I totaled my Pontiac in January of 2014, and was carless for 8 months. I suddenly got a teaching job an hour away, and bought a complete POS Saturn to get me through til I could get something decent. In January 2015, I got my Tracker - DURING a Wisconsin snowstorm. I just love this thing. Reliable, decent on gas, optional 4WD is terrific (which is why I totaled my Grand Am), lots of room, and great for my 6'1" 16 y/o stepson to get to and from work and school when I don't need it. My stepson drove it for the first time in snow today in 4WD, and he just loved it. It buys me SO much piece of mind at night, knowing I have a good winter car in Wisconsin (I adored and still miss my old Grand Am, but would never buy one again!).

I would recommend this mini SUV to anyone with a the need to economize, yet looking for fun reliable transportation. I drove the heck out of this car and over rough terrain even with out the 4x4 feature. Im one of those guys who packs so many essentials in my cars that I could live in them. I recommend the automatic transmission, changing the clutch is such a bother.

I love it, I love it!

It is the best car I have ever owned! I am single, and if a single person can only have one vehicle, I believe it should be a 4 wheel drive. I can get out in the snow, but stay away from ice. I love the way it looks, perfect for hauling stuff around. I've used it as a moving van three times now. I've never had a problem, other than general maintenance; replaced a headlight bulb, windshield wipers, tires, etc. I've never even had to have the brakes worked on. It's absolutely perfect for me. I use it for everything, work, play, church, driving to the beach. And when I take it up to the mountains, I feel like I'm driving a BMW! I am so thankful! Can't imagine why they stopped making it.

I bought our two tone black & Grey Tracker a little under a year now and it has amazed all that ride in it! i purchased way below edmunds private party price with low miles for a 2001 model (60,000) and the look and feel of the vehicle is amazing. My wife always comments on how she feels like its the little-big car! I'm always borrowing the tracker from her to use the cargo space it provides...Foldable rear seats and high roof work for me!

I have loved this little car except for the exhaust system rusted out easily. I can't expect perfection from a car. But GM had issued special coverage with an extended warrany to 10 years or 150k miles for the catastrophic failure of the subframe crossmember which did fracture on my vehicle at 95k miles. Very dangerous. They have not sent me notification of this problem yet, they say they are notifying owners in waves due to part availability. Not smart.

This car survived 2.5 winters in the Albany cold while being driven my a college student. While many friend's cars died due to the cold, my Tracker started anytime. The 4x4 is fun for the mountains, snow and the few times I was able to bring it off-road. The car is roomy for the two people in front, but has little space for the people in the back. I am 6'4" and fit in the car great, but rarely does someone sit behind me. Decent amount of room. I fit a 6 foot long bookcase inside and can handle a queen size bed on the top. I have had to put very little work into this car. Belts twice, alternator, front brakes, and front rotors. Under the hood this car is tight.

My tracker does have 112,000 miles. It is in the shop again today for it's second rebuilt alternator. looking over since bought put about 3,000. in repairs. Brakes have been done four times, including roters. Also both rear brake springs broke and replaced. Belts broken & replaced and had to bypass A/C when broke due to astronomical price to replace. Last week power steering belt broken & replaced. Although it is still limping along, don't see much trade in value left.

My 2001 Chevy Tracker is my very first car. I love the fact that I never have to tuch the light switch. It's a very strong SUV. A couple months ago I hit a guardrail at 50 mph and went across the road into a ditch. It suffered little damage and I was pulled out of the ditch and was able to make it to work about 5 miles away. Compaired to the Expedition that was 400 yards up the road from me which was facing the ditch that had the same sort of accident as I did was undrivable. The accident I atribute to less the ideal tread depth on non LT tires.

I bought this vehicle because I wanted a small SUV 4wd for Michigan winter driving and the price was reasonable compared to others. 95k miles later and no major problems to report. On windy days you do have to hang on to steering wheel tight and watch your blindspots on side and rearview mirrors. Rack and pinion steering is great. Also easy stepping in and out of vehicle. Seating could use a little more padding. Easy to drive.

Live in Michigan and commute 30 miles one way to work everyday. I cannot complain about my little SUV. I have had to replace an engine at about 80,000 miles, but even with a hole in the engine, my little SUV did not leave me stranded. It kept plugging along. I'm not real pleased with the gas mileage. I have to keep it above half a tank or it drinks the gas down something terrible, but then it does have 96,000 miles on it.

I bought this car used in '03 and have loved it ever since. I have had a few costly problems, but otherwise it runs great and is a blast to drive, easy to park, fun off road. The only problems I have had have been at about 30,000 mile the master switch for the power windows broke, cost of almost $300 to replace, but I found one on Ebay for $10! Also I Just replaced the rear brakes, $700 later. I have 60,000 on it now and plan to keep it for at least another 5 years.

My husband and I downgraded from a Dodge Ram, and love our little Tracker. It's a plain model, but its 4WD capabilities are awesome. Since it's so light, it actually outshines many larger 4WDs. Nothing fancy in ours to break such as power windows. CD player and radio work great. Have had to take off heat shield, bolts came undone and it rattled something terrible. We bought it for his commute to work, and the gas mileage is pretty decent! Turning radius is super small, and it zips around everywhere we need to go. I have no worries about our motor; it's the same as a geo prisim, and I know those are spectatular. While it's not a luxury SUV by any means, it is fun, functional, and reliable!

I have had this litte ZR2 for 3 years now and still Love it. I normaly drive a Manual, but got an Automatic after test driving 3 manuals and they did not seem right. I drive to and from Northern WI a lot, and it travels great. Only a few wierd things have broken, master switch for power windows and locks (Over $250 to replace, but found it on Ebay for $10) and a wierd rattle noise from engine compartment, took dealership a week to replace under warranty. Will keep til it dies.

My 2001 Chevy Tracker is my very first car. It is reliable and comfortable. It gets great gas mileage and is very efficient. I love driving to school and practice in it since it is just so comfortable. I plan on keeping my Tracker until I graduate from high school, which is in about two years. It is a great car for young, inexperienced drivers.

I purchased this Tracker to be a second hand vehicle, but with the price of gas the Tracker is becoming my main driver. The only problem I have had with this vehicle is that it is on its third heater core, and if it wasnt for the fact that I have bypassed the core, I would probably be on my tenth. Dealer has no reason for this problem, but has paid for all the heater cores that have been installed.

Live in Upstate NY. Travel a lot for work. Vehicle handles great, good power, parks easy in the city, rides comfortable on long trips. Engine and transmission are flawless. Awesome offroad and towing. Here's the problem...I have had to replace numerous accessory items at high parts prices. Recent parts only expenses: Lower steering arm $400, AC compressor $520, Radiator hoses $38 each, calipers $530 per set. This all happened between 46k and 52k miles. I'm not getting scammed by repair men, I am a DIY type guy, and these items DID fail. For it's size it could get better mileage, 18-20 with minimal passengers or cargo. I'd like to keep it but am afraid of what will break next and at what cost.

A lot of fun for 4x4 in the snow or mud. This car seems a bit cramped at times for an SUV, but is definitley bigger than most cars. Lots of head room. The daytime running lights are nice, but impossible to turn off while the keys are in it ( like if you want to run the defogger at the drive-in). It's impossible to sleep in the back with the seats down if you're 5'8". 80k miles, 22mpg. Changing the oil requires removal of a heavy heat sheild ( not fun ).

I bought my 2001 Tracker 4x4 convertible used with 18,000 miles on it. It has all the power features I didn't care about too. I had a 1993 Tracker prior, so I sought out the 2.0L 4cyl w/5spd manual combo. I cannot speak for the stock performance because within a matter of hours of owning it...I had the Calmini suspension lift and Interco 29" Thornbirds installed. However, the vehicle handles incredibly well off road in 4x4. Traction in 4x2 mode is poor at times due to the lack of weight in the rear. Fun to drive, inexpensive to buy, good on gas, and never been stuck = a winner.

I have owned my '01 Tracker for almost a year, and I would definitely buy another one. It is great on winter roads, but tons of fun in the summer with the convertible top/sunroof. The interior is nothing fancy, but it rides well (better than my friend's older Tracker), and gets decent gas-milage.

I BOUGHT MY TRACKER ALMOST NEW ACTUAL MILES WAS 100 OR SO. I HAVE LOVED EVERY MILE PUT ON IT. WHEN MY FAMILY AND I TRAVEL WE ALWAYS TAKE MY TRACKER. IT'S A LITTLE CRAMPED IF OVER 4 TRAVEL. BUT THE GAS MILEAGE IS TERRIFIC, AND IN THIS TIME OF INFLATED GAS PRICES DO I SAVE THE MONEY. I LOVE THE RED COLOR WITH GRAY INTERIOR, I CAN GO FISHING OR TO THE THEATER AND SEEMS TO FIT EACH SITUATION

I wanted something for daily, in-town commute and occasional 4WD for snow days in Michigan. The ZR2 Tracker has been great! I was a Toyota owner, but opted for the Tracker after failing to find a comparably priced RAV. Very reliable; minimal maintenance expenses. Rear end collision repair reasonable and damage resistant. Cons are low end gas mileage, no intermittent rear wiper, and no arm rest. Not bad! And I bought my used as a lease return.

I have owned this vehicle for 3 years and getting ready to sell, but only because I need a truck. I have not had one problem and is very reliable after 49000 miles. Did great in snow and ice and has pin-point steering. Driver and front passenger seats are confortable, but rear seating is tight, so if you have passengers in the back, you will have to move up in the front which may make you uncomfortable. Lots of noise within the cabin while driving, but these are my only complaints.

A well engineered little SUV and a lot of fun to drive. It will grow on you.No problems-26 mpg on the freeway and about 23 overall.I got 4wd, but consider the ABS instead.I'd recommend the 4 cyl mated with the manual-save $4,000 and sacrifice towing and smoothness but make it up in fun (adventure) and economy. The 4 door wagon isn't huge, but more storage than a lot of station wagons. If you're looking for a practical and reliable SUV that will actually handle off road situations, you owe it to yourself to consider the Tracker.CR has been down on it despite good reliability an crash test results-it's time for people to recognize the Tracker's strong points given $15,000 price.
