Original owner of this great auto. Always serviced. Always garaged. Has new AAA battery. Full leather seats in interior. Always reliable ; just time for a new car for me! Upkeep has been very inexpensive. Somewhat reluctant to part with this good car but time to look for a new Camry for the next fifteen years!

My Toyota Camry is 15 years old, I'm the second owner. I can only say good things about this car, the engine is so quiet you can hardly hear it. If you maintain a vehicle it certainly will pay off.

Best car I ever owned

Bought used from the dealer with 36,000 miles on it. Just turned 340,000 miles. The only maintenance done since I bought it was oil/filter change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, timing belt and water pump every 100,000 miles, radiator replaced at 337,000 miles, oil seals at 240,000 miles, one battery and two sets of sparkplugs/wires replacement, and driver side window motor. I get 28 mpg in the city and 32+ mpg on the highway. I've driven cross country several times, off road in the woods, and in all weather and never had a problem. Haven't touched the transmission at all and no problems. Great car all around.

It won't die.

Bought my LE V6 in 2005 with 58k miles on it. It has 143k miles now. I secretly wish it would die so I can buy another more exciting car, because this car is utterly boring to drive. But it's refusing to do so because it is so danm reliable. It has never broken down and found dead on the side of the road. The only parts that have been replaced were brakes, timing belt and water pump at 100k miles, spark plugs every couple years or so, and the door handle on the driver side that unexpectedly broke off a couple winters ago. The windows on the driver's side is beginning to go bad now. It can go up and down, but it's loose. This car would probably run for another 100k miles. The engine is still very quiet and clean, not even an oil leak. I had considered replacing it with a 3-series BMW, they are really fun to drive, but decided against the idea given the reputation of costly and frequencies of repairs of BMW. Cost of maintenance for the Camry has been low. During the 10 years that I've owned it, besides oil changes and tires, total cost of maintenance was about $1k or so.

Great for value and year!

My Camry is a 2001, and it feels like it could be a 2015. The interior is very, very quiet and the only noises coming into the cab are bumps on the road. Toyota did very well on their interior quality too! There is minimal wear on the front seats, even less on the rear, no dash cracks, no carpet rips. For a 14 year old car you get a lot of value, especially on a fully loaded xle.

Has been in the family since 2001

First off, this car is a steal. The amount a person saves in gas, maintenance and upkeep for this car is through the roof. Anyone who is on a budget will be pleased to know that the Camry saves ALOT of money in the long run. Parts, labor are relatively cheap compared to other cars. So, I recently got my license a few months back and this is the car I got. It has been with us since I was 3, so since 2001 and I am really happy to drive it. There has been only one major repair done, the sunroof, but other than that the car has lasted like a tank through rain, snow, cold, heat. I get about 28-30mpg which is great for a 14 year old car. It is also comfortable and easy to drive. Would recommend.

What more could I ask for?

My mother-in-law bought this car as a dealer demonstrator back in 2001. My wife bought it from her in 2009 and I've been driving it since 2010. This car is my daily commuter now with just over 120,000 miles on it. It's quiet, smooth ride, comfortable interior and spartan yet efficient control layout is just lovely. Sure, it's no sports car, but there's something to be said about a car like this. The gas mileage is decent- I'm averaging 24.4 MPG, with 31.9 MPG being my best tank of all-highway miles.

AWESOME CAR!

I love, love, love this car! It's my first car that I just bought last October for a great price of $3000. It has over 200,000 miles on it and is still going strong! It is so smooth to drive, I feel like I'm just gliding down the road. I was looking dot something reliable, small, and good gas mileage, I got it all with my Camry! My dad has driven it across the state of Kentucky multiple times without a problem. I don't ever want to get rid of this car. I didn't want something that looked too "old lady like", which this car is not. It's stylish enough for me and very comfortable to go long distances in. I would trust it to take me anywhere.

This car has been as reliable as everyone says Toyotas are. Now at 214,000 miles. Maintenance includes: 5k mile oil changes. A tranny flush and timing belt change every 80k or so. The only items I've had to replace other than maintenance was the interior clock (replaced for free by toyota) and the inner tie rods up front. Very solid and high quality.

At 180,000 miles, still a Fantastic Car

My Dad bought it in 2003 from a dealership where it was a rental, about 4 years ago he bought a 2009 Camry and let me have the 01 for my first car. I've been driving it daily since I was 16 and have never had a bad day with it. It's quiet, responsive, and when you want power from the engine it will give it to you. It's easy to fix things yourself on, such as oil changes, brakes, even opening up the intake and cleaning the butterfly valve was pretty simple. The Stereo is amazing quality and similar to what you'd find in some luxury cars today. This car has good handling in the snow especially in 2nd gear. Overall it's a perfect first car, or perfect budget car. I've grown to love it

I financed this car with my Mom in early April, it was my second car. One morning after I picked up my friend for school, I was smashed/tBoned by a 2012 Yukon that was going 70 and ran a red light, at a 45 mph zone, my car was sent flying into another car. This car was TOTALED. No roof, no doors, blown up tires, and no seats. I WALKED away with a scratched up face from hitting my window on impact, but I had NO broken bones, my best friend had 7, and is WALKING with a broken pelvis/hip. Doctors/Witnesses said they have no idea how we survived this accident, if it wasnt for this camry, we would have been dead, Thank you Toyota, You SAVE lives. Get this car for your kid parents its a lifesavef

I purchased my 2001 Toyota Camry LE 4 cyl. in 2003 with 27000 miles on the odometer. I have driven this car for 9 years without a major repair and only done maintenence, brakes, timing belt and tuneups. The odometer now reads 171000 miles and still going strong. It still has the original exhaust. i find the seats a little uncomfortable and hard but othere than that I would give this car a 10!

Bought car as rebuilt with 450 miles on odometer. Rear had repaired damage and the engine compartment clean. Changed Oil & Filter every 3000 with Castrol 10-30W. AUTO Transmission fluid changed every 22-25K miles. Bosch 4+4 plugs every 20K Miles. Air FILTER element every 20K miles. Radiator flush every 2 years and new fluid. At 199,400 miles changed out catalytic converter and two sensors. Timing belt and water pump changed only twice at 98K miles intervals. MPG around 25 city 29 hwy on regular gas. ride is average and does not handle well in snow or ice unless you have Bridgestone Blizzards tires or equivalent. Only problem is brake rotors tend to warp on hard braking. r

Got this 2001 V6 Gallery Edition Camry as a gift from an aging relative. Got it in 2009 with only 20,000 miles. Edmunds should have mentioned the Gallery Edition. Perfect condition. Excellent JBL! sound, solid V6 power. Bulletproof reliability like all Toyotas. I do all the scheduled maintenance. Car is very easy to drive, but not particularly fun. But, what do you expect, it's a Camry. It's like the AK-47 of cars, everyone has one and it never lets you down!

Bought this car new in April 01. I have only 46,000 on it but am amazed that nothing has gone wrong with this car in 9 years. Just basic maintenance and 1 new set of tires. I just had the state inspection done and I was waiting for a large bill. I figured after 9 years I was due for some repairs even though it still drives like the day I got it. They told me it didn't need a thing. Would recommend these cars to everybody. I could not imagine a quieter smoother ride.

Car had 98000 miles on it. and now I have 155000 on it and I have no problems at all, great drive, smooth, no major repairs, just oil change. Great gas millage. New Camry have some issues, but they'll fix it and come up more reliable.

I purchased this vehicle in 2002. It has been extremely reliable. My Camry currently has 107000 miles on it and all I have ever done to it mechanically is have the oil changed and the battery replaced. It gets excellent gas mileage (28 MPG/HWY). I have one child and the backseat is plenty roomy/comfortable for her. My Camry LE is a Gallery edition so it has several extras that make it look nicer/sportier than the traditional Camry.

The wife bought this in 2002 with 28000 on it. Well I am a Mercedes/BMW man. So in 2002 I drive this and I am saying, while nice quiet ride no engine noise great power. Soon I'm trying to get new tires and trying to match her dang Camry ride! She gets all service for next to nothing. Never a prob with this Camry. Last year 2008 I'm looking at 2009 BMW or Mercedes, test drives were comparing to Camry ride. Camry wins no doubt. So smooth I'm falling asleep. So she wins I'm getting her a new 2010 XLE v6. Only V6 by the way. My new car is her old 2001 Camry with 114000 on it. Sweet as ever and quiet as ever. Sweet ride.

I needed a car to get me around, also it needed to get good gas mileage. My Toyota Camry fits the bill. It has a nice, firm ride. Build quality is exceptional. The ac blows nice and cold quickly, an important quality living in the desert. The v6 is a rocket motor that will get you a ticket if your not careful. All in all, a car that will be with me for a long time.

I love my Camry. I have a 01 CE and the only complaint I have is the design is boring, but my car is reliable. I've put around 61k miles on it since I bought it in 06 and at a little under 130k it's still going strong. Replaced charcoal canister a few months after purchase, very minor. Outside of oil changes, brake changes and new tires and alignment I've had absolutely no problems. Timing belt is due (probably overdue) to be replaced. I love my car and I'm going to ride her until the wheels fall off. I'm actually in the market for a new vehicle and because of my wonderful experience with "Deja" more than likely I'll be buying another Camry.

Daily commute 100 miles times 23 years. It has take four used 79-83 Mercedes diesels to get me this far. (However saving one seems only prudent.) Bought the '01 used 36600 miles. Although the Camry doesn't give you the feel of the heavy Mercedes, its ride is acceptable. The Camry takes less maintenance so far than the over engineered Mercedes. The 4 cylinder does fine, very smooth.

My Camry is like an old friend. As it gets older, items wear, I guess. My exterior driver door handle broke and revealed it was not designed as I thought it should've been. Car gets temperamental and an infrequent occasion, it doesn't want to start and I found out several other owners had suffer from this. Lots of good looking plastic, but I guess the good ole days of steel are gone. Especially the bumper. Wind noise from exterior mirrors is loud and CD player probably needs adjustment.

I purchased this car from a friend who wanted a 2008 model. It is in excellent shape in all areas. I also like the two tone paint and the other upgrades that went with the Gallery Series. It had 162000 miles on it, but looks like new. I did put new tires on and brake pads and new belts, only because I wanted to start off with them on it. It had been taken care of in all areas. Besides changing the oil on date of purchase, I had the radiator flushed. I only paid $5000.00 for it, and am extremely happy. I have 164000 on it now. My last car was a Cadillac Seville and it had 378000 miles when I gave it up. All my mileage is highway travel. I baby my cars to go as long as possible.

First off the reason why I gave this a 5 in the fun to drive and exterior design is because I'm only 26. I traded my 99 Honda Civic in 2004 for this Camry. I prefer the space in the Camry and the durability. I have only been left on the side of the road once and that was my fault for not replacing the timing belt sooner. Bad me! Other than that it has just been scheduled maintenance and a few headlight bulbs to replace. I commute a lot in headlight areas on the highway so im guessing that explains the headlights. I would definitely buy another heaven forbid something happen to the one I drive now. No more Honda Civic for me!

This Camry is a second V6 XLE I own. Both have been manufactured in Japan. I have never had any repair other than minor scratches and regular maintenance. I use the dealership for service as I found that Toyota service is about the same as others.Because I no longer commute to work, I have a low mileage but it is so comfortable to drive on long trips. It has a great pick up at every traffic light and I have to watch my speed at all times. It is a different kind of "fun to drive" from RX7 I used to drive, but I feel quite secure in this car. Cargo space is sufficient. I will keep it for a while as at present I have only 55000 miles on it.

After my wife had owned, and still owns, a Toyota, I bought a Certified Used Toyota (2001 XLE Camry V6) with 61,000 miles. Week after I had it the battery died. Since May 2007, I am going through my third caliper repair (2 on the left, one on the right)which has cost me over $1,000 to fix. Just had to replace timing belt. Seems I am constantly shelling out money to fix things. Seriously thinking about dumping this one. I might trade in on another Toyota, but my experience has not been great. I believe my caliper issue is a design flaw and that I shouldn't have to keep paying to fix

I average around 30 mpg virtually all the time. As of now I have about 92000 miles on it with absolutely no problems. I have not replaced the timing belt nor have I had to replace the brake pads. This is an extremely reliable car. Also have a 94 4cyl Camry with 196000 miles on it with only a few problems. Couple of front axles and brakes plus on oil pump. Long story on the oil pump but it still runs and drives great.

I have a 5-speed manual and it responds great. It only has a 4 cylinder in it so in any race I end up losing but it handles very nicely on the highway for 16 hour drives and doesn't cost much in maintenance except for a few things that that have needed to be replaced, but doesn't seem bad at 110,000 and still runs clean and smooth. I wish it would hurry up and break down so I could justify going to get a Tacoma truck now.

Having purchased five Hondas, and as good as Hondas are, I must say that I certainly don't feel that the Camry gives up anything in the way of handling to my 2004 Accord Coupe, but I have gained a much smoother and quieter Lexus-like ride. This car is just so easy to drive and the ergonomics are tops. Best car for the money in my opinion. I should also mention that since I've owned the Camry (April 2001), I have not had one single problem. Put the superb Nokian all season tires on this car and the Camry sticks to the ground like glue in rain or snow. The 2001 four cylinder feels somewhat underpowered around town (especially after driving the 6-cylinder 2004 Accord Coupe with 245hp), but once you get moving, especially on the highway, the refinement of the engine really shows. 90 miles per hour on the highway and this engine is as smooth as silk.

This car is awsome, you can do 0-60 in 7.8 seconds, also this thing will go around corners like nothing. After about 3 hours the seats get uncomfortable, and the rear seat cup holder broke, but was fixed by the dealer under warranty. This car only has 42000 miles on it in 2006, and still looks and runs like new.

In the years that I have owned this car the most problem I have had is a computer problem with a dash light, fixed in 1/2 hour at the dealer, a tiny bulb replacement and a battery replacement. It is dependable, comfortable and I am still driving it and not yet ready to replace it, and now knowing that it was probably built in the states makes me feel even better. Thank you Mr. Toyota

My Camry is the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned, needing only the recommended, standard services during my ownership. It's a vehicle I enthusiastically recommend, by a manufacturer (Toyota) of the highest caliber. The back seats are as comfortable and roomy as in most luxury cars, making for a pleasant passenger experience. I plan to purchase Toyota products from this point forward.

I bought this car used from private owner in Spring 05 with 47,000 miles on it. I drove 800 miles round trip for this car. Couldn't have made a better decision. The car is absolutely beautiful in its silver mist and the original owner placed 2001 solara alloy wheels to the touch of this beautiful camry along side of its tinted windows. Very luxurious in its elegance. The flaw: It does not shift smoothly into gears and I have a popping sound when I stop in reverse. Need to have it checked. Other than that, Its a Toyota, the best money can buy, and wow is it beautiful. My fiance loves driving my camry.

We looked at a lot of cars and drove some and this is the best one we were able to purchase. No other drove with such smootheness. This is the best year for this model. I like it even over the Altimas. Go get one! You won't be sorry. But, they are hard to find. Sorry maybe I got the last good one in Portland, OR. Good luck!

Bought this car in 2002. Didn't get to spend enough time in it to discover the driver's seat is just awful. It feels misaligned, and wreaks havoc on my back. Brought it back to the dealer and they said it was fine. The acceleration was terific for the first year, then it was noticeably slower getting on the freeway. Just age I was told. The interior is bland, the exterior is okay, but more suited to senior citizens. I've had an okay experience, never been stranded. I am definitely looking to get out of this car in a hurry though.

I get over 30 mpg on the 4 cyl and I am very happy with the gas mileage since fuel costs are out the roof. This car is not for enthusiasts who love the driving experience, but for a family or as a commuter, it can't be beat.

Well, this car is pretty reliable. Have not had major problem with it, Except for 3 times the check-engine light came on. The first time was becasue I did't tighten the gas tank gap properly. the 2nd time it went on, have autozone peps check the reason for me, it says something about transmission fault. I dont quite remember what it was. They deleted the code for me, I thought It was just because I did't tighten the gao properly again. but then, 3 days after that, the check engine light came on again. Had to take it to a toyota dealership, they checked and told me they do not know what the problem is and the car is fine. weird!

This is my first Toyota, I purchased after extensive research. I was discouraged with repair costs and quality of previous cars. I have put 80K plus in 3.5 years on this Camry. Not one problem, regular oil changes etc. only. Yes, it could have more power, but well worth living without considering all the other good things. I will always buy Toyota based on my past experiences with other cars. Toyota has more recommended used car models than any other make, and I know why. My kids are tired of me saying "BUY A TOYOTA" !!!

This is a Japanese built car and bulletproof. I had my fill of edgy design and unreliability (i.e. American cars)so went for the conservative look. It has handled every condition I could throw at it and it didn't hurt to have the traction control, ABS, etc. What has made this the best car buying and ownership experience I have ever had (in 40 years of driving) is the dealership. An unbeatable combination.

Most people don't think of a Camry as a fun car to drive, the majority of people think of it as a family car. I'm a college student and I absolutely love driving my Camry, it is roomy for someone being 6 foot both in the front and back, it fits everything that I need, it is also a good car for being a designated driver cause it holds a lot of people with still having good visibility and handling. Overall it is a good car, with exceptional features.

This is nearly the perfect car. It is quiet, smooth, well built and inexpensive to drive. It's only draw back is it isn't fancy. Not much for little convience things like the temperature gage you have to push a button and see either the time or temperature. What would it cost to have a seperate display, 50 cents or so. If you want a car that will run and run and be nice to drive without a lot of expense you will be hard pressed to do better than this.

the camrys from 97-2002 had a design flaw, which you have to change oil more frequent than the manual said. the manual recommends you to change oil between 5k-7.5k, no way you can wait for that long. because the camry was running at higher temp to reach good fuel economy, therefore, the oil can loose its lubrication ability faster, so i would say, change it at 2.5k, or you will have a problem called oil gelling. search google.com by toyota oil gelling as key word, you will know what is going on. Overall, it is a good vehecle. but not the model between 97-02. you have to change oil more often.

I have added an air intake which has boosted HP by about 15 HP. I have also added 17 inch rims that are wider that help give it awesome traction around curves and I notice I don’t have to break around certain turns that, because the car sticks so well to the ground. I have not had any mechanical problems yet. Personally this isn’t the best car for a person my age.

Bought new at the end of July, '01. Live in Seattle area, park outside, with some evergreens in the area. Keep car washed and waxed, and haven't burned out on that, yet! Drive alone most of the time, 70% freeway, some stop and go. Had one cold start sputter a few months after purchase, which lasted about 15 seconds. No repeats since. Have had no mechanical problems with car. Is basically same as the day it came off the showroom floor. If I had a garage, it would be just like new. It is not a sports car, and if I drove it like one, I may not be as happy as I am.

Check the re-sale value before you purchase...you may think twice! I have the SE model and wish I would have waited longer before purchasing this vehicle. It's been in the shop 3 times (within 1 year) for a knocking sound under the hood. The dealership told me that it was loose strut caps, and now they don't know what the problem is (they say they don't hear anything now...hmmm) and the problem is still not fixed. It does not do well in snow - slides all over the road. Although this car is very roomy, I wouldn't purchase another.

Has 16K miles. Has a rattle by the ashtray. Had the dealership look at it. Tech heard rattle but unsuccesful at repair. Now have a squeek in the passenger side seat. If passenger shifts weight you get a annoying squeek. Will take and let dealership repair both problems. Average about 32 miles a gallon. Drive 80 miles a day, all highway (65 to 70 mph). Car is quiet (except squeek and rattle). Had to replace speaker cover on passenger side door (think child may have broke, but not sure). Wish I had bought V-6, but wanted fuel economy.

Fully satisfied. The car is quite and comfortable. More room than a honda. Drives like a lexus. Looking to buy the Sienna now.

This is the second Toyota we bought. We have another old Tercel and it is running great with some maintanence. So we trusted Toyota and bought this Camry. It is running great, smooth and quiet. I am thinking of buying another Toyota once I get a raise! :)

It is the dependable car.

I have it for almost a year without any problem. Driving is quite. However, the engine is kind of weak(136 hp) for 4c. So far I satisfy with it.

You know those commercials where the car owner says "I love my Toyta Camry!"? Well, I can now add myself to those ranks. The Camry is a well built, reliable semi-luxury sedan I think. I love the feel & you do have a real sense of driving a car that will take care of you if you take care of it. I am a sold Camry owner for life!

I drive 70+ miles a day mainly on highway. I am not a car person. Did research for more than 10 month before I got rid of my Kia/Sephia 1994 with 70K mile on it, and bought this Toyota. Love it. NEVER BUY KIA!!! I will buy another toyota if I have to.

Love the camry

I love driving this car. Perfect for small families. Drives well in rain, sleet, snow, and ice. Has a good deal of pickup for those "need to merge NOW" occassions. Very roomy and comfortable interior with plenty of seating for 5 adults.

I do a great deal of driving in town, and the fuel economy is fantastic. This vehicle does every thing right, smooth, quiet, very reliable and the perfect size.

I have had cars from Mercedes, Porche, and post divorce, a corolla. I loved that Toyotas have cost pennies to maintain. I had my Corolla for 5 yrs, put 98,000 miles on it, only changed oil.Changed front brake pads once. Had Camry for one year. Drive it like crazy cause it's roomy. I take it back and forth from Phoenix to Los Angeles. Gets about 470 miles to the gallon so I can get there on one tank of gas and don't have to stop.

Disappointed

I bought the car based on everything I had read and was almost immediately disappointed. Handling on the base model was very sloppy, Steering was non responsive. It floated all over the lane at highway speed. Brakes were poor. I traded it in at 10,000 miles.
