I have a love hate relationship with this car. I love that it has 122k on it an other than a few minor problems there hasn't been anything major happen with this car. I bought it because the reliability of these old school tools is reknowned in fleets and with loyal customers. The down side is that if the road is anything less than billiard table smooth the car rattles, squeaks, shakes, and shimmies its way over every bump and pothole on these budget deprived streets of Savannah. No sense of straight ahead on the road. Crosswinds blow the old girl all over the road. And yet, I average 20 miles to the gallon on my commute and can get up into the high 20's on road trips.

This heavy cruiser is a fantastic highway car getting a high of 27.3 mpg on a trip from Savannah to upstate NY. Smooth ride as long as the hiway is smooth. Poor around town performance as the tall gearing has the transmission constantly downshifting at even the slightest hint of throttle depression. Huge trunk is not the most usable as everything has to fit in the well. Poor sense of straight ahead. Handling is pretty much non existent as the car has very poor steering feel and is easily affected by bumps and ripples on these old Savannah streets. I bought this after an accident thinking that I would be safer. I have been and it has been mechanically reliable but the downside is a boring car

The P71 Crown Vic is a really cool car. If you like big and roomy, you'll love the former cop car Crown Vic. If you like good performance, you'll enjoy it too. Great acceleration with the 4.6L GT V8. Nice anti-lock brakes without a severe bucking bronco effect. Nice tight steering makes it quite maneuverable for a big car in city traffic but use two hands on the freeway at full speed. While not a race car, it does offer plenty of get up and go. It's no wonder cabbies like these birds! The main drawback is fuel consumption. I get about 15mpg (combined), so what you get is a car that is like the Concorde (the aircraft): Big, fast, and burns gas like one!

I bought this car after totaling a 626 in a rear ender. The car is great out on the road. She literally is a land yacht on long interstate trips and I got 27.3 mpg on one trip from GA to upstate NY. Around town here in Savannah is another story. Potholes and washboard surfaces befuddle the old live axle and she's a handful to park and maneuver around the squares in Savannah. and then, of course, when gas went to $4 a gallon even the fair mileage wasn't looking to good.

This car is old fashioned boat anchor technology but it cranks and goes reliably every time. Fuel mileage is respectable for the size and weight of the vehicle 18-20 city/suburban 22-27 highway. They don't build them like this anymore and for that we should be both sad and grateful. Sad because it is a very reliable car and great on long distance road trips. Grateful because this car is navigated more than driven and is a festival of squeaks and rattles. Resale value tanks early so if you buy one plan to drive the wheels off it.

Up until 50000 miles the vehicle was flawless; after that it has been nothing but down hill. Coil pack, plug wire, starter, a/c (several times) rear wheel bearing (twice), all kinds of electrical problems. I have been a Ford man all my life, but I will never buy any Ford product newer than a 96 model again. I would not recommend the 2002 Ford Crown Vic.

Put the vehicle in service on January 1, 2002. Have just about 80,000 miles on it at this point. Of course have mounted new tires, replaced brake pads, replaced two windshields, tune up and normal maintenance. Ford replaced one sensor without charge. Nothing has broken. The vehicle is problem free. The car is no drag racer but for its size and weight its mid range acceleration is impressive. Handling, including braking, is very competent for a car this size. Even with the older steering (it is not rack and pinion) the feed back/control are fine. We get a lot of bad weather, i.e. snow, but the traction control and ABS helps. Not as good as AWD or front wheel drive but not bad for rear wheel drive.

I recently found the perfect Crown Vic
LX Sport after a long search.
Monochromatic red with all the options.
Tan leather interior. This is a great
car with many nice features. Seems 2002
had everything going right for this
vehicle. My other vehicle is a 1993
Mercury Cougar XR7 with 302 V8.

Until the price gouging on Mercury
Marauders subsides, the Crown Victoria
LX Sport is a worthwhile alternative.
Although in a side-by-side test drive,
I could really notice the Marauder's
extra horsepower, better sound and
larger tires, it wasn't $10,000 better
than the LX Sport (including
incentives).
Both the Marauder and the LX Sport are
VASTLY superior to their progenitors
(Grand Marquis and Crown Victoria,
respectively). Both are much quicker
and handle significantly better.
The LX Sport is as close to a Police
Interceptor as a the average civilian
can buy.

This car is fun and functional. It
carries adults in the rear seat without
them being cramped. It accelerates to
highway speeds (65 MPH) on the shortest
of on-ramps. The trunk can hold more
than your wife could ever pack! I can't
understand why people would buy a
cramped little Honda when you can get
this for about the same price. This car
has zero defects and the fit and finish
is perfect. And I do get 25 MPG on the
highway and 21 MPG around town with
this rear-wheel drive V-8!

This is the first Ford auto I've owned.
Thus far no problems of a major concern.
Service has been acceptable if your
willing to wait long periods.
Car is very comfortable to drive long
distances with. Wife says it's too big!

I guess I'm a little bit younger than
the average Crown Vic owner, but I love
them! This is my 4th one. All of my
Crown Vic's have had excellent
reliability and are still going
strong. I have sold my old ones to
friends and the 91 has 250K, the 92 has
198K, the 95 has 154K all on the
original unrebuilt drivetrains....
Need I say more?? The comfort on the
highway is unsurpassed. I would
recommend this car to anyone. After
all, this basic design (V8, auto, rear
wheel drive, full body on frame) dates
back to the dawn of automobiles and
Ford has certainly exterminated the
bugs out of this design. :)

These cars are a raging bargain! For the price of a well-equipped Camry you
can have the smoothness and power of a V8 engine and room for six. This
is my sixth Crown Vic or Grand Marquis and I am skewing the averages for
age of ownership, since I owned my first one at age 31 (I'm now 44). Just try
finding a comparable V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive sedan for under $40k. If
you rule out the Crown Vic's uppity cousin, the Lincoln Town Car, the pool of
contenders is left largely to the German and Japanese luxury
marques--Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Infiniti and Lexus. And none of those will
accommodate six passengers.
Exellent, solid car.

The CV is a wonderful car on the
highway, the ride is smooth, solid and
with the optional handling package,
firm enough for decent handling. The 5
passenger sport appearance pkg (LX
Sport for 2002) makes for a much
sportier apperance. For those of us who
think that a column mounted shifter is
to stodgy, the floor shifter is a nice
option.

I have 7 Ford Crown Victoria's ranging from 1998 to 2002 and they are all very excellent and reliable cars. They can put up with the abuse i put them through such as peeling out and doing donuts. Unfortunately I will not get to drive them for long because they will be turned into fleet vehicles which is why they were bought. I am only 17 but I love the Ford Crown Victoria because it is a great American Muscle Car.

This is the 4th time I have bought this type of vehicle, I like the ride that is unsurpassed by ANY vehicle, in my opinion, and I have checked several cars that are priced a lot higher than the C.V. I witched to a chrysler product last year thinking I would like a smaller car but was dissapointed, so I returned to the Crown Vic, and am VERY satisfied with itcomfort
