love the car, I brought it two months ago from Melbourne (2014) it only has 150,000kms on the clock. I had to fix the passenger window which cost me nothing, just some time as well as a cracked manifold which we ordered a new one for $150 and some time to fix the windshield wiper switch (stalk), the car came with a new windshield and battery but will need a/c re gassing ($200) it is super comfy and I highly recommend getting one P.S I got it for $1,600AUD

Ok little car. It will be the last hyundai i buy. Problems with it. every 60,000 you must replace the altenator. It causes powersurges and blows headlights. i've had three wheel bearings go out. I baby my car and have nothing but problems. it over heats even though i have changed my radiator, thermostat and water pump, and i change my fluid every year. I now have 260k on it. Head warped at 240k and transmission went out shortly after. Even though I hate this little car it has gotten me through so much as I went through school. You can definitely tell the engine engine is loosing power. Time to get rid of her soon. 6/14/16 It rattles like crazy.. Dont get one. i do have 160,00 on it

I bought my 2000 Tiburon April 2000. It was my first brand new car. All I did was oil changes and gas and go for 12 years and had few problems with it until it died. The car looks fast and is fast enough to pass and get plenty of tickets but will not win any races so don't try. It has been a good car for the most part. The timing belt wore out. Now they tell me it's gonna cost at least $4400 to fix it.

Excellent car, even after all these years!

The Tiburon is an extremely attractive, sporty, and reliable car. I've had to make no major repairs on it at all (still on ORIGINAL clutch) and I'm at roughly 165,000 miles. It is fun to drive and turns heads! My only wish is that it had a bit more power. It looks much faster than it really is.

Bought used in 01 with 8k miles. I have been HARD on this car (2.5 miles of dirt road daily, curvy roads, extremely fast, hit a dear at 65 mph, into ditches, over curbs) and it has held up tremendiously. Has 125K miles now. Have had to do very few repairs. Other than brakes, oil changes and tire rotation/replacement, I have only changed the spark plugs and wires twice, coil once, radiator once, belt once, battery once, wheel bearing once. This car is very reliable, it has never left me stranded anywhere, and mechanicly seems to be nearly indestructable. I couldn't be happier with my car. Even through I have drove the hell out of this car, it still runs great and looks nice inside and out!

Please Consider....

I honestly love the car, how it drives, has awesome a/c, and just a fun car, but it has some major issues. I've read through these reviews and see that people are constantly replacing headlights, which I found myself doing the same. People with wiring problems, which I've had. I've spent WAY too much trying to fix a problem with my car not starting. It turns over only when it wants to. I've replaced the relay wire to the fuel pump, which worked for a while, but now the car is only starting when it feels like it. I've replaced the battery, ignition coil, relay wires. The interior dome lights quit working, and for a long time, my only headlights were my brights since the headlights wouldn't work

This car had persistent electrical problems, and the dealership was dishonest about the cause of them. The car would power surge and burned out 12 headlights, 2 radios, and 3 new batteries. The dealership replaced the individual parts per warranty, but would not investigate the underlying cause. Then, when it was humid, the car would not start. Once the 5-year warranty expired I took it to a non- hyundai mechanic (and my electrical engineer father), and they immediately identified the problem. The specs in the factory for the plating in the electrical system were off, and the connectors would vibrate loose (as evidenced by corrosion) which would cause arcs and surges. I had the car 6 years.

This has been a great car and fun to drive. I got this car it 0.10 miles on it and it now has 305,718.00 and it is just now on its way out. I has just had 2 clutches and one tranny ( 1 clutch and tranny) broken due to a bad shift in to 2nd gear at 80mph. just a great car.

I purchased my car brand new from the dealer in aug 2000. Everything was great I loved the car until it was about 4 yrs old. (I still have to this day) since then I have had 3 transmissions replaced, many tail light wires and brackets (they keep blowing all the time sometimes even 15 min after replacing) speed sensor went on it. The check engine light kept coming on after countless times, the dealer couldn't even fix it but my boyfriend actually fixed it in under 10 min. The very next time it was in the shop the dealer ripped my o2 sensor wires out and my car has been horrible since (they still deny they did it too) horrible service from dealer would never buy a Hyundai again stay far away!

Very nice, sexy looking car inside and out. Pretty good power for a little beast, with good gas mileage to boot. Nice sound system (compared to the vehicle I was driving before). Unfortunately that's about all I have to say in the positive. Around 90,000 miles this thing started to take a turn for the worse. I replaced the transmission (under warranty). It took a month to do the repairs. 6 months later, another transmission (warranty). 4 months after that, another transmission ($2400). 2 months after that, an engine ($3600). Now it needs suspension work, brake work, and electrical work ($1500).

I loved my Tiburon. Well, aside from a few quirky problems. There are some electrical issues, I have blown many head lights. I also have problems with Oxygen sensors in the exhaust system.I have had to have 4 sensors replaced in the last couple of years. My emergency brake cable broke this year with 61,000 miles on the car. (It's 6 years old)It still looks sharp though. As much as I've really enjoyed owning this car, the O2 sensor problem is making me consider unloading it now, for fear of another $210 repair bill, now that I am off of warranty.

Heed my warning! I love this car, but...

I love this car; the style, the way it sits on the road, handles the corners. Unfortunately for me I found out after the fact that Hyundai has some major transmission problems. I bought it at 33,000 miles as the 2nd owner and had a 60,000m warranty. The tranmission started acting up not too long after; losing 1st gear, not shifting out of 2nd gear unless you shut the car off. Hyundai said they couldn't find a thing wrong, until my warranty expired. Less than 2,000 later, they tell me I need a new tranmission. To the tune of $1,700. Now, just 1 1/2yrs, I'm getting rid of it b/c it's doing the same exact thing it did before the rebuild. Love the car but, please learn from my bad experience.

Awesome car!

I purchased my Tiburon new and it's been running great ever since. Fun to drive, excellent styling and the best warranty around. The price was very reasonable; this baby comes loaded with goodies that are standard equipment. Power seats, windows (including side view mirrors). It's got cruise control too. The interior is user friendly with all controls easily within reach. The front sets are comfortable with lots of leg room. The back seat is ok for kids and midgets or aduls on a short hop. A great car for commuting or just for fun!

I purchased the vehicle new. Three years later I have 91,000 miles. I have had to replace a fuel pump and seven headligh bulbs (problem with the manf of the bulbs - not the car). The dealership has been super and the car has been the most trouble free vehicle I have ever owned. I get 22 mph in the city and up to 33 on the highway. I was involved in a serious accident shortly after I purchased it, the car I hit was a Honda Accord who ran a light. I "T- boned" their vehicle and it was atotal loss. The Tiburon had to have the bumper assemply replaced - Total cost $880. Yea, I like my shark.

I bought the Tib new in 2000 as a cheap, fun car to drive to work. It has been a pleasure to own and drive. (More comfortable in town and on trips than my wife's Accord.) I'm planing to trade it in on a 2003, now that the dealers are more reasonable about their pricing.

This car is fun to drive and cheap to buy. I hope this car will last long past the warranty. Over the past three years I have found this car to be reliable, responsive, and believe it or not a head turner. The four cyl. is a little under powered but they fixed that in 2003 with the avail. 6 cyl. The body style is a classic in my opinion.

Bought it brand new in 2000, seemed like a good deal. Sporty, but the interior leather is junk and starts to wear right away. Not comfortable if you are tall.Forget trying to trade it in even at the dealership where u bought it. They will just tell you the market is dead and that they will give you 3000 below wholesale. The paint is garbage too it chips if you look at it funny.Never had any mechanical problems but I only had about 15k miles on it when I got rid of it. Under no circumstances should you pay over DEALER INVOICE for this car! And do not buy if you dont plan on keeping it for a long time.

Well at first I questioned the reliability of Hyundai, so I went around and asked local garages. I found out that in the past pre 90's hyundai was not good at all, but now they make all their parts and rarely have any problems. I owned a Toyota celica previously, and I rate the Tiburon much higher. Much better handeling and accleration. In the summer you will have not a problem with this car, but come winter make sure you have DRY gas. These cars hate the winter. Engine is strong, transimission shifts super quick, handeling is a dream with the suspension being designed by Porsh. I really love this car!

I love this car. I have had numerous problems and I can't figure out for the life of me why I still love it. Having said that let me talk about all the problems: faulty seatbelt and radio recalled, 7 bad headlamps in first year, passenger window stopped/started working, bad relay on fan blower, dead battery at 40K, new battery dead at 42K. I think there is a fundamental electrical problem, but 4 dealers can't find anything. So why am I addicted to this car?? I can't explain it. But I would buy it again still. go figure...

Unique styling and great fun to drive. Bought new almost three years ago as a mid-life crisis car, and it has been an excellent value for the money. The combination of the vehicle weight, powertrain, and suspension system is fabulous, especially when you compare it to cars in its class that cost many thousands of dollars more. I am about to take it in (less than 28,000 miles now) to see what the dealer has to say about a strange "clacking" noise that seems to be emanating from between the dash and the windshield on the driver's side on bumpy pavement. In sum, if Hyundai can build these things just a little tighter, I'd certainly buy another "Tib."

Well I've had this car for 2 1/2 years now. It is still going good. Lots of rattles and problems with dealerships in Canada. I've had a few problems with cracked door panels bad spark plugs and o2 sensors. But I haven't had much mechanical problems. Squeaks and rattles a plenty, actually the car has squeaked from the second I drove it off the lot. It doesn't seem to like the cold of Canada though, the engine idles really rough, the brakes bong and clank and there is lots of squeak in the clutch in the cold. Eveything goes away in the summer months though. I wouldn't buy another one even after the mechanical stability as I find the fit and finish to be sub par.

Purchased this car for my two sons to share at home and away at college. It was their choice as an alternative to a Honda Civic. We liked the cool looks, standard features, price, and the fantastic warranty. The car has been completely trouble free for 2 1/2 years now. When I drive it I am amazed how tight and rattle free it still is. Hyundai has come a long way. Their cars are truly underrated. The upside to that is informed consumers can get a great car at an unusually low price.
