Bought a 2000 CRV in 2011 with 198,000 miles on it. It was a good decision; we have already put 60,000 miles on it with hardly any issues. Tire changes and oil changes. Biggest repair bill was a starter coil issue, can't remember how much it cost but it wasn't any financial difficulty and I replaced it myself. While they were figuring out what was wrong with my starter coil (this was at 227,000 miles) they discovered that one of the 4 cylinders was at 1/2 compression. Uh oh, time to get a new car? They said it would start overheating, I would get low gas mileage, etc. That was a year and 30,000 miles ago, it still gets 30 MPG in the summer (we trip-meter every gas tank, it's pretty consistent). Never overheated, even going 80 MPG on the Montana highways, up mountains, etc. We drove to Missouri and back since hearing the bad news. A/C and heater still work, power windows, lights, everything. Only annoyances are the seatbelts not retracting after turning off (every vehicle I've owned had this issue), road noise (spraying silicon lubricant on the old rubber weather seals around doors fixes it), and noise when making sharp left turns. Also, spare tire may explode if left in sun, best to make sure to keep a tire cover or park in garage. So here's what's up, get one of these. $4500 including repairs we paid for 60,000 miles of good gas mileage = 13 miles per $. That's better than $16,000 for a small SUV that you put 200,000 miles on, and we're still counting. Good in the snow, good in town, good in the highway. Small and easy to park anywhere, but seats 5 and storage.

Great SUV!!

We bought our CR-V in 2011 with 115K miles on it for a steal. Since then we've taken half a dozen long trips in it (900 - 2000 miles each) without a single complaint. It is surprisingly comfortable and big enough for our family of 4 (and I'm 6'5") and a trunk full of stuff. Looks great, easy to clean, 27mpg on the hwy. We've put 53K miles on it in less than 3 years. Maintenance costs are very reasonable. *Update: At 208K the engine burned exhaust valve #1 and that was that! Donated to PBS!

Bought new in 2000. The air condition stop working in 2010 got the freon replaced and i was back in business. That was the only issue i've had in 11 years and it's never let me down, not bad eh!. It's all about reliability and this little truck is still running strong with 335,000 km's on it. My daughter wants it so i guess i'll go look at something new.

My goal with any car is low cost of ownership. The Honda CRV (2000) is an AMAZING value. I bought mine with 5000 miles on the odometer, and kept it for 10 years. Its transmission finally gave up the ghost at 210,000 miles. Other than shocks, routine maintenance (timing belt, water pump, tires, etc.) it needed NO repairs, not even a headlight replaced. It's not the most comfortable or stylish car but it is one of the best values in the world.

I had this car for 10 years (176,000 miles) and had absolutely NO problems. I changed oil every 3K miles but never had it tuned up in 10 years. I gave it to my daughter in law where it will have a new life. Fantastic car!

I have 203,000 on my CR-V. In that time I've replaced the shocks, and the timing belt (as recommended.) Usual stuff like tires, etc. Other than that, NO maintenance issues at all. None. It always starts, always runs. I drove it from Dallas to Philly when it had 180,000 on it with no problem. It gets about 25 mpg. Great car, cheap to own.

Although this car is sluggish and not at all sporty it is a very useful vehicle. When the rear seats are folded flat there is a great deal of space for cargo hauling. The rear mounted spare tire works well with my spare mounted bike rack. Have not been able to get this things stuck yet, even from a dead stop in 3' snow drifts. Not the best mileage for a 4cyl usually 18 in the city and low- mid 20s on the hwy, very comfortable leather seating for long trips and lots of storage and cup holders. Overall good vehicle for my current needs.

Me and my family love are CR-V it is the best car we have ever had. There is over 143,000 miles on it and we have had only one problem and that is with one of are window motors on the passenger side. When you start the engine you have to stick your ear on the hood to hear the engine running. The only maintenance we have done on it was routine. We love this car, my own mother loves are car too, even though she only rode in it once.

I love the versatility of the CR-V, the AWD capability, and the fuel economy. I bought mine used with 90K miles, replacing a leased Jeep Liberty. The CR-V has a smoother ride and uses a lot less gas. It now has 114K miles, but runs good and looks great. The 2000 cc motor is very reliable, but is also very underpowered. That was corrected in 2002. Still, I am a happy CR-V owner and want to upgrade to a 2005 or 2006; no car is perfect. I believe this car has another 60-70K miles left in it.

I bought this Honda crv after having too many bad experiences with a 1999 VW Jetta. Whew. What a big relief getting rid of the former and getting this crv instead. CR-V currently has about 143,000 miles on it and I have had no major mechanical problems with it. It has never left me on the road alone. It is like the little engine that could. The looks are NOT deceiving for what is under the hood. It is a SMALL SUV, therefore a small engine. This vehicle is perfect for me as a single female with no baggage. I am a city person and 99% of the time I use it to commute to work and other places in the city. It's perfect for me.

I bought this car new in 2000, my first Honda after driving Fords. What a difference a brand can make. Honda dealerships have been great. Treat women like people, unlike Ford. Car is the best auto investment I've ever made. 10 years later and 177.000 miles, it runs better than some of the used cars I've just started test driving. Also being offered $4k for trade-in. Am now thinking about keeping car (rust and all) for another couple of years. Now gets ~25 mi/gallon. Only got ~20 mi/gallon for first few years. Not crazy about styling, but car is dependable. Had front end repaired a few months ago and muffler pipe replaced last year. Other than oil changes and tires, that's it.

My wife and I were looking for a second car and wanted a small SUV with AWD or 4WD. We saw one for sale two weeks ago wit 176,500 miles and hesitated for a day. We went to look at it again and bought it for $3500. The interior looks like no one drove it or ever sat inside- it's brand new looking. The exterior was rusty w/stock steel wheels and very worn out tires, a few dings here and there but nothing too serious. After driving the car from the lot we drove straight to the Honda mechanic and changed the belt & adjusted the valves and brakes. The SUV is in great shape mechanically and the interior is in excellent shape. The price for service $650, tires with 16" Honda rims $660.

I purchased my Honda used with 130,000 miles on it. I haven't had any major problems. My only complaint is the power windows are dying and the parts are very expensive. My Accord had the same issue. The car handles very well even in tight spaces. My turn radius is better than that of my sister's compact car. I use cruise control whenever I can to improve my gas mileage. Visibility is very good in this model. My car seats four adults very comfortably. I wouldn't suggest a fifth person on a long trip because there isn't a head rest for the middle passenger. This car is excellent for road trips and has plenty of storage space and a table! It handles well on and off paved roads (I have 2WD).

My CRV burned a valve at around 65,000 miles. Not what I expected from a Honda! Manual lists 90,000 for valve adjustment. I called the dealer and they offered a high price to repair but no goodwill and no acknowledgment of a defect or revised maintenance schedule. Now at 125,000 miles I have stalling and surging problems due to a defective head design - leading to valve problems. I visited the dealer ($3800 estimate to fix) and called American Honda and got no satisfaction. Almost every CRV driver I talk to has had some valve or head problem. Why no recall? Google Honda CRV burnt valve - this is no rare occurance.

We purchased this car 0 miles, today the odometer reads 155,000, besides regular maintenance (brakes oil, gas!) this car has given us no problems. It's true what they say the car does not have a lot of power on the road but it drives great, it's very spacious inside, it drives great in snow, and you can't beat the gas mileage. My wife loves it so much we are trading in for another CR-V and we hope we enjoy it for many more years.

Purchased my CRV in 2002 with 50K on it. I am 6' tall and there is plenty of headroom. Comfortable seats, could drive all day in it. Love the visibility. Dependable. Lost radiator this year. No other problems. Gas mileage has been good, about 28-29 mpg highway doing 70mph. Once in awhile I'd like a bit more pep, but overall no concerns. I'd like to keep this vehicle for many more years.

The car is very reliable. The only downfalls are that it doesn't have much pick-up going up hills. Also, the back door opens a little awkwardly. Have to lift the glass window, and then open the lower part like a passenger seat door, to the side. Gas mileage is supposedly 19 mpg city, 23 highway, but I AVERAGE 26 to 30 mpg by driving the speed limit and avoiding sudden acceleration and deceleration. Car has 180,000, and the only thing wrong is ball bearings or something in the wheels, it makes grinding noises when I turn. We haven't had any major work done on the car.

We owned our Pre Owned CRV for 6 years and beat the heck out of it. Yes, it is true that the clock gave out years ago, and the cup holders are so shallow that your coffee gets tossed on the floor and rolls around down there once in awhile, and there is that little key problem on the driver's side door, but otherwise this car has had no major repairs, it always starts and is eager to go many miles. We really love our CRV and we would buy another one in a heartbeat.

I adore my car - somehow I lucked out and found one that is much, much quieter than most of the cars from this year. Handles well at all speeds, although periodically there is some steering wheel shake above 90 mph. I also have tested the gas mileage I get - several times- and I get somewhere between 25-28 mpg, as opposed to the reported 21 mpg. The breaks are excellent and very responsive. Tight turning radius. I love the column mounted steering design, but it takes some getting used to if you're switching from a regular sedan or SUV. The cup holders are weird, and the lock and window switch placement is bizarre.

One caveat. If you follow the owner's manual on this model, you WILL have problems and perhaps MAJOR problems. Some idiot decided that US CR-V's (98-2001 only) get a 105,000 valve interval in the owner's manual while all other countries' manuals state 30,000 miles. If you attempt to go to 105K without the valves adjusted, the engine may not make it. Ask Honda if you don't believe me. Instead, have the local Honda Dealer run the valves every 30,000K. If you are not sure if this has been done, get it DONE ASAP. While you're there, have 'em do the rear 4wd fluid as well as they lied about that one as well. It needs to be done every 30K.

I loved my cr-v very much. Good on gas, reliability is a plus. I was surprised with the picnic table, thought that was thought of Honda including it. Only thing I didn't like about the cr-v is highway uphills driving. There is a loud noise when you drive 70 mph or more. I hate that it can't handle curves and mountains. Other than that, I love my cr-v. I will be buying a 2006 next time. Hopefully honda has improve the cr-v.

Everybody complains about the power. Well the later year CR-Vs, you got what you asked for, and the MPG dropped right along with it. Now the gas prices are out of sight and the most fuel efficient SUV of its time now gets a lot less than the 25 MPG it got in 2000. I'll never get rid of my 2000. It goes anywhere that any SUV can go. Great in snow. Roomy. Great on gas, and looks good. What do you want?

76,000 miles, had new brakes at 50,000, now need new transmission. What's going on? I thought Honda cars lasted forever. What causes transmissions to go? What will the car do when the transmission goes? This car needs more zip & doesn't like sharp turns. I can feel the tendency to turn over.

I am very disappointed with my CR-V. As a matter of fact it was just towed away this morning. It broke down on the highway last Fri while I was doing 65 mph with my 9 yr old in the car. We could have been killed. The car was inspected last month by the dealership and it passed. This is the final straw. The car has been slowly falling apart. The glove compartment does not open. The rear door does not open. The seatbelts lock up for no reason and choke you. The clock broke long ago. The radio has stopped working at times. The key fob would not open the door for about a year and now that works again. It had to be opened using the key. It's been one thing after another.

Overall, a truly excellent car. Fuel efficient for an AWD SUV, versatile, comfortable, and fun to drive. The engine, though somewhat underpowered, is still responsive and the CR-V is fun to drive, particularly with the manual transmission. I bought it in 2005 with 68,000 miles and now have 136,000 on it, and I have only had to fix one thing that wasn't standard maintenance (driver's side power window). Highly recommended for anyone who wants a reliable, safe, and fun small SUV. Have gotten about 25 mpg overall mileage-wise, which isn't bad considering the AWD.

Bought this car new in 2000. I had owned Honda cars in the past and trusted them to be reliable. As of today (5 May 08), my trusty CR-V has nearly 150,000 mile on it and still runs perfectly. All I have done is change all the fluids regularly and drive it gently. I changed the timing belt at 100K, but other than that, it has never been in the shop for anything. Still has the original brakes. Paint is still in good shape, too. I like the fabric seats. Tons of space in the rear. Easy to clean. I'd buy another in a heartbeat, but I don't think this one will ever wear out.

We bought a CR-V the frist of January in 2000. We have had it ever since the car is just amazing. It's fuel efficient, looks great, has lots of low end torque, the smoothers ride and just the reassurance of Honda quality. We just bought the lx model nothing special, front wheel drive not the real time. But I have gone over hills and rocks and steep slopes and everything in this car and not once has it ever failed.

No 8 off the production line for year 2000. Got it in Dec 1999. We had our first repair at 145,000, the hydraulic shifter, it's a stick shift. Runs great and we are at 155,000+ now. Seat fits my wife fine but a little small for me though we both can drive despite the difference in height. It is noisy, but the best vehicle We have ever had. The all wheel drive is a big plus. typically get 24-25 miles to the gallon.

The CRV is a fairly comfortable car. Not bad to look at. Comfortable interior. Gas mileage is also decent (24-25mph). Thats about where it ends. The all-wheel drive chews up tires, the dinky 4 cylinder engine barely pulls a gentle hill. There is a problem with the stock radiator that caused the engine to run consistently hot (not indicated by the gauge)which led to almost $3000 in repairs. Honda parts are spendy!

I purchased this as my first car and it's fantastic. The 5-speed was one of it's major selling points for me but the excellent quality and safety record were important to my parents. I have had no problems with this car thus far, even with 85k miles on it. The car isn't blazingly fast but the 5-speed makes it fun to drive anyway. I agree that it needs more power though, if the engine is under 3500 rpm, good luck moving with any ounce of agility. The only other downfall is the goofy auto-window switch placement. It's right on the dash; hard to get used to. Overall the car is excellent and very roomy, even for my 6'5" body and my equally large friends. Kudos to Honda for the large backseat.

We found the seats to be very uncomfortable. None of the cupholders in front are usable, can't even make small turns without everything falling over and spilling. You can't set somethng on the floor and expect it to stay they, things slide everywhere. We do like the folding table and the cd changer under driver seat. Gas mileage is good.

My Honda CR-V works for me. I do a lot of yard sales and often need to transport large items. The back seats are so easy to fold down, that I don't hesitate to make the adjustment at a whims notice. My family was here on vacation this summer. They drove up in a full size mini-van. With the way gas prices were increasing daily, we opted to use my CR-V. My son and his family will be in need of a replacement vehicle very soon and I'm planning on giving them my 2000 CR-V and purchasing a new one for myself.

I now have 108,000 miles on my 2000 CR- V (manual transmission) and just had the first non-maintenance repair work done today. The right rear trailing arm needed to be replaced. To say that I have been thrilled with my purchase, is a bit of an understatement. It's been reliable, versatile, comfortable and fun to own. It's surprisingly roomy and can fit just about any cargo you'd care to move on a typical Saturday. It cleans up well for a nice night on the town, but isn't too prissy to get dirty should the occasion arise. I hope to have 3 - 4 more years with this one, and won't have to look far for my next car. My local Honda dealer (where ever that may be) can expect me in 2008 or 2009

My wife suggested this vehicle. We were wanting to 'downsize' from our GMC Yukon that was costing $300 per mo for fuel and was hard for her to park. The CRV amazingly enough is comfortable for my 6'3" frame, my wife is tall as well and can stretch her legs completely out in the passenger seat, and it has plenty of room for our two kids too! Wow, what a difference, cheaper insurance costs, easy to park, plenty of room for groceries, garden supplies, books, backpacks and general every day utility. It handles well and the difference in quality between our CRV and the Yukon is like night and day. My only concern is the missing armrest on the drivers side... what's that about?

For years I heard about how great Honda cars were. I bought this one and said never again. It's got no power. I've had loads of trouble with it from day one. It eats brakes, always needs something adjusted or replaced. The drivers window has cost me over $300 so far and still isn't 100%. Overall a very poor quality product in my opinion. The dealers I have dealt with are arogant and unhelpful at best. You won't see me in a Honda after I get rid of this one.

I worked for a Honda dealership for several years and this was by far the employee choice of car. When buying a gen 1 CR-V, installing the passenger side armrest is a MUST. For $50, why wouldn't you want your passengers comfy?!? I can load anything into my CR-V from furniture to a christmas tree and I can even haul a small U-Haul with it. Unload everything, flip the seats up and you can parallel park it anywhere. With today's gas prices it is a great choice and my favorite Honda.

I bought this car new and haven't found anything since that would make me want to sell it. I have never had any problems with it at all. The only small things would be the small plastic panel cover to a compartment on the far back door doesn't stay on and occasionally the brake light comes on for no reason- but for a car with 70,000 miles, that is nothing! The only annoying thing is that a passenger side arm rest was a $50 option that I decided not to get, thinking no one would notice and EVERYONE who has sat there noticed! Aside from oil changes and tires- basic things, this car is maintenance free.

At 60,000 miles I am having to replace the transfer case and the rear differential. I am told that the bearings have worn out. The total cost of these repairs is over $3500. I am very dissapointed that the car would need such major work. American Honda has agreed to pay 75%, but it still means almost $700 out of my pocket, not to mention the headache.

We are full time RVers and tow this CRV and have since it was brand new, we probally have 25,000 miles of towing on it. It is a perfect car for this purpose, roomy enough for 4 adults, easy to tow 4 wheels down with no added mileage showing on vehicle. Only complaints it could be a little more peppy and Honda should re-think the transmission shift or what they call (grade logic). It causes the car to stay in lower gear when under a pull. This is good for mountains or bad weather but causes ecxcessive speed of motor sometimes. They should put a switch to change this like they did for Overdrive.

The transition from a back seat to a cargo area is easy and it has an extra bonus that no other vehicle has----oh yes, the picnic table that doubles and the cargo bed. It also has a lot of cool storage areas including one under the picnic table. I am looking for a new car and can't find one the rivals the CR-V

Well-built, solid, small-size SUV. The reliability is great (what you expect from Honda), have owned for 3 years, not one problem. The AWD is great in bad weather conditions. Cargo area is spacious, a good car for longer trips, as well as, carting the family around town. The fuel economy is good as well. Only shortcoming is four cylinder engine's horsepower, it's adequate, but engine struggles in passing situations and up steep hills. I believe Honda has improved this in later models

Warranty expired on a Thursday at Midnight and the ABS sensor failed on the Friday morning at 7 AM. The Honda dealer adivised me i was out of luck and would not consider goodwill as this particular vehicle had not yet been serviced at the dealership. I only had owned it for 5 days. . I am appealing the decision to Honda Canada. Needless to say , I am not impressed or happy.!

The only flaw which has since been corrected in the 2002 model is the lack of horsepower for its size.

I love the CR-V. It's reliable, runs well and (with the rear seats down) hauls a lot of cargo. Unfortunately, once my wife and I add a second child we will need to upgrade as it just won't carry all of our stuff when we travel long distances.

Not one service repair in 2 years and 30,000 miles. Perfect for small children because the back seat sits up higher and they can see. Never use the picnic table and get teased about it quite a bit. Only thing to be aware of is that there is a lot of road noise in the vehicle. We looked at cute-utes from Toyota, Suzuki, and Kia. It was well worth the extra money to get a Honda.

Very reliable Honda. drove 33k Mi without any problem. The CR-V is not really for racing or extreme off-road. It's a friendly fun SUV.

I love it. This car was also a perfect fit for me. I researched for months before buying it. It is a bigger car that doesn't overwhelm you, it gets good gas milege for its size, just a really fun car to drive. Now I am about to buy a new 2002!!

Careful design makes it a delight to drive and own. Quality is top flight. Gas mileage could be better.

I did a lot of research before choosing the CR-V. I was most concerned about reliability, value, and maintenance. Looks aren't much of an issue when you're stuck in a snow drift. So far, I've been very happy with it. My previous vehicle was a '95 Windstar and I was never so happy as to dump that puppy. The CR-V doesn't have as much room as a mini-van, but now I'm not asked to tote the entire soccer team everywhere either. :-)

Great get around vehicle.

For me it's the perfect vehicle: Sit high & comfortable without needing a ladder to get in, fit in normal sizes parking spaces, get 23 mpg & smile when filling up next to a totally unnecessary and environmentally unfriendly gargantuan suv, front wheel drive in normal driving and 4 wheel drive when necessary (automatically), 8 inch ground clearance, good cargo room and surprisingly roomy passanger room, excellent fit and finish and reliability you'd expect from Honda.
