This is my second 2002 accord. I wrecked the first one. I just use as a daily commuter. I couldn't be happier. I bout it with 103,000 miles on it. What other car can you buy with 100k and still be confident? It now has 151k and it rides like new. All I have replaced is a spring in the clutch that broke (250) and a wheel hub (180). The interior is simple. I will say for this year this accord is about as big as the new civic. For 2001 and 2002 I would stay away from the automatic transmission 4 cylinder, They had problems. My manual doesn't slip. Also I see accords here and there with bad fading paint but mine is holding. I just got my wife an 07 accord based on edmunds reviews. She had an 03 Camry and everything was dying at 150k. So I can confidently recommend this car. Oh and average 29-30 mpg mixed. (432 miles per tank)

Verify basic maintenance has been maintained and this car will last! The only issue I've ever had is having the transmission replaced at 20k miles. I have owned four Accords. This is now a hand me down for my son as I have a newer model. Drive it, maintain it and it will last forever!

I've owned this car since 2005. I made a quick decision to buy it without doing research. BAD MOVE ! Take 5 mins to look up official recall \ complaints. Anyone who gives this car a good review has limited knowledge and/or experience with cars. The automatic transmission might go down in history for being one of the WORST ever made. Ever notice accords with faded paint ? That's another inherent problem. Some received a cheaper paint and clear coat resulting in the discoloration. If I had taken even 2 mins to research this car I would not have bought it. It's sitting in my garage broken. $2000 to fix transmissin. Not doing it. Rebuilt and refurbished transmissions have same problem

Bought this car used a few years ago it ran fine for a little while, then I started having all kinds of problems from the ignition distributor, and now the transmission is slipping can't afford to put any more money into it as I have over $7000.00 into it now.My advice don't buy this year model

Love my car===despite transmission replacement at 83g which after some discussion cost me 1100 instead of the full quoted cost of 2200. Brake rotors are basically a routine issue due to warping. This in turn quickly causes front end issues if not addressed as soon as you notice wheels shaking when you brake over 50 mph. I still enjoy driving it after 173G miles and will likely keep it till 250g if the transmission doesn't crap out again. I feel the rotor warping issue has been handled terribly by Honda. At very least they should turn the rotors at no cost for lifetime owners!

I bought this Honda Accord 3 years ago because I was sick of fixing my daughters peace of junk Kia to the tune of over $5000.00! This car has been nothing more than amazing to say the least. By far the most reliable car I have ever owned in my life. I bought it with about 90,000 miles on it and it now has 140,000 miles and I have only done regular maintenance on it like oil changes and transmission service etc. I have wanted to purchase another car because I am a bit tired of it, but how do you get rid of a bullet proof car that starts perfectly every time and gets 26mpg city and 38mpg highway along with perfect reliability. I have read many reviews that say there are transmission problems with automatic transmissions, mine has been flawless so far. I don't know if my lack of transmission problems has to do with the fact I am a perfectionist who has all service up to date before it's needed or it may have to do with the fact my Honda is a 4cyl and there are more problems with the 6cyl engine and the automatic transmission. I have read a few articles that blame the heat of 6cyl motor affecting the transmission failure, I don't know if there is any science in that theory though. Anyhow, the car drives smooth, plenty of power, does not burn any oil nor does it leak a drop of anything, built solid, interior still looks great, everything works as it should and its very easy to drive. If there was a down side to this car it would only be the clear coat is pealing on the roof, but heck its got 140,000 miles on it and sits outside 24/7. It is a great car and that is why you still see these old cars on the road after being 14 years old.

I have 146k miles on the odometer. The Engine and Transmission are still flawless. No leaks or anything. I did have to replace the radiator, timing belt, and water pump. Man this car is pretty quick for almost a 14 year old car. It gets me where I need to go. The ride quality is really stiff, not the best when it comes down to ride quality. The fuel economy is't good either. I can't complain because it's a v6. I average about 18 mpg from city and highway driven. I love the comfortable seats and the exterior of this car! It's my daily drive and I love driving this car.

how frustrating wanted another 3 years to get to go from 156K to 200K but it seems I will only make it another 5-10,000 miles. Everything else is running well but at 14 years you gotta be realistic. Havent done an engine flush yet, no tailpipe smoke and engine runs well but the oil just disappears. Changed PCV and air filter and spark plugs are next. Blue book is $2500 thats an engine job easy. Any suggestions on oil flush? Been filling with Castrol GTX high milage for past 4 quarts and will continue. Will try to do $20 oil changes every 2000 miles to see if high milage is cleaning piston ring areas. Would go and buy new but live in CT and they tax you for the NADA value of your car EVERY year!! Not cool having a 700-800 tax bill decreasing every year. Update 10.2.2016- found 2013 outback at bmw dealer and took the honda for 1000. Moved on and enjoying 11 year upgrade on my car.

I'm greatful for the desig of this car. I got in a very serious accident and was lucky to survive. I'm glad my car was built the way it was! I've had this car for three years till this accident and no major issues! I did have to do one repair from the get-go, but that's because I got it as a remade car. Have loved my car!

Bought it new right after high school. Dogged it, romped on it and attempted something like e-breaking. Never missed an oil change or transmission fluid drain. Timing belt/water pumps lasted me about 100k miles. Air conditioner fan motor went out @ 150k Replaced upper/lower radiator hoses with that. Transmission went out @ 189k Replaced with remanufactured for $1500 + $790 for removal/install. Rotors resurfaced @ 200k and had quite a bit more break work done with that. Starter went out @ 250k Timing belt/water pump and tune @ ~278k Oil pan gasket failed @ 280k Radiator failed @ 285k Front passanger wheel bearing @ 290k.

I owned this car from '05 (55k miles) to 2011 (140k miles). No issues whatsoever. That is, outside of ordinary maintenance. the only thing I remember is that the hood latch wouldn't close without pressing down on the cable with a screw driver. I kept good on sticking to the maintenance schedule with all the suggested items. Yes I replaced the tranny fluid so NO I did not have tranny problems. Seems most people don't take care of their trannys then blame the Honda for tranny failures. Great car, wish I didn't have to sell it but after 3 kids, had to get a minivan.

2002 EX V6. Put 230,000 miles on it. I bought it new. This has been a good car overall. Yes, it did have some transmission issues, but over 230k, it never let me down. The issue was between 1st and 2nd gear, but if you don't beat on it, it will last. Still original Tranny! It is noisy on the highway as well. Never had an electrical problem with the car, and it has never left me stranded. I took great care of the car, waxing it twice a year, changing fluids, etc. The paint started to fade out a bit after 10 years. Car was garage kept most of it's life. I'd buy another honda accord.

I am the third owner of this car after my uncle. My uncle at 68,000 miles had to replace the transmission $2500. Then later he sold the car to me. with 116,000 miles on it.. At 129,000 miles I had to rebuilt the transmission $1500 now currently at 143,100 miles symptoms of transmission slipping hesitating yet again. Meaning a new rebuilt.. engine code P1751. I was thinking of buying the 2014 accord but the problems this car has given me not going to. HONDA doesn't appreciate it's customers and doesn't want to acknowledge The Problem with these transmissions.. 98-02 models #HateHonda

I love my 2002 Accord sedan, but wish I had gone with the coupe :( and ABS. It's a great car I bought it used from the dealer in 2005 and luckily it still had some of it's warranty left had it so when the trans started slipping they fixed it and gave me a rental car all for free and had it fixed in a day. The reason I love it so much is because it's not like these new cars where you HAVE to take it to the mechanic to get it fixed because the engine is covered or it's got comp glitches. I can change my spark plugs easily and that I like. It's very loud when driving on the freeway, you can barely hear the person sitting next to you. If you take care of your car you should have no problems.

Even the new versions of the Honda Accord Coupe do not appeal to me. If they still offered this car without alteration as a new vehicle, I would buy it in a heartbeat.

I bought my 2002 Accord brand new, and expected to have a good reliable car. I was mistaken. The first thing that happened was at 12,000 miles. The transmission stopped working. Honda gave me a hard time , but finally replaced it with a factory rebuilt one that never worked right. Second at 32,000. miles the paint on the hood pealed of the hood. Honda would not do anything about it my cost $800 to repair. At 36,000. miles the brake calipers froze up . Honda would not help at all. $750.00 my costs. On the Cat converter the cover had to be replaced every two years. at 60,000 mile the Cat converter crapped out. Even though the emissions are covered for eight years or 80,000 miles they would not cover it. At the dealership they crashed my car into another car as I was waiting for my car after another $1000. repair. I saw the accident happen, and they tried to say the damage was already there. My license plate was laying in their lot with part of my bumper. Honda did pay for that, but they had a lot of nerve about the whole situation. Now the transmission again was getting worse and worse. Now the car does not move. I had four documented complaints about the transmission, and Honda of America said they don't owe me anything and won't help at all. The car looks great garaged, and never missed a maintenance check. Honda was the only one that ever worked on the car. Now I have a nice looking peace of garbage sitting in my driveway waiting to be crushed at some junk yard. Honda's are garbage and they know it. Read up on this six generation Accord and everyone that has owned this car had many tranny problems, and Honda just does not care. Don't buy a Honda. I will never buy one again.

I bought a brand new '02 EX V6 coupe and kept it 8 yrs (10/01-11/09). I gave me 8 trouble-free years so I owe it a nice review. The only issue it ever had was 1 or 2 dried out engine seals. It did sit for 4 months while I recovered from an accident so not sure if it sitting awhile had anything to do with it. The only negative things I'd say about it was the poor visibility out the rear (you get used to it) and the disappointing gas mileage I got. I drove 90% city and the low fuel light consistantly came on at ~265 miles each tank. I miss that paid off car!! I sold it with 79k+ on it to a very happy person.

The cherry red accord has 120,000 miles on it and as of the fall of 2011, has been consuming 1/2 quart of oil per week. It is evident the oil rings went bad as black oil deposits coat the inside of the tailpipe. It's not blowing blue smoke, just consuming oil. We are still on the original transmission, which is better than most people have faired, but the hesitation in shifting is evident. When you slow down, you must come to a complete stop and wait a second for the car to shift into 1rst gear. Oh, Honda, I lost a lot of respect for you & these engineering f*&k ups and you won't admit it. I drive a 2003 Civic LX with roughly the same mileage. It has been a gem. No issues whatsoever.

Purchased a 2002 Accord 4 cyl about a year and a half ago, had about 85,000 miles on it. Before purchasing, took it to a Honda dealership, who checked it out. They said it was in great shape. It now needs a new transmission, with less than 100,000 miles. I've never had a car with less than 100,000 miles on it need a transmission. But from what I've heard, this seems to be a recurring problem with these cars. Contacted American Honda, who said they would not help with the repair (You know, I'm not the original owner, they have no dealership maintenance records, etc etc). Why should I expect them to own up to a known problem with their cars? Will probably be the last Honda I buy for a while.

I had transmission breakdown in my 2002 Accord EX, 4-cyl just close to 70,000 miles. The dealer price was $3500. This was too much and I got it fixed outside for $1500 which is not performing very good. Now I am hearing from several mechanics that you are lucky if you did not have transmission issues with a Honda before reaching 100,000 Miles. Note that Honda transmission flush needs the most expensive oil and costs more than some luxury cars; may be to compensate for their bad design.

Since April of 2002 ive had a 2002 Honda Accord ex-l and its still kicking i love the ride quality and really cant understand why other people say that the accord doesnt last past 150k. So far ive driven a little over 306,654 miles in the past nine years and i dont plan on trading it in or buying a new car until it cant be driven anymore. I can also say that ive never changed the engine ir transmission only have changed a sensor.

For the past 15 years, I’ve been a fan of Honda. In 2001, I bought a brand new Honda Accord and took meticulous care of the car. While there were moments of spirited driving, there was never any abuse of the engine. After just 103,000 miles, the vehicle was diagnosed with a cracked engine block. Honda initially refused to participate in any repairs. However, after extensive discussions with Honda, they offered 1,500 in a 7,000 repair. Needless to say, for a car that’s supposedly legendary in terms of reliability, I’m disappointed in the quality of the car and Honda’s response. Given the poor quality of the product and the lack of customer service, I will never buy a Honda again.

I owned this car starting at 40k miles. Seemed to be like other Honda Accords I have owned in the past (89, 98). I didn't realize at first how bad the transmission was because I was excited to have the power from the v6. Transmission was jerky from the beginning. I hated it. Worst driving experience I've ever had. Never knew when it would accelerate. I love Honda but they lost me as a customer with this transmission. I was lucky and the car was totalled at 118k from hail damage. I know the transmission was going out soon. Also, the dash was squeaky. The 6 CD changer broke at around 80k. The dashboard clock was replaced. Not the quality I had grown to expect from Honda.

My first car was a 1996 Honda Civic with manuel transmission LOVED it I only had to replace the clutch. Well needless to say it got recked so I decided to buy another Honda but this one is a 2002 Accord. I didn't start having proplems, real problems until abour 120,000 miles and im seeing that that i pretty good compared to what i've been reading. Now the trany is slipping and they want about 3,000 dollars to replace and the car is now only worth about $5,000. I think this is redic. I thought Hondas were suppose to las for ever. I mean it's a Honda. I guess not.

Starting at 35K I serviced the transmission every 15k at the dealers recommendation. About three years ago while the car was still in warranty I complained to the dealer about the car shifting had and jerking at stops when cold, the dealer said that was normal and didn't write it on the service ticket and said it was almost due for a trans fluid service. Now the transmission is lurching at stops and stalling in intersections. Honda has offered very little in the way of assistance and jacks up to price of the replacement transmission to compensate. Essentially they make you do an abnormal amount of costly service to keep their defective transmission working while in warranty.

129,000 miles - never a big problem

I purchased the car used from a dealer in 08 at 93,000 miles. While I owned the car, it was maintained well. I had the oil changed every 3-5k. I had the timing belt and plugs changed at the 120k mark ($900ish). I never had a problem, and I drove the car pretty hard. I ended up getting T-boned around 129k and the car was totaled... Every few months, something would come-up (vibration, check engine light, funny engine sound), but it always turned out to be minor and I don't think I ever spent more than $100 each I took it into the shop for any of those problems.

Clearly this model's transmission has a design flaw. So many transmission failures at 70k mileage. I used to believe that people can drive a Honda and not worry about any major problem before 100K. It's certainly not the case for us, though our Accord has always been dealership maintained. My Honda dealer first asked us to spend nearly $1k to replace two broken engine mounts, then told us the transmission still needs to be replaced, and would cost another $4,6K, which is comparable to the kbb's used car price. It's a class action law suit waiting to happen. I think we've got enough people just from this review page. Honda, please take this issue seriously, don't try to hide from it.

Made it to 126K, the transmission started slipping and a few months later thats all she wrote. The lights began to flash (engine, maint, and the D). Brought it to an honest transmission repair shop and he told me it was JUNK. $2000. to $2500. to rebuild it, 6 weeks before replaced timing belt, balance belt, water pump, sway bar bushing, plugs, transmission seal between engine $$$. This is the best built, most reliable car I have ever owned. Replaced front brakes once, 2 batteries, 2 sets of tires, upgraded plugs to e3 and wires to Granatelli MPG+ 8 mm and installed a K&N filter in the factory air box. I've done oil changes every 3000 miles and just recent;y changed the trans fluid. Now it isn't a sports car, but it wasn't built to be. If that's what you want, get something else. The minor upgrades (< $225) have increased my fuel economy to 27 mpg! Any car with 100,000mi that runs this good and gets 27 mpg is a great ride!

I love Honda without a doubt. I've had 2 Accords and one Civic and I probably would've kept them all except 1 was totaled in a crash (not my fault) and the other Accord was damaged by hail. The Civic was tried and true but I wanted to upgrade. I have had nothing but luck with Hondas. They have held up and been nothing but good for me. GREAT gas mileage on all of them. Awesome ride, nice and smooth and they keep going, and going and going. I am completely spoiled by Honda and refuse to buy nothing else.

I am on my 3rd Honda. My 2002 Accord only has 76,000 miles on it and the transmission went out. Cost me $3000.00 prior to that I had to replace the timing belt - had an oil leak also the master cylinder! Total in the past 4 months a whopping $4500.00. No recalls to speak of and HONDA AMERICA wouldn't do anything to assist. I have all my service records and always go to the HONDA dealership for repairs. HONDA has lost me as a customer forever.

I bought this car new in 2001. The transmission went out at 70,000 in spite of doing all scheduled maintenance. Honda Corp of American wouldn't help or discuss the matter. They refuse to acknowledge that my transmission should of been recalled with the rest of the recall transmission. The paint job was totally gone in the 8th year. I replaced the transmission with a new transmission, and now unsure if that transmission was any good. I always loved Toyota and wanted to try Accord out of curiosity. I'm totally going back to Toyota and take my chances. At least Toyota will "man up to their product". Honda hides and denies the obvious. I've driven this car for 9 years out of necessity.

I've 2002 Accord SE and my transmission started slipping when I hit the acceleration from 0 to 20 with check engine lights on, and on further tests Honda declares a BAD TRANSMISSION at 96,400 miles. It looks like I'm not alone here and I strongly wish Honda to recall this model.

Transmission problems! Transmission replaced at 110,000 miles and again at 165,000 miles. I have done the regularly scheduled maintenance on this car. I don't think it's my driving style either. For example, I usually get at least 60,000 miles from a set of tires (on third set). Honda replaced first transmission for me without any charge (or any explanation). Second one cost me $2k. Family has owned hondas since 1981. I have enjoyed owning this one for 9 years. Not sure if I will buy another Accord. I have not seen shining reviews of the 07 - 09 models.

This is the second accord (2002 SE 4 Door we owned), after my mom totaled our first one. We got it from a local used car dealership, the transmission started sliding when we hit 82k miles. While it is not worth it to have it replaced anymore, we can only live with it, and expecting jerking while step on the acceleration paddle.

Accord 2002 V6 is apparently a lemon with regard to transmissions - 385 reported failures around the 110,000/120,000 mile mark. No recall because it's not a safety issue, and no class action (YET!) Timing chain went at 100,000 - $1,500 - also a "known issue". Paint is starting to fail - also a known issue. How many known issues with this vehicle do I have to know about? I'm looking at $4,000 for a new transmission. We've been a 2-Honda family for the last 15 years. We will not even be a 1-Honda family ever again.

I bought this Honda brand new when I turned age 61. I do maintenance on it according to the manual. It has 75,000 miles on it now. No problems whatsoever. It handles very good, gets 23 MPG in town and 30 MPG on highway. I have a bad back but the drivers seat is so comfortable since I can adjust it to fit the small of my back. I will buy another Honda when I need to trade.

I bought this car 2 years ago and it has been very reliable. Once I had a starter problem which I replaced myself. This car only have 38, thousand miles on it but already it seems like it's beginning to develop transmission problems. At first I started hearing a little whirring, almost imperceptible sounds. Now its like a siren. Its takes eternity to shift from 3rd to 4th gear. When its slowing to a stop, I feel the tranny slams into a first gear. The fuel econ is not so great, but then again I live on a hilly island of St Thomas usvi.

I bought this car 5 years ago with 48,000 miles on it from a friend who buys cars from the dealer only auctions.I did my research and saw the 02 EX V6 came with a lot of standard items that were options on the earlier years. I also saw that the earlier years had transmission problems. The V6 has plenty of power for this car.I have had no problems with this car. This is a GREAT CAR! I change the oil every 3,000 miles, the car just turned to 92,000 miles so I found a great deal on ebay for a COMPLETE timing belt kit. Local dealer cost 450.00 eBay 325.00 including shipping from a Honda dealership. That's the biggest expense I've had to put into the car.I Would definitely buy this car again. A+

Bought this car when gas prices went sky high & needed to get out from under my SUV. Seemed like a solid investment, clean carfax, only 55k miles. Only had to do minor stuff to it for the first 20k (brakes, tires, etc). Then the CEL came on and I started to smell gas around 79k miles, took it to a mechanic & car leaking gas, quoted $900 on the low end/$1500 high to fix. No dealership would take it as a trade because they couldn't transport it. Paid to fix it & replaced both wheel bearings, drove it another 2k and the transmission failed. Quoted $2k on the low end/$3500 high, paid to fix it and the CEL came back on, needs new evap canister & TCS keeps kicking on. I'd never buy another Honda.

Just purchased this honda accord v6 coupe. It was a decent price and looked like it was well taken care of. Love the power and the handling. With all the snow and ice in philly right now, the traction control system is awesome and much appreciated. My only concern when I bought it was that it has 269K miles on it already. I had 2 people look at it and they couldn't find anything wrong so I bought it. It drives like it's brand new. You would never guess it had that many miles on it. Time will tell how much life I can squeeze out of it.

I have over 245,000 miles on my 2002 Accord, 4 cyl. auto, and have performed all scheduled maintenance: timing belts @ 90K, oil change every 5- 7,000 miles, trans fluid changed, the works. My first Honda, a 1990 Civic, had over 250,000 miles before I bought the Accord. I do lots of highway driving, but have no reason to stray from Hondas.

Bought this ex v6 from a local dealer about a year ago with 54k on the odometer. Today there is just over 90k. Ive gone on several trips to the mountains and MI over the year. The v-6 has great acceleration, the traction control comes in handy with this powerhouse. The tranny at times hesitates and has issues finding the gear it wants but thats only when its cold. The ride is great, in the twisty roads of the mountains it handles like a sports car but smooth like glass on the highway. I would suggest this car to anyone, in the past year and 36k later no issues what so ever, plan on running this one into the ground.

I've owned three Honda Accords - the oldest accord I owned was a wagon and was by far the best one. The 94 honda coupe and 2002 SE both had transmission problems once 90k + miles were reached. I thought the 94 was just a lemon, but how could I buy a lemon twice from a Honda Dealer? The Honda was nice while it lasted, but that is the problem - they didn't last. I will be trading my Honda for a Toyota, and will not be purchasing anymore Honda's. As another poster mentioned, Honda has lost their "quality" in workmanship.

Bought my EX-V6 coupe about six months ago and do not regret my decision. Have owned two Hondas previously, a 1993 and a 2001, both four cylinders. You can really tell the difference in the V6, much smoother at idle, much quieter, and easier to go around town. Get about 25 on the highway and about 20 in the city. The interior is very nicely laid out, everything is very clear and easy to reach. The auto climate control, sunroof, and leather sport seats add a lot of comfort. The trunk is large enough for many golf bags. The exterior is very nice looking as well, especially with the spoiler and exhaust tips. Just need some fogs. All I need is some better tires, way too loud.

Always owned Honda, Acura or Toyota due to the quality of the cars. Now I have this 2002 Honda Accord, 4cyl. I am very disappointed. I have 106k miles and the transmission is slipping. I had the major service performed and am told the transmission will need replaced. Honda will do nothing-says that my VIN# does not qualify for the 109k ext. warranty. Obviously, there are several others having the same issue & their VIN doesn't qualify either. Honda obviously has a problem with these cars and is not willing to do anything. Very disappointed. My next car will probably be a Toyota again. Wanted this car to last a long time but Honda is not taking care of the problem as they should.

I bought this car a few years ago. It had almost 50k miles on it. A year later I had to replace the transmission. A good thing that I had a warranty. About 9 months later, the check engine light came on. Autozone says it's a transmission problem. Take it to Aamco and they don't know what the problem is. In the last 3 months I have smelled transmission fluid burning. I'm not paying Honda a dime for a diagnostic. I'm just gonna buy something else. The sad part is that Honda knows this is a problem with this model. For some stupid reason, the class action lawsuit didn't cover this year Honda. I will never buy another Honda!

It was my dream to by a reliable car, although I never thought I could afford a Honda. Well, I had the opportunity to buy my Honda four years ago when it had 25000 miles on it. Now it has 75000 miles on it, and I still have not had any problems. It runs like a top. My goal is to reach 300,000 miles, and it seems very likely that that will happen. I have been very careful to maintain it. Although some Accords have had transmission problems, I hope with mine it will never happen. It seems that with Hondas, usually if they are maintained, they will run for a long time.

I drove this car off the showroom floor in April 2002, and it has been completely trouble free. Did the major service at 105K miles. Prior to spending the $1K I thought about getting a new car, but recognized that it would probably service my needs for another seven years at substantially less of a cost than a new car (with higher insurance rates, registration rates, sales tax, etc.). True, it lacks the excitement and this model is a common sight on the road. But that helps explain its magic. A wise choice for any consumer truly concerned about the total cost of ownership.

This is my second Honda, first one was a 1990 automatic and gave it to my friend with 235,000 (original trans). Should have kept it. But the 02 Accord, my first trans went out at 88k, second 130k, and we're getting ready for #3. Will trade before #3 comes. Has 145k. It's a shame, other than routine maintenance (other than a crankshaft seal fix which was no big deal) everything else was OK. SRS light stays on because of fault drivers side seat belt sensor. They are warrantied for life but need a $100 diagnostic fee first. Honda did replace my first trans for nothing, 2nd one I paid $600 total. I know about cars and do change the tranny fluid. I knew I should have got the 5 speed.

I like many others have a defective transmission with only 91,000 miles. Honda won't fix it. The transmission was slipping for many years but got worse the last 2 months. I went online and was surprised by all the other Accord owners with the same problem, which really surprised me about a Honda car. There were so many complaints that I was not sure why there is not a recall. I thought Honda had great quality, bad this did not happen in my case. By the way, the new transmission will cost me $35,000.

I have the familiar problem of having a bad transmission. Don't believe the others on this website that say changing your transmission will help avoid this problem. Whoever says this works for Honda. I say this because that is actually what I did (regular transmission changes) and it did not help, I now need a transmission repair at 90,000 miles. Honda won't help. I will trade it in for another car. I will also trade in my Honda CRV because of the frustration with this issue.

I drove this car off the showroom floor in 2002. I can't say enough great things about it. For 2002, this car was loaded and came with 6 disc changer, moonroof, rear spoiler, and leather seats. I drive this car all around VA and get about 33-35 MPG on highway. I can usually get about 450- 500 miles on a single tank. It's unfortunate the newer Accords don't get the mileage this one has, however I guess with the increase in size, you compromise MPG.

I have 127,000 miles of rush hour freeway driving on it. Unfortunately, this is the most boring car I have ever owned. It has all the personality of a refrigerator. In fact this car is only an appliance.

Love my car!!! This is only my second car. I have had her about three years. I do not keep up on the maintenance as I should and yet she has never given me any major problems. The only problem i have had is the driver window motor went out, easy fix did it myself, and replaced battery (normal). No other problems. This is an excellent starter car.

I bought this car used with about 65K miles on it and it has been great to me so far. Now with 130+K miles it has not yet had any problems. Fuel economy is not as good as I expected (23-32mpg) but still very good compared to others. I have no regrets buying this car and would gladly buy another.

Ok so I move to Montana and did a lot of car reviews and found this Honda Accord that was just the right price. I absolutely love the car it now has 60,000 miles on it and I have not had one problem in this past year. To keep a car in good shape you have to have regular maintenance. For ex. Oil change, tranny fluid flush. Up keep. Hondas are so reliable and I could not be happier with it. People have problems with cars if they don't take care of them. I love my car!

Where do I begin. At 60k the transmission went out on me. At 80k I have a crack in my engine block so I had to replace it. I had replaced the 6 disc CD changer 3 times now. I hear so much about how reliable Hondas are but this car isn't proving it. I can't wait to get rid of it. This car has done nothing but cost me more and more money out of my pocket. The amount of money I had spent already I could have bought something else. I will never buy Honda again.

I bought this car with 29,000 miles on it and have averaged 25,000 a year on it and have not had a single solitary problem, not one. Plenty of power for the size vehicle, gets good highway mileage. around town i get around 18 mpg, but i drive like an idiot. I also found the fold down rear seats to be useful on more than one occasion. Good stereo system.

I bought my Accord new because they are supposed to be low maintenance cars that run forever. After warranty expiration, I learned that "forever" is slang for until your warranty expires. Even though my car is six years old, it only has 40,000 miles on it and I'm replacing the transmission. I've learned that this is a very common problem among hondas. It does have a flimsy front cup holder that won't stay latched and has a lot of road noise when driving at high speeds. With only four cylinders, it's a little gutless when getting onto the freeway. All these things could be overlooked if I could just get the transmission to let drive it.

I love this car, bought it with 30K miles on it in 2005, now at 75K, three years later. This car has not given me ANY problems at all. I have it serviced regularly. I've gone through one set of tires and one battery. It is fun to drive, love the V-6 power. It looks brand new after a good car wash and I get compliments on it all the time. This is the best body style Honda has ever had. I will be sad to see the day I have to put the old girl down.

I had to have the transmission replaced at 93k miles I was lucky that I had the extended warranty. The dealership replaced it with one that had 50k on it now 30k later I have to put another transmission in it and replace the ABS modulator and my TCS comes on, on when I am on the hi-way. This is just crazy, I love my Hondas I have had and I am sad to say I will be getting rid of this one soon.

Honda, reliable, can't go wrong, right? Just a few months after purchase at about 60,000 miles I was informed they needed to replace the transmission. Ok, i had also purchase an extended warranty so i didn't pay anything out of pocket. Then I started seeing my ABS and TCS lights come on in the morning when I'd start my car, by the afternoon on the drive home they went away. Dealership used their computer diagnostic and said nothing was wrong so i ignored it too. Well now over 100,000 the lights don't go out and they tell me its a $1,200 job to replace the ABS modulator... I'm so happy, no not really.

I began by leasing my Honda in 2002. When the lease was up, I decided to purchase it. I've been very satisfied with my Honda. I traded a 1995 Aurora for it and although I LOVED my Aurora, the Honda has most of the same features. It's great on gas mileage and roomy enough for four people to travel comfortably. The stereo system really rocks and it's very easy to handle. I've only had to have routine maintenance and so far have had no major problems.

I've grown up always hearing how Nice Hondas were how they ran forever as Long as u change the oil and do the maintenance. Finally I bought one because I was driving 100 Miles a day I needed a car I could afford and it would still hold its value. Well what a let down my Honda has been I bought it with 60,000 Miles on it w no warranty and 2 months after buying it the trans starting slipping. I bough this car in April of 2006. I was looking at all the cars in the lot and this one caught my eye. I was impressed form the second I laid eyes on it. The feel, comfort, maneuverability, handle and ease of use are all excellent. The only drawback w\this car (like most Hondas) is cabin noise. Other than that, this car is virtually flawless. I recommend buying an accord as long as you are willing to put some money into preventative maintenance. It reminds me of a recent ad on tv where a woman asks when you turn your car on does the car return the favor. In my case...you're damn right it does! :-)

Overall awesome car but I do have a few gripes. Some interior pieces are cheaply made (i.e. rear cup holders) and occasionally I get some rattles but nothing too bad. Cup holder up front is a bit crowded if you stick a Big Gulp in there. My SRS light has been on for 6 mo...took it to get looked at...there was apparently no problem but light has decided to stay on. Gas mileage with wide performance tires is still at about 32 on the highway which is nice when gas is $3.40 a gallon. Around town gas mileage has been as bad as about 21- 22. Plenty of get up and go for a 4 cyl. Leather is of very high quality as are most of the other materials in the interior.

The 2002 Special Edition Accord is a rock solid car. 25-30 MPG. Exceptionally low maintenance. Mammoth trunk. A bit lacking in power (no V6), but more than capable. Still elegant inside and out after 6 years. Odometer and Clock are unusable after dark due to poor choice in LCD technology. Comfortable ride both on highway and in town. Plenty of room for the whole family. Cup holder door latch is flimsy and will probably drive you nuts. Another great Accord to add to the list of Accords I've owned. Buy with confidence.

We bought the car with only 13k on it, so I can't say much about reliablity, but man is it fun to drive! It also gets looks everywhere I drive it, even though it's stock. The leather seats are very comfortable. The only problem with the coupe is that if you are not careful you'll beat your head on the roof getting in (ouch!). Other than that, I would buy another one in a minute.

This is my 3rd Honda (2nd Accord). I haven't had any major problems with this car at all. The drivetrain has been perfect. Only routine maintenance and at 72,000 miles, she still runs like a champ. Oddly enough, the fuel mileage has gotten better with age. The I-4 motor has plenty of power. The ride is still smooth. I can see keeping this car for another 100,000 miles before I even consider selling it for another Honda.

I'm a die-hard fan of Honda cars, I've own several of them and none has ever given me any reason for a major complaint. My current '02 EX V6 coupe is no exception. It is reliable, fun to drive, stylish, comfortable, affordable for all that it has to offer. Although it is an Accord, this coupe body style is not "bland" at all. It is unique and rarely can be seen on the road. While the combined average mileage of 25-26 miles/gallon isn't excellent, the V6 gives exceptional power to the drive. Keep up the oil changes and the engine will never fail. Excellent value for the price, exceptional car for its class.

I just bought the 2002 EX used. It is exactly like my 2001 I bought new in late 2000. It is my sixth Honda and will not be my last. As before, I am still amazed at the build quality, power, economy, layout, design and dependability of these cars. The 2002 looks almost brand new inside and out. The seats are still in excellent shape as well all other trim parts. I traded the 2001 in on an SUV because we needed a larger vehicle, but I am so glad to get back into an Accord. Compared to anything it's still the best around. I love the way the fuel gauge doesn't move very much. We're planning on trading the SUV next year on a 2008 Accord.

Need a better transmission

The transmission began to jerk after 50000 miles and totally broke after 85000 miles. Spent more than $22K to get it fixed and now the driving is very smooth. There was also some transmission issue in my another Honda Accord (1996 model), which was totaled by a drunkard. Everything else is good.

This is the car I wanted 3 years ago when I ended up with a Hyundai. I finally got my Accord Coupe. It is everything I ever wanted and more. Love the dark blue metallic paint, as well as the tan leather interior. Some of the interior plastic seems flimsy...but nothing too bad. The ride is remarkably smooth, and the car handles great. Overall I've been getting 26-27mpg, the same as my Hyundai, which was smaller. Wish the headroom and rear visibility was a little better, but hey, it's a coupe, and those are some trade-offs for having a coupe.

I fell in love with my accord the first time I saw it! It was loaded! It had the fog lights and lip kit and aftermarket rims. It's been a great car and I have had a kit on it for a few years now. It handles well and I haven't had problems with my tranny that some have had with this model accord. I love that the seat is fully adjustable cause i'm a shorty! If you have an opportunity you should buy one of your own!

We bought this car in 2004 with 30K miles. It is moderately equipped (all pwr, auto, 4cyl.). Three years later, it has only needed gas, oil, some new rubber, and a brake switch. The seats are a touch firm for my taste, but I only drive it on road trips (wife's car). Great gas mileage. Acceptably quick (typical 4cyl sluggishness off the line, but great passing power). This has been a fantastic car for us. Few complaints.

Great car, I love the gas mileage for a V6 and the car is more than comfortable. The standard stereo system is nice and clear at loud volumes. However for the money, I wish I would have shopped around better, its nice but a typical family sedan. Could have gotten something a bit sportier and catchier to the eye.

I bought this car from Roadsport Honda in Toronto in July of 2006. I have put about 22,000 km on it so far already and have to say that it is a far cry from my 98 Malibu junk. The honda is responsive and gives pretty good fuel economy. In the cold winter I get about 25 mpg (I did the calculation), Summer gives me about 29-30mpg. Not bad. Good automatic, very reliable vehicle. Does everything better than my 98 Chev Malibu could do. It felt like I was stepping into an entirely different class of vehicle.

This was my first new car bought in 2002. I could not be happier with the purchase. It seems to run as well as the first day I owned it, and it now has over 50,000 miles. I plan on owning it for at least 5-7 more years. The handling is outstanding. The power is not overly impressive, but very adequate for daily driving. Passing on the interstates is not a problem. Another strength is the resale value, which reflects the outstanding build quality of this car. I just feel smart owning this Honda. A great blend of economy and reliability.

My 2002 has been a very reliable car. I have the 4-cyl. and it is peppy enough to be fun and safe. I did have the service light come on, twice, because of a fault in the air- bag system. The dealer fixed it both times, under warranty. Also, I had to replace the battery, at around the four year point. Aside from regularly scheduled maintenance, that's it! I've owned over a dozen cars and I've never had a more trouble-free experience.

I bought this car brand new in 2002. My first V6 and it drives like a dream. I have a lead foot and do a lot of fast breaking so I've had to replace the brakes and rotors 3 times since I bought it. Original tires lasted 80K miles. Changed all the belts after 100K miles even though it didn't need it. Maintenance on this car is a little pricey, but so worth it. This car is so much fun to drive and it's a hot little car even if it's not a sports car. After I wash it, I still get compliments even after owning it for 4 years. People who've known me longer still ask, "did you get a new car?" I worry about buying a new car when this one dies. I don't know if any other car will live up to this one.

I loved it when I first saw it! I knew Accords were excellent vehicles based on previous ownership. While it has high miles, I knew if it was well maintained there shouldn't be any problems. The previous owner took great care of it. The interior was virtually flawless. The room is adequate (not bad for a 6'3" guy). The controls are easy to reach. The ride is the best I ever had. That car hugs the road like nothing I ever driven! It had met and exceeded even my Honda expectations. I picked up my Honda in '02, wanting a troublefree commuter car. At 26K, the transmission completely died on mine. This is apparently common. The dealerships say otherwise. The car is pretty solid, though and the gas mileage is 25-30. The interior fabric is in fact, junk. For what this car cost, I expected better. The electrical system has always been junk, with more bugs than a rain forest. Also, be forewarned that your insurance will be high for this car, as Hondas are theft magnets. Too much cabin noise, but great trunk space. Back seat's a joke. 23K bought no luxury, but still wasn't cheap. Decide if you want to go upmarket or be and affordable hauler.

I bought this car new, only problem I have had is that the drrivers' seat leather has split on 1 of the seams 3 times. Honda replaced 2 times without any problem. The V6 is nice at first it lacked a bit of responsiveness but a K & N air filter seemed to take car of it and may have helped the fuel economy a tiny bit, kind of hard to tell when you have a lead foot. This car is approaching 4 years old and 60k miles and still turns heads. I think the rear spoiler really sets off the looks. Mechanically everything has been smooth and that is great, especially since I don't baby this car and never have. But I do keep up the regular maintance which I'm sure will get this car 200K miles or more

I've owned my Accord for 4 years now. It's only required the normal maintenance, with the exception of new brakes, front and rear. It's been a great car, and fun to drive. It's interesting to compare this with the first Accord I owned...a 1986 LX. I'd drive up into the Rockies at 45 mph, tops! This car cruises easily up the slopes at 70 mph, and isn't breathing hard. It has a sumptuous feel to it today, even four years after I bought it. I'd heartily reccomend an Accord to anyone who's quality conscious.

After much research, I recently purchased a used 02 Accord. I am a diehard supporter of American cars, but after getting two lemons in a row from GM I was convinced to try Honda. So far, I am really impressed after 1,000 miles. There is one rattle in the dash, but should be an easy fix. Many complaints I have read about are nitpicks to the car - minus some tranmission issues. The tranny issues appear to be fixed. The V6 doesn't get the best gas mileage...but is one of the best engines I've driven. I now understand "silky smooth". For those that complain about gas mileage - get the 4 cylinder. For those that want to have a little fun scooting the family around - get the V6! Great car!

The 2002 Accord EXL was my first new car purchase and I am very pleased. I knew that I needed a reliable car for at least the next five years and that's exactly what I got. Low maintainence, great fuel economy all in a package that is fairly classy. My only complaint is the pick-up -- I dont know if its just the reality of my car getting older, but my car's acceleration has decresed appreciably.

Overall a great, reliable car. I've never had any problems with it and it now has 53k on it. Handles very well and gets good gas mileage. Its not the most exciting car to drive, but it gets me from point a to b. Upgraded to rims instead of hubcaps and it is a nice touch. The eternal blue is a very pretty color and I have received many comments on it. Trunk spoiler is a must. The 4 cyl could have more power, doesn't really have a lot of power when accelerating. Cloth seats are still in good shape as well as carpet and floor mats.

I bought my Accord because it was supposed to be so wonderful. I bought it new and I've had problems with the car since early on. The car now has 51,000. The brake rotors have been resurfaced twice. The door lock motors have all failed. The power window motors have all failed. The air conditioner compressor had to be replaced. The car has never shifted gears smoothly. It gets terrible gas mileage, especially when the air conditioner is on. I am lucky to average 22 mpg and that is driving under the speed limit. My "reliable" Honda has cost me a pile of money in repairs. So far, the engine has not failed, I guess that will be next. I wish I had bought something else.

The ride comfort of the Honda is very poor. The economical part of the vehicle is very good. The transmission is the weak part of the 2002 (4cyl) model. Vehicle has been checked out twice by the Dealer. Dealer cannot find problem. The transmission downshifts and upshifts very harsh at intermediate times. There is not a pattern to problem. Now I worry if I am going to be broke down on the side of the highway at some time in the near future and not covered by warranty.

Bought the car used at 40k miles; been driving it for 4 months. Gas mileage is a little shy of what I was hoping for... getting 24 mpg average; however, it suits my 2 car seat life style nicely. Immediately upgraded the cloth interior w/Classic Soft Trim leather and the car looks brand new. As I read the other reviews, several things stand out as true; wind noise above average, low beams are low at night, rattles and bumpy ride is evident on less than average roads, and the cruise control works to hard...after hitting resume hang on, because the respones is equivalent to you mashing the pedal to the floor. Overall, sexy family hauler w/$3k in upgrades; leather interior, tires/rims, etc.

Well, as a 16 year old who's just started driving, I have to say this is an excellent car. Powerful and economical I-4. Only time it struggles is fully loaded with 5 people in the mountains of Pennsylvania. Excellent build quality. Steering is responsive and offers plenty of feedback, as do brakes. Only odd noise is a clicking coming from the sunroof when it's cold. SE package offers a sunroof, CD player, alloy wheels and a few other nice features. However, 4 wheel disk brakes, ABS, and power seats would've been greatly appreciated. Compared to our previous 98 Camry, the Accords better handling, stronger motor and nicer design inside and out make me love it.

I was hesitant to buy an Accord because everyone has one. But after my test drive I can see why that's the case. It's a great car, fun to drive, and I know it is reliable from Honda's strong reputation. I love the features that came standard on this car. It is a definite upgrade from my Sunfire.

I will admit I have only owned the car for 2 months now, but I have some complaints. Passing power is almost a joke. My 2002 stratus would blow the doors off this thing. I am almost afraid to pass in it. This V-6 seems to be powerless in the top end. My fuel mileage is not so great either. On long trips averaging 65mph I only get 25-26 mpg. The dodge got 28-29 with the V6. Other than that we love the car. Climate control is a must have. Being able to see out of your car is a plus. If you dont know what I mean drive a stratus. Having a large trunk opening is great as well. Hopfully the milage will improve over time.

Bought our EX-V6 new days before the all-new 2003's were launched (didn't like their styling for the extra price). Very satisfied so far. Have put 45k over 3 years. Only issues: -steering wheel mounted audio controls didn't function properly, replaced under warranty - driver side headlight bulb replaced twice in 3 years, had similar problems on my '93 Accord - front brake pads & tires close to replacement at only 45k - not as quick at normal acceleration as I thought 200 hp would be. - auto climate control isn't very smart (tends to run the a/c even at a high temperature setting). The above are minor issues, in my opinion and don't keep me awake at night. Overall very pleased.

Still the best car I've had in 30 years.

This is my 5th Honda, and it is the nicest one I have owned! I really like the fact that we can fit my family in and take it on trips. Quiet, and very easy to drive. A little bit of adjustment from my 2001 Civic LX, but a good adjustment. Ended up with this when my dealer suggested it was a better deal than a 2003 with the new body style.

This is my second Accord (had a '92 Accord LX sedan w/ over 120k miles & have had no problems with it). It is amazing how Honda can improve on a car that is already great & very reliable. Improvements in technology (VTEC engine, safety, etc.), styling, & ergonomics are some of the things that I like about this car. What a joy it is to drive this car...it makes me realize how smart I am when I bought it.

This is an exceptionally built vehicle. The Honda quality is unsurpassable by many manufacturers. The ride is smooth and everything is laid out well within reach of the driver. It is a very user friendly vehicle and the 2.3L 4 cylinder engine is very economical especially in this time we are in now with soaring fuel prices. Modifications are abundant for this vehicle, but not necessary if you're like me and in your mid-thirties. The interior is spacious and has numerous features that come with the SE package. I am very impressed with this car and will be trading in my Ford Windstar for the Honda Odyssey.

I've driven it for 2.5 years has 50,000 miles on it, not a single problem on it so far. Replaced 4 tires at 38,000 miles. What surprised me was when I replace the brake pads at 44,000 miles, the car shop told me the pads on lt wore less than half, which means it's still good! What a brake!

Our Accord has been nothing short of wonderful. The car has been incredibly reliable and incredibly solid. It drives well, is very comfortable, and is perfectly sized. the rear seat is actually pretty roomy (after you clamber back there), and the stereo is good. A sports car this is not, but it drives very well.

Leased it brand new, and since we knew a friend of a friend we got a great deal. Should have bought it, though. Very powerful 4 cylinder engine. When you need to pass somebody, there's no problem. Nice to have power everything, REALLY nice factory sound sytem, handles great, very comfortable on long drives and does definitely get the 30/31 mpg on the highway. Unfortunately, it does get the 23/24 mpg in the city too, and with the newer Accords touting much better gas mileage, it makes you think. However, for a car that originally priced at just over 21K, what an amazing vehicle. Had to trade it in cause we needed an SUV, but it was solid to drive and defintely miss it.

Traded a 1999 Accord EX 4-cyl for a 2002 EX V-6 at closeout. Had seen internet pictures of new style '03, hated rear styling (still do!). Like improvements in 02 vs. 99: 6-CD in dash, better stereo, side airbags, better seat support in lumbar, auto climate control, better looking tail lights. 4 minor problems noted after delivery; only sunroof required 2 visits (noise, fitment). Car sometimes makes weird moaning sound like sick cow for up to 8 hours after shutdown; not taken to dealer yet. Engine power good; noise level of engine OK, gas mileage average (21-26), at least it uses regular; car has worse than average wind, tire, and road noise; handles great but very stiff city and hwy ride.

Engine power is so-so. it gives enough power to merge in, thats about it. It could use a few more horses. Just as always, my honda accord is more realiable then any other car I have owned. I love the accord, its interrior design is top notch with comfort built in. The sleek outside is attractive, and it's performance is awsome. The only thing I would trade it in for is another honda or acura. Love the car.

I test drove the Acura TSX and the Acura TL before chosing this Accord with 21K miles. The TSX was a bit small and did not accelerate as smoothly as the V6 Accord. The TL is wonderful but a bit pricey and uses premium fuel. I chose the Accord with 200 HP & leather interior so I have an affordable luxury car with only 60 horses less than the TL. In average driving I won't miss the 60 HP. I considered buying a new Accord but the '02 had one owner will all the service records and price was perfect. I'm considering putting 17in wheels on it to replace the 15in that came with it.

OUR CAR IS A LEMON FROM DAY ONE. THE A/C MISSING DUCT WORK AND CAUSED WATER TO DRAIN INSIDE THE CD CHANGER THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND NOW A BAD MOLDLIKE SMELL THAT CANNOT BE REMOVED. THE CAR FAILS TO START ON OCCASION. THE FUEL PUMP COMES ON ABOUT EVERY FIVE MINUTES WITHOUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION BUT THE DEALER SAYS THAT IS NORMAL. THIS WILL BE THE LAST HONDA I WILL EVER OWN. BUYER BEWARE!!! THIS CAR WAS MEANT FOR THE CRASH DUMMIES.
