I recently bought a 2000 ford excursion limited v10 gas with 88000 miles a one owner car I purchased it for a friend that bought it new. its in mint condition I refer to it as my 16 year old new car. it has a towing package with trailer brake control under dash. with heated towing mirrors, my only complaint is that the towing mirrors have a blind spot you have to use the wide angle lower part to see vehicles that are next to the rear door I have only owned this vehicle for two months and at night its even harder because your distance judgement is impaired. but its just a matter of getting used to the mirrors over all I love this vehicle its the best vehicle I have ever owned. mileage is poor 11 in town and 14 on the highway without towing. if you want a safe classy big suv a used excursion is a great value I highly recommend this vehicle. oh it has plenty of power even at 6000 feet in colorado

Wish I could buy another new Excusrion!

Best vehicle I have ever owned, by far! I can haul 7 adults on a long vacation trip in comfort, with all the luggage they care to take (eliminating the need for at least one additional car) and everyone is very safe in this WELL BUILT beast! I got the diesel engine (7.3 liter turbo diesel) which is the ONLY way to go with a vehicle with an empty weight of 7,260 pounds. It accelerates like it has solid rocket boosters if called on. Fuel economy with the "economy" rear end is impressive. Car loaded, at 45 mph on flat roads, I get 26 mpg!!! That drops to 16 when pulling a 9,500 pound trailer on hilly terrain. Average is around 17 - 19 including city. Even with the economy rear end it has the power to pull my house off the foundation if I wanted, I think. I know why the resale value on these vehicles is so amazingly high! They are also the darlings of the trade show circuit, able to haul whatever is needed, and still nimbly navigate among trade show inside spaces.

Bought it because my family outgrew the ext cab 150, many, many trips from IL to PA and many parts in between. Wouldnt trade it for anything and now have a 6" lift with 35's on it, but its no longer my daily driver. It has the 4.30 rear end in it, so I never got better than 11 on the highway, now I only get 10, but it pulls anything I put behind it. She has 190K on the clock, and paid for so Im keeping this until the wheels fall off, put em back on and keep driving it. When the V-10 gives up, Im doing the 7.3L swap....

over 250k kilometers and counting. Rock solid vehicle. Needs maintenance like any other, brakes, etc. Seats are still almost as good as new, leather. Recommend getting JBL shorty headers to replace the stock manifolds, which will eventually blow off the bolts. Gives 30% hp increase over stock. Better mileage with the headers, on the highway that is, in the city, you just get there a bit quicker. 2016 update. Still have the beast. Still running strong. Initial plan was to have it for 10 years. Now at 16 years, think I will keep it for 25 years or so. Such a versatile vehicle.

And The Reliability Is Absolutely Perfect! I Proved Everyone Wrong Who Said Don't Buy An American Car When I Bought My Big Blue! (It's A Dark Blue-Purplish Color) She's A Little Dented Up Here And There, But Overall Still An Excellent Vehicle! I'm Keeping This Until The Wheels Fall Off! Though I Can't Say That's Gonna Happen!

I bought this last August and was only going to use as a occasional driver. This vehicle can't be stopped performance wise so far. This year we finally had snow in the winter and we went anywhere we needed. I think we could have probably gone in the snow without 4wd. My only complaint is the little things such as the rear door/hatch latches getting dirty and causing a false door ajar and causing the interior lights to stay on. It is more of aggravation than cost. Lower cup holders do not hold cups tight and can allow to turn over.

I have had to do a lot of repair work on this truck. I guess ford designed things to wear out around 100k. Just replaced the engine due to 2 broken valve springs #5 & #10. Hub bearings at 85k, various ciols and injectors. Should have waited for a diesel. Great for hauling the family around, feels safer being bigger than most everyone else. Added air intake and cat back. Mileage went up from 10 to 12 unloaded, is around 9.5 pulling a small landscaping trailer.

I enjoy driving my peppy beast. It commands alot of attention and respect on the road. I'm not saying i'm a bully but sometimes the sheer girth lets me make headway thru intersections. Its not a gas guzzler like reported or reviewed because it was not made for fuel economy. It carries and pulls. Lets be real people.

I bought my 2000 Excursion off the CarMax website out of Dallas Texas without even seeing it in person. I trusted the salesman & he was honest enough to tell me the truth. He said the vehicle was in great shape so I had it shipped to Houston & when I saw it I fell in love with it before I ever drove it. It was BEAUTIFUL!!! It has the towing power to pull my travel trailer without bottoming out the gas gauge and it pulls like it has nothing behind it. Does not sway and handled so much safer than the 2 previously owned Surburans I had. It has a V10 and is great on gas. On the open road I get between 15 and 20 mpg and never less than 12 while towing anything. I now have 125,000 miles.

I purchased this used truck for towing, however, my 2000 XLT only has a 5.4L V8. Edmunds says the base engine is a V10 6.? something. I pulled my new camper of 4100# for 280 miles... refueled 32 gallons. OUCH... but... it pulled it very well. I noticed on the main page for the 2000 Excursion, my 5.4 V8 isn't mentioned as an option in the 4 wheel drive, which mine is. Overall, I'm happy with it. It's a very solid ride.

I bought this for the size, and diesel, 4x4. The 1st thing I did is put a hypertec programmer and a 4inch exhaust on for better power as I felt it lacked. I pull a 38ft travel trailer.it has been all over the US with very few problems. I have just the regular MA things to do. I avearge 24.5 mpg on the Hwy and 19 in the city ,not bad for a big SUV diesel. I do wish the chassis was long like the 4 door trucks Ford has, it would pull smoother. But overall I love this truck and the size.

I bought this 2000 Excuriosn to tow a 6500lb travel trailer. It has exceeded my expectations! Very comfortable on long trips, tows smoothly and handles well for such a big truck. I have the V10 which is efficient and very strong. I average 13 mpg towing at 60mph, and 17 highway not towing, with 4-6 passengers. This is a great truck.

I bought mine used with only 4k miles and it was 2 years old. The only bad part was having to replace the front drive axle on the long side. I own and operate my bike shop and I noticed that the new axle had a redesigned u- joint. I kept the old one in case I need it since Ford does not replace the u-joint but the whole unit. Other than that, I have had to disassemble the locking hubs everytime they need grease. Plus replace the battery after 7 years. The upside is that this truck does not get any worse gas mileage than a regular pickup. The MPG does not care if I am loaded down and towing or running empty. This is mostly due to the transmission "learning" as it goes.

I have always owned full-size extended or crew-cab pick-up trucks so the size of the Excursion doesn't bother me at all. My family is expanding and I love all of the air conditioned seating it provides for my kid, dog, wife and all of their stuff. I have been averaging 19-20 MPG on the highway with my Powerstroke, which is exceptional for a SUV of this size. No 5300 or 6000 powered Yukon XL will be able to match it! It's too bad Ford quit making this vehicle. I say bring it back with the new Super Duty chassis and the 6.4L Powerstroke!

I purchased this from a friend who didn't need it anymore. I love this vehicle, and really don't see what the big deal is about size. This is the same chasis as a crew cab short bed truck and there are tons of them on the road! Don't dismiss this little gas engine either. Not only does it have enough power for trailering, it gets over 14 mpg average. I wish people wouldn't have bashed this as badly as they had. I will look for more of these trucks to replace this one when it wears out.

I purchased my 2000 Excursion Limited Diesel back in 2001 with one eye open, not sure what to expect. My wife had just totaled our 2001 Suburban and I was looking for a diesel. Six years later, I have not had a single reliablity issue with the truck. Other than routine maintenance (brakes, hoses, fluids, etc...), the truck has given us 131,000 trouble free miles. I get 17mpg around town, and 23 on the highway. I am 6'4"/330lbs and I am very comfortable in the truck. I plan on keeping this vehicle for many more years, or until it gives up the ghost.

This is the best family vehicle in comfort, ride, reliability, and safety. And not to forget the cargo space. My father in-law is a world business man and travels quite often and brings us back a lot of goodies and this Excursion welcomes him and all his cargo with open doors. We've taken trips from San Diego to Vancouver Canada and back, Vegas, LA to Seattle, and many trips to San Francisco with 4 large adults and two kids, and everyone praised how well it rides. It is really comfortable on long and short trip, rides high so you can enjoy the scenery.

This Excursion drive and rides like a dream. It is great on long trips, what a cruiser. I like the looks of it. The interior is so comfortable and roomy. You can haul just about anything. Ours is a diesel and not 4x4 so our mileage is not too bad. The bet we did was 19.75 and usually about 18 mpg. So for a rig this big that's not too bad. It is not the easiest thing to park.

I'd avoid this vehicle and all FORD products. Apparently there's an issue with blowing spark plugs which costs upwards of $5k to repair including replacing the head unit. Always seems to be one issue after another, odd repairs have put our vehicle out of service roughly 30 - 40 days in the past few years.

I have owned this vehicle since 2001. 7.3 Turbo Diesel, not very much power, replaced 3 sets of hubs, 4 cam position sensors, ball joints have no grease fittings - replaced those twice, multiple electrical problems, 6 batteries so far, light switch breaks off when turning lights on (recalled on others, not where mine was built, per Ford). Newest problem, no center of steering, has been in shop 3 times; no use of it for last 2 months; replacing part by part from flushing fluids all the way to steering box, still doing same thing -- pulls right, then left, then right. Going back to dealer today. My best advice, buy a Chevy.

When we purchased this SUV we needed something that was big enough to tote around our very active children and be reliable, safe and spacious. We have had to fix a few things in the SUV, but we have been very satisfied with it. We love driving our Ford Excursion and would purchase another one again. Maybe a diesel for fuel economy. It is pricey to fill the tank.

We were looking for a vehicle with some power. We still have teenagers at home so a truck was out and we already had gone the van route. I didn't even know that Ford made such an animal. We test drove Chevy Suburbans but nothing in our price range performed like our 'X'. The 'X' (affectionate name Excursion owners have for their vehicles) is not your average grocery getter SUV. It is made with a purpose that suited ours perfectly. Ours also has the 4.30 optional gears as well. It pulls our travel trailer with plenty of power to spare. My wife had already driven vans so the mirrors were no problem. This is a big station wagon with lots of guts. Other than the fuel economy, this SUV rocks!

Well, I have wanted one of these for a while; haven't had it too long, but so far it is everything I wanted in a truck. Used it for a long road trip to see family/friends, got 13.5 miles a gallon, drove in extreme comfort. Also have a 1997 Kia Sephia and didn't want to drive it this far, so I bought my Excursion, and I absolutely love it. People see this thing coming and get out of the way. Took out third seat and laid a full size air mattress in the back, love all the power options, and the power/manual hubs for the 4X4. And all the room in this thing. Buying used it was cheaper than you think.

Well what can I say the Excursion is the biggest SUV out there with just about everything you need on board. The Excursion is highly appealing unlike the Suburban with its cheap plain look. The Excursion has a very flashy exterior with its shiny grill and crystal clear lights and limo like body - the Excursion will make you look twice. With a comfortable interior you're pretty much set for the road ahead. People who review the Excursion and say its useless except for carrying up to 9 passengers and having a big cargo space; hey it's not any diffrent than the enormous Escalade ESV or the H2 Hummer (which looks like an an ARMY truck). If Ford discontinues this car it will be a huge mistake.

Big, spacious hauler with plenty of room for our three kids and two dogs. The Excursion is our main vehicle for our weekly trips to the ski slops in Vermont and there is no better truck on the road to handle the weather we drive in. The diesel gets around 16-18 mpg and stays about the same even when towing a 9,000 lb tractor. I am replacing this truck with an '05 Excursion. I had two Suburbans before this truck, and they did not have the hauling and towing capacity as this truck has.

Vehicle has been very dependable. Plenty of room. Features are great. Better mileage than expected for its size and larger gas engine. If you need a large SUV and realize that it will not provide you with 30 mpg, this is a great vehicle.

This vehicle turn heads everywhere you go. Other cars move out the way when they see you coming. You are in control all the time. You just have to remember when you are driving this vehicle that other people lives are in your hands. So you have to be alert at all times, especially when you are on the highways. Trying to find parking with this vehicle is very tough and make sure you make enough money to afford filling up the gas tank every week. Overall I think this is a great car but one has to make sure that this is not their main vehicle because using it everyday would definently put a deep hole in your pockets.

Drove Broncos for 20 years and needed a reaplacement. Before I bought this, I had nightmares about not fitting into places. After a 105 inch wheelbase, this was huge. I LOVE this vehicle and everything about it. I have the V10/4.30 and it hauls my horse trailer like it's not even there. It's super-stable on the road, great comfort and space for long road trips and my most favorite thing about it is the look of the front end. Although the gas mileage isn't my favorite thing about the Excursion, it's worth it for the look, ride, and the safe feel of LARGE. I wish Ford would continue to make this vehicle.

All I can say is I bought for safety and it paid off! Previous Montero owner - wife wanted a bigger SUV - so we bought the biggest. We were involved in a multi-car crash on the freeway complete with airbag deployment and NO injuries in our SUV. We trashed everyone elses car - $10K to fix the Big Black Truck - and we won't get anything else! This thing is a tank and rides/runs/looks as good as new - honestly. If you don't have one of these things - don't drive without insurance!!!

i own two excursions a gas and a diesel ilove my diesel i get between 16.5 to 22.0 miles per galion my gas truck gets about 10.0 mpg but ive increased that by installing a k&n air filter to about 15.0 mpg the ride is nice handling great if ford made the rest of the body out of recycled bottles like they made the rear doors the truck would be lighter and tow even more and would probably use even less gas or diesel.

Get the Gas V-10 for optimum power. Great deals abound due to gas mileage concerns for used. I would bet it comes back after a redefined engine "Overhaul" that increases mileage 20% but comes in smaller than the Suburban. Excellent large family car. I went from Explorer to this and have not regretted it.

I asked several owners about the reliability and gas milage before I purchased an Excursion and got rave reviews from all on reliability and service problems. Gas milage is nothing to write home about but you can load everybody and their stuff and go wherever you want. The thing is built like a tank and rides quite well. I anticipate owning it many years. One of the people I questioned bought his from a state auction and drove it 100,000+ miles and had to have something with the wipers fixed(something due to the speed variable setting, I figured). If this was all, since most new cars have several bugs(especially the debut model like this one is) I was sold.

Having just dumped my problem-plagued Windstar for a Toyota Sienna, I was very concerned about the quality of Ford products. With four kids and all their stuff, I wanted a large SUV that could had our difficult winters. I've been very pleased with my truck. At 43k, I've only had minor warranty repair work completed. Would like better gas mileage and a softer ride. The stereo sounds great. The side mirrors and rear sensors give you great vision around the vehicle.

I love my Excursion!! From my experience and from the comments of friends and family who have ridden with me, it is the best riding vehicle ever on the highway. It does ride a little rough when in town and going into and out of parking lots, etc. The "but" is that it does use a LOT of gas. I average about 15 MPG on the highway and about 10 MPG in town.

I bought this vehicle used with 17K and have loved it. I have the v10 and my mileage is ~11 MPG, which is the same as my 1999 Dodge Ram extended cap pickup. I have three kids in car seats which I can put next to each other in the second row. I am supprised at the pickup on the freeway, my truck will jump like a rabit at 80 MPH. I have had some problems with mine; New front 4*4 @ 25K, All new door locks at 60K, New front upper & lower ball joints @ 70K, plus new heated seat @ 70K. Luckily I bought a extended warranty from ford so I only have to pay $100 Ded for each item. I am looking forward to buying a 2004 model next year.

I purchased my Excursion strictly for my family weekend getaways. I was a bit hesitant with the talk of gas mileage, but who buys a hog like this for gas mileage? Also seeing my Wife lounging on the back row playing with the kids during our last trip to Virginia Beach while I was in control up front makes this a worth while purchase. The SUV handles like a truck but has all the comforts of a luxury car. A DEFINITE KEEPER.

Added Edelbrock shocks and the handling is even good. This vehicle is perfect for the rough roads in the SE Michigan area...the big tires and wheels handle the bumps and holes with ease. 44 gallon fuel tank is big plus.

The gas mileage is not bad for its size, especially if you maintain the vehicle. 6 months ago, my Excursions lease expired. At that point, I thought it was a good idea to down size. WRONG!!! Presently I am seriously considering to trade my 6 month old Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd V8 in for another new Excursion. This would mean that I am probably going to lose $10000+ in 6 month time on my Jeep. I think my opinion about this SUV speaks for it self considering that I am willing to lose a rather high amount on my present car (which is not even that bad) to get back in an Excursion.

The only problem is that deisel fuel is not at all stations. This is really no problem as it comes with a 44 gallon monster tank! The 4wd failed in a snow storm but the dealer fixed it quickly under warranty and no problem since. I use this vehicle off road alot and it is big on narrow trails so a chain saw for trimming trails, clear coating and waxing to protect paint from scratches is a must. It has yet to get stuck and really has the power to pull loads and get through mud down to dry earth for traction. The kids fight less on long trips with this big house on wheels!

I purchased my Excursion while trading in my F-150 to tow my 21' boat and 33' camping trailer and also needed the extra room (have 4 children). I could not be more pleased with the Excursion with it's towing capacity and room. My ford has the 6.8 Liter V10 and has tons of torque. The seating arangement is great. I had to pick up some items so I removed the 3rd row seat and had lots of room while still having the 2nd row available. The 3rd row seat could not be more easily removed... a quick pull on the latch and it rolls right out the back on it's built in rollers. The 2nd row seats then simply fold down if more room is needed.

Its the largest and most comfortable SUV available, the massive bucket seats in the Limited edition are as luxurious an expensive home recliner. The V10 engine makes this massive machine suprisingly quick, and the positive steering makes it nimble in corners. The van served its purpose (although I would never buy another chry??? product), but the Excursion does more than serve its purpose. The 3rd row seat is the best we've ever sat in with leg room for my father-in- law who is over 6 feet tall. With it's 10 cyl. and 6.8 L engine the ride is smooth. Missing headrest on 3rd row and somewhat weak A/C gives this beast a 9 instead of 10 on the comfort scale. However, Ford's quality dwarfs that of GM in every aspect - exterior and interior

Perfect vehicle for the large family. Wife and I have 6 children and fill every seat. Everyone travels comfortably. Our summer home is 1,325 from our permanent home, and we do it pleasantly in two days, even with a dog. We also did 10,500 miles on vacation two years ago On the road we get 14 mpg (that's 112 people miles per gallon), and in the city we get 10 mpg. The air conditioning handles the Phoenix heat very effectively.

Nearing 36k miles, the V-10 is an excellent running engine, very smooth and quiet. Average 10-11 mpg city, 13.5 to 15 highway. No problems with oil consumption. Ride needed improvement, added B.F. Goodrich tires, Edelbrock shocks and heavier steering stabilizer. Now much more fun and safer to drive. Fit and finish very good, no rattles to date.

Our 2000 limited replaces a 1986 Suburban. We tend to keep our cars a long time. The Suburban was a reliable and hard working truck. Our Excursion is essentially the same size as our old Chevy, gets better gas mileage, and tows our trailer with ease. Mileage solo is a constant 15mpg on the highway, we do not use it as a town car. It is comfortable, quiet, and thus far reliable. The Excursion easily fits in our garage. We feel that our new truck is very appropriate for our life style.

Diesel the way to go.

A 7.3L Turbo Diesel is great on gas mileage up to 18 city 22 highway and still going. A little noisy, but not for men they love it. A little wide in the drivers seat. Can't rest arms and hold steering wheel comfortably. But excellent leg room. Slow moving from a start but look out after that.

I like this truck so much I went out and bought a new 2002 Excursion Limited Ultimate 4x4.I feel the Excursion is a better bang for your bucks.I will be honest my Excursion has the V10 and I only get 11 miles per a gallon.I have a relative that has the Suburban and they get about 13to14 mpg with it with the 5.3V8,also the chevys quality inside is very cheap looking.I quess both the Excursion and the Suburban have pros and cons.

I have had this thing for 30,000 miles now. Until now, there has been no problems of any kind. It is now in the shop for a front end squeal/grinding sound, probably a "driveline problem" according to the service writer at the dealership. I will let you know how the repair proceeds. I have a feeling I am going to be glad it is still under warranty. Has anyone else had this problem?

Diesel mileage and power outstanding. Interior comfort for family of 6 superior. Feeling of security superb. Respect of other vehicles on road unmatched. Keeping this one for at least 10 years. Down side is that intereior is slow to warm up in the cold weather.
