16 years and still 100% reliable

I spent months searching for the right W. Texas truck for our MN winters. My 2000 LC had the best Carfax record with timely mainainence and the timing belt just replaced. Driving back from El Paso with the cruise set at 90 it felt as safe as other vehicles at 70. In the five years since, besides normal replacement parts, zero problems. During the worst blizzard in years I rescued a friend stuck in 3' snow before the streets were plowed. With regular all-season tires! 115K miles now and no rattles. Doors still have that satisfying "thunk." The heater is the best I've experienced. My only complaint: The radio sound quality is awful. But I like quiet so will not upgrade. I love that it is wide, but not long. Much easier to park than my full size pickup. My next will be a 2009-10 LC when the depreciate to my budget.

16 years of stellar reliability and value.

I purchased my Land Cruiser new in 2000. It is still giving me near flawless service 16 years later. Beyond routine servicing; tires, gas oil, timing belt, coolant - it has been the most reliable vehicle I have owned in 45 years. I've owned BMW's, Jaguars, Lexus' nothing comes close to this Land Cruiser.

I have now owned my 2000 LC for 7 years; I bought it used with 54K miles. It now has 160K and still runs like the day I bought it. It does get only 16-17MPG tops, but gas mileage is not why I purchased. It is the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned; it's solid, it's safe. I just picked up today from having routine maintenance; my mechanic says there is nothing wrong with it! Change the timing belt every 60K, change the oil every 4K, do a tune up every 75K, use Michelin's and they will drive forever. I have a friend with the same model with >300K and it still runs great! I have driven the Appalachians to the Tetons, on road, extreme off road and it has never let me down! Mine forever!

Bought the LC new in 2000 after owning and being disappointed with the quality of Chevy's for years. I did quite a bit of research and everything pointed to the LC for reliability and ruggedness. It has lived up to its reputation. I've used it for long trips, hauling stuff, going off road in the national forest in northern Minnesota, driving in heavy snow, etc. It is reliable and, after 10 years, runs like new. Have gotten 60K on the Michelin tires.

I bought this SUV in 2000 new. I knew it was expensive compared to other SUV's but my 1996 Chevy Tahoe stranded my family and I for the third time in VT and I was willing to pay more for reliability. Almost ten years later and this is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned. 105,000 miles and it runs and rides like new. Unlike my newer VW Passat and the Tahoe predecessor, the TLC does not leak any engine oil or any other fluids on my garage floor to this day. Only negatives are 16 mpg (no matter how you drive); very expensive parts when they fail; awkward third row seat arrangement; chews through tires at the front end (latest Michelins are holding up better than others). Best SUV!

We've owned this car for over 8 years, it has never let us down. 151k miles and my guess is it could go twice that and still drive like the day we brought it home. My wife's only complaint is she wishes the steering wheel was adjustable. Put the original equipment Michelin tires on it... they will go 60k+ miles.

I purchased my 2000 LC in 2003. Since then with regular maintenance I have had absolutely no problems. I put in a new muffler and exhaust manifold, but otherwise still going strong. I put in a navigation and backup camera, and it acts like a 2006-2007 ride.

I just ordered my third new Land Cruiser (2007 model). At 110,250 miles, my 2000 handled better, drove tighter and was a smoother ride than every test drive we took of other comparable 2007 SUVs. The Land Cruiser has only needed two repairs (a starter and CD electrical problem) all these miles. It has reliably gotten me out of sticky situations numerous times ranging from snow packs in the Rockies to an approaching hurricane on the Florida Coast. The third seats are not as comfortable, but are great for hauling my daughter's middle school basketball team. The seats all easily tuck away in several formations for hauling everything from small trees to luggage. We couldn't go anywhere else.

We've had this car for over 6 years now and it still looks and drives like new. We looked at other SUVs in 2000 but nothing compared to this one, and still nothing compares to this. The only problem we had with this is with the cd player and the brakes. Solid truck.

This is without question the best vehicle I have ever owned. Aside from some small "guilt" at the fuel consumption, the "Cruiser" is rock solid. At 100K miles, it still drives as if it was new. It tows without a sweat, takes the kids and toys to the beach easily and plows through the snow without chains while everyone else around is stopped getting wet. I hope it lasts for another 200K, but I can't see why it won't.

Purchased with 115k on the odometer and never had a doubt it would be a solid truck. Read a zillion reviews online and everyone said the Cruiser was the best. Strong as an ox, can handle car pool when needed and a beast off road. Took in up a 12% snow covered grade in NC. Brother in law's Jeep Wrangler only made it halfway up the hill before sliding back down the hill. Dad's ML350 never got a chance due to his fear of totaling it. Landcruiser climbed to the top without a problem. Of course the hill was so steep that i opted to winch it back down out of fear of sliding off the Mtn side and the ice/snow covered trail. Took 1hr to get it down but hey- Land Cruiser is the king of the hill.

I've had two Land Cruisers a 1997 and 2000, and with out any doubt, the Toyota Land Cruiser is the overall best SUV made today. I sold the vehicles when they had around 100k miles on them. However, I could have kept them for another 100k. Both vehicles were dealer maintained and they never had to do anything other than the routine scheduled maintenance. Everything about the vehicles was quality not a cheap part to be found inside or out. It is no wonder why the UN uses these vehicles around the world for relief efforts rather than the cruddy Land Rover Discovery anymore. By the way, I had a 96 Discovery SE7 and the damed thing started costing me $2000 per repair twice a year after 50k miles.

I just upgraded to the FJ100 from a FJ90 I had for ten years. All I can say is WOW! I beat my old FJ90 up something fierce and it just keeps rolling (250K)...I was thinking of keeping it 4 another 200K miles but a "used" (never off-road) FJ100 got my attention. Needless to say this newbie has exceeded all my expectations in terms of durability, power, and confidence.

If you need one vehicle to do everything this is it! Amenities to spare, great power, comfort, superior road manners for its heft, quiet. The extra fuel cost is countered by its reliability. With fuel costs up the cost of a used one is well worth the investment. Heck, if I can't drive it I'll rent it out as a luxury studio apartment.

Got it for my wife in 2001 and she loved it but wanted a new car with NAV and DVD. Was happy to get her a new '04 Acura MDX since I took over the Landcruiser. Great on long trips, in bad weather and everyday driving. Steady performer that can be driven all day comfortably. Only problem in 48K miles is replacement of rearview mirror. Love the truck

I have had Mercedes, Lexus, Jaguar and many others, but nothing has been as good as my Land Cruiser. It is built well, rides well, holds up well and performs well. It is the only car I have ever kept more than three years and why not? It looks and runs just as it did 4 years ago when new. I will definitely replace this with another Land Cruiser or the Lexus of he same type.

Though it will never be a sports car, it handles quit well with the full time 4WD. The 4WD enables hard cornering with limit loss in momentum, but major loss of rubber. Feels solid and is very quiet doing 80+ mph on the freeway. Not the best-looking SUV, but it has Toyota reliability so far.

Have put 14k miles on this truck since March 03 without a problem except that one manifold was cracked at purchase, dealer replaced under warranty. Added Bilstein shocks which reduced body roll. No comparison to pre-o3 4runnner i owned before. TLC is quick, fast, smooth, stable, quiet. Effortless and fun to drive on sand beaches, logging roads, in snow, rain, and all day driving. Bought off lease at auction for half of cost when new. Don't waste your time with chevys, fords or land rovers. The bang for the buck with LC is big.

My Landcruiser has been a pleasent experience through the first year and a half of ownership. The V-8 delivers plenty of power and smooth acceleration. The ride is firm but very controlled and stable. Handling is good for such a heavy vehicle, and the interior is roomy and comfortable. The fit, finish, and quality are impecable. Gas mileage is not real good, but most SUV's aren't. I tend to keep vehicles a long time, so hopefully this will turn out to be a reliable long term investment.

Almost 3 years of ownership. Total reliability. Never a problem. Use mostly for long trips and the cruiser is very comfortable for long distance driving. Fuel economy is just what you must expect of a vechile of this size, roughly 15 to 16 MPG on the open road at 75 MPH. Bullet proof quality.

I've never had ANY problems since i purchased my LC about 4 years ago. I'm at 50,000 miles, take very good care of the interior/exterior so the car look brand new. I like to off-road and i have never gotten stuck. The one time i did get stuck is because of the lousy OEM tires that didn't get any traction, but my LC POWERED it way out of it. Since then i have replaced the OEM tires with specialty off-road tires. I am so happy with the car i am going to buy it out at the end of the lease, and will be installing a TRD Supercharger along with Bilstein shocks. This car is at home on or off the road, i spend alot of time on the freeway and surface streets.

Finding a 3 year old TLC on the market is a very difficult task it seems like. After months of searching we found a Riverrock Green cruiser. Without a doubt this must be the best looking color out there. Very rare color and have yet to see another in the area. With it being certified with a bumper to bumper warrenty until 100k it is like owning a new TLC for half the price. It is a dream come true to own one!

I'm now a believer in the Toyota legend. I bought my Land Cruiser with 47K miles on it, and it feels like it just came off the assembly line. Not a whistle, squeak, rattle, bump, or other phantom noise or vibration to be heard--and this is over springtime roads in New Hampshire. The fuel economy isn't the greatest but it's more than a fair price to pay for the quality and stability you're getting in this vehicle. For all you hear about them, I doubt the Hummer H2's are really this well engineered and built. And all this for several thousand less than I would have paid for a brand-new 4Runner!

I am beyond analytical...I reveiweed and tested drove everything. i had an BMW X-5 on order and cancelled it. I bought a 2000 L.Cruiser with littel regrets. It doesn't handel like the X-5 but the space and fit and finish won me over. The v-8 is awesome. The weight wears the brakes but will protect my love ones. The way I look at it ..it is a lot cheaper to pay the pump instead of the hospital. This is a very capabel vehicle one that cost too much but is worth every penny.

This is my second Land Cruiser...purchased after owning a GMC Suburban for a year. The ride, handling and build quality is superb. The new V-8 provides more than enough power and I get the same 15 MPG as I did with the 6-cylinder. This car is as comfortable on vacation as it is at the theatre. And, the folding third seats should be standard on every SUV. Like my previous Land Cruiser, it is the best car I've owned - just regular oil changes and brake pads to enjoy maintenance-free driving. At 3 years old, it looks brand new, inside and out...and I couldn't say the same for my one year old GM product. I'll be trading for another when my lease expires.

I bought this off of a lease. The deal was no hassle with the price set at a reasonable 41,000. (Try to buy a LX 470!) With the certified program and Toyota quality I had no fears of "used car" problems. This has been a dream vehicle whith lots of power. Pros: Quality, Feeling of security, ergonomics, comfort, Quiet ride, fun factor. Cons: Mileage, transfer case seal leak (warranty), Mileage, relative cost compared to new High End SUV's, Mileage.
