My Tahoe has over 256,000 miles on it. I had to replace the transmission around 190,000 miles. Unfortunately I had to replace the transmission with one that had 167,000 miles on it because it was hard to find another. Other than that, no major problems. Replaced tie rods twice, but the roads are full of pot holes here. Sadly, the break lines rusted and broke. I decided I am just going to let it go instead of fixing it. This truck has gotten my family through many winters and deep snow.

Bought my Tahoe w/175k in 2008. Yes, 175k. Had all the service records, so felt it was treated right. Has been fairly reliable in the last 25k. Oil pump went out, battery died on a hot summer day, 4x4 electrical selector switch went out ($20 @rockauto - 10 min fix). Now, I can hear the air ride constantly running, so i'm sure the shocks are leaking, but overall, I'm still happy w/this truck. Has TONS of room, 5.3 has nice power, and I'm getting about 16MPG city. Not bad for al you get. Ride is very nice and comfy. Great for road trips. Winter driving is awesome. LT has leather package, and is nicely put together. Great truck!

about 134,000 miles and still ruining smooth,i bought the truck some time ago and i did not know what i got into, until now i did research on this website and it states that the reliability is bad, but this truck has given me no problems, except i have to replace the differential around 114,000 miles which i didn't mind considering the miles, although it cost $1500,

At the time this was one of the largest single largest investments our family had made. 10 years later, well worth it. We just hit 170K and just had our first major repair - oil seals were leaking. We have done nothing to this truck except the usual - tires, batteries, brakes and oil/fluids. If you take care of these trucks they definitely take care of you.

With almost 160,000 miles on this SUV, I know I should be looking to replace it, but it still runs so good, I'm hesitating to let it go. I bought it with 50K miles on it and went to AMSOIL lube in the tranny and crankcase shortly after. It still burns no oil (20K between changes)and the gas mileage is now pushing 20 mpg on the highway. It's been awesome. At 70, I've had lots of cars in my lifetime, and this has been one of the best.

This is the very best SUV I've ever had the pleasure of driving. I couldn't have asked for a better looking or running vehicle. I've never had any problems with it, very satisfied. And very roomy. We have a family of 5 and everyone has enough elbow room to move around and be comfortable.

Great car. Just hit 150k. Handles effortlessly in deep snow and ice. Pretty good off road with 4wd low. Rides smooth when it doesn't have big snow tires on it. Very easy to drive and good turning radius. Handles nicely for an SUV. Hardly any major unexpected problems. Transmission needed work (not replaced) around 80k, but this was after towing a 5000lb + trailer around the country. ABS needed to be replaced around 135k miles. Plenty of power. Car cruises easily at 80mph at 2300rpm's.

I'm very pleased with my Tahoe after 74k miles. No transmission issues but have had the ABS module go out twice. First time was under warranty and the second time I had it repaired for about $200 instead of the $1,200 the dealer wanted. Also came with a 5 yr warr instead of 12 month. The rest of the braking system is great, still on original pads and rotors. Plenty of power to tow trailer and people. And even thought gas mileage isn't great, it's better than what some Ford and Dodge owners I know are getting.

I purchased my Tahoe used and have had a wonderful experience driving it. It is completely trustworthy and comfortable for a family with kids and dogs. Even with high mileage, I never worry about taking my 2 year old out in the elements. I just know this truck will get us to our destination. This is my second Tahoe and I plan to keep buying them because of the high quality and good looks. I just love it!

Great vehicle. Plenty of power but slightly sluggish. Handles towing perfectly. Only issue I have is the engine is noisy when I first start it. Sounds like a diesel. Once it warms up, it's fine. I'm told that it's piston slap and it won't harm the engine. So good so far.

I am extremely happy with my 2000 Tahoe. "Knock on Wood" I haven't had any problems with mine. Prior to owning a Chevy I drove Ford Explorers and there is no comparism. I had my share of lemons with Ford. My Tahoe currently has 88,000 miles and still drives like it did when it had 40,000. I would buy another Tahoe.

Purchased a 2000 Tahoe new, was going to try and keep for 10 years. It has been using a quart of oil every oil change, and now up to about a quart every couple months; poor GM, I guess they desire for the others guys to un-plug the life support.

This has been a great family vehicle. We love it. We use it to travel the east coast for vacations, fishing, hunting, sports, etc. It is great in all road conditions. On the beach (sand of N.C. OBX) or in the snow of VA it goes. Tow a trailer for working in the yard. It pulls it smothly. Would by another in a minute.

I love driving this horse. it is a cofortable cruising truck as well as a get up and go truck. The V8 kicks in smooth and the fuel mileage is not bad. We have added a few features along with the VCR. All the omforts of home with the exception of a bathroom. Chevy builds them tough, however they also realize that women prefer the comfort factors offered in the Tahoe.

The transmission went out at 70000 miles. The ABS system failed at 64000 miles. The vehicle was serviced only by the dealership and after numerous trips to complain about the ABS braking problem, it was never duplicated when tested by a service technician. Therefore the problem was never fixed. After the warranty expired, then and only then was the problem identified. I replaced the ABS system, the rotors, brake pads and the emergency brake pad at a cost of $1300.00. The dealership wanted over $2500.00 to fix everything. I want even begin to talk about the transmission being replaced. So, I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone, nor will I ever purchase another Chevy product.

I bought this vehicle used 18 mos ago with 29,000 miles. Fortunately it was still under mfg warranty and I was able to purchase an extended warranty for $1200. I have used the extended warranty twice in the past 3 weeks. The first time was for the Electronic Brake control module (ABS computer) $950. The second problem was another computer problem for the ignition system = $450. Otherwise I am very happy with the vehicle. We use it to tow our camper and it works great. But I am certainly glad we purchased the extended warranty.

The vehicle would be great except that the abs system went out, right at 37k, out of warranty. I know 6 other people this happend too, I think they should recall it. It cost 1000.00 to repair. I would'nt think anything but bad luck on my part if it was't for the fact that this problem has happend to 6 other people.

I traded in a 1997 Explorer LTD that was absolutely loaded. I didn't get as many options on the Tahoe, but what a difference in ride, acceleration, handling, etc. I always felt out of control in the Explorer, but the Tahoe sticks to the road like glue. I wish Chevy would stop putting cheap parts into $40,000 vehicles though. The interior really leaves something to be desired, and I have had 2 window motors go out in 2 1/2 years. They do a great job on engines/transmissions, but seem to treat everything else as an afterthought.

This vehicle is possessed! The windows open, the lumbar in the seats change, and the clock changes time at will. We rarely drive this vehicle due to its unreliability, but since it's leased, we're stuck with it. The dealership has done numerous repairs, but now that our 3 year warranty is over, we're on our own with the same issues, even though the vehicle only has about 32,000. Look at the Tahoes as you drive down the highway; notice how many new vehicles have light bulbs burned out? Not a well made vehicle; Chevy should be ashamed!

I've driven 4WD vehicles for 16 years straight now - 87 Subaru Wagon, 92 Toyota 4Runner, 98 Ford Expedition & 2000.5 Tahoe LT. While this vehicle beat the 98 Expedition hands down in many categories, i.e. handling, acceleration, fit & finish, etc. I figure for $40,000, it still has some room for improvement. I'm trying to buy American made (if there is such a thing), but I'm concerned that some unnamed foreigners, might be providing a slightly better value in this market segment. The Tahoe is still a global competitor (and I had the first year of the new Tahoe), but don't rest easy Chevy, the big truck market is no longer dominated by the good 'ol USA.

We purchased a used 2000 Tahoe with approximately 25,000 miles on it. It was our first used car purchase so we were initially a little apprehensive. Luckily, we have had no problems whatsoever (*knock on wood*). The main reason we bought the Tahoe was for its towing capacity, and we have not been disappointed. My husband trailers cars and when doing so with the Tahoe, you wouldn't even know it was towing unless you looked out the back window. Overall, our experience has been very positive. The Tahoe is a great vehicle. We would definitely recommend a Tahoe and purchase another one in the future, but we plan on keeping this one for a long time.

We waited for the 2000 model change and the "changes" were as promised. Jus had the brakes checked at 24,000 miles and they are still good to go! The only problems we had were with the back door electric window motors. Told the problem was a design flaw and the replacement motors have worked perfectly. I have driven off road, in heavy rain and snow and in heavy downtown traffic. I have towed several times as well. The Tahoe handled all tasks like a champ. I highly recommend the 2000 model and above.

I bought this truck three years ago just after they first shipped. It's been a great truck in general. My biggest complaints are the little things including 3 or 4 recalls. All were fairly minor, but still an inconvenience. Dealer service has been great while under warranty. The only major mechanical problem was the front end suspension had to be replaced even though we only drive 6000 miles per year.

Had transmisison problem 5 time, had transmission work every timeunder warranty. Almost died with my family on the highway after taking the SUV back from the dealership after they said it was fixed. Nothing but problems since, they changed the transmission twice, gaskets once, computer failure once....Chevy would not buy back the car under lemon law said I had to give them official notice before 18K miles. Looking to buy something other than Chevy.

FOR THIS MUCH POWER THE GAS MILEAGE IS EXCELLENT. 100 DEGREE HEAT IS NO PROBLEM FOR THE AIRCONDITIONING SYSTEM. EVEN FOR THIRD ROW. This is a definite improvement over the older generation Tahoe in areas of power, roominess and technology. It drives solidly (even off-road) and doesn't seem as mammoth as the Expedition. However, the transmission seems to be slipping occasionally and I still have yet to reach the EPA gas mileage estimates, averaging 12-14 MPG in 60% city/40% highway driving (EPA estimates indicate 14 City/17 Highway). Still, it’s not as thirsty as the Expedition and what you’d expect from a mid-sized V8 moving 5000+ lbs. around. The weatherstripping and interior trim has dislodged itself in a few select spots. Besides a few weaknesses, I’m happy with my Tahoe.

Having been a Chevy loyalist since my first car, I knew the Tahoe would be my next vehicle. The 42K sticker on a new LT was too high, so I started searching for a used 2000 model that was black and had the 3rd row seat. After 3 months of searching, I finally found what I wanted with 18K miles on it. I've only been it the vehicle for a few days, but I can proudly say the ride is awesome. I test drove a 2000 Eddie Bauer Expedition and it drove like a truck. The Tahoe seems more like a car. I still have to get used to the size. The engine is strong, nothing like a Chevy V8 pulling you around. The gas mileage is reasonable for a vehicle of this size. So I give the Tahoe 2 thumbs up.

I actually had settled on an Expedition and was shopping around when I decided to try the Tahoe. What a difference! The ride and power were a huge step up from the Expedition. The interior seats are soft and comfy, and I love all of the gadgets. I tow a trailer regularly (2-3 times a week) and I was amazed at how well the "tow/haul" mode worked. I was thinking that it would just turn off overdrive, but actually it changes the shift points to allow the vehicle to act like it does when it's unloaded. Also, the autoride feature is the bomb- it levels out the vehicle suspension when it's under load. Gas mileage is much better than the Ford.

Tahoe's are dependable for families looking for an affordable SUV. They could have a little better design crew for the interior. There are not any cup holders in the back seat besides the ones built into the center console that you have to pull out to use. Not all that easy to do when you have rear seat passengers and a car seat strapped in the middle of the seat. Overall a nice ride, but could have a few more luxuries for the price.
