This car is a gem. I've driven it from 55K to 130K in 4 years, and I've had only minor repairs (O2 sensor, lock actuators), plus 4 new struts. The front seats are so good that even a long drive on the stiff suspension feels fine, and the car handles smoothly and well on windy roads, in rain, in wind, even pretty well in snow. The engine has a terrific balance of torque and smooth operation up 75MPH, without having to downshift all the time -- but they should have included a 6th gear; at 80MPH, its revving high and loud at about 4000RPM, which gets tiresome and wastes gas if you're keeping up with fast traffic (e.g., Atlanta). I've fit a mid-sized armchair in the hatch, and had 2 adults ride in the back for an hour (it was cramped, but doable).

Little car.....HUGE FUN!!!

I just bought this magnificent car and instantly fell in love with it!!!.... of course I've owned four other Honda's prior to this one and I am a Honda fanatic!!! Ever since the movie series "Fast and Furious" came out when i was a teenager who was just starting to drive, I instantly became immersed into Japanese cars, more in particularly Honda. For the next three years i wished and dreamed of owning my first honda and on a day seemed for doom with $8k at my side i finally found my first honda.... a 93 Honda del sol with a jdm gsr swap mildly built! When i happily paid the guy the $7500 cash for it, which i drove four hours to get, i felt like i was dreaming!!! With this first honda so many feelings immersed me, but mainly an overwhelming sense of joyous pride....HONDA PRIDE!!! The first 48 hours i owned this car i did NOT get out of it, I drove it everywhere and slept in it the first night in it! Fast forward ten years later and three hondas more in my belt, ive always dreamed of the ep3 si hatchback, in particular a black one with white wheels. On one morning before work I found my next baby....a black 2002 Honda Civic Si Hatchback with white wheels and mildly modded with all bolt ons, a k-pro tuning system, and aftermarket suspension. The week leading up to the buy of my life was the longest week of my life but the day finally came! A day that seemed to evade me for years was finally upon myself and quickly seemed to be set for failure, everything and anything seemingly went wrong...uuuntil... it seemed the Honda Gods smiled down upon myself and made this car destined to be mine! I finally made the 1.5 hour trek to the car...there she sat like the most gorgeous sexiest girl in school back in my high school days...the transfers took place and within the first few moments sitting in the seats of this seemingly rare gem of a Honda ( don't see many if any of this particular models around anymore )my pulse sped up, palms got sweaty just as when i bought and drove my gsr swapped del sol the first time, and in my head all i could hear was the song from the honda commercial with the car driving through the car engineers head and the lyrics all about the thrill of it playing in my head....then with a turn of the magic key there she purred, so elegantly she looked just absolutely astounded i gently pulled out and onto the road, a road that this car was destined for like the curvy roads of a mountainous Japanese back road! I hit the gas and so smoothly glided the s bends and nineties like it was nothing, so with the car seemingly begging for more i gave it full throttle and she ran through that road like a thorough bred horse at the Kentucky Derby! This car is an absolute amazing car, but so is any Honda in my opinion! For only being a 2002 this car was way ahead of its time with all the instrumentation, the cars sleek design is way ahead of its time, the changes made with K series motors and ivtec, this car is an absolute positively beauty!!! Honda you have really nailed it as you always do, and you were my favorite when i was 15 and still so fifteen years later with my new ep3, which by the way only has 60,000 miles, and Honda you will always be my favorite car manufacturers!!! To anyone and i mean ANYONE looking to find something thats reliable, fun to drive, sporty, and has great pop, go look at one of these or any Honda for that matter and test drive it an BUY IT!!! Im really looking forward to the much anticipated Civic Type R to come out but while i admire from afar i will be smiling ear to ear driving this gem for the next 5-10 years easily!!! Moreover in short, this car is as close to perfection as you can get, now dont get me wrong its not as fast as a lambo or bugatti but its got plenty of pop n power for only being a little four banger, but with some serious mods you can make a honda faster such as my buddies seafoam color eg hatch that runs 8.68 in the quarter mile at 175mph! So for all the haters out there....yes ANY Honda has loads and loads of potential!!!

They Keep on Running

I had bought a 4 door 2002 Honda civic DX that was practically given to me and that car is a trooper it went through two accidents from previous owners and after a few repairs it runs as if nothing happened. The car is reliable and very compact thus it has great gas mileage. Just the other day I took it to the next city 30 miles to get there and 30 miles to come back and the gas needle did not even move for like two days then after that it continued to move down like it normally does. I did not have to fill up on gas for a couple of days. My only complaint is that it takes a few extra seconds for it to pickup speed and it makes this noise but apparently it is normal. Another thing is the steering is not a smooth as other cars and it has nothing to do with the power steering. I had a 1994 Nissan Sentra and the steering on that was so smooth. Those are my only small complaints. I see these cars everywhere. My co worker has a beat up version of my car and my neighbor who parks next to me has his 2002 Honda civic dented everywhere with the lights popping out but none the less their cars keep running like a charm too. I really dont see this model dying out soon.

I bought this car used from an elderly woman in Conneticut. She had replaced the rack & pinion before I had picked it up and she had a problem with the gas door not opening once closed. Instead of fixing this I would simply latch it from the trunk behind the carpet to keep it sealed while driving, it's tedious but saves me a fortune than going to dealer to have it taken care of. I originally bought it with 132000 miles and got an amazing deal at $1100 but then it had frozen calipers so replaced both by myself for $200 in parts and three hours in a driveway. After that I resurfaced the drums and replaced the shoes and the front brake pads, the rotors are still original and holding up fine. The car seems incapable of holding any speed over 65 without shimmying back and forth and yet it isn't the tie rods (they're brand new) alignment was also just done along with two matching new tires, so the problem is still unsolved. I great great gas mileage however since I commute 102 miles a day round trip and I average 31-34 mpg not bad for an automatic. Even being the EX model she seems very basic for features and nothing special, the special edition wheels bent immediately upon arrival to upstate New York since the roads are unforgiving so she has four newer steel wheels on her. Just learned she needs a new catalytic converter ($300) new windshield ($250) new bushings and control arms front and back ($500) and new front struts ($200) since I do enjoy the reliability I guess I will repair her but next tax season going to go out and buy either a GMC or a Toyota since believe it or not GMCs have been more reliable than the civic with minimal repairs, the repairs are cheap for Honda I guess that's a benefit? But seem to need more in frequency and just don't enjoy it. Good basic commuter car, it's not a race car guys, sick of seeing them with loud exhausts they aren't meant for street racing, 127 hp is not substantial enough except if you're racing a prius even then it's almost anyone's race haha.

Such a good time

Before I got this car I had a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 which I love(d). But once I started grad school and began driving close to 400 miles per week, I needed something more economical but because I'm a car nut and feel that my car is a strong reflection of myself the list of cars I could afford, actually wanted and would save me enough money was veeeeery small. I was about to get a Mini cooper when the owners bailed and then I came across a gold 2002 Civic Si on craigslist. Owner was asking $5000 which I felt was a bit high but because it was so clean and very stock I really didn't want to pass it up so I shelled out the money. Being my first stick shift, it took me a few days to be able to drive the car proficiently and really enjoy what an awesome machine it is. Coming from my Jeep which was basically a 4wd muscle car (big engine, crude suspension and really only good in a straight line) to this car was like going from a hovercraft to a go-cart. This thing handles phenomenally well. (My car has lower, stiffer springs on it mind you). The seats hold you in tight and so far the car has only asked me to push it harder. Where my jeep was happiest at 1/3 to 3/4 throttle, the Civic Si is happiest when you're revving the nuts off of it. The car is a bit sluggish from a stop and 1st gear is really short but from then on it is just a blast. Surprisingly it does have some torque steer. I would highly recommend a cold air intake on this car if nothing else just for the induction noise. At about 3k rpm you get the start of a great engine growl what just gets bigger an louder especially once the vtec kicks in. But (on the stock exhaust) it's quiet enough for me to finally enjoy some classical music on the highway (when you aren't driving like Paul Walker of course). The clutch is nice and light but very squeeky and bites in the upper half/upper third of the travel. The shifter could be notchier and have less play but the car does have 92000 miles on it. It isn't the fastest thing in the world, in fact my old jeep is probably faster, but that is not at all why I bought the civic. I'd already had a car that was fast but I found that I rarely ever got to use all the power and because it was an automatic, the only time I really ever enjoyed the car was when I was flooring it (which was almost never). The 2002 civic si is fast enough where giving it the full berries is just as much fun as it was in the jeep but I'm not breaking the speed limit...as much. This is going to sound really odd but because the civic si is a bit slower, I can savor the sensation of acceleration and that wonderful induction noise for longer before I need to stamp on the brakes. Not to mention that every time you turn the wheel it's like carving a hole in the laws of physics. The trade off of course is ride quality. I would not say it is uncomfortable but you are going to know exactly where the town didn't do such a good job paving the roads. If you value getting to 60 in under 6 seconds, going on road trips with 3 of your friends or being whisked to your destination surrounded by Egyptian cotton and duck down don't buy this car. But if you are someone who says "I GET to drive an hour each way to...", who wants a car that will reward you when you push it and encourage you to push it harder while doing 30 mpg highway and being as reliable as a sun dial on a clear summer day then you really need look no further. If you can find one that hasn't been modded up the yin yang and thrashed by...well me.

Fantastic Commuter!!!!

My '02 Civic LX Sedan is the most reliable car I have had. Got it for free from my father with 145,XXX miles, since my other car broke down. It does FANTASTIC on gas mileage. I can go to eastern Washington and back on less than 1/2 a tank. I have had no needed repairs. I wish I would have gotten this as my first car.

I've had this car longer than any other by far (over 8 years now). It handles predictably, and has held up pretty well over the years. It's not a common model, so people look at it and kind of scratch their heads. The clutch lasted 90,000 miles, and was a little over a $1,000 to replace at an independent shop. Other than that, it's been mostly routine maintenance. Unlike earlier models, this engine has a timing chain instead of a timing belt, which is a great benefit on upkeep and the little 2.0 seems pretty much bulletproof. The shifter is different than most cars, but I'm not sure why other cars don't have it there in the center. Typical Honda, carefully laid out, and it all still works.

This is the best car I have ever owned, and I have owned several. I bought it due to the gas mileage and reliability and it has held up its end of the deal. I continually get low 40s MPG. I now have 315,000 miles on it and I have only had to replace an alternator (@ 250k). It still has its original clutch! The only thing I have had to do for this car, besides the alternator, is routine maintenance and put gas in it. I still trust it to get me anywhere.... long or short distance. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this car!

I bought this car with 130k on it and it now has 144k(second car). Now that I gave my sister my car, this will be driven a lot more. I really like the exterior and interior design of the coupe. It's sleek and has a crazy amount of room for a coupe. The only complaint is that it doesn't have an armrest, with the storage compartment. I have replaced the A/C compressor, oxygen sensor, front rotors and brakes, ball joints, control arms, swaybar links, and battery. All parts were cheap because it's a Honda. I don't hold the repairs against the car because these are all parts expected to go after 11 years. It drives very nice and is comfortable. My cousin has the same one, with over 230k.

Had this car for 2 years now - I drive it tough, on tough roads (NYC, dirt roads..) I can accelarate as fast as I need - even though I must use low gears & push it, she goes! Now 86K and still sounds great.

Great gas mileage, everything else meh.

I get great gas mileage in this car... I average 30 city, 34-37 highway. I once got 40 mpg and that's going through mountain roads. The only problem is the build quality, my engine went at 85xxx then my tranny at 146xxx. I could understand the engine because at the time I was doing deliveries with the car plus it was an unbearably hot summer. The tranny it just all of a sudden gave out without any warning. I've read from other sources that many people have this problem with the early 2000 civics (bad trannies).

The Honda Civic is one of the best expressions of the economy sedan. The basic concept of offering as much room as possible to the passengers, while also providing fuel economy and nimbleness is well served by the Honda Civic.

I bought this car new 1/2002. It has been the best i have ever owned. Great performance even though only 115hp. Good in all weather and rarely gave me any issues. Recently traded it in at 175k miles as the A/C went and i didnt want to pay to fix it though it would have went for another 100k miles. Great MPG and reliability. Traded it in for a BMW 328i which is what i always wanted but i felt so bad trading it in.

We bought our 2002 Honda EX Coupe (manual trans) new in December 2002, and 10 years later and almost 200,000 miles later, it is still a great car. We have had to make no repairs other than "wear-out" items (timing belts, tires, brakes, clutch, etc., maybe a distributor), and it runs as strong as the day we bought it with no end in sight. It has more pickup at normal speeds/revs than my S2000, handles great, and gets mpg figures well into the 30's.

2002 that I purchased for $2K, Had to replace the cyl Head due to a Bad Camshaft, Now I'm re-ringing the whole motor at 163K. This Honda was not properly maintained, Owned by Teenager that hardly changed the oil. so I'm replacing all bearing, re-honing the Cylinders, The best part...I don't have to remove the engine, wish all cars where like this, makes my life very easy, Had it all torn down to the pistons less than 3Hours. Used Head pulled at 43k $250 Piston Rings, Rod Bearings, Head Gasket, Timing Belt, Tensioner, Waterpump $230. New Clutch $125. The Only other car I can rebuild as fast and cheap is my good ole Chevy 350. Love cars with simplicity in mind, everything else is wast a time.

Great car. I had 130k on mine when some very poor driver ran into me and totalled it. Man, I know I had another 150k to get out of it. It is noisy at high speeds, but show me a car in its class that isn't. I drive 50% highway and averaged 37 mpg over the life of the car. I'm 5-11 with longer legs and didn't have comfort issues. My friend who is 6-5 did. If you want a reliable, efficient car that will last you until your tired of driving it and then some, stick with the Honda. I wouldn't recommend it if you are bothered by noise at >80mph (mostly wind).

We bought our Honda as a 2002 closeout and have never looked back. While the car has picked up a few dings and scratches here and there over the last 8 years, it has not failed to perform. We put 1500 miles on it over 6 days this past summer while running the A/C and got 36 mpg (all before the 110K checkup). Great gas and oil car. Only issues we've had were replacing the front struts and replaced the V-Tech valve. Only complaint is the front disk pads wear all too quickly (40K miles), but other than that, it's a great car.

In 02 was considering Jetta, Civic, Saturn. Looking for fuel economy and reliability/longevity. It delivers! 5-speed manual 39 mpg back in 2002 and still 39 mpg in 2010. No problems whatsoever. Gas and oil changes only. New brakes at 150,000. Timing belt and water pump maintenance at 170,000. Mechanic said I could probably get another 100,000 before needing to bring it in again. It's decent in Michigan snow and ice. Road noise from rear end tires or wheels is noticeable. Ride suspension is also harsh over bumps. I feel got my money's worth. I plan to keep it another 4 years (80,000 miles) and then try to find a worthy person to be the second owner of this trusty little car.

I bought my Civic from a Honda dealership as a certified used car, with around 48k. Now with 90k, I am still surprised at its complete reliability and lack of problems. My civic was hit in a parking lot, and I hit a deer last summer, and not only did it hold up well but it has returned to its original form. Regular oil changes and a set of tires, and this car is easily my best investment. I have the constant itch for a sports car, but know that giving up my civic is the wrong idea.

Hope all Hondas are this good.

We have now put 148,000 miles on the car and have only done regular maintenance with one exception. We had to replace both headlights due to cracks and condensation. The car's 4 cylinder is very adequate though has trouble going 70 up hill, but duh. Drives well in snow if you go slowly. Hoping to get another 150,000 miles out of it. The headliner has been coming down for a couple of years, but the rest of the interior cloth has been very durable. Honda dealerships have actually been nice to go to. We've had very good experiences each time.

I bought my Civic from a local Honda dealer in 2005, had 36,000 miles on it. I change the oil every 3000 miles. Only had to replace the battery, front brake pads, tires. Only out of the ordinary repairs were the airbag sensor (Honda replaced for free not even under warranty!), a tie rod (wear & tear), and some electrical connection that had to do with one of my headlights. It's not the most flashy, fast car but it's zippy, economical, and just right for me. If I had kids or pets to haul around I'd probably go for the sedan or an Accord but for now I love the coupe. I'm a Honda person for life now after having an Oldsmobile & Chevy. If I had to do it again, I'd get a 5 speed if available.

Bought this car brand new in 02 and have had is since. Just got over 100,000 miles and it still drives great! And, of course, it starts right up every time without a doubt in my mind! Only minor issues with it, driver seat belt doesn't want to latch first time every time (just started this last Winter when it was really cold out), but would usually click in after two or three tries. SRS light just came on recently, haven't gotten it checked yet, but probably has to do with that. Needs new belts, but never anything serious wrong with it! Great car! Looking to upgrade to a Pilot or Odyssey now! Got over 38 mpg driving across country and usually about 29-30 around town (w/o hills)!

Has 129,000 miles so far, original clutch, all original parts besides regular maintenance items like timing belt, water pump and brakes. Runs great, handles great, manual gives it some pretty decent acceleration. Get 33 city/40-50 mpg highway depending on speed and type of highway.

After sifting through several thousand ads/scams for used Civics, I lucked into a cream puff EX w/ 31,000 original miles, w/out a nick, dent, or scratch. (rally red -- GREAT color!) It's the best looking, best performing used car I've ever bought, and now that the weather is getting nicer, I'm loving my sunroof. I put a remote starter (mandatory in Michigan winters),and a new set of tires on her, and she runs flawlessly, without a single rattle. No, it's not a 328i, so handling and performance are held to a different standard. Also, I was surprised to find city mileage at only around 28mpg with the automatic. But I still love this little car, and better still, I love having NO PAYMENTS!

Well this is my first car, and all I have to to say is that it's great. I have only but 10,000 miles on it, and in total it has 49,000 miles on it. The only thing I wish would be better is it's speakers. The stock ones are truly horrible. Over all it is a good car just boring and not great looking.

I love my 2002 Honda Civic Ex. I bought this car about 1 year back and already have put 9000 miles on it. Currently the odometer reads 67000 miles. This is a small beautiful car with a wonderful gas millage. With an automatic transmission I get about 25-26 miles/gallon in the city and 32-35 miles/gallon on the highways. Other than the usual regular scheduled maintenance I the car requires nothing and runs perfectly fine. I changed the battery this winter. The only complain with this car is its poor factory installed audio/speaker system.

I got this car from my Mom, and when she had it she had 0 problems with it. Now that I inherited it, I am having all sorts of problems. Car idles VERY roughly at start, bucks and shudders sometimes while accelerating particularly between 50-60 mph, sometimes hard to accelerate. This problem is intermittent so it's been hard to diagnose and so far no one has been able to fix it. It makes driving the car a huge pain when it's happening. Check engine light has been on for a while now. Always took care of it and brought it in for routine care. Really, really disappointed.

Change the oil with standard oil every 10,000 miles. Car has been a dream come true. Just wish the new ones were not so over priced.

I bought this car new in 2002. I haven't wanted to part with it since then. Has been very reliable. I have just changed the usual things, such as tires, battery, etc. It still has the original brake pads. Stock tires weren't the greatest. I get about 40 highway MPG with 5 speed manual transmission, which I think is hard to beat!! Very happy with this vehicle. Wish all I have owned worked this well!

I bought this car right when I got my license, and I love it. I have a low paying job and that really helps me because I only fill my tank once every 3 weeks. The engine is pretty weak, and with my 5 speed I really have to rev it pretty hard to get up to highway speed. It is fun to drive, pretty nimble with good handling. The stock speaker system isn't all that bad either. I think it was a perfect first car for me.

I bought this car from my sister over 5 years ago (she bought it brand new). I've always been on time with the scheduled maintenance and haven't had any huge repairs other than the timing belt and water pump combo repair that cost about $1400. But NOW... some days when it starts, it will idle very rough and can barely climb hills. The engine seems to be misfiring even when I drive during any driving conditions. Brought it to the local shop and they can't find anything wrong. I feel very betrayed by my Civic just because I've always done the maintenance on time. Changed the spark plugs and ignition coils and still runs like garbage.

I have had my 02 civic since it was brand new in 12/2001. I now have 104,000 miles on it. I love the 5 speed manual, makes it fun to drive. Only one major problem (brake booster $700 repair) since the few "new model quirks" were covered by original 3yr warranty. Average 38 mpg mixed driving. We have gone through 3 other cars in the life of this one and just can't give it up. I'll probably drive it until it dies (which could be another 200,000 miles!) Never once have had an oil change on time (like every 6,000 miles) and it's always at the correct level...even when I go wayyy over. :) I would recommend this car to anyone!

Excellent RELIABILITY is the bottom line here along with the NOTORIOUS Honda expected longevity makes it what it is, a great ride. Being a Civic it is not the luxury liner, but who wouldn't know that getting into it from the start? Works for me just fine as I am 5'10" 210#, anyone much larger would most likely make this model too small. Highly recommended for what it is. Change the oil, tires, maintain it as recommended and keep it clean and you will be a happy camper.

I just bought the car, I have had it a week and there is a vibrating noise in the front end when taking off or going up a hill. The dome light is bad and the fuel gauge is not working properly, the sensor is being replaced in a few days. The breaks are making a scrubbing noise. All of this has been brought up to the dealership they say all is normal but the fuel sensor and dome light! So to have this car for only a week and all these things to be wrong, that's not good. I thought Hondas were reliable and wonderful cars! It didn't come with a CD player and the windows you have to manually roll them up, I am lazy.

You had to be pushed up even the small hills and the road and wind noise a nuisance, but you made every trip just fine. Your sound system was just there and comfort could have been better, but I still loved you and miss you to this day. I have owned 3 Honda's before this one, and this one tops them all. I bought this EX used and it has not had one single engine problem in 1 year. I am 5'11'' and it fits me like glove in front and back. Besides the manual clutch jamming very rarely, its a smooth ride. It is slightly loud on the road, but you learn to ignore it because it can keep up with any car on the road. On a trip to LA I drove 70 mph and got 33.33 MPG over 410 miles. When I drive slower I get about 35 mpg. This is a great reliable car! My next car will be a NEW civic whenever that day comes. :)

This car has been excellent mechanically with no major problems. Gas mileage has been fabulous for an automatic: generally 33-34 in mixed driving. I averaged 36.5 on a 2500 mile trip in 2007 driving 65-70 mph. Only con is noise. I recommend putting premium tires on the Civic. My performance and handling greatly improved; the noise diminished as well.

I got this car brand new. Nothing bad except for my older brother tearing up the clutch after only 40,000 miles, but that's his fault not the car. This is car has so much potential no one knows about or understands. A lot of people think the civic is another foreign car thats saves gas. Did you know most of the parts on the civic are made in the US than there are on a cavalier? I don't think an American counterpart can compare to this vehicle. It may not be twin turbo-ed, or have a supercharger, but the VTEC can get the car to keep up with many others out there.

We bought our Civic a year ago used and it has been such a quality car. We have the 5 spd and it regularly gets 30 mpg in the city. We have not had a single problem with the car and it is 6 years old already! The interior is high quality, especially considering this used to be Honda's entry-level car. Yeah, it isn't the most comfortable car to ride in or the most quiet, but after a while you don't notice it anymore, or you just naturally forgive the car because it takes care of you at the pump and by not breaking down. If there is one thing I would change on the car, it would be the A/C. It just can't cool the car down on a day when the temp is over 100 degrees. Our next car will be a civic!:)

Purchased new with 6 miles on it and drove it for 5 years (80,000) miles. Reliability and Honda service was terrible. At 35,400 miles, third gear synchro went out on manual transmission. I have been driving manuals for 25 years and I have a CDL and I never burned out a clutch or damaged a tranny. Fixed under warranty but never shifted right again (grinded and clunked when going into gear) and shifter was VERY stiff and VERY difficult to down shift. Took back 4 times and dealer said it was fine!? Called Honda Corporate and wrote letters, no help at all. All 4 struts went out at 40,000 miles too ($1300). Road noise terrible, factory tires rated worst on tirerack and hydroplaned very badly.

This is a sweet little car to drive and very economical at the current price of gasoline. I have a used home pump which fills the tank overnight. My price per gallon equivalent at home is about $1.53 per gallon equivalent. Because the fuel is so clean, oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals could probably be delayed further. I have had essentially no major problems with the car. It has saved me a really large amount of money--especially now that gasoline is going for $4.72.

I did only 15,000 miles on it, but I know the car since it was 1 year old. That 1.7 liter engine was almost all the time pushed to the redline. The car was tuned a little bit, but it was almost like glued to the road when cornering. 0-60 is about 8.5\9 sec. I owned a manual transmission and I had to rebuild it (with 90k miles on it) but only because of track use and power shifting ($1000). Around 90k miles I had to change all front bushings ($450) and shocks ($300) everything else works perfectly. I have experienced an accident on highway going about 60mph and I can tell you that the car is very safe. It just started to burn about a half quarter of oil for every oil change. Mobil 1 5W-20

Now I get regular filter changes/tires/oil/and it needed some transmission fluid when I noticed it made a weird squeaking noise. Read the user manual would be my advice, to avoid costly mechanical charges. DO change air filters a lot (every 3 oil changes), it improves the fuel economy. I only had to change the battery one time, and I've had to jump start it many (when it was the old battery) because I kept leaving the lights on. The factory battery lasted 5 years which is really quite something!.

I took it to the dealer and they could not determine what the cause was. I am now just waiting for the 2008 Nissans or Camrys to come out. My dealership now wants to charge a $99 diagnostic fee. Whether they find the problem or not. The fact that there seems to be an electrical short that might make me stranded somewhere really bothers me. Haven't had any major problems, just typical wear and tear. Handling is great on the back roads around my house and don't even have to downshift to go up and down hills and around the S-turns. Great gas mileage, have made it to around 40-44 mph in daily driving (not highway). Definitely no complaints. Security features are FINE, car homes with a code that you punch in if the battery dies. Manual transmission is still shifting great and going strong. No problems with clutch, etc.

This is a reply to an earlier post. I had the same problem as Scott...Does anyone else have this problem with the 2002, Honda Civic EX, 4dr, 5 speed Man. When driving through puddles the water splashes on the exhaust and has a loud noise, the noise you would hear if a car had no exhaust. As it dries, 30 seconds, it goes away. Honda knows of this issue and calls it a "characteristic of the car". They said not to worry and left it at that.

I purchased my Civic Si 3 years ago. I have had absolutely no problems with this vehicle. transmission is amazing, clutch feel is great, handling is excellent for a front wheel drive. Understand its a civic, and while it's the performance model of a civic, it's power is only moderate or a bit lacking by todays standards. gas mileage is great and reliability is fantastic.

Solid performance but conservative styling sums the car up. I have had virtually no problems with it in almost 5 years of ownership. Mileage has been from 35 to 40 mpg in freeway commuting. Scheduled maintenance has been a big improvement - (much less frequently needed than my previous car). The ride is a bit stiff compared to my wifes Honda CRV.

My 2002 honda civic has endured my harsh driving with very few repairs. I drive over 35,000 miles per year and usually try to get places as quickly as possible. I have only performed routine maintenance on my car with the exception of wheel bearings on the front. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone!

People may bash it for its styling, but over all the civic si is a great car. Its very comfortable, has a very good sound system, does great gas mileage (if you drive it nice) and it was a extremely powerful heater! Mine is the "mustard" gold color and man does it turn some heads. People think that the "Dash Shifter" is ridiculous but it is honestly very comfortable to use when driving. It's got more than enough power for you to have fun with. Although it doesn't have "True Vtec" its i-vtec design is very good giving the car good power in all gears. No need to down-shift from 5th on the highway to pass someone, it still pulls like a train giving you easily enough power to pass something.

We did not purchase the extended warranty at time of purchase the reason is I spoke to past customer and did research and I was comfortible with my finding. Current I am very disappointed the clutch has burned out in the tranmission. The mechanic stated this in a common problem with Honda Civic and he currently have two in his shop with the same problem. This seems to be a hardship and Honda need to evaluate this closely.

Minor problems, stereo system died at 35,800 miles (under warranty), needed new battery at 50,000 miles. I have 53,000 miles now and will be trading in for a new 2007 Civic. Great car for the money. Gets better gas mileage than the Honda Fit!!!

Bought the car used with 34000 miles for 19 year old son. Gas mileage is big disappointment and the timing of the engine shifting seems to be off. Engine is noisy also. Tried to get an extra key made. Cost in excess of $100 because of computer chip in key cover (security feature). Also twice there has been a power interuption and had to get code from dealer to reset radio (another security feature). Battery died and could not shift car out of park to push out of garage. Will not buy another Honda because of all the security features that can be an real inconvenience to owner.

This is my second Honda. I can't say enough about this car. While it could use about 25 more horsepower, it has very precise handling and has good road manners. Have had no problems with the car, just keeping up the regular maintenance. Gas mileage is great (29 city and 36-38 highway). At 6'3", I'm corfortable in the drivers seat (and back seat to when needed), though there is not enough foot room on the front passenger side. For such a small car, the trunk is huge. I would buy another Honda after this car.

I added new stereo, alarm, remote start and tinted windows which adds nice extras. I plan on getting chrome exhaust, wider high performance tires and maybe stiffer suspension down the road. Its a great car on reliability and gas mileage. I was a little disapointed on the interior. It looks good, but there is a lot of plastic parts on the dash and door panels and after a while they get loose and rattle. I bought this car back in '02 Since then i have put about 102k miles on it. The car has been very reliable. However, the car is lacking in the performance department with only 126hp. The ride is also a little bumppy. Replaced the stock stereo system as soon as I bought it. Brakes lock up way to much and this car has ABS so i don't know the reason for that one. Car gets good gas mileage. Interior is breaking down a lot (faded, cracking, tears, etc.) I love the size of the back very roomy for a coupe. The moonroof is great on sunny days. Perfect car for roadtrips. Most reliable car ever!!!

I don't know what Honda was thinking when they designed the interior of the Honda Civic. They may run forever, but what is the point if you hate driving it? I have had to replace my stereo twice, my vents vibrate up and down as I drive, when the vents are set to come out at the floor only, I have to shut the rest of my vents to get all the air to come out only at the floor, and now when I push the button to turn on my rear defrost, my radio stations go fuzzy. Not only that, but what brilliant engineer thought that putting cupholders on the other side of the shifter would be a good idea? And what is the point of having an armrest that interferes with the driver's ability to shift?

My Civic had been pretty good form the most part. This is the 2nd Civic I've owned after totalling my first in a rear-end collision. I still feel like I got a little less car for a little more money. I enjoy all the amenities that come standard on the EX model. The A/C is a freezer, heater is a sweat box, and it very manuverable. The 2 door model does not comfortably seat 4 at all. I am a college student and sometimes space is a need. The gas mileage is great. I feel like the quality of my first Civic, which was a 97', was must better than that of my current 02' model.

The car rides nice, handles nimbly, and has been very reliable. My parents got me this car for my senior year of high school and for college. The car is in great shape despite some parking lot dings from careless drivers. I have 35,800 miles on it and never had a problem yet. The car runs beautifully no matter what the weather is like and the a/c is powerful and will get to the right temperature within 5 minutes of turning it on. The frame of the car will protect the people inside from almost any impact imaginable and I still snicker when I pull away from the gas pump with a full tank for less than $25. It's incredibly easy to handle and a great buy for any driver, but especially for college kids trying to save a little money. I love my car!

I have owned this car since new and it currently has 130,000 miles in just under 4 years. About 75% of my driving has been freeway; 25% in town. Replaced the catalytic converter as only "major repair" - cost me around $500. Maintenance: Oil changed every ~4k miles, fuel filter each year, air filter every 20k miles, spark plugs &timing belt once each, flushed transmission fluid (automatic) and coolant once each, just bought new front brakes, have good tires and rotate every ~5-10k. Car gets 36-39 mpg at 75-85 mph freeway driving depending on winter or summer; 32-36 in town. It's time for me to step up, but I'll likely stay w/in Honda family and buy used Acura TL, while keeping the Civic.

While there are a few features of the Civic that still need refining overall I think youll find that this is a great car for the money. I didnt buy the car to get rid of it; I bought it because I knew it would be reliable and last a LONG TIME. Has it been reliable? At 67,000 miles performance is nothing less than flawless. My fuel economy is outstanding even with slight motor modification (40mpg hwy). I'm amazed at the lack of maintainance this thing requires - it just keeps going. The improvement suggestions below are significant but overly 'picky' when you consider the price of the car.

This car was my first, and lucky for me, it was new. I chose this over a Nissan Sentra SE, but I should have waited for the 2002 Sentra SE-R. This car has held up pretty well, except for a couple interior trim issues. The nighthawk black pearl paint has been the worst paint I have ever had experience with. My mom's black 98 Maxima with 85,000 miles on it looks better. It has been extremely reliable, never broken down, great gas mileage getter, which is beneficial for me, being a college student who frequently travels home. Resale will be good compared to other vehicles when it will need replacing. Ho-hum performance and tiring seats on long drives, minimal front leg room. (I'm 6'2'')

It's a very, very good little car.

I've been driving a lot for about two and a half years. I love it. Never had a single problem with it. Never! After you get rid off your junks and buy smth. descent - you appreciate it much more. So, on a highway it gets 40mpg if I set it on cruise controlit at 72mph. In the city it gets about 32 mph. DX starts off much faster and stronger, but the EX is better on highways. When I drive more than 200 miles I start getting tired in the seat, but up to an hour driving - it's excellent. I would recommend it to anybody who wants reliability and a gas sipper. (Used to put gas into Crown Vic...). I wish I had more power, but again, you won't get the mileage you count on. It's a good car.

Although I do believe that the Civic is reliable and gets good gas mileage, I have been disappointed with several aspects of the car. I had to replace my tires within the first year, the inside rear of the car started to squeak after 6 months, the condensor needs replaced ($1200 job), plastic instrument panal randomly cracked(Honda wouldn't fix even though under warrenty), the engine is loud when idoling, stiff ride, and now the rear back tire is grinding and its not the brakes. So, I wake up everday holding my breath, hoping that nothing major happens!

I get over 30 mpg all around driving, Mid 30's on the highway. My Civic is a 4 dr LX model with a 5 speed transmission. It has excellent performance with the standard transmission...plenty of pep. The auto mags all bash this great car for not having 200hp and 17" summer rubber, but for real world city commuting this is one of best cars you could buy. Unlike many Hondas the Si engine is very flexible. You can round slow corners in 3rd gear and pull right up to speed with no fuss. The short gearing means that on the highway you can leave the car in 5th and still get great passing power. The engine is also willing to pull hard right up and through the 6875rpm redline for those times you are able to. In the handling department the Si remains very entertaining at 7 to 8/10ths. Turn in is sharp and the understeer limit is high enough to keep it fun in the twistys.

Obviously, fuel economy was a major factor when buying this car - 35mpg / 400+ miles on one tank!! The only dislikes I have are the location of the side-mirror controls (on the dash just left of the steering column - hard to get to without taking you eyes off the road); road noise all the time; and driver seat needs a longer armrest. Other than those items, I am very pleased with this CIVIC. Great resale value if I decide to sell of trade-in too...

I bought the car for the gas mileage and the reliability I thought Honda had. the car is easy to drive around town and is fairlly comfortable on long trips. The trunk lid kept coming open while you were driving down the road. You would have to stop on the side of the road and close it again. The biggest problem with the Civic is cost of repair. At 84,000 miles the transmission went out and put us on the side of the road. I had it towed in and repaired it for a cost of $3602.35. If you have anything break on a Honda Civic it is very expensive to repair.

My gas mileage is horrible and the resale value is disappointing. I bought the car knowing that I would put a lot of miles on it and I figured its a honda it will hold its value. NO it doesn't my care is worth about 7500.00 that is rediculous considering other cars are going for higher in the same year and style of this. My 3 year lease on the Civic is up in a month and I'm glad that I'm returning it. I haven't had any big problems with it (only replaced ABS sensor under warranty @ 15K miles), so it's been a reliable car. It's definitely not a bad car, but I think there are others that are better (replacing it with a Subaru, which is AWD, more powerful, quieter, better handling, and more fun to drive). I like the fuel economy, consistently get around 30-35MPG (I'll miss that with the Subaru). Like when the VTEC activates in the higher RPM range (especially 2nd and 3rd gears), gives you a little push. An advice to anyone interested in the Civic: look at Toyota Corolla, Matrix, and Mazda3 before purchasing.

I bought my Civic after facing the facts. Insurance for someone under the age of 25 is outragous. I decided on this car in June of 2004. I was working at the local Honda dealership when an older women was trading it in for a brand new Civic. I saw the car and felt that this would be a wise investment. I bought the car the next day. I have loved this car since the day that I bought it. It has started up every single time and the car has run flawlessly. The car could use a little more power. But this car gets out of this world gas mileage. I keep a record of the gas mileage I get ever time I fill up. I usally average about 36 MPG.

Well I bought this car a year ago used with 43k miles, it now has 57k miles and still runs and drives great. Still getting really good gas mileage and not too many squeeks or rattles. Really love the seats and shifter. Factory radio sounded good but I replaced the speakers and now it sounds great. My car was lowered when i bought it, it handles really well especially around high speed corners. Not really in anyone else's review but the headlights really put out a lot of light at night, almost as much as the expensive hid systems.

After hearing how great Honda cars were, I decided to try one and have leased a Civic for 3 years. With my lease winding down, here are my thoughts: The engine is flawless, if I was a heavy commuter I would love the reliability and gas mileage. Though the engine HP isn't the greatest, nor is the car the most comfortable so its not like I would love to spend an hour in it each way without more power/comfort. It is very agile & would be great for city living with street parking. Problems that I have were more "annoyances" such as 1. Radio compartment door broke, 2. Airbag sticker fell off, 3. Plastic trim around both rear windows fell off, and as I got hit twice its bumpers are weak.

Exceeded Expectations

Leased car due to special promotional deal...have driven it from KS to Los Angeles 2 times now and was impressed with the mileage, comfort and trip performance on all types of driving conditions and roads, mountains, etc..great car..no problems at all in the 3 yrs we've had it...ride is a little stiff, but thats just a Honda..the residual value is so cheap, we are purchasing it outright when the lease expires next month!! Great car.

A good car, no doubt. I did my research before buying and paid off. Except for one time when the car sort of fluked (I think it was Minnesota's harsh cold winter and snow), it runs smoothly as the day it was new. One thing I'm not sure about: I feel I don't get the mileage that other Civic drivers get. Winter mi/gal runs at about 25, and in the Spring/Summer is on the 32-36 range. Still, I'm planning on getting another Civic when I change this.

Reliability- HA!

Has had constant issues with the emissions/ fuel systems. After only 20,000 had to replace catalytic converter - Honda offered NO help, and in fact tells me they just can't give me the normal trade in amount becuase the car doesn't run well!!!!

I prefer larger cars, but living in the city and wanting something fuel efficient led us to get this Civic. After getting rid of the stock Firestones, this car is reasonably comfortable driving around town, has enough room to drop off the kids at school, and isn't embarrassing parked next to my boss' Mercedes. My gas mileage isn't as good as I expected, averaging 22 mpg, mainly because I have a short daily commute across town. However, on long drives to my in-laws, this baby get almost 40 mpg.

Good and reliable, if a bit boring.

Overall a solid smaller car. It does everything well-enough. I am a bit disappointed with the paint. The color is slightly different between some parts...as if the parts were painted seperately. I have noticed this on quite a few (especially silver) Civics. Also, the (rear) suspension is overly bouncy, as if it is not damped well enough. Interior room in the Coupe could also be better, considering the size. Insurance rates are strangely high for a relatively low cost car. All of this being said, it is a comfortable, competent small car.

Some thoughts....

The Civic is of course a very popular car. We see them on the road all the time. There is a reason for this. They are just good cars that do everything pretty well. Are there similar priced cars with more horsepower? Yes. Are there similar priced cars with rear disc brakes??? Sure. But I find that this car is as close as a economy car gets to not really feeling like an economy car. With a manual trans you can work the engine a bit which like most hondas is weak on the low end but better in the higher revs. Suits my style of driving fine which is a bit more spirited than average. Was mad about the crap Firestones that were OE but changed them to Bf Goodrich Traction TAs - big improvement!

Well I've had my SI for about 2 years now and I still love every minute while i'm in it. You just can't beat the interior or build quality in this price range. It has excellent pick up through all the gears and gets really good gas mileage. I lowered my right after I bought it and it completely changed the look of the car. I get compliments anyehere I drive it. On long trips the seats are very comfortable and supportive in the tight turns. Plenty of storage in the hatch and all the little storage compartments in the interior. A++++

I sold my Accord in 2002 and got the new Civic. I wanted an economical and reliable commuting car for less money than another Accord. The Civic deliveres on that, but the comfort of my 1-hr (2x daily) commute has suffered a great deal. Within 1st 6 mos of ownership, the annoying sqeaks in the dash, doors and pillars started to creep up. Now they are a daily occurance. I tried everything, but they keep coming back. Too much road noise in the cabin makes the already- weak audio system even less enjoyable. Seats are not supportive for long commutes. I would rather own a solid and comfortable sedan with worse gas mileage.

My wife and I were looking for a new car, but I'm not partial to investments that lost 25% of their value in the first 10 minutes you own them, so we went with pre-owned. The 2002 Civc is a great car. Fun, stylish, and sexy to drive, it's as reliable as it can be -- no problems yet -- and it's quite affordable, too. If you're like us, and you want a reliable, affordable car that can comfortably seat 4 or 5 and is fun on the road, look for a Civic.

Had this car for about a year and a half and have loved everyday of it. Once you lower the car it changes the entire look of the exterior. Driving a car with the conventional lower console manual shifter seems odd now. The car gets good gas mileage for how I drive it. I always get compliments from everyone who see's it. The interior has got to be the best I have ever driven in. The seats are supportive in tight corners and comfortable on long trips. The hatchback just cant be beat for hauling large things. I would recomend the Si to anyone who might be considering one. You just have to go drive one for yourself to see what it's all about.

I'm considering a trade in. I am 5'6" and have to sit on a pillow to see out the back and then the visability is less than optimum. The front is so lowriding that you have to park farther back from the curb so you don't scrape the front bumper. Also the front windshield posts seem to be placed in such a position that they can block out vehicles coming from the 2 and 10 o'clock positions. I only have 6600 miles on the car and really think I got better performance from my 1990 4Dr Civic.

Yup, bought a Civic 2dr EX. Just like them all, had front struts replaced under warranty. No problem now. Solid ride, good interior room with large enough doors to get in and out (other car is 90 Miata so this one feels huge...) Hauls lots of stuff when I need it to. Good in the snow or with sunroof open in summer. Driver gets wet when it rains and windows are down a little (wish it had rain rails) Outstanding reliability. I think I'll have this one for a while...

I have had no major mechanical problems with this car in 21k miles in 20 months, but it is literally losing it's shine. The paint seems kind of dull, I always thought it was applied rather thinly. Way too easily chipped and the body panels are showing lots of dings from rocks and parking lot incidents. Doesn't take much. My biggest concern is the rattle from the dash. It used to be intermittant but is now a constant nuisance. My car and a friend's '03 both share the same rattle from the exhaust near the muffler.

I love the look and the drive of the car! They could offer more color choices! It gets great gas mileage! Other tahn the suspension I have no problems with the car! Thay are great little cars!

Bought this car with dealer added options paying 5,000 over sticker. Bad decision! Not only does this Civic NOT have the comfort as my old 2000 Civic, it has depreciated faster. The same dealer will only give me 10,5000 for a car that list for 17k new, not to mention the add ons they don't give credit for, where the sticker on the old Civic was also 17k and two years later was worth 11,500.00 trade in and 13.5k-14.5k retail. 2002 Civic is uncomfortable for long rides, feel every bump in the road, doesn't feel as tight driving as the old Civic model, just has not been a good experience other than good gas mileage and Honda's usual mechanical reliability.

In the 13,000 miles that I have owned this car, it used an average of 1 quart of oil every 600 miles. In addition to the oil issue, there is an annoying clacking noise in the A- Pillar that Honda says is the moonroof drain tube hitting metal, but after 28 visits to the dealership to fix this and other issues, it remains. The emergency brake does not hold on hills and needs to be adjusted every 1000 miles. I have seen these same issues from others, so beware of them and ask about these issues if you are looking to buy one. I had great hopes for this car, my first new car purchase, and have been pretty dissapointed. It looks great on paper...

But now a year and a half later, my feelings have gone downhill for the Civic. The performance is bad, paint is chipping, maint button comes on constantly, etc. I'd defintely love to have the '00 Accord back. Id recommend the 00 Civic instead.

It has wonderful seats and interior features. The materials are high quality and it never has problems. My friend's Nissan Spec-v has been in the shop 4 times in the same amount of milage I have on mine. Its ride is sporty, but not rough at all. Its agile, but never darty. its quick, but never too high strung. A jack of all trades and a hell of a car. (I got an incredible deal on mine too)

Great gas mileage (40 mpg highway) and fairly decent drivability are the only good thing about this car. Had nothing but problems. Was in shop 5 times after only 4 months driving. Had to replace front and rear shocks, remove dash and insert foam to eliminate extensive rattling (still rattles). The whole bloody car rattles. Gear shifter pops out of gear, brakes make horrible metallic pop when first used, clutch and brake pedal squeak like rusty door hinges, etc, etc. Serious quality control issues.

This car is great for everyday driving. It gets great gas milage and is even a little fun to drive. It is a very reliable car and is put together very well. Interior design could use a little help as far as functionability. The radio/CD player is mounted far too high and angled upward. This is bad for anyone under 6' 4" tall. On sunny days you can't even read the display without leaning forward and craning your head up and looking down on it. This is of course not good when driving down the road. I knocked the rating on Interior Design hard for this because in this day and age, the stereo is a highly used item in everyone's vehicle.

The front struts on this car went out with in 5000 miles. Dealer advise-- "you will be paying for them soon enough your self" A/C system not adequate on a hot day. FM/AM have different sound levels. Oil filter hard to get to. AT transmission down shifts too fast when cruse control is on. Sun roof rattles. Paint job is flakey and weak. Sheet metal dents if you look at it sideways.

It’s a good car, but more like Ford than Honda. Picked it over Elantra for reliability and crash test data, Elantra more comfy & powerful, better stereo, & $3-4K less. Handling sucks (drive a new Corolla). Window regulators shouldn’t break from normal use. Paint chipped after 100 miles! Only gets 25MPG! Headlights dim when driving. Trunk dumps water inside when opened (from lights on trunk). Gas & brake petals too close, knee hits steering wheel. Right foot needs more room (have big feet, bigger shoes). Headrest makes better door than window, blocks rear view. Sun visor clip too tight. Driver door creaks. Ridiculous oil change procedure.

I fell inlove with this car. Everything is working great. Reliable ,love the overall quality. Eye catching,I will never drive any other car except honda(s). I have a 5sp honda and I'm really having fun driving it(smooth shifting), ABS works excellent. I like the exterior and interior design of this car(very roomy), but I prefer '99 and '00 when it comes to exterior.

The car hanles very well, shifts incredibly smoothly, has just enough power to make it fun to drive. You rarely see SIs on the road, so people are always checking it out. I wanted the reliability of a Honda (my last Honda had 150,000 miles on it and still ran like new when I sold it), the versatility of a hatchback (its like a little station wagon when you put the back seats down), and decent performance, so this car was the logical choice. The performance and fuel economy have improved over the first 1l,000 miles, but the 26 mpg I'm averaging is lower than I had expected.

This Civic is my fourth Honda. I've driven them since I was 16 years old. I feel that the build quality has slipped a little, my Civic seems to rattle quite a bit over rough surfaces and I only have 33k on it. That is my only complaint about it. It's fun to drive, has good pep for 127HP, a smooth shifting 5-speed, and I like the way it looks. It also gets great gas mileage, and I drive it hard.(34+ MPG) Overall, you won't be disappointed. I work for it's biggest competitor and continue to buy Honda products. GO HONDA!!

I bought a Honda Civic in late 2002 after reading good reviews in Edmunds.com. I was totally shocked to find out only months later that the "new" car came with serious problems. 1. Unlike my Accord, the plastic in the a/c vent of the Civic "sweats" and results in the rear windshield fogging. 2. The "break shift" produces loud sounds often when one breaks. Apparently these are problems that Honda is aware of and working on. However, a consumer like myself feels shortchanged!

This baby gets some killer gas mileage and it lets you have a great time while its getting it. The sport seats are extremely comfy, although they may be too narrow for you big guys and gals. The shifter throws are short and precise and clutch can be engaged with hardly any effort. Torque is so so (it is a four banger) but it is still enough to merge and pass quickly on the highway. Steering is tight and gives decent feedback.

Faulty cab light was replaced by the dealer. Vinyl molding by the drivers side gets loose and have to be pushed in place. Defrot only with the AC on is very irritating. Sometimes fails to start for no apparent reason. Brakes jerk when applied hard. Apart from that, fun car to drive. Paid a high price. I have owned both domestic and imports, Ford to VW to Toyota. I believe this is the best.

The seats are very accomodating (I'm 5'10"/255lbs), interior is designed very egronomically, pretty peppy, nice drivetrain, excellent MPG (I average 31 MPG combined, right on par with the 31/38 claim). It has stood up very well for the mileage I put on it so far! I went with Eternal Blue w/Moonroof Visor, 15-Spoke Honda Wheels, Rear Wing Spoiler, Fenderwell Trim and Mudguards for looks :-)

My Civic has been a great choice among cars so far. I am a working, college student driving an average of 20,000 to 25,000 miles a year. I average 29-32 miles per gallon every tank. Its fun to drive, but it could use more than 127 horsepower. It currently has 21000 miles on it; I hear it should last until 210,000 miles... we'll see.

I found a 2002 EX - that was traded-in with virtually no miles on it. I like it very much - I had a Civic Hatchback for nearly 10 years with virtually no problems and was so inexpensive to run. I do like this car it suits my needs is larger than the Hatchback I had. I test drove a 2003 - hated the new dials and found the engine to be noisey. So far with the '02, I have few complaints. I hope to have it for another 10yrs - unless I can find a good RollsRoyce cheap!

I have had my Civic for nearly a year and this car runs like it is still brand new. The manual is much more fun to drive than the automatic, and of course, could use a bit more pick up. But how can I complain when I average 34-36 MPGs in the Washington, D.C. area? I opted for the silver coupe with side air bags, security system (insurance discounts on both), fog lights, spoiler, 6-spoke wheels, and sunroof visor(not neccessary). This car was great in the snow with the OEM tires. Did not get stuck once. Overall when you buy a Honda you know what you're getting a reliable, practical car at a decent price.

since we bought this 2002 Civic we haven't had good experience at all: 1. Fuel Drinker: 20-22 short distances and 30-31 highways. 2. Noisy: some noise local drive and can-not-stand-anymore noise on highways. 3. Terrible breaks: when step a little harder on the break it becomes really sudden break which scares me every time. 4. Glitch Transmission: when change from one speed level to another the transmission is not smooth at all (big glitch & noise). P.S. we're very regret that we bought this not satisfying at all car (will NEVER buy Honda again...)

I purchased my 02 around one year ago and still love the car. Have especially enjoyed comfort, interior design and build quality. Car is still fun to drive, though it probably could use 40 more horse power and larger wheels. Has very good handling and aside from oil consumption in first 6000 miles no real problems (just turned 16K). The exterior design grows on you, but the large slab sided doors are an invitation to dents. Would be nice to have some sort of side molding or other protection. Sun roof controls should be near steering wheel.

I have owned this vehicle for just over 6 months now and I simply find it a pleasure to drive everyday. I use the car for commuting (approx. 50 miles per day) and it is wonderfully spacious for a hatchback when I go shopping on the weekends. The interior is very simple yet tastefully appointed (the bucket seats may take a little time to get used to) and all major options (power windows/locks, CD player, power moonroof, etc.) are standard. I usually average between 29- 31 miles per gallon (combination of city and highway driving), on regular octane gasoline.

I used to own a '97 Honda Civic DX coupe, which is the stripped down model for those of you who aren't too familiar with the line-up. I now own a '02 EX coupe which is their 'top of the line' model. I must say, there have been some drastic improvements in those 5 yrs, as well as some disappointments. My '97 DX was supposed to be getting only 106 hp while the '02 EX is supposed to be getting 127. Still, the DX felt much quicker. The '02 also has a lot of little creaks and rattles on the interior. The last complaint is gas mileage. Honda claims 32 city and 38 on the hwy. I do a mixture of both and am lucky if I get 30.

Traded in my troublesome 2000 Acura TL on this hottie and loved it. Quick and fun, it brought back the spirit of my old original VW Rabbit. Seats are wonderful... drove it cross country (California to Maryland) in 2-1/2 days (with longest day 16 hours) and arrived rested, not tired. The car just clicked off the Interstate miles. Averaged 67 mph including fuel and food stops and got 26.34 mpg. Gripes: Syncros aren't up to quick 1-2 shifts. It's easy to grind the gears. No problem running on 87 octane gas, but make sure it's from a "quality" retailer... it pings mercilessly on cheap gas.

Don't believe the middling press on the Civic Si; it's a great car. You can take my word for it. I'm not a Honda freak like some people, though I do have great respect for the company. The Si might not be the fastest in its class, but it's plenty quick and much more refined. It feels rock solid like a German car, which makes sense because it was engineered in Germany. I have had very few problems with my car, only minor rattles that seem to come and go with the weather. Styling is a take-it- or-leave-it proposition. I happen to like it.

No problems with this car. Drives well and one of the most spacious interiors in a compact car. It handles well both in the city and on highway. Excelent turning and decent hill climbing. The seats are comportable and there is enough head and feet room both in front and in the back. I like the new design (looks a little bit like the VW passat). The trunk is very large for such a small car. I was able to squeeze in my daughter's crib without opening the original box. Lowest cost of ownership.

When I was looking for a new car I was admiring the Toyota Matrix (pretty much just a newer version of my 1987 Corrolla FX) and the Mini Cooper. I happened to run accross this beauty by happenstance. Even though it may be a year later than the "innovative" matrix and cooper, they can both learn some things from the designers at Honda. They've mastered the sporty feel and ride while retaining creature comforts (it's so QUIET!) and style--soo sleek. Honda borrowed good ideas from toyota and bmw/mini, then made them better in the Civic SI Vtec

This car catches everyone's eye. Most people can't tell who makes it until they see the emblem. I get compliments all the time. The ergonomics are the best, and the stock racing seats and the rally shifter as well. This car shouts "UNIQUE." It's not the fastest of cars these days...wait for the type-r, but these things can always be changed. Drop in a jdm integra-r engine easily, and turbo-charge, and you can probably start trying to compete with an mitsu evo.

Excellent car but the acceleration!

Very bad mileage in winter city driving. 14.9-18 mpg. Worse than many SUVs. Dealer says this is normal for winter. Paint quality is very poor and inconsistent. Interior and exterior rattles galore. Tire sidewalls gave out at 8k. Brakes howl on cold mornings, dealer says "civic brakes do not like the cold". AC fails sometimes. Engine hesitates at @2500 and 3500 rpm. Dealer says I am "driving it wrong" and that engine does not like "hard onramp acceleration" and that it is made for "careful use". Road noise is MUCH worse than other compacts, and suspension transmits even the smallest bump to the occupants. Front suspension creaks and moans.

i have owned trucks and SUV's my whole life. This is the first car i have bought. I love it. It has a great power band and shifts real easy. I love the styling. The interior is awesome. I'm 6'3" and I fit well. I love the fact that it comes with almost everything. I'm just starting to commute far and the mileage seems to be getting better with each tank. My girlfriend did not like it at first glance. She has a 209HP Dodge Intrepid. After she drove it once, she wants to trade. By the way, I can take the Dodge off the line and definately through corners. Do not pay full price for this. You can get one for under $16000.

i have an acura 94 with 180K and a new civic(my fifth honda) and wouldn't even think about owning anything but a honda.as the ford focus racks up safety recalls(11 more-than any car in the last 30 years),VW's ignition coils fail- 02' and 03', and GM buys 50,000 honda V6 engines, all others try to keep up and Honda leaves the pack behind. The only car maker honda can see over it's shoulder off in the distance is Toyota= no motorcycle market not to mention no ATV's,Lawnmowers, generators, snowblowers. ...etc...that is why they have to give deep discounts to sell cars.

The car easily achieves 37mpg avg. If I take it on a trip it will breach 40mpg. Car corners very nicely but Honda fumbled with the shock/spring settings on the rear end. Car feels a little too bouncy some times. Especially under higher cornering loads. All controls are well placed and convenient. EX stereo is splendid for a stock unit, especially when using the CD player. When it is cold, do hear a few creeks and squeeks. Sunroof slide cover has a minor rattle. Have had to go to the dealer a few times for 1) Side Airbag light, 2)persistant idle problem and 3) a rocking driver's seat. All of these have been taken car of.

I've been a longtime diehard V8 lover. That being said I had it up to my eyeballs with replacing parts for my Firebird and finally broke down and bought a Honda for its reliability as a daily driver. To my amazement this is an incredibly fun to drive little car and it's got enough power to play around on the freeways (I've gotten it up to 135mph). In addition to that the handling is the best you could imagine on any car under $40K. I still take my TransAm to the track on the weekend, but the Si really changed my mind about I-4s.

I wanted a car to get me (and my family) to and from work and around town for the next ten years. Of the cars I researched, the Civic seemed best able to do that. I also found it nice to drive. When I got into the Civic and drove it, I was immediately impressed by its solid feel. It handled very well and the manual transmission shifted almost effortlessly. The interior is very roomy for a compact and the flat back floor makes the back seat seem even bigger. All in all, this was exactly what I was looking for.

This has 27,000 and has been in the shop for 15 quality defects. 3 times the drivers seat came unbolted from the floor. All 4 interior door panels were replaced - fabric coming off. The trunk lock failed. The windows had no track lube from the factory. The floor mats wore out. The steering and exhaust rattle. The drivetrain rocks when the car is started on a hill. The steering thunks, but the dealer can't duplicate. The car does not start and it stalls on the highway in 90+ weather which the dealer has not fixed. The car also does not meet EPA regulations. I would stay away from this Honda quality if I was you.

Ok, so maybe it's a little premature to write a review on my car already. I just purchase a new 2002 Civic Si about a week and a half ago.So far I've been very pleased with my purchase. The car in Si form is quite eye catching.. especially my color (euro yellow). The interior doesn't bore me at all, especially the shifter position (which all my friends find quite exciting). The gas milease seems to be getting a little better now. The first tank sucked. Overall it is a very fun, compact, daily driver.

A rattle in the door was a bolt left in. Coolant drops below the min. mark when hot after 500 to 1000 miles (possible leak in the dash since we smell it) & their solution was to "overfill" it so I don't run out so quickly. It has failed to start several times for no reason. For 2 years they promise to set up a meeting with the factory rep. Other problems are missing welds, seat belts, body damages easily, the windows fog unless the A/ C, outside air and heat on,... and more. Honda has been tough to work with. Maybe I am upset since I had a 2001 HX that needed 2 transmissions in a year! I am selling the LX and buying something else.

You want a quick fun to drive little sporty car then this is your bet. Yeah the Focus SVT is faster but it is built like something from fisher price. Great seats, great gas miliage for the power and a 5 start frontal and 4 star side impact something the competition cant match. You want mods, you got em! All the way from simple cold air boxes gaining you 12 hp all the way to bolton turbo's taking you to 277 hp. Let me tell you, I have the bolt on turbo and not much can match the straight line take off that this little puppy gives me. As for a stock model it is a great little get about with excelent power on the road.

I went for Honda 5-spoke alloy wheels and the EX really looks sporty. I fell in love with the car after a friend bought a HX model. My EX has been great on gas mileage about 34 mpg. Great fuel economy, ultra high reliabilty. Good interior room. Great all around car. But why does it have to look soo damn boooring?!? Is it a Civic? Accord?? Camry?? Corolla?? I can't tell. They all look like they came out of the same cookie cutter. The Civic is more like a Maytag refrigerator on wheels. It runs forever on almost no fuel, but how often do you say "Man, that's a cool looking refrigerator!"?

Obvious improvements in gas mileage and reliability; I don't why I stuck with the van for so long. 5 speed's got plenty of kick. A little problem with misc. rattles on right door and windshield visor. Plenty of room for transportation in back seat and a surprisingly large trunk.

Got this car a week ago and it hauls!!! Considering that this car has a base RSX Integra engine in it for $16,000 (little bit more than what I paid for it) you're getting a lot of car for the money. The wheels are really nice, the seats are out of this world. I'm really tall and can actually fit in this car with no serious discomfort. This car loves to rev high and go fast. Salesman let me take the car for 30 mile test drive and he let me race people in city traffic with it! Beat an old Integra GSR and a Jeep GC V-8 with peeling the tires out -but hey, I won them with a car worth so much less?

After shopping around thoroughly I have found that the civic is the best car for the money and even for more money.Sure, the VW Golf GL looks better, but the handling, manual transmission, lack of armrest, price and cost of insurance make it less desirable. Before taxes and tags I got the Civic EX manual for 14,500 which is almost a grand less than the golf. Despite Honda's inexcusably poor warranty in comparison to every other maker. Compared to the Sentra, Corrola, Echo, Lancer, and Focus the car drives better, has quicker pickup, is more comfortable, has a better sound system, and comes with a great engine.

This is a great (economy) car! The gas mileage is an obvious plus, engine power is adequate, brakes are excellent, steering is tight and the handling is nimble. What things needs improvement? Interior fit and finish is marginal is some areas (instrument cluster looks cheap, and some plastics dont fit very tightly). Secondly, the automatic transmission (should have gotten a manual...) is horrible! Its shifts are way too slow for this type of car. It resembles that of an old grandpas car than a sporty economy car. Overall however I am very satisfied with my purchase!

When looking for an affordable, fun to drive car that gets great mileage, this is your car. I've put 18000 miles on in 8 months commuting to work with no problems. Although I do like this LX, I find it clunky going through the gears and lacking the kind of power I enjoy off the line. There is alot of road noise and ticking sounds coming from behind the dash and God knows where else. Honda should pay more attention to making a tight car.

Sunroof works perfect, its fast to. 15 inch wheels, are not even real rims, they are just hub caps.. a bit dissapointing until I saw my monthly payments. I wanted something a bit sportier, but this car was a great compromise between styling and affordability. It gets great gas millage (EPA ratings are right on target), handles well, and has enough power to get over hills without a fuss. Don't get in an accident with this vehicle though, because although it does a good job keeping you safe, the damage to the vehicle is going to be expensive. Many of the parts cannot be easily repaired and need to be replaced (bumpers, shock absorbers, etc.)

Overall, the Civic Coupe LX is a solid buy. I am dissapointed, however, with the build quality. While my Civic has been solid since I purchased it in May '02, noises, particularly a loud clicking, have developed. I have been to the dealer three times, and they have not been able to fix the problem. The Civic should definitely be on your shopping list, just don't automatically rely on the Honda brand.

review for a 2000 vs 2002 EX sedan

I am writing this review for a 2000 because I think the 2002 is way-worse. Honda modified the 2001/2002 model and cheapened the components (like replacing the double-wishbone suspension with cheap regulal one). So, if you want good deal, look for a low- mileage 2000 model. It is probably the most reliable Civic ever made.

I'm disapointed. I like the roomy interior and the dash display, but I find myself bouncing and clunking around too much on standard roads, listening to the rev of the engine too much and wishing for some of the Corolla and Sentra perks(CD player, more horsepower, a place for my change) I thought would seem less important once I started driving the more expensive Civic. Reliability seems lacking too because less than one week after purchase I have to take my car into the dealer because I'm having map light problems. I hope this car retains its value because I'll be trading it in sooner than the 10-12 years I thought I would hold onto it for.

I bought this car for my wife because she wanted it and it was the smallest car I could fit into without being extremely uncomfortable. We drive the car 70-80 miles per day on average (almost all highway)and average over 40+ mpg driving between 65-70 mph. Currently, I have 572.3 miles on this tank of gas and I need to buy some gas today. The ride is bumpy, but it has been with my last two Honda's I've owned. The Interior of this Civic is about the same size as my 1991 Accord was before this replaced that vehicle after 207K miles. If the car were a bit bigger, I'd buy another one to replace my car.

i sold my integra gsr, and bought this little rocket. its not as fast as the gsr, and its not quite as fun to drive. i think i like it better, though. the interior is better than that of ANY car that costs less than $50,000. the seats? you can't beat them. while this car usually comes in in the middle of the pack in shootouts, one thing to consider, is that this car is cheaper (mine was $17,300), and all the others come w/ 17" X 7" wheels. the civic comes with 15" X 6"'s. with the same wheel and tire setup as the others, i think the civic would win most of these camparos. when you factor in honda's reliability and resale value, you can't go wrong.

leasing this 02 SI for 3yrs. have had nothing but Honda's in the past. Wasn't too crazy about the looks, but once I drove it. Sold! A great combination of handling, power, and interior asthetics in a fun to drive car. Considered the Protege' 5 and felt more confident in the refinement and dependability of a Honda. Not crazy about the looks, definitely needs larger rims and tires, and maybe a body kit. High cowl doesn't help. Otherwise, a great car for the money!

I have had the car for about 3 months now and I love it. It's by far the best car that I have had thus far. It handles well, it has excellent pick up, and I feel safe (especially with the crash test results). The only negative thing that I can think of is that the car is light. You won't find yourself all over the road, but you can tell that the bumps push you to the right or left a little. All-in-all, I give it a 9.4 rating. I wouldn't trade it in for anything else out there on the road.

Does anyone else have this problem with the 2002, Honda Civic EX, 4dr, 5 speed Man. When driving through puddles the water splashes on the exhaust and has a loud noise, the noise you would here if a car had no exhaust. As it dries, 30 seconds, it goes away. Honda knows of this issue and calls it a "charateristic of the car". I was told by the dealership, after they replaced a strut and the problem still was there. Today, Aug 5, I contacted Majestic Honda,W. Wariwick, RI. (I purchased the car from their Lincoln , RI dealership) and asked to speak with the the owner. I will receive a callback from the owner. I've driven this car back and forth to work 40 miles each way, 5 days a week, for the last 1 yr+. Pros: Awesome mileage (AVERAGE = 38) for any car, nevermind an Automatic!!!, tight suspension (contrary to what I've read) in that I can hug a well-rounded 90 degree turn at 40 mph, car exudes quality (kicks ass on any of the 3 Fords and 2 Toyotas I've had). Cons: Stereo sound just so-so (needs high quality bass-response for the EX), road noise (a bit loud for my taste), no center arm rest (the one that it comes with is a joke!)

The car accelerated to highway speed without any hesitation with 3 occupants and the a/c on. The car has plenty of power. It was a few days until I had driven it at night. The display glows orange. Its pretty cool. The front seats are very supportive.

I have been selling new Hondas for several years and have never been disappointed until this 2001 LX sedan. I have had squeaks, creaks, and rattles since day one. I believe all the springs and three of the struts have been replaced to no avail. My first two Hondas were stellar; this one has been dreadful. Gas mileage has hit 40 on extended drives, but hovers around 27 with gentle city driving.

I needed to replace my 92 Maxima with a bum tranny. My wife suggested we go to our Honda dealer and see the used Hondas and take advantage of the great certified used program. We saw two 2002 Civics, one EX and one LX each with 8,500 miles. The LX drove basically the same. I am very pleased with the deal Bobby Rahal Honda gave us. After factoring in a hefty trade, I think our actual purchase price was around $13,500. I think this is a good deal for a 2002 Civic with 8,500 miles and a better warranty than a new Civic. I do miss the V6 and ride of the Maxima, but my wife says I can drive the Accord if I need that big car ride again.

I've had my Civic LX for one month now and it seems to have been a good choice for a car under $17,000 so far. The Civic ride is relatively smooth compared to the VW Golf (felt every bump on the road with that "tight" suspension) and Nissan Sentra. Acceleration is less than the Golf and Toyota Corolla, but better than the Sentra and for me, adequate. Gas mileage has been hovering in the 30-35 range so far, okay, I guess in this sad American car market where only a few cars can even come close to that. A couple of things starting to bug me which I'll touch on below

A FEW MONTHS AGO I PURCHASED A 2002 HONDA CIVIC EX (2 DOOR COUPE). THIS IS PROBABLY THE BIGGEST MISTAKE I HAVE BEEN AS FAR AS AUTOMOBILE PURCHASING GOES. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN THE SHOP TWICE BECAUSE IT JUST RANDOMLY DOES NOT START (MIND YOU THIS CAR HAS 3000 MILES, AND IS UNDER 3 MONTHS OLD). I just got this car about two weeks ago, and I love it ever since I drove out from the dealership's parking lot. The transmission look weird at first, but once you start changing gears, it'll became second nature to you. And the seat, it's just the best seat I have ever sat in! (Under $20K) It got really good support to your back and torso, and the steering wheel, it's give you the feeling that you are driving an S2000 (no kidding!) To sum it up, the SI might not be the fastest car you've ever drove, but for a car that's give you so much fun (and standard equipments) well under $20K, who really care ;-)

Very good economical car.

Want a car that's fun to drive, but need a functional back seat? You've found it! The new iVtec teamed with the close ratio 5 speed gearbox and the short throw shifter make an awsome combination. The tight European tuned suspension make the car highly responsive and agressive in the turns. Yet, besides myself, I can put 3 Lacrosse players and gear in this thing. The SI handles as well as the RSX Type S. If you must have the 200hp w/6 speed, buy the RSX, or keep the 3K or so and get the SI and get the added economy, I'm getting around 29 mpg and I'm certainly not light on the gas pedal.

This car will certainly not win a drag race but even with the a/c on it still has enough power to keep me happy, not to mention that on my first road trip it managed to get almost 41 mpg! The ride is supple and well controlled. The steering is nimble and the turning radius is short. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and does not bog down or search between o/d and 4th while ascending a hill. The interior is laid out well and feels like good quality to the touch.

I have 26000 miles so far and no problems. 2 recalls so far. Tire noise was bad when new, but after 25000 miles it became unbearable. new tires put it back to when new. I still can't hear the engine over the tire noise on the highway. The car is fun to drive if you wear earplugs. performance is ok for the category of this car.

I just bought this car and I love it! It's small, sporty, and fun to drive. However, the gas mileage on the sticker is not what I have been getting around town. I actually get between 18-20 mpg around town. This may be attributed to the use of the airco as I live in Tucson AZ and it is 100 degrees everyday!

This is my first economy car after owning ford and chevy pickup trucks. The ride is very smooth and the the 1.7 liter vortec has enough power( remember that this is a economy car and not a sports car) so don't expect it to be fast. The rotors do tend to warp, So expect a pronounce shimmy while braking at high speeds.

The 2001 Civic Ex is a great car if you are looking for a car that is dependable and gets great gas mileage. I keep track of my gas mileage and the worst i have ever done was 30mpg and the best was 41mpg. If you want a car that goes fast DONT BUY A CIVIC! I have not had any problems with it. So far SO good!

I've owned my 2001 Honda Civic EX Sedan for almost a year and never got to take it on any road trips until last weekend. I averaged over 39mpg for over 2,000 miles of driving, including two trips through the mountains and some city driving. This is amazing noting my lead foot and the engine is tuned to create as little emissions as possible. Another amazing thing is the tranny doesn't go around always searching for gears on inclines. Just leave the cruise on and it takes care of the rest. On a quality note. This car has been flawless like my older Hondas. Can't get any better quality for the money.

I have had my 4 door 5 speed for a short while. I enjoy it. I have driven quite a few 5 speed Honda's. Compared to the old 1.6 L Civics, this engine actually has decent torque between 1500RPM-2500RPM (even compared to a VTEC Del Sol). Good back seat spacing, big trunk. It's not easy to fill up all the space.

I love my AMERICAN HONDA CIVIC, it's got 56000 miles on it, haven't spent a dime on repair bills and 13 dollar max at the gas station using the most expensive (91 octane) gas. The power and acceleration is very quick for an economy car. I kinda feel sorry for the people that drive gas guzzling domestics with costly repair bills, hehe.

This is my 2nd Honda Civic. My first one was a 1994 EC coupe. I bought a 2002 EX sedan this time and I love it! This is my first new car and it is great! The gas mileage can't be beat. They have really done well from the 1994 to the 2002. I love the seats that you can do the height adjustment - this is great for short people! The dealership that I went to were helpful and friendly. I got a below invoice price and the person I worked with (mostly on-line and by phone) called me up to let me know that the car I wanted in blue was the last one that they were going to get. I was able to go and get it that day!

±?|·¶?nomy car with lots of tasteful styling. Gas mileage advertised was dead-on accurate. Original equipment tires are not the greatest with road wandering a problem. The ride is a bit jittery (tires?). The car is reasonably quiet with a great stereo system. The console seems a bit cheap looking with lots of plastic. the ergonomics of the climate controls could be improved a bit (small & hard to see) needs a remote release for the trunk needs at least two more cup holders in the rear

After seeing the demise of the Civic Hatch, I was thinking about picking up a used Hatchback DX or CX from the dealer.... but you can't find them! Honda Hatchback owners are SO LOYAL it isn't even funny!! What can I say... The Rally stick is awsome, the car is fast and handles beautifully, even at 130MPH !!! It looks awsome too!!!! (Especially on the inside). Take a test drive, you won't regret it... Oh, word is there will only be 18,000 of them made/sold in the US, then the Hatch's may be gone for good this time! Pick one up now!!! (BTW, most dealer are tacking on an addt'l $1000 for the privlidge of buying one!)

I have driven many cars in my lifetime and decided on the Honda Civic because it has always had excellent consumer reviews. It handles the road well for its size and with skyrocketing prices in gas I was pleased to pay $13.00 to fill it up and found that during the breakin period it is still getting 31 mpg in combination city/highway driving. A very big difference from our Van and a real pleasure to drive.

I owned the 2001 Honda Civic for just 3 short weeks before I was hit by a Ford F350 going over 45mph through a red light. I was hit on the passenger side and although my car was deemed a total loss, I survived and if I would have had any passengers with me they all would have been safe as well. The side panels had minimal intrusion to the inside. I was not only impressed but I was grateful for Honda's superior safety features. I now own the 2002 Civic and love it.

Evidently I was fooled by the claim that Japanese cars are reliable. I bought this piece of junk last month and have had nothing but problems with it. When I pulled out of the dealership, the car died. They dragged it into the repair shop and told me the next day that the fuel line was clogged. I figured that it was a fluke and drove off. Before I got home, the thing stalled again. This time, I found out that an engine module had malfunctioned. I have had it for two weeks since and have had two pieces of trim come loose and fall off somewhere on the highway. Needless to say, I would warn all against buying a Honda, especially the Civic.

THe honda civic ex, when mated to a stick shift, is actually a surprisingly sporty car. the engine is quite peppy and the vtec growl pleases every time. 0-60mph comes in roughly 8 seconds, which is quite good for its class. sure, its no racer, but thats because the fuel mileage and the comfort of the car is also far superior than others in its class. also, one cant go wrong with honda reliabilty and resale values. Thumbs up for the civic.

Don't know why more aren't being sold, as the price is right for a car that is reliable, safe (check out NTSB 5 star ratings) comfortable, nimble and fun to drive, and 40 mpg to boot! Must be the anonymous styling and boring color choices Honda offers. Still, the New generation Civic vastly improves over previous model years. Notice that the negative reviews are all on old civics, for inaccurate rating reflection. My sister drives a monstro SUV for "safety" and I love rubbing it in whenever we fill up her 12 mpg SUV vs. my 38-40 mpg five star safety squirrel Civic.

I was in the market for a new car because I questioned the reliability of my 2000 Alero which had been in the shop three times and was close to running out its warranty. I wanted something that was reliable with good gas mileage...first name that came to mind? Of course Honda. Since I can't afford the Accord I looked at the Civic EX. The Civic delivers outstanding performance...its got quite a bit of zip for a 4 banger...and it handles much better than the Alero ever did, even when it was new. The dealer was wonderful...even threw in the floormats for free. If you want a good car, but this one.

The 1.7L EX has plenty of low end power for its engine size. I find its suspension too soft. This is a problem in high speed slaloms when the car doesn't seem to want to follow the line you are asking it to. In turns the car will typically understeer but by letting go of the gas pedal you can easily convert it to a pleasant oversteer. The factory tires are among the worst (mine came with Firestone). The Honda spoiler is quite anoying. It makes the car rear end look bigger than it already is and blocks a rather large section of your rear view. The car is very very reliable and the engine is a jewel. You can drive it right up to the redline non stop and it will always work perfectly.

This is my second Civic after buying a used '96 Civic a few years ago. I bought the 2002 Civic EX in Black. The drive is very smooth and they've worked on the wind noise problem. When going over bumps and problems in the road, there the car adjusts to the road conditions making it better to drive. Besides comfort and drive, the best part of this car is the fuel economy. For a college student, this car is perfect because you put in a tank of gas and it's going to last you 320miles ++.

Within weeks of purchase the car had to be taken to a honda dealer twice because of engine malfunction light coming on twice. The dealer has no idea what is wrong with it or how to fix it .Opinion is that low emission hondas have too many sensors causing problems. A car that spends a lot of time at the dealership will naturally have low emissions. What a concept, a lemon by design..........

This car is great. It looks great, drives well, and I have had absolutely zero problems with it. I get 30+ mpg, and I love the sunroof and keyless entry. Very roomy, with a huge trunk (the two door is just as big as the 4 door, and almost as big as the Accord). I live in my car, and couldn't be happier. A Great car!

Great handling, feel, solid, comfortable and probably the lowest cost of ownership for any car on the planet (if including resale value)

Thank You Honda! After owning a Ford for 4 years and waiting for the next thing to go wrong I finally have a car that does what it is supposed to. Gets me from point A to B with no fuss and doesn't cost me an arm and a leg to maintain. It is a lot more fun to drive then I thought it would be. Also, Chezik-Sayers gets my vote for anyone looking for a new car.
