When the S2000 was launched I was fortunate enough to have been working at American Honda's headquarters in Torrance. Knowing that it was hand built along with the NSX in Japan is one thing but seeing first hand how the engineering of this vehicle delivered the highest horsepower per liter of any production vehicle at the time was just as astonishing. I have owned this AP1 for years and have enjoyed every minute of it. The AP1 S2000 have a 9K rev limiter and handle with precision. Buy it for speed, own it for life.

This car is fun to drive but not when it is sitting in the driveway with a need of major engine repair. The reason, the early years have a bad flow of oil. Not quite sure why but apparently the Europeans caught on to this and fixed the problem early on. This car sucks oil. Honda dealerships need to tell people this when purchasing. Honda also needs to make others aware of this situation. Low oil in any engine is a bad thing. Especially when the oil light never comes on to warn the driver.

Stupid me ... I almost bought a Mustang!

This car is phenomenal . It is the most fun to drive car that I have ever driven. It does everything well, it's fast, well balanced, corners like it's on rails, blah, blah, blah and it is affordable and reliable. A combination which is unbeatable.

i bought this car with 100k on it and i have yet to encounter a problem (and i don't expect any considering the accord we have has close to 300k on it with no problems to date.) To be honest i simply cant keep myself out of this exhilarating machine. Every shift is precise, it absolutely roars at 9k rpm (it doesn't scream like others, but i do have aftermarket exhaust), and above that the chicks dig the leather and convertible top. the gas mileage is outstanding considering the performance it packs (usually at least 25 mpg unless I'm really hard on her). talk about bang for your buck...i paid less than 10k for this car and i feel like a million bucks driving it around.

I think I bought a lemon. I have owned hondas in the past but this was a real disappointment. I know convertible tops don't last forever but this thing ripped and is so loud it gives me an ear ache on the freeway. Also when i bought this car not under warantt (ok yes i know my fault) one of the valves was broke. $2000.00 fix. My xenon bulb broke 3x i turned it on and the ride is more bumpy then my previous pick up. I love the looks and pep but reliability needs improvement.

My children are standing in line waiting for me to tire of my S2000. They all think they will be the beneficiary of my mid life crisis automobile. With over 125000 miles I'm still enjoying every moment and every back road we fly down. Oil changes and a security issue with my key starter system have been the only service related issues I have encountered. With retirement looming, my S2000 will even bring additional enjoyment as my wife and I hit the road to visit our grandchildren. The only regret I have is that my grandchildren are not old enough to ride in the front seat. Over regulation of safety concerns prohibits their ability to join me in experiencing the joy of the open road.

I have owned my 2000 S2000 for about a year now. I'm in love! For the price range I wouldn't rather have any other vehicle. One can easily appreciate the engineering hours logged on the design of this car after driving it. It might look fun, but it doesn't stop there.

The handling for this car is amazing for a convertible. The steering wheel and pedals are perfect in placement. The shifter has the shortest throws out of any of its competitors. It brakes 70- 0 in 162 ft. which is in the exotic car range. The only thing this car lacks is torque, but it has the highest horsepower for per liter, 120, than in any other mass produced street car.

I purchased the S2000 used from a friend. It only had 12000 miles on it. I have owned sports cars in the past. I drove a Fiat 124 Spyder and a Nissan 240Z. This car is the most fun you can have sitting down. I find myself looking for places I have to go in order to take a drive. I put the top down even when its cold because it's so much darn fun. If you like a soft ride and a quiet running engine this is not your car. It roars like a lion at 5000 rpm, but so what, if you want quiet there's lots of other boring choices, but you would regret it.

So good I bought two!

I went looking for a sports car in 2000. Drove the new Lexus, Audi GT and Boxter first. Then drove the S2000. Loved every second driving it. Fast, go- kart handling and dependable! I live 50% of my time in England. I went and found a 1999 Red S2000 with 1500 mi's on it (little old lady thought it was too hot for her...sat in her garage). The backroads of England were made to be driven by this car. What a blast! 3 years on with two S2000's (for the price of one Porsche)and not one complaint!

Great ride and just fun to drive. This car demands to be driven, no taking you eye off the road or gearshifter. I also own an old 911 and this is the closest thing I've found to driving it. Wish it had a little more power at the line, which I belive the 2004 2.2 liter is suppose to address. I'm also in the process of upgrading the stereo speakers to produce more fullness of sound (2000 year only had door speakers which are partially blocked ny your legs).

Incredible car all around for what it was made for. Looks, performance, engine sound is perfect especially with an intake, HID's, digital dash, push- button start, good fuel economy, lets you stay in gear up to 9,000 rpm's if you need to, stereo controls very nice and conveniently placed by driver, seats are nice, car feels fast no matter what speed your going and your nice and low. Cornering is superb, you can go 80mph on ramp to highway all the time and switching lanes is nice too. Braking is very responsive. In winter make sure tires have lots of tread or you will be spinning out all over the road.

Driving my car is my favorite part of everyday. This car is everything you could ever want in a sports car. Handling, power, 9k redline, convertible, new technology, and much more... all with an average of about 25mpg. Below 6k rmps this car is great driving, extremely fun, and still has enough power to get you where you need to go. Above 6k rmps (VTEC) is like a roller coaster ride. The car rockets fowards as you watch the digital speedometer climb, the rev limiter lights up and you know its time to shift for another 3k rmps of powerful sounding, head jerking, adrenaline rush.

At least the 2000 and 2001 model have had a series of electrical and mechanical issues. Oil starvation, oil consumption, ECU failure, spark plugs backing out to name a few. Serious issues with bent valves as well. The problems are mostly quality control and design issues (some are driver error). Some of the problems lead to catastrophic engine failure. Honda is starting to deny valid warranty claims for technicalities. Engine repair is extremely costly due to lack of aftermarket parts and low quantites. s2ki.com for other testimonial.

I've had my S2000 since Oct. 1999. It's the best car buying decission I have ever made. It is the most fun to drive vehicle for the money and has been one of the most reliable vehicles listed in Consumer Reports Magazine. Although it is very reasonably price for its class, the limited production by Honda keeps it somewhat exclusive. After over 3 yrs, it's still an attention grabber and still feels just as tight as new. This is a street legal race car. If you want a luxury soft top, get the Thunderbird or Merc SLK. If you love to drive (turn corners & stuff), this is your car.

Incredible car for a sports car-most amazing 4cyll and I beat 8cyll. ugly mustangs gt's all the time--just like a nice car like this should. Should make it with a permanent non- convertible option which will also keep the weight down-it's heavier than it looks. Engine sounds incredible. Car was once mistaken for an exotic car and not a honda. Supercharged option should be considered for rediculous speed. Nice controls and dash board-car is a little cramped but you can expect that.

to drive this car is to love it. it's chassis is extremely rigid, the steering is fast, the brakes grab and don't let go, the sound of engine spinning at 9000 rpm makes you shiver and i dare you, i double dare you to find a more direct and precise shifter for in a car less the 100K dollars. i must warn you that it is a purists sports car (for the most part) it rides very stiff, it's noisy and interior storage is a joke. lets not forget the good gas mileage (27+ on my car) excellent reliablity history and resale value

Coolest car I've ever seen and/or driven. Handles impeccably. the car cas often gotten knocked for not having much low-end power, but I think that is a plus as it makes driving in stop-and- go traffic much easier...and the "juice" is definitely there when you need it. I wish I oculd have two of them...one to drive to death, and one to just look at every day!

Honda really outdid themselves with this car. There is nothing like it on the road. When the VTEC kicks in at 6000 RPM, you get a kick in the A$$ that stays with you until you redline at 8900RPM. What other car allows you to go 63mph in second gear and be able to maintain that speed without damaging the engine? I'm not sure how fast it will go, but I do know the self test of the driver's all digital display shows a 2 as the first digit of the three digit speedometer.

this little car is amazing. although priced at least 10 grand less then it's competiton (audi tt, bmw z3, mercedes slk, porsche boxster) it performs as well if not better. no it does not have the "prestige" but who cares? the only complaints i have is the weak stereo, made worse by the fact my left thigh blocks the door speaker and i would like a little more shoulder support in the otherwise awesome seats.

would I rather have a porche?

i was going to buy a boxster s before I drove the S2000. I had been driving a Z3 2.8 when I test drove the Honda. After driving the Honda, the Z3 felt like a truck. The car is solid, fast, comfortable and very reliable. All I have done is change oil and tires. The bimmer was always in the shop for one little thing or the other. Not this car. Would I rather have a porche? Well, the boxster may have more cachet, but nothing drives like the S2000.

This convertible is just the ticket if you are really into driving. It has loads of power and an agile chassis designed to let you extract as much fun as possible out of your car. However, if you want a smooth ride with little road feedback, if you want to climb up into the car instead of settling into a cockpit, if you don't know what drop- throttle oversteer is, then you may want to look at a less enthusiast- oriented roadster. The Audi TT comes to mind :).

This car is great to drive on winding back roads, over rolling hills and mountains and along flat stretches of beach or expressway....yes, anywhere. It takes corners perfectly. Can get great gas mileage if not pushed....28-30 mpg. If pushed,it can rocket from 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds. The S-2000 is pure fun.

One great roadster

This car is a blast! Drives like it is on rails. Responds well, sounds great. An experience with few parallels.
