I bought this car with 105000 two years ago and just hit 156000 this week. I have only had minor repair issues come up mainly for the age of the car but it has never left me stranded. I never thought I was going to get this much out of a 15 year old car and it's still running like a champ!

I got my 2001 ford Taurus s.e.s. model in 2013 with 132 thousand miles-NOW-169 SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR......I have spent 6 thousand on repairs.it started every 3 months it needed another repair. now the car last every 3 weeks and another grand to fix it everyone who has worked on this car said you have to take the hole engine out to get to parts or they have to go through the dash.TRYED TO GET ALIGNMENT they could only do front the back is welded together so you cant get a full alignment.always runs hot. I have never had sooo many problems with a car.I see reviews on ford tauarus and it says reliable haha not the ses model.when you see this car run F.o.r.d. found on road dead.A RUST BUCKET

To be fair, I have heard people say that they've gotten nearly 300k with few problems, but that was not my experience. I bought mine with 105,000, thinking it would be good for a few years. Not long after the transmission failed. When I called the transmission shop asking about my Taurus, the mechanic said, "Which one, I have seven here," so I'm guessing this happens often. In the two years I've owned it it's been in the shop at least once a month. I've spent over twice the purchase price in repairs. I would caution you not to buy this car. A Honda or Toyota with twice the mileage is still a better buy.

I purchased this piece of junk Used in '09 with roughly 150K miles because I needed some wheels in a pinch. Tires and battery need replacing every two years which is normal, I think. I've had to replace the water pump twice, fuel pump, and coolant tank since. The plastic coolant tank crudding out seems to be a common complaint I'm reading. It leaks or burns through oil and I've had it checked a couple times. At this point, I am accepting lugging around quarts of oil in my trunk and did I mention the coolant leak yet (have to carry extra coolant, too)? Computer has been replaced. Every start problem imaginable has occured save the alternator.

I'm 50, have owned many a vehicle in my time on earth, and this "car" has turned out to be the worst I've ever owned. There are very few items on this car that have NOT failed at least once, and I can't describe everything that has failed in 700 characters. It has gotten so bad, that I will not even give it to charity, nor anybody else. I am planning to simply drive it into a lake and video it. Nobody should ever be subjected to all of it's flaws. Do NOT buy this model. I'll never, ever touch another Ford again as long as I live.

I bought my Taurus in 2009 with 160,000 miles on the odometer. I racked up 60,000 miles by the time 2013 rolled around. The only problems I ever had were maintenance. Tires, O2 sensor, Coil pack and thats it. While I drove it I hit a giant deer with it, didnt affect anything at all. It's the best car I've owned. I had to get rid of it recently because once it reached 220,000 miles the engine began loosing oil pressure from being worn out. Sold it to my brother and it hasn't died yet! I was very satisfied with what I got out of it.

I bought my Ford Taurus 2 years ago at around 65,000 miles. I heard bad things about Ford's so I was leery to try it, but once I got in the car it was love-at-first-turn. It handled beautifully, safely taking me through 20+ miles in 2 seperablizzards. The car is very roomy, somehow able to seat 6. The only mechanical problems it gave me was a one-time coolant problem and a tiny plastic clip that held up the muffler, but for the miles I put on that thing that's not much work at all. Unfortunately, this January I crashed it. The airbags timed perfectly and my friend and I got out of it okay. I cried though. I loved that car. If I didn't need better mileage I'd get it again.

As a whole its a very reliable car. I have come across a few issues such as the coolant tanks poor design cracking under Georgia summer heat, and transmission issues. As you might imagine look at any other car review and everyone claims that particular car is plagued. It has a surprising get up and go that you wouldn't expect from grandmas car but Ford seems to pull that off with most of their sedans. I love this car and honestly will be very sad when its gone. Recommended for first car buyers. Since i fixed the first issues I've had none others... 40k miles ago.

I bought this car for $5000 and have owned it since 2007. In the time I've owned it I've had to replace the fuel pump, rack and pinion, PCM (main computer) all the censors, gas cap, the ac has gone out, and now the car is randomly dying while driving it. I've been told that the PCM has to be replaced again to fix the issue. This is the most unreliable car I've ever owned!

Every car has its quirks... for mine, it's been the front end. I've replaced so many driveaxles, front brake components, etc that it's become an annual chore. That said, my Taurus has taken me through EVERY kind of situation with no complaint. It's been scraped over desert flatrock, towed a U-haul weighing twice as much as itself 1500 miles, crossed country several times, and attacked by wildlife (bears, deer), idiots (Satan, the semi driver) and shopping carts. We're at 168k, and easily looking at another 100-150k - if i don't replace it with something more roomy for long trips. So far, though, i haven't found another vehicle that feels so cozy/sturdy/willing.

Bought this with 69,000 miles in 07. shortly after the purchase the oil lines went. Ran good for a while after that until recently at just over 106,000 miles. In a matter of a week the ac compressor went out then the battery died and the ac compressor going bad led to it locking up and popping the belt. Yea the car does have good throttle response but the gas mileage is horrible in the city and ive just run into so many problems with it and im scared to think of whats going to happen next. Also if you have the digital climate control and want to put in a new radio the dash kit is 170$. Also there is a bad seal in the trunk and trunk will always be wet especially around the spare tire.

I've owned 3 tauruses and am considering buying a new sho. I fix cars for a living and hate working on my own so I don't buy cars that have troubles. You name the car and I've worked on it. My 2001 Taurus 24v has been more reliable than many of my customers hondas and toyotas or nissans. With 167k on the clock and counting my wife drives 12 miles each way to work every day. We take the car on road trips of 500 miles or more at a time and have never had a failure of any thing and I don't drive the car like grandma either. Our last tuarus was a 90'sho 5 spd that had 270,000 miles on it when we sold it.

I bought this car as my first car about 3 and a half years ago. As soon as I finished paying it off, it started having one major problem after another. I liked driving the car while it worked, but all too often it didn't. I have only put ~16k miles on it since January '07 and I've had 3 major breakdowns with it. Kept regular maintenance on it, the car was just a dud. I wouldn't even recommend this car to my enemies, I'm not that cruel.

Bought this car because I couldn't afford to drive my Tahoe every day anymore at $4.00 per gallon... and Didn't want to give up the utility of the Tahoe. This wagon had 57k on it when I bought it and has 126k on it now. Runs the interstate well at 85, gets 25 mpg, AC is ice cold, heater could be better. Once I got rid of the continental tires and put on GoodYear Triple Treads, this car handles like a race car and will handle all the snow with ease. Have driven to colorado in winter, and florida for vacation few few times and never had any problems. Everything still works. Will keep till it dies!

I needed something cheap right away to go to school and work, so I got this car for $1500, 150k miles, I wasnt expecting much, car drives great, I take it on road trips, I put into it 25k miles this year. I had to change the starter (oil filter leaks into it if not installed properly). Other than that just keep servicing the tranny and engine and this car would treat you good.

Purchased this car used in 2002 with 26,000 miles on it. Now had 185,000 and the engine still runs like new. Still has the original muffler and exhaust system, this is amazing for Vermont. The undercarriage has very little rust. Only trouble spots are the rear wheel wells which nee body work at this point. Front Rotors warp when replace with original equipment, but once I change to a premium rotor from another company, no problems with the rotors. On the whole this has been a great car with low maintenance. Looking to replace with another Ford with the same 3.0 liter 6. This thing is a work horse.

I own a "supposed" luxury car as well as my Ford Taurus. There is no comparison between the Ford and my other car. The other vehicle cost twice as much new and is a piece of junk. The Ford has over 100,000 miles on it and I have not had to make any major repairs. It is a reliable car that is worth every penny that I spent for it.

A reliable affordable family sedan with decent reliability. I bought the car with less than 15,000 on it in 2003. When maintenance was needed the parts costs were low compared to other cars. Styling was blah. I took care of this vehicle with Oil, tranny and antifreeze changes and it took care of me. Only extraordinary repairs I had were a broken rear coil spring. Air conditioning compressor had to be rebuilt at 110,000. Unfortunately the vehicle was rear ended at 122,000 in July 2009 resulting in the ins company totaling it. Otherwise my son would still be driving it. Good value and reliability for the buck.

Just as the title states, the Taurus really exceeded expectations. We almost got in an accident during the test drive when a huge truck swerved in our lane. It handled beautifully, it is surprisingly nimble for a 'large car'. We also get complements all the time about how nice the car looks! I know! It is a basic white FORD TAURUS! We bought it for safety, affordability, and to get us another 100k miles, but we secretly thought it looked pretty sweet ourselves! We would recommend the Taurus to anyone who wants a reliable, comfortable, affordable (and pretty cool)car.

I have a 2001 for taurus se flex fuel, that was a fleet vehicle for the state of Idaho. I bought it at 121,000 miles, and it has a rust pattern under the engine that indicates it has already blown the head gasket. Heard lots of horror stories about Fords, but this car has not had to have 1 bit of mechanic help. It runs great, is currently at 135,000 miles, you'd never be able to tell!! on the down side, Im taking it for an inspection, I suspect some kind of transmission issue. Hopefully its not going out, but It won't surprise me to hear that. my camaro is way more fun to drive, but my taurus great for my 4 year old. love this car.

I bought my taurus used, at the beginning of this year. It was in pretty good condition when I got it, then it started leaking all the time. It turned out it was transmission fluid all along, and this went on for about a week, and when i went to drive it one day, the transmission was just ruined. I had it towed many times to shops and it would be fixed for a short while and do the same thing. I finally got rid of it and am getting a jetta next week. I would not recommend this car to anyone its a piece of junk and will only take money out of your pocket and the gas mileage stunk.

This car has been the most reliable car my wife and I have ever owned. We bought it as a rental return with about 16,000(?) miles on it. It now has 116,000 miles on it and has not required a single repair. This Ford Taurus has required fewer repairs than the Honda Civic and Subaru Loyale that we owned in the past. The pushrod V-6 in the Taurus does not give hot rod performance, but hey you don't buy a Taurus to drag race it. It starts every time you twist the key, has a huge trunk, is comfortable, and gets decent gas mileage.

Bought this 01 SE in Feb 2008 with 103K Miles. Now have 140K Miles on it and it still runs excellent! Gas mileage is around 25 MPG and I am a little heavy with the right foot. I was always a little skeptical of buying a used car, but this one has proved me wrong. It was well serviced from the beginning and the only problem I had was the need to replace the front springs on the car at about 136K. Even with the miles on the car, it still runs great and is not burning any oil. I would highly recommend this vehicle for a daily commuter car. It is not a bundle of power, but it will run 65-70 all day long. I am commutting 100 miles per day and it has not let me down. Very well built car.

Did review at 220,000 miles and had few problems, mainly front brake rotors. No matter what brand they still seem to want to warp. This gives pulsation while braking. At almost 275,000 miles had to replace the serpentine belt and radiator hoses. Still getting 27 mpg. A friend of mine has a 2000 model and has had many more repairs than mine with only 120,000 miles.

A Duratec Taurus is the only one to own.

I purchased my '01 SES 24v in September of '02. I have had amazingly trouble-free miles (148k currently!). I upgraded the springs/struts (that was a personal choice), but other than that, nothing major has gone wrong. The key to these cars -- any car, for that matter -- is to perform maintenance on schedule religiously. I have reduced the transmission fluid interval to 20k, as these transmissions are a known weak spot. Around town, I drive this car with the transmission in Drive, not Overdrive, and that seems to have made a big difference in the performance of the transmission. The Duratec motor (24v DOHC) is far superior to the Vulcan (12v SOHC) in both performance and mpg.

I bought my 2001 Taurus SES used at 10K miles from a KS dealership. CARFAX reported car was a former rental in Hawaii. Had no probs until within last 2 yrs--the heater completely stopped working (bad heater core), the fuel gage shows max all the time, two light bulbs burned out behind the speedometer, cruise ctrl OFF button won't work, and check engine light that will not go out. The heater core is a $700 fix. I also had hail damage. I traded it in at 96k miles for a brand- new car. Got $1700 for it. The buying dealer didn't know about the heater being broke, nor about the hail dmg...I traded it in during an ice storm; the ice covered up the damages :)

Fantastic car, currently running strong with 278,000 miles. I gave it to my kids to use at 274,000 and wish I was still driving it. This thing has been rock solid and if I could find another one to do the same I would buy it in a heart beat. Simply the best car I have owned out of 11 cars I have had. I typically get about 180,000 out of them before I either tire of them or the costs start to mount - not with this one!

I bought the Taurus in 2001 with 14,000 miles. It is now December 2008 and I still have the car with 112000 and counting. I love the car it gets 26 mpg highway and about 19 in town. One time I had a slight shimmy while shifting so I changed the tranny fluid, fixed it. Replaced the egr valve, turned rotors, changed plugs at 100,000, change oil every 5000 miles (use motorcraft) and it keeps on going. The only problem is that the washer fluid hose is busted, the sway bar support rattles and brakes vibrate. Just had our third child and will likely have to sell it. Sure will miss this one. Can't believe I've had this good luck with a Ford, I used to be a Chevy man. Go buy one they are great.

I bought my 2001 Ford Taurus from the Budget rental fleet with 22,781 miles on it for $12,000 cash. At 123,167 miles I have never had to make a major repair and performed only basic maintenance. It has never let me down so it the by far most economical and dependable transportaion I have ever owned. The body and interior are in good condition and I fully expect to drive my Taurus to at least 200,000 miles. The cabin has more room than any in its class. I am tall with wide shoulders but I still feel comfortable in it. I'll be sorry to see this old girl go when the time comes.

I purchased the vehicle new in September 2001 (right after 9/11 and got it for zero interest) and have nothing but praises for this vehicle. It now has over 250,000 miles and I have only done the typical oil changes (every 7,500 miles-95% hwy), air filters, tires & brakes. Tuneups at 100K & 200K. Serp belt & CV boots at 210K (just in case), and lastly coil springs (because my son drove it too fast over some rough train tracks and broke 2 of them). I routinely get 25 - 28 MPG even with all the miles. I would own another if they all were like mine in a heart beat!

Reliability- in 110K, needed only gas, reg maint, a hose, 2 transaxle seals, and the 'low coolant' light comes on 4 no reason. Build quality is a 9 b/c panels come loose, and cruise button quit. Ext design is perfect. Interior design is str8up. Is A lot of fun 2 drive. Gas mileage is poor, 20 city, 23 highway, and I do 95% highway. EPA is 20/27. Comfort-9 (see below). Performance- 9. For cruddy gas mileage, would love another 100HP, 200 and 24V isn't enough. But I love it, perect family car. Don't care for the Fusion, may go for 2008 Taurus, because I loved the 500, but never got one.

We had a 1992 Escort wagon that ran great, so we decided to upgrade to a Taurus. Shortly after buying it, we inherited a 1996 Taurus sedan that literally fell apart in our driveway (after $5K in repairs failed to fix it). If only we'd gotten that car before the wagon. Since 2001, we've averaged around $3K/yr in repairs, despite being vigilant about maintenance. I don't have enough space to list every thing that's failed, but it includes the power steering, the key system (2X), the brakes, and even the clasps to the CD changer door. Reading reviews, it sounds like we are among a third of Taurus owners who have poor reliability. The kicker--the Escort is still going strong today.

Power and handling are about what I'd expect from this V6. My wife started driving it as a company car with about 6K. We bought it from her company at 36K. Goodyear did all maintanance to there. I have done all maintanence since, Mobil 1 oil. Trans service regularly. The EGR went out at 36K and again at 100K. Three sensors are out now with 107K showing. I had to take it to a shop to replace the serp. belt as there is not enough clearance to put my wrenches on it. Then the belt adjuster blew up at about 60K. Back to the shop. To replace plugs is major surgery. Brakes and suspension have lasted as expected. Locks quit at about 100K. My daughter drives it now so all bets are off.

My Taurus hit 100,000 miles today. It lasted that long. Everything from my last review still applies. I now have another problem to deal with. My low coolant light pops on about once a week. I will turn off the car, and it will not come on (with coolant tank full). My mileage went from 23 to approximately 24.3. The seat quality is still immaculate. I hit a pothole and it put a flat spot in the wheel. My front headlight is still fogged up. I have a good feeling that in 3 years this car will go to my son. Until then or until it dies, my Taurus for me. I will report back at 120-130K. Can't wait until the Five Hundred and Freestyle change to Taurus and Taurus X.

This Taurus is SO better than the late 90's Eclipse one. Had a 99 and it was a lemon. This Taurus is great. At roughly 65K, everything started going. First, my car had been running for 10 minutes, and heard a clunking noise. My rear- right wheel was hot. I called the dealer and they said to refuel with a different gas (huh?) but helped. The next week, the air bag sensor was trashed. I thought about trading the Taurus in for a Freestyle but didn't. THEN, a hose in the engine had shredded its seal, and that was OK, but was stranded at the dealer for 5 days because they didn't have the part. Finally, the front headlight is fogged. But this is the best car I have ever owned. Fords only for me forever!

I bought my 01' Ford in 04'. But within 20 thousand miles I had to put a brand new a/c in it. This vehicle loves to drink gas. The brakes are lousy. I have a 95' base model S-10 and the brakes are better on that truck. Its acceleration is like telling a donkey to "mush!". I wish I would have bought a Corolla because they are more reliable, better on gas and a better sound system. The sound system seriously lacks. I'm 22 and I feel like I'm a 38 year old with three kids driving that car. Ford needs to focus on making their vehicles better. I wouldn't recommend a Taurus to my worst enemy. This car has given great value. It was purchased and used initially as a sales car but soon became the family car due to a job change that supplied a business car. The Duratech engine [24 valve] is an excellent power plant but the transmission lacks some responsiveness to the power. The new 2006 cars with this motor have a 6 speed available which may have helped. I would not hesitate to recommend the car to anyone even with its minor faults. I have performed maintenance as directed in the manual and kept good tires on the car and haven't had to replace any suspension components including brakes in 125,000 miles of 4 season driving in the upper Midwest.

I was very pleased with this car until I had problems with the transmission. With only 31K, A small $4.00 bearing broke apart damaging the entire transmission resulting in $2500.00 in repairs. The transmission shop stated that they had other Taurus's with transmission problems for this particular year. This car has a nice appealing body style, however the curved door at the door handle dents easily when hit from other car doors. I mailed Ford Motor company a letter and asked for a response about my transmission problem, but they never did. Ford Motor company in my view, doesn't care about the value of their customers. I do not trust Ford Motor company, nor will I buy a Ford car again.

Car is ok to drive, dependable, reliable, good gas mileage, pretty decent ride for long trips. Regular maintenance and you will be fine (oil changes, transmission service every 50,000 miles or so). Brake rotors major problem, they warp very easily. Even with them NEW, stopping distance is mediocre, need 4-discs instead of drums in the back. Seats are slightly uncomfortable; I feel the need to adjust the seat constantly. Needs more HP and response to throttle. Also, if you intend to drive this car aggressively beware engine oil pressure jumps up very quickly. Only thing I have replaced is the serpentine belt 117k miles.

I bought this car used at 30,000 miles. Like so many of the Tauruses, the front rotors were trashed and the rear brake components were about ready to go and all needed to be replaced. Have your brakes inspected by a competent shop! The car ran great until the dealer did a tune up. After that point the engine knocked terribly, except with premium fuel and they said there was nothing they could do. On the freeway, it was great, about 28mpg. When I moved to the city it got between 12-16mpg which was not acceptable. Other than that, it never broke down and had LOTS of room.

I have had my Taurus now for almost 5 years. I bought it new with 3 miles on it. since the day I drove it off the lot I have not had one problem with it, other than the normal brakes and oil changes and tires (also I suggest changing the tires to a better quality...it improves the ride considerably). I do however have a strange rattle noise coming from what I presume to be my windshield (right where the dash meets the windshield) and no one can seem to find out how to fix it or where it is coming from! I love this car and my brother just bought a Ford 500 and I would by another Taurus (which I am due to the 251,000 miles on mine). I would definitely suggest this car to anyone.

Bought the car new in 2001. This is the SES model with 24 valve V6, 200HP, center console shifter and 6-disc CD changer. Purchased the car for the following reasons: Quieter on the freeway and $5,000 less than equally equipped Accord, sleek looks, VERY roomy interior both front and back, 200HP V6, leather seats, adjustable pedals, all for under $21,000. Now has 97,000 miles (almost all highway). Reliability has be very good. Brakes were just replaced at 85,000 miles, and fuel pump just died last week. No other problems so far. Engine and transmission still run strong, no rattles or interior noises, after washing it still looks new. Replaced original Continental tires at 60k miles.

My Taurus has to be aligned about every 6-12 months. It is roomy and comfortable and the engine has held up quite well. I'm not impressed with the fuel economy. Be sure and get all rebates and don't pay too much for the vehicle and don't count on good trade in value as these vehicles along with most American made ones do not hold their value well at all.

This is my second Taurus SES. I tried to go to a sports car again and I decided I wanted the Taurus instead. I really enjoy the drive and the way it rides. The side airbags and ABS are very good options to have. My favorite option is the traction control. This option has helped me in some tricky situations especially in the snow. I have never gotten stuck in the snow even when ten inches deep. I will probably always want to have a Taurus until I am ready to purchase a Five Hundred or until I get tired of my Explorer. Leased this new in May/01, had to replace brakes @ 28,000 miles. Rear door panel seperated from door @ 7800 miles. Maintained and serviced as recommended. Have not had any complaints with the vehicle. (That will change with age I'm Sure) Overall this has been one of the better investments in a vehicle that I've made

I drive between 45,000 and 55,000 miles per Year! I love mine. I bought it with 28,700 miles and it now has 124,100+ miles on it. Routine maint. and a sensor is all I've done to this car. It actually has been more reliable than 3 imports I've owned (Toyota/Hondas), and It gives me better gas mileage than 2 of them. Best bang for the buck in todays market.

OK for about six months but then it all fell apart. Car left me stranded on the highway with no warning. Not once but three times. Each time dealer had car for up to two weeks and computer showed no problems. Finally replaced the fuel pump. This year replaced rear brake system (chalk it up to former life as a rental). In past month car died without warning again. Diagnostics again did not explain stall but did need some faulty sensors replaced. The mystery continues. Don't fault the dealer just a bad product. Quality issues and too many cars in market explain poor resale. Grew up in Ford family and I purchased 4 so far but this will be the last.

I love my SEL. It is more luxurious than I thought it would be. I happened to luck up on this car at a used car dealer and I have been very pleased with it's reliability. I considered spending more for an import, but I'm glad I trusted this Ford. It is one of the more solid cars I've ever owned. Fuel economy is decent, as I have the larger engine. Ride is very comfortable and extremely quite and smooth. For the money, the Taurus has to be one of the best deals out there in terms of reliability, fuel economy, comfort and performance. I give the Taurus SEL 2 thumbs up. Nice.

I am VERY picky on my vech. My 2000 taurus sedan I have owned for over 3 years and has performed flawlessly and have been so happy that I had purchased a 2001 wagon over a year ago. That also was an excel. purchase. They are a great value, comfortable for long trips (and I am not a small person), and perform VERY well, although I HIGHLY recommend getting the 24 valve dura- tech.engine as I have in both of mine as they are touted to be extremely reliable. No problems here !!!! PS EDMUNDS NEEDS TO ADD A SES 2001 WAGON LISTING, THEY ONLY HAVE A SE LISTING, MY WAGON IS A 2001 SES

Bought with 18,000 miles and it has been a very good purchase. Very good highway car. Been to Florida 3 times and it proved to be a comfortable cruiser. Better value than friends Camry. Taurus has cost me .15 cents per mile so far and Camry cost .37 cents for my friend. Looking forward to a new Ford Five Hundred next year.

My 2001 SES DOHC was a rental bought at a dealer in 2002 with 23K. Had initial problems with brakes. Had rotors turned, then had them turned again about 20K later. Had fuel sensor replaced under warranty, idler pulley failed around 40K. Has been trouble free otherwise. Not exciting to drive, but is easy. Good smooth power from the 200hp DOHC engine. Transmission is a little clunky going from 3-4. Have 62K now and all is well. Will be a good car for my teenage daughter.

It was a company car. Only repair in 85,000 miles was a replaced oxygen sensor. This car would be a great value for someone looking to buy it new and keep it somewhere shy of 100,000 miles. Never stranded me, always started. Though I don't need one for personal use, I have recommended it to those who ask if I would buy one. Performance/fun to drive not in keeping with an Accord, but is is well above average in all other categories.

This is my 4th Ford. Prior to this, I owned a Bronco, 1997 Thunderbird and a '97 Lincon Mark VIII. The Taurus SEL was a step down from the Lincoln, so I must admit that I thought the interior was rather nice for an entry level car. I was disappointed with the comfort of the front seats(used for long trips). I was also disappointed with the fuel economy. Overall, the car drives very well and has a good deal of power at high rpms, but could use a little more effeciency. I have 30,000 miles now, and I have a strut that went bad, other than that, trouble free.

The taurus se wagons are made fairly cheap. The quality of components that ford usess in thier manufacture is on the low side of quality. If the wagon or sedan has the overhead valve V-6 (12V) Vulcan engine expect lower performance. The suspension and ride quality is on the low side also. The taurus devalues quickly and costs much to own due to the low quality of craftsmanship on the cars components.

Well what can I say? It's a Taurus. Mine does not have the 24valve dual overhead-cam engine w/200hp, I have the 3.0L vulcan w/155hp. Performance and fun to drive aren't the questions you should ask when purchasing a Taurus. I all too often get the feeling that I have rented this car rather than purchased it; it blends really well with traffic and you WILL lose it in a parking lot. It is, however, high quality, extremely reliable and practical although it consumes gas as if it had a larger engine; I am averaging 18miles/gallon. Its a good car for the money but loses value really quickly. Its not the best its class or price range.

As a salesman in the typical salesman vehicle, it did its job. I finally turned it in 140,000 miles later. 3 sets of front brakes, tires, a water pump, and a battery. The original battery gave out after only a year. The front rotors warp easily and brakes heat up too fast in the mountains. The steering wheel squeaks. It was a sled for power and had the turning radius of a truck, but held the road on winding roads. If you want a slow car that looks fast and is reliable, buy one. The price should come down quickly as companies are starting to sell off their fleet vechicles.

I don't like the wider tires either.I have talked to several people who said the car has a light rearend and have lost control in rain and snow because it comes around on you. don't like that either.Probably my last taurus

Since the day I purchased this car I have problems. Starting with dealership, they played with numbers. wrote Ford a few times made several calls but useless. They do not cooperate; have no control over the dealers. A few months later the keyless entry failed, AC fan making noise. The car sometimes hesitiates to pickup. Recently a dealer said it is a fuel filter, cost about $70, but it was not the problem. Complain to Ford again, customer service is polite but dealer again did not care what they are saying and what you are saying. Devalue more that 50% in less than 3 years with 25K miles. I would never let anyone buy Ford if I can.

I bought my Taurus in May of 2001. It would be a great car for someone who dose not drive 40 thousand plus miles a year. Brakes rooters warp too quickly. Had to do major suspension repair at 57000 miles. Windshield started leeking at 82000 miles and caused $747.00 of damage to the electrical system. I travel interstate 90% of the time and feel these are problems that I have never had in a Camry or Galant.

We should have spent time researching about this vehicle. I regret for spontaneous purchase of this vehicle. The most I should have done was waited to purchase either an SEL or SES for the same price or less. Failed air bags during a front impact, clunking noise in front suspension during a turn or braking and worned thread on wiper arm. I'd noticed a poor pick-up during acceleration and the air conditioning pauses during acceleration. To protect us from any future major expenses after manufacture warranty expires, we had purchased an extended warranty.

With the 24 valve performance is still not a word used but the 200 hp will push you up to 60 in about 8 seconds. Not bad but not good. Cornering is ok in this car but does have a problem with body roll. Again this car was designed for the less wealthy older folks.

The new design of the Taurus is a great improvement over the previous generation. Clean, crisp lines abound from all view. Legroom is great, as is the ergonomic layout of all controls. It took no time at all to get used to this car and feel comfortable driving it. As a previous owner of 2 early generation Sables, I can truely say that this car has come a long way. This is basically a great car, very comfortable for our family of four. However, Ford must have miscalculated the city mileage. The sticker claimed 20mpg city and 27mpg highway. The best that I have gotten is 15mpg in the city. The highway gas mileage is a lot closer to being accurate, but unfortunately, my commute is all in town. Great on long road trips.

Looking through the reviews posted across the web it appears that consumers that choose to buy the SEL are better satisfied than those who purchase a lower model Taurus. The Mach audio system is a good choice (relative to the standard audio setup in the Taurus).

We bought our SES with the Vulcan engine, Silver Frost color, a few months ago from an "lease auction". It has (now) 90K miles & because the Taurus resale price is so low we bought it for about 1/3 of new price. The car is near "showroom perfect". If I didn't know the mileage I would think it was new. This car far exceeds all expectations we had of it.....we have yet to find anything we don't like about it!! We have an older Taurus but this SES is Fords finest. We look for excuses to drive it. The only way we would replace it would be to buy another one just like it!

I have to say that this is an awesome vehicle when it's running. After 400 miles the engine needed to be replaced. After that, the starter, fuel pump, several sensors too many other repairs to remember. Has been in the shop about 16 times or more and I have only had it for 18 months. The ride and comfort is better then most luxury models. This would be such a fantastic car if the reliability were better.

I purchased a 2001 SES with the 3.0L 150HP V-6, that was mistake number one,no power to move around town or get on the Highway you have to downshift out of overdrive, transmission does'nt know what to do or how to do it. Plus the brakes suck, they should have came standard 4 wheel disc, I have to press sometimes so hard to stop normally that the ABS system kicks in and throws the family all over the place.Plus my power window is very noisy and the plastic bushings were shot already..Poor valu wait till you trade it in check the papers because there are tons for sale.

Basically, no difference in the 2001 Taurus & 1999 Taurus. Same ride, almost the same look but for a respectable price.

I have had my 1999 ford taurus for two years and since then I have had to buy a $2200.00 transmission, two hundred dollar alternator, $500.00 brake jog and a $100.00 power steering pump. I will never buy another ford.

While the features have greatly improved over the 2000 lack luster interior design. The Taurus has great dependibility. The quality of interior materials used are sub-par I believe a little more effort and this could be better fixed. The clothe seats shed, and the automatic gear selector console is made of cheap plastic the seperates from it's molding under heat. I've noticed a irritating buzzing at highway speeds, it sound like a bee buzzing against the glass. I think something has come loose outside.

It's Hard To Believe it's a Taurus!

I really love my Taurus. I was lucky to be able to purchase the SEL and it is sooo sporty! Everyone comments on how they can't believe it's a Taurus! The seats are so comfortable and there is plenty of leg room in the back seat. I definitely made the right choice when I bought it!

The 3.0 Vulcan V6 engine belongs in a compact car. The pick up is sluggish and it has no top end. Other V6 base model Midsize Sedans such as the Chevrolet Impala and the Dodge Intrepid simply blow you away on the expressways. My 2001 Taurus has had a front end vibration from the date of purchase. After many visits to several dealerships for this and other issues, I've simply given up and decided to live with my regretful decision for having purchased this car. I've had the pleasure of driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala recently, and what an all around positive difference.

Overall the car has met our needs: husband, wife, 2 kids. We drive it all over town and some out of town trips as well. All of us fit comfotably in the car. The price was right. Nice family car. I do not regret the purchase.

The Taurus is NOT just for families!

I'm 20 years old and I'm in love with my Taurus. Folks, it's not just a family sedan anymore. It's fun to drive, it's very responsive and it's all-around cool. Ford did an excellent job when they revamped th body, because it's absolutely gorgeous. The silly bubble light brakes are gone; now the back of the car looks like something more expensive than a Ford. It's EXCELLENT on gas for a V6. I can get a good 280 miles (city) before I have to fill up. It's very roomy; there's ample trunk space...did I mention it's fun to drive?!

The 2001 Tauras SE is the most uncomfortable car I've ever been in. My back actually hurts from sitting in that brick hard seat. Pick up is horrible, I would never try to pass on a two lane highway. I get stuck behind a school bus and I can just plan on staying there. Sound system is pitiful. It rides horrible, you feel every bump and its loud. I have a GMC Sierra truck that rides smoother and is much more comfortable. I hate the tauras and try not to drive it as much as possible.

This is a good looking body style, the interior is basic at best, very hard seats and a rough ride. We just got rid of a 92 Taurus with 153000 miles and runs great. The 92 is also snappier then my 2001. The 2001 has a strange feeling when shifting from 1st to 2nd. It also ate the first cd I put in it, and the replacement radio is on back order. How great. In closing I wish we would of got a Regal or Intrigue.

The performance of my Taurus is awful. When I hit the gas the vehicle always feels like it has to downshift to get going. Maybe this due to my transmisson, it is only my 2nd one so far. This is a company vehicle & others in our fleet is having the same problems. Other than the performance the vehicle is ok. The interior is a little boring, but I can live with it.

Good value and good car.

This car is worth looking. Too bad many people just turned away to Japanese imports. It's spacious, and the engine power is very adequate. Considering the tire size, it is actually very quiet. The interior and exterior design all come with taste. And all of these come with very reasonable price. I will strongly recommend this model as well as 2002 Taurus (basically the same) to any friend who is considering buying a new car.
