I've owned this truck since new, and other then basic maintenance and a tune up at 100k, I've had no issues. Ive got the 4wd with the 5.4 and it's never let me down, fuel economy isn't great but it's pulling a 6700 pound vehicle. I also have a 2005 expedition that has the 5.4 3v. It has 145,000 and no issues at all. Ford builds a great vehicle. I plan on getting a 2016 with the ecoboost in the next few weeks.

The menu did not allow you to select 5.4 l. I purchased with 21k miles and have loved this for over the road trips. I pulled an 8500 lb boat from Wash DC to Key West no problem. At 110k I replaced plugs and three coils not sweat. I did have to have the ball joints and universal replaced at around 100k. She still runs great. Recently got 17 mpg on a trip from Pittsburg Pa to Panama City fl 70+ mph. It now has 153k miles and I have no intention of ever getting rid of it. Have run synthetic oil since purchase and have the transmission serviced on a 40k schedule. Lucas transmission additive makes it shift smooth. Lucas fuel additive keeps the injectors clean.

Ok, I didn't buy my Ford Expedition new. I purchased it used with 24k miles. It is now 2014 and the truck has just crossed 305k. It has been by far the BEST Vehicle I have ever owned. With the exception of normal maintenance and one fuel pump that died at 245K - The truck has always done the job. It has the original transmission and engine. It has traveled From Florida to Texas, up the entire East Coast and with any luck last until 350K. It will be a sad day when it finally dies

I bought my Eddie Bauer 4x4 Expedition brand new in 2001 and have owned it since. I have driven it almost every day in the past eleven years and I keep it regularly serviced. It's paid me back in spades -- I have 287,000 miles on it and it's going strong! I keep telling the local Ford dealership, they should feature this beast in a commercial. It looks like new inside and the only signs of age on the outside is the fact that the bright red paint is a bit faded on the body, but actually a "pink" color on the mirrors. Original gas engine is strong. Still pulling horse trailers and piling the miles on. This truck has been so trustworthy. When she needs a new engine, I'll be there! :)

My family and I are always taking trips from Arizona to California and not once it has broken down. There have been no major mechanical issues. Today I have 210K miles on it and still runs great! I recommended this car to everyone!

We bought our Expedition new in 01 and have been very pleased with the reliability and comfort of this vehicle. It now has 140k and still rides very smooth and feels wonderful. It has been very reliable with regular maintenance performed. My wife has abused this car with three kids and "Eddie" (nickname my kids gave it) has responded with remarkable resiliency. A real feather in ford's cap. I will be buying the 01-03 F150 with the same engine (5.4 liter Triton V8) in a few years after I retire. Eddie has been an extremely reliable vehicle who acts like he wants to run another 100k easy. I will be giving him a tune up soon replacing all the plugs and wires. Well deserved!

I bought this SUV new in Feb 01. It has nearly 200,000 miles and has been nearly flawless. Replaced 2 coils and a cruise control switch which came to a few hundrerd bucks. Otherwise, just standard maintenance. It rides super smooth, has great handling and acceleration,(4.6L) and has nice features throughout. I never dreamed this truck would last this long without major repairs. Ford got this one right!

I bought this used with 11K miles on it and just rolled 100K this weekend pulling a boat to Lake Powell, 600 mile each way. I use this more as a truck than anything else and what a great purchase this has been. It has been great for hauling the family as far as comfort but I'm very impressed with the way it pulls our 22' ski boat. If you take care of it and do the regular maint you can't wear it out. You cant beat it for comfort or workability. The paint still looks great and the leather is still in great shape. I have no plans to sell this anytime soon, there just isn't anything out there that I like any better.

We bought this truck due to our large family, has made several trips between New Mexico and Illinois without a whisper of trouble. The truck is beautiful and stylish, it has the 5.4 liter engine with the big trans for towing, have done nothing but maintenance on it. We had the left rear tire blowout on the highway at 75 mph, slowed down with no issues in handling whatsoever. This is a great truck!

Well I just traded in my 2001 with 89k miles and have been the only owner. I have loved and hated this truck throughout its time with me. The tranny went at 44k miles and I was told thats common on these trucks. I ended up getting a broken stud in the exhaust manifold that was going to be thousands to fix and I was told thats common. I decided to trade it in and I admit was hard for me to do. The poor gas mileage is something I will not miss though.

I bought this car used and drove it only 6000 miles in the 1 year I have had it. The head gasket blew and then out of no where there was a hole in the radiator. I bought an extended warranty but it covered only the head gasket. I only drive it to tote kids around and this is appalling to me. Reliability with only 60,000 miles on it!? I will NEVER buy a Ford again.

Bought mine with 35k miles on it and it's still going strong at 114K. Had to replace ball joints and other normal maintenance items but so far that is it. Tows 2 tons of firewood on my trailer with no problems. Cup holders everywhere, plenty of 12v jacks for gadgets. Roomy and high ride. Climate controls for second row. CONS: The 3rd row seat is neat to have but a pain to remove and store when it is not needed. Some times the accelerator will resist initial foot pressure when it's cold out and the bottoms of the doors are starting to rust (A Ford trait).

We've had our Expidition for four or five years now and it has 158,000 miles on it due to the long trips we take it on. Even though the family doesn't go many places together anymore I still like to drive it, even though the gas mileage is impractical. I just love how comfortable it is. It doesn't get up to speed very fast, but that's not what it was built for. The thing has only let me down once and it was due to a vacuum leak and that was two years ago. Now all I am worrying about is the rear end, which leaks fluid. Other than that it is great for its age, doesn't eat oil and even though the kids gave it a beating, you can't tell it at all.

Purchased in 2004 with 37k now has 81k and is still running strong. I use it for work and decided to go with the Expedition over a pick up to accomodate the family. With the 3rd row seat out and the back bench seats folded down, I have plenty of room for work gear. The kids perfer the Expedition over the minivan for long trips. The engine eats oil.. no leaks or emission problems, just need to check the dip stick a little more often than other trucks I've had. Vehicle has a nice ride but is still a truck. Self leveling system motor is loud and seems to adjust randomly, even when the truck is off.

I'm a big guy 6'4", so the roominess is highly valued for me. It's also great for families and to lug things around. But I now have 125k miles on it and the front and rear differentials just went - $3 grand for that and I just dumped another $1,500 into it a few months ago. A lot of minor things have also gone wrong -- back windshield wiper broke, cruise control broke, cup holder broke, etc. And I am not hard on this car. I baby it. I get 15mpg, so that's a tough one too, but I knew that when I bought it. I just didn't know gas was going to be $5 a gallon!

I love driving my Expedition. People still are impressed by all of its fabulous features. The adjustable pedals are a must for me because I am short. I love sliding into the comfy seats after a long day on my feet, and it is so fun to drive! That's why I call it my "Ex-pi-al-i-docious! When I first brought it home, my teenage son offered to give up his bedroom and move in to my car. He called the third row seat "stadium seating". I have never had a moment of trouble with it, and it still seems new even though I have put 100,000 miles on it.

We bought our 2001 EB Expedition used in 2003, and it had about 20,000 miles on it at the time. Since then we replaced the impossible to balance Goodyear tires with Coopers (like Michelins, only cheaper), and the smooth ride increased 100%. In four years, the only issues we had were; the leveling system went out in the rear, and was fixed under warranty, and the backup sensors don't work from time to time. (They just beep continuously when in reverse) My wife's only complaint is that it drives like a truck (because it IS a truck) and gas mileage only averages about 14 mpg. but hey, you don't buy this car for the gas mileage.

I love everything about this truck except the gas mileage. It is a good family vehicle took 2 adults and 4 kids on a 600 mile trip with pleanty of room. Very reliable, can't complain about the way it handles on the hwy. I really enjoy driving this vehicle. It had 50,000 miles on it when I bought it 1 1/2 years ago now has 89,000 have had very little maint. had to replace 2 spark plugs and 2 coils and the brake pads. Too bad it doesn't do a little better on gas mileage.

I bought this with 47K and now slightly over 2 years later have 110k on it. I kind of have a love hate relationship with this vehicle but the love always wins. It has the 5.8 V8 & AWD and gets lousy mileage, averaging 12.8 with the best being 17 if you are on the highway all day. It is good looking, comfortable to drive, solid as a rock, will go anywhere and every time I look at it I still like it. The negatives are the goofy computer that runs the personal settings for the mirrors and seats which work one day and not the next. The power windows are noisy and there is wind noise from the moonroof. One set of brakes, one tune up and now on the third set of tires since new.

Man, I love this vehicle. I can haul my 25 foot trailer and still bring another six people along for the ride. I own all Fords, and have never owned anything else but Ford, and this goes to show you why I've only owned Fords. The 3rd row seat is great, love the leather, and follows a good Ford theme on the outside; the front looking exactly the same as a Ford F150. It has never let me down for driving through the B.C. mountains in the winter. We usually go from Invermere (in the east Kootenays) to Calgary in the winter for Christmas shopping, which is about 4 hours away, and we can do 100 kmh the whole way, with great traction and handling. Only tiff is the cheap tires.

This is my 4th Ford. I think Ford has a very good quality product. This is a new milestone for me, my first automatic tranny Ford. I bought this truck used in Jan '04 for my wife to drive and it had only 15K miles on it and it was still under factory warranty. Currently: 43K miles. We have driven it on long trips (12 hours+) about 8 times and it makes the trip go so smoothly. The ride is very comfortable and is a real pleasure to drive. I have never had this vehicle leave my wife or me stranded. I LOVE the power and low end torque. I am very pleased with this vehicle. Maintenance: transmission flush $187; oil $360. Repairs: power mirror switch and bubbling paint on hood (warranty)

I had a '97 Expedition which I just sold to a friend; it had 180k and runs great! So, I just purchased '01 Eddie Bauer at an auction for $12.7 with 87k on it. Everything ok thus far, but it does make that loud murmur sound when the suspension adjustment is made when you start the truck. I love everything else but I spent a half a day at the dealership explaining that sound before the Ford representative told me about the suspension.

Big repairs, but we put on big miles, too. We are on our third set of tires. Have had to replace the front hubs at about 160K miles. Amazingly comfortable for a big old tub that's as worn out as ours is. Midway, we had to replace the gas tank because it was warped and that cost about $900.

I purchased my '01 Expedition used, trading in a '03 Honda Accord that I purchased new. The Expedition has been completely trouble free for 8 months, something I could NOT say for my Honda. The Expedition is easy to drive and park, is extremely comfortable, and has all the amenities including a sunroof. This vehicle has definitely changed my opinions on American built vehicles, especially Ford. If Ford continues to turn out vehicles as good as this one I will definitely buy another without hesitation!

I love this vehicle. After test driving 3 other Eddie Bauer Expeditions (two '02's and one '98 model), I settled on the '01 XLT because of its nearly identical options package and $10,000 less price tag. The most surprising thing about the Expedition 4x4 is the fact that it rides like a luxury car, handles like a much smaller vehicle than it actually is, and has outstanding traction (nothing stops this thing). The only thing I could ask for is a little firmer shift from the 4 speed auto-transmission. But then again, I am partial to 400+ horsepower vehicles, and I guess it's not really bad for a bone stock family ride (my 3 daughters and my son love it).

We took delivery of our 2001 Expedition Eddie Bauer 4WD in December of 2000. We have four kids and a big dog so the room was great. We expected the mileage to be a few mpg higher but we average around 13 with about half city and half highway. Nice ride on smooth roads but somewhat of a wallowing pig over any type of bump or undulating road. Corners with a lot of body lean as you would expect from a vehicle with such a high center of gravity and a suspension that is a little soft for a big SUV. Some cheap interior materials. Our only complaint was a failed transmission at 35,700 miles that was not covered under warranty due to the vehicle being over 3 years old. $3000 bill was a shock!

I have thoroughly enjoyed my 2001 Eddie Bauer Expedition 4WD. We live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and the weather can get pretty nasty. I have never felt unsafe driving on any road condition incuding deep snow over thick ice. I love the way it looks and drives. It has all the bells and whistles (except the back-up warning sensor, which I will get next time). It is very roomy for kids, grandkids, and dogs...all at once! I would highly recommend an Expedition as a much better-looking alternative to a minivan.

disappointed that the 4x4 is rough on some of the smallest bumps in the road. other than that it rides like a dream, luxury(leather). i wont discuss the gas mileage, but you dont buy a suv for good mileage. overall this is a very nice truck.

I had a 1995 and a 1997 Tahoe 4WD and had to dump them before the 36000 mile warranty ran out. Liked both of them but they were poorly built and had a lot of in warranty work done, The EXPIDITION seems to be holding its own - I've yet to take it to the dealer for any warranty work. Next visit will report the following: windshield washer indicator give false out of fluid reading; heater strip in back window losing effect; radio was skipping channels by itself, tires are making a thud sound when driving above 55MPH. Small issues when compared to the 2 Tahoes that I owned. Milage is about 14 MPG.

I leased this car for three years. I have been very pleased with the reliability and the strength of the truck. It is also a pleasure to drive. The truk could have more power, but I have the smaller engine. The problem with more power is that I could not imagine paying more for gas. Overall I would recommend this vehicle, but only to people who really need a big truck.

Well hate doesn't accurately depict the way I feel about this vehicle. As soon as we hit 60K everything went to hell. Had to get a new engine, new suspension, new gaskets, radio doesn't like up, CD player doesn't work, had to replace the suspension. Passanger side air bag failure light is on. Being a stay at home mom who drives it to the store and for kids to school and then to see family on the weekends, I don't think we've been horrible to the car. It just is a horrible horrbible horrible car

I bought my 2001 Expedition in March '01. We've had no problems whatsoever. We done the required maintenance through the dealer's garage, and that's it. It's been trouble free, and a great car. This was my first SUV, and first Ford, and I would buy Ford again as a result.

I love this truck. Make sure you get the 5.4L, my brother-in-law has the same truck with the 4.6L and there's a big difference. Yes its a gas hog, but you should know that when you buy one and just accept it. Its comfortable, especially for trips with the dogs and family. Watch your speed cause this truck will move. I would purchase it all over again. No problems with it at all. Fits into our garage with room to spare.

I've owned this SUV since new and am very happy with it. It has the "No Boundaries" package and is equipped with the 4.6L V8. It is a little under- powered but if driven carefully it has pretty good (almost 20mpg avg) fuel economy considering its size/weight. I plan on keeping it for many years and so far it's been trouble-free.

We have had our 2001 Expy almost three years since we bought it new. Only two problems have come up and both were fixed under warranty at a recent visit to the dealer. 1) Rear wiper stopped functioning. FIX: dealer replaced wiper motor. 2) Loss of power when very hot outside. FIX: dealer had an upgraded engine computer chip that seems to have fixed the problem. Our only major complaint: awful gas mileage, usually 13-14 mpg. Goes with the territory for such a behemoth, but poor nonetheless.

Highly recommended

I have not had any major problems with my Expy. It was involved in a transmission, tire and seatbelt recall (but I never experienced any problem) and put in the shop once for sudden race of the engine while idling. They replaced a filter and the problem was solved. I have the 5.4 liter and it has great power and the gas mileage is actually pretty good for an SUV.

29K miles, 1 mo. in shop. Drivers side door rattle from day one. Replaced panel & window track but rattle is back & pass. side has same problem. Steering's very tricky & there's a clunk/pop from underneath car when turning steering wheel. Replaced 2 steering shafts, pump & gear, still having problems. Car idles rough. #8 injector went bad & was replaced along with coil boots. Has died several times, wouldn't start & had to be towed. Poor mileage, maybe related to rough idling & injector problems? Feel safe in it overall, but seems like Ford could have made mine better!

I recently traded my 1999 Durango SLT in for the Expedition, it's a 2001 Bauer I bought it with only 5,500 miles (yes that's 5 thousand)for $26,900! Got a GREAT deal! There is so much more room than the Durango, adults can sit in the back with no problem! And I love the captain's chair's in the center row and the way the captain's chair's fold flat when not in use. The gas mileage is actually alittle better than the Durango, which was a bonus! The leather interior is plush and comfy, great for a long drive. We added an aftermarket dvd entertainment system which really helps on those long drives!

I recently purchased an 2001 XLT 4WD after conparing the Tahoe, and Navigator. By far this vehicle just is easier to drive. It has the power as well as the space. Will pull 3 motorcycles with no problem. Great space for a growing family like mine. Overall a very nice vehicle. Previous purchase was a BMW, still have it but I truly enjoy driving this truck!!! After removing the 3rd row seat, and folding downt the back, I put a couch in it!! Still had a little room!!!

We bought this vehicle in Oklahoma when we both had good paying jobs. We moved to Montana where good paying jobs are a joke. We are stretching money to continue to make payment on this vehicle as we really like it, but we don't know how long we will be able to afford it. Sure hate to trade or sell it. It has driven through ice, snow, fields, and mud since moving to this beautiful state, if you know what I mean. It is not 4WD, but handle itself like with feed bags in the back.

The Ford Expedition is an awesome travelling vessel. It is spacious, distinctive and comes from the factory looking great with chrome wheels, leather, above average factory sound system. The third seat snaps up a lot easier than the newer models (I found in the newer models the third seat goes down easy, but is difficult to get back up). The color selections available make it hard to choose "the right color" because all colors look great. We Love our Expedition.

Ten months of ownership & not a single problem. Smooth engine & transmission. Superb interior space. Would like the 3rd seat to fold below rear area. Removing is a two person job. Traction in northeast snow has been fine. Like the limited slip rear axel. Climate control front & rear is excellent & necessary! Fit & finish is fine. Premium sound system needs manufacturer upgrade.
