If you are looking for a reliable SUV, that is an actual SUV not the mom-mobiles that are out on the road today; look no further than the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. I have the 4.0L inline 6 engine, which is known for being incredibly reliable, I've owned the car for about 3 years, purchased it back in 13 with just under 90K miles on it for 4K, today I have close to 145K miles on it and runs like a champ. I've put some money into it when I purchased it, about $750 to fix some steering issues but after I got that out of the way it has been a fantastic car. Basically just general maintenance and upkeep. I've put on new tires and brakes, but that comes with owning any car, as well as had a rusty brake line replaced as well as the crankshaft sensor which were both minor and relatively cheap repairs; it is a 16 year-old-car after all so it will need a few things replaced due to the age. The engine is smooth and never has given me any trouble. This car also handles great in poor driving conditions, the only thing you need to worry about in the snow are the other idiots on the road. I am nothing but confident driving in a snow-storm. The inline 6 makes getting stuck quite challenging, I have been in muddy conditions and the Jeep has gotten me out without a hitch. This is still before Jeeps became the luxury mom-mobiles of today. They were built when Jeep built reliable, tough, off-road, road ready vehicles. If you are considering getting one, get one. Don't shy away because the odometer has a reading of 150-200K miles, these are known for lasting well into the 300s. Great car and relatively cheap and easy to find nowadays. There's a reason why you still see a bunch on the road.

This is my first car I bought it on my own everyone told me not to buy it but I did and it was the best decision I've made so far.The gas is not good at all I'm getting around 12 miles to the gallon but it's easy to put 20 in and last a whole week.the interior is perfect and the heater is better than expected. I go off road in just a bout anything since I live with the most bipolar weather in the world. This jeep has lasted me 6 months so far and I'm more than pleased with it I feel like I defiantly got my money's worth being I paid 1,700 dollars for it I can't wait till I put a new motor since the oil rings are going out but for sure keeping my jeep as long as I can.

I guess I got the bad apples out of the bunch. I purchase my 2000 Grand Laredo jeep when it was 5 years old, it have 81,0000 miles on it and from the time I brought it home its been nothing but trouble up until this very day. Thirty days after getting it I had to replace the fluid pump. Anyone can tell you that I take very good care of my cars but I just can't win with Jeep.

I bought this Jeep with 129,000 miles on it now it has 135,000. It is a great SUV. Drives great. The truck sounds wonderful when driving. Never had a single problem with it. It's cheap to maintain. Gas isn't the best but that doesn't matter. I love the interior. Has the most plush, comfortable seats I've ever ridden in and the best part is they're heated. The 4x4 rarely lets me down, always works great offroading. 10/10 would recommend.

I LOVE my 00' Jeep Grand cherokee!

I bought this as my first car, I got it for a cheap price but I was weary when I saw 130k mileage on the odometer. I did my research and asked previous Jeep owners, and I went with their overall responses. They said its has a great engine and transmission that will last for at least 200k miles easily with proper maintenance. I agree with them completely. The car has about 140k Miles on it now and the engine still runs great and quiet like it was still new. It has only been 10k miles, but that's mostly city driving and a couple of 300 mile trips. I have a rattling and shaking in my front end when I hit small bumps, But not all the parts are going to be perfect after 15 years of age. I have replaced the water pump, upper radiator hose, and tie rods so far. Besides changing oil every 3k miles, that's all I have replaced mechanically. I have also installed a higher performance muffler onto my Jeep by choice (Flowmaster Super 44). The Jeep runs amazing and I hope that it goes at least 250k before the engine dies. I live in a major city, So my gas mileage is piss poor (About 10 mpg), but I fill up with Plus so it lasts a little longer than regular unleaded. On the highway I get about 25 to 30 mpg. So not a city car. My interior is tan with brown moldings, the interior isn't entirely perfect but again its been 15 years. Overall an amazing car, a good build and very comfortable to travel with

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo has about 185,000 miles on it and it still runs great! Just had to replace a tire rod and transmission hose recently, The build quality of this car is really good, theres not alot of hard plastics, mostly soft to the touch, the basic 6 speaker sound system sounds AMAZING if you just turn up the base. The seats are comfortable and it drives nicely, it can be slow to accelerate but other than that its great! I would definitely recommend buying one. The only draw back i can think of is when you are going fast like 60 MPH or faster the steering wheel kinda shakes.

I bought my JGC about a month ago and it has 115,000 miles and so far I love it. The CD player has a mind of its own sometimes, but what do you expect for a 13 year old Jeep. I've owned several SUV's and I have to say its been my favorite. I can honestly say I maybe sold on Jeeps. This won't be my last.

I love my Jeep, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I've read a lot of these reviews and most of the complaints are about the dealership's mistakes, not the vehicle itself. I honestly have nothing bad to say about my my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. The 4.7 V8 gives me a lot of power, and the full time 4x4 gives me added traction in any situation. I bought it initially for $5900.00 from a retailer and put another $3000.00 in repairs into it, but since then it's just been regular maintenance and it runs beautifully. My one and only complaint is that the sound proofing could be better. Once you get it on the highway it drowns out the radio pretty easily. My jeep just rolled over 215,000k and it runs better than the day I bought it.

Waste Of Money.

I was given this vehicle as a gift for my first car. Where I'm from the 4 wheel drive would come in handy, so it seemed like a good buy. Well after about a month of having the vehicle everything went down hill. There's about 128,000 miles on it and I've already spent over 4 grand fixing things that have gone wrong. I've never seen a car with so many problems. Maybe it's old age, but from what I've heard from other jeep owners, the grand cherokee model is not worth the money. It's been three months and I'm already looking for a new car.

I had to replace the locks because my jeep has one key hole and that door quit working so I would be locked out for weeks at a time, have to wait for the battery to go dead and triple A to send a locksmith to get me in. The heat coming from under my jeep when it is running is so tremendous I do not drive with my window open and nobody can stand next to it and talk to me through the window without feeling like they are being cooked. My back window does not open and the windshield wiper back there falls off if I try to use it. The heat takes an hour to actually get hot by then its time to get out of the truck and doesn't matter.

I bought my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited in August 2008 and love it. I've only had a few minor repairs done to it. My Jeep is properly maintained with all fluids being checked every time I take it in for an oil change at 3,000 miles. Of course having a son who is a service advisor at a Jeep Dealership helps. LOL We also own a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo which is still going strong at 198,000 miles, and a 2010 Jeep Liberty Limited. We are and will remain a Jeep family. Before our current Jeeps we owned 94, 98, and 2000 Jeep Cherokees.

I have 291,000 miles on my Jeep. Yes, I have had repairs beginning at 120,000 through 190,000. The cost of repairs exceeded the cost of my Jeep. However, I HAVE NO PAYMENTS on a newer car, and in analyzing this expense vs buying a new one, I'm still ahead. Paid 12K and put in about 16k. For the repairs, replaced the CV boot about 3 times, replaced regulators in the front windows, and the transmission at about 240,000. And an infamous rattle in the rear end which finally turned out to be the rear door. Truthfully, most of the cost of repair went to inexperienced mechanics that thought they could fix anything, and knew nothing about jeeps. Its a great vehicle and well worth keeping.

I am the 3rd user of this car. Heated seats & a/c dont work. sunroof no longer seals, power locks are iffy, and previous user had to fix transmission. My feet get hot from engine heat. Replaced the hatchback and hood shocks. I will try to solve the A/C and locking issues. We sealed up the sunroof b/c its a waste anyway - just lets in heat. The biggest problem I have had is the "death wobble". We rebuilt the front-end for $1000 in parts and under a yr later we had the problem again. hubby met a jeep guy and I just bought under $200 aftermarket 2nd steering stabilizer. He was ready to push it off a cliff. I'd rather spend a $1k to get this fixed than to spend another $2k on another vehicle.

I got my Grand Cherokee about a month ago from a wholesaler for $2000. Obviously it was a little rough around the edges with some dents and high miles (180k) but with a new 4.0 V6, this Jeep runs strong! The tranny is stock and shifts cleaner than a lot of brand new cars. For an SUV in its size range, the mileage is amazing. I get about 20 in city and up to 28 on highway. Mine suffered the plague of this model GC with warped front rotors. It was a quick and cheap fix, however, buying one with body damage is a risk, especially around the doors. Being a unibody car, the frame gets bent very easily, which is the last remaining problem on mine. Beautiful interior, lots of space, A+ ride!

I drove this car for 8 years. Regretted buying it after a year. I replaced or had to get the transmission torn down THREE times in less than 80k miles. Twice it was covered by warranty, but the third was all on me. Never got rid of a very loud and irritating sound, and the wiring wasn't ever correct due to manufacturer's defect. I had no less than SIX recalls. Finally, the manufacturer instructed the dealer to put the wrong brakes on the vehicle - discovered when they melted into the wheels during a road trip. Mfr paid for repairs but not hotel stay - we were stranded waiting for parts. Just don't buy it.

I didnt experience any engine problems, any transmissions problems, I performed a tune-up when i purchased it and regular maintenace every 3000 miles..It is true what they say, be good to your Jeep and it will be good to you!!

They were never embarrassed riding in it and I have never had any major work done that either wasn't covered by warranty or was regular wear and tear. My oldest son now owns a 2001 and loves his too. I hope to drive it another 100,000 miles. I replaced my headlights this year and it looks new!

I bought our Jeep in 2001 with 27,000 miles. At first we did have a few problems with it: (transmission modulator valve, fuel pump S/O anti-theft and at 60,000 we had a cracked cylinder head that was covered under warranty). At 90,000 the water pump went and nothing has failed since then. It has 144,000 currently. The transmission fluid and filter were changed every 30,000 as was the spark plugs, oil changed every 3500 (Valvoline 10W30). It has had 3 sets of tires and two batteries. We did have lots of trouble with the front rotors and this was fixed by going to slotted Powerstop rotors and pads. My Wife has been driving the Jeep everyday to work for 9 yrs and it has never let her down

Purchased with 40k miles in 06, currently has about 130k. I have had my fair share of repairs but overall it has been a reliable car for our family. If you have some knowledge of repairs and how to do some repairs you can save a lot of money, if not then you will pay a lot in repairs. I change brake pads twice a year no matter how they look, I change oil every 5k, i clean the injectors about 3 times a year, change plugs every year, 1 new coil pack, 1 water pump, 1 fuel pump, 1 radiator fan relay, 1 starter, 1 serpentine belt, 3 sets of tires, new front differential, 1 left axle, that's all I can think of over the past 4 years, overall a pretty good car.

Bought this with 12,000 miles on it in 2002 and now I have 186,000 miles. It is the 2wd version so it gets ok gas mileage, but not great. Other than a few minor repairs and maintenance, it has not been in the shop. Fit and finish is good. It has been a VERY reliable car. It is fairly comfortable on long trips and has great storage capacity with the back seats down. I love the way the back seats fold completely flat. Holds two dog crates and tons of luggage. The ride is a bit rough and it takes turns like a heavy truck, but other than that is a pleasure to drive. The engine is a V6 and has plenty of pep and low end torque. I don't tow anything so a V6 was fine for me.

Buying any Jeep GC? - reconsider and run the other way. Me, I/ve owned 3 of them - every year the engineers figure out how to make them cheaper. 1993, 1998, 2000 have finally learned my lesson. They are oh so beautiful but what a mechanical nightmare. Yea, yea, yea I know all about maintaining them - simply junk, mopar junk. The paint is world class and that's it folks.

This is pertaining to the limited model with the quadra trac II. Was not a fan of the "all time 4wd". Controlled 4wd seems like it was designed for people who do not know how to use 4wd and need it controlled for them. Brakes were always worn and I was very easy on them. Electronics always seemed to have a problem. The gas line, leak detector, water pump, EVERY seal and gasket, radiator, and lock actuators all went under 75,000 miles. It seemed to have a new leak every month. Parts are extremely expensive. Unknown high pitched wine coming from the front axel. I sold it before I found out what that was. Paint chipped as well.

I bought this Jeep used with only 17k miles and used it for a work vehicle. I drove it up to 1000 miles per week until it got up to about 250k miles. I liked this Jeep so much, I bought another one (a used 2004) in 2007. But I kept the 2000 for use as the wife's daily driver. It is still going strong at 280k miles. The engine (4.7) and transmission have never given me any trouble. Oh sure there have a lot of minor things go wrong, such as the electric door locks, throttle position sensor, waterpump, alternator, axle seals and those kind of things. The only major repairs have been the front differential and the engine computer. Jeeps do require more regular maintenance than some other vehicles

Spent more time in repairs instead of my driveway. Mainly had transmission issues and axle issues. Luckily didn't own it long enough to experience the whole range of issues. Purchased Jan. 07. 13 days later Jeep replaced a cracked head gasket. Then the battery had to be replaced, then the ECU, then the gauges would tick & bottom out even with the key out. Then the tach and speedo stopped working. My mechanic & Jeep can't figure this out. I'm done with Jeeps after this! I will miss some things like how well it turned! the upgraded braking system I installed, the sound system, the way my baby handled in the snow and the lack of a car payment! Darn Jeep!!! :-(

It never left me on the side of the road, but it almost always has something wrong with it. Drivers side window regulator broke twice. It now has 121,000 and has had no Major problems I think this is due to the owner before me taking care of it I have had to replace the radiator and idle air control (the iac was causing it to die at idle) and its due for a tune up I do all my own work so no labor to pay for and most of the time after a little searching I can find the new parts I need cheap oil gets changed every 3k miles with mobile1 10w-30 its had it share of offroad and did well overall a decent vehicle if its taken care of I think I love it and would drive on or offroad anywhere

I bought this truck I loved it in the beginning. Its approx a little over a year and it has done nothing but given me problems. The first thing was the driver side window motor and regulator. That was $330 alone. A couple months later the coil pack was going bad (only four out of the eight) that was very pricey. Couple months later my steering wheel fluid was leaking. Next my radiator was leaking, had to replace that thermostat, etc. Then couple months later got a tune up thinking this would help mileage and help it drive somewhat better. The next day the truck shut off while in park. Thinking mite be fuel pump is why car keeps shutting off (due to bad gas months ago) way to much money for maintenance!

Got this Jeep from a family member in 05. It was great until we took it in for inspection. Every time we take it in it costs us on average 800 to 1000 dollars. We drive very little and it has been garage kept and serviced yearly at least. Our new mechanic just told us the next set of repairs would be at least 1300 for the heater blower or something related to the lack of heat when we set it to the warmer settings. He told us it is something that Jeep should have recalled but hasn't. Also the dealer "fixed" the idle lag but it still dies at stop lights after they said they fixed it for about 500. I will never buy a Jeep product again and we are looking for a Toyota or a Honda!

You see a lot of negative reviews for these cars but I've been happy with mine. It's up to 145,000 miles and have had very few problems. Gas mileage blows, but duh, it's a V8. Also, I live in VT so getting to the slopes in any conditions is a priority and this thing gets the job done in style!

When I bought this truck, I loved it. Since then it has been one thing after another. It started shaking and I found out that the coil packs had to be changed. That wasn't too bad. But then my heater coils and blower motor had to be replaced. That was quite expensive. I can say that it has never left me on the side of the road. That's a plus, but I will never buy one again.

I have had my Jeep in the shop more then any other car I have owned in 25 years! the transmission was bad, the u joints needed replacing at 35k miles its had at least 3 recalls i have taken it in for. The back brake light works when it feels like it. I notice 9 out of 10 jeeps I see also have brake light problems. Now My drive shaft is out! I am not a crazy driver to work and home and occasional vacation. look up recalls for jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo its incredible how many there are. I like the way the jeep looks but will never buy another one.

I bought a used Grand Cherokee about 3 months ago and have had absolutely no problems with it. I bought the V8 and only get about 18 MPG but sold my 3/4 ton suburban for it so the gas mileage is great! Very fast with the V8, have gotten up to 115 in this with virtually no shaking or noises of any kind. I needed a mountain goat for the winter so I can get up the mountain for Skiing and have no concerns with powering through feet of fresh powder.

I enjoyed my Jeep the 4 years we had it. But like another reviewer said, make sure you can afford to maintain the vehicle. I loved driving this car, I always felt safe in it. One problem it seemed with mine was that I always needed new tires. I think I had at least 4 flat tires the years we had it. Not including buying two new sets of tires. The speakers in the top of the dash blew after my husband turned the stereo up way too loud. Finally the radiator and fan blew, then the water pump twice, and the thermostat. (also had to get a new motor for the driver window) Gave up after that.

Purchased the GC with 35k on it. Had to put a new $500 water pump at 36K. Various small plastic parts were replaced in the door locks. At 96k miles the AC only blows out of the defrost. The cruise control doesn't work. The tweeter speakers crackle. On the other hand the 6 cyl. engine and transmission have been reliable with no problems. Power is good and I get 20 mpg on the highway. The V8 version gets 14. The 10 disc player crapped out at 50k and I replaced the radio with a new Sony unit. Installed ceramic pads on the disc brakes second year I had it.

We bought 2000 Jeep with 35,000 miles, and just a few months of owning our Jeep the back window motor broke, then the drive side, then the passenger side. So we have replaced 3 window motors in 3 years costing $350.00 a piece to replace. Then the battery and alternator went. Then we had to replace the front differential bearings. Now 2 days ago we found out we have to replace the whole engine because the rod bearings broke. This Jeep was bought in excellent condition, not a mark on it. We bought it as a family car we do not go mountain climbing in it, we keep it updated with the oil and fluids change. This is very upsetting and every time I think about this it makes me sick in the stomach.

This was my 2nd Cherokee. I have enjoyed driving this car although I will never get a 6 cyl. engine in a car this heavy again. I got great mileage but a little sluggish getting on the highway. The overall reliability has been unbeatable with the exception of the brakes pads. I replace pads about every 15,000 miles. It has gotten me through many Northeast snow storms with solid performance.

Bought this car 7 years ago and it is still running strong! Took it from the east coast to the west coast several times and everywhere in between. It handles great in the snow. Maintenance makes all the difference with this car. Had big problems with the transfer case which was fixed under warranty. Also rotors warped quickly...used ceramic ones and they lasted much longer. Door seals don't fit properly and some transmission issues. Overall, it has started everyday in 100 degree weather or 5 below. Can't beat that.

Good looks and fun to drive but be ready to pay for many visits to the shop. The quality of the parts is awful. With only 40,000 miles I have had to change the calipers and rotors 3 times at $1500 more or less each time. This has been such a problem that there has been a class action lawsuit on it. There have also been many complaints about the fuel injection though I fortunately haven't had any. The vehicle has also had 3 factory recalls. On the other hand it is very comfortable and handles well on the road.

Bought used, private party in '05 w/53k miles. Have replaced water pump and front brakes and rotors. Using ceramic rotors is a big help and so is upgrading the rotors with all of the reported problems. This solves them all. Am about to replace front tweeters. OEMs had problems. Also have a '90 YJ w/263k mi. Jeeps are tough, but they're not perfect. Haven't had a vehicle that was, but Jeeps are among the best out there. Like any vehicle, maintenance is extremely important. In reality, there are a few bad vehicles, but mostly bad owners that the vehicles take the blame for. Use common sense and good maintenance practices and it'll treat you well. Would definitely buy another.

Drives good, rides good, looks good but never too far from the shop. Driver side window regulator replaced twice, fuel gauge replaced, a kit installed on the fuel pump to fix a problem of hard starting, fuel pump quit working, replaced with another pump which quit after two weeks of driving. Radio speakers and tweeters replaced with regularity and finially just pulled dashboard tweeters out because even new ones would only last a month. Strut arms on hood and trunk are junk after about 2 years and I just keep replacing them. These were the problems which were the worst.

It is great car, and fun to drive. It is really strong, and you could rather any other cars with it. The problem that it is going too fast, so you could not feel the actual speed yor are going on, so you think you are going 20 when you are really going 50, so in the curves, you think you will roll over, and that is not something to be ashamed about your Jeep.

It's not perfect, but it's good.

Purchased because a previous Grand Cherokee had over 300,000 miles before it was wrecked. Few problems. Brakes need to be replaced, passenger side heater failed and was expensive to fix. The holders for the hood don't work. Blew both front speakers in the dash. Don't like the fact that the cd changer is in the back. Door seals don't fit correctly. There is an issue with the oil pressure sensor. On rare occasions it says it drops to 0, then the car shuts off, but nothing is wrong with it; if you rev the engine it keeps the pressure up. The gas mileage stinks, but it's a V8 so it's expected.

I love the performance of the Grand. I put in a K&N air filter and Bosch platinum 2 plugs. Handles great. She is a daily driver as I deliver pizza with the Grand; not the best gas mileage but stuck until VW gets fixed. Very comfortable, best vehicle to make deliveries with. I have not had any major problems yet. The transfer case was shot when i bought it and was replaced by the warranty. It does have the mechanical whine and the rotors and calipers are starting to warp, but there is a settlement to replace those now. The transmission does shift funny from time to time and the rear end is starting to groan when making slow sharp turns. She does have 132,000 miles and still running strong.

OK. Where to begin? First the good stuff. The Jeep Grand Cherokee drives like a big friendly Teddy Bear, not like a pickup truck. It looks just as friendly, but I bought the car for perceived Jeep toughness, reliability and quality; however I found the Jeep lacking in those characteristics. Brakes shot at 25K, fuel pump fried at 27K, transmission done at 37K, water pump shot at 40K, persistent front end shimmy not fixed with tire balancing and universal joint replacement, etc. Wouldn't buy another one. The Honda-Nissan-Toyota SUV products are far superior.

My Jeep has been very dependable and fun to drive. I had to replace the fuel pump while it was still under warranty and the water pump after 80,000 miles. I now have 86,000 miles on the Jeep and my only complaint is the noise the rear end makes when you let your foot off the gas. I have used the Jeep to pull a 21ft boat and stumps out of the back yard and it has performed very well. It has also not let me down in the snow when I ski in Vermont and New Hampshire.

Everyone says this vehicle has reliability issues. Although I have had the same problem as everyone with the brakes, I've had no other unusual problem for the life of this car. To fix the brake problem I simply replaced the front rotors and calipers (&pads) with an aftermarket setup and I've had no further problems. The Jeep isn't known for being perfect. A leased '96 Cherokee 4 door followed, not one complaint. I finally gave in to my true desires & bought a '00 Jeep Laredo with 35,000 miles just off a lease. The car was clean with new tires. Have only changed the oil & rotated the tires every 3,000 miles. The car is comfortable, design is simple, had the dealer install leather. It rides smooth, takes bumps better than most cars & handles like a dream. Nothing like a Jeep off road! Only complaint is gas mileage, I average17.6 miles with average driving. Would recommend rear a/c vent. I would definitely buy this car again!

I purchased my first SUV in May of 2003. It was a 2000 Grand Cherokee with 24,700 miles. I had read the reviews about all the brake issues with the GC's and expressed my concern to the dealership. They did not deny that brakes were an inherent problem for that model year and preceding years. He did say however that Chrysler had a fix for them with beefed up components etc. They agreed to redo all the brakes on the car if I were to purchase it. I did and I have had no problems at all with the brakes. The ride is not as smooth as I would like but it is a JEEP. I have been very happy with it!

This vehicle is fun to drive, it handles well, has nice part time 4x4 option -- great for the rain. However it's not reliable, rotors, and pads must be changed to aftermarket asap (expensive). Sensors, relays, and windows quit working way before you'd expect. And I've had serious electrical issues which cause the vehicle to quit while I'm driving (dangerous). Dealerships seems to provide little product support, and manufacturer takes little responsibility. These problems seem persistent regardless of how I take care of my vehicle, or how I drive it. Oh, the fuel gauge and rear gate lock have also quit working.

This has been a very reliable 4X4 that is used regularly off road for work and vacation off roading camping adventures from the deserts of So Cal to the Rubicon trails of Lake Tahoe. Typically tow tent trailer packed for 5 with bikes. Only disappointment was a stuck park/Drive shifter that would not go into park so we could not remove ignition key while on a 2 week trip to Omaha. Still running original water pump, axles, trans and other items that can typically wear out. Great all around vehicle, highly recommended.

Vehicle obviously built on a Monday or Friday. Poor manufacturer quality. Door lock failure ($1775 repair), timing chain failure ($2600 repair), cylinder head damage as result ($1200 repair). Dual heater control blend door repair ($980 repair) all in 2005. Vehicle has 120,000 miles. Chews brake pads like lunch. Will trade in on import vehicle ASAP. Advice: don't buy the Jeep GCL....

The Grand Cherokee had not had a very good rating the previous couple of years. I have only had one minor problem not related to wear -- electronic door lock problems in year 5. Hope every auto I buy holds up this well! Love the ride; much better than my friends' Explorers. Have just really liked everything! Hindsight: Would get the 8 cylinder instead of 6 since gas mileage is almost identical and you can always use the extra power, especially in Atlanta traffic.

This is my first JGC and I really enjoy driving it. It still looks great and the engine runs like a champ (4.7 V8). However, the little problems have added up and it may be time for a change. I have replaced door locks, power seat motors, a water pump, and multiple sets of rotors (brakes are below average for such a nice SUV). My biggest disappointment has been the A/C. It goes out intermittently and the service department can't seem to find the problem. I've heard other Jeep owners mention similar issues, so I think the company needs to address these things.

A 2000 Jeep was the start of the restyle that turned heads along with mine. It's macho, stylish, powerful, and the full time 4 wheel drive is great for those ski weekends, and perfect for the extremely poor road conditions we face everyday. Those pot holes hardy faze the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now, the way you maintain your auto is 90% of the equation. Oil and filter changes are done every 3000 to 3500 miles eliminates 90% of problems you will have on any auto. I know folks who ignore the nurturing aspect of ownership and then blame the manufacturer when they break down, because of the owner's negligence. My Jeep is running like new after 100,000 miles.

This is my third Grand Cherokee. My first was a 1997 Cherokee I-6 Laredo. I sold that with over 125,000 trouble free miles (one water pump). My second, which I still own with 176,000 trouble free miles, is a 1998 ZJ 5.9 liter Limited - The Big Dog. My wife's 2000 Grand Cherokee now has 85,500 trouble free miles on it. She travels 80 miles a day on the NJ Turnpike. I wouldn't want her driving anything else. Period.

Excellent SUV! I have had very few issues with it. Has much better fit & finish then my last SUV (Blazer); also has better torque & control over the transfer case. Could use a little more power; I tow a 3000 lbs trailer a couple of times a year & it does ok. I've taken it off road several times & have had no problems with anything I put in front of it. Will definitely buy another Grand or possibly a Liberty CRD.

I bought a used Jeep, which seemed like a great buy. To my surprise, this one is a total lemon. Everything has been replaced, and it still doesn't work correctly; radiator, cracked head gasket, oxygen sensors, long block engine, transmission leak, persistant coolant leaks. My engine almost seized several times because the coolant leaks so fast. Do yourself a favor and buy something else.

Quality is just not there.

This vehicle is not deserving of its $40k price tag. What a shame because it's a lot of fun to drive when it's not in the shop. With less than 60K miles, this vehicle has been in the shop four times for major repairs, which have included: 1 - Brakes. Rotors replaced 3 times; calipers once. Fortunately all under warranty. 2 - CD Changer. 3 - Driver's side heater assembly failed. 4 - Tranmission Control Module (TCM) needed to be reprogrammed and various other tranmission work was required. 5 - Door Locks failed. 6 - Speaker blew. 7 - Steering column required adjustment. Needless to say, if you decide to purchase a JGC, get an extended warranty! You'll be glad you did.

I bought my 2000 JGC Laredo used last year. Previously, I had owned a 1998 Cherokee, the most basic kind. With the ease of being able to work on the 1998 Cherokee myself, I was a little skeptical of buying something that I may not be able to work on, what with all the do-dads and such. But so far, the only problem I've had with my 2000 JGC has been the brake system. I knew going into the sale that this would need to be fixed. Luckily, the brakes were as easy to change on my 2000 as they were on the 1998. So far, I couldn't have asked for a better used vehicle. I don't know that I'll ever own anything other than a Jeep again. I hope my luck lasts!

I purchased this vehicle used with 96K miles. So far I have had no problems other than the brakes wrapping. However it's a heavy vehicle, and coming from someone who used to drag race, it's really not a big deal; replace the brakes with an aftermarket setup and you are done. I have no complaints with this SUV. It plows through snow, moderate/minor ice and rain like a charm and gets pretty decent gas mileage. I average between 18 - 19mpg with mixed city/highway driving (Nashville, TN rush hour traffic) I've gotten up to 22mph on the highway with cruise set at 75 mph.

I have recently purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. It is almost fully loaded with the 4.7 liter and quadra-drive, and also has leather and heated seats. I'm very impressed with the power and acceleration considering this engine is only 287 ci. Handles the ice and snow with no problem, even with the generic tires it came with. The only thing i can complain of is the whining noise on the freeway.

The vehicle has a excellent general appearance both exterior and interior. Because of the need for a utility type vehicle, the Jeep was selected. On overall usage we rate the vehicle fairly close to outstanding. However reliability is another issue. Problems like coolant leakage resulting in replacing the head to resolve the problem, a minor transmission problem which divulged mismatched parts were installed, differential required total parts replacement. The saving grace was an outstanding service department that did not cut any corners when making the necessary repairs. This is the only auto I ever purchased extended warranty for and was probably the best decision I could have possibly made.

Sporty design, awesome leather interior for those long drives to bike week. The V8 gets about 16-17 MPG as I don't drive that far to work. I called Chrysler customer service numerous times since the problems were never resolved, they refuse to honor the warranty on their own parts. I leased my 2000 JGC brand-new, then purchased at the end of my lease. I had one problem that took a year and 6 visits to the dealership to fix - presented as a problem with the coolant resevoir and ultimately turned out to be a cracked head gaskets. No problems whatsoever since this was fixed. I drive 90 miles per day, mostly highway, and get about 21mpg. I have thought about trading for something with better efficiency or newer and more reliable, but can't find anything I like as much. Only time I have trouble is when the roads are icy (rear wheel drive), but that's my problem for not going with the 4x4. I love my Jeep and plan to buy another in future.

Just based on the brake problems alone, it is time to say goodbye to my Jeep. When htey were fixed the first time, most of it was covered under the warrantty at 30,000. At 60,000, the price went way up and htere was no gaurantee I wouldn't have to replace the brakes again in less then 30,000 miles AGAIN! The AC has leaked twice and the radiator is starting to leak as well. The main compter board went at 9,000 miles on vacation. It took a lot to have Jeep pay for the car rental and delivering the Jeep from Virgina to CT.

This was my first and last mopar product. The jeep definitely needs more Benz influence to improve the product. Good thing that my local servicing dealer takes very good care of me. The transfer case leaked, the electric fan was replaced, the engine stalls and restarts when it feels like it. The brake rotors are too flimsy, I have replaced 2 sets of rotors already. 4 wheel drive works intermittently, has let me down a few times when needed. Not a real bad vehicle, but I'm going back to A GM product, which had much better quality.

Other than usual wear and tear, I have been to the garage less than anyone I know. GC doesn't like to run at 105 MPH on the Autobahn, but it will still maintain the pace for hours at a time. Love the looks when passing the Germans in their Audi's, speed is not always about the vehicle's performance. Love it in the snow, passing the BMWs on the hills. I love my Jeep but it dies sporadically. The dealership 'thinks' it is a connection problem but the $ to trace all the connections is too much because there is still no guarantee that they can find the problem. It isn't the O2 sensor - I tried that after researching the Internet. A needless $300 fix because it still dies. It happens on the freeway, back roads, side roads, no consistentcy. I wish I could get it fixed because I hate to give it up. However, last week it died 4 times on day and 3 the next. It took me 4 hours to drive 40 miles because it kept dying and wouldn't restart immediately.

The automated door locks malfunctioned 1 month after my warranty was up but the service department said it wouldnt have been covered anyway. So it's $350 to fix it. Plus there is only ONE key entry on the car. So after four years of owning it the remote entry doesn't work so just getting in the thing is a chore. I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4WD, I really like the drive and comfort but I am totally irrate about having to get 4 yes FOUR sets of front brake rotors. It started at about 7000-8000 miles and has happened about every 6000-8000 miles. The front brakes pulsate. I spoke to the dealer and they are aware that the problem is common with these SUVs, I also spoke to a customer service directly from Jeep and they said rotors are a wearable item and it must be my driving although a few months later Jeep issued a memo to all dealers informing them that this issue may be happening.

Other than the fact that changing out the rear two spark plugs on the engine is a bit of a nightmare...and that a differential case gasket began to leak...the Grand Cherokee has been flawless. Very stable on rainy, wet streets, good to excellent acceleration and plenty of room for 5. Interior has held up very well...no problems there. All power options continue to work without problem. It never let me down since 12/00. Roominess: I easily transported 5 large dogs & 1 passenger. Easy handling: Temporarily I could only drive with one hand, it was manageable. Relative to height/width handles well in curves; turns tightly, in small areas. Breaks well – very responsive and tight. Gas mileage (use the vehicle’s weight!): 18.6/city. Highway – av. 72 mph - 24 mpg w/o AC, 22.6 mpg/w AC The cruise control leaves a lot to be desired uphill and downhill, where I saw a gain/loss of 5 mph. Both door locking devices went inoperable within 3 years. (1 under warranty, 1 a week after warranty ran out ($160 ea.)

The only thing I have done is change the oil and put gas in the tank. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. I also tow a 2,000lb boat about 15 weekends per year, the in-line 6 has no problems. I went in blind to buying an suv,but after a few different test tries, I decided on a 2000 JGC ltd.v8 w/Quadra- Drive. More for the money, handles just as good as the expensive models. It takes on the deep snow to hard rains as if it were a sunny day.Drives smooth even on the toughest dirt road. The style looks good.Very comfy inside.Brakes good, but the rotors had to be changed already. All in all I still will buy another jeep.

Don't buy this car. I'm on my fourth set of rotors in 4 years. They warp so badly after 10,000 miles that braking over 60mph on the highway is dangerous. My dealership pretends that the problem "happens occasionally" with other 2000 JGCs, but this is crap.

Power steering broke. Shocks broke. Paint and body rusted, repainted. Original tires were bad. Changed tires to oversized Michellin all terrain..Big difference in handling. Sorry.sorry brakes.

I have mixed emotions about my Jeep thus far. With only 37000 miles I had to get a new radiator. The a/c is ave. and I think I have a very small antifreze leak and sometimes the transmission seems to thump when I slow down to make a right or left turn. I really want to like this SUV. I have the Laredo with the limited package that includes the two tone leather seats that only comes with the Overland. In addition, it has the 4.7L engine, electric moon roof, second power seat, crome rims, wood grain dash panel and tow package. It's a shame that this SUV has a reliability problem. Because it has all the features and looks to blow the competion away.

Love it!

This vehicle FIT me, the minute I slid behind the wheel. Everything was within reach, and the steering wheel did not have to be in my lap in order to reach the pedals. I have had no trouble at all with my Jeep. She has performed like a champ, in all kinds of weather and conditions. The only time she has ever been into the dealership is for routine maintenance. I know Jeeps do not have a great reputation for quality, but mine has been superb!

The Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8 4WD is not only super-capable off road, but competent and classy enough to drive around town without embarrassment. It is laden with luxury appointments, comfortable and the right 'size'. The only drawback has been the disappointing gas mileage.

After Merecedes took over Jeep/Chrysler everything started to improve on the american plants of Chrysler/Dodge/Playmouth.... And this is a true example of it... Fun to drive, nice sound system, best 4X4 system in the world (Quadra-drive), I only think Audi QUATTRO is better, but hey they do not make SUVs....

The GJC has an extremely nice styling and is still the best looking SUV out there. The engine is powerful and responsive. Gas mileage isn't great, but not excessive compared to other SUVs. Reliability is high (that might be because they assemble the European versions in Austria), I have not experienced one single problem in 3 years. Inside is prctical, nice, though not exciting. Road holding qualities are below par even though one can reach quite high cornering speeds. There is too much body roll! European SUVs (VW, BMW) are at least one generation ahead in this respect.

It's new to me.

A darned good vehicle to wrap yourself in lots of safety steel. "Built like a Jeep" -- with good reason: it has honorably withstood serious bangups. But...glitches like rapidly wearing brake rotors and transmission flukes make it less than inspirational for assurance of maintainence free driving. Like many SUV's, it seems a bit tippy -- and a whole lot less nibble than a comparably priced sedan. A great car to lease for 3 years...and then let someone pick up wiht repair prices. But...while you lease it, it has a strong sense of encased safety.

When I purchased the Jeep, I thought I was getting a great SUV. Boy was I wrong. I have had power window motors go out, power door locks go out, had to replace the gas tank, had a new power seat and power seat back and don't even get me started on the problems with the brakes on this vehicle. Ask anyone who has owned one, the brakes are a major design problem. Jeep sent a service notice out about a $400 kit to fix the brakes but do they offer to take care of the buyer of their car. No! This will be at my expense and guess what, I'm not going to do it. Stay away from this car. I'm selling mine as fast as I can.

Bought this vehicle with 14k. At 20k, yup, brakes. Dealer did replace them at no cost and brakes have been ok. Door locks broke twice, leaks, weather stripping unglued, bushings, door panel loose, leather seat ripping, vinyl tear, and now rust on upper corner of windshield where roof meets the molding. I've seen this problem on 2000 models. Newer models have longer moldings. Also putting up with some rattles. I bought the Jeep because I think it has great looks and it does handle really well in the snow/offroad. Power is great with the V8. Though the dealer has been good, I don't want to spend my free time at the dealership. So far not impressed with Jeep.

I think that this is a terrific vehicle except for the brakes! Just turned 30K and received my 3rd set of front rotors. Granted, Jeep has been paying for them, but you'd figure that they might want to fix this "little" glitch. Also, I wish that the front seat backed up a little more (I'm 6'3"). Other than that, the vehicle is terrific! Handles Minnesota winters with ease (no small task!) I'll just keep putting rotors on as long as they keep paying for them.

I love this SUV!!! I love the leather interior, the engine (4.7 V8) is VERY responsive, very smooth, althought it likes to consume a lot of gas...(I'm getting around 14mpg on the city...) all the amenities inside are great! to all of you out there in the doubt: go for it, but purchase extended warranties!!

This has been a great vehicle and fun to drive. It seems to accumulate fuel and cause a surge in the engine from time to time. It can jump when it is in drive and standing still. But, it is incredible as an off road vehicle and has very sophisticated traction. We manuevered through 30 inch snow and 5 foot drifts easily, and we played for hours in the snow virtually by ourselves, because no one dared. Great car.

Less than 30K miles and two brake jobs later I went up to the dealer and they admitted that there is a TSB out to rplace brakes, but they do it only in extreme situations (hm, a lawsuit maybe?) and that did not apply in my case. They said it would be justified if I had two brake jobs in less than 10K (sic!) and really uncomfortable braking exeprience or trouble. I gave up. My car was paid off, so I quickly decided to get another one. Can't really be spending $500 on brakes ever year I owe it.

I desperately want to love this vehicle, but 3 brake repairs by 35,000 miles (and another one soon to come) has ruined my dream. Only other problem has been some cheap interior molding/weather stripping on the inside of the door (hey Daimler-Chrysler, time to stop using Elmers School Glue and use some real adhesive). Our lease expires next month. I was tempted to buy it out, but I foresee 1 or 2 $500 brake jobs per year in my future if I go that route. Perhaps I'll give the 2004 Jeeps a shot (at least they give us a "loyalty" discount for being a current Jeep owner).

Our Jeep just turned 73,000 miles. We've managed to put it through some real extremes during the mileage run. Towing in 100+ degree Texas heat, -30 cold in the Colorado high country, off roading to groceries, it has performed flawlessly. The only money spent has been for brake rotors, pads and normal maintenance. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone.

This is the second JCG I have owned. I have had it from 30 k to 48 k in Chicago. No problems so far. Ideal commuter, hauler, bad weather transportation, and taxi cab drag racer. Cleans up well enough for a night on the town. A good friend bought the Laredo version (2001), and it was clearly a Lemon. The in line 6 should still be fine. The people that drive in 6" of snow and want a car feel should stick with the front wheel drive models which should be called SV's or better yet Mini Van. They should save their money and get triple A in case they get stuck in a ditch. Either way they may need to make the call. Jeep has few contenders but many pretenders! Yes I am biased

I can't believe that I actually bought another Jeep Grand Cherokee after the problems I had with the first two. My 2000 has been a supreme disappointment and like many others, I have sworn off Jeeps for good. No more American crap for me. Major brake problems that have now cost me over $800 to fix, locking problems on the doors (a $300 fix), a clunking noise in the transmission and an AWD problem that the dealer seems to think I'm imagining. Jeep should be ashamed of themselves for not bucking up and covering some fo the costs associated with these repairs -- it's going to cost them in the long run.

The factors I used to determine which SUV I was going to buy was performance, reliability, comfort, appearance and value. My search lead me to the Toyota Fourunner and Jeep Grand Cherokee. I wanted a mid-range SUV. Nothing as big as a Land Cruiser or smaller than an Explorer. I chose the Jeep after test driving both vehicles. The Toyota was very nice and I know they are dependable, but price was a factor. I got more for my money and additional options. Three years later, I still love my Jeep and would buy it again if I had to do it all over again1

This is my third, but last, Jeep. This one has been a disappointment from the beginning. In 56K miles, it's had two power window motors, two automatic door lock actuators, a water pump and thermostat, and 2 brake jobs. Jeep admits problems with the brakes via a technical service bulletin, but are unwilling to assist owners in fixing the problem. My dealer says the complete brake fix will cost around $425. The water pump and thermostat, and one door lock actuator already set me back over $500. The window motors and one lock actuator were covered under warranty. The two brake repairs (re-surfacing the rotors) cost around $75 each.

Soon after both window motors in the front doors had to be replaced at my expense. Then the automatic headlight switch went bad causing my battery to be drained, had to purchase new $150 switch and battery. Most recently the back left door automatic locking mechanism is not working. It has been in for service consistantly for the alignment, but the dealer says there is nothing wrong, every Jeep does pull to the right, it has what they call a Natural Drift. Well I have to hold on tight down the highway since it wants to go right all the time. Breaks need to be redesigned, controls, seats are good. Whinning noise in from the drivetrain, but heard that's norm, well I am not sure I would buy this one again. Thinking about writing a letter to Chrysler how dissapointed I am.

This is our fifth Jeep since the '84 Cherokee(which was totaled one night but my wife walked away from.) We bought this used off a lease return with about 21K miles. It now has over 48K and has been a rugged performer driving through some very harrowing winter conditions here in the Cascades; all of it without any major failures of any equipment. Better gas mileage than any of it's predecessors(18.1mpg)with more power than expected. Great visibilty, good road feel: just an easy car to drive.

Fun, Reliable eats gas.

Love my Jeep, and am planning on keeping it until it dies. It is classy enough to tote clients around in and will hold up while impersonating the "General Lee" while off roading. It also seems to look much better when it has a good coat of dirt on it. There is something wrong with getting it detailed.

Well, I bought a 2000 jeep used in August 02 and my story is no different from the others I've read. First the transmission began to slip, luckly the dealership replaced a sensor and it has been okay since. Then I noticed the roaring in the rear which Jeep said there was nothing wrong with the car. It pulled to the right and a special part had to be order to align the vehicle. Brakes!! Yeah, I'm beginning to understand what that's all about. I've had the car four months, replaced the brakes once and can you guess? They are shaking again. From the other reviews I don't think there is any hope.

The Jeep does alot of things well. It is nice around town, very capable off- road and in the snow, and has proven to be more reliable than I thought it would be. My only complaint is the poor gas mileage. It was not unexpected, but nonethless, I think Jeep could do better in this area.

I purchased a 1999 Jeep Grd Laredo in 11/02. In 12/02,5 weeks after owning it, a 4-dr Ford F-350 ran a red light and hit my little Jeep. The air bags did exactly as they are suppose to do. They inflated instantly and deflated just as fast. I have no visible injuries from the air bag, the seat belt or the truck. I just have muscle and back pain. This Jeep saved my life, but unfortunatley I could not save it's life. I bought it for $16,100.00 and it had a total damage of $16,539.+. I will always miss that 1999 but I have replaced it with a 2000 (same color of course). I highly recommend this truck.

Picked up used about a year ago...previously owned by a little old lady who put on 60K in 2&1/2 yrs. Paid 2K under Edmund's TMV. Happy with the quiet, subtle ride 13K later. Avg 17.5- 19.0 MPG per tank, mostly hwy miles. Engine 4.0 powerfull enough (no towing). Comfortable leather seats and fantastic 200 watt Infinity CD/Cassette. Only quality issue has been broken passenger door hinge, wouldn't open - $200.00. Only minor pulsating on braking. Found local repair shop to perform factory suggested maintenance for cheap.

Brake rotor problem at 16,000 miles. The transmission shifted real hard and makes a clunking noise when doing so. I took it to a 3rd party service center and had them do a transmission service on it (at 30,000 miles !!!!) and that seems to have helped. The ignition had to be replaced because the key would not turn anymore. The vehicle also had that problem with the fuel pump where it takes 3 tries to get it started. That was fixed during the warranty by a recall. My next door neighbor had the exact same problems and a couple others. I feel like I bought a jacked up 33,000 dodge aries k car.

There are countless other problems that I have had with this vehicle. Worst craftmenship I have ever seen in a vehicle. I have had two Jeeps prior to this one that did not have problems. I would have bought another after this but will never again buy a Jeep considering the hosing I got on this dud! These need to be recalled (at least for the brakes)

My first was an 88 Jeep Cherokee Limited, the next three were JGC 94, 96 & 2000. Only problem with any of them was AC coil on '96 at 65,000 miles. Had one set of rotors go bad AFTER I had a tire company turn them(ground down). If the rotors warp or need turning, just purchase new ones instead. $10 to turn and only $40 for a new one. Rotors never seem to last after having them turned down, just spring for the new rotors and new brake shoes. Their easy to put on yourself and the entire job will cost $100 and a couple of hours for one set if wheels...as opposed to paying a mechanic shop $300-500.

Never again!

How do I write a description of this SUV objectively? Please heed my words... First, never go tho Borniville Jeep in NH. They should not even be in business. Yes, even buying our Jeep was a nightmare. The Jeep is a Limited GC. We have been back to the Dealer (NOT Borniville!!!) 10 times! YES 10! Brakes, Transmission, Window Rubber, Oil Leak, Shaky Wheels. among others. Oh, and please don't let me forget the Leather Seats. They ripped after (normal use) 22,000 miles. I weigh 178lbs. It's not me... I ordered new ones (under war. thank GOD!) in APR. of this year. 6 months later, they still have not come in. My advice. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR _ DON'T BUY ONE!

I think overall it was a good purchase.

I think the Jeep is beatiful, and it runs excellent. I've kept it in good shape, and pretty much the only thing I regret about it is not getting the sunroof. It has needed only the following minor repairs, so I think the 100k miles extended Chrysler warrantee I got was necessary: some problem with a transmission seal, the lock mechanism wouldn't let me start the car one day, fuel pump needed to be replaced. So only twice in 2 years I have not been able to drive it. The warranty covered 100%. so It was not bad at all, considering this Jeep is an awesome ride, very comfortable in long and short drives,

I'm generally very happy with this vehicle. We have had it for 3 years and over 50000 miles without any problems other than replacing the brake rotors. Our laredo is loaded with options and is fun and comfortable to drive. The stereo is great. My favorite feature is the quadradrive. This system is awesome how it sends power to the wheels with traction. I have tried and not been able to get it stuck in mud, snow and sand. I thought the V6 had enough power until we started towing a boat now wish I had a V8. It's a tough, go anywhere vehicle that doesn't look like a station wagon or minivan with four wheel drive. I paid too much money for this vehicle to be worried about everything breaking. I've had to have an automatic window break and the fuel pump replaced. Now my side view mirror is broken and costs $500 to replace. What's next??!! I'm very irritated that Daimler/Chrysler knows that there are mechanical/design flaws such as with the fuel pump (Bulletin #1400201), and yet they expect the customers to pay for their shoddy workmanship. I really expected a quality,top-of-the- line car when I purchased my Jeep. My Toyota 4-Runner NEVER, EVER gave me any trouble. I will NEVER buy another Jeep!

This model has major rotor problems. 25,000 Rotors ground down, brakes changed 31,000 New Rotors and brakes (I paid 50%) 41,000 Need Rotors and brakes again. (paid by Jeep) Jeep put out a "technical bulletin" so there now is a "repair kit". (I have to pay 50% again) I am not the only person having this problem. Sincerely and frustrated....

My 2000 Laredo 4WD must have been built weeks or months after the ones that most of the reviewers here seem to have gotten. We're at 57,000 miles; live in north-central PA, where we get all 4 seasons. On our second set of brakes. Vehicle does local and long-haul equally well; on and off-road equally well. My daughter recently t-boned someone with it, and after repairs, you can't tell. I was bounced off of the guardrails a week ago at 75, and again, you can barely tell. It, like the 93 Laredo 4WD I bought with 90k miles on it 4 years ago, is a tank. The 93 has 165k miles and just goes. I'd probably get another one.

It's too bad. After owning a 1990 Cherokee Pioneer, I was so excited to finally move up to a Grand Cherokee Limited. I loved the looks (except for the droopy rear-view of the gas tank), and the V-8 really moves. I loved this car. The shame of it is that I am now on a first name basis with the entire service staff of my dealer. Even worse, I am also familiar with a private shop because for all the items that were "excluded in the warranty". I don't have room to list all the problems. I'm glad I leased this car. I love to drive it, but reliability will make me return it. I couldn't imagine owning this car outside of a warranty.

Vehicle four wheel drive is great. I keep up with my brother in off-raod situations where he is driving a wrangler. My only issue was an engine problem that needed four trips to fix. As it turned out, they replaced the head. It has been great ever since. As for everybody having the brake problems, as long as it is still under warranty, they should be replaced by the dealer. Jeep came out with a new system for these vehicles to stop the rotor problems. Both a friend of mine and myself took our vehicles back to the Jeep dealership and complained aobut them. They replaced the brake system with out any further questions.

I was actual told that oil seeping from my engine was "normal" even though no one else seems to have the same problem. The steering stabilizer bolt almost came out. The track arm bolt DID come out (fixed at my expense. Even with an extended warranty.) Alternate dealership replaced oil pan gasket but did not tighten all the bolts when reassembling oil pan. This is my fifth Jeep product and the only one I have been less than pleased with. Today I had my brake rotors resurfaced for the second time (22k miles) which were shaking the vehicle when I braked. Transmission whines at highway speeds and drivers window clicks going up. Air conditioning is just ok, nothing like the old Grand Wagoneers and the wheels won't stay clean more than a day. I have tried to love this vehicle but can only manage to just like it ok. Have friends with similar Grand Cherokees and similar problems. My wifes 2001 Cherokee Limited is vastly superior in quality if not ride and comfort.

I have had many makes of automobiles Japanese, German and American but this is the most problematic of them all. I purchased a Limited 4X4 with all the goodies, V8, Quadratrac etc,etc... The brakes have been among the worst I have ever owned needing replacement before 15K miles. The transmission has a mind of it's own, clunking off downshifts at slow speed and upshifting harshly when cold. The electrical system has been a nightmare randomly flashing the headlights when the vehicle is unattended. I should have done my homework before I purchased this vehicle. Shame on me!

I LEASED MY GRAND CHEROKEE OVER TWO YEARS AGO. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A BETTER VEHICLE IN MY LIFE. I HAVE HAD ONE SERVICE VISIT BESIDES REGULAR MAINTENANCE STOPS, AND THAT WAS TO FIX THE ASH TRAY. IF THEY ONLY CAME WITH AN OPTIONAL 3RD SEAT AND WERE A LITTLE BIGGER I WOULD NEVER OWN ANYTHING ELSE.

Same problem with brakes as everyone else. The comfort and smoothness of the ride more than makes up for it. Had the usual amount of little thinbgs that went wrong. My dealer couldn't have been any more helpful or customer servicer oriented about tyhe whole thing. I would purchase another one.

The transmission is terrible. It has been at the dealers numerous times because it hestitates and slams into gear. Everytime the dealer "fixes it", the problem worsens, to the point of slamming into gear 2x between 15-20 mph producing a bucking effect. The ackward shifting is more dominant when the car is warmed up & between 15-30 mph. It also has much difficulty switching from Park to Reverse. Although the ride (suspension) is very comfortable, it is offset when you are bumping into different gears. Since the transmission is a costly repair that the dealer's "speciality" mechanics can't handle I wouldn't recommend this vehicle.

Picked up used, pre-owned by a little old lady...really! Recently took care of 60K maintenance at independent dealership, saved 100%-175% off of dealership service quotes. Absolutely love this vehicle! All options except V8, heated seats, and digital heat/ac. Better than Ford & Chevy SUV's (many experiences w/both) in numerous areas. 2000 and forward has been much better for these vehicles. Take care of your vehicle, including ALL maintenance as suggested, don't drive like a teenager, and your vehicle will take care of you.

My first Jeep Grand Cherokee was a 1997 model with the V8. It was a wonderful vehicle except for the gas mileage. When my lease came up I opted for the new and improved version, a 2000 model. This vehicle has been in the shop more times than my previous 3 vehicles combined. The service staff knows my name when I walk up to the counter. I complained enough that Chrysler put new front rotors on my vehicle at 37,000 miles. Other problems to note: power windows, keyless entry forgetting codes, vehicle not starting due to computer system,....I could go on and on. I will never buy another Chrysler product!

I have been holding breath about this car since we 1st bought it since our expectations about car quality have been set by Honda, Benz and other European cars we have owned! Two month ago, my confidence took a beating due to a recall notice that my friend (Jeep basher) called me about. Also, the breaks are gone already at 15000 miles!! On down hill slopes towards Santa Cruz, the car shakes when I press on the breaks to decelerate the car! Granted that my wife is the primray driver and they are torture on breaks, I would have expected a lot more distance with the breaks. The bottom line is that I feel less secure with this car

Same as everyone else, my brakes warped (15k) and had to get them cut. Some annoying vibrations, drive window goes up slow. The a/c comes on now whenever I turn on the vent so I need to get that checked. It's a decent truck, but for the money the quality should be better.

This jeep has been in the shop at least 6 times in 2.5 years. Brakes are the big issue. We have had the front rotors surfaced 3 times in 30K miles. We know two other friends who have Grand Cherokees both with brake problems similar to ours. Chrysler will not warranty after 12K miles. They say it is a wear issue and they are not responsible. My wife drove a Ford Tempo for over 100K miles without touching the brakes. We will not buy another jeep/chrysler/MB due to the poor customer service. The customer service reps have actually told us to go buy other brands because they do not want our business. Also had the power windows repaired/replaced twice.

Generally, the vehicle has been great, very few problems. However, approximately every 16,000 miles the rotors need to be turned due to warping. Dealer says that this is normal and should be done annually. My response was BS. I have 39,000 miles on it and I'm about due for anouther rotor job. Transmission, when shifting into overdrive, seems to slip. I've notice for the last few months the engine reving up when it shifts. Started watching the tach and it also indicates that the engine revs up when it shifts into OD.

I had more problems with that Jeep than any other vehicle I have ever owned. The transmission dropped within the first year along with many other small problems. I am also disappointed at the resale value of the Grand Cherokee. The manufacturer has taken steps to increase their sales while decreasing the resale value. Since I purchased my Jeep, Chrysler has offered a 7/70 power train warranty which I needed on my Jeep and creating options packages that offer more equipment and features for a lot less. I have been very disappointed and I finally traded the Jeep in last week. I am glad to be rid of it.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee, is a nice little vehicle. It has the Quadratrac II, and can really pick-up with a v8. Adding a K&N filter also helps with it, and all around is a great car.

I have a very good lease deal on this vehicle. At the time, I was looking at the Passat. Across the street was a Jeep dealership. I went over and got out with a new Jeep. It costs me $100 less then the Passat, and there is NO comparison between these two. This is a much better familiy vehicle. The only thing going to Passats favor is fuel economy.

Warning! Jeeps are junk! I purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 V6 and had nothing but problems with it. First the braker rotors had to be resurfaced, then the fuel pump, then the passenger side window motor and finally the door locks. All of this within 17,450 miles! This should never happen to a new car with that few miles (Poor quality control).

Brakes are an issue. The rotors on mine went @ 12k miles, as well as a buddy in the office. They covered them the first time, but told me the next time I eat it at $1,200.00. This is an obvious recall issue with Jeeps and they need to be responsible enough to take on the repairs. If not, there are plenty of other companies selling SUVs without guaranteed repair issues.

I bought my 2000 JGC in 12/99 and have been extremely pleased. I now have 58,000 miles on it and have only replaced the brakes 2 times. The first time was due to the front rotor malfunctioning at about 17,000 miles.

Unless you own a company that makes the rotors, this vehicle may be too expensive. I love jeep vehicles, I own a 97 wrangler with no problems, but my 2000 Grand Cherokee has been in the shop for brakes 3 times (12K, 16K 27K) Plus we have started to notice a driveline howl, which the dealer says is normal. Jeep should stick to building just wranglers!

I use to go through about one vehicle a year until I bought a used 1996 Grand Cherokee. I was so impressed with it, that within a year I bought my present 2000 model. The Jeep is perfect for my use. For a SUV, I consider it's 23-24 mpg on the highway a decent performance. Although not a hot rod, it has all the power needed for 99% of the time. Other than the having the driver's power window unit replaced once, it has given me trouble free operation.

Thank goodness I decided to lease! I leased my JGC because I was reluctant Jeep's reputation for poor reliability ("It's a Jeep thing"). I figured that if I leased, all repairs would be under warranty. At 8000 miles the front brake rotors warped. (5 friends with JGCs ALL had the same problem) Coincidence? I think not. I was past the 12 mo/12K mile warranty on the brakes and had to bully the dealer to make the repair for no charge I was assured I would be charged "when" the rotors warped next time. Jeep has ignored this known problem. The dealer gave me some BS about "Seattle traffic" is hard on brakes. Give me a break! My next SUV will be a Toyota Landcruiser.

Do not even think about purchasing a Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have had nothing but problems from the start. The rotors needed to be sanded down at 13k miles (at my own expense), the computer has been replaced, the steering column and ignition have been replace and now the hydrolics on the brake system have failed. If you do foolishly purchase a Jeep make sure to buy an extended warranty with rental car included. You'll need it. You will be driving the rental more than the Jeep. Trust me.

Overall, this is an OK vehicle. My major complaints are the same as everyone elses...brakes warped at 12K, dealer machined for me free but they are bad a again at 24K. Have 26K now and realize Jeep has a TSB otu on the brakes. Dealer is supposed to add a kit to spread the pads further from the rotors and replace the rotors and pads for free. Heritage in Bel Air, MD won't so this for me. Unsure highway driving as steering is a bit loose. But everything else is OK.

Generally, I like the Jeep a lot. All things considered, mileage seems good for this type of vehicle at 18.5 average with a 70/30% split between local and hiway driving. The brakes seem weak, but most new cars do because they use those wimpy organic pads instead of the carbon metallic ones. My rotors warped and had to be replaced in the first 5000 miles (warranty). This was with just normal driving, not with towing anything. The new ones seem better.
