I bought this truck new and the only things I dislike are; can't see behind me when parking, brakes are weak, not enough power, the back has never sealed right and the drivers side headrest has always been defective at the bottom.

HEADLIGHT FAILURE AT !!!!!!!!!!!! 50 MPH !!!!!!!!!

2002 Advalance headlight problem that no one has ever heard of! Driving down dark road switch lights from low beam to high and lights go completely off. What a surprise so I switched back to low beam and thank goodness they worked. The odd thing is the bright light indicator stays on either in low or high beam position. NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO HELP. PLEASE HELP ME IF ANYONE HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM.

Its amazing!

I bought my truck new, I now have 316K miles on my truck and I still love it, you would never know this truck has so many miles on it, it still looks and runs like new,of course we've taken good care of it, from what I understand they don't make the Avalanche anymore and I guess I know why because they just keep driving on and on with no problems.

I love this truck

Bought my Avalanche with 12K miles in 2003, it now has 167K and going strong. Considering the miles, other than routine things like, brakes, shocks, oil and tires, this truck has broken down very little. I had some front end work done, pitman arm and ball joints at about 100k, and a knock sensor at 150K. I replace the water pump at 150K because the gasket was leaking and I had to remove it to do the gasket. The original brakes lasted 100k. Still on the original alternator, radiator, exhaust etc.

If you have to own a truck this is it.

I had a 2002 and put 200k on it b4 I sold it. Never had a problem other than a plugged sock in the fuel pump from dirty fuel. never rattled, squeaked. flexed. I towed the heck out of this truck and changed oil at 10k to 12k miles. after about 200k was using 1 qt in between changes. I now have a 2007 w/ 130 and it's even better.

This has been a great truck to drive and work with. It tows an 6000 lbs boat with no issue. I can take the whole family with me on a Ski trip or outing without having to pack the luggage, skis, hockey, baseball, and soccer equipment on top of the kids or leave them in the bed for the elements to have their way with. I use the truck to get back and forth to my construction job and find the side boxes very useful for my smaller tools and the bed is great for all the heavy equipment, add to that the fact that you can lock everything up and secure it for the night all together with the alarm on is great. I do have a vibration in my back end that no mechanics seam to be able to find or explain.

This truck has it all! It looks great and the ride is even better! The inside of the vehicle is well built and everything is within easy reach. Had only one problem with a CV joint but its a 7 year old truck stuff will break eventually. And the best part is I still get 16-18 miles a gallon with this giant!

This vehicle although very fun to drive and extremely versatile, is one to keep in the garage until needed for work or play. Not the best communting vehicle because of the mileage. But all things being said this is a really fun truck to have if you have a family.

This is the first vehicle I have ever owned that it would truly hurt to give up. I bought it new 184000 miles ago and its been great, Outside of normal maintaince, I had the rear locking differential replaced at 140000 miles. The versatility of the midgate makes it so I can haul 4 x 8 drywall with 12' long 2 by 4's on top of them, sticking between the front seats, all out of the weather. Its great for hauling the grocerys, moving a kid to college or taking 5 full sized adults on a trip. Towing is ok, ride and comfort is better than any car or minivan that I ever owned.

Would get another one

This is a great truck. I've carried a Harley in the back and pulled a 10K travel trailer through the mountains (not the same time). The plus side of the setup is your friends don't look at it as a truck when they move even though it has all the ability. The only gripe is the 8.1L engines oil consumption is high. One qt in 3K miles when new, three qts in 3K now. Chevy claimed in 2002 one qt in 100 miles was considered high anything less is acceptable. Big engine is great for towing, stomp on the pedal and she jumps even at 70mph. Down side is MPG 11 around town 14 on the highway at 75mph. I would replace with same truck smaller V8 but right now I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.

My '02 Z66 is hands down the best vehicle I have ever owned. Room for kids, lumber, landscaping stuff. It stands out in the crowd with great lines and top shelf reliability. I have never had to put this vehicle in the shop! It's got 106k miles on it and I fully intend to drive it until it just won't go another mile. No, I will replace what ever breaks and give it to my soon to be 16 yr old. I love this truck.

I bought it new & now have 74,000 miles. I love this truck & would buy another. The major mechanicals; engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, etc., no problems, however, the rear axle bearings had to be replaced at one point, which is the only problem that I have had with the truck. Very reliable & can always count on it. Very comfortable & smooth for a truck. Very useful, like the midgate & the rubber lined bed.

The 3/4 ton with the big block is the only way to tow my heavy travel trailer across country. Much better towing with the 373 rear and Allision tranny than a small block 5.3 screaming with a 410 rear. Very flexible easily loading almost 30 sheets 1/2 drywall and closing the gate. Mileage is better with this 8.1 liter than my old 454. About 14-15 not towing and 11 with a 7000 pound trailer. I don't have to move over for the tractor trailers like you do with the small block. It is getting time to look at another Avalanche but I won't buy one with a small block. I love the truck but do not want a fancy toy truck with a 5.3 liter.

I enjoy my Avalanche. I like the versitility and the only 2 things I'd change are the 3 slide panel leak and are not covered under any warranty although the sales people say they are. And the tail gate I'd make one that's double doored opens right and left. The drop gate is so traditional in trucks. Let's expand Chevy's horizons.

I drive this truck about 80 miles/day. I love driving this truck. I used to drive my motorcycle to/from work. It is more fun to drive my truck. I now have 120,000 miles and it has only been in the shop once. The transmission oil pump exploded destroying the transmission at 91,160 miles, 1,160 miles off of my extended warranty.

I love my truck. It's ultra comfortable, even for several people on long rides (I drove two other adults and my two young sons in car seats on a 9 hour trip and no one complained.) I have the Z71 package, but it still rides much smoother than a truck, and because it sits a little lower I prefer it to the ride of my wife's Tahoe. I love the versatility of this truck. I can pack in my whole family and go buy anything I need at the Home Depot, or haul a load of wood or whatever I want. I love the look of the Avalanche, wonderfully odd styling stands out from the crowd. Haven't had any mechanical problems whatsoever with the truck. Interior is "no frils" but very functional.

Great versatility for a full size truck. I absolutely am getting a newer Avalanche for my next vehicle. Don't believe what you read, this truck is absolutely great.

My Avalanche has proven to be everything that I expected. All of the cargo space is very useful, we can fit our 3 kids in back easily, it gives a very smooth ride, and the gas mileage is better than I had expected (16-17 religiously). The back seat is roomy enough for 3 adults to sit in.

I purchased this truck new and it has been very good. The fuel economy on the highway is about 19mpg. The truck has run flawlesly since day one. If I had to find one fault it is that the pistons are slightly noisy when cold for 20 or so seconds, but the engine runs so well otherwise it is easy to ignore that small shortcoming

I bought my Avalanche used. It is a 1500 Z-71 with 93K miles every option imaginable. I love the way it drives and is really good in snow and ice. The problems I am experiencing is the water pump, steering gear box, and Bilstein shocks have all just gone out at the same time!!! Talk about dumping some money into it all at once. Another problem is that when you drive the truck down the interstate and the wind is blowing, and it does not have to be blowing hard, you get blown all over the interstate. It is gets so bad that I actually take the long way to work using backroads when it gets windy. When I accelerate hard, I get a metalic sound coming from the engine and Chevy can't diagnose it.

I've never had a problem.

I was very hesitant to buy this "hybrid" SUV/Pickup. I need a truck, but not all the time. The dealer made a great offer. I am very, very pleased with the Avalanche's performance and reliability. There are only two things I can nitpick about ... the fuel economy (which is the same for all pickups) and the big turning radius. I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Cold days the seat warmers are GREAT! I love my burnt orange color and enjoy all the diversities in accomadates all my families different interests! The ONLY problem I have is I cannot get my 2 kayaks up onthe roof with the standard tie downs! My old van I could. I will shortly be purchase racks for my truck and that will solve that. I anxiously await the falling of the gas prices!! I LOVE my Avalanche! Sooo comfortable!

I've pulled all kinds of loads, travel trailers, cargo trailers, and car haulers with combined loads up to 19700 lbs and it has handled them with ease. My wife likes to drive it as it drives like a sub. It is also great in being able to carry six passengers and folds down real quickly to haul 25 sheets of plywood all enclosed. The tonneau cover storage bag is a joke. I had a stainless ladder rack built and built storage into it for the covers. I get about 11 mpg pulling trailers and up to 16 on the freeway empty. Had two troubles, a pressure switch had to be changed and the r. rear axle flange had to be tightened back up three times. If it was destroyed, I would buy another today.

I had a 95 Nissan Pathfinder before, and it was ok, but this is the most comfortable ride ever. It was worth every penny. Maintainance is a little pricey, but so is everything for the new vehicles. Chevy warranties are pretty good too.

Bought this vehicle because my wife loved it, I did not like the way it looked and the fact it did not have a real full size bed. I now love it; the Z71 package is a must I can haul all my fire wood, take my wife and kids camping while towing the boat do some off roading and take it surf fishing easily.. No problems to speak of, GM hit a home run with the Avalanche. My buddies Nissan Titan feels about half as strong as my Avalanche and he has been through 2 rears and 5 long term visits to the dealer for service , Considering a Titan? buy the Avalanche.

Great vehicle. The longer I have it, the more I like it. No matter where I am or what I am doing, I can always pick up more people or cargo. It is very flexible to meet whatever demands you put onto it. The only downside it has is the fuel economy, but it is a big truck. The four wheel drive works great and it is very reliable. It rides very well, more like a luxury vehicle than a truck.

I've had my Avalanche for a year now. Great ride and comfort. Buttons for most things are fairly easy to find. Better ride than my old Tahoe was, and I put 175K on that one. 4WD works great in the mud and the sand. Tows like it doesn't have anything hooked on behind it. Great acceleration, and better brakes than my old Tahoe as well. Gas mileage is about what one could expect. I'm averaging about 17-18 MPG on the highway and less in town. Large fuel tank is a definite plus. Thinking of trading for a newer one, just to get a different color and some other options. Sound system is very nice.

I love my Avalance. I didn't think I'd like it at first, but it rides smoother than any other truck I know and having a weather-proof bed is great. I've pulled trailers and boats across country with no problem and it hasn't failed me yet. I think it is the most practical truck available, mostly because of the water-proof bed. The four wheel drive works great too, I've done some serious off- roading and haven't been stuck in a place I couldn't get out of with a little work.

Owned since new. Awesome power and it manhandle's my 7,500 pound travel trailer. Smooth riding for a 3/4 ton truck and sticks to the road like glue. Smooth shifting tranny, not the clunky type in some of the other GM products. This BLOWS away Fords and Doge Ram . Toyota or the rest of Toy trucks need not apply for the job. Easily swallows and carries 30 sheets of half inch drywall 4x8. Then switchs back to a family carrier. Most dependable set of wheels ever. I would buy another in a heartbeat but not with the wimp like 5.3 liter engine. Even with the 4:10 rear it won't tow well on the long hills.

About the time GM was talking about a Multi-Function vehicle, I told my wife what I would want to see. The Avalanche is close to my concept. I upgraded from my 95 extended cab 2WD Silverado to the Avalance Z71 Red and have not been disappointed one bit. Mileage is slightly better than my 95 which I am pleased with. I have used it in all the different configurations you can have and this vehicle has exceeded all my expectations. My wife and MOther-in-law both love the ride it gives, that says a lot as to the ride quality.

Beautiful truck! I get lots and lots of positive comments everywhere I go. " Is it an SUV or a Truck?, How does it change? I work as a trainer and consultant covering several states. It has a comfortable ride similar to my suburban with better mileage 18.5 + on the road. Can get up and go too! Never had to do anything to it except, buy gas, change the oil and replace a flat tire. Very versital, fun to drive. Only complaint I have is that the spare tire is a 16" and the rest of the tires are 17". Go figure! Recommend Highly!

I love most things about the AV but the water leaks in the bed and the air leaks on the front passenger side (brutal during a cold winter) really detract. Unfortunately, local dealership here is dishonest so getting things fixed is an issue.

45 yrs. OF OWNING MOST OF THE TYPE OF CARS AND TRUCKS THAT I LIKED AND COULD AFFORD, THE AVALANCHE IS THE BEST OF THE BEST. BEFORE I BOUGHT THE AVALANCHE I HAD A FORD F-150 4-WD EXT. CAB AND I LOVED THAT TRUCK VERY MUCH, TOO, BUT THE AVALANCHE FILLED A PLACE IN MY HEART THAT NO OTHER TRUCK COULD HAVE DONE. IT'S THE BEST OF TWO WORLDS, IT'S A TRUCK WHEN I NEED IT TO BE AND IT'S AN SUV WHEN I WANT IT TO BE AND WITH ALL OF THE COMFORT OF A FINE LUXURY CAR. THE RIDE IS OUTSTANDING AND ROOMINESS IS GREAT FOR FAMILY AND HAS PLENTY OF STORAGE CAP. I WOULDN'T HESITATE TO BUY ANOTHER ONE.

Overall this is a very good vehicle. I have 71K miles on this vehicle and have had no major problems. The tailgate still has a tendency to pop open, even after the dealer "fixed" it. The gas mileage is not that great, but what I would expect for a 4X4. I do like the midgate. In the winter I had the midgate down to utilize the full length bed, (I carry a lot of gear) and had no problems with the interior getting cold (I live in PA) and I do not have the heated seats.

Wears poorly with time.

AV is a good idea for those looking for room, ride and the benefits of a truck. Unfortunately, like most GM products, this truck doesn't age well. After two years and 36k, problems are starting to pop up on a regular basis. The truck is babied and serviced regularly, but exhaust baffles just went, steering coupler seized up, ABS sensor died etc. The good deals on new Avalanches mean huge depreciation for used units. Buyer beware, buy one to run to the grouond, not for just 3 or 4 years or epect to take a huge hit. Good for a few years or low mileage users, but I fear how long this truck will hold up.

I had to have the three truck bed top liners replaced because they leaked when I had the truck washed or when it rained. I read on the net that the early builts had a problem because they didn't seal everything as they should have when they built them...have no idea if that is true. I do know that GM took control after I called them because I couldn't get any satisfaction from the dealer I bought it from. The other dealer took action to try and resolve the leak problem. The original dealer just said that they never said the truck bed was "watertight", just water resistant....Dahhhhh I hope the problem is solved. The new panals are due in nexxt week.

I have the luxury of driving nearly every model of truck by the three major American truck makers where I work. Based on my experience with work trucks I decided to buy a Chevrolet or Dodge. Then I decided to buy an Avalanche after test driving some. Chevrolet can't be beat for on road driving and overall family features. Innovative engineering makes this a remarkable truck - my family can use it for anything.

For those of you who are complaining about gas mileage please listen up. The first 36,000 were with all stock parts. Now that the original warranty is up I have added a flowmaster exhaust kit with dual cat tips and a K&N Fuel injection performance kit which increase my gas mileage, 3 to 4 mpg. Remember to keep your feul injection system clean ( every 15,000 or so for the avalanche ) Like with any vehicle keep up on your maintenance and your vehicle will work better for you. I'm happy I chose the 2002 Z71 Avalache over the suburban and the cadillac suv.

All though the 2002 Avalanche is an innovative design it is poorly designed from stem to stern. Specifically, head lamps that hold water/condensation,engine air vents that collect all sorts of debris, plastic side panels that will probably cause corrosion problems in thefuture, combo leather and cloth seats that are absolutely uncmfortable after 30to 45min of driving, a fold down bed extension system that leaks and a covered bed design that the chevy dealer says is water resistant, ie it leaks, yup you guessed it by luggage and golf clubs have gotten wet more than once. To sum it up Dont buy the avalanche, built like a rock and worth about as much!

What more can I say that the Av is everything I'm looking for in a truck. Hauling stuff, kids, camping friendly, etc. At first, I thought it was ugly until it grew on me. It could use some improvement in performance that the acceleration felt flat from stop unless you stomp on it, a little play in the steering feedback, and brakes just doesnt grab well.

What to say... When I forst saw the previews in '99 I was impressed. Now that I'm an owner, I'm even more impressed. Vary little body role, great get up and go, I get anywhere from 18-21 MPG pretty regularly. Though I have to say I have made some modifications. Not only is it a big vehical it drives like one. Parking is no problem. I'm used to larger trucks. the only area I have a problem with is being able to see out the rear end. It has its challenges. Overall, best bang for the buck. Most versitle truck I have ever owned and I've owned many.

I'VE TOWED MY TRAVEL TRAILER ON 2 LONG TRIPS INCLUDING YELLOW STONE PARK WITH MY AVALANCE, THE RIDE WAS VERY COMFORTABLE. MY AVALANCHE HAS ONLY BEEN TO THE DEALER ONE TIME FOR A SHOCK REPLACEMENT. BY FAR THE BEST VEHICLE I'VE OWNED AND WILL TRADE FOR ANOTHER AVALANCHE EVENTUALLY. THE GAS MILEAGE IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS MY SUBARU OUTBACK I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD. I bought this vehicle because of its versatility. I have an 8' truck bed when I need it, or seating for five. Rarely do I ever need both, so this is the perfect truck for our family. We use this for camping, boating, and everything else. Now that our firstborn has arrived, my wife loves the security she feels driving it in the city. Everywhere we go (grocery shopping, camping, etc.) people come up and ask me about this truck. You can't wipe the grin off of my face. I've probably given the local Chevy dealers 10 easy sales this year by simply telling people about my Avalanche. GM should be giving me a referral bonus.

I picked up my Avalanche about two weeks ago and I love it. My wife and kids also love it and want to use it as the family vehicle now. My wife threatened to take the Avalanche for herself and leave me with our '02 Ford Escape. For comfort, power, versitality and ride I'd have to say that this is the best vehicle I've ever driven. Also, this thing is as loaded as a Cadillac! This is the first vehicle that I've ever owned that impressed me enough to want to get another one when this one is ready for pasture.

She might look good be it doesn't cut it. Its not a rock its a pebble. GM should take this toy and work it on the farm and on gravel roads before they talk. Its a sad day when you have to go and get a tractor to pull it. back end to light, poor electronics, poor design over all, they sould go back to the board on this one, water leaks, poor steering, poor warranty work, three weeks the repair shop was enough to leave it there period. GM ought to be paying you to advertize. that's the only change.

I've had my 2002 Avlanche Z71 for 2 months. It's smoother and produces less noise on the highway than my girlfriends Acura MDX. That's very impressive considering the Avalanche Z71 comes with 17" GoodYear Wrangler tires. I really enjoy visiting my parents on their farm so I can do a some off roading. This truck can go almost anywhere.

It's build quality, utilitarian and comfort characteristics are ideal for someone who need's carry the family on road- trips, haul lumber/"stuff" and 4-wheel drive in the back woods on occasion. I was in the market for a new pickup and knew I would have to also buy a canopy to protect the lumber I buy and the furniture I make. I also wanted to be able to provide for more than two passengers. The Avalanche was the answer! It has fulfilled all my needs. My wife, a bit dubious at first, prefers to travel in this vehicle over her new Maxima and tells everyone she cannot believe the comfort driving/riding in the Avalanche.

Safest truck you can drive! Gas mileage is the only drawback (I get about 13-14 MPG), but utility more than makes up for poor mileage. Tall vehicle. Strongly recommend step up bar. Conversion from SUV to truck is very easy. Ride is smooth whether on the road or rough terrain. 285HP engine has plenty of get up & go. Surprisingly good turning radius. Ingenious drainage system ensures water doesn't leak into the cockpit, even from the folding midgate. Took a while to get accustomed to the dimensions. A vehicle I liked when I bought it, & love more every time I get behind the wheel. Best purchase I've ever made & most fun I've ever had driving a vehicle.

Pulling a mid-size car on a full trailer was no problem (60% of max) with this vehicle. Straight and true on the windy highway and through twisty back roads. This truck err uh... The Chevrolet Avalanche is simply the best truck that our family has ever owned. After owning 7 Chevy 1500 pickups in the past 20 years, I am no stranger to the abilities of the full bed and limited cab room. But with the introduction of the Avalanche, it has truly showed the innovation of the typical pickup. This truck is a true winner with comfort for 5 (large) people, room for an ATV, fridge, groceries, plywood, (just about anything you would put in a normal pickup). The suspension is smooth and supple while not relaxing on the Offroading scene.

This truck is great, period. If you're not sure if you might like it, go drive a club cab truck with an itty bitty bed and cramped rear seats, or a mini van and then go look at one of these. No doubt if you can afford it, you'll buy it. This truck has it all. Roomy, comfortable, and an 8' bed! Driving it with my ripped jeans on, no shirt, and a load of building materials I feel like a rough N tough carpenter. Put on my tie and head to work, I feel like I'm driving in a caddy. I have never had a car or truck I have enjoyed so much, REALLY!

If I were to design a vehicle, this would probably be it. Lots of room, good performance, quiet, and very versatile. There is enough traction control for almost any circumstance (lock-up rear end, auto 4-wheel, 4- wheel hi and lo, as well of course, 2- wheel drive). We had a customized van for family use and I had a Concorde but at times could have used a pick-up. The Avalanche now takes the place of the van and the Concorde and gives me the truck I occasionally need.

I had a GMC 1500 extended cab for almost ten years and my kids were just getting too big for the back seat. I needed more room and was considering a crew cab pick up and I'm really glad I chose the Avalanche. The versatility cannot be compared to anything on the market. I had some concerns about the bed being water tight. I checked it at the dealer after they washed it, hosed it down at home and have been through a few rain storms and the bed stays dry as a bone. It rides like a Caddy and while I can't say it's fun to drive, it is fun to see how many heads turn on the road.

90% of the time I don't need an 8' bed. But those times that I do it's great. The only problem I've had was about every 20th start I would get smoke out of the exhaust. Dealer found a SB that addressed the problem, replaced the PCV valve and BAAM, no more problem. In spite of what some reviews say about the "pain" of changing from SUV to 8' bed, it really is easy and doesn't take much time at all.

Up to this point the Avalanche has been a unique fun experience. I traded in a Ford Expedition and dont regret it. The extra acceleration and smoother than expected ride of my new chevy is the highlight of my switch. I added 22 inch wheels and the truck really looks sharp and aggressive with a menacing look and stance. The Avalanche makes you feel secure and in control on the busy highways of the big congested city.

At first site I thought this was the ugliest truck I had ever seen. My son talked me into test driving one. I have been in Love ever since. It rides like a dream and there is enough interior space to make every one comfortable. The Dog even loves it. I have taken it apart for everyone I know and even perfect strangers at a Ford dealership. For the folks that have had trouble with leakage from the back window or gasket, get that truck back to your dealer now! A badly manufactured window that cracked is the culpurate. They replaced the padding and carpet, the window and gasket after torrential rains in our area leaked into the cab of the truck.

Visibility needs to be learned in this vehicle, directly behind is limited due to height of tailgate and bedcover. Some kind of rear mirror would be great. Vehicle is comfortable to travel in and drive. Even works as a pickup. The change is easy for transporting unexpected purchases .

Vehicle's first engine began to smoke heavily during start up the first week we owned it. GM said it was defective PCV. After that didn't fix it, they finally replaced the motor. The dealer's quality on this engine swap was terrible. My test drive off the dealer repai lot revealed a heavy knocking sound from the passenger side of new engine. GM had to replace engine again and have aera rep supervise the installation. I doubt that Toyota or Honda would have had to replace the motor twice!

The Z71 4X4 Avalanche is the best of both worlds with lots of toys! It's got the luxury and space of a loaded SUV with the hauling capacity of a full size pickup. I keep common tools (cordless drill/flashlight set, screwdrivers, etc) in one side of the locking compartments in the side of the bed and use the other side as a cooler for picnicing/camping or whatever.

This is my second Avalanche, the first was replaced by the dealership within the first week due to electrical problems. They volunteered to replace it! I love this truck! This is the Z66 version. Road trips with the cruise on = 20 mpg, not bad for a brick. City = 11 mpg. I have had no problems with this Avalanche, it's versatile, takes about a minute to change it, unless you remove the hard cover. I have driven it in heavy downpours and have never had any leakage. All I can say, even though it took 2, Chevrolet got it right with the Avalanche, there is nothing else like it.

First thing I did was to dismantle all of the "removeables" and Armor-All all of the seals and weatherstripping. I have never seen so may seals in all my life but taken care of, they should last. Just a maintenance headache. Watch the rear window install closely, as if you are off just a little, it will not seal correctly.

I have been a suburban buyer for years. I went to the dealership that I always deal with. Drove the new suburban and was ready to purchase. For the heck of it my bud who I deal with all the time ask me to test drive the Avalanche. I was sold once I got into it. Had all the comfort, power, and drove better than the burb. The next day I returned to purchased the Avalanche after driving them both again. Trust me the looks will grow on you.We have had some very strong storms this spring in MO no leaks. If your a burb user like I was. You use the back half more to haul cargo than passengers. Need to look at the Avalanche.

The water seems to leak in from the panels covering the bed and behind the mid-gate. At some point the water in the bed overflows into the cab under the mid-gate soaking the carpet in the rear of the truck. This happened on the sixth day I had the truck. I took it back to the dealership and they told me they would try to fix it under the warranty but it was pretty much my problem. I've called everybody I could think of to complain but with no results. I've taken the truck into two different service centers 3 times for a total of 19 days and it still leaks.

My Av has been great, I love to drive it because it is so comfortable. The 5.3L motor is great, and is fuel efficient for the size and weight of this vehicle. If 20mpg is not to your liking, get a 4cyl. S-10 or Tacoma. I have no engine knock that some people experience with GM engines. I also got a great deal for mine, right now is the time to scoop one up if you want one. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a fullsize truck who does not use it for work. If you need it for work, get a Silverado. The perfect truck for a family. P.S. Guys, your wives will love it too!

When parking in public, leave time to answer onlookers questions and enthusiastic comments. It truely does turn heads. Not since I drove my '67 Shelby have I noticed this much attention. I'm in my 50's but the teens all want a turn at the wheel. And my mother also commented on the ride comfort in the back seat. (as good or better than the full sized Oldsmobile that I traded in). The appeal seems to span generations and genders. As a downer, my tailgate also fell open in the locked position.

I have the 2002 Pewter Z-66, 5.3 engine. I jsut came back from a drive from New Mexico to Florida, the round trip logged nearly 4000 miles. It was the most enjoyable long drive I have had in years. My wife and I were able to knock down 1100 miles the first day. The roomy interior allowed for one us sleep comfortably while the other drove. Gas milage avgerage was 17.6 we stayed withing 5mph of the speed limit. We also had very strong cross/head winds. The Avalanche was very stable and comfortable in those conditions. Ray

I researched this vehicle for over a month and decided it would fit the bill for what I wanted. It replaces my 93 SSEi and the last truck I had owned was a 85 Blazer. I needed a truck, a car my elderly folks could ride in (and get in and out of), and something reliable to get me to work in Iowa. This truck meets all those requirements and then some.

I agree with the guy who thinks the price should be raised so as to maintain an "air" of exclusivity. This is the best vehicle I've ever owned, period. For some reason, I got her for $9850 below sticker. I guess Chevy is trying to put every other truck manufacturer out of business. I got the Z-71, leather, sunroof combination and it turns heads everyday inside and out! She can handle off-roading too. The Z-71 package is a steal. Make sure to add the 4:10's. GM can finally say it again: "MARK OF EXCELLENCE!"

I love my new Avalanche. It serves several special purposes for me personally. First, I wanted an SUV type of vehicle, with 4 doors, that would comfortably tranport passengers. But I have a farm, dogs, horses, etc., and needed a truck that could have bed to haul things in, like hay and feed. We also camp, and wanted a comfortable vehicle to travel the highways and mountain roads, but be able to throw camp fire smelly tents and clothes and muddy items in the back. We found the perfect vehicle! The combination of SUV and Pickup is great.

I have owned this vehicle since November of 2001. All i can say is this truck is fantastic. They have opened so many doors to the idea of having a truck. Its amazingly more pratical then an average truck, its powerful, and its so unique. Every pickup truck looks like every other pickup truck, apart from the grille. But the Avalanche has given a completely new look to a pickup truck. One that i find to be agressive (which in my opinion is AWESOME!) I have had no problems with it, and love it 100%. I would recommend this truck to anyone.

In response to a March 2002 review, yes, my tailgate has opened on its own several times. The trick is to close it firmly & try to open before you move. If its tight, it will stay closed. If not, it will sound like you ran over something when it drops opens! I had a problem with water leaks in the 3-piece bed cover. The seals did not appear to be attached well & water sometimes poured in. Per the dealer, the seals are not factory installed, but are installed at some later time. To correct, the dealer first tried to reseat the seals. This wasn't a complete fix, so they borrowed a cover off another truck & I've had no problems since.

Finally, automakers took heed to consumers. No more borrowing hubby's F150. Went from a Celica to the Avi & eased my road rage. 13K miles & we're still happy. A few quirks that need to mentioned. Midgate gasket can leak if not installed correctly. Leaking only visible when back seats down, check for deformities. (Not covered by warranty, but dealer should work with you soon after purchase.) Side exterior body moulding held on by expanded, plastic clips & adhesive. Watch for loosening (Body moulding only covered 12K miles). Unreliable tailgate latch. Gate falls while driving after locking & pulling the handle. Even with the quirks, probably the best vehicle I have driven & owned.

The Avalanche is truly a masterpiece. I drove with 75 mph on the Interstate through a snow storm with snow drifts and ice, etc. and this baby didn't slip once and it was just a dream to be the King of the Road. It is spacious inside and it drives like a big luxury cruiser. The styling is just awesome--it turns heads everywhere, literally. If you are looking for a great truck without the rough ride, this is the one for you. I have driven 4x4 trucks all of my adult life and I can honestly say I will never own one again. The Avalanche rides better than my wife's Xterra (by a large margin) but still gives you the feel of driving a truck. When they first came out I thought they looked awful, but the exterior has grown on me. Anyone who doesn't like the Avalanche obviously has never driven one.

We switched from toyota 4-runners and bought an Avalanche as opposed to a toyota sequoia. We have had the vehicle for 6 months and it has been flawless so far. My only complaints about the design are that the storage compartments in the fenders are not dustproof and the space over the wheel wells on the fenders are not protected from other people opening the car doors and smashing them into the side of the Avalanches fender.

I was an unlikely convert to Chevy. Having been a Toyota and Honda owner in the past, I have come to appreciate reliability. However, I test drove the Avalanche and fell in love with it, and bought one. But I have a concern: is it a faulty build or design? On two occassions while driving my Avi, the cargo bed door has open by itself. On one accasion, I actually had it locked with the key. Has any othe rperson experienced this, or is something wrong with Avalanche?
