after 17 years the Chevy Blazer still runs great. It is quiet and smooth and very comfortable. It is easy to bring your golf clubs and bikes and other toys when you travel. It is amazing in the snow. While it does need some maintenance, it still runs great and is very easy to work on thanks to Mark Jenkins Videos. Our other car is a Cadillac CTS 2008 and we take the Blazer on vacations. We have been able to find parts at a very reasonable price too. Our family has been loyal to GM for over 50 years. In that time we have had only 2 other non GM cars.

Love the ZR2!

I have had my LS ZR2 for 4 years and I love it! It does great in the snow, wonderful offroading capabilities, and the front seats are so comfy! I love how it handles and the power of the engine is great. The pickup is pretty good (it isn't a sports car). I have only had minor repairs in the four years I have owned this vehicle, the most major being the full pump. There are a few cons to this vehicle, as there are with all. The visibility is limited. After a while of driving it you figure out how to see everywhere you need to, but if you are not used to it, you need to be extra cautious. The recliner levers are poor quality, so make sure you don't yank on them to hard or try to force them (like my dad did) or you will break them. The fuel pump design isn't the best in these cars, it is gasoline lubricated. Meaning that when your tank gets below 1/4 you are drying it out. If you let it get that low too often, you will end up needing to replace it. I have found that it is better to fill it when it is down 3/4 instead of empty. If you wish for a longer life span of the fuel pump. Also, the two door style looks incredible! But it isn't very practical if you have kids of need to get in and out of the back a lot. Those are the only cons I can think of. overall, I think this is an amazing vehicle. And it's a lot of fun to drive (eespecially where there is not a road). With the experience I have had with it, I would highly recommend this car. Do keep in mind, I have a 2000 Chevy BLazer S10 LS ZR2. So it is not an ordinary LS, This is a specialty package for offroading. But I have heard great things about the LS as well. :)

Love this car.

I have had many cars in 40 + years. Never had one this long. 16 years old with 120 k on it and it does not use a drop of oil. Still a good modern looking car. And everything from the heated mirrors to ice cold air works well. Cheap to insure. Yet it still has some value. You can still pick these up in good condition and it not cost an arm and leg. It makes a decent 2nd car and a great 1st car. I think the best part of this car is the comfort and sense of safety and control of the vehicle. And the worst thing is - I cannot really come up with a bad thing. Clearly I am prejudice of this car. It's old, I'm old and we are comfortable. UPDATE 10/18/16 I had to part with Hesibel, it has gotten to the point where I was only putting a 100 miles on it a year. And sadly I wasn't one that planned well for an early medical retirement. I sold it for what I paid years ago to a young man in college. He's four hours from school and she's been treating him well. So that's the end of the road I guess. Other than if a person could have an affection for a vehicle this would be my pick. She just never let me down.

Had this LT 2000 blazer for around 10 years. Now has 156000 miles. 4x4 still works, did quit working at one time, replaced all vacuum lines , which were dry rotting and 4x4 now works, no problem since. CD player works all the time, crap its 16 years old so I surprised it still works! Had some overheating problem, just running hot.. replaced thermostat, antifreeze and radiator, problem solved. Antifreeze is still clean, didn't turn black like many GM cars. Motor hasn't been a problem, still runs strong. Have replaced plugs and wires and last summer replaced all rotors/pads and a caliper with GM parts from Amazon and did labor myself, brakes are great. Needs a lower ball joint and all the rubber bushings underneath the vehicle are rotten. Have replaced 1 side of the sway bar rubber bushings, the new blue ones look great. Car is starting to rust but that was a problem I noticed when I bought it, looks like it was from a northern state with a lot of road salt? The transmission did need a rebuild last summer, was told it looked like someone put the wrong fluid in transmission, cost 850 and now is great. I hate the little bulbs that light up the buttons on the steering wheel, should have used LEDS not bulbs! They can be replaced though. Rear wiper motor is fried but rarely used it will replace with a junk yard motor. Been a really good vehicle overall, gas mileage could be better but would buy again. Recently had over a foot of snow/ice. Car did excellent in 4wd with cooper tires.

I bought a white 2dr 2000 Chevy Blazer (yes called OJ because my mom thought it was a bronco) with 148k on it and it's been pretty great. It's very responsive to turning, acceleration is a little slow sometimes but once it gets warmed up it shifts really smoothly. No problems with the engine although we did find out later that we were driving without brakepads for almost nine months and the car still managed to not kill us. It's very spacious with the seats down in the back. The car is pretty comfortable and a great size, I tend to think of it as a lifted sedan. Pretty much a gas guzzler, averaging around 20 mpg. Sometimes it won't shift out of 4 wheel drive and the CD player doesn't work half the time, which are apparently common problems with the car. Otherwise no issues. I love it to death and would recommend it for anyone who needs a car with some cargo space or as aa starter car. They are really cheap so believe me it's a steal.

These cars are great to use as stunt vehicles to be driven off a cliff and explode on impact. If there was a trophy for the junkiest cars on the market, these would be among the top competitors. I have owned 3 GM vehicles, and after going through numerous adventures I can honestly say that GM builds their cars specifically to break down in various places over and over again, so the owner would be obliged to have it fixed repeatedly. This probably keeps the gm business somewhat afloat through the money invested into parts and labor. for anyone who wants to avoid headaches and frustration, buy Japanese cars that have proven themselves Reliable, Efficient, and Long-lasting,you will be happier

I bought my blazer in 2008, from the dealership, the gas gauge did not work. fixed. The first big investment was the intake gasket that went bad. It was replaced with a metal gasket, and shouldn't need replacing ever again. After that, it started acting very strangely...it would be going down the road, and start hesitating, or lose power suddenly. I went through and replaced plugs, wires, distributer cap and rotor, air filter, gas filter, battery, cat, and exhaust, the fuel pump sounds like it's screaming, it gets terrible gas mileage, and the front dash squeaks. So far to fix the hesitation issue, i've dumbed a bottle of sea foam in the gas tank, which has helped for now.

I had purchased my blazer, i needed the extra room, so i got it. This blazer has everything electronic, and leather seats. All the bells. My engine is the 4.3 V6 Vortec. Now i got to drive for two weeks. Then the intake gaskets went out, followed by the whole head. I had to purchase a new motor. Then the rear brakes went out. For those who have this model Blazer, watch out , because it is VERY common for these things to go out.

I have to say I bought this car in April and I have had to replace a couple of minor things. Ac needed to be recharged. Pvc value replaced. Fuel filter. But these are small. Now need to do the rear diff. Flush radator and do a trans flush. Drives good. Family has plenty of room on road trips. Would like better gas mileage. A radio that worked. Outside of all that if you can get one at the right price it is a ok deal. 4wd still works. Have used to move a friend into a different apt and it moved all of his stuff fine. Lots of space . Seats fold down. Great for kids who play sports !

Worth owning but needs "Tweaks"

Bought new in 2000. Been all over U.S. east of Miss. river on PGA since. Problems - Front seat recline handles break off, blind spot looking through small left rear window when turning left, AC Compressor weak (all GMs a problem with this), poor positioning of spare inside back left, exterior trim breaks down (plating on luggage rack, trim around rear windows, grill black trim, etc.), Stereo blows up around 30k locking the ignition and electrical. Overall a good ride though with good handling for a high riding SUV. Great acceleration (the V6 is mighty). Regular maintenance at 4000 miles gives you longevity. Would buy again.

Great, if you know what to look for...

I bought my Blazer used with 90K(kms) on it, and it's been a blast. This is my 5th Blazer/Jimmy, and they're great vehicles if you know what to look for. The following problems are a given after about 120k: ball joints, leaky oil lines, heater core, squeaky rear window, recliner handles will break off, door hinge bushings, and if not maintained properly, auto transmissions will probably go around 200k. If your vehicle still has Dex- cool in it (orange anti-freeze), I would highly recommend getting it flushed and replaced with the regular green stuff, and that may save you some headaches. The fuel economy is not great, but like most vehicles, maintain these properly and they'll treat you well.

This Blazer ZR2 was my first SUV, I loved it at first and still enjoy driving it, I just wish it was more reliable. I bought the truck with 111,000 and have put 63,000 on it. Trying to count the times it has left me out in the cold...I think at least 4 times. This truck has many issues. A rust hole I can stick my fist through, the gas gauge, CD player, seat handles, have never worked. I have replaced the catalytic converter, wheel bearings, intake gasket, PCV valve, alternator, radiator....the distributor corrodes so I must replace it every 6 months. More rattles than you can count on both feet....but a great backup vehicle nonetheless. Hate to sell it, Love me Blazer!

I currently own a 2000 chevy blazer and I thought I had a very reliable truck, however the truck is currently in the shop for lower manifold replacement due to a leak, new fuel pump about 3 months ago,new rear brakes about 2 months ago, fuel filter about 1 month ago, replaced alternator about 6 mos after I got it! replaced rad and hose 3 days ago! the list goes on! How can I remain true to a company when I have to foot all the bills!I wonder if GM bigwigs are driving Chevys? probably not!

This truck has served our family well from the standpoint of pure utility. Living in Wisconsin for several years, not once have I had trouble in deep snow or any inclement weather. We have taken this offroad and it's been great for that purpose. However, I have had to replace the transmission, the fuel pump (twice), wheel bearings (twice), ball joints, and my driver side window stopped working. There have been some electrical issues with the ABS, and my check engine light has been on for sometime. I really have enjoyed this truck, but mechanical issues have really plagued it. It has 154000 miles on it currently. The 4.3L Vortec engine has kept running strong though.

I have been maintaining on the police car/ taxi schedule which is double the norm. Three radiators, 5 ac systems. Transmission out at 42k, heater core and front differential out at 80k. Dealer set it on fire during repair so new ac, and half the engine. Then engine went out with rods or mains at 102K. New engine replaced 5k later with a knock (Jasper engine). New catalytic, engine light on for o2 sensor now. Looks great and get compliments on what great shape it is in and you can eat off the motor it is kept so clean. Over 16k in total repairs including fire damage. Wife hates it and when I got rear-ended she only hoped it was totaled. What happened Chevrolet? My Astro ran to over 275K.

I have the ZR2 off-road package, and overall this has been a dependable vehicle. Reasonably comfortable, low wind noise, rides well (for a 4x4), suspension package was a great investment - have gotten 70k miles w/o uneven wear on tires, fun little SUV for cross-country camping trips. 21 mpg highway, 15 city. It hasn't been without its issues. It does tend to have a lot of squeaks, cheap-o interior plastic doesn't help. The biggest problem I had was having to replace the transmission at 50,000 miles. Did have some premature ball joint replacement also. Heater core went out at about 110k miles, radiator cracked at 140k. Other minor problems such as malfunctioning thermometer and broken fuel ga

I have had nothing but problems ever since I bought this car.Rear seal replaced, differential, pins in the doors, front seat adjusting handles just break, computer, alternator, battery, gaskets and 5 yes 5 heater cores. The first 2 was covered by GM after I complained enough because the first 3 times i brought into the dealer there was a bulletin to flush the lines, which did no good, the problem ran past the extended warranty and blow out again, gm covered it. The problem came back cuz it was never fixed correctly. I know that GM/Dexcool had a class action law suite regarding Dex cool I signed up $back NEVER AGAIN GM

I love this SUV. I have had my Blazer for 4 years. I bought it when it had 70000 miles and now it has 141000. Just replaced heater coil @ 138000. Rotors @ 137000 and brakes. It sounds like it might have a rod knocking but only when it is really cold then the noise quits. Drives greats lots of power for a 6 cylinder. The interior is still in good shape. None of the seat problems other had talked about. Love that the back seats fold down and the tinted windows. I hope it keeps running to 300000 miles. Heater core only costs $65 but I installed it myself. Have to remove the entire dash to get to it and it's a pain to put back in, but I love the heat it puts out.

I bought my truck in Novemember 2001 upgrading from a Cavalier. The truck does great in the snow in MD without being 4WD. I have never had a major problem with it other then the handles on the both seats broke until now. It is paid for and everything has gone wrong with it. ABS brake light won't go out even after numerous trips to the shop, service engine light comes on all the time, I have no heat or A/C. Shop can't figure it out. Occasionally over heats, blower motor went up, ball joints have been replaced 2 times now, transmission starting to fail at 120,000 miles. I love my truck. Handles great but it may be cheaper to go buy a Tahoe!

I bought it new in 2000 with cash from my first real job, tired of driving economy cars in school. I liked the smooth ride on the highway, decent turning radius and fuel economy for a truck. Large rims, nice interior, very modern design for the time. I drove a girlfriend around in it for a couple of years, that was pretty sweet. Currently has 95k, girls are afraid of it. I've broken down on the road only twice so far. Things that went wrong... passenger seat handle -- warranty battery (almost drowned me in tropical storm allison) -- warranty dirty fuel injectors -- warranty battery again -- paid fuel pump -- $800 for the part busted radiator -- $300

This was my first car I bought on my own, second car to have. I bought it with 35,000miles, and a week later had to buy a new battery. Three months later had to buy a new alternator. A week later the seat adjustment handles broke off. At 40,000 miles the gas gauge went out. 60,000 miles, my heater went out and found out that I have a leak in my radiator so I have to fill that constantly, I also found an oil leak. Now at 72,000 miles, I have had to replace the bearings, brakes and rotors TWICE in one month. I wish I would have known about this web site before I bought my car. Be sure to research all cars.

We got our 2000 Blazer with a V6 vortec it has 86,000 miles on it. We put 16,000 on in 8 months. Our engine light has been on since about 1 month after we got it. We've had to replace the front drivers side wheel baring twice, our blower moter is going, sounds like a bird in our dash. Now we are having troubles with it lagging between 1st and 2nd gear. Garage said it was most likey our tranny. Passenger seat is very hard to move back and forth. The center arm rest is all dented in, cannot put a child car seat in the middle of the back seat. Head lights are very hard to see with at night. We also had to replace something can't remember the name, but it makes a loud humming noise when starte

Bought used, now have 78,000 miles on it and still love it. Had one major problem with it, the heater core went out in the dead of winter. I live in the Pacific Northwest so, it wasn't very fun. Core was replaced under warranty. Love the engine! Has great power and love the exhaust note! Heated leather seats are awesome and the memory feature is great. Driven it on quite a few road trips and it's very comfortable. Rides and handles nicely, I always feel safe. On the few times I've had to engage the 4X4, it worked just like it should. Felt really surefooted in the snow this winter. Gas mileage is fine, I'm not expecting high numbers, it's a 4X4. I didn't buy it for the gas mileage.

Owned Blazer for a year, proved to be fun to drive and handled snow well, but overall not pleased. The V-6 seemed really thirsty even with my unspirited driving habits and wasn't much for power. I rated low for good reasons. The seat trim on drivers seat trim was ripped off the first time my pant leg caught it, pass seat recliner handle broke off, weak door bushings and seal, interior rattled constantly. Service Engine lamp was almost constatly illuminated after repeated trips to numerous dealers and numerous pricey repairs. 4wheel drive was slow to engauge and even slower to disengauge, when equipped with swinging spare tire mount there is no additional support causing dents if opened to hard

Look up information before buying the 2000 or surrounding years. It has been nothing but problems. As soon as we hit 60k, things have just been in constant repair and I do all schedule maint. also. From Cheap alloy causing the recliner levels to snap off, Oil cooler lines going bad EVERY 14k miles (issue because of way GM routed them), Door hinges coming off after 130k. Clogged heater cores costing another $1k to fix, ball bearings and joints, Differentials. THis car is costing us an extra $100/month ever year to keep up but we cant afford another car loan at the same time. Do your research through google or anywhere else first. Worst vehicle I have ever owned. NO MORE GM for me.

This is my second SUV and I love this one. I owned a 96 Explorer before my Blazer. I wish my Blazer was the same size as the Explorer. I also wish my Blazer had rear air like the Explorer did. I love the 4.3L V6! Tons of power and revs almost to redline. I've never wished for more power. The dash color is not very pretty and I don't like the hump in the passenger foot well for the transfer case. Not alot of rear legroom behind me, I'm 6ft tall. Love everything else about the inside of my Blazer. Adore the heated seats and the seat memory feature. Only problem I had was the heater core went out, it was replaced under warranty. Gas mileage is fine, I didn't buy it for the mileage. Great 4X4!

First day I bought this SUV alternator went... it was covered by the dealership so didnt have to pay out of my own pocket. Bought this SUV with 79,000 miles after about 10,000 miles front right tire fell right off while driving due to trashed wheel bearing. ABS/brake lights always on even after replacing brakes. Strong engine great 4WD... I have the ZR2 version, love the raised suspension and big tires... lots of space behind 2nd row seats. Enough room for a 15 inch kicker in a 36 inch box.

This car drove great. Was my first car, got about 18 to 20 MPG city/highway. Only problem I ever had was the stupid seat recline handle but GM has a metal one for $15 and that one worked great. I was in a crash in October, I had new tires put on and one wasn't secured right by the mechanic and it broke free, the rear tire then blew, I went throght a wall and 2 trees before stopping on the third, this car saved my life. Drives really well, interior is very durable, 5 16 year olds couldn't destroy it so its very good. I would highly recomend this SUV.

I really have nothing bad to say about the ZR2. It is everything I had expected it to be. It's an SUV so the gas mileage won't be the greatest, I, along with other reviewers have had gas gauge problems but as long as I count the mileage I know how much gas is in the tank. I have had to replace the ball joints on each side, and put new brakes 2 years ago. Other than that I haven't had a problem with the truck. It just turned over 100,000 miles, a couple years ago I saw a Ford F-250 stuck on a guys lawn trying to pull out his tractor that was on a Big Tex Trailer. I asked him if he needed any help and my Blazer pulled both the truck and the Big Tex(with tractor on it) right out of the mud.

I bought the Blazer when it was 4 years old and had 64000 miles. It ran good, but within one month, I brought it in for a new exhaust system, o2 sensor, fuel injection system, and transmission issues. Since then, I have brought it to the dealership on three different occassions which needed to have other mechanical parts replaced. No major issues but many minor problematic parts have had to be replaced. Buy an extended warranty if you get one because these will use it up. Otherwise, the SUV rides decent and has always been dependable as it always starts and has never leaked fluid.

When I first bought it - I was excited to have an SUV becasue of the space (I upgraded from a '92 Cavalier) But from the start I had problems getting it started (which turned out to be a fuel pump issue that we figured out 3 years later). I, like a lot of other people on here, had fuel gauge problems, even after the pump got fixed - and I replaced the wheel bearings and ball joints twice! Gas mileage stinks - even for an SUV - and it doesn't really handle that well. I was always replacing brakes and rotors -and the spare tire blocking all the rear visibilty was brutal. If you are not in 4WD, it's terrible in the snow - and even in 4WD it's marginal at best.

90,000 miles and still going strong. Blazer has some competion though, my 86 S-10 is still going at 175,000 miles. I wanted a full size truck but will be happy hauling the family, plowing through the snow and pulling the camper with this little powerhouse ... for now. Of course gas mileage isn't as good as my Cavalier. It's a truck. Even if I could get 50 mpg I sure I would want 51. Fuel pump went out, 1 rear speaker and passenger seat lever went out. All three under warranty. Nice to see GM has increased warranty to 5 years/100,000 miles. Must be pretty confidant.

This vehicle has been nothing but problems and repairs. Has 80,000 miles and my mechanic tells me this thing is having problems that shouldn't be happening until well over 100,000 miles. Replaced altenator twice, replaced fuel pump, gauges don't work, every little thing in the passenger compartment rattles when you are going down the road. Started changing oil at 2,000 mile intervals, because of the incredible amount of sludge I had draining from the oil filter when I would change the oil. Just an overall piece of junk.

I bought this car in June of 2006 with 64,000 miles on it. By July 28, it was in the shop for a new heating core and radiator problems. It is now September 18 and it has been back in the shop since Labor Day getting a new motor. Labor Day we were taveling to see family, and it broke down on the side of the road. The rods and bearings were shot among other things. I love the features of this SUV, but should have had it inspected first. The mechanic says that Blazers are known for these type of problems. Warning: it does drive like a truck so expect rattles, squeaks, and a little rough riding etc.

Driving in the snow has been a great experience. Although MD does not get much of it, the large snows proved to be quite enjoyable to drive in using the 4 wheel drive (both Hi & Low). The switch from 2 wheel to 4 is virtually seamless with the button controls. The height of the chassis allows the ease of going over high piles. 6 cylinder engine provides a great get-up-and go and the power to tote heavy loads around. Easy to maintain vehicle.

I have a black 2000 ZR2 Blazer with 53k on it now, had 24k when I bought it a little over 3 years ago. I like the looks and features, but have had a lot of the same problems others here have posted. Ball joint on passanger side went bad, seat level on passanger seat broke. Tons of rattling of panels of doors, and in the back, spare tire blocks 96% of view to the rear. Gas gauge broke, heater core went, cd player went dead, and the sun roof had to be changed out 3 times. The MPG for this SUV stinks and the power seems to be bad during the hot summer days, at least mine is like that. With all those problems, I still like the car, but would trade it in if I could.

This is a solid vehicle for the price. I purchased mine when the '03 TrailBlazer came out and the price on them was great. Keep in mind that now as I consider replacing it, I see the opposite end with the low resale value. I I purchased mine with 26,000 miles and three years later have 98,500 on it. It has been solid. I've had to replace both front hub assemblies, the rear pumpkin cover, replace the door hinges (the top one broke off) and replace the license light bulb wiring. The total of the repairs was around $2500, which is why anyone buying a SUV should definitely consider an extended warranty. It has great legroom (I'm 6'5") and is wonderful in the snow where we get 150"/yr

I've actually considered seeing if it was a lemon but by the other reviews on here I'm guessing I should have done the research and expected it. Every thing everyone has mentioned having problems with I have do the same and some more. I'm a college student and constantly breaking the bank on repairs for this. I will never buy a Chevy again. I have spent close to $5000 on repair in 3 years of having it. Gas gauge, ball joints, rotors, bearings, rear axle, pittman arm, seat handle, wiring, lights on the dash, heater core. The repairs take all the fun out of this automobile unless you have deep pockets.

Cars like the Blazer make me consider buying an import. Design is mundane, and at times poorly thought out- i.e. spare tire on 2DR either obstructs rear visibility or eats up too much cargo room. The car has required quite a bit of repair work for light duty use and consistent preventative maintenance. Brakes have twice required major work; I've replaced a couple of bearings, and installed new door hinges to keep it from leaking. There are numerous other "minor" problems, such as a defective fuel guage that I've just decided to live because of their cost to repair. Bottom line: the Blazer is a reasonably priced SUV, but low expectations are the key to avoiding dissapointment.

She likes it, with the exception of the many blind spots this vehicle has. I enjoyed driving it and loved the Acceleration the 4.3 6 cylinder has compared to my 2.2 S-10. The car is a 2 dr with a black exterior. It reminds me of a Lexus wagon...has those same kinda lines. I have had many people say: That sure is a sharp Blazer." Mileage isn't anywhere near the Grand Am 4 cyl or the S-10 4 cyl. This Black Beauty get at most 17 around out suburban area and maybe 23 on the highway. It's a nice SUV.

Perhaps we should have not leased this vehicle for 5 years, but the reliability as well as mechanical functions are starting to fail. The vehicle will shift itself into 4 wheel drive. We have had it in for service for this, and the dealer cannot find the reason why it is doing this. The front brakes especially are awful, and they have had to be replaced way too often. I don't drive a lot of miles to work, or drive the vehicle a lot in general. Not a lot of excess wear and tear to explain the need for the brakes to be replaced as frequently as they have been. And gas mileage is terrible. My hubby's F-150 gets better gas mileage than the Blazer does. A lot of squeaks and rattles while driving.

The front wheel bearings went at 80,000 miles. A rear axle noise started at 81,000. The axle seals were bad when we got it. The rear u-joint was replaced at 60,000. Also had some other minor problems. I would probably never buy another one. I love Chevy, but don't care for the Blazer at all. At least not this one!

70,000 miles and going strong. It's used daily for work, is great in the snow, and very good offroad also. Front balljoints had to be replaced after the VERY rough winter and many potholes, but this was understandable (we hit quite a few hard bangers!). Some rattles on very rough roads, but no other real problems. Overall I like this vehicle very much. It has been very practical and reliable, for everyday use and very long trips, including a cross country expedition. Those who complain and say their next vehicle will be some foreign made thing must have an anti-American made vehicle bias, because there is nothing with this vehicle that would cause such disgust.

I bought this suv used a year and a half ago with 53,000 miles. I've had no problems so far. I have the ZR2 package and the truck is great in the snow. It handles well off-road for a smaller SUV. Minor problems are the factory speakers and plastic. The rear window latch squeaks from wear on the the latch bar, but if you wrap the latch bar with some tape it goes away. Gas mileage is not the best but it's an SUV not a Toyota. Overall I'm pleased with the Blazer.

I've owned this vehicle since October 2000 and am very happy with it. I purchased it with the OEM towing package, but haven't needed to use it. The 4x4 works well in the Long Island winter (as well as in Westchester!) The only problem I encountered was needing to replace the rotors after 25K miles (but I'm in a lot of stop and go traffic)

Bought my 4WD 2000 LS Blazer brand new, and didn't have any problems until about 25,000 miles. Now it seems like it's falling apart. Just got a quote for $2400 to fix the door hindges and pins, replace a leaking oil line, and fix the ball joint on all the tires. Apparently the tires were in danger of falling off!! This seems ridiculous for a 4 year old car with only 30,000 miles on it. Oh yeah forgot to mention that it needed a whole new computer system (whatever that is), and needs a new sending unit for the gas tank. That's right, we have no idea how much gas is left in it. I'm now thinking of trading it in.

Purchased this 2000 Blazer in 12-2002 with 39800 miles. Have experience excessive chassis wear (idler arm replacement, lower ball joints replaced, and poor quality hardware (door hinges needed repair, passenger seat recliner release broke off. In addition, the turn signal, cruise, windshield wiper control on the steering column failed causing failure of the turn signals( a $250 repair). In addition, the brake rotors needed to be machine due to warping and the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. All of these repairs were made since I bought the vehicle. The current mileage is only 58000. This vehicle get absolutely no off-road, or commercial use.

Bought this car used in 2002 with 28,000 on it. We just hit 85,000 and so far we needed; transmission, fuel pump, climate control, upper and lower ball joints, rear wiper motor and defrost lines, and we had to have the 4x4 replaced. However, this was all under an extended warranty. That said, the cars been offroading once or twice and is sometimes driven hard. The 2000 trailblazer is the most comfortable, attractive SUV on the planet. White with the gold package and 2 tone leather, you feel like a celebrity. Excellent on road ride, and incredibly capable off road/in snow (Fantastic in snow!). And the interior is incredibly comfortable. Worth the hassle, I love this truck.

Good fuel economy for a mid-sized SUV. V6 is a bit underpowered for it's 5000- lb towing rating. Avoid premium or standard suspension as handling is sub- par. Recommend upgrading to touring suspension and going with a vehicle that has the OEM towing package as it handles much better. Few quality/reliability issues experienced in 85K miles.

Took delivery 12-99. Most problems have been on the quirky side. Door weather strips, passenger seat handle, drivers door bushings have been replaced. Only major expense at 57,000 miles so far has been the fuel pump. I love extended warranty coverage. Backseat might be a little tight for three growing kids. Over all a good buy. Will keep until we outgrow it. Even then it might hang around as a second car. By that time my 86 S-10 with 170,000 miles might be ready for retirement.

Rides like truck, drives like a truck, must be a truck. Nice size for long trips, with decent gas mileage. If you want great gas milage buy a Honda. During 6 month ownership A/C compressor replaced under warranty, front ball joints replaced under warranty, oil coolant lines replaced under warranty, ignition harness replaced under warranty. Its a used car with 40k on it. I paid less than half for a new one, with an extended warranty lasting as long as a new car warranty does. For the $15,000 I saved I bought a boat!

Ive had my blazer about 5 months, and purchased it with 38000 miles on it. I had it less than 2 hours when a friend broke the seat recliner off when trying to get to the back seat. I love the ZR2 even though the ride is that of a F- 350. rough, and loud. when it comes to actual function im not as enthusiastic. The HEAVY spare tire mount has no re- enforcement so the second you dont latch it all the way and the wind blows...... 2 HUGE dents. The plastic on the seat is something you constanly bump entering and exiting the vehical... Mine is broken.... Overall, i wish ford made something that looked as cool in a small SUV.

I have had this vehicle for 3.5 yrs now, and it has 84k miles on it. Up to this point, I have had no major work performed aside from standard maintainance. The levers for both seats did break off and I had a few fuses blow for the power windows. A bit of an inconvenience, but nothing that wasn't easily remedied. The blind spots are aweful, and the suspension is terrible. There is a lot of rattling and the spare tire is positioned terribly. Pretty poor design and not that great of a ride. Don't buy one. The Dex-Cool Antifreeze that is required if you don't want to void the warranty causes premature engine failure by eroding the seals at around 60,000 miles. If you don't get the extended warranty this damage will cost you thousands for a new motor! The front wheel bearings also tend to go bad early. Check consumer websites before you buy.

Firm believer that chevy could have done a much better job on many items. But as a pet peeve why does chevy continue to use the plastic bushings in the door hinges? They never last. The replacements are brass. Why not start there to begin with?

I purchased this car because of it's stylish apperance. However, in the two years that I have had it, I have replaced almost every major portion of it. It has been in the shop almost twenty five times in 18 mo. The suspension went out at 39,000 miles. I have had several electrical problems with every electrical component in it. The radio cuts out for no reason, the window motors have been replaced, the alternator, the battery, the speakers, the power locks fuses (12 times before the problem was found.) The car is beautiful and everything I need, but it's in the shop and the driveway more than I drive it.

True, it has a lot of plastic but it isn't as bad as some say. What do you expect? This isn't a luxury SUV. I have the Bose stereo with 6 cd changer and it sounds great. I have nearly every option available on it. I truly love driving it each day. All of my friends love the way it looks. Like a rock. No trouble with baby seats and so on, it was good when the kids were really little for all their stuff in the back. We did some very long trips in it and it never let us down. I don't ride it hard or off road, HOWEVER, by 60000 miles the transmission blew, the hub assembly had to be replaced and every little thing inside has fallen apart or off (ie the seat adjuster). It's been nothing but a money pit. I can't get ANYBODY to buy it and the dealerships almost laugh when I drive in asking about a trade. Big time money sucker. This car is nicely designed and provides you with a quite ride - compared to other SUVs in it's class. If it ever rides. I am driving this vehicle now since 12000 miles (bought it with 40k): extended break job, front bearring, front balljoint made noises, but was still tight, oil cooler line, idler and pitman arm, torsion bars are weak, transmission, RUSTY and BROKEN DOOR PINS and a TONN of undefined noises. Even my little french compact car I was driving in europe for 3 years (what was not good at all!!)was better in quality than this crapy car. We leased this SUV, and paid entirely too much for it! But, it has been very good to us. We haven't had to take it in for anything major, only minor cosmetics. However, the interior is cheap, and very small. We have to kids, and once they and their car seats are in the back, there's no room for anything else. Also, the spare tire is on the side of the trunk, which takes up precious space! The gas mileage is alright, but typical for an SUV. Buy this only is you can get an AMAZING deal!

Next was the Mechanical problems.2 sets of Oil Cooler lines by 25,000 miles, the Muffler at 18,000,Seat recliner handle, Transfer case leaks. Now at 40,000 miles I have some kind of Suspension noise.I'm now going to trade this dissappointment in.

I drive approximately 30K miles a year. I've only had my Blazer for repairs twice and the only problems that I had were a bad gas cap and a rattle inside of the door. My Blazer has been a pleasure to drive and the maintenance that I perform my self is easy to do. At 89K miles, I still have the factory brakes and shocks. Aside from replacing the remote oil filter lines, I have had no problems with my vehicle.

Not sure if it will last!

Bought mine as a GM certified used vehicle with 34400 on it. And like many others in the reviews, mine has been in the shop alot and I do take care of mine with routine maintenance! Shocks had to be replaced at 35000K, & seals at 36000K, pinion bearing, steering column problems, wheel bearing, rattles at the door trims, etc. The whole vehicle shudders at 60 - 65 MPH, and forget driving really fast like 75-80 MPH, it really shakes then! I bought this vehicle with the intent of keeping it for a long time, however, even with proper maintenance, I find myself wondering if it will last past 60000K!

Bought car with 20k miles on it. Since then, I have put about 35k on it, and have had nothing but trouble. Things that broke: Alternator, A/C, recline handle, axle seals, transmission, power locks, windshield wiper switch. Probably missing some, but that's what I can remember. Vehicle drives well, has decent power, and is comforatable.

I bought my Blazer when my '91 Beretta died last March. Three weeks after I bought it driving on I-80 from Sacramento to Tahoe it starts smoking. We pull over, open the hood, & tranny fluid had leaked, overheated and ignited in the manifold. We have it fixed. Should've returned it (dumb!). Two weeks ago the tranny starts slipping, and the truck shakes when brakes are applied. Back in the shop. Tranny & brakes are done. It has 27k miles. Should've just fixed my Beretta & kept it, at least it was paid for. Gave me a lot let headaches in the 8 years I had it than this stupid thing. Or I should've bought a new 4 Runner.

Funny reading some of these reviews. All the same problems. 3 years, 12 times repairs. Took them awhile to fix the 4X4, the power sunroof, the rear electri noise tailgate, hub cap fell off, seat adjuster broke, would not go into 4X4, then stuck in 4X4. It was deffinatly a lemon. Mechanically, (other than the 4X4) it is an OK good truck. Always started on the first shot... never any engine problems. The rear wheel makes it impossible to see out the back window, and the 4X4 transfer case sits on the floor on the passenger side making it short of foot space. Too bad too cause I really did the look of the truck!

had this 2000 balzer 1 year. replaced oil cooling lines, rear brakes and rotors. noise from front end at 36000 turns out to be ball-joints. dealer noticed oil cooling line leak, again. GM says "sorry, its wear and tear" Northstar chevy will only charge me 384 to fix the oil line, while the guy next to me is getting his covered. same with the ball-joints. s-10's i have found have oil line and ball- joint problems that chevy just doesnt care about. do your self a favor and get a ford. oh yeah, dont think the extended warranty will help you. gm told me they couldnt verify any maintanence on my vehicle. thats because the dealer charges way to much.

This Blazer has been solid as they come. What many fail to realize is that this is a truck, not a sports car, not a luxury car and it's not a 454 Silverado. This is a 6 cylinder small SUV. The interior is tough and designed to be rugged. The ride is pretty good. I've done a lot of off road driving and this little Blazer works well in those conditions. It also performs well during snow conditions on the highways. The gas mileage is a little less than what I'd like but I accepted that fact the day I bought it.

I had spent 4 months researching and testdriving SUVs, and finally decided on a 2000 Blazer. It had 64K miles on it when I bought it, but in mint condition. It's only been a few months, but I am very happy with my purchase. No problems at all. I think I got more for my money than any other SUV. As for reliability, like I said, I have had it for only a few months, but my boyfriend has an '89 GMC Jimmy (identical twin of the Blazer) and it is still going strong. Highly recommended!

Never again. Bought a 2000, made a lemon-law claim due to problems with the drive-train (front or rear??? they could never figure it out). Replacement vehicle has same thing but not as bad. Now, with 50k miles and out of warranty, front ball joints are shot ($1600-1800), pwr steering pump leaks, tie rods bad, etc. Only problem, never taken off road! Now I learn front end problems very, very common on S-10 models. I am the 3rd person I know with same problems. Never again!

My 2000 Blazer has been a quality truck. The ride is smooth. The engine does it's job, but wouldn't mind having a trailblazer engine in it. Didn't opt for the 4WD and haven't really needed it even though I live in Chicago. Great cargo space and enjoy how the back seats fold all the way down not like other SUV's. Haven't had any repairs other than the routine maintenance. The LT package was worth the money.

Well, first off being 17 years old, i do know a lot about cars. My father is a car dealer. We researched this car for a long time, compared it to other cars, and test drove many. The ZR2 by far was the best in reliability, engine power, and safety. My parents wanted me to drive something new, and safe. My 2002 ZR2 is a great buy, and I have had ZERO trouble with it. Hopefully if you want something that rides great, is very stylish, and can take you wherever you want to go, you will take my advice and choose the Chevrolet Blazer ZR2.

Good view up front, some blindspot problems in rear as 2 door version. Hit from pass. side ($12,000 of damage)-walked away no problem (don't know about front crash test firsthand, though). Only problems: O2 sensor on day 1 - dealership took care of rapidly, new alternator - but this was from accident (cracked), battery, and lumbar support on both sides.

After a year of driving my Blazer, i must admit that its a keeper. True enough, I made a bad choice of purchasing my truck with 57,000k on the motor at only a year old. But, after a tune-up and changing the air filter from AC Delco to K&N, i've seen a massive improvement. Since having the truck i've driven out of State, to and from the same location twice, once before and after the changes. The first trip took three full tanks of gas, but the second only took two full tanks. So, that was basically one full tank of gas extra in my pocket. And, the filter also improved my performance.

This was a lease that was going to be purchased when lease came to term. That isnt happening. The ZR2 is a great ride, very comfortable, very reliable, but it has its flaws. Fuel economy cant be an issue with an SUV. Anyone that thinks they're going to get 30+ MPG isnt. There were problems with the outside spare tire carrier latch (corrected), the seat adjusters broke repeatedly (corrected, but at a constant inconvience), the sunroof leaks (still not corrected), and it does rattle alot when going over bumps. Quality control definately went down the tubes on this model year, so I believe the next purchase will be a 99 blazer. Hopefully less problems.

My second Blazer - First one went for 70m miles with just a brake job and tires - I thought ok lets do it again- Well Chevy must have shut down their Quality control the day this car was built!!! 4wd problems - brake problems- noises coming from every corner of the car. Gas gauges stopped working. 2m miles out of warranty both front wheel bearings gone -$1700 job- I told GM this is a leased vehical, you know where you can stick it! At least they were honorable enough to agree and pick up the tab - Will never buy a Chevy again!!!!!!!!!!!!

The vehicle is very well insilated. Interior Elements: Great contrast in color, patterns, fabrics- better than the redesigned version for 2003. --too monotoned. Exterior:style wise, the rear wheels are pulled in to far in the wheel wells where as the front are almost flush with outside fender. looks weak in the rear. Shape: narrow body -- relax on the roundness. trucks are squared -- Cherokee Classics still haven't changed the exterior for decades and yet continue to sell. Basically take care of your vehicle, do the maintence and your fine. things breaking and parts replaced that don't work --- complain to the dealer rather than the parts.

My Blazer has been in the shop more times than I care to count. I've had the catalytic converter replaced, the transfer case for the transmission replaced, oil leaks sealed, passenger seat handle replaced, driver side lumber replaced, third brake light replaced, roof rack and rear window molding re-painted, tire rack repainted, inside paneling reseated which still rattles with every bump. It also was leaning to one side in the front. My Blazer is at the dealer now because my driver side window does not work, and there is a loud thump that comes from the right wheel well. It barely as 17,000 miles on it. Not at all worth the headaches.

I researched every truck made before I bought mine.I read alot of bad reviews on Blazers and mostly good ones for foreign trucks. I've driven them all.But this 2000 ZR2 (not a pickup) is definitely the all around best truck I've ever had. First, for an SUV it gets great gas mileage.Second, it's just about as powerful as the Durango I had which also is good but I drive 50,000 miles a year so I needed better gas mileage. It's even faster than the Durango. It is by far the most agile and absolutely the best handling truck I've ever driven including the Jeep GC. I also carry upwards of 800 lbs. on the worst roads in the country (NJ) and the suspension remains perfect.

Shortly after that i Had 3,000 miles on it it developed a noise in the front right passenger seat area, the dealer twice said there was no problem, after taking it to another dealer they said the heater box was broken...they fixed it and the repair, haha, lasted about three months. The steering shaft had to be replaced at 12,000 miles It made a terrible noise it sounded like it was going to shear off. Lastly the wagon rode like a pick-up truck with a plow package

I've had absolutely no problems with my '00 Blazer. It's been very reliable since I got it. The interior is very functional and laid out to my liking. Engine has plenty of pep. The exterior has held up so far and its looks are better than other mid-size SUVs. Chevy trucks are almost always a good bet. I've got a year left on my lease and I'm probably going to miss this truck as I don't think there will be any Blazers left to lease now that the Trailblazer is available. I'd buy this one, but the residual is way too high, which is how I got the great lease deal! I hope that Chevy can find a way to keep them around.

Bought used. Have put approx 20k on the Blazer. During the summer on extended trips I got 24mpg. Limited snow this year so I have not had alot of chances to test it out in bad weather. Handles well w/o AT Tires. No problems yet. Rides well.
