FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3800 V6 (L36) ENGINES AND CERTAIN DELPHI FUEL PRESSURE REGULATORS, THE REGULATORS HAVE A MUCH HIGHER THAN USUAL RATE OF FUEL LEAKS. A LEAK CAN ALLOW FUEL TO ENTER THE INTAKE MANIFOLD THROUGH A VACUUM LINE. IF THE ENGINE DOES NOT START WHEN CRANKED, THE FUEL FROM THE LEAKING REGULATOR AND A MISTIMED SPARK CAN CAUSE A BACKFIRE.

Bought this car August 2009 w/ 127k miles as my first car. Now has 145k and still purrs like a kitten. Ride is amazing; like driving on a cross between a couch and a cloud. Power is great - I do a lot of highway driving and this car is way better than my mother's old Stratus. Really nice looking too - paint has held up well for being outside its whole life and the chrome rims make it look really sharp. Seats are very comfortable and the leather has held up really well considering the age. Awesome sound system. Replaced EGR valve and fuel pump, but we expected that one when we bought it (really common on these), but other than that it's only been regular maintenance.

I have owned this vehicle since 2003 the vehicle is very reliable as I have had problems as with any vehicle the biggest problem that these vehicles have are the intakes I have replaced it 2x i have maintained the vehicle very well and it has 170000 and still going I have replaced serveral items as alternator starter struts brakes belts wires hoses ac system I too had the leak problem but solved it as it was the rear wheel well that rotted out and fixed the problem the other leaks could be from sun roof drains that may be plugged up Vehicle has great handling and rides well with nice tires and new struts wish GM never abolished pontiac as no car runs like this

The best car I've ever owned, however,

This car is great except it leaks in the back floor board. When we bought this car we were not aware of the leaks. We have tried to figure out where it is coming from.If you buy this car ask the owners if it has had problems with leaking.

We bought this car in 1999, with 5,000 miles on it and I knew it would be a keeper. We have had absolutely no serious problems with this vehicle in the 10 years we have owned it. Was considering trading it in until I realized that there was nothing really wrong with it except a leak from someone putting a new front window in badly. That could be fixed, and it would not cost 25,000 like a new vehicle would. I would miss all the room we have in it if I bought a new vehicle. So we will keep her till she just lays down and dies. She is still pretty, fast, clean, and people still notice this type of car. Sorry they are not making any more. A shame indeed.

I bought my Bonneville, with 100,300, it now has 107,000 miles on it and since has been pretty solid. Shorty after i bought it wouldn't start, replaced the fuel pump and thinking that was it, turned out to be a air/fuel mix sensor, and haven't had a problem since. knock on wood. I did think the tumbler went out but after some searching i discovered the shifter boot was blocking the park thing from releasing the key. What could have been an expense fix turned out to be nothing. Other than that this car has been fantastic. It hasn't had another problem since, no cursed manifold trouble yet. doesn't really rattle until i hit a bump really hard and even then it's from time to time.

Bought in 2002 with about 30,000 miles. It is a beautiful car. It is very comfortable, handles great, gets very good mileage, and has been very reliable. I have only had to tune it at about 90,000 mi. and nothing else mechanical. I have a friend with an older model with over 200,000 mi. and he has had only had to replace the alternator on his at about 150,000 mi. The only bad thing is that they do not hold their value well. My car is valued at about $3000 but I won't let it go for less than $8000. Looks like I may have to keep it forever!

This was our second Bonneville. The '99 was a big improvement over the '91 which we kept 8 years. We spent very little on it for repairs. We did maintain it as recommended. The ride is a bit stiff, but it has good handling and control in evasive maneuvering. It has good road feel and takes curves and corners extremely well. The seats are very comfortable. We had the optional 60/40 split bench seat and were the only ones of our friends who could take two other couples out to dinner in the same car. We averaged about 25mpg highway (65mph) with the overdrive (auto) transmission. Not shifting into OD would lower gas mileage considerably. We averaged around 20mpg around town.

I purchased this car in 2000 with 22,000 miles for 15k. It has been a terrific car. Very roomy and good acceleration. I have had no major issues except the abs light has come on and off since about 35000 miles. I took it to the dealer few times they would reset it and about 2 months later, back on again. I have the brakes regulary checked and no problems . Overall this car has been one the best i have ever had. A great work and family car. I plan on keeping this one for a long time. American cars have had a bad reputation as not being reliable. I belive cars like this bonneville are closing the gap at a price that the average person could afford

My wife bought this car before we met. It gets good gas mileage for a car of its size and I like the way it drives. However, she has had a lot of problems with it. There has been 3 recalls for her car. The security light used to come on and the car wouldn't start. The check gauges light comes on and off and the suspension is poor. I've had major repair done to her car twice in the past two years. Neither of us will buy another one due to the poor quality of the one we now have.

This has got to be the best car I will ever own. I have put 24k on it in just over a year and I have have no complaints. The interior is well thought out and built with no squeeks or rattles. Some more storage for the front seat occupents would have been good. The car now has 98,000mi and is going strong, I have no doubt that I could get this car to 250,000mi. The car can move, the Supercharged 3800 has endless power.

I have had 2 Bonneville's. A 94 & 99. I like the overall performance, and exterior, but I have put 3 manifolds on each car. The 3rd one of each being "out of warranty". I sure wish GM would spend the $2-3.00 to fix the problem, rather than just hide behind the "we can't warranty them forever" line. Breaks - like all of the 6 GM cars I have owned, are undersized, and warp very easy. I will admit that I have become a better break mechanic because of owning a GM. Unfortunetly for GM, they have lost my respect, and I would find it difficult to ever buy a GM product again, and that's a shame.

I just got my bonneville last year, and I already have about 95,000 trouble-free miles on it. At times the transmission acts a little strange, but I don't think it's a major problem. I'm a college student and love this car because it combines all the room I need with an engine and design that I can have fun with.

I have just purchased a used 2003 Bonneville. It is almost a duplicate of my 1999 Bonneville SE. I liked the 1999 so much I had to have another!! I have not had to do any repairs in 4 years! This car drives straight and true. Acceleration is great. Gas mileage is great for a huge car. Even my teenage daughters like to drive it on the highway. Purchase price was less than one-half the original new car price (one year old purchase). It is a real value for people buying it used!

The Pontiac Bonneville SSEi is a sensational bargain for the power, comfort, and overall room it delivers. For the price point it is hard to compete with it. If you are wanting to compare it to the foreign market it really doesn't have a direct comparison until you get way up into the larger BMWs and Lexus. The Bonneville doesn't compare in quality or design with the larger exotics. It's only true competitors reside in the domestic market, (Buicks and Cadillacs). The only drawback to the car is that it is FWD. A full horsepower northstar, along with RWD would make a lot closer to competing with the larger car foreign markets.

this car has been very reliable. the minor problems have all been related to cheap plastic parts used on the interor. The windows let water floew in when driving in the rain. The trunk lets water drain in when opened wet. The car has given me good service and I believe it will into the future.

This has to be one of the best cars I will EVER own. I love driving it, it has more than enough power to make passing a joy. The handling is good for RWD. The 3800 S/C 4T65E Tranny combo are the best. So far I have made no necessary repairs. I upgraded to ceramic brake pads to reduce dusting of the rims. I constantly get compliments on this fantastic car.

I bought my Bonnie in August 1999. The family loves it: my wife mostly appreciates the space and comfort of the back seat, I love the responsiveness and performance (plus the comfort of the leather driver's seat). This is not a perfect car: the fit and finish on the 2000 VW Jetta that I owned for a year, would beat Bonneville. The paint gave me grief early on, the plastic parts inside are fit worse than parts in Jetta. Other than this, and excluding wear and tear, I haven't had problems with the car and have no plans to part with it. This a good car to have for many types of folks. (And it feels nice to leave BMWs behind, starting from a stop line :-)

This car was in the shop one day for each 287 miles. The windshield wipers intermittently didn't work, and GM refused to work on it, claiming I was making up the problem (the zone rep was rather amazed when the wipers failed to operate at the lemon law hearing with the judge present). It had numerous other problems, including turn signals, molding, trunk deck lid, horn, belt tensioner, compass, air conditioning, automatic light dimmer, head-up display, sunroof failure, peeling paint, interior trim falling off, and difficulty starting the engine. GM fought the lemon law process like a tiger, and treated us like dirt, but we finally won.

A vehicle that once was a perennial Consumer Digest "Best Buy" is no longer. Why? My 1999 Bonneville is a typical example. At 38K miles the power steering died. I brought it to the dealer and found that there is a TSB on the problem. I would need to pay $2300 to have the problem corrected. I skipped the repairs, a gym membership to build arm strength was cheaper. At 61K miles the the coolant system failed. Again brought it in and had $1800 and had repairs done. Two months the engine completely expired. This would have cost $8000 to fix. Total repairs needed were still $10,300 on a car whose value would be $9500 if in perfect condition.

I have owned this car for 3 years and love it. It satisfies my need for a large car with out feeling like I am driving my fathers car. Performance is good, comfort is good, styling is a matter of personal choice, a little less body cladding would be nice. Interior is comfotable. The only two real complants I have are: excesive wind noise that gets worse with age and the way the trunk lid dumps water into the trunk when wet. Over all this is a very nice car.

This has been a decent car, but I will be trading it soon. The transmission is acting up after 80,000 miles. I drive a lot for work, and I just don't think these cars are built to go 150,000 or 200,000 miles. Mine has been hard used, to be fair. So far, it's been ok. One reason I bought it was the feeling that parts would be cheap & plentiful, considering GM has been using this same basic design for years on Pontiacs, Buicks, etc. I haven't had a chance to confirm this belief however.
