I don't know why other expi owner's are having problem with gas mileage in my case I am not experiencing this considering the SUV's size, weight, power, and comfort this is a win for the buck, we can't compare the gas mileage of this to smaller SUV's and cars, I guess driving attitude contributes a lot in gas mileage, I do a very slow acceleration from the start til it reaches the right speed comfort. Following the recommended PMS, check up, A?C cleaning will is the key also, right now I am enjoying my Expi for 14 years and still works well, without any problems, just did a tire change twice from year 2000-2014. I love this truck, as a long distance driver, I feel very secured with this.

200,650 miles, mpg-avg 14 in city,17 hwy Improper original windshield install caused water to leak through dask and into fuse box causing lose of underhood lite, courtsey overhead maps lites, and rear wiper motor quit. Ford wouldn't cover it. Overhead map reading courtesy lites, just changing the bulbs major ordeal, micro thin electrical film circuitry under the bulb tore (1/8" wide). Unless you are an electrical engineer or know someone who is, you either get a new (whole overhead unit),used $50 if you pulled it from scrape yard, new approx $350 if you can get one. Extreme poor design, this and many other areas.

Between 2000 to 2008 & now 2011 Ford quality has increased to number one. Ford Dealers have also improved on service.I had 7 Expeditions in the family all had over 150K miles before trade in.I have a 2000 Expedition with 114k & it has been an excellent vehicle, great for long trips, plenty of power from the 5.4L V8.Tune-ups are every 100,000 miles with major fluid changes at 30K & I recommend using fully synthetic oil every 5k-7k miles.Great family vehicle with plenty of room & a 3rd row seat.A SUV with a proven track record.

I bought my XP used with a Lot of miles on it so I expected some problems and I did have some. First there were some electrical issues which I fixed by putting in a new windsheild. Then there was a starter problem. But thats it. It was going on 200,000 miles when when I was driving with my 3 year old and a lady ran a red light and plowed into us. I am buying another one for how it did in that accident alone.

Not many fixes over 10 years

Got my '00 Expedition in '01 and have not been upset with it. I have not had a payment on my SUV in over 5 years and have put very little money into it at this point. My wife and I keep talking about needing a new suv and have balked each time that it comes down to it. After not having a payment in 5 years and putting very little money into the truck, it is very difficult to justify the $550 for a new payment. Each time the tires wear down I keep telling my self that it is going to die and why put the money into it. Then winter comes and the tires outlast the car once again. The one thing that I have had to replace at this point are the coils, 4@$200ea. MPG are not good at 10-13 avg.

Bought new. All issues are normal wear and tear: control arms replaced @ 90,000 miles. 2 coils replaced in 10 years. Outside of that: Nothing! Change the oil regularly and drive responsibly and you get a good vehicle. Safety: superb. Mileage decent for big heavy SUV: 19 Hwy; Controls simple in old vehicle. Reliability: 5 star. Safety: 5 star Comfort: 4 star. I see these all around town, Ford did well with this SUV. Would buy again, would recommend. 4.6 L/ 4 speed. Thanks

I bought my Expedition in 2001. I have had to replace the transmission, two coils, and wheel bearing, ball joints and some other stuff. Now at 138,00 miles and in the shop again. But for some reason I just can't let this truck go. I just bought a Mercedes ML350. But i couldn't trade in my Ford. I just Love It. It's been fixed up just for me and I can't let it go.

Bought this XLT new and it has had only one maintenance issue, a short in the rear sonal wiring. Other than that is has been close to perfect as far as reliability. I do all routine maintenance as required and this may have helped. ground clearance good, power sufficient. Hwy mileage 18-20, city maybe 14. Great A/C and good engine cooling. Good NHTSA safety ratings.

I am very pleased with my Expedition. I bought it 3 years ago and had to replace the transmission ounce at 150,000. It tows well and off roads well. nice ground clearance. Hauling 3 kids and a dog and some friends around, camping and taking trips is comfortable with the interior design. I do wonder about the electrical though, I have trouble withe the keyless entry and my dome lights no longer go on when I open the doors. Other then that a good family vehicle.

I loved my expedition for 8 years until my daughter recently totaled it at a 4 way stop. Very comfortable, dependable and safe. Good vehicle (tank) to have your teens learn to drive. The only real gripe I have is the gas mileage which was about 11. When the gas price went to $4.50, it hurt! For the past 3 years, the transmission shifted hard from 1st to 2nd. Made me nervous to think the tranny might be going out but it never did. My mileage was almost 100K.

Tow to Mock Ford Grants Pass, Oregon They said No Oil pressure in Head Galleys that will be $6100 for new engine! Side Note - Manual states 6 qts for all oil inluding filter. All Star used 7qts this time (never before though) Ford Districa Manager says NOTHING FORD did. This was my 5th Ford, last 3 I bought New. NO MORE FORDs in my Familes EVER. Ford Tougth, Quality< ? That's all I have to say! Blown Spark plugs! Run! Run! Run Away! Will cost $500 min each plug to fix! This is a major problem! They blow up and out of the hole because there's only 4 little aluminum threads holding them in. Then they hit the fuel rail rupturing it and wah lah your car is a BBQ! Ford ignores. Says nothing's wrong. Great quality!

I had a 2000 expedition for 3 years and would've still had it if a tree didn't murder it! In three years I just changed the fuel pump once. I experienced the cylinder misfire issue as well but it didn't effect the over- all performance. I loved the room, it's durable, and it's fun to drive in the snow. I'd definitely recommend this truck!

The Expedition is a great truck for traveling with the family. The gas mileage makes it an expensive daily commuter. The major problems I have had with this truck are blown spark plugs and the emergency brake. So far I have repaired three spark plugs and replaced three coil packs. Two in my driveway and one in the Appellation Mountains behind a parts store. All repairs where with the Helicoil save a thread kit 5334-14 and a little quick set hi temp lock tight. It takes about an hour for the repair and $40. So far I have about 30K to 40K on the repairs. The emergency brake repair parts are a dealer item only and are sold as a complete kit. The other problems where from normal wear and tear.

Still enjoying this 2000 Expedition

We bought this 2000 Expedition new and now have 177K miles on it. All repairs have been wear related - alternator, upper & lower control arms (because ball joints are sealed and not replaceable separately), and the anti-lock control unit. I don't consider any of that major repair. (I had the original anti-lock control unit rebuilt, which was an inexpensive repair.) Of course we've done brakes, shocks, and plugs. This SUV rides and drives great and I will definitely miss it when I finally have to part with it. Only complaint is that it is under-braked, but I knew that when I bought it. You can run out of brake when towing in hot/high conditions - so beware when going downhill.

My Expedition is 9 years old, and I have started looking around for a replacement. What were 'high end' features in 2000 are less than base now in most SUVs of this class. When I purchased this one I was ticked at Ford over a maintenance issue, but the GMs felt too cheap. Now, the new Expeditions feel too cheap. In 9 years I have replaced the the alternator twice, the water pump, the load leveling suspension motor, and the sunroof motor.. The reviews in 2000 indicated the electrical systems are where this vehicle would have problems, and that has proven to be pretty accurate. Back to the replacement... I love my current truck and have decided to just keep driving it.

Owned almost 9 yrs. except for the bottom end of the engine going out at 100k miles ($8k later) I love it. Use it for snow plow, pull 24' boat goes anywhere and has never let us down (except for the engine). Has original battery but new alternator. Lots of room and very comfortable. Handles well on wet, dry roads as wel as in ice and snow. I don't like all the cheap-looking plastic on the new Epeditions. Plus the prices are way too expensive. Get the gas mileage up to 22-25 mpg, keep the power and handling etc and I might buy another.

I bought this car new, and a year into owning it, the 5 disk cd player broke, and wasnt covered under the warrenty. After six years, one of the coils had to be replaced, and 6 months later, another one had to be replaced. both times the repair bill was over $500. 6 months later an O ring had to be replaced and because they had to remove the gas tank to figure that out, the bill was about $600 (the o ring literally cost 25 bucks). Just last year, the transmission blew. Thankfully my mechanic felt like being creative and replaced the solenoid pack and that worked but again, over $500 in repairs. All in all, I've spent over 4000 replacing and repairing. Not worth buying.

We bought this over the GM alternatives because of the interior design. Overall a good truck and reliable transportation. Transmission lost third gear around 120,000 miles and had it rebuilt. Other than that, no other mechanical issues. Interior cup holder in dash got stuck, some sort of grease leaked out from under the center console and stained the carpet. Otherwise solid truck. Would buy again - selling now to move to smaller car since we are out of infant seats.

I have had this car for 8 years and it's gone about 243,000. I have only had two minor repairs, an alternatior and a thermostat, less than $500. Anything else was normal, like tires, brake pads and oil changes. I thought I should sell it 2 years ago but kept it and am so glad I did. It just keeps on going. My locks don't respond properly and the drinkholder broke but the car moves with no problem and has not let me down.

We bought this truck new off the lot. (Gas was much cheaper 8 years ago!) We opted not to buy the extended warranty and have not had any major problems within the first 6 years of its life. However, with that being said, within the past 2 years, we have had to replace the sway bar, new brakes (twice), new front end calibers, new shocks, new emergency brake (prior mechanic cut it!), and just now - a new alternator.

Every day driving will slow down but this has been a reliable, comfortable family travel machine. Pulled my camper from Maine to Florida and does it well. From the beaches of the outer banks on NC to mountains of NC, VA VT, NH. This is one tough truck.. I love my American truck

I bought this car from a friend, knowing it had some problems, a few interior lights didn't work, a couple scratches, but nothing major. They owned it for 8 years and it was great for them. I got it and it was fine for a month. A few days past a month and the #3 spark plug blew when I started the engine. I had to have it towed and serviced which cost me $574.67. Then the mechanic told me if I had to floor it or accel quick for some reason it was very likley it could happen again. Im getting rid of it before anything else goes. It rides great, 4wd is great, and so is ground clearence. I went offroad once and it did fine in 2wd. Gas mileage is 10-12. I would recommend it, but only the 4.6l v8.

At 83,000 miles the only work that has been done on the auto is throttle body cleaning at 80,000 miles and replacement of one coil at around 50,000 miles. Survived a strong hit from Ford Explorer with little damage and no one hurt. Mileage at 20mpg on highway which is good for a large SUV. Cannot get rid of it because it has been so very reliable and secure. Good driving position. Simple dash and plain styling and truck-like ride but big and safe. Rear back up sensor works great. Thanks.

We have had this truck less than one year and it has left us stranded more than 4 times! The mechanic has made over $1,000 dollars for repairs on this truck. First the air bags broke, we replaced them with springs, then the battery went out, then the alternator broke, then the fuel pump needed to be replaced. I told my husband not to buy a Ford, now were both paying for it. Stick to Honda, mine has never had a problem, it's ten years old 120,000 miles and still going. Were getting rid of this piece of junk.

Overall I've been pleased since I had the driver seat reworked. I can't believe I haven't seen more complaints about the uncomfortable leather seats. It had the most uncomfortable seat I'd ever sat in. The back was so hard and bumped outward. I had the lumbar disconnected and added padding, so it's ok now. Have had no mechanical problems and have 60k miles. Just replaced the battery. The front passenger air bag works intermitently, it will cost $300 to fix. I love the roomy cup holding area. It fits all my creature comforts, Kleenex box, drinks, hand sanitizer etc. Plus the huge console compartment. I hate the obstructed view where the side mirrors are. That took some getting used to.

We've driven it a long time for family trip, etc. including 2 large dogs. I love this car, it's just time to start looking for something newer and with a 3rd seat that folds in instead of has to be taken out (very heavy).

Mine has had 77000 easy miles on it to date. The toughest thing it has to do is load up at Wal-Mart. In the past 19000 miles I have had to spend $2530.03 to keep it running. This includes an alternator and a new battery that the dying alternator killed, a new rear wiper motor, new rear lock actuator solenoid, new #5 coil, new lower ball joints, new left front door switch, new idler arm, and most recently new front sway bar links. Keep up the good work Ford. Way to go putting a 6000 plus lb. vehicle out on the road with paper mache in place of a typical truck front suspension. I have truly enjoyed getting to know the service guys at the dealership. I'll send them a card when it is gone.

This truck works fine. We have had it six years since new, great towing vehicle and people mover, mileage not too bad as it got older/broken it. I get around 19 or so on highway and 14- 15 in town - not bad for a really big heavy vehicle that is this strong. Replaced an axle seal and air compressor, and normal wear items. I'm keeping mine, no need to trade it.

Bought used in 2003 to replace 1995 Astro van that we had crashed. Has been a really good vehicle with no problems. When I bought it the dealer said that they had serviced the vehicle with a major tune up and transmission service. Recently when you push on the gas the car started to pull back in power. The first thing i thought was the transmission, so i had it serviced and the tech said it had never been serviced before, but was very clean. Well that wasn't the problem, a master mechanic finally found the problem as an arcing going across the distributor wire. So I paid for a major tune and had everything replaced. $700 dollars later, runs good now. Not a very cool car for Laguna Beach!

Big powerful SUV that can tow a boat and take the kids to school. A bit tall for kids in car seats (hard to buckle standing outside the SUV) but teens have no problem. Handles well in snow, rain and dry. No problem passing or getting up to highway speed. AWD hurts fuel mileage but 4X4 is nice for deep snow and any off road drive. Running boards and lower ground clearance are not well suited for serious 4X4 off roading. Should use running boards when exiting the SUV or pant legs can get mud/dirt on them.

My Expedition is almost 6 years old with 71,000 miles. With just less than 36,000 the engine needed replacement. Last July 2005 with 67,000 it needed a transfer case. This past week in February 2006 the transfer case needed replacement with only 5,000 since July. At the same time Ford needed to replace the rear end. Quality is Not Job One. I would not recommend this vehicle.

I like the Expedition, it's a nice truck with a nice ride. The only thing I don't like about it is that the gas mileage is so poor. I manage about 12-13 mpg in the city. This SUV still goes and goes after 110,000 miles and still running strong. The 5.4 V8 is powerful.

Have been stranded three times in 82k miles. Once with a ghost problem with the front wheels grinding and stopping the truck while coasting. Pulled over in Nashville and of course the problem went away. Never came back. Second experience was with the transmission getting stuck in Drive and had to be towed. The linkage needed replacing. Third, at 80k, a spark plug blew out of the head. Come to find out this is a known problem at Ford since they engineered and sell a repair kit to add a coil to allow the plug to be reinstalled. Kit only works if minimal head material gets blown out. My problem took too much material so head needs replacing. Don't just do one head because the other has the same flaw.

Overall, I have been pleased with this truck. Pros: carries everything, comfortable. Cons: poor gas mileage, third row seats don't fold flat. The biggest negative comes when you go to get the truck fixed. Ford seems to hide parts in hard-to-find places. Replacing the $50 front heater core requires $600 of labor to remove all the other parts that block it.

This is an add on from my last review on my Expedition. Now, less than 7k miles from the blown head gasket, at 75k I have a misfiring cylinder. One of 8 the dealership reminds me, all of which could go bad just like cylinder 3 in my current case. $252 later I am still driving my Expedition. How long do you keep it before saying/admitting it was a loss and buy something other than a Ford? Maybe Ford will help now that I have spent over $2k in repairs since purchasing 2 years ago. I doubt it.

I purchased an expedition b/c of its great looks, size, and expected reliability. I bought it w/55k miles in 2003. Loved it and still do b/c of tough truck looks w/the sport package. Great view from the front seats, plenty of room inside, though when the 3rd seat is used there is little to no room in the back, great handling interior comforts. The ride is a little rought. However, all of that went to the wayside when the head gasket blew at 69k and ford refused to help. So $2k later, I am still driving my Expedition. So, love the vehicle but can not rationalize buying another one due to my misfortune and ford's refusal to help. Where is customer service to keep customers loyal?

Great truck. No racer, as you would expect, but I tow our 20' boat up 6 degree inclines in the Blue Ridge Mountains with no problems at all, and I have the 4.6 Triton! Comfortable on the highway. The XLT Sport is a great deal. XLT with bonuses! You have to have Continental tires on this SUV; they improve handling and quieten the ride.

Intermittently some accessories are staying on after the keys are removed from the vehicle running the battery dead over night. Can't always remember to shut everything off. BIG Problem. We can't rely on it! Very disappointed. Great vehicle other than that. Ford dealership cannot find a problem. So far 4 separate instances with a brand new battery.

Have required repeated repairs, each at a very high price. Repairs include rear oil seal 3 times, transmisssion seal, air pump, shocks and electic control for air shocks, brake cable, tie rod ends, sun roof seal and motor, and on and on. Most recent was anti-lock brake contol and pump for $1,300. This is the worst vehicle I have ever owned, compounded by Ford's outrageous repair costs. I will never own another Ford.

I have 48000 miles and have only had to replace the brakes. The car has great get up and go getting up to highway speeds. Gas mileage is not great, but I'd rather be spending money at the pumps than in a small car. We'll drive this car into the ground.

It drives well and has really good reliabiliy. The only problem so far was an odd, groaning idling at stoplights, but it has been fixed and not as problematic. Traded in our Grand Cherokee for our Eddie Bauer. Love how much room this truck has even with the 3rd seat in it. Taking the 3rd seat out, is like a pickup truck. Thoe it is kinda heavy and bulky. Very comfortable seats and ride. Ours has air suspension, very nice on highways. Like a Lincoln. Great sound system. Rear air and radio controls are nice for kids. Pulls our 23ft boat very good to the river. Cant wait to purchase a new eddie bauer expedition. This is my 4th ford. No complaints.

At 55,000 miles we had a major transmission problem and simultaneously the enginge blew! During the next 10,000 miles it has been in the shop more days than out. It currently sits in the shop to have $2,000+ of transmission repairs completed. Ford could care less and has done nothing to help compsenate after persistant follow- up on my part. After 4 years the truck is still in excellent shape and has not been in the shop for repair excepting a loose wire on the back up system. 5 star safety rating was a factor in purchase. My main complaint is that right after Manuf warranty expired- I'm talking 3 months and 2500 miles - I had problems with 2 power windows, door locks (child locks) air suspension tubing and compressor. After 8,000 miles, nothing has broken, and it still drives like new. Feel very safe with our kids in the vehicle. This car is sure to turn head on size alone. Overall these are beautiful SUV's, with all the bells and whistles inside there more like a RV. Room inside is unmatched, and this SUV can pull anything without strain. Perfect traveler vehicle with children or animals! Drives like a compact in parking lots, brakes arent as powerful as we would like on a SUV that size. Overall, plan to keep for many years.

Overall good experince with XLT Sport 4WD with 5.4L engine. Bought new in Dec 99. Very comfortable cloth seats held up well over 4 years, great in snow and over long distances. Biggest problem is with rear wiper (replaced twice - once under warranty, recently out of warranty). Also had problem starting/idling after large change in barometric pressure (i.e. after major storms) - replaced idle valve sensor seemed to fix. Average 16 MPG - its a full size SUV, so what do you expect? High residual lease value means I turn in back to dealer way over actual value. Seemed to depreciate fast.

For a vehicle that stickered at $42,400 the quality in workmanship is lacking. The ride is extremely unimpressive. In 50,000 miles I've been through three set of tires (even though I rotate every 5000 miles), leather is wearing excessively, vehicle vibrates over 70 MPH (dealers can't figure out problem), windshield wiper and vent window motors failed. I don't expect these problems when I purchase a vehicle that approaches 40K.

I purchased this new in 1999 and was initially impressed with the powerful 5.4L engine, looks and comfort. Always dealer serviced. I thought by buying new and dealer maintained, any issues would be resolved early. What a surprise. It developed a rough idle and after 3 trips to the dealer, convienently after the warranty, a blown head gasket was diagnosed. $1800.00!!! The dealership paid half but that was still $900.00 and the other trips that totaled $500.00. Now ABS light is on. A $38,000 vehicle shouldn't have these problems. Next car will be a Toyota Sequoa. Tried to buy american but...can't afford to.

This vehicle is a nice driving vehicle but my particular vehicle's transmission had problems at 35,000 miles. I took the car in to see if I could get it repaired but Ford said there were no problems. The transmission completely went out at 40,000 miles. Ford would only cover 80% of the costs even though the problem was first reported at 35,000 miles. If you are considering a Ford as a vehicle (which I made clear to Ford that I would never buy another vehicle from them), make sure you get the extended warranty because of the unreliability and service.

I have driven to mountain ski resorts and on major highways transporting college students and I am completely disappointed in the expedition's road performance. It sways badly when heavily loaded whether it is on the mountain road or the highway. The gas mileage is not as good as they predicted, it is much worse, even when I am not loaded down. I found my old caravan fit much more college furniture and dorm room items than the expedition. The only positive thing I can say about it is that the seats are incredibly comfortable, especially the front heated seats.

Ever since we bought our 2000 Expedition XLT, it has been superb! It is a very smooth ride and does not wobble like our previous Explorer. There is lots of room and the 3rd row seat is a great feature. The car seems like it was built well and is a very sharp design outside. The inside design is very nice as well. Although, i would recommend leather seating because the cloth interior isn't as comfortable as the leather. Our previous Explorer was a really nice car, it had leather and a sunroof, and we sometimes miss the comfort in that car. The engine is also very soft and not loud. Overall it's an awesome car and i would recommend it to any SUV family.

This was the first Ford product I've ever purchased. The perverbial crap hit the fan soon after leaving the dealer. I was told and have read how Ford engineers had a winner with the Expedition. Great pachage I admit. But, when your wife and kids are stuck in a broken down vehicle...blood pressure boils! It's the call you didn't expect after buying a "quality" vehicle for the wife and family. Yes, we were warned of the safety trips...the problem was more severe. After 1 week, the damn truck had to be towed!!!! To the dealer it went for a new alternator. Covered by warranty, but not excusable for the money spent. You want to buy a Ford...be warned!

at 58,000 miles my transmission went out and due to the fact that i did not have my transmission fluid replaced at 30,000 miles, the extended warranty that i had purchased through the ford dealerership by a third party company UNITED AUTO CARE, the extended warranty denied my claim. Several qualified sources have indicated to me that not changing the transmission fluid at 58,000 miles will cause this problem. And of course Ford washes their hands of the problem.

The absolute worst vehicle I've ever owned. Fit & finish - poor, performance poor - reliability - poor - I knew the fuel mileage would be bad - but 11 mpg with the 4.6?!?! Problems too numerous to detail. Quality IS NOT Job 1 at Ford - nor is there Quality Care. I could've spent much less for a Nissan or Toyota and had many less headaches. The 5.4 liter engine has a knock that Ford ford calls a cold engine knock. Funny it knocks when you pull off of the interstate after driveing 180 miles. I would hate to see what they call a warm engine. The problem will keep me from buying another Ford. There is an obvious problem with the 5.4 engine that they are not willing to admit. I would say it was liftr rattle if it had lifters.

This is my wife's around-town car, but we also use it for travelling. In both areas it has proved its worth. She finds it comfortable and easy to drive, practical at hauling around family, friends and shopping, and it can always be trusted to provide towing for my own less reliable motor. But it really shines at vacation time. We drive long distances and the kids just dont complain - there's enough room for one of them to be asleep flat while the others play around. And it handles the off-road portions admirably (even with only 2WD). To sum it up: comfortable, practical, versatile. (There is that fuel economy thing, though!)

I traded in a 1997 Explorer for the Expedition, it 5.4 liter engine and carrying a bucnh of kids were the big reasons. I have to say the 5.4 is a great choice for towing, but i would have liked a choice of a 3.73 rearend instead of the 3.55 that it came with, but can't always choose when buying used. All in all a great move for me and the fuel milaege hasn't been as bad as one might think, i'm averaging 16.8 with both in town and highway mixed.

Leased a 2000 XLT w/ Sport Package, 5.4ltr., auto., 4x4 w/ automatic 4 wheel drive option for 3 years. I liked the power from the 5.4 since this is a BIG vehicle, had front and rear air and heat, third seat a joke, great stereo w/ 6 disc cd changer, and the ride height made me feel king of the road. Had to replace transmission at 54,000 miles; not pleased. Don't use the auto 4 wheel drive in snow unless you want in a ditch, gas milage was about 14 on highway, 10 in city. I don't think I'll buy another one.

I bought my Expedition 4wd new in November 2000. it currently has 26,000 miles and has been returned 11 times and spent 30 days in the shop. New transmission, rear wiper motor, New IAC valce, new fuel pump, two new seats, new engine oil pressure sender unit, suspension problems, replaced transmission shift cable, replaced two of the "replacement tires" during tire recall. Ford doesn't have a clue as to what customer service is. If you do buy a Ford and have serious problems, you'll regret it, I promise. Ford has no customer service!

Resale value yukky but I think because everyone has one. Had no problems with power (5.4). Dealer service departments (2) have falled way BELOW my expectations so now that it's out of warranty I'll be looking for private repair facility if I need. It was a choice between a minivan or an Expedition (duh!). We liked the comfortable interior. Going from a Honda CR-V to this was a big leap (we still have the CR-V for the work commute). We didn't realize how many more features this truck had (power seats, power adjustable pedals..). And the miles per gallon isn't that worse (I'm lucky to get 20 mpg on the Honda). Ours came with a huge front seat console, illuminated running boards and 6-disc CD changer, all of which brought it close to an Eddie Bauer trim. And going from a four cylinder to a V-8, I'm able to drive like I want to.

Bought 2 at the same time. The Expidition was a choice of going bigger rather than smaller. Bought it new off the dealer lot, and had no problems with the truck. It has had a great towing history with no problems handling a trailer at the top of the load capacity. Never experienced any of the unstability that some people have claimed..However we drive is understanding it is a high 4WD TRUCK! We did however change all the fluids to synthetics and increased our fuel economy by over 2 miles to the gallon. With the 5.4 ltr that comes up to 16/21 average ratings.

This is a replacement for an identical 2000 EB 4x2. 1st one had an intermittent exhaust odor that the dealer could not fix. Went the Lemon Law route for this vehicle. Only problems on this one were 1-Sunroof roared at 55+ MPH .Dealer fixed this by stretching the nylon straps that limit the deflector shield. Shield was not in airflow and would vibrate. 2-Intermittently car would not crank. Faulty Neutral/Park switch in the steering column Tires just replaced at 24k with Michelin X-Terrain. They are worth the money. 5.4L engine gas mileage is ~ 14MPG average 50/50 highway and city. Highway gets 20MPG/60 MPH and 16MPG/80 MPH. Lots of parasitic drag.

Overall have been satisfied with vehicle. The 4.6L engine is quite small for a heavy vehicle with 17"$ tires and a towing package. ABS went south at 40,000 miles ($1,000 to fix Ford/Dealer helped reduce to $200 out of pocket). Read wiper motor broke which lead to a fatigue failure of the wiper blade.

Only problem this truck had was a MAF that was sticking but that was fixed in 3/2002. and i know alot of people think that 4.6L motor is weak, well they are wrong. this motor pulls a 5000lb 22 ft boat no problem at 60-65 mph on the freeway with over drive on at 1,800 rpm.

Everything, including the electronics were trouble-free. The ride was like a luxury car and gas milage on the highway was a consistent 17mpg. However, when I towed my trailer the mileage and power went drastically down. The 5.4 engine is great, however the rear axle 373 can't handle the load. I suggest that if one wants to tow a 6000 lb. trailer, buy a power stroke diesel (like i just did). Towing with a 5.4/373 axle is not meant for towing much weight (I found). I needed to bring up my rmp's to abuot 4000 in 1st gear (automatic) and then go up the big grades at 35 mph.

After a year of issues, they upgraded me to a 99' XLT w/ leather and the payment stayed the same. Now I have a 00' XTL (loaded) and I'm about to get a 03'. Overall, I am very pleased and you will too if you have some patience and expect that all vehicles won't be perfect. (new engine, wiring fire..it goes on and on) We have been left on the side of the road many times due to major problems. The size is nice and roomy for our family, and when it is running, we receive a nice ride. We have done routine maintenance and have taken good care of our Expedition. this truck had 3 problems so far. The differential had a recall, and the dealer didn't have the tool to repair it a year after they sold it to me. Next the wiper motor had a recall for fires. Next, the rear wiper locks up intermintantly. This vehical definitly drives like a truck, feeling unstable over 60mph. Not supprised though. The truck is comfortable and lots of room inside. Major drawback is after 18 months of payments (at .9apr, I still owe $30k, but the trade in and resale value is only $20k. Major depreciation! Unless you're keeping it long term, not a good deal.
