Buy low miles and look for signs of hard driving. Cruises at 100+ with ease , handles well for an old unit

I bought my car for a weekend convertible from the original owner who used it the same way. It has always been kept in an environmentally controlled garage and dealer maintained in its 41,000 miles . It is good looking, drives well and lots of fun.... when it works. I've owned 60s Alfa Romeos and Ferraris, but none that broke or needed constant servicing like this Mercedes. The transmission module, convertible top computer module, trunk lock, radio, oxygen sensor and dashboard have all died. Did I mention the constant fault lights on the dash? Mercedes says this is typical. I love mine and my wife's Acuras. Each has twice the mileage of the Mercedes and they NEVER break. The ultimate luxury is dependability. If I wanted a beautiful but poor quality car I would have bought a Jaguar. 44000 mile update. I had to replace the A/C compressor and the plastic slot in the dash where I put my sunglasses has cracked in multiple places. The rubber stops for the trunk lid are disintegrating. Rust has showed up on the bottom of the passenger door around the rubber seal, which is really strange since the only time the car gets wet is when I wash it. Two hydraulic valves for the convertible top leaked fluid inside the car and had to be replaced as well as the stainless cables that hold tension on the top. I was advised it is normal for these to fail. Wow, more built in obsolescence. To be fair, the car has never left me on the side of the road, but that's the nicest thing I can say about the reliability. 47000 update - I've had a couple trouble free years which has been nice. I've been able to hop in the car on nice days and enjoy it with no issues. People can't believe it's 16 years old. The styling and finish have held up well over the years.

I have this car for 3 years and is very solid. Lot of power and still feels like new. I highly recommend this car. 110,000 Miles and no issues. I use it on daily basis for everything. Mercedes benz road assistant said the CLK class is the most reliable of all Mercedes and I agree with it. For a V8 23 mpg is really good.

I bought this with 95k miles for about $14k. Now it has 135k. It has been the best car I have ever owned. Fast, safe (a deer hit me and almost no damage), quiet and comfortable. I love it. From what I have read that other Benz' are not as good. One thing to beware of. This is a benz and they are not cheap to maintain.

I just brought a 2000 CLK & I feel like I brought a brand new convertible. I have a ML320 SUV but wanted a 2nd car & have looked at other brand new 08 convertibles that I could have brought for a little more money, however, I would not have gotten the same satisfaction I get out of driving & looking at my Mercedes. It's a head turner everywhere I go. I am the envy of all my friends. I told them that when I turned 50 I was going to get a Mercedes convertible. They laughed because they don't realize that even an older Mercedes is always a classic & you can get them in mint condition. "O'Lordy thank you for buying me another Mercedes Benz.

After owning the car for a few months I have come to enjoy it greatly. When I first got it I was immediately impressed with everything, but a stage of uncertainty came with minor glitches that were cheap and easy fixes (surprising little for a car with 110k miles on it). You will notice the laggish pickup from 0-20 but from 20 on up the acceleration is incredible. Suspension is top notch creating a very smooth ride and aggressive performance. Taking it around the curves is joyful and you cant take it too fast. Very nice bose speaker system. Lots of built in extras are fun and entertaining. It will make it through the snow but not well. Built very well, its a heavy car and feels very safe.

Very stylish and great performance. This is my first MB, a used CLK320. I like the power. Moving from a BMW 525, this car moves like lightning. I was a little disappointed in the 22 mpg city/freeway I was getting, compared to the 26 I got in the BMW, and the 28mpg advertised. The cockpit is a nice fit. The cup holders are awkward when open and the glove comparment can be used for just that - and nothing else. But putting the top down, this car moves like the wind and I get plenty of compliments. One handed convertible process is ok. The V6 out drags anything it comes against, and the suspension tracks perfectly through 30 mph U-turns. I'm sold and looking forward to my first CLK55.

Not a fine wine...

Bought the car used with 104K miles for my kid as I wanted her in a mini tank, along with traction and stab control, side airbags, etc. Just my luck, had to fix almost everything - brakes, rear deck leak, amplifiers, blown speakers, rear antenna, ball joints, dashboard digital metrics (outside temp, gear display, etc) shot, intermit wiper, etc. I think it also just sprung a leak somewhere up front on the passenger side, and I think I just lost the driver rear wheel bearings. I've owned late model American and Asian based cars that never experienced as many problems as this little gem? Also - Bose radio sounds like crud, lots of static.

I have owned a LOT of cars (3 Mercedes) and this is my favorite out of all of them. I love the styling; it seems timeless. Exterior proportions are perfect, and quality is excellent. The interior is laid out perfectly, and the workmanship is Mercedes (i.e. the very best.) Handling is excellent, though a little heavy at low speeds. This car loves high speed cruising. The engine is super. Transmission is the best I have ever driven. Brakes & suspension are very good. Amazing sound system. So far, I have no unexpected maintenance issues (130K miles), but I am using a very small amount of oil. Not uncommon for mileage. Fuel consumption amazing: 31mpg highway, 26-27 average. Zero complaints.

I'll never need another car. I've had this car for years, and never thought I'd like any car this much. I look at other cars, and aside from the CLK55, there is nothing else interesting, including the new body style with the flattened out belt line! Mine just turned over 120k (100k under my foot) and still runs like the day I bought it. I've never babied it, and it consistently performs. Mine's magma red, and when my friends call me snooty, I just tell them it's a Camaro SS for the over 40 set. They're just jealous. You should buy one, too!

I feel very safe in the CLK320. I've owned the car for 5 years and have approx 63,000 kms on it. My family of three fits well in the car. I am 6'2" and I have my seat all the way back, which makes it easy to reach back and put my young daughter's seatbelt on. As she grows into her teens, we will probably go to the S class sedan.

My best investment yet!

This is an outstanding car. I've had no problems with it. The ride is so smooth that I find myself constatly having to check the speedometer to see just how fast I'm going due to being blown away by the smooth ride. For a 2000 model, it's awesome!

I bought this car with 2500 miles on it back in summer of 2000. I put on another 26000 miles the past two summers. The car is a classic. Mine came loaded with nav, orthopoedic seats, xenons and cd changer. It rides like a dream. The brakes are the best of any car I have ever owned. Stopping from 60-0 seems to take place in about 105 feet. It eats front tires in about 16k miles. Gas mileage comes in about 18-21. Its pretty peppy, 0-60 in 7.4+. Engine has a nice growl when accelerating. Taking down the top is easy but not one touch. Sound system could be better, but is adequate. Doesn't matter when you're doing triple digits with the top down.

Love it!

Still gets praise for its beauty whenever its getting gas or valet parked. Only complaint is the occasional over bumps' squeaks, coming from I suspect the convertible top and how it locks onto the frame (my wife insists the noise is from the dashboard). The car is still a dream and even my most obese non front seat passenger doesn't complain about room in the back . In fact it can take two not so big people fairly comfortably in the rear seat.

The car cruises so well on the highway as I head west to Banff and Lake Louise. It is very quiet and handles so well, and it turns heads in the city. I have had the car for almost 3 and a half years and I drive it year round, even through our Canadian winters. The top is so well insulated that you have to remind yourself that you are in a convertible. With the top down, I have people at the cross walks, actually saying "nice car" as I drive by. I didn't expect all the attention in our city of almost 1 million people, but it is nice to know that I made a good vehicle choice when I special ordered this silver Mercedes.

This is a very luxurious sporty car and fun to drive. It will get you a lot of looks. It is very comfortable and the amenities are very useful and well positioned. The throttle lag takes a bit of getting used to and the car feels a bit heavy. However the V8 is generally smooth and sounds great. The AMG55 might be just the ticket but for pure driving pleasure I would pick a slightly smaller / lighter body.

I am a Mercedes aficionado but I am truly appalled by the string of quality issues that have arisen since I obtained my CLK 320 coupe 3 years ago. While I have not had any major problems (engine, transmission etc.), a string of nuisance issues have left me wondering why I don't take an office at the dealership since I have cause to go there every other month with a problem. My list of problems include constantly burning bulbs, several false negative malfunctions on the dashboard display, power windows that sometimes have a mind of their own. All these issues as well as a disappointing stereo system have me seriously considering a switch to oh no!, yes! BMW!

I've had my 430 for almost 3 years and it has driven better than any car I have ever owned. Only problem I have had is one electrical failure with the top, and the ground effects on the front grill. It's too easy to hit those concrete parking barriers. But the car handles flawlessly, has plenty of power for street driving and feels extremely solid for a convertible. Even at 34,000 miles this car still runs like its brand new.

OK, not quite the build quality that you've been led to believe, but the ownership bargain of a lifetime! After 10000 miles, the performance comes on strong, and the whole driving experience improves. Noticeably better when driven hard Trunk is surprisingly useful as long as you pack soft. Without the options, (heated seats, etc) a little cheap inside with obvious 'missing' switches on the otherwise nice black ash console. Pay the money for the multicontour seats...they make a substantial difference in comfort over long distances. Verdict? I have a 2004 500CLK on order!!

I've had a number of problems w/ my CLK 320. There was a serious leak underneath the dash; the driver's door bolts have come completely loose and had to be replaced. The tape deck was defective and had to be replaced. The interior design is very poor, with obstructed vision, bizarre controls, etc. Never, ever would I buy another Mercedes.
