable, definitely not a luxury vehicle but love all the room and versatility. It handles like a little go cart...not tippy like some SUV's.

This review is not to bash the Honda, but let people be aware of potential problems with this vehicle. At about 70k km. the power steering pump had to be replaced, no a big deal since it was under warranty. At around 80k km. both rear wheel bearings had to be replaced – under warranty. Once the vehicle was off warranty the following items had to be replaced – all wheel bearings, the whole struts assembly (over $1200), ABS sensor, catalytic converter (over $1000), recently my u-joints “went” but they cannot be replace – the whole drive-shaft has to be replaced (over $1000). Currently some bushings should be replaced but I am putting this off, and seat belt sensor is not working ($300).

This CR-V is an all wheel drive model, with manual 5speed The winning attributes are: All wheel Drive (I live in MN) Mileage is 20 city 25 hwy. build quality is great. ride and handling are great. load capacity in interior square footage is great. although she sags pretty easily with a weighty load. Engine runs super. breaking is great. the negatives are: drivers legroom is cramped. rear hatch door opens to the side (poopy in the rain). if you are someone who appreciates practicality and reliability vs fluff, you will like this car. (lookout for the legroom issue)

Had this car for 8 years and recently decided to upgrade to a Pilot. Over the course of that time, I only had some minor issues with recalls. Other than that, I changed the oil regularly and kept the tires inflated. Cabin noise was awful, though, especially when it rained. The car was under- powered, which was a shame. Gas mileage was good, which was appreciated when gas prices went through the roof.

We bought our 2002 in 2005 with 40K on it and we have been very pleased. Seating is very comfortable on long trips and cargo space and versatility is excellent. Gas mileage of a car, but high like an SUV - great compromise. Nice pep when needed. Great in the snow (the Rav4 was awful). No major repairs at all yet! We have had the break pads replaced, the tires replaced, and all the other regular maintenance. No problems with AC as others have mentioned. We've been very pleased with this car and would buy again.

I purchased my CR-V new and it has been outstanding. It just received 210,000 mile maintenance. Two minor repairs and scheduled maintenance only. It still looks and drives great. I would not hesitate to take off anywhere in it. Averages 26 MPG. My only issue is my neighbor wants to buy it and I feel bad because I'm not giving this one up!

I brought this car with 62,000 mi. Of course, the dealer offered an extended warranty which I refused. It's a Honda right? So,forget it. About six months later engine light was on, and the mechanic said it was the throttle body. Really? Never replaced one of these. I took the car to the dealer to confirm but, Honda corp ageed to replace the part. Honda paid for the part ($800), and I paid for labor. The AC compressor went out at 90,000 mi. My mechanic told me there is a problem with the compressor on these cars (depending on where the part came from) Again, Honda split the cost. Overall, I love my car. I have over 102,000, and have only replaced the brake pads. Love Honda.

My wifes CRV...a great car with only one outstanding exception. Multiple complete Replacements of the rear brake systems, complete calipers and rotors. Due to complete lockups of the rear brakes, the first replacement of calipers and rotors was performed under warranty at about 16,000 miles. Honda covered it. Second replacement was and about 37,000 miles, Honda covered that even though past 36,000 miles. Dealer said a bad batch of calipers were used in the first replacement session. (OK, then why the 2nd freeze up?) Then a THIRD replacement was necessary of the calipers and rotors at about 58,000 due to another freezeup and warping the rotors, At our cost. Disappointing. Great Car though

This is my 3rd and final review for this outstanding vehicle which I bought new and will be trading in soon with over 120000 miles. If you are reading this review, you are likely looking to buy a used CRV. I can honestly say that it still has a new car look and feel. The only repairs for malfunctions ever done were for A\C and brakes. All else was for preventative maintenance. I think buying a used CRV is a roll of the dice, but if you get one that has been properly maintained, you will not be sorry.

I have owned 2 other hondas prior to this one and I am sad to say it is the black sheep of the bunch. As my family grew so did our need to move into a larger car than my 1996 civic. My old civics have been as reliable as nothing else I've owned. The CRV seemed like a sure bet. My first year was trouble free as expected from a Honda. On our second summer the ac blew out! I thought I just had one of those RARE little problems and would probably never happen again. Just this Sept. my AC started to make those same sounds again before it blew up! My other civics 220000+ miles and no problems yet! I should have bought another civic! Honda made the best and worst cars I've owned. I love/hate Hondas.

When looking for my second car, I knew I needed something with a lot of cargo space and good fuel economy. Of course I also wanted something stylish and fun to drive. I found that in my CR-V! It's got enough room to haul my band's equipment to shows when I've got the rear seats folded up. The iV-TEC engine has enough power to satisfy throttling down the interstate. And it has plenty of room to carry my friends from place to place! So far the only issue I've had is the glove compartment light stays on all the time; the switch isn't catching.

The car was fine until the warranty ended. After that it was one repair and the other. The final straw is the estimated $2500 to replace the entire AC System since the compressor blew pieces of metal all in the system. This is clearly a manufacturer defect. The dealer said that Honda will not pay because of the age of the car.

The a/c, as others have reported, is the worst part of owning this vehicle. First time it broke was long out of warranty and Honda didn't give a flip this was a common complaint. Second time, still under 1yr warranty from previous work. It took the mechanic three compressors before finding one that worked without failing instantly. Third time, I just gave up and am now looking for a new car. It was my second Honda. My first was a Civic which held up well in a very bad front end collision (I walked away uninjured from a car with no front end left) which led me to stay with Honda. The a/c experience and nearly constant check engine light are why I will leave.

Car did well right up to the end of the rather weak warranty. After 90K some really annoying repairs... chief of which was the endemic defects involving the AC Compressor. O2 Sensors went before that and before that the blower motor. Having heat last winter and AC this summer has been a real challenge. Honda was no help with repairs which is disturbing since the AC Compressor is an obvious problem throughout the country.

This is the third Honda I've owned, I only buy used cars now not new ones. I thought this was a good buy at a good price because of my experience with the other Honda's I've owned, boy was I mistaken. The Air Conditioning Compressor blew up only 2 weeks after I bought it, the Sales Manager refused to help pay for any of the repair or parts for the AC System. He said that he had sold me the car at a price that was so low that the dealership didn't really make any profit so he couldn't help with any of the repair. I had to pay $1974.97 to the Honda Dealership to replace the entire AC System since the compressor blew bits of metal were all in the system. Very disapointed.

This is the third Honda I've owned and I must say the worst one, I've purchased 2 used Honda's in the past and they've been fine and I still have a 2003 Honda Odyssey van 138,000 miles on it, doing fine. But this 2002 CR-V is the pits, not because of its driveability but because the compressor in the air conditioning system blew up after the second week of ownership, it's presently being repaired at a cost of $1974.00. Honda America is paying $500.00 I guess as a matter of goodwill because they know this has been a defect with these models. I won't buy a used Honda again, one sting is enough for me.

I bought a '02 CR-V with 20,000 miles on it. My AC broke at 65,000 miles. I paid $150 to have it fixed. Broke again 2 months later. Honda quoted me $1000+ to fix it. I'm STILL making payments and cannot afford to replace it. Not fun in 100 CA weather. I've always sworn by Hondas. Even my Honda mechanic said "I don't know why you have so much trouble with this car you take such good care of it." It has electrical problems, the stereo had already been replaced when I bought it. Cruise control works when it feels like it. The rear door latch mysteriously stopped working. The cup holder is broken. Interior door panel by the window fell off. I baby this car! COME ON HONDA. This is the second Honda CR-V I've owned and I bought both of them used. My wife totaled our other one which was a 1999 model while trying to avoid hitting a deer, I wish she had just totaled the deer, it would have done less damage but, instead she veered off the road and hit a huge rock in a ditch and it cracked the transmission and obliterated the front end suspension. We have never had any problems out of either or our CR-V's other than that. I have plenty of power for a 4 cylinder, it'll do turnpike and interstate speeds all day long with no problem, and I can pull a small boat with it. The gas mileage is decent 24-26 highway and 19-21 around town.

I bought my 2002 CR-V EX 2WD used, in 2007 & I absolutely LOVED it. It ran beautifully, never once had to undergo repairs, got wonderful gas mileage & was just an overall reliable vehicle--the perfect first car! They are cute little SUVs, typically owned by more females. The interior features are eye-catching & unique & for a smaller SUV, they have impressive storage capacity & spacey passenger room. Mine ran beautifully up to the day I was involved in a head-on collision, and even then I found good news--it's a pretty sturdy little car! I am now searching for another '02 CR-V; I won't drive any other vehicle!

Bought our CRV new. Have had it now for almost 7 years, it has 117,000 miles on it and still going. It had one major repair (Carburator) last year. Other than that, no major repairs. A good record in my opinion. It has started all winter except when it was more than -20. But my spouses new car didn't start either. Right now the engine light is on and we can't really resolve that matter. Given the age and mileage on it, it is to be expected I guess. My one negative thing is the paint finish. Ours is gold and has chipped in places since early on. We were told it was not a defect. Don't believe that. Very reliable. Have always gotten to where I needed to go.

This is the 3rd Honda CR-V I have had. It is a great vehicle dependable and a miser on gas. I have gone from Arizona to San Diego in just about a tank of gas. Mine came with 6-disc changer moonroof and all wheel drive. I have taken mine skiing and the 4wheel drive was a nice feature. I didn't get stuck and I was impressed.

The 2002 Honda CR-V was my favorite car! I originally bought it because it was easy to get in and out of for me and my infant with his car seat. It is an SUV with a small car feel. The cargo space is adequate. I was able to pack a bicycle, stroller, and a treadmill in the back. The 5th door opens "barn door style" and that was handy with groceries. To me, the look of it is one of the best years of the CR- V.

Purchased in Aug 08. Problems began after 75,000. Airbag light on for most of the time. Air conditioning died at 90,000 miles. Transmission dead at 105K and the gas tank neck needed to be replaced. After 165K the alternator died, leaving me on the side of a busy highway. All told, I have spent over $6,000 in repairs on top of regular maintenance. I would say the CRV is a piece of junk, but every one I know who has one, loves it and has had no problems at all. I got a lemon. But the highway incident was the last straw. Last night i bought a Volvo.

My 2002 CR-V EX is the fourth Honda I have owned and my eighth vehicle. My last four vehicles have all been Honda's. I don't have much negative to say about it. The only trouble I've experienced, has been with Gas Filler threads causing the Gas Cap to be a little hard to put on. I had one of the front stabilizer links to pop off on one end. Other than that it has been a great vehicle. It has over 100,000 miles on it, but looks, drives, feels and sounds like it only has 100 miles. I will probably never own anything but a Honda.

Pros: Door height - I don't bump my head getting in/out. Good little engine - strong, reliable Comfortable for around town driving Cons: 1. Air conditioning has gone out twice in last year. Bad compressor and dealer didn't offer me any deal, only a $3500 estimate. 1st time seals blew out, 2nd time bearings failed. 2. Black paint has white undercoat so every little scratch shows and it scratches VERY easily, despite frequent waxing. 3. Back seat legroom limited; OK for kids, tight for adults. 4. Has irritating rattle since new, especially when turning right. Dealer couldn't find cause under warranty. 5. If quality is so good, why does Honda have the worst warranty in the business?

We've had our 2002 CR-V for nearly six years and over 100,000 miles and have been quite satisfied with the car. It is incredibly roomy for such a small car, a decent road trip car and economical to operate. BUT Honda's a/c compressors for the CR-V and Element for 2002-03 were badly designed and fail catastrophically, requiring every bit of the a/c system to be replaced at a cost around $3,200. Our first such failure was under warranty at about 70,000 miles in September 2006 and the 2nd 18 months later. We paid $800+ plus labor this time since it's out of warranty. Doubtless, if we keep the car, we'll replace it again in 18 months or so.

Bought certified used @ just over 50k miles counting on legendary Honda reliability. Pleased with majority of vehicle, including tire and brake wear, so on with the bad. As of yesterday, 2nd A/C compressor failure. First at around 55k under certified warranty, second 104,500, no warranty, but Honda is covering parts only. Blower control switch has dead spots, not covered when found under certified period, not worth $ for control panel yet. Intermittent auto up and down driver side window. Paint chipping off hood rapidly. Overall potentially the most expensive to maintain and repair out of 35 vehicles (4 have/had 120 - 210k miles w/out A/C problems) I've owned save for the cert. warranty.

Purchased vehicle new in January 2002. Currently have 60k miles and have been pleased with the overall performance and reliability. No mechanical issues except the a/c compressor mentioned in other posts. However, our mechanic (Honda of Fredericksburg, VA) did a little research and found this problem to be occurring with more frequency; called corporate Honda and replaced the a/c free of charge. This when the car already had 50k on the odometer (and no extended warranty). It's worth the time to question Honda on this one. The one complaint would be that, although Honda makes a great, reliable vehicle, they seem to go light on interior design quality.

It is likely more typical to write a review when you have had, or are having, a problem. This thought occurred to me reading through some of the posts here re: unexpected and expensive problems. Thought I would tell you about my experience. Bought my CR-V used in 2006 with 52,000 miles on it - now, 106,000. Other than changing the oil with high quality synthetic every 3500 miles & buying a new battery, I did nothing else to it until last month. Had to get new tires and the back brakes done. Also took it to the Honda Dealership & had them do all of the scheduled maint. to date (overdue). Every fluid changed - $600 poorer. But think I'm good now for another 100,000 miles. Love the car.

SRS light on, Honda dealer ran codes, says need new SRS module or something, replacement of entire SRS at cost of nearly $1,000. Vehicle problem began at 105K, just outside warranty. I am second owner, purchased from sued dealer at 88k. Tried customer service, which at first sounded willing and able to to the right thing and fix it as a safety issue. Case worker at Honda says NO. It is a supplemental safety system- secondary and also I am not covered for any warranty consideration. Other 2002 CR-Vs had a recall on SRS. Not mine. Honda recently issued Warranty Extension on OPDS system to 120K/10 yrs., but this is NOT related to the entire SRS failure-sensor issue. Honda Corp-shame on you!

Not bad, very good for now.

Well I got this vehicle because it was the first car. My dad liked it when we visited Saturn of national city, I was trying to get the 04 trailblazer because it was more roomer but thank goodness I got the CR-V with gas price is increasing, I love the CR-V and made a lot of modification to it but, I don't like the road noises, wind noises and the bumping sound every time you hit the bumps. I hate that. I do also love the CR-V because I have it for three year now and so far no problem with it yet and I only got 60,000 mile on it and its still drive like new because I do every 5000 mile maintenance. So overall. This Honda crv is a good car for its price.

At 88000 miles the a/c compressor blew out. That's it. No other malfunctions or part failures. Now at 97000 the engine is quiet, the ride is still composed, trans shifts smoothly and everything is A-OK. Even the paint and wheels still look pretty good.

We bought this car new and it was good for about 50k miles. First problem was that the front door locks simply stopped working. Then the cheap plastic parts in the interior started breaking. Then a problem with the VTEC system. A mechanic said that dirt had prevented the extra set of valves from engaging when the engine needed more power. We were not doing any heavy duty off-road driving, so that was strange. Now, like other readers, our throttle sensor has gone out and it is going to set us back $900 to replace the whole unit. I'm sorry, but this is not why we bought a "reliable" Honda. Seems like the company is coasting on its reputation and I'm not enthusiastic about buying one again.

I like my vehicle when I bought it and at the current time. I bought my vehicle brand new. Once it reached 60K miles, I begin having mechanical problems. I had to replace the O2 sensor at $500 and after that was fixed, I had to replace the throttle body which cost approximately $1,000. The sensor within the body needed to be replaced but you had to purchase the complete throttle body for the simple part.

Our CRV, which we bought new, is completing its 5th year on the road. So far nothing has gone wrong yet. I think that's pretty amazing. The vehicle also still looks very good. There is some small pitting on the hood and the black side rails are faded. I got 45,000 miles on the original Firestones and will change the next set at around 90,000. The recommended maintenance intervals are too far apart. Do the spark plugs at 75,000 and change the trans and coolant fluids at around 60,000 miles. Also if you notice a rumbling during slow tight turns, have the rear differential pump fluid changed. Change the pollen filters. When they clog, the AC works harder. That may be why compressors go bust.

I bought this car from private party who had leased it new and decided to sell it instead of turning it in at the end of the lease. Not long after I had it the Throttle sensor went out. You have to replace the whole throttle body. $750 at the dealership (parts only) I got one at a salvage yard for $300 plus $200 to replace. Next the AC compressor blew. $700 to fix. Next the TPS went out again. A new one this time. $900 to fix. Now the O2 sensor is bad at least another 3-$400. The tape player just went out. Two days ago my wife had it overheat while driving. It was out of coolant. I have no idea why. I refilled it and am holding my breath hoping it holds out long enough for me to sell it.

We bought ours new in 2002 and have loved it ever since. OEM tires are no good in snow after a few thousand miles (we live in Buffalo). Replaced with good all season Yokohama tires, which are now going on their 3rd winter. Interior plastic does scratch/show smudges a little too easily, as does the exterior paint. Seats are a little uncomfortable on long rides. Storage is great. We use the picnic table when we camp. We use this over our Accord for vacation road trips because it's so fun to drive! Good mileage for a ute (we get 24-27 MPG). No mechanical problems at 50,000 miles so far except dealer recalls which were fixed very quickly.

I'm getting a little teary eyed at the thought that I might soon part with my car. At 100K, it runs like a clock. You will never stop being amazed at all the space inside this vehicle; no one will feel cramped in the rear seat. The interior is spartan, but does not feel cheap at all. I have a 5 speed, so the 4 cyl engine never bothered me, and I get an MPG in the low to mid 20s despite the AWD. This may be one of the best used car values you'll ever find.

Other than normal wear and tear, I have never had to have any major work performed on this CR-V. While it may not be the sexiest SUV out there, it is solid and reliable, like an old friend. The interior has held up well and is quite functional. My major issue is that I only average 20-22 MPG on the Interstate and @ 17-18 MPG city. Also, I'd like a bit more low end torque to get the CR-V motivated when I need it to get up and go. Once it is at speed, it is a smooth ride with average noise intrusion. Very good brakes and handling for a SUV. I am very satisfied with my CR-V and I plan to keep it for at least another 5 years.

Bought new in '02. 51k miles. Engine shifts are tough on hilly highways (Vermont). Road noise a bit loud. Factory tires wore out way too soon. Rides a little rough with chosen new tires, but other tire choices give a softer ride. Drives great. Driver's seat needs better thigh support for tall folk on long rides. Very reliable. AWD kicks in snowy weather. Movable back seats are awesome, but the 1/3 seat split doesn't always help with some loads. Factory stereo works well. Overall an excellent vehicle and recommended.

The CRV has typical Honda quality and reliability without any repairs after 66,000 miles. It has good interior cargo space but not quite big enough to jam in a sheet of plywood. The handling is good for an SUV and the mileage is reasonable at 21 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. For it's price it's the best value in the SUV field.

This is used primarily as a tow-behind-our-motorhome vehicle, and as our 2nd-car home vehicle. It excels at both. It's light & pulls safely & reliably with 4 wheels on the ground, has 4 speed automatic, is powerful enough to use off-road, and delivers a solid 28 mpg. The best investment a motorhome owner could make. We live at high altitude in Colorado, and have plenty of power to go over steep mountain passes on cruise control @ 65+mph, and when shifted to 3rd gear, the tough little engine has enough compression to handle downgrades without braking. It handles reliably in snow and on ice. After almost 4 years of use, only routine service has been done. No repairs required.

Since purchasing this suv in 3/02 it has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Every car, especially first year redesigns such as the '02 CRV, has minor glitches. The check engine light periodically came on when the car was new because of a software bug-dealer updated software and solved the problem! The other problems are to minor to list. Tires, on the other hand, are something this truck loves to eat! After 30,000 miles give or take expect to purchase a new set. Those issues aside I would highly recommend this vehicle and expect to drive it 'problem free' for many more miles!

Great vehicle overall but uncomfortable on long rides. Poor fuel economy, nowhere near the 25-30 mpg that is adverstised. Harsh riding because of smallish wheelbase.

It's a Honda, what else can I say. We owned an 1998 CR-V and traded it for a Nissan Xterra thinking we wanted a "bigger" suv. Needless to say after a few years we really missed the CR-V. We ended up trading back to the 2002 CR-V and have been enjoying it ever since. It's not only reliable but overall a very economical vehicle to own. The CR- V is also very comfortable to ride in on long trips. It rides like a car but at a higher view point of the road. Our next vehicle will be an new CR-V, probably a 06 or an 07. I reccomend this vehicle whole heartedly.

I recently had a major car accident in my crv and thankfully due to the stability of this vehicle myself and my three children only have bruises, and some back and neck pain to show. our vehicle was hit between the driver and rear passenger doors and did a complete rollover as well as a 360 degree spin before coming to a stop at a brick wall. The vehicle was totalled however I would definitely recommend this vehicle for anyone with a family to own due to how safe and secure we were! I will be purchasing honda again due to the reliability, and safety of their vehicles.

I have had this car for three months. I owned one CRV before. The car is a pleasure to drive and built sturdy. For the intown driving I do, the gas mileage is fine. My only recommendation would be better visibility of front bumpers from drivers seat. I see that the previous owner must have had difficulty as well. Other than that, the car is built to last. I have had Toyotas for years but Honda builds a much better car.

Very reliable SUV. Fun to drive. Didn't realize it did not have a lock mechanism on the door panel of the front passenger's side. Missed that convenience I had with my 98 Accord. Glove compartment is smallest I have ever had. The owner's manual fits and little else. Miss the Accord's roomy interior. CRV's great cargo area is the main reason I bought it. It uses gas a lot faster than the Accord, but as an SUV, it's still more economical than most. Grocery shopping is sometimes a problem for putting away groceries in the back because of the swing out door. Other vehicles often pull too close to the back door, and it makes it difficult to open the door to put items in back cargo area.

This really is a good vehicle, but I'm surprised at how poorly the tires have held up, the paint quality is poor and has anyone ever backed-up into something???? I tapped another car in my driveway and was surprised at how the back side fell apart. The body side molding unattached itself from the metal and oh my what a dent! That was from a little tap rolling out of the garage. I am really beginning to worry how safe this car would be if it were rear ended. Has anyone encountered any rear end damage???

This CRV is a disappointment. All the struts had to be replaced before 32K miles--the right rear twice! Cruise control never engages on the first push of the button. It's hard to get into 1st gear and is very difficult to put in reverse without major gear grinding. It has a high frequency vibration at 60-70MPH that comes and goes. New tires improved it but not completely. Factory tires are junk. Rear door strut failed, and had to be replaced. There is excessive road noise, especially at highway speeds. My dealer has been super in helping resolve problems. I've had more issues with this vehicle than with all the other 4 Hondas I've own combined. Next car: Highlander.

Excellent performance overall. My only complaint would have to be the paint job which is very easily marked by the slightest contact. I have driven my CRV on lengthy road trips from Florida to Virginia several times and can honestly say that I have no complaints. My CRV has received three recall notices for minor adjustments which I could not notice as far as performance goes. The only time I used the warranty was when my door lock on the driver's side would not accept the key. I will soon have 60,000 miles on it and have replaced the tires once and make sure my oil is changed every 3,000- 5,000 miles as suggested.

We've owned this car for 30 months and 43K miles. Boy this car started to wear on us. Had to replace the tires, the Firestone tires were coming apart in little chunks. Every other OEM tire has lasted at least 65K. Armrests are terrible. The check engine light always comes on. Stereo is weak. The most odd thing is the handling on ice/snow. The car feels like it is sliding all over the place, even though it isn't. It always goes exactly where I pointed it but has a 'lateral slide' feel to it.... CRV has worn us out, but I have faith in Honda so on to the PILOT.

2002 Honda CRV-this is the worst vehicle mechanically we have ever owned. We are getting rid of itBrakes came unglued at 37000 miles, air conditioning compressor has failed twice, air bag sensor went, alternator went, brakes again. major repairs all and to significant safety systems. Honda has refused to buy back vehicle- and while they have helped with parts after much fighting with them basic message is you are on your own if you don't have an extended warranty. In addition gas mileage is less than advertised and handling in the snow is just marginal. Good riddance

When we first bought out CR-V I loved it and considered buying a second one. Interior space, standard features and performance were among our likes. Since then, it has been recalled 5-6 times, and one item with the shifter has been a recurring problem. I also had to replace the back brakes, including rotors, at 25k for about $400 due to a stuck inboard caliper that dug up the rotor. The paint quality is terrible, it scratches very easily. I notice others with the same problem of scratches around the door handles. The door switches also keep failing (3 of them) which has caused us to leave the lights on more than once and kill the battery.

Overall a very reliable, comfortable, and well laid-out vehicle. Kudos for the interior layout - everything is right where it's supposed to be. Well, the automatic gear shift takes a bit of getting used to... just close your eyes and pretend it's attached to the steering column. In two years, I've had only one problem: the outer left rear brake lining detached from the metal backing pad. This caused the most awful metal-on-metal sound. Replaced the rear brake pads & had no more problems. One note: don't get the black exterior paint unless you have the means to have the car washed daily! The OEM stamped steel wheels are also a bit cheesy; go aluminum.

All in all, this is really a super car. It's a great multi-putpose vehicle. Our biggest dissapointment is that gas mileage hasn't been quite what Honda advertised (we average 22 mpg in mixed driving on the LX model). Aside from that, is fun to drive, practical for all types of errands...hauling the family around, groceries, getting plants, etc. I love all the interior space, with such a compact-looking exterior. Even with the less-than-hoped-for fuel economy, we would buy another, based on our experience so far.

This was a great little car-- We used it for in-town and short (one-day) trips. Loved the comfort for all passengers, but my 6'8" hubby did have to scrunch his legs just a bit (he still liked driving it). Great for groceries, luggage and grandchildren. I know some speak about road noise, but we had no problem with it. Now that I need a new car, I immediately went to the CRV's. Checked ALL the other makes and models out, narrowed it to CRV or Element (more leg room for the big guy) although both of us loved the CRV, he did spend a lot of time with not much space for those long legs.

Altough every one in America has a CR-V it still is a very good car. It is harder to rub it into peoples faces because they'll just say "well i have one to it is no big deal." The exterier of the car is some what ugyl. The 4 cylinders narrows the cars off road abilities. The engeine is a little bit nosiey. There is so much room in the car it is amazing. The ride is a little bit bumpier than other cars. There are alot of cool and useful features in the car. All in all the Honda CR-V is a great car to have for its cheep price and great prices.

It is so dependable, and the dealership is great when we take it in for service. I had a 1986 and 1992 Honda Accord before I got the CRV. When I get another car, it will most likely be a CRV. It cost me to the tune of $1800.00. I was very upset that a car this new would have such problems. I was thinking of buying a Pilot, but now thinking of different line of car. I have noticed a noise in the brakes when starting out in the mornings and have had 3 recalls in 9 months. We love the sunroof, stereo, and the idea of side air bags. My CRV is black and scratches and swirls in the paint were there when I bought it. I am teaching my daughter how to drive and feel very safe in this vehicle and feel that she is much safer as a first time driver. I love the arms rests and the cargo room. Whenever anyone gets in my CRV, they always comment on how much room there is in both the front and back seats.

I have 2002 CRV for the last 18 months. It is good, reliable but the ride is very bumpy and harsh (a nice way to put it is "sports" ride with road feel). The tires (Bridgestone dueller) are worn out at 30K. Engine had idling problems - dealer replaced a CVT valve - made a small difference. Seats have very low padding. Thinking of trading for a Highlander.

There is lots of room for improvement. I have the EX model with 15,000 miles on it and I get very poor gas mileage no matter how I drive, (17 mpg). At 6'1" tall, I barely fit in this car. I have one in black and the paint appears to be very thin and shows swirl marks and scratches easily. I added the aftermarket leather and aftermarket 16" wheels with Bridgestone Dueler tires to make the ride a little bit smoother but it is still rather punishing on the freeways. Overall I think the car is very good but I think the engineers at Honda could have put a little bit more thought into it to make it a really great little SUV.

Everything is great but the paint!

This is a great little SUV. We did some research prior to replacing our incredible 1989 Camry wagon, and based on safety tests, interior design and the vehicle's handling, we went with the CRV. However, the one glitch is the paint job. Our Chianti red paint is chipping off the hood at an incredible rate! At 2 years of age, the hood and front fenders are in far worse shape than our 13 year old Camry. The rest of the vehicle seems to scratch very easily as well.

I chose between this 2002 model, a 2004 Toyota Corolla and a 2003 Chevy Cavalier. It easily beats out the Cavalier. But I was really torn the first month if I had made a good purchase. But the more I've driven it the more I'm impressed. Very easy to drive, smooth, quiet, nice turning radius. Easy reach to cruise control, radio and console. It has great pickup for passing the 18 wheelers on the interstate. I'm getting 24-26 miles/gallon. It's just fun to drive.

Since I love my 98 CRV, I convinced my husband to trade in his 99 V6 Camry for the 2002 CRV! Since I drive both of them, I can point out the improvements/nonimprovements with 2002; Power! My husband is very satisfied with the 4-cyl 2002 CRV. Believe it or not, that's about it! Many other features have been changed in 2002 but not for the better. The Bridgestone tires that came with it are TERRIBLE during cornering on wet roads. We took them off at 7200 miles and put my used Michelins on them. Much better (but noisier). I have a tendency to overstear on the 2002 - I like the stearing on the 98 better.

Since buying this automobile we have experinced "0" proplems, except rear left window motor broken. Honda will fix with no problems. Dealership is awsome. Car handles well. plently of leg room. Which we never had with our nissans. Gas mileage around 18-20. This is a outstanding vehicle. Our family is vey happy thanks honda.

The check engine light has been on since we bought the car. The dealership tried 3 times to correct it but finally said the company was aware of the problem and would advise as soon as there was a solution. We are still waiting. We have received 2 recalls on it so far for other minor things. I bought a Honda over other brands because I was looking for a trouble free car. Granted, these are fairly minor problems but I was expecting more. I would not buy another one. I have had Subarus in the past and should have stayed with them.....just didn't like the styling of the Forester.

Althought I do very much like the CRV, its build quality (fit and finish) is not comparable with my 2000 VW golf. The plastic body molding is out of alignment, the tires are not good at all (I've actaully replaced them already), and the cabin noise seems to be on the loud side. I wish it got better mileage as well.

Only thing I don;t like is Honda dealer's using receptionists. I want to talk to my mechanic & not just see his photo on my bill. Soon as my warrantee runs out, I'm going to a garage that let's you see & talk with the "technician". Also, a 20,000 mile checkup with oil change costs $90 at Honda & I got the same thing across the street at a "Tires Plus"for $18.95!

If you want a quiet drive - forget it. The interior is so nosy that I almost have to turn the volume up on the radio full blast. Also no back support in the seat and small 10 gallon gas tank. For you long commuters, the car is very uncomfortable, LOUD on highway, and if you commute more than 40 miles each way you will need to fill your tank every other day. Buyers beware -- when test driving, dealers may have replaced with more expensive tires to cushion and muffle the sound. I am currently looking for another SUV.

Having a Honda name is what lead me to test drive the CR-V. After doing extensive research on Honda and the CR- V, it is how I came to my final decision. The SUV handles shockingly well in icy or snowy conditions. I was amazed after the amount of snow fall we had last winter, how well this vehicle handled. It's almost like driving a car. I would (and have) recommended the CR-V to anyone. It's an excellent vehicle overall. Well worth the money. Everything you can possible want comes standard in it. I will definitely purchase another CR-V for my next vehicle in years to come.

Very happy with my first SUV. Plenty of passenger room and lots of extra room when folding the seats down. Overall comfortable car too. Gas milage is excellent. Plenty of head room. Sunroof is awesome. Love that there's no center console; finally a place for my purse. Dislike hatch doors, so the barn door is great. The 6 disc changes is sweet; wish I had more watts though.

Did a lot of research before purchasing my CR-V. Traded in a Honda Accord V-6. I was really afraid the engine would be a big difference. I was wrong. Little to no difference. Gas mileage did take a dive though. Got better mileage with the V-6 for some reason. My biggest complaints are the loud road noise (due to the bridgestones) and I'm unable to clearly see out the back window due to 3 headrests. I keep the back seats down most of the time since I have few backseat passengers except the dog.

CR-V interior design and mechanical is great but it is an accident waiting to happen. Rear wheels kicking in while turning a corner on ice sends the car into a spin. The same on a wet curvy road w/suggested speed of 30 mph. The car began to skid while slower then suggested speed. When the brakes were used, the car went into a spin. Obviously the rear drive engaged where front-wheel drive alone is the safest. Why design a car without a four-wheel drive override? Why design a car allowing four-wheel drive over 20-35 mph? Insurance companies disallows ABS discounts for "on-demand" all-wheel drive cars. Wonder what they know that the consumers don't?

It's also quite roomy despite what the size looks from the outside. It turns as sharp as you could want. A short wheelbase. Easy to drive. A good car to learn in.

I guess it was my mistake... to go from a 6-cylinder vehicle to a 4-cylinder... but I was guaranteed it was the top of the line 4-cylinder! What I didn't realize was that I would never again be able to pass anyone without literally watching the gas deplete. And, if I have to pass anyone on a hill... well, LOL, that's a different story. I have to turn OFF the AC just to get up enough power to do so. My paint has chipped and rust spots have appeared all over my vehicle. Very disappointed.

It's a year later after purchasing the CRV from Honda and I simply love the ride. There is some noise on the back right side when you go fast, but for the price and value of the other features I have I really can't complain. So many people tell me how nice the car looks, I'm happy with the looks of the Honda CRV also. With the AC on the car does take a little more to get going.

If you are looking for a compact SUV or an alternative to a family car you have to check the CR-V. I got much more than I expected. Acceleration and power are more than adequate for the vehicle. Interior space and storage areas are unmatched in its class. Styling has been much improved in the latest generation. The quality is outstanding for a $18-$19,000 vehicle. Could it use a little here and there, yes, but if your that picky, buy a Lexus or Acura. But, for us middle classers, you can't beat it. Just one thing, get the keyless entry. No power lock button on passenger door is a pain. My keyless entry is on order.

I moved from a 2000 Accord V6 coupe to a manual trans CRV thinking that the this would make road trips, game days easier. Well, it's nice for around town shopping, but any long distance trips, camping trips, etc shows off the limitations. Gas mileage is not that great when you consider that most SUV's with V6's are getting about 20- 24mpg. This vehicule after 14 months of driving could not muster any better then 22mpg. Best thing about the CRV is its strong resale value.

Has plenty of power to make driving fun, but shakes like hell under HARD accelaration. 4WD was engaging/disengaging rapidly? My biggest complaint is that you can't turn the AC off when defrost is on. Found a "hack" on the web that if you pushed butons in a magic sequence you can now turn AC off when in defog. There is serious storage space throughout vehicle. My rear tire brake seized at ~30K miles. Dealer fixed without charge. Getting to the oil filter and fuses are a major pain. My final complaint is that the rear wiper does not go 180 degrees like it should. I think it is an excellent compromise between SUV and car. I am quite happy overall.

I had leased Toyota Rav-4's prior to this lease. We wanted more leg room, and more cargo room but we were not yet ready to make the leap to a larger SUV (mostly due to the extra costs). The CRV is great, tons of leg room for the back seat people, and more cargo room in the back. Still need to take a tire off of one of our mountain bikes to get it in the back, but oh well. Drives well, much less road noise than the Rav- 4 had, but still not silent like a Lexus... Gas milage is okay, but not great, but it has 4 wheel drive, so that must be the reason. All in all, i am very pleased with the Honda CRV, this is my first Honda and I am very impressed.

Other than the bland interior our CR-V has been awesome. We average over 27+mpg with alot of highway. The interior space for cargo and people was a big factor in choosing the CR-V over the Liberty and Rav4. I'm 6'3 and I can sit in the back without my knees hitting the front seat backs. The CR-V is a fun, practical, economical vehicle without the typical SUV liabilities.

We bought the CRV EX with the intent of using it as a second car and tow vehicle behind our RV. It has since become the primary transport vehicle over my wife's 99 EX Accord. We both like the way the car drives and the convenience of a wagon with good back seat and cargo room. I can haul three FULL SIZE golfing buddies and their golf bags without strain and still get 23 - 25 MPG. The car works great as a tow vehicle with all four wheels down. In the year that we have had it, it has only required routine service.

My last 3 cars have been Nissan's, but I wanted to try an SUV, and always liked the features in the CRV, Plus I figured you could not go wrong with a Honda as far as reliability was concerned. Wrong. The car has less than 4ooo miles and I've had to the dealer 4 times for a check engine light problem, the last time smoke was pouring in the car. The interior molding is Cheap! If you even brush by it with a backpack or shoe it's scratched. Carpeting is cheap and piling. And my gas milege is under 20 mpg. I wish I had bought the no- frills Ford explorer for a little bit more, but I am stuck with it. I will never buy another Honda!

Comfortable with plenty of room for all her "stuff". Loves 6CD changer. Good seats with room for adults in the back seats. Loads of storage nooks. EX is loaded and maintains its value. Ours is black and color blends nicely with none metal exterior trim. Dealer was a jerk. Charged for roof rack saying it could not be removed. Caused wind noise as he did not also install shield over the moon roof. Rack was removed in 15 minutes and I was given a refund. Dealer aside. Great car for the money!

My last 3 vehicles were Toyotas and I said I would never get anything else, but after test driving the CR-V and comparing it to the RAV4 I changed my mind. The CR-V is more comfortable, has a smoother ride, and the price was better and included more standard options. Not so good is the noise coming from my brakes. It only happens after the car has been sitting for a while and I push on the brakes for the first time. The dealership said a "clicking or groaning" noise is normal, but I consider it a loud "clunking" noise.

I have had this vehicle for eleven months and have experienced only one problem, the tires. The stock tires are cheap junk. Other than that this is an excellent vehicle for hauling passengers in roomy comfort. The CRV handles well (better tires would help), is comfortable, and the 2.4 liter engine is torquey and accelerates with the best. The transmission can be hard to get into gear when downshifting from second to first or when upshifting the same two gears. The transmission needs some improvement to make shifting smoother.

I have 7,500 miles on mine. Dependable E solid. Quite a bit of wind noise around the A pillar. We barely average 22 mpg in mixed city & highway driving. Storage, the table, & the CD player are great. However, no need for a picnic table - rather have the spare tire there. The 'check engine' light came on after 5,000 miles. At first the dealer was reluctant to look at it and claimed that the problem was due to not tightening the gas cap. I finally took it to the dealer and they adjusted the engine's computer program. No problems since. I also test drove a Ford Escape. Not near as solid, but more cargo space. Quality led me to the CRV.

I bought my CRV "V" new in 2002 I have had zero problems. I would like better lumbar support, larger tires less brake, road noise, and more bass in the stereo. Utility is great I have carried several large items which fit into an exterior that appears too small on the outside but fit inside. The fit and finish are great as is the rear leg room. I still think it is the best sport ute for the money getting the fuel economy it does. I would hate to be my neighbor who owns an suv so large he doesn't drive it but once every few weeks to once a month.

Researched SUV's for about 8 months and finally decided on the CRV after my wife asked me to test drive it. I loved it immediately. When I compared numbers on paper I was even more impressed, I will guarante that you will not find a vehicle in this class/range with the combination of efficiency, safety, reliability, affordability, and fun. Also, don't let some errors in recent advertising deceive you, the CRV tied with Subaru Forester for best in class for safest vehicle by the current IIHS data (www.iihs.org). This is my third Honda purchase (2 Accords previously), you will find better warranties out there, but you won't need one with a Honda.

I purchased my first Honda a little over a year ago. It has been very reliable, gets good gas mileage and is fun to drive. Power is a little weak with the 4cyl engine even with a manual stick. The interior is roomy for four adults and that's about it. Engine is a bit noisey on the highway. I feel safe operating this vehicle. It's not so high off the ground that you need a ladder but the view does improve operating safety I believe.

I have always wanted a CRV, but never liked how they looked. They were very boxy and the interior looked very cheap/basic. Now, in the 2002 CRV they mastered perfection. I wouldn't trade my CRV for a Lexus or BMW SUV. I think the CRV is strong competition for the more expensive luxury SUV's. I will drive this car as long as it will allow me. With Honda's reputation, that will be much more than 10 years from now. HONDA BEST INVESTMENT I EVER MADE!

Everyone who sees and or rides in mine assumes it's a run of the mill $30,000 car instead of a sub $20K one. (Editors never fully seem to appreciated this accessability.) And of course, there's always that piece of mind, in those cold and wintery days, knowing you're in a Honda.

Overall,I love driving our newcrv. My main disappointment is that the gas mileage has not turned out to be as good as posted. I do like the drive and the extra power you put into the vehicle and the side airbags add to my feeling of safety. It takes hills much better now. I love the 6-cd changer. Overall, we are very happy with the vehicle. The only down side is that I think our dealer sells them for too much.

Sante Fe cramped my legs & pinched my butt. The Rav4 was cute, fun, expensive & noisy. The CR-V had the quieter more powerful engine. Paid full, take it or leave it, sticker price. Drove 45 miles just to test drive. It is no where as fun to drive(or look at)as my old Sube but it does zip along even in the mountains. Turning and parking were what finally impressed me. 1500 miles in 5 weeks. No rattles no problems. Just get in & go. MEasy to get in & out of. 24 mpg mixed driving. Road noise was an issue, dealer upgraded the tires. It's plain, it's a Comfortable Runabout Vehicle

Definitely a SUV of choice. I test drove both the RAV4 and the Xterra and neither of them could compare to the practicality of the CRV! The gear shift is a little quirky, and it can get in the way of the radio, but the smoothness of the ride and the reliability of a Honda should overcome that. I've read some comments about a click when coming to a complete stop. I contacted a dealer and they stated it could be from the steering wheel airbag. Other than those minor glitches, a fine car!

Today my one month old CRV stalled twice within a 5 min. period. I drove straight to the dealership only to be told they probably wouldn't be able to find the answer. Turns out there is a "bulletin" about this very problem which requires the computer to be reprogrammed. Uncomfortable seats, frequent fill-ups due to small tank and higher than promised mileage, and loud road noise all add up to sub- par transportation. I miss my Blazer!

Owned 2 Honda Civics (88 & 01) and never thought of getting an SUV (fad/gas guzzlers) but girlfriend wanted an AWD for winter skiing. The 2002 CR-V (EX) Auto is just the perfect choice. At $22.2K (dest charge inc), this CR-V is very solidly built, peppy enough, yet very efficient. It handles well & the ride is comfortable. Road noise is as expected and is more like that of a Honda Civic than an Accord.

The CRV's build quality is equal to that of the $40K BMW that also resides in my garage. I hear claims of excess road noise from the CRV, but I'm yet to detect them, I suggest other reviewers take a test drive in another car and make a relative rather than an absolute evaluation (or stay off secondary roads and out of the northern states). Overall, a perfect car for city and highway driving, sure it can't accelerate to 100 in 4 seconds, but where are you going to use that kind of performance. It's the thinking mans car. Put the money you save into your kids education.

Good value. Roomy at rear, comfy at front. Good support for the torso on turns. Surprisingly quiet with open moon-roof even at 70 mph. 6-cd sounds good. Fuel light on after 270-290m, but only 11.6g fits, so 4g is there, enough for ~80m. Fuel economy is ok. On 4700m trip mean fuel consumption was 26.6mpg. Rear differential leaks after 9000m, fixed at 10000m service. Since than (12000+)-ok. Useless on deep sand - wheels are digging in instead of rolling over. 4w drive working good, very confident drive over puddles on hw - it pushing from back when front loosing grip. ABS working ok. Acceleration is good, esp.at 5000-5500 rpm. No feeling of underpower, quiet.

The Escape was going to be my next vehicle, but the revised CRV stole the purchase. It has the ride height, cargo area, and (just) enough power for someone who wants the small SUV experience but does not go off-road. In addition, the automated part time AWD provides a comforting extra level of traction. Do not be fooled by the 4cyl engine, as this is quite probably the most sophisticated among mini-SUVs, with 160hp and 162 lbs. torque. If you have already experienced the last CRV, please head back to the dealer and update yourself with another test drive. For my $20K, the CRV cannot be beat.

I used to own 2000 Mitsubishi Montero sport and I traded in for the CRV. Good handling, acceleration, braking and very comfortable in long trips. When I get to a complete stop and I go reverse then I apply the breaks I hear a clunking noise. I called the several dealers and they told me that is a Honda new break design to increase the break ventilation. I am not sure if I buy that explanation, but again I do not know any one else that has the same car. I would appreciate any feedback. Overall great SUV for the money and fun to drive. I totally recommend it.

I purchased my CRV on 08/12/02 and drove it in the snow for the first time on the way to work this morning. 09/20/02 and it handles really well in the snow. It shifts so smooth that I couldn't tell when it shifted into Four (4) wheel drive. I love the traction and the fuel mileage that I'm getting with my CRV. We have nine months of snow, however, I think my CRV will be up to the challenge of our tough winters. I'm getting between 26 and 28 miles per gallon on the road and about 22 mpg in the city.

At first glance, I loved the 2002. The CR-V is a hoot to drive and compared to my two previous Accords, the power is fine for me. Don't need to tow with it, I'll let my Chevy truck handle that. The CR-V is a daily commuter in all types of weather and a weekend mountain hopper. At 600 miles, no problems to mention(knock on wood) and figured milage out at just at 25 mpg. Very satisfied with my choice.

I was less than impressed by the power of the previous version, but liked the quality and versatility. The new model is a whole level beyond the 2001 model and I feel has been underrated by the "editors" on the Edmunds site. The power is almost V6-like in most applications and the handling is very competent if not exciting. I fault the somewhat low fuel economy and road noise as less than excellent. The door rub guards actually serve a purpose. I found no problem with the cup holders as indicated in the editor review nor tire performance. Quality is first rate as is the "feel" of the vehicle. Solid, fun, and very capable.

Decent vehicle, reasonably priced, good mpg, nice features, comfortable and roomy with plenty of config options. Opted for the LX over the EX as I don't need a window in my roof to rob head room (and / or leak). Ummmm, don't expect to be crashing thru snowbanks and driving unplowed roads at 60mph in this vehicle - never been stuck but the car has a tendency to fishtail on icy/snow conditions (face it kids, this doesn't happen that often so don't rule the CR-V out just because of my comment -- AWD is not an excuse for lack of intelligent driving).

I noticed on the way home from picking it up that it pulled to the right. The dealer has had it twice-aligned it twice-once with the additional spec from corporat. I cannot drive it yet without it wandering to the next lane, on any road, at any speed. I am only getting 18 mpg. The dealer said it would take 10,000 miles to break in the engine, and would not address the low mpg. There is only 700 miles on the vehicle. I have now noticed quite a few other people having this problem, with no real solution from Honda Corporate. This is my third Honda, and I cannot honestly recommend the CRV-EX to anyone, even though I am sure there are many satisfied customers out there.

It's a great value and those of you looking into the Explorer or comparable sized vehicles should check out the CR-V. It has a ton of space and is much better on gas than an Explorer. About the only reason I could think to opt for something bigger would be towing. You don't get a good towing capacity with the CR-V, although its load capacity is equal to or greater than some larger SUV's.

I drove it with two friends down to Daytona Beach, Florida, for a reptile expo/show - not an easy drive. Were were all impressed as to how well the CR-V handled, even at 95mph! It handles a lot like a car, very sporty and comfortable in any seat. I also drove it up to the Northern Georgia mountains, called Flat Top Mountain. One of the trails up to the hiking area is called a "jeep trail" (steep inclines, narrow paths, water bogs, loose wet/moldy rocks and fallen tree limbs). Believe it or not, the CR-V made it up and down this 1.65 mile jeep trail (each way) like a complete champ. I just popped into low gear and it was unstoppable.

After an extensive search for a vehicle (I took my time, wasn't in a hurry) I picked the 2002 Honda CR-V EX as my first choice and after several weeks, I know I made the best choice. This vehicle is comfortable, easy and fun to drive, attractive, roomy, and has plenty of power. The CR-V 4cyl holds its own and gets better fuel mileage than the vehicle with a V6 I traded in. For me, that's important. When compared to competing vehicles, the CR- V is clearly the winner.

I've only had the CR-V for about 10 days...it's a 4-WD EX. The design is great and it's real comfortable. The only thing that bothers me is the fact the the brakes are already making weird cracking noises when I'm driving. I've taken the car to the dealership a couple of times and they couldnt find anything wrong with it. Other than that, the drive is kind of nosy + the audio system isnt too great. I had a 2000 CIVIC b4 switching to the CR-V and now I think the CIVIC was probably a better buy.

There were wagons out there that were more sporty (Mazda Protege5, Subaru Outback Sport), there were wagons that were cheaper (Hyundai Santa Fe), there were wagons that had fabulous exteriors (PT Cruiser),and others with more plush interiors, but none had so many excellent qualities in as many areas as the CR-V. The CR-V is a wonderfully balanced vehicle in terms of comfort, price, reliability, utility, and features. Its pleasant to drive and more importantly its going to be pleasant to own over the years. Simply said its the perfect vehicle for a small family.

We have driven our new 2002 crv for 2000 miles and just love it so far. Getting 26 mpg combined driving. Engine very strong for it's size. Transmission shifts really smooth and at just the right times. Nice quiet ride except for some road noise from tires. Handles extremely well with little or no lean in corners. Nice center feel to the steering.

After 8000 miles, we love our CRV. Drove 13 hours on vacation in a day with no problems. We have not had any problems at all with this SUV. Comfortable and roomy. I wish acceleration was a little quicker, but it's a trade off for good mileage. Lot of storage places. We finally figure out the best use for the compartment below the radio is as a french fry holder.

I had several bad experince on this car. The first problem was there's a burning smell on the engine. Dealer said its normal for new vehicle. The smell went away only after 10K miles (or got used to it). The second problem is the clicking noise whenever I hit the breaks the first time after its park for a few hours. Dealer says that's normal. #$#@!! Anyway, I'm stuck with it so I'll mention its a nice drive.

I just bought the crv for 2 days. Already there're defective noises in the rear (right) whenever I press the brakes. Moreover, I have found out that the front passenger's door handle is missing an internal plastic part. Does Honda really build cars so good that they command higher prices when compared to their peers? I don't think so.

Like our old Accord, the CR-V handles very well. It's actually a lot of fun to drive quickly. However, the main reason I got this car is for its practicality. As parents of a young child, we were really looking for a durable family car, and the CR-V delivers. The car is extremely well designed inside and out. It's also much roomier (especially in the back seat) than the Escape and Rav4, both of which I have ridden in several times. Combine that with the 4WD and you've got a terrific all-weather family car. The smooth, high cubic-inch 4 cylinder is plenty for everyday drving and gets better gas mileage than a 6.

Upon researching all the available midsize & small SUV's on the market for 3 months, I finally came upon this little jewel. I didn't consider it at first, because I had seen the older models on the road and didn't like the way they looked; it looked too small. I discovered that the 2002 models were redesigned on a Friday, test drove it on the following Monday, and purchased it on Tuesday. I have no regrets with my purchase.

Lot's of small problems, engine light (fixed on third dealer visit), noise in headliner (fixed after two visits), noise in drivers door (working on a fix), drivers seat rocking back and forth (fixed after four visits), headrests coming up by themselves (no fix) and last but not least, rattling noise in the sunroof (taken to dealer seven times, noise still there, told by Honda "it's normal for SUV to make noise like that") All in all, the car spent 1 month at dealers out of nine month that I had it. The dealer in this case tried everything possible to resolve the issues, but Honda did not even called me back after several complaints.

The head rests, both front and back seats, interfer with looking over your shoulder when back, to see if you are clear. I took the rear seat ones out, but the front seat still cause a problem. The handle of the gear shift on the dash, should be a different shape. I am still not convinced it shoudl be where it is. Would rather have the tire inside, where the table currently is.

My CRV has performed well in city driving and on the super highways. I like the storage room in it and it is a good size for my needs. The AC works well and it gets good mileage when travelling on the interstates. There is however a loud humm that comes at about 37 MPH-40 MPH. The dealer does not seem to be able to figure out the problem. I also would like more leg room for the driver. My major concern is merging into traffic on the interstate. The car does not have enough power so that I feel like I am going to create an accident or be in one myself.

Also, when I drive it in reverse it makes a whining sound...not sure yet if this is normal or not. (it is an automatic transmission) Anyone else out there have that problem? All in all it is a wonderful vehicle.

I had a Toyota Camry but wanted something with a little higher profile so decided on a RAV4-couldn't make a deal though so I checked out the competition and discovered the CR-V, which is roomier and has more standard features than the RAV4. I'm so glad I checked it out. It's got a peppy 4cyl engine that likes to go and a smoother ride than I was expecting from an SUV- it's not trucklike at all. I loved my Camry for its smooth, quiet ride and this vehicle is not comparable in those areas but it is more fun to drive.

My husband and I awaited the release of the bigger, more powered 2002 CRV, as our 99 was underpowered and shifted way too poorly for our mountain living. The 2002 shifts like a gem, little if any transmission noise. Interior is much more comfortable and intuite, although the auto shifter takes a bit getting used to. All the Honda reliability, unique features and great mielage for an SUV. We are very happy with this buy.

Honda never ceases to amaze me. I am a new CR-V owner after making the mistake of owning a Saturn product for years. After driving my CR-V for several weeks, I am sold on its quality, performance, design, and all around value. If you really look at the build quality of this SUV versus competing models, it is hard to beat. If you buy on the basis of price...you are going to get what you pay for. It comes with more standard features and 10 years from now it will still be going strong. Are there cheaper mini-utes out there? Sure...but I promise you this...you will get what you pay for.

We've waited until after 10,400 miles in about 4 months. The thrill of buying a new vehicle has worn off, and reality has set in. Overall, we still think we got a great vehicle. We had the dealer to install: 1. window visors 2. mudflaps 3. a hard spare wheel cover (This was a major disappointment. The new hard cover for 2002 is nothing more than a "trash can lid". Save your money and go with the standard fabric cover - its not only cheaper - but it looks nicer. Small dings are in the hard plastic used to cover the columns near the doors - caused by unbuckling the seat belt and just letting it fly back on its own speed.

I agree with many of the other reviews. After much research, mostly at edmunds.com, I felt the CR-V (LX) was the best vehicle on paper. Finding one for sale at a decent price was almost impossible (I had to pay MSRP, and felt lucky at that). Great ride; very car-like, not as "busy" or choppy as the RAV-4. Engine is quiet, smooth and NO TIMING BELT! Great leg room, especially in back. Plenty of room with fold-up seats

I love my new Honda Crv so much...I have not found one thing wrong with it. It has a lot of power, the design is beautiful inside and out. I looked at the Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and the Toyota Rav 4...and the CRV beat them all. I did have to pay sticker price though, they wouldn't come off even $10...and basically said, if I didn't want to pay that, someone else would so they did't care much. They are being sold before they are even on the lot! The wait is about 3 weeks. I think the Crv's are well worth the msrp price. I highly recommend this vehicle!

My Husband loves this vehicle. He says it fits like a glove and couldn't be more comfortable. I am short and find that the headrest are bothersome to me. Also the seats have wings on the back and I find that to be somewhat uncomfortable on my arms and back. I think the seats could be softer also since it is a pricier mini SUV. So the seats are my only real complaint. Great otherwise!!

We love our Honda CRV. A few things do bother us. We also took out our rear center head rest due to visability problems. Interior plastic shows all finger prints & smudge marks. and my biggest complaint is the fuel tank. it never takes more than 12 gallons of fuel. Instead of having a much higher cruising range we only get less than 275 total miles on a tankfull. I hate the constant gas tank fillups. My wife loves the crv and we would get another one if we had to do it over again. engine light had also come on in 2 instances.

Did extensive safety research, and the 2002 CR-V and the subaru forrester topped all lists. Test drove both (plus the Toyota offerings: Highlander and the RAV4) -- fell in love with the CR-V. Subaru drives like a station wagon. CR-V drives like a much more powerful car. It's zippy and peppy. Ordered the standard, though, since the automatic shifted a little weird between 2nd and 3rd. Gas mileage decent (high 20s). Kid and 2 big dogs have plenty of room.

I liked the car overall. I did not purchase it though unfortunately because the dealer lied to us about the price all the way up until we were about to sign the contract, by an amount of nearly $2000.00. Luckily, I found it while getting ready to sign the final contract. I kept asking to see the price that I was being offered for my trade in and they said, "no problem, your trade in will be at that price or more." This was a LIE! Just a reminder to anyone out there--be sure that you like your carsalesman or woman from the beginning. If you do not, don't hestitate to switch.

The 2002 Honda CR-V has been improved in every area that was lacking in the previous model. Engine has more power, transmission shifts smoothly, seats have great support, ride is not bumpy, power window buttons located on doors. The three dial climate controls are easy to see and use. Every button and is easy to reach without distraction. Rear seats fold up in a snap to add cargo room and head rests no longer need to be removed. Better sound proofing for quite ride. Excellent dash compartments to store things. Over all body stiffness is gone from old CR-V. Less rattles, aerodynamic doors and body. I'm getting 24 mpg city/highway combined.

Very impressed with the vehicle. Having owned three Explorers and one Trooper, was looking to the Ford Escape. Checked out the CRV when the Ford dealer could not come through on a 4WD unit in Texas. I am so happy he did not. The CRV has standard ABS (option on Ford). Drives much better than the truck like feel of the Escape, and much better mileage than the Jeep Liberty. My kids think the rear seat has more room than the 2000 Explorer I retired.

Traded a 2000 Honda SE CR-V for the 2002 Honda EX CR-V. Improved at all levels. Larger interior, much more power, and a much improved ride. Never had one thing wrong with the 2000 and I expect this same dependability with the 2002. They (at this point) are very scarce and the dealer has a better position in bargaining. My fourth Honda and they have all been the same - flawless!

This is a nice mini SUV to have. We traded in a Windstar with a V6 for this 4 banger CRV and the CRV feels more powerful while being quieter doing it. Shortly after buying this vehicle we drove it from Ohio to Florida down through the mountains and and this SUV far out ran many other cars through the mountains using the cruise control. Of course this would never top my V6 Accord on level ground it does hold it own. Interior is comfortable, and ride is still smooth with easy turning and parking raduis. No trouble parking this small-ute. Four wheel kicks in nice on slick roads with out jolting into gear. Nice all around product.

I had a 1999 CRV - then went to a new Accord - missed the CRV for utility - What a difference from the 1999. Had a problem in the beginning with the ABS light coming on - ended up getting the entire ABS assembly replaced. Dealer was perplexed. No problem since - but it was an expensive (to the dealer) fix. Avant garde attempt with the gear shifter - but it does get in the way of the radio controls - I noticed a couple of people mentioning the clicking sound when you shift in and out of gear when stopped - took it in to dealer for that - they said this noise is typical for the car and nothing to worry about. Let's hope.

We've had the new CR-V/EX since April, and it's proven very capable all 'round. It carries 6'4" passengers comfortably (even in the rear seat), loads of gardening supplies, and provides a nicely versatile cargo compartment. Storage spaces are everywhere, which is really cool. Ride is excellent, quiet, and amazingly refined for a vehicle which is essentially a Civic on steroids. It exhibits a slight amount of torque- steer on hard acceleration from stop, but other than that it drives wonderfully. Priced just right, with a good feature set.

We purchased the new CRV for our growing family (new baby in July!). We were sold on the safety features and the numerous extras that came with the EX model. It passed its first test when we had to stuff a dresser in it, the seats flipped up beautifully and everything fit! The 6-disc cd changer is a bit noisy as it switches and I would love it if Honda would put in heated seats (like a comparably priced Subaru does). And why no daytime running headlights? We are happy with the acceleration and power. We looked at the Ford Escape, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Jeep Liberty. Honda was the best value for space, options and price all-around.

This is a very good all-purpose vehicle. I have a commuter car, weekend junk hauler and a good long-distance vehicle rolled into the '02 CR-V. I am still being annoyed by the "engine light" problem when the outside temp. is below 60 degrees F. Also, I've been getting less than advertised mileage. I use a K&N air filter and drive reasonably. My mileage is 21~23 city and 25~27 hwy. To Honda: Truth in Advertising.

I chose this type of vehicle because I wanted my bicycle to fit inside, standing upright. It was important to me to keep both the outside dimensions and price as small as possible. The CRV was my best choice after looking at the Escape and RAV 4. The list price was $19,260 and I was able to get $560 off. I wonder if buyers will get better deals as time goes by. This is my first foreign vehicle and am looking forward to the "legendary" Honda quality and durablity. So far so good except for intermittant light on dash board for engine emissions problem.

If want a mini off-road vehicle then don't buy a CRV. However, if you want a versatile, fun-to-drive, economical and surprisingly spacious mini-SUV, the CRV cannot be beat. Save yourself a few thousand and buy the 2WD LX model. It still has a lot of nice features and handles fine on steep dirt roads. You can purchase most of the useful Honda add-ons like security, keyless entry, enhanced sound system, etc. by buying these items through the web and installing them yourself. I purchased the car through a broker who charged me the Edmund's Invoice price plus $700. The total price was still less than MSRP. I've been driving this car for 2 months and have had no regrets. Way to go Honda!

This great SUV is just the right size. Big enough to carry 5 adults or a large amount of cargo, but small enough to be easy to drive, park in compact spaces, and fit in my garage. The big 4 cylinder engine/transmission combination is smooth and powerful, and feels like a small 6 cyliner. Visibility out the front is excellant, but out the rear is somewhat limited by the spare tire. Ride and handling is a little firm but acceptable for a SUV. Honda biggest mistake was not producing the EX version with 2 wheel drive.

I would have never bought the old CRV. The NEW CRV, however, is competitive to anything out on the market---and I've test drove the Forrester, Escape, Tribute, and RAV4. It's got pretty good zip, though you're not going to win any races. Interior has ample room---I'm 6', and have plenty of leg and head room. I didn't like paying MSRP, but still I got the EX (top of the line) with trailer hitch and roof rack extras for less than what I would have paid for a car with like features from Ford, Mazda, Subaru, and Toyota---plus I love that I have Honda quality. I plan to keep this one for a long time.

The fake 'dead-pedal' is poorly designed for your clutch-foot. The EX manual has no armrest in front! The stereo is too far away for anyone shorter than an NBA star - changing CD tracks requires you lean over as if you are getting something out of the glove box. The front seats could use more bolstering. The carpet is awfully cheap. The headliner rattles. The power windows on the CR-V won't operate in the auxiliary key positions. I’ve experienced some torque steer under high-powered starts. The stereo needs more power. The tailgate is rather unwieldy.

All of the others were V- 6's that I test drove, none of them had the ZIP that the CRV had, and its a V- 4. The car is spacious and plenty of legg room for passengers. Spent the past many weeks searching reviews, and test driving vehicles. Drove the Escape, Vue and CRV. Honda ended up being the lowest cost, packed with the most features and best fuel economy. Found that by purchasing the vehicle outside Calgary in High River, I saved over $1,000 on the best price any local dealer would provide. Used carcostcanada.com and paid the subscription fee to find the actual dealer invoice. For $50, it saved me over $1,500!!! Also found that demand at Saturn is very high, so they are not motivated to deal on trades or price.

My wife and I looked at various "small SUVs" and picked the 2002 Honda CRV because of it's reliability, looks, added features, and economy. It is a real blast to drive. Very impressive 4 banger engine that get the CRV out of it's own way. Gas economy is excellant. I have read where people get around 15-16 mpg and I have only one thing to say to them. Either take you foot from the floorboarding the gas pedal or get your CRV fixed. We get around 21 around town and 26 on the highway with 87 octane gas. We love this vehicle!

Very responsive steering. Eases in and out of corners. The passenger's cabin is *very* quiet. Ride is very smooth. The car just feels well built. For a so called "mini SUV" this thing has nearly as much interior leg room than the mid-size Toyota Highlander. For the money I don't think you can buy a better mini SUV. Some new CR-Vs are being delivered with a slight steering problem. Like mine, they pull to the right about 5- 10 degrees. To make a long story short, after showing the dealer some complaints from others on the 'net who have experienced the same problem he agreed to do a 4-wheel alignment which fixed the problem. Speakers are weak with mid-range frequencies.

The CR-V is the best value for CUV's under the sun (Cute Utility Vehicle). It is not meant to be an off roader. Honda does not pretend it to be so. It will function as a great all weather family and stuff hauler, campground and tailgate tool and do this all with great fuel economy (comparatively), low emissions, easy maintenance and it will do all of this for a reasonable price. The resale will also be outstanding.

The new CRV has real pep - transmission seems to get the most out of the engine, including acceleration at highyway speed. Stable too, supposedly because of 500 lbs of steel strengthening the frame. Moonroof is also quite welcome. Nice to have "options" standard. Car not seduce you with design or style; it wins you over with sheer practical appeal. Dash is very easy to use. Wonderful for hauling from flat floor to great fold-down seats without removing headrests. The walk-thru is super. Only wrinkle is that I seem to get 19mpg around town... highway is more like 23 at best. The car also needs a deadpedal to rest the left foot. But it's an easy car to live with.

I was heartbroken when we had to trade our 98 Cherokee in for a CRV - I was loyal Jeep driver since I was 14. The market is flush with over-powered off-road vehicles. We just need enough car to get us through the snow and haul some mulch and baby stuff without needing a second mortgage for gasoline. Honda has met a long-needed segment of the market - relatively fuel efficient, all-wheel-drive vehicles which are reliable and spacious. Of course, it's a Honda, so it's nearly bullet-proof.

Our experience with the 2002 Honda CRV has been amazing. The CRV has a very solid feel about it, build quality is outstanding. It has plenty of power to merge with traffic & can hum right along at 70 mph. The CRV can make turns that are nearly 90 degrees from a stop with a quick turn of the wheel. The interior space of the CRV is cavernous. We hauled a large dryer after folding up the rear seats and a recliner in back WITHOUT folding them up. The front 3 cup holders can all handle McDonalds' Supersized sodas. This dependable little bugger fits in perfectly for most families & won't break the bank with a top price under $23k. This is by far the best of the bunch in the Mini-Ute Class.

I once had a Civic that I loved. But then I "grew up" to a full-sized SUV that handled like a dump truck. Then I settled into a luxury sedan, but I missed the spacious SUV. The RAV-4 had an interior that felt very cheap (the salesman said the plastic was "expensive"). The Escape almost got me, but "built Ford tough" seems to mean "seats made of stone." I’d dismissed the CR-V after one dealership asked for a deposit just to test drive. A few days later, I drove by another dealership the day a big shipment arrived. After the test drive, the CR-V hooked me. I love it. Still enough pick-up to merge, plenty of room for five and all of those little things that makes Hondas terrific.

I bought CRV 2002 2WD-Auto on Jan2002. It has noisy tires. Clicking noise when starting forward and reverse, and at the complete stop. Dirt makes permanent marks in interior. Seatbelt hits interior when release and makes permanent mark in material. Never pay MSRP,make your offer firmly and dealer is GOING to come to your price, DON'T hasitate the walk out if they don't come to your price. KEEP in mind that there are dealers to give you good deal. Never buy in January and buy car at the end of year. 2002 is going to be cheaper when 2003 comes out in mid-summer. Sincerely,

I compared the CR-V to everything in its class and couldn't find anything worth a look. The 160 hp 4 cyl. motor has plenty of power and feels more like a V6 than a 4. Most of the major reviews on the CR-V listed "No available V6" under "CONS." Yes they are correct but I don't see need for a V6. Lets face it, your not intending to do a lot of hauling or pulling if your in the market for a MINI SUV? The All Wheel Drive is also a perfect fit for a vehicle of this type since regular 4 wheel drive is only used a small percentage of the time unless you live in a pretty nasty part of the country. So why pay all that $$$$$$ and not be able to use it?

Bought my CR-V EX a few weeks ago and I love it. I wanted EX and most I could get off MSRP was $500. So my brother found a demo model with 5,000 miles with a roof rack .....I got 1500 off MSRP with the roof rack. I think I got a good deal. People don't pay sticker....they will give at least 300 off. Trust me I called every honda dealer in new york new jersey area. So far i love this car. Only complaints is this whisling noise (sounds like wind) i hear when driving on highway....anyone else have a problem with that??? Maybe a small air leak in sunroof?????? Otherwise it is so smooth and quiet.

This vehicle is awesome! The new Honda crv-2002 perfoms great. This vehicle is especially comfortable to drive. It literally purrs like a kitten. BUT, I and many other consumers wish and hope for future off-road endurance. I wish the 2002 Honda-CRV had just a little more off-road capability.

The CR-V is horribly underpowered. It creeps up to highway speeds and in traffic that means I'm not so much in the flow but in the way. Weird steering wheel angle. Even though the wheel can be moved up or down, it is still an uncomfortable driving position. The cup holders need something to hold the beverages in place. Going around a corner, even at low speeds, beverages fall out. So far the best cup holders I have seen were in a Dodge truck. The holders had an adjustable arm that could slide open and close to fit any size beverage, and very sturdy holding power at any turning speed.

This is one solid vehicle. The 4 cylinder 160 HP engine has great low end power, and it is faster then the Ford Escape's V6 model. The engine is very smooth, very quiet, and very refined. It pulls 1,500 lbs trailer like it was nothing. The auto transmission shifts smooth as silk. The build quality is fantastic, and you can tell the engineers put lots of thought and imagination into designing the interior.

I'm a previous Accord/Civic/3 time Passport Owner. The 2002 CRV attracted my attention when they redesigned the interior/exterior and made it more powerful. I too experience the clicking noise and really notice it when at a drive-up MAC machine or in the drive thru at McD's or BK. What is this Honda???? The front passenger side got cheated for leg room but; hey, I never sit there... I love the reclining rear seats! The CRV has lots more storage room than the Passport. I still have not experienced the listed gas mileage. I trust Honda's reliability because I do not have time to take a vehicle to the shop!

This vehicle drives and rides so much better than the competitors. The power is there...much more than the gas hog Liberty and the considerably better than the Escape(why get a mini-suv with full size suv mileage. I considered the features the price the different levels of build quality and the drastic difference in reliability and I do not understand why anyone would get past the preliminary invesigation of the other vehicles. Advice to Honda..Make More CRVs and let people test drive them. I had to put a deposit on mine while some of my friends bought what was available i.e. Fords or Jeeps and now they wish they had waited.

Compared all small SUBs,and felt CRV superior in all aspects including price. Every three months I am very pleased with it overall, but do have a major concern. I cannot get comfortable in driver's seat. I am only 5'8" but no matter how I tilt back I am uncomfortable within a few minutes. It may be the lumbar (I would like to be able to turn it off) or the the contour of the seat. I have tried a variety of seat cushions but none of them have signicantly helped. As much as I like how it handles and drives, I am concerned about my level of comfort on a long trip.

A great car for all ages.

I was drawn by the exceptional improvements over the 2001. The rear wheel disc brakes, metal timing chain, greater interior space, the 100,000 tune-ups, and the greater engine size/power, for the 2002 left the 2001 CRV in the dust.

I researched all the small suv's and found the cr-v to offer the most. Other reviews have complained about the engine size - it is plenty powerful enough for my needs. Others have complained about excessive road noise - this is not the case with mine. It is one of quietest cars I've been in. I think bigger wheels and better tires would make a difference, but it is very comfortable driving. The quality of Honda shows thru and thru with this cr-v. Rough roads do make some difference in noise and ride, but nothing that is unacceptable. Like the parking brake position and will eventually get used to gear shift on dash. This is the suv to buy!

I had a 1998 Honda Passport (LX). Before that, I had owned 'true' Honda's. I was not happy with my Passport and traded it in for the 2002 Honda CR-V (EX). The difference between the two are like night and day. The CR-V ride is much more like a car. The Passport was noisy, and drove like an old pickup truck. Great handling. Nice strong engine through all gears (can't believe its a 4). Very large interior. Comfortable seats. Plenty of cargo room; lots more with the seats flipped up. Around town 24 MPG. Paint and exterior detail is perfect - even in cracks and crevices. Smooth, positive ride. Road noise is minimal. Doors close like an airtight vault. The only problem is that I'm still talking to myself about paying list price, $22,740.

It has a few drawbacks: a) Fuel Inefficient (15 in the city, 20 highway) for last two months. b) The folding table broke without anything on it! Tip for using it: never use handle to lift it up. Just slowly pop it up, from the middle. c) Paint crack: I just saw it on the hood last night.... covered under the warranty? d) Front foot room - already mentioned: exhausting during long drives. BTW Angelica; the noise experienced is due to gear selector being blocked/released, at higher speeds.

Extremely happy with the CRV EX with manual. The ride is comfortable without being Detroit bouncy. Steering feedback is pretty good and it is very quiet. The EX comes with just about every option most people would want, but the remaining options are pricey. Performance is excellent considering it is a 4 banger - the equal of the Escape unless you have to tow 5,000 pounds. You cannot get a stick with the Escape unless you accept Ford's lawn mower engine. After 3 months, still zero defects!

My wife actually bought the 2002 CRV LX model. We test drove several SUV's, from the Isuzu Rodeo to the Toyota RAV4. The Honda CRV gave us the most comfort, less noise, more power, and easy handling. At first we did not like the gear shift location, but we soon over looked the location. Overall, we feel it was the best value for the money. And with the great gas millage and the cost of gas, it makes sense to buy a fuel economy veichle.

Comfort: I'm a 6 footer and I do seem to have a problem with the driver seat position/contour. After only a few minutes I feel the unpleasant sensation of my legs circulation being cut off. Couldn't be happier with our 2002 CRV 5 speed EX. Highly recommend the 5 speed as it is fun, smooth and adds a lot of spunk. The engine power is perfect. The size of the vehicle suits our needs - not too small, not too big. The CRV is much roomier, sportier, and quick and than the Accord I traded. Very quiet, too. No complaints here other than having had to pay list price.

Owned 97 CRV for 5 years. New 2002 vehicle is an improvement in ride, comfort, quietness, power and room. Only complaint is a place to put my left foot comfortably. Also the tires are noisy so I replaced them with Michelin X One's(good for 80000 miles). Now a huge difference in handling and quietness. Also replaced the cheap paper cone speakers , added a subwoofer in rear and amp under drivers seat and have improved the sound 100%.

I just have one thing to say about MD's review. If you wanted a Buick, why did you by a Honda? What one driver interprets as a lousy ride another will call a great ride. It's called vehicle feedback and it's the one thing a driver requires to interact with the vehicle while driving. The best example is a race car driver and his race car.

Got a 2002 5 speed EX, traded in a 97 Accord. I wanted something bigger, higher, sportier & more flexible than my Accord. The CRV has the power and size to be a step up from my boring old Accord; the 2001 CRV was lacking. I am happy with everything. The 5 speed is fun (also eliminates any complaints about the dash shifter), plenty of perk & all the gadgets exceed my expecations. I paid sticker & waited 3 weeks. A lot of truck/car for $22,000!

This vehicle seems to do it all. It has the cargo room of a larger SUV, but drives and feels like a car--really! After 2 weeks with the CR-V, this mini-ute truly exudes a solid, well crafted feel. The quality of the materials and parts are evident as well as the excellent engineering. There is a reason why Honda does not have to advertise their superb quality...everyone knows it after driving any Honda. Like Edmunds.com states, "Drive it, you'll like it."
