Bought the car new. No issues, 304000 mile on the car now, still going strong. Love the room and the feeling of driving a reliable, safe chevy Tahoe . The 5.3 V8 is a great motor.Only maintenance repair was brakes water pump and oil changes.

Purchased this 2002 LS (with most of the LT features) in April 2015 with 104K on the clock. It's now December 2015 and we are approaching 123K. We have driven it on at least a half dozen trips between Dallas and Chicago, Asheville-NC and Colorado Springs. With the exception of having to replace the flex fuel module, the truck has been amazing. Extremely comfortable, and with handling reflexes that would otherwise be expected of a much smaller SUV. Absolutely love the 325 CID V8 - smooth and pulls strong all the way to 6000 rpm. It uses a quart of oil about every 6,000 miles - amazing. It has hauled anything we have had to stuff into it. June 18, 2016 Update: Just passed 132K. Have just been filling the tank and changing the oil/filter. And enjoying every mile behind the wheel. A comment on the suspension. The GM "ComfortRide" suspension is generally too soft for my liking. On normal roads it can get a little bouncy. But where the suspension really excels is on gravel or dirt roads, or pothole-filled gravel parking lots. Still, overall, I would like it to be more controlled in normal driving. Sept 30, 2016 Update: Just passed 139K miles. Still just changing the oil/filter, rotating the tires. Our most recent new task for the tireless Tahoe has been to tow a roughly 3000 pound travel trailer. Recently took in on a 3000 mile trip from Dallas to Myrtle Beach and back. We use tow-haul mode depending on the situation (hills, heavy traffic, etc.) - works as advertised. Even with the 3.73 rear end and the 325 CID V8 (yields about 1900RPM at 70MPH in 4th/OD gear), you feel the extra weight of the trailer. Still, the 325 seems to have plenty of power when needed when going up hills and passing slower traffic. Real world gas mileage continues to be 12-14 around town, 16-17 highway - without the trailer; 13-14 highway while towing the trailer.

This was the best car I've owned!

I'll miss my Tahoe. My mom and dad bought it with about 45k miles on it and gave it to me when it got to about 190k. I drove it for about 3 years until it got to 265k! I had to replace some things but at over 200k miles I felt like that was normal. Then, I got a 2009 Buick Enclave with 28k miles on it and have had to do more work to it than I ever thought about doing to the Tahoe! Great car to own.

We bought our 2002 Tahoe with 99K on it. It was super clean. Within the first 3 months we replaced the rack and pinon steering, and the front A/C condensor. One year later we replaced the back A/C condensor. Then it began to die while driving, let it cool off and it would do it again, all b4 125K. I think I got a lemon because everybody else gets 200K from them. I loved our Tahoe and I am going to buy another one, if I get burned again it will be the last one I buy, but I really dont expect that to happen.

Purchased LT 4x4 model used with 42K miles on it...now 130K miles later the only thing I've had to do is put gas and oil in this work horse and it goes! I have owned everything under the sun and typically have maintenance problems with vehicles around 100K, but the Tahoe has broken that mold and I could not be happier. Hopefully they still make them like this when I buy a newer one.

Believe it or not,our Yukon had 160000 miles when I bought it for my wife on Mothers Day 09. Except for a water pump replacement, which was a snap to do myself, we have had no sign of trouble with this Black Beauty. Great ride. Very comfortable. A little hard on fuel but we don't complain. 12 mpg on average. It was as new inside and out when we bought it and still is as new. A wonderful Vehicle. Only one problem. Purchased new in 02 and just gave to my son with 180k miles on it. Maintenance items were normal wear items with very little in major repairs. I Normally trade my cars at 100K miles but liked the Tahoe so much I held onto it for 180k miles. Miles were road miles not around town. 18 MPG highway when new, and just checked at 180K and still gets 18 MPG highway. Turning radius is incredible, comfort is excellent, ride is "car-like", still looks like a new car. Best all-around vehicle I have owned. Will purchase another when GM doesn't stand for "Government Motors".

240,000 mi and counting no problems mechanically, or electronically. However, GM discontinued analog Onstar in 2004, which stinks!! but other than that this vehicle masters in reliability. Zero problems, and no stranded or unsatisfied drivers. My Tahoe proves that GM can meet if not beat foreign automakers in reliability, and i hope it's seen more, and more people will buy GM, and mot Foreign. Despite SUV still looks, drives, and rides great. I have 1000% confidence that this Tahoe will no problem rolling over to 3 if not 500,000 miles. Domestics are as reliable as the Foreign automakers advertise, only I've got the physical evidence to prove the above statement. I love this tahoe!!

Amazing that people complain about gas mileage on a large SUV that pulls almost 9,000lbs. I've had my Tahoe for 6 years and will never sell it (I've never kept a car longer than 5 years). ZERO repairs, only maint. The ONLY thing that REALLY bothers me is my Onstar was ANALOG and was canceled a couple years ago by GM with no opportunity to upgrade, even if I paid for it. It WAS one of my favorite features. The most surprising characteristic...the ride! It rides like a car on the highway, very smooth. Power is awesome, and since I avg. 75 on CA freeways, mileage is normal. The AUTO 4wd is superb, trany strong, and the Vortec engines are bulletproof. One of the best vehicles I've ever owned.

Love my Tahoe!! I pull a 20' boat occasionally, and it's a breeze! I'm a big guy (6'4") and I love the roominess. It's also a very comfortable ride, great amenities (all power seats, windows, etc., etc.), pretty good sound system, push-button 4WD. I've garaged it and otherwise tried to maintain it well w/regular service. It has been extremely dependable and very utilitarian (hey, it's a sport "utility" vehicle, right)? If you are in the market for a used but dependable, well-performing, roomy SUV (understanding you won't get Prius mileage, to say the least) and can find one well-maintained, go for it!!

The transmission went out initially at 75k miles, then again with 97k miles on it (luckily under the 36k warranty). Now with 106k miles on it the flex fuel sensor has gone out, and guess what? It is a dealer only part (quote for $800.00 from dealer to fix) You can buy on-line from GM for about $300.00 vs $500.00 at the dealer (love the markup) All in all I will never own anything from Government Motors again, worst reliability of any vehicle I have ever owned. Which is saying something as I have owned an old IH Scout which lasted longer and caused me less head aches.

When I bought my Tahoe, I traded in a Ford Explorer. I knew I was going up in size, but that didn't bother me. I loved the room in this new vehicle. To my surprise, parallel parking was much easier in this vehicle than in the Ford, which was smaller. Only draw back is the steering colum in this vehicle had to be replaced which was a problem with all trucks for GMC/Cheverolet.

This has been the most comfortable vehicle I've ever driven. It's big enough but not too big. I like the rear cargo door. You can open just the back window or the whole thing. There's no pillar to block the view. It's easy to drive. Plenty of elbow room. Layout of dashboard is practical. The Tahoe offers a quiet, smooth ride. It's comfortable on long road trips.

Worst vehicle I ever owned. Steering intermediate shaft needs lubed every 3000 miles. Engine knocks when first started. I get maybe,12 MPG. Seats are the worst I ever had the misfortune to sit in. If ninety % use their vehicle for transport of the driver only, why don't these idiot engineers design a vehicle that a person over 5'2" can get comfortable in. I mean does it make sense to cram a person in a cocoon shaped drivers compartment with their feet stuck in one position, the floor curved, so their feet are never on a flat surface, a steering wheel that will not adjust fwd and aft, seats that only adjust the bottom half, arm rest that stick in the air when top half is reclined.

This is 2006 and this is my first rig. I bought my 2002, Z71 and I can only kick myself in the behind for not getting an SUV earlier instead of tooling around in sedans or sports cars. Not only is it a good looking truck that other people love as well as I do, but the ride is fantastic! I'm 6'4 with very long legs and I have never felt more comfortable on long drives. I was blessed with the Delco sound system which after several test drives in other Tahoes was the best. The system BOOMS crystal clear! Nice, quiet engine, power and room when you need it. When the 2nd row seat is folded down it looks like a small living room. Snow storms in Kansas City, MO.? Like a hot knife through butter!

I used to own a 1998 Tahoe that I lovingly called the 'White Devil' - anything that could go wrong with it mechanically, did. Regardless, I obviously liked the features enough to buy a 2002. I had an initial scare with less than 5k miles when the transmission went out (I'll let this one slide), but they gave me a loaner and fixed it in no time. 55K miles later it's great! While I have had some problems with the climate control, there have been no more problems with mechanical reliability, all of the accessories are holding together, and the paint quality is outstanding. I plan to keep this car for another 100k miles, so IÂ’m keeping my fingers crossed that the reliability continues.....

I've been bitten by the piston slap GM engine at less than 25k miles. The dealership is hesitant to do anything other than give me the "carbon-top runaround." I'd be wary to ever own another GM product. The warranty isn't worth the paper it was written on. At this point the dealers refuse to look at the truck when I tell them that the engine is making noise. Sadly, my next vehicle purchase (Jan 05) will be affected by this unfortunate situation.

My 2002 Tahoe has been everything I expected. Even with the smaller engine it has great pickup even on the freeway. The standard package provides so much comfort there is no need to add any extras.

My wife chose this truck; at the time I would not have chosen such a large vehicle. However, after over two years of trouble-free performance, I'm a believer. Our Minnesota winters are harsh; the snow, sand and salt are tough on everything. But after two winters, our 2002 Tahoe still looks and performs as new. These are handsome, comfortable and durable vehicles.

A great value for the money!

A fantastic SUV for the money. I have the fancy, decked-out version with the optinal Z71 off-road package, which gives it a really taut, robust (albeit a teensy bit rough) ride. Corner handling is excellent for a bus this size. I currently have a little over 40,000 miles on it and the brakes are hardly half-way through!! I had a really bad experience with the brakes on the previous model (the previous body-style), but this is worlds better. Very comfy and roomy inside, the A/C is superb to control and maintain temperature. Very reliable so far, although I've only had it for a year-and-a-half!

I've had my Tahoe with the Z71 package for 3 months now and I love it. Leather seating is extremely comfortable and the ride is quiet even on the highway. Plenty of cargo room for transporting kids to college, grocery shopping, and even my new washing machine. Love the sporty Z71 exterior and pleasantly suprised at the turning radius.

I've been absolutely thrilled with my 2002 Tahoe. The seats are so comfortable (and the heated leather is so nice on cold mornings!) and the 2nd row seating is even quite comfortable. It's easy to park and complete tight turns. Super quiet even at high speeds on the highway and a wonderful smooth drive even on the awful streets of Detroit. Surprisingly good gas milage for a heavy V8 with pep.

It's a great car for carpooling kids to school, shopping for grocercies and mulch, and road-tripping to Disney World. The leather is comfortable and sporty, and the third row seat allows room for 8 passengers. But this sporty mommy vehicle is no pushover; it's tough enough for dad and 4 or 5 golf buddies as well! If you're looking for quality, durability, and style under $40,000 this is your truck!

After driving a 97 Nissan Pathfinder for 5 years, I though ride quality couldn't be improved on another SUV. I was wrong. This car rides like a well mannered Cadillac. 5.3 V8 is a must. Has a nice throaty V8 rumble when you punch it. low road noise compared to my wifes new Ford Exploder which we hate. Very little cargo room when 3rd row seat isn't folded up. Fuel economy totally stinks, especially if you like to utilize the big V8 (which I do.) Turning radius is absolutely fantastic, light years better than my Pathfinder or the Exploder even though they are much smaller. I feel very safe carrying my 9 month old. I couldn't ask for a better family car!

I HAVE HAD MY 2002 TAHOE FOR 11 MONTHS, AND 11000 MILES. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND THE PERFORMANCE THAT THE CHEVY V-8 IS UNSURPASSED, BUT THE INTERIOR NEEDS SOME UPGRADING. LEATHER SEATS ARE COMFORTABLE AND APPEALING BUT WAY TOO MUCH PLASTIC IN DASHBOARD AND DOOR PANELS. PUT A IMPORT INTERIOR WITH THIS DOMESTIC EXTERIOR, AND YOU WOULD HAVE S.U.V. EUPHORIA.

Up until the blizzard I never had a chance to put the Tahoe in 4WD. I can honestly say that i went through 2 ft of snow in the DC area this past week with little effort. I even towed a smaller SUV that got stuck because he didn't have the ground clearance. The Tahoe performed exactly as I expected it to.

I had a knocking in the steering column after 12000 miles and the dealer tells me that there is a design flaw that cause the steering to make noise. The joint dries out and requires a $100 lube from the dealer which is not covered after the warranty expires. This is a great riding auto with great pick-up and amentities. Highly recommend it.

I bought my Tahoe brand new, within the first two months I had to have the radio replaced and the transmission started having problems not shifting out of 2nd gear, even at 50 mph. At about 6 months the idling arm had to be replaced. The transmission never went away and I returned it under Lemon Law. I then went bought a Silverado, that's a piece of junk too. I'm done with American cars.

This SUV is really a great car, it rides nice, and we got a great deal because of edmunds, the sticker on it was $31,995 and we got it for a final price of $25,995! Can anyone believe this? Well don't go to your local dealer with this price since this was just 1 left of ten car that were to be sold to the Miami Beach Police Department and were over ordered, sure they may not have all the extras but those things can be added. The car does however have 4X4, the 5.3 V8, Z71 Suspension and the 3.73 gears WOW. Again thanks Edmunds.com

I traded my 96 LT 4WD Tahoe for a 2002 LT 4WD. What a difference! I loved my old one, but the new generation leaves the old one way behind. Better pep on the highway, greater comfort (the old one was very comfortable), attractive interior design, better amenities inside, quiet, solid body design and structure....get my point, yet? This is an awesome truck. Once you buy one, you won't go back. My wife will only drive foreign cars, but...she seeks to make an exception in this case. She constantly tries to switch with me. The 2002 Tahoe will turn your head, and change your mind.

My wife and I were looking for a bigger Suv than the current Lexus RX 300 we had. We headed over to the Cadillac Dealer and checked out the Escalades. Now I'm not going to lie, I love this truck. But I didnt love the $900 lease payment we would have had. Leaving the dealer we drove by the Chevrolet dealer and figured we'd go check out a Tahoe. The rest is history. This SUV, in my opinion is an incredible vehicle at any price. Never mind the fact that a fully loaded Tahoe will run you about 12k less than a no option Escalade. We Put on 20 wheels, billet Grill, exhaust, and removed all the emblems...and this thing looks REALLY GOOD! Now go get one!

I have owned other SUV's, but the Tahoe is definitely delivers a lot more for the money. Overall the Tahoe has been reliable and fun to operate. The interior manufacturing quality and design is somewhat less than what I would expect from a $38,000 SUV. A few trim details have come loose and had to be repaired by the dealer. Door hinge spot-welds have come loose also requiring a trip back to the dealer. The interior could be improved without have to upgrade to the full leather package. Overall... very satisfied.

The autoride is really awful. The dealer said it would imporve stability but it makes the SUV handle like a drunken cow. It is terrible to drive in the highway and almost impossible to keep on the road. It feels like one of those old Caddilacs with Jello shocks with the tire air pressure at 6 pounds. We have a small boat and it feels like a 19 foot boat in 5 foot seas. It wiggles and wobbles and sways around where you need dramamine. Awful. Other than that and the gas mileage it is a great truck, or would be without the autoride.

Recently upgraded from my 1998 Tahoe LT to this one. Big mistake, in under 4k mi. the power-steering pump shaft broke (making my return trip from the lake the best upper body workout of my life). After 3 days waiting for a new PS pump, got it back and now I am blowing interior light and sunroof fuses every 15 minutes for no apparent reason. Transmission clunks loudly when I pull my small boat, and still having trouble with climate control system (A/C goes on for no reason, and no it was not set on auto)! If possible I will unload this albatross and buy 1999 Landcruiser with 45k Mi.

Just bought a Loaded Tahoe LS. After driving Grand Cherokees for the last 6 years, I'm impressed by the overall solidness of Jeep's GM counter-parts. Test drove both 2002 Tahoes and Yukons and also Sequoia's, just for giggles. No real discernible difference between the Tahoe and the Yukon. Much V8 pep in both, the GMC was slightly more expensive and the dealers much less willing to deal, even during July 4th week. Made a pretty good deal thanks, in part to the present $2500 factory cash. This truck is just a blast to drive. Do check these beauties out.

We've been very pleased with our Tahoe. Boiled down to Sequoia vs. Tahoe-having been a satisfied toyota owner I chose Tahoe... Tahoe LT interior has a real luxury suv personality v. Sequoia with bland camry/tundra style appointments (just compare interior lighting style), Tahoe ride seems quieter and more refined, Tahoe's leather color seemed richer looking than sequoia's muddy brown or muddy gray.. We bought a fully loaded tahoe LT after rebates for less than price of Sequoia SR5... If the people at toyota would give the $40k Sequoia a more refined interior similar to that of their $30k Highlander SUV it would have been a much harder decision!

The 5.3L is not as snappy as I thought it would be. A friend put dual exhaust on his, and gained 10+ HP plus gas milage. On a 2000 mile road trip, we averaged 19 mpg - however, if you go over 80, that turns into about 12 - 14

Prior to buying the Tahoe, I drove every competing model (Ford/Toyota/Dodge). Hands down I liked the Tahoe the best (ride, comfort, ameneties, price, etc.). So far, I love it! Everything else I looked at was over-priced for the total value I was getting in return and the Chevy was just too good compared to the others to pass up. Funny thing, I've never owned and American car/truck before and this Chevy Tahoe impresses the heck out of me every time I sit in it. Just awesome!

From the designers and engineers to the management, sales and marketing people, and the people building the Tahoe, Suburban, Escalade, Yukon and Denali, it's clear that GM is "Like a Crock." These reviews are limited to 700 words, so I can't explain all the faults. Suffice it to say, I've had enough trouble to invoke the lemon law only to find my truck was "average."

Beware. Do NOT get the Autoride option on this vehicle. I have had mine to the dealership three times because the vehicle is extremely unstable. It feels like the vehicle is in a constant crosswind and the driver has to fight to keep it on the road. My wife is afraid to drive it. Any road irregularity and it bobs, wiggles and undulates while trying to wander right or left. The autoride system is constantly trying to keep the vehicle level or adjust to the road but it ends up causing gyrations that frighten me. Instead of being relaxed after driving it I am stressed and on edge. Autoride in my opinion is unsafe and a hazard. DO NOT get the autoride

We've had our tahoe for over a year now. Ours has no 3rd row seat and the cargo area is used to transport our dogs. We should've bought the suburban and that is my advise. Just get the bigger one and get it over with, the size is less overwhelming over time and you actually get use to the size. All in all awsome vehicle and would buy another one, probably the Yukon XL, since it's a bit more attractive. A rattle in the dash is been bugging me too.

I absolutely love my 2002 LS 2wd Tahoe. I feel I got a great deal- I upgraded to the third row seat, with the lift gate and leather seats- with the 2002 rebate I paid $29,000 plus tt&l. I am very much impressed with the comfort and smooth ride. I am getting great mileage (16.5 city; 17.5 highway). I definitely recommend this vehicle!

Our Z71 takes the rugged farm we enjoy with ease, holds two 100lb. dogs with ease and after a good cleaning can hold it's own with any SUV out on the market! We are very selective in our SUV choices and the Z71 model caught our attention!

Can't get it out of my mind

I have been driving a Tahoe LT Autoride for work for the last 3 months until very recently when vehicles were no longer provided. The problem now is that I have grown so found of the vehicle I really want one. I just don't want to pay the high ticket price for a new vehicle. Should of never got in that new one, because now I think I am going to have to spring for one. Great vehicle. Served all my needs very well...safe family hauler, smooth ride, power, boat tower, looks good, fun to drive.

Great power, smooth ride and lots of space! I have also been getting good gas mileage (18-20.5 mpg). However, I am dissapointed in the interior. The fabric on the cushions of my seats was not sewn well at all. Also, after riding in a Toyota Sequoia, I realize how small and relatively uncomfortable the Tahoe back seat is. Also, despite its weight and wide tires (265/70 R16), it gets blown around in the wind. When you have a substantial side-wind, you get a lot of leaks in the door and along the floor. One more thing, the bench seat option doesn't have a good range of adjustments for the seats. Short drivers might have a hard time. I'm 6'1" and I keep the seat as high as it will go.

love my tahoe

I bought mine during the $2002 rebate and for invoice less the rebate. The only options on mine is the 285hp engine, rear liftgate, and raised letter tires. At exactly $28k plus TT&L this truck is a bargain. I'm getting right at 15mpg city (with fairly conservative driving.) It is quiet, smooth, and very well done. I had a 96 Tahoe. Almost loved it but the brakes were terrible and the design was sloppy. GM has nailed these new SUV's, and I am very pleased. If reliability proves good, I'll call it just about perfect.

Wonderful vehicle. I love the solid feel and the 5.3 Vortec is a dream in traffic gob and gobs or low end torque. The truck is solid and feels like a bank vault on wheels going down the road.

Best truck driven on the road today...

This is a 2001 model, purchased new 5/01. Dealer sales and service practices are excellent. No problems with the vehicle after 10 months. We use it on trips out of town 6 or 7 times a year. Other than that it is a daily commuter vehicle for a short drive to work. I have towed a small motorcycle trailer and it tows perfectly. We traded a '96 Yukon and this vehicle is just the next generation and more useful as the Yukon was nly a 2 door GT.

The Tahoe has really opened up our eyes to Chevrolet. As current BMW owners (2), we considered BMW and Acura. We bought the Tahoe and are pleased with our choice. Well built (so far), good looking and large enough to haul "stuff".

Great for trips. There is no such thing as too much room with our family, and the Tahoe is the perfect size. We drive into the Canadian Rockies during bad blizzards and it feels very safe and stable.

Bought the Z71 and am loving every minute of it. Traded in a 4Runner and Im not sorry I did. Love the ride, and feel very safe in the vehicle, its nice to know that SUV's dont come much bigger than yours. Huge amounts of storage, and with the Z71 there's no third seat to get in your way. Its got tons of power thanks to the 5.3L V-8, it definately would beat the 4Runner in acceleration any day.

Excellent vehicle - I tow a 5500 lb boat with ease. Very nice, fast truck. Now I am thinking a Suburban...would never have guessed I would like the truck as much as I do. Could use a 6 cd changer option.

Incredible features on the "base" model. We just bought within the past month and have been happier than expected with the 4800 engine. The 3rd row is the best available - interms of leg room and 50/50 split for storage. Have used the AWD some in snow and this works great as well.

I've only had my Tahoe a couple of weeks but I love it. It's a BIG difference as far as room and ride than the Explorer I had. I've owned everything from Ford's to Honda's and everything in between.I think I'm a GM man now. I looked at the Expedition but I'm glad I only looked.

I really love this Tahoe. I guess the ride quality is what suprised me the most. It is very smooth and just eats up the bumps and potholes. It rides much better than my Explorer. The only criticism I would have is a little bit of wind noise at highway speed that comes from the large mirrors, but that is not bad. The front seats are very comfortable and can be manipulated to fit just about anyone.

The Chevrolet Tahoe is a great. I purchased mine in July of 2001. The 4wd works great. I live in Nebraska and its very helpful. The interior is very spacious and roomy. I have a boat and will use the Tahoe to pull it. I bought the Tahoe because of its roomy inside, good looks, great 5.3L engine, and the way it drives. It drives like a car. Go and test drive one to see.

I traded in my Eddie Bauer Expedition for my Tahoe and I'm very happy I made this decision. The Tahoe rides and drives much better than the expedition. I was quite surprised how much more power the Tahoe has over the Expedition. The interior on the Tahoe is very luxurious, and the heated seats sure are nice in the winter. I've always owned Ford's, so this is my first GM purchase, but won't be last.

After extensive research on Edmunds and other sites, I went the dealership as an educated buyer. Wow, what a deal I got. Love the bigger engine, tows like your pulling nothing. Cools and heats suprisingly well, considering the size of the vehicle. Very pleased

I've had over 25 vehicles and never one like this. It's fun to walk up to your auto and see people just standing around looking at it. It drives better than the 2000 Z71 1500 1/2 ton truck, and I can't get over the look it carries.

I found a way to save some money. First ask the dealer to throw in the scotch guard for the seats. Then when they ask about the extended warrenty. Have them go talk to the manager to lower the price since the extended warranties include the scotch guard program. Saved me $400.00 and I bought the extended warrenty. I love this vehicle. Im still breaking her in so I could have a few more to say but thank you Chevy for the rebates and intrest rates! Killer truck
