210,000 miles and still drives like new

I purchased this car new towards the end of 1999. This car has performed amazingly well, is fun to drive, responsive, reliable, handles great, has plenty of power, is comfortable, and is surprisingly affordable regarding repairs. This is an everyday car for me. It has rarely broken down. Here would be the wishes: A glass rear window instead of plastic (I replaced the top once since owning the car, but the plastic window will start to get a yellowish tint over time), a spare tire (this car doesn't have one and if on a long trip and getting a blow out could be an issue- but I have not had this happen to me), an automatic hard top convertible instead of cloth (nitpicking), cheaper replacement speakers (the bass driver mounted on the center console behind and to the right of the driver blew out and is about $600.00 to replace- can't use a generic speaker). Total repair costs since I purchased this car are about $10,000- which is pretty good for a 16 year old car with over 200,000 miles on it. Without a doubt the best car I have ever owned and one I continue to greatly enjoy- hopefully for another 200,000 miles! I highly recommend this car.

I bought this car from someone who babied the heck out of it and I have continued the tradition. It's a great car that delivers impressive performance, a bit of sex appeal, and much better than expected economy. However, the stock stereo was awful and suspension components were iffy.

Bought the M with relatively high mileage (79K) but it is in great shape. Handles as though it is on tracks and accelerates, in all gears. Like it has jets. Long drives can be a bit difficult (I am almost 6'2" and the seats are a slightly bit hard, but if I take a break every 2 hours, no problem. It's a fun car, always noticed (ty, the cops too :( ) but a real treat to drive. I think I like the lines of this model more than the Z4 but would love to have some of the improvements of the newer Zs -- slightly wider interior, more comfy seats, and a fully automatic top. Otherwise, it's a dream.

Bought new with 3 miles on it. Love the 60s style dash and gauges. Great performance. Very reliable, never broke down on me, never. At 43k miles, still has the original brakes and I autocross with it. No shop repairs, just maintenance. I do maintain it very well and everything is like new. I have no intention of sell this car unless someone hits me. Great car.

Wonderful tossible car, great engine. There are some inherent design problems, i.e. the shock mounts, lack of cross bracing, an awful cd/radio system, a plastic rear window, and an off center steering wheel. It is a strong solid perfomer nonetheless and I think, though not as good a car as the z4, it is a hell of a lot more interesting.

I bought this car to replace my 1994 M3, I don't regret buying this car at all. I love it, the amount of torque an power and the handling capability make this car oh so fun. Going from 60-90mph takes only a couple seconds without a down shift. Going through the twisties proves to be even more fun, going twice the speed limit through the turns makes this car an ultimate driving machine. Only a few thousand of these were sent to the US so you're not passing one every day and there's not gonna be one next to you at a light. The steering is precise and quick and the car goes wherever you point it. Not a hint of body roll an the car feels like its never gonna lose traction. This is one hell of a car!!!

Very fun car to drive, especially if you can find some curves. Northwest Arkansas is very nice to "test" the curves. We 1st had a 1997 1.8 Z3 and the power difference is amazing. Power is addicting... never too much. No mechanical issues. Since car has been lowered with H&R springss, it is very hard on tires. Khumo's ride and perform the best overall. and are afforable $ 115. Very safe cars, I was T boned by a truck at 45mpg and it only knocked the wind out of me. Door held up very well and prevented truck from sitting in my lap. If you can find a well maintained M buy it.

This is a very stylish car which begs to be driven. My first test drive I was amazed by the front end power which the Roadster gave. From that point on I was sold. Great car, reliable, and fast! Fun to drive.

I sell BMW's and when I saw this car I had to have it. This is a lot of performance for the money. The great thing about this car is that it is an everyday driver and a track car built into one. It has a lot of creature comforts as well as more than enough performance. Oddly enough I am 6'6" and I still fit into this car. BMW's are great for tall people like myself. These are pretty rare cars, if you get the chance to buy one at a fair price I would jump on it. I will say though that people either think that this is the coolest car that they have ever seen or they think that it looks like a tyco toy version of the batmobile.

I bought this car three weeks ago. In that time I have put over 3000 miles on the car. I think the car could use a little more power but 240 HP is not bad at all. I wish I could tilt the seats themselves, not the back rest. When you are driving you seem to block the clock. I drive this car very hard and I still get above 20 MPG! With most cars I have felt the need to speed to have fun but you will have fun with this car going the speed limit. I can reach everything very easily and I can hit the ASC botton when my hand is on the stick. Build quality, are you kidding me, its a bmw, it dosen't get any better than that. I have 107000 miles on my M roadster. It was a CPO.

Since selling my Z3 and purchasing my first M, its been the funnest car yet. After pushing it to 136mph, it felt smooth as silk. BMW really knows how to make the Ultimate Driving Machine. Although the car still seemed hungry for more speed, it pretty much topped off at 136. They didn't make the M model for the hell of it, they made it for the power. Put a rear wing on it, it will stand out more.

The only thing different between this car and the one from the cartoon, is that my car is silver (w/blue-black interior) and I don't have all those nifty gadgets. However, it blows away, performance-wise, nearly every car on the road (exceptions being $100K+ porsches, ferraris, and some corvettes). I've had other sports cars in the past, but this is by far the most exhilerating drive of my life! At 130mph, with the top down, it's still as smooth as a hot knife through butter. I'd be tempted to get the full DINAN upgrade (another $35K though), but I'd be too worried with all that ADDITIONAL performance, I'd probably kill myself.

Since purchasing a 2000 M Roadster last summer, I'm still looking for any excuse to drive it! The car had only 15,000 miles on the odometer when I bought it and even though I live only a couple of miles from work, I use my days off to explore some of the more deserted canyons in and around the L.A. area. The amazing thing is that I expected the car to much more finicky than it has proven to be . . . get in and go has been the rule since day one. The only down side is the dismal gas milage which has hovered in the mid- teens most of the time, but is probably more due more to my heavy foot than any fault of the vehicle.

I purchased my 2000 M Coupe (June 1999 build date) used with 28000 miles on odo. Replaced shocks and springs with Koni Sport single adjustable shocks and Dinan springs. Have had most of the applicable TSB up-grades applied under warranty to include fuel sending unit, rear wiper washer valve, transmission detent pins, and ECU software revision. Warranty repairs include A/C compressor replacement and rear half-shaft seal replacement. This car sees many high speed track miles driven at Driving Schools. It's not a practical daily driver. Most fun car I've ever owned.

Absolute performance at its finest! It's way too easy to cruise in the 80's and 90's with the top down, a smooth (highway) road, and no cops around. Seats hold you in place when cornering, however, they aren't the most comfortable. The M version stands out amongst its Z3 cousins in both appearance and performance. A silver one, with the black/blue interior has no equal.

I've had very few problems with the car over the last 5 years. And the OEM tires are still on it at 25,000 miles! Still a blast to drive. I recent drove the TT Turbo and the Boxster S, and I turned them down for my ole BMW!

Even after 4 years, this is still the ultimate car for me. It's performance will keep up with any car on the road, and its style turns heads. More than any other car I've driven, the M Roadster feels "connected" to the road. My 6 foot 1 inch frame fits nicely in the car, something not possible in an NSX or S2000. After 4 years, not a single problem to report.

If BMW is the "ultimate driving machine", the M Coupe is the ultimate of the ultimate driving machines. This car must be driven at all times. It is as responsive as any vehicle I have ever driven. It signals to the driver every nuance of the road and what is about to happen to the car before it happens. This makes for a rigid ride but it also permits you to push the car into a sharp turn at seemingly impossible speeds. Tires make a big difference with this car so recommend you choose only those premium tires that will provide the mix of "stickiness" and "wearability".

Beautiful car that is a blast to drive. I believe in the years to come this car will be highly desired by collectors and car enthusiasts for its gracious curves and powerful engine. This car should stand the test of time very well. I have owned my M roadster since May 2000. Other than to replace a defective CD player, the only time this car has spent in the shop was for standard maintenance. 22k miles and going strong as ever.

The car is a hoot to drive and turns heads. The paint on the front hood tends to get beat up with rocks, especially the black color. The resale value of these cars fell quite a bit in the past few years. I love the car - replace the dunlops with Khumos - much better. Every option is nice and the hardtop is very quiet.
