This model is told to be the best maxima made due to the body style as well as the engine and transmission found on these models. Its a Very fun drive lots of power and stylish than most cars you may find during this era i received my Nissan maxima as a graduation gift from my dad he had it at it prime, i borrowed it once or twice on a night on the town before owning the vehicle myself The car did have many sensor issues my dad must of replaced all of the oxygen sensors, as well as replaced the alternator by the time i received the car. Upon receiving the car it had 80000 miles on it two years with the vehicle im currently going on 94k the car has had many repairs done to it usual wear and tear. i put about 4,000 dollars into the vehicle with new brakes, rotors, back calipers, tires, struts, new front transmission mount along with a radiator, muffler, new headlights, spark plugs, a new battery as well as had to change speed and knock sensor for it to pass inspection. The wiring which connects the radio was so corroded i had to fix the connection that connected the radio to the battery, but these issues are something you can expect from 15 year old car. Even though the car is a little long in the tooth she still runs great in the city or highway. Especially on road trips there is minimal blind spots when changing lanes, as well as enough power for you to move in and out of traffic. Pretty strong in the snow but it not awd so you can get stuck if your not careful. This car can hold its own against a 2016 Honda civic and gave it a run for its money. This car is notorious for holes in the exhaust, as well as rust near the back right tire, and to give you sensor issues sometimes they go away but sometimes they don't. These cars can last a long time if you put love into them by investing your time, money, and willing to get a little dirty to fix some of the problems yourself. The resale value is very good considering the age and I'm confident that i can get 3,000-4,000 dollars especially since i have been offered that price now for it. This car would be a great first car.

I finally had to let it go at 177000 miles and 14 years old. Talk about take a lickin and keep on tickin! I sure wish it hadn't become a rust bucket. She started every morning even on cold ones and that's -05 or more.

I have 226,000 miles on my Maxima, and wouldn't hesitate to go on a road trip in it right now. The need for the catalytic converter to be replaced is about the most expensive thing I've experienced, which doesn't affect the performance of car, just satisfying emissions needs. Otherwise just a radiator, alternator, shocks/struts and starter needed replacement after 100,000 miles which is to be expected for a 13year old car. It starts and runs no problem, All my Nissan's have been good reliable vehicles.

First purchased my certified pre-owned Nissan Maxima in 2008 with 62,000 miles. I currently have over 120,000 miles on the car and is still reliable. The car is not as fun to drive as a BMW 3 series, but has been very affordable to maintain. Most of the repairs I have had done is wear and tear items. Brakes, rotors, exhaust, radiator, tires. Engine and transmission are utterly brilliant. Tip top shape and are extremely quiet. The car does have a few problems: service engine soon light has a faultily sensor, failing speed sensors cause the TCS to come on and off, and the BOSE subwoofer shorts out sometimes. Also, leather rips due to heated seats.

Bought my 2001 Nissan Maxima in Dec 2003 and it has been a great car! Love the way it handles. It's roomy and very comfortable. It now has 194k miles and still going strong. Only regular maintenance done over the 10 years I've owned the car. When I sell this one, I hope to get another Maxima.

WONDERFUL car! I bought it used in July, 2003 after literally months & months of research. You may not believe me, but I now have almost 170,000 miles on it, and there is NOT EVEN ONE RATTLE while driving! Its computer chip went out at about 150,000 miles, but I found a good used one online for about $250. And that is the only time it did not fire up and go. It has been extraordinarily reliable. Had to get seat covers for the leather seats, but the Texas sun where I live eats up leather seats on any car. I replaced the driver's seat at about 140,000 miles because two of the power motors in it went out, and it was less expensive to replace the whole seat with a used one from a salvage yard than replace the motors in the original. Factory Bose stereo system w/ subwoofer still is crisp & LOUD w/ no distortion. I get 23-27 mpg depending on the amount of city/highway driving I do, and it still does not burn one drop of oil between changes. Power seats are adjustable every way imaginable, & those front seats are more comfortable than most living room furniture, no kidding. Has pass-through from truck to back seats. This is far and away the best vehicle I have ever owned, and I have been through seven other foreign & domestic cars & trucks before I was lucky enough to find this one. Test drove a Chrysler 300M right before test driving the Maxima, and the American vehicle was a joke, absolute junk, compared to this one. I remember saying to my son at the time, "This car is amazing. You just THINK what you want it to do and it does it." I honestly expect to get 250,000-300,000 miles out of it, and I highly recommend this model year and other Maxima model years without any reservations whatsoever. Just a wonderful, wonderful vehicle!

I bought my 01 Maxima SE with every available option ($31,500 sticker) from the original owner in 2007 with 106k miles on it. It just rolled over to 145k miles and I know it would run to 200k easily. Things I love about this car are the sports-sedan styling, the extremely powerful and silky V6, it's good interior space, & high-quality fit and finish. My car has been very reliable and the engine and tranny are great. To date, I've had to fix a rear ABS wheel sensor, the catalytic converter, new alternator, and a hinge and spring for the fuel door rusted off. It is also starting to rust where the rear plastic bumper meets the metal body frame on both sides of the car, leaving orange-ish stains

Purchased new w/Infinity all-leather interior. 130K miles. I take good care of it. Still looks great w/a few minor paint touch-ups. Wonderful car for the S.W. and high-speed touring. Good power/weight ratio. 21 mpg city, 28 highway at 80+mph. Unmatched visibility for touring and safety. Roomy inside and comfortable rear seat for passengers up to 6' tall. Great driving car with ample power. Good human factors design for driver - everything obvious and handy. Replaced all 4 O2 sensors, starter, radiator and alternator between 105K & 120K miles, front camber kit and rotors are due. Regular maintenance w/synthetic oil. Altogether a great car that's fun to drive w/a lot of good miles left in it.

Awesome car, but i bought it from a bad previous owner who put a tremendous amount of miles on it in the year before i bought it. It needed new rotors, brake pads, belts, & MAF. Eventually it needed 2 o2 sensors, but they were due anyway and are cheap. If you get drilled & slotted rotors, you should have no problems with warping.

Purchased my Maxima with 33k miles in 2004. Ran great and very reliable until around 2008. The maxima began to barrage me with check engine lights, needed an 02 sensor, brakes, MAF problems, muffler holes, and the list goes on. The car now has 124k miles and it is time to move on. As soon as I get one thing fixed, another thing goes down and I can't keep up with it. The car is very fun to own and I love the look and power of it but I can't keep up with the maintenance. According to the internet, 2001 Maximas are prone to every problem you can think of! Don't buy one!

Bought new and now have 185,000 miles. A great car to own that has never left us stranded. Other than needing front rotors every 20k miles, it is a very low maintenance car. A few of the dash lights work when they want to and the check engine light stays on from time to time. Dealer says no car throws a check engine code more frequently than this generation of Maxima but not to worry about it. Interior has held up amazing despite my now 7 year old. Rust is starting around the rear wheel wells so we are shopping for a new car. Prefer to stick with Nissan since this car has been so much better than my BMW's.

Not the most reliable car. Has a lot of mechanical problems that arises very often as explained below. Nissan pretty much stole everyone's money with the make of these cars b/c I feel Toyota and Honda did a whole lot better than them with the reliability of there cars. These cars are worth lees than KIAs and DAEWOOs if you ask me. I have own this car for a year and has spent more in it than its worth. To all my fellow buyers avoid these cars b/c I promise you b4 200,000 miles it will be junk unlike Toyota and Honda. At least they recall a car that has a problem all Nissan did was pocket the consumers money and gave them the middle finger. So to you Nissan I hope you go out of business.

Overall, I love my Maxima. It has been a great car over the years. Excellent, sporty performance for the money. I would say for this class of vehicle you couldn't find a better value. Have 133k on mine now, only serious problems have been a failure in the clutch hydraulics and a leaking radiator I recently had to replace. The engine in the Maxima is rock solid, and if you change the oil when you're supposed to it will never fail. Also, get Yokohama tires on this and it'll feel like you're driving a different car.

I bought this car for 9,000 in Jan 2006, it had 80,000 miles and was in exceptional shape, clean engine, clean interior with a couple of superficial tiny scratches. It now has over 104,00 miles on it and this year marked the first time i had to have any work done ....New Alternator, belts & battery, pretty good considering the battery and belts were the originals along with the alternator. Its a great car, rides smooth, can hardly hear the engine, everything still works...a/c, steering wheel audio control and cruise control. The headlamps do tend to cloud & I feel they are a not as bright as they should be.The front passenger window moves up and down extremely slow (Has since i bought it)

I bought this car new in 2001 due to it's great handling and performance. Unfortunately, I had no way of knowing how cheap Nissan had gone on the parts. O2 sensors, mass airflow sensors, busted muffler, warped door to the gas tank, electrical system issues...I can go on and on. My advice is to stay away!

Orig. owner of my 01 Max. Love it overall, but have put 3 sets of brakes on it now at 140,000 miles. this last set involved callipers as the rotars were very warped - perhaps due to callipers not releasing fully, wearing them faster. Also needed a speed sensor for the right rear wheel. All for $900. Wondering how other owners were faring with brake issues on their 01'. Still handles well. Great Giddy-up and gets an avg. of 23mpg in the city - around 330 miles to a tank of gas.

Purchased the car with 62k miles still have it at 118k today. Overall solid car, minus the constant idle problem which no one can find a solution for, coils, and squeaky front end. OH yeah and rear wind noise is wayyy too loud!..other than that fast fun car to drive. Must use premium for maximum performance. And never take the car to the dealership once you are out of warranty.

I bought this car at 56k miles and have been very pleased. I have taken very good care of the car, all recommended maintenance. I have replaced the alternator at 70K, had a small problem with the front right tire making noise, turns out it was only a slightly uneven wheel, simply put it on the back and it has never maid a noise since. Wish I could have found a 5-speed for the same price/miles. I average 22mpg in town; about 26mpg at 80mph. The ride is a little rough in town, but nothing but comfort at high speeds. Overall a very impressive car.

Purchased at 73,000 miles and driven 4,000 in 4 months during one of the harshest winter in Chicago. The car started every time and everything worked great. The engine is very quite and the ride is very comfortable. Fuel economy is worse than expected as it has been consistently getting about 18 MPG in the city but it jumps to 22 MPG on highways. Still very stylish after all these years.

Bought SE model, loaded, new in '01. Check engine light and o2 sensors a continuous problem for last 8 years. Dealers stick it to you each time attempted to fix these issues. Finally gave up years ago and just live with. Car now has 200K miles and continue to drive as winter vehicle, but must say the engine has been very solid. Bought a 15" Blizzak tire/wheel package (all four wheels) to replace the 17" Potenzas for winter driving and this car rolls through the bad winters of Upstate New York like 4 wheel drive! Would likely not buy another Nissan vehicle as the frequent warning lights on the dash are just a pain.

This car was my Mom's 6th Nissan in a row, after she gave it to me in 04, She moved on to her 7th if that gives you any indication of how loyal we are to Nissan. This car has been extremely reliable and easy to own. In fact, just a few days ago on Christmas morning was the first repair its ever had done, a starter. The car is very high quality from the interior materials featuring soft touch leather and vinyls almost everywhere and soft touch plastic knobs, the the 8.5 year old paint thats never been waxed that still shines like new. Not only is it very comfortable and reliable, but it will run to 60 in under 7 seconds, all while achieving 30+ highway and 23+ city on premium fuel.

Since then the car has been very dependable and fun to drive. All other costs have been maintenance related (brake pads, tires, etc.) I get 19 mpg local and an impressive 27 mpg hwy driving 65-70 mph with 3 passengers & luggage. I highly recommend this make & model. My 2nd Maxima. My 1st ('95 SE) was hit & totaled at 9 years & 94,000 miles, but was running like a top until then.

Bought the car in '05 with 95km and now has 166km. I'll first start off with the good qualities: comfortable luxury interior with good sound system. Has good power and fun to drive. Now the problems. Non stop idle problems. I have had many parts changed and still no luck. It seems like the check engine light is always on for something. To this day I still have idle problems which the dealership wants $2400 to change the computer. There is also some rust starting on the body. Other than that, it's been a decent car.

I've owned only Nissans. I had a Nissan Sentra Coupe SE 1991 (first car) excellent used car, Nissan Maxima GXE 1994 used, and currently owned 2001 SE brand new from the dealer. Needless to say I still own this vehicle. Only regular maintenance had to replace struts & springs @ 108k, thus far. Keep in mind, this is the last truly manufactured in Japan vehicle so I can't speak on the newer models. But I can say this, I plan on keeping this vehicle for another 100k hopefully. I considered upgrading to an Infiniti G35, but decided to keep the Maxima since it has been so reliable thus far. Many people buy used and don't realize just how important the previous history is. It can impact you badly.

My husband and I purchased two brand new Nissan Maxima's 2001 Limited Edition cars (made in Japan). After I bought mine, he loved it so much, he bought one. I still have mine and it is an awesome car! I have maintained all regular maintenance & service on it and the items that needed repair (catalytic converter and alternator) were covered under warranty. This is the second Maxima (& 4th Nissan) I've owned and it is very fast, has great pick-up and is still stylish (after 7 years). My husband just traded his car in because he wanted a 4 cylinder and now misses his Maxima. The Bose system has incredible sound, all controls & power items still work, no problems with leather or paint! Buy one!!

I have owned 4 Maximas and this is by far the worse one I have owned. I have replaced 2 sensors, the exhaust, the air flow meter, the signal light flashes very fast when you turn it on to make a left hand turn, and the leather on the driver's seat is cracking. And I have only owned the car for 3 1/2 months!

Good car, poor dealerships. Ride is too firm for passengers but road handling is excellent. Fuel economy is very good, city and highway, even with regular gas. Every accessory still works.

Bought new, now 74,000 miles. One service bulletin for tie rod. Paint could be better, chips easily. Creaky front end. Decent mileage on highway. Recently replaced exhaust for about $500. Brakes work great but rotors do not hold up. Will be on 3rd set of fronts next break job. Stiff, sometimes rude ride. I replaced front right speaker last year. Easy to do, ($50). Still fun to drive, even though I have an automatic. Plenty of power for pretty much any situation. Sometimes let 'er rip to 5500 RPMS and the car just flies - never complains. Recently on 3rd set of tires. Went for good set of Bridgestones, all weather. Confident foul weather car. Maybe mine was a good sample. Never let me down.

Good sporty car

I bought my maxima 3 years ago as used, 40 k miles on it. Now it has 100 k miles and it still drives like new. Bose system is awesome. Power is also great. sport suspension is a little stiff , but you get better handling with it. Since I've owned it I changed tires, oil, battery and some exhaust pieces. Tires are expensive ($800 for the set), original tires worked for 50 k miles. Driver's seat leather has some cracks, I guess its normal for that mileage. If driving over 70 mph, there is some wind noise. Overall, a solid quality sedan.

Purchased new in 2001. No mechanical problems ever. Body/finish still great. All scheduled maintenance completed. Vehicle washed and waxed on a regular basis. Only problem was the Toyo tires that lasted only 30K. Otherwise this has been an extremely dependable vehicle and a joy to own and drive. Would consider another Nissan for sure.

The 2001 Nissan Maxima is a very reliable and fun car to drive. In the past six years I have never had to have my car towed. I recommend anyone looking for a new car to test drive the Nissan Maxima.

This is my second Nissan Maxima. My first was a 94 SE, which I loved dearly; it had almost 200,000 miles on it, didn't need any major repairs, and was fantastic, until someone hit me and totaled it. Anyway, I purchased the 2001 SE this winter from a private seller, and couldn't be happier. Mine is "Sunlit Sand", with tan leather seats, moonroof, Bose system, auto everything, spoiler, the works. It's comfortable, stylish, and very well put together - everything I expect from a Nissan. I saw that others have had unfortunate experiences with theirs, but I am still a proud believer in these cars. As long as you take care of it, it will take care of you!

Bought the car new (13 miles on it) from the dealer. For the most part the car performed well. 26,393 - driver side window stopped (warranty). 44,749 - engine warning light (catalytic converter replaced). 46,356 - engine warning light (catalytic converter replaced again). 56,784 - seat belt light (dealer convinced me I needed a new battery). Seat belt light came back on within 10 miles of leaving the dealership. Warranty expired 60,968 - replaced seat belt sensor. Later issues (after 5yrs, like clock work): back left tire bearing tie rod rear calipers struts. I should have gotten out between 4 and 5 yrs. After that things really started to fall apart.

I thought Nissan was the better deal compared to a comparable Accord. Boy was I wrong. In the past year I've had to replace the rear calipers and the check engine light comes on randomly. At the time it first came on, the car was covered under the factory warranty. The Nissan dealer replaced what they said was a faulty oxygen sensor. The check engine light came on about 3 months later. By that time the warranty had expired. I had another shop determine it was a catalytic convertor. For now I'll just live with it.

I bought the car with 64K miles on it, now have 99K. Mixed reliability. Non-major problems indlude: STAINLESS STEEL exhaust has needed replacement. Brakes worked on 3 times. Suspension is on it last leg, but that isn't surprising at near 100K miles. Leather seats are cracking and peeling. Bose sound system is pretty much shot now and needs to be totally replaced according to the dealership. On the plus side, the engine/tranny combo is smooth and powerful. Major mechanicals (engine, trans, etc.) reliabililty has been rock solid. Front and rear seats are VERY comfortable. As long as the major mechanicals hold up, no plans to sell this car any time soon despite the constant minor repairs.

Purchased new in 2001 (built in Japan), low mileage (55k), regular maintenance, well cared for, interior great. In six years, not a single item has failed and have only replaced crappy stock Potenzas tires. New Yoko Avid 4Vs great all season performer. Driving on snow and ice still marginal, but not designed for ice/snow performance. Ergonomics are excellent, cockpit is well designed and comfortable. Bose sounds great. I drive spirited and the 5 speed w/3.0 liter V6 (legendary engine) offers excellent performance and descent fuel economy 22/27. Not a drop of oil in engine compartment. Will need brakes soon and other 60k maintenance. I love this car and will keep it for years. Excellent value.

I was happy about a year ago when I bought the car with 22,000 miles on it. I thought the car was very comfortable , powerful, and looked great. After a while I noticed the suspension was very noisy and the brakes were grinding and squealing. Well, after 4 different shops and finally going to Nissan I finally had quiet brakes and rotors $750 later. A Week later a wheel bearing went (also costly). Then the windshield starting leaking, which has now discolored the headliner and now sometimes the car acts as if it doesn't want to crank like the starter is going to die. Now the check engine light is on. The leather seats are also cracking after taking excellent care of them!

This car started out ok but just out of warranty a computer module failed and cost about $700 Can. After that we have put thousands of $$ to keep it on the road. It's in the shop now. Another computer item for $1000 incl labor. It was towed into the shop to get this fixed, and this is the second time it had to be towed. Last item it was the alternator $700. The vehicle now has 190,000 km which is quite a bit but did not expect to have get rid of it this soon. I have never had a vehicle as unreliable as this one. I would have to be crazy to ever consider another Nissan product.

The car was more or less fine till it got close to 80K mi. The car never came close to the sticker mi/gl - 23 mi/gl at best. After warranty ended (at 36K) - I replaced MAF, rear brake caliper, alternator, battery, all ignition coils, 1 O2 sensor, 2 sets of tires. I've been battling with check engine light for two months now... $800 later it's still on. Dealership replaces one part after another with no end in sight. Now dealership wants $2,000 more to replace both catalytic converters, refuses to do it under emission warranty. I called Nissan Corp.- they don't want to help either. So much for customer service and loyalty. Oh well, last Nissan that my family will ever buy!

I never thought I would write a bad review for a Maxima. I bought this car as a certified used car with 60k and 2 years old. As soon as the warranty ran out the lights on the Bose stereo as well as the component lights went out. The passenger window will not roll up. The leather is tearing in the front seats. The steering makes a turkey noise. The front and rear brakes and shocks went out at the same time but probably was due for service. Great engine I have had no problems with it. The power is great as long as you don't have 4 people in there. This is my 3rd maxima and the others lasted to 200k miles, this one will not.

Bought a fully loaded GLE Meridian edition with every option that was available. Compared to my other car a 2001 Honda Accord EX V6, the Maxima is bigger and more powerful. The Accord on the other hand has been bullet-proof reliable only going back to the dealer for a malfunctioning clock. The Maxima however has had all 6 engine sensors replaced and now I am dealing with the infamous wheel bearing issues. Waiting to find out if the dealer will honor the warranty and cover them. Based on the lack of reliability I would have reservations recommending this car.

What a blast to drivel. The only things that I would change would be the front-wheel drive (too much torque steer) and a more powerful sub for the somewhat weak BOSE system. I've had no mechanical problems - only routine servicing and a flat. But, my front driver's seat is splitting in a few places. The car's got a big backside, so high speed road handling is not a stable as I'd like. But, it IS a sedan. And, a big one at that. U-turns aren't always made either. But, I got the 20th Anniversary edition, and I love the subtle fascia and body kit extras that come with it. I just wish there was more of a difference between it and the normal SE edition.

Original review 02-14-2003. A very good car, now with 64,000 miles. I dropped my comfort rating from 9 to 8 because I have tired of the firm ride. Economy rating from 9 to 8 because we avg. 24 mpg, down from 27 mpg first 3 years. Quality rating from 10 to 9 - anyone else have peeling paint? I washed the car this week, and paint is coming off the hood in quarter sized pieces - NOT GOOD! We'll see how Nissan stands behind their cars now.

I purchased this vehicle "used" in 2004. I have loved the performance and styling of the Maxima. Shortly after purchase I needed a 02 sensor and a new catalytic converter. I was lucky to have purchased a pre-owned warranty that covered the problems that would have cost me approx. $1000. I also needed to replace the Bridgestone potenzas that I found to be horrible in the snow. If you plan to buy a car that has 17" rims remember that even the best all season radial tire at (225/17/93V) will be marginal in the snow. I purchased Continental Conti- touring tires at a great price and have put approx. 20K on them with no problems. The 2001 Nissan Maxima SE is a solid choice for the price.

The interior and trunk are roomy, and the little conveniences like sunglass holder, spacious console box for CD's,extra backseat drink cup holder and power plug make a real difference on trips. The car's power is a big plus when merging in traffic or handling congested but fast-moving freeway driving. I have been pleasantly surprised by gas mileage.

I've always wanted a Maxima and finally found a great deal on a 5sp GXE. obviously the nissan V6 is well known and i can feel all 222hp and 210lbft of torque in any gear. The clutch took awhile to master and the shift throws are a bit long and notchy but the power makes shifting largely optional anyway. Interior build quality could be better in places but the overall design is just right. Interior room and fuel economy are excellent, although the latter is balanced out by the need for 91 octane fuel. Exterior design is unique, though not quite beautiful. After driving 7000 mi, the car now has 52,500 mi and has needed only a reflash of the catalytic converter (covered under warranty).

Purchased 2001 SE brand new for my wife and absolutely love the car at first - power, comfortable, ample interior space and did I mention 'Power'. For the previous 15 years, we've owned Hondas and Toyotas and guess we were spoiled with their reliabilityr records of these. Starting at 30k we started having problems with the Maxima (O2 sensor, transmission, and Catalytic Converter). These are not your regular $200-$300 problems but more like $900- 1,300 a pop and you would expect these problems at 200+k versus 30-100k. I love the power and styling of Nissans, but I must say I'm going back to the ole' faithful Honda or Toyota for reliability and $$ saves in maintenance.

This is my 4th Maxima and I absolutely love this car. I've had it 4 and a half years now. The car rides smooth and quiet. It has a strong 227 Hp engine, the same one found in the 2001 Infinity I30. 4900 miles on it and still performs like new. No problems to report. All I've done to this car is replaced the tires when needed. The reliability of this car is excellent. This is exactly why I buy Maximas and nothing else, it's the best car for the money. I'm about to buy a 2006 Maxima. I've received many great offers on my car to sell.

The 01' 20th Anniversary Special Edition is a wonderful vehical inside and out, including the mechanical parts. Nissan builds wonderful cars and the safety features are great. The car rides just as you move the steering wheel and stops on the dime. No hesitations! This is my second Maxima, previously owning a 95'. The bang is not as strong but it drives just as well. I feel extremely safe in Maxima's. The 95' Nissan was my first car, I thought I was in the Indy 500 and should have been dead 3x's. However, have been driving the Maxima saved my life.

I bought my 2001 GLE from a dealer in Minnesota. I bought the car with 113,000 miles for $10,600. This car IS AMAZING!! This car drives like a porsche, and best of all, its affordable. You get a lot of bang for your buck with the 222-horse engine, and the features of this car. The engine is very quiet, in fact you can hear the tires over the engine. The bose 200 watt system is also a great bonus to this car. If you are in the market for a used sedan, the maxima is the only choice. Its powerful, classy, comfortable, and safe. I give this car 2 thumbs WAY UP!!

I originally purchased the car because I liked the style and supposed reputation of Nissan. My car had only 19000 miles and looked in mint condition. It was an off leased vehicle from a Nissan employee, at least that is what I was told. It was purchased from a Nissan dealer thinking they would stand behind their own product. As soon as I got it home, it started smoking white exhaust.Without going into all the boring details I finally got a new short block from the dealer, but not without threatening to sue them. Neither my dealer nor Nissan treated me with any respect and will never purchase another Nissan product, especially from Ft Wayne Nissan. Will go back to a reliable brand Toyota.

I decided to go with the Nissan Maxima and I have been very pleased with the car over the last couple of months. The car is built very well and is nicely appointed for a 12-17,000 used vehicle. Another thing I like about this car is the body style that sticks to the shape that is very attractive to the eye. Inside the controls are well laid out, and the BOSE system performs quite well. I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a well-priced, reliable, and sporty choice for a long term vehicle. I have read many reviews and the car holds up to its rating.

this car is the sickest car ive ever driven it plus i added a cold air intake which really makes the car pull off the line as if it needed more power steering and cornering is excellent driving a 2000 accord ex v6 gold (hayat) and i have to say the maxima outperforms it.

I was reluctant to get a Maxima because I had a Ford Mustang GT and a Chevrolet Camaro Z28 just before the Maxima. The Z28 would blow the Maxima and the Mustang away...but the Maxima has the same horsepower as my 1996 GT and it is a higher quality car. I am very glad I purchased the Maxima and Nissan now has a loyal customer...

Purchased my 2001 Nissan Maxima new and roughly four years later I am still enjoying the drive. it has a strong engine (227HP) and excellent and brakes. its transmission is the most irratating item. Its shifts are not as crisp or predictable under certanin driving conditions as I would expect in a sports-oriented sedan. It provides a high level of comfort and convenience. The only quality issue was the leather on the drivers' seat side bolster wore through from sliding across it or snagging on cell phoneThis was a $200 repair, but now it is like new. The seat is only partially covered with leather, most of it is vinyl. The Bose sound system is supurb! I am experiencing an annoying groan / squeak from dash area that I can't locate. My overall evaluation is that this ia a great vehicle for the money.

My 2001 Nissan Maxima is more fun than any other sedan out there. I didn't want what everyone else had, and this car is very different. Having said this, it has a poor steering radius, mediocre fuel economy, pthe aint chips easily on front. On the plus side, the car has good power and handling, ground clearance, a smooth ride, It is biga nd hard to maneuver, which is bad for downtown or tight areas. Overall the Maxima is a food family car. It is very safe and has lots of safety features.

I bought my '01 Nissan Maxima brand-new. I have loved it up to now, it has recently gone out of warranty, and has had some problems. I had problems with the starter..etc. I also slide around in the snow, . Lving in Chicago I need to drive my husband's Jeep around. This car has good looks and a lot of power. I now have 40,000 miles on it and it is worth only $11,000. It has deprectiated very quickly. Also my friend's Lexus SUV gets better gas mileage than my Maxima.

I have a Nissan Maxima 2001 SE 5 speed black on black, with a few up grades such as stillen intake, crank pullies, stillen exhaust, progess springs, akebono brakes, stillen strut bars, and advanced timming. I had it up to 152mph at 6100 rpms and it wanted more. I had before this car an Acura Legend 5 speed. I also had a 1990 BMW 525 I automatic. I like the Nissan Maxima by far.

I love this car and never doubt that it will perform in extreme situations. I go through front tires every year so you can imagine how aggressively I drive it. I had this car at very high speeds, including turns, and never lost control; it slides beautifully through the turn. The suspension seems soft and suspect on turns, but the compression is set nicely so that it holds...just have to get the feel. No problems with the engine after 50000 hard miles. I've gone through 3 sets of breaks and 14 tires already ($$$) but that was my fault, not the car's. There really isn't much you can be unsatisfied with for the money. Had it for 4 years and plan to keep it for 4 more or so (sell@100K).

This is the best car I've ever owned. Beautifully designed inside, extremely comfortable, and a blast to drive. Zero problems after 40,000 miles. Only wish it had a little better fuel economy but not bad -- generally 26-28 mpg highway and 22-23 around town. After 3 years it still looks and drives great.

I leased this new in 9/2001. It's now 9/2004 and I still enjoy driving this car. I've owned many new cars and after 3 years, I'm normally anxious to get something new; not this time. I'll purchase this when the lease is up (a couple of months). Having only 20K miles on it helps. The ride is much quieter than I expected with the low profile 17" tires. I never feel cramped and there is plenty of room in the back seat for two kids (when I decide to leave the Odyssey in the garage).

What I like best about this car is that all models (GXE, GLE and SE) were treated equally, at least engine wise, which is where it matters. It has a very powerful 235hp V6 engine for all models, and it's wonderful to feel that red line to the top. It handles wonderful too, it has a sporty look on the front, so if someone ahead of you sees you from their rearview mirror they see the muscle car front of your car. But once you pass them all they see is a more classy kind of look of your car. I purchased this car 'cause being a 30th anniversary car I knew the workers at nissan would do a better job, and they certainly did, not a single problem since I bought it.

Bought this garage kept Sterling Mist beauty in Sept 03. Most of the 24,000 miles were highway miles. The sales lady said it was fast and that sparked my interest, naturally! It was and is and I am totally in love with this car. Plenty of power and great gas mileage in spite of the weight of my right foot. The stereo sounds good and the leather interior is super comfy. This car is a dream to drive and great on the highway. Its nimbleness saved our lives one night on the Florida Turnpike. Make sure you tint the windows as this really improves the look. Mine was a "fishbowl" and I had the tint done the day after I bought it. Couldn't be happier with this rig!

Bought my GLE in July,'03 with 69,000 miles on it from a Houston dealer for $11,450. No oil used between changes. Lots of adjustments for seats, great lumbar support, like sitting in a fine chair in your home. Bose stereo is just incredible. Gas mileage: 23-27 mpg mostly city, but engine is so responsive it is hard to lay off of it. VERY comfortable and smooth ride with GLE suspension. Good legroom in rear with cupholders all over. Stereo controls on steering wheel a great convenience/safety feature. Auto trans is smooth as can be, no comparison to American cars like my brother's Buick LeSabre and Chrysler 300M. Great car!

Mileage remains 24mpg consistantly. Stock Toyo tires changed at 60000. They were spongy, a lot of slip angle, lot of understeer, and not good for aggressive turning. Brake disks are warped. Pulsing during stops. Handling is a disappointment. Stock shocks are terrible. Too soft in front. Rear shocks bottomed out at 25000 on small bumps. Body roll in turns is unacceptable. No sway bar in the rear? What we they thinking at Nissan! Blind spots: All pillars are too wide and exterior mirrors are too small.

You better believe this 2001 SE nissan Maxima is no Acura 3.2 TL. There absolutely no comparison. I purchased my wife a 2000 Acura 3.2 TL and purchased a 2001 Nissan SE maxima for myself. If she would, I would gladly trade the maxima for the Acura. The maxima has been nothing but a source of problems. Tire replacement ever 30,000 MI. at a cost of $1000.00. Brakes and rotors replaced at ever 15,000 MI at a cost of 400.00 per wheel set. Wheel bearing failed under 73,000 MI at a cost of approx $400.00 to replace. The company was contacted and didn't stand benind the automobile. This is a bad vehicle and Nissan will not stand behind it.

I autocross this big boat and road race it-its fully modified.

It definitely is worth the extra couple of dollars in the used car market for the added details that you get vs' lets say the SE model or any oher V6 Accord or Passat. I know numerous people that love their Maxima, but I'm not one of them. Here's why: 1) CD was bad when purchased and had to be replaced 2) O2 sensors were bad and took 5 trips for the dealer to fix. 3) Paint on front bumper doesn't handle road debris well. Looks like it's peeling and very unsightly. 4) Alternator just replaced at 55K miles (car isn't 3 yrs old yet). Contacted Nissan about covering it (warranty)anyway - they asked a bunch of useless questions to determine if I was worth bothering with and refused to help. 5) SE model tires are very expensive. OEM tires (Michelins) perform bad in moderate rain. I will NEVER buy another Nissan again.

Glad I bought this

Bought this car primarily for the engine, reliability reputation and the handsome interior. None has disappointed. The brakes were poorly manufactured however. Although the car stops well, (24,000 miles so far), the rotors already had to be turned. This was done N/C as there is a technical service bulletin for the warping of the rotors. Also, the ride may be a bit harsh for some but I did buy the SE model for its sports car like handling. I would buy this car again.

I considered several other cars before purchasing this one. Some of the cars that I thought about were the Infiniti I30/I35, Lexus ES300, and the BMW 528i. I chose the Max because for the money I got everything I wanted plus more and I saved thousands by not buying the others. The car is fun to drive, has a great stereo system, and looks awesome. With the AE my max stands out from other Maxima owners because of the subtle extra features such as the ground effects kit and 20th Anniversary badges. Both of my roommates have Lexus GS400's and I have their approval with the Max, and they are the hardest critics I know!

This is a gem! I have a Honda and earlier owned a Mazda and there is no comparison. At 222HP, this baby can leave others gaping at the signal lights in Chicago! We extensively test drove the Camry and the Accord before we settled in for this car. The interior leg room is the best for any car, even the bigger American cars have less leg room. There is no road or engine noise at all in the car. Its beautifully designed and has tons of space in the back seat too. This is one car which will last us for another 10 years (we haven't needed a single repair in the last 3 years).

Great car. Very quiet interior. Powerful V-6 even at 222hp. Handles better than expected for a full size sedan with 4 doors. Excellent room inside. fits four adults easily. Steering wheel radio controls. Big trunk. Seats are form fitting, but could be a tad "cushier". HUGE storage with FOUR areas for drinks, cans, cups etc....and holds them secure!! Huge center storage for CD's to even stand upright. Would easily buy the same car again.

Got the 20th Anniv Edition with the 5- speed manual since my previous 1988 and 1997 Maxima SE's all had 5-speed manual trans. I might have a biased opinion The automobile handles gracefully and is always begging for more. Exterior is complimented by factory installed spoilers and all around ground effects and interior is beautifully done. Overall, highly recommended if you need exitement in your everyday commute.

In my experience the 2001 Nissan Maxima SE is a solidly built car. The ergonomics are right on, and the comfort is there. Performance is where it takes the cake. Try to find another make for around $21000.00 (thats what I paid new), that can outperform this car. Not an easy task.

For the price you pay for the car, it really makes it worth every penny you paid for the car. The bonus is that you are driving something that is almost in the realm of the 3-series or the C-class. Not too many are out there in this price range that exists. Like the General Maximus (aka Maximas) those can try to ignore its existence, but in the end it will win back its rightful place in the automotive world.

The Maxima is a great car for the money. The engine is the best - incredibly smooth and revs freely. I'm not as impressed with the auto transmission as it sometimes hesitates and seems tentative when accelerating after coasting at a slow speed(under 20 mph) Not terrible but sometimes annoying. Shifting is silky smooth under hard acceleration above 4000 rpm revs - very impressive. Comfortable cabin. I've never had a maintenance problem. A very well made and fun to drive sedan.

I've purchased my '01 Maxima SE 5- speed last September and I'm happy to report that nearly 1 year and 14K miles later, absolutely no faults to be found...this car is amazing! I've done nothing but routine maintenance. If I had to nitpick, my gripes are slightly notchy manual shift action and the pain of pulling out the premium gas pump. Although I have run regular and mid-grade fuel on occasion with no ill-effects, Nissan should calibrate their Max to run on 87 or 89 octane, even for a few horsepower penalty. Nevertheless, if this car stays as solid and reliable through the long haul, I'll definately be back for another.

This car is awesome, great styling and amazing performace for a 4-door sedan. But repairs are far more expensive than they should be, and seem to happen more than they should after 100,000 miles. I just bought the Maxima GXE. So far, it's been great...handles very well for a car its size. Interior room is aplenty, and the dashboard layout is much better than the new Altima I was considering. It doesn't have the frills (spoiler, rims, sunroof) but has the same engine as the other trims, and the car moves its weight very well! It's too early for a reliability estimate, but by all indications it should be excellent. Overall, a the best car for this price range.

I no longer sell Nissans but I have no reservation of going back for another Maxima when this lease is up. It is far and away the best car on the road. The SE manual is a blast to drive. I am on my 2nd maxima, having had a 1998 model for 3 years, I moved to the 20th anniversary SE model. I've never had a problem mechanically with the car. The car has been reliable through two winters. Dealer service has been top notch. The 2001 SE model is quick and agile. It's roomy (fits my 6'3, 240lbs) and comfortable. The trunk is spacious. The leather seats are very comfortable. The audio system sounds great. The car feels safe and powerful on the road, even at speed. If I were to pick one thing to complain about it's that the moon roof was not optional in the SE trim line and that means a loss of an inch or two of head room - something that matters for me.

I bought a new 2001 SE about 18 months ago. It has been a great car to date. The performance, comfort, and styling are great. The bang for the buck is huge. I can't understand why someone would choose an Accord or Camry over this car. I have averaged 23 mpg running regular unleaded, and I have had NO performance problems whatsoever. I did have to get the CD player replaced b/c it never worked. Additionally, I just replaced the stock tires at 27k. Overall, I would highly recommend this car to anybody.

Contrary to many of the reviews, my 2001 Nissan Maxima was not that good. I had it for about 4 months before I began to experience suspension problems. So, I contacted Corporate Nissan. Basically they slapped me in the face and denied any responsibility - so I filed for arbitration with a third party. In addition, Nissan does not thoroughly stand behind its products and craftsmanship from their mechanics. I will never own a Nissan and neither will anyone I know. I am going to go back to Acura/Honda were service and quality are of a higher priority than just selling a car to make money.

It's comfortable for long trips, has great front and rear passenger room, and the V-6 is one of the best on the planet.

Got a "good" deal for this 2001 Maxima in 2002, but very disappointed with the dealer. They promised 0% APR then backed out. They promised "lifetime" oil change (twice a year) when we purchased it. We called last week to verify the offer, and the salesperson told us to come in. This morning my wife brought the car in and they told her that there is no such deal. Disgusting place, this Crescent City Nissan in New Orleans.
