I got this car new in December of 1999 with the help of my parents and just now finally letting go. Day in and day out this car has been there for me, even after 2 accidents (Rear ended in 2001, front driver side wheel well smashed in 2009). I cannot recommend this car enough. I'm trading it in with 206k miles on it. Outside of my gushing love and nostalgia, I do have several minor gripes that I just got accustomed to over the years: - The acceleration is fantastic in 1st and 2nd, but not so much in 3rd and 4th - Interior overhead cloth came loose where the roof and rear windshield meet around 130k. Has never came completely undone or had more than 2 inches loose. - A/C compressor died somewhere around 150k miles. Never bothered to fix it. - Sun damage got the best of the leather interior, specifically the driver seat, which now has a miniature rendition of the Grand Canyon in it. - Rack and pinion started leaking at 180k at miles. - On days that were about 50 degrees or lower, transmission would struggle shifting from 3rd to 4th, but would eventually get corrected after about 5 minutes on the road. - Weird spurts of feedback occasionally (like 4 times a week) coming through the speakers at 190k. The only time the Altima ever died on me, outside of batteries or the alternator, was when I was young and dumb. Never checked the fluid levels and let the coolant drop super low, blowing a head gasket. That was somewhere around 80k.

Bought the car in 2010 with 133,000 miles on it. Now at 173,000 and have only put brakes, tires, and new headlights on it. Engine and transmission are rock solid, never had an issue with either. My dear friend is getting old, however. Her rocker panel on the passenger side is almost completely eaten away, she has a rust hole in the floor board behind the passenger seat. It kills me to see my car rust out because despite the rust, she's never quit on me, and she won't hesitate to blow by someone on a two-lane or cruise comfortably at 80 on country roads. I could probably change the oil every 7,000 the way this car sips oil. Probably won't even get rid of her when I get a new car.

I actually drive an SE with a Auto trans. I got the car at 202000 Km. I used it for 4 years and now it has 310000 km on it. Until 280000 this car was running great. Only got regular repairs like brakes and etc. I didn't change the battery or did an alignment or a tune up and this baby runs awesome. 5/5 for both Engine and transmission. The body tends to rust out but who can complain past 250,000 km. All in all, this is the car if you're a new buyer and need something a bit comfy and still reliable. Comfort level is extraordinary for cars in its class and age.

I have 223K miles and still going. I love this car. I bought it at 12K miles in 2001. It's had very few problems. The only time I had a serious problem was the alternator went at around 170K. The interior plastic is rather cheap though and my visor attachments had problems. Pretty minor stuff. My husband believes in maintenance so we've changed out parts such as tie rods, spark plugs, radiator (was leaking), CV boot and brakes. Very little maintenance in 11 years. 4 hours in mechanic shop is longest time (alternator). Paint fading, 1 leather seat cracked. At this point the shocks could use replacement, but, even the shocks are better than most cars. 26-29 MPG. Love the Altima!

I bought mine with 50,000 miles on it. It is now turning 200,000 miles on it. I had to put in a rebuilt trans at 178,000 miles and new tie rods at 180,000. As far as things need to be done it seems that it doe's not start till after 112,000 miles. At least every 10,000 miles added to the car is when things need to be done, I mean things that should get done i.e. shocks, starter, front-end. My mechanic said it will last another 100,000 as long as I do my oil changes and small routine maintenance. Funny thing is when I first bought the car I was getting 27 to the highway now I am getting 31 hwy and 26 to the city. Go figure.

I purchased my Altima in 06 with 130,000 miles on it. It now has 181,000 miles. In May of 2008 my timing chain popped & bent my valves, it would've cost more for me to simply replace the belt & valves so I ended up getting a new motor. The timing chain breaking appears to be a common problem after 150,000 miles. If you hear any type of rattling from your motor get it checked!! Besides that, I have not had any problems with my vehicle except normal maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires). I look forward to having this car for another 50,000 miles!!

I've had this car for 6 years. Purchased used with 55K miles, it now has 176K miles. It has been extremely reliable. Aside from changing normal wear and near parts, I've had no extremely expensive repairs done on it. I plan on buying a new engine for it when the current one finally gives up on me.

I'd take this car refurbished over a new one. 5-speed manual shifts okay (except balky in 1st), plenty of spunk. Okay w/ routine maintenance but last 5 years had to replace alternator (w/ core charge refund it wasn't much), belt tensioner, and radiator (less than $100, home installation). Have had suspension work done. Factory tires were weak link. Trunk space is good and very comfortable positioning for short driver (I'm 5'2"). Now at over 150,000 miles starting to show it's age but I still love this car.

This is a great car!

I bought this car 8 years ago, used with about 50,000 miles on it. It is now at 168,000 miles and I would drive it across the U.S. tomorrow! To be honest, I have driven the heck out of it. It cranks right up everyday except one time when the battery was dead. I have had to replace the CV joints and the driver's side tie rod. The only regular maintenance I have done on it is oil changes, air filters, fuel filter, and breaks. I love this car and would but another one in a heartbeat!

I have a 1999 GXE 5 speed manual. It's currently at 97,500 miles. It's been extremely reliable. I'm meticulous about maintenance and appearance. Outside of one CV joint and speakers, no other repairs. Just regular maintenance expenses like oil/ manual tranny fluid/coolant/brake pad changes, etc. I replaced the struts and springs at 92,000 which helped to restore the car's ride quality to "like new". Fuel economy is 23 mpg around town and 28 mpg highway with a/c on. With cruise control at 60-65 mph on long highway trips without A/C I've gotten as high as 32-33 mpg. I can put at least another 100K miles on this car and plan on giving it to my son in 2 years. Great car!

My 10 yr old Nissan Altima is one of the best cars that I have ever owned, and I've had quite a few over the years before I bought this. This car has been really good to me and the repairs have been very minor and only in the last couple of years...things do wear out after all. The body has held up really well too; no signs of rust and it still looks nice. If I were to replace it, that would be because I'm bored and want something new (this is the longest I've ever kept a car. I used to get a new one every 4-6 yrs).

This has been a great car at currently 130,000 miles. It has excellent power for a 4 cylinder. My only problem was the alternator needed replaced twice. No big issue and overall inexpensive to maintain. From what I have been hearing about newer cars and $$$ repairs, I cannot complain. Handles great on the highway. I made several 1,000 mile trips with no problems. For anyone that needs an inexpensive used car to get around in this economy, I would highly recommend this one. Because of the reliability, I am not even tempted to buy a new car yet.

Hey looking for a great car this is the one! I bought my Altima in 2006 with 114k miles on it, and at 172k it's still running strong. Besides the minor work it's very dependable great on gas and roomy. Nissan did a great job with this one, if I could have anything else I would keep this one.

Have this vehicle 8 years, have never been back to dealer for anything. Oil changes, tire replacement, fan belt and brakes have been replaced. That's it. Fuel economy 25+ on the road and about 20 in town. Thinking of selling but afraid what I get to replace it won't be as dependable. Overall in my opinion the Altima is the best value dollar for dollar among any car on the market today or ever.

This is an incredibly reliable car but I have had to replace several things so far. 1. Both front CV joints the seals were all cracked and they were clicking very loudly when I turned. 2. Replaced the alternator 3 times so far; they were aftermarket refurbished. Dealership will not give core refund if it is not a factory alternator 3. I have a slow oil leak and some oil burning. 4. Power steering leaks in numerous places which the dealership said will eventually involve replacing the pump and all valves. 5. Steering wheel rubber has completely crumbled down to the steel core so I have had to replace the cover. and Seatbelt on drivers side doesn't pull in so it gets slammed in door

I bought my Altima new. And after nine years it still runs great, has very good acceleration good gas mileage (28 to 29 hwy)and has proven remarkably reliable. At 110,000 I got a tune-up, new front brakes, new belts and a new front tie rod. Since then minor things (AC charge, new radiator) have been needed but still has original clutch, and even the original battery. And yes, the speakers leave a lot to be desired, and there is occasional wind noise through the windows. But overall Nissan did a fabulous job with this car.

I have found ownership of my Altima having offsetting pluses & minuses. Yes it's reliable and gas mileage around 25-28 mpg. But when parts wear out they are quite expensive. The seats are hard & uncomfortable, it has the turning radius of a truck, the stereo is no Bose.

I've put over 200,000 miles on my Altima and it's still runs great. My wife owns a 1998 Altima with 90,000 miles on it and it also solid. I've had to replace the driver's side visor in both several times because it is connected by cheap plastic. I was looking for an affordable and reliable car in the $3500 range to serve as my daily commuter. My 2000 Ford F-150 doesn't compare when it comes to fuel consumption. I am happy about my purchase. Fuel consumption, comfort and so far reliability are all great, not to mention the looks. The turning radius is a little wide but that's ok. I had to replace the 2 stock door speakers and the 2 rear deck speakers because they were blown. These are all 6 1/2 cheap 1 way spkrs. They are rated 30w max/15w nom. I replaced them with Pioneer 6 1/2 260w 4-way spkrs (model TS-G671M). Great upgrade. I recommend anyone looking for a good commuter vehicle consider this car. Can't go wrong.

I have 112,000 miles on this car I bought new. Front brakes made it safely to 75,000 backs to 100,000 OE clutch made it to 110,000 as well as the battery and alternator. That I blame on my 1000 watt aftermarket stereo. I did have to replace the power window unit at 96000. I'm scared to trade it because of how reliable it has been. It can even do light off roading when needed. It's not a truck so it does require some caution but it handles it well. Wish the new ones were closer to the same! We have an 06 too. It's really nice but not quite the same.

Peppy, most powerful 4 cylinder I've ever experienced. Have never felt the need for more power, even driving the Colorado mountains. Easily passed most cars if necessary. Front wheel drive made driving in snow a breeze. Even now, Sep 2006, it looks good. Not that out of style really. Rear spoiler helps the looks. Still get compliments on it now. Would that I could find another car to match this one. A hard act to follow. Don't think a better car has ever been built for the money. Can't stop raving.

After alot of research for my next car I decided on the Altima. I have no regrets at all. I purchased the car with 79,000 miles and now have 90,000 miles on it and have only 3 things gone wrong on the car other than brakes and oil changes. The first thing that went were my CV boots and second my throttle linkage snapped which controls the acceleration of the car. Basically, when it snapped my gas pedal did nothing and left me stranded. My mechanic told me in his 25 years of working he had never seen that happen on a car. Lastly, the alternator had to replaced but other than that the car has been perfect and I highly reccommend this car. I added a K&N filter and it makes such a difference.

After reading the reviews of others I thought I should add my two cents. I currently have 183,000 miles on my Nissan Altima and planning to go at least another until 250,000 before giving it to my niece. The car has been trouble free just change the oil and brakes along with tires and keep driving it. Wanted to put this out to other folks with less miles so they know their cars still have a long way to go, keep on trucking. Don

My Altima has been a great car - very reliable. Pros: good gas mileage for size, comfortable ride, sporty feel. Cons: trunk design - opening is very small for such a large trunk, both front speakers have blown out even though I don't play loud music. Cost to replace each one at dealer is about $170. I replaced one but am doing without the other for now. Overall, though, I'm very pleased with my car and plan to drive it until it falls apart.

I used to have a serious dislike of altima's. I portayed them as a female's car. Well, my mom owned a 98 Altima that I drove sometime and fell inlove with it. I had to get my own. So I bought a 99" GLE. The interior is so comfortable, and the handling is awesome. I upgraded the tires to 205's and man, she takes a 30 mph curve at 70 with easy. Needless to say, no matter how many other cars I buy.....I'm keeping her til the last panel falls off.

My 1999 Nissan Altima was a very nice car. Ii had some work done to it, like a full ground effects kit, a cold air intake, and some subs and new speakers, beside the tranny giving out on me at 55,000 miles and battery dying at 62,000 miles it was a fun, reliable car to drive. It had the power to smoke Honda Civics and Acoords and a lot of other 4 door middle grade sedns. It was a safe car as well, I totaled it after hiting a guardrail doing 75 mph and it kept togther very well. It was definitely repairable, but my insurance company just totaled it because it experienced some frame damage. I reccommend this car to any one who wants a car they can trust and have fun with at the same time.

I bought my 1999 Nissan Altima SE brand new in 1998. It is now over 6 years later and I have never had any problems with this car. It is incredibly well engineered and very well built. It zips around quite nimbly around the city and drives very solid on the highway. In the 6 years I have owned it I've replaced the brake pads and tires once each. Oh and a turn signal burned out at one point. When I got married we had to choose 1 car since we live in the city and only own 1 parking space - we sold her Audi A4 and kept the Altima since we knew we would have much fewer problems with Altima. Great job Nissan. This car is so good we're now buying another Nissan.

I think Nissan is definitely underrated on quite a few vehicles, this being one of them. I just bought a pearl white 99 SE-L 5 speed. Hondas do not possess the level of solidity that this car has. Wow, the transmission is geared high! I can't fairly rate the gas mileage but for a 2950 lb vehicle, how can 30mpg be bad. Very good midrange power. I'd also love to find a 91-94 low mileage Sentra SE-R, another favorite.

Thanks Dad

My father gave me his 1999 Nissan Altima GXE a few days ago. It has 57650 miles on it and he has not had one problem with it. My mother owned a 1998 and I drove that all the time and i loved it. This car runs and drive GREAT! The 4 cylinder motor feels like a V6 with awesome power when you need it. The gas mileage is super as well. Thanks Dad I know I will have this car another 150,000 miles. Thanks Nissan

I bought my Altima from a salvage auction. Everything was ok except for the engine. I replaced the engine from a year 2000 Altima. So far I haven't had any major issues with the car, got it at 32k miles now it has 62k. I do oil changes every 3000 miles. It runs great and has a neat pickup as for a 4 cylinder engine. I put 17" rims on it and now it handles like BMW. The radio broke when I played self recorded CDs. I guess it was not designed for those. I would recomend it to anybody who wants low maintenance and reliability. This car might not be too luxurious but it's main parts are well designed and should last many years.

I bought this car mainly because I needed reliable transportation, and I have not been disappointed. I bought it new in '99 and it now has 75,000 miles. I haven't yet had any problems with the car, other than a torn C/V boot. I've replaced the front and rear brakes once, and the tires twice. It's very peppy for a 4 cyl non-turbo engine and it has a very stable ride on any type of road. The only downsides that I've found so far is the iffy gas mileage and the excessive wind noise at highway speeds. Mostly I can barely get over 300 miles per tank with mixed city/highway driving, which is around 20 MPG. Other than that, it's been a great car.

I like my car a lot. It's fast enough, though I won't be winning many races. A very nice looking car on the outside, and average looking on the inside. I drove a 2002 Camry mostly though high school, and the Altima can't campete with it's roomy interior with leather. Of course the Camry has been around much longer, and is more equal to the Maxima. So if you need something bigger and better than a Sentra and you can't/won't get a Maxima, then the Altima is a very good choice.

I bought the car new in 1999. Drive 100 miles a day to work and back. Absolutely no problems at all. Cruises nicely at expressway speed (or slightly higher.) Comfortable ride that seems to get better as you add more passengers. At 6-4, I'm definitely at the upper limit of who the cars was designed for. Engine has been great! With 112,000 mi, I've replaced the front brakes once, the tires once, the serpentine belt, and a $.99 hose clamp. Not bad. Interior is the epitome of conservative, which is nice because I haven't gotten sick of looking at it.

in terms of performance, Altima SE could be among the best of its class. I am driving a 5-speed manuel model. It doesn't have a good pick up, but it has a fast mid-speed. Once, I drove it at 190 Km/Hr and it seems very stable. Beside, it has a good stereo with excellent speakers. However, the quality is my concern. The leather seats look cheap. I would sugesst Nissan should do more wind turnel before releasing theirf future models...... the car is very noicy on a windy and running on highways. Also, matellic noice comes from the timing chain.

I went out searching for a new car and didn't particularly like the prices of the brand new selections out there. So, I decided to check out the reasonably priced used cars and researched the ones that had some reliability to them. The best value that I found for the going price was the Nissan Altima. I found it to have substantial reliability from reviews of past consumers along with decent fuel economy. So far, I have been pleased with my purchase.

I was looking to buy a 2003 Honda Accord/Toyota Camry, when I saw this car at a local dealership, gave it a spin, and ended up buying it. It's in great condition, paint is still beautiful. My gas mileage hasn't been phenominal, I do a lot of highway driving and expected around 33-34 mpg, but rarely break 30-31. Performance is ok. Road/wind noise is good, but not as quiet as the newer Accords/Camrys. Ride is also good, but again not as damped as newer competing vehicles. If the reliability is as good as the Edmunds ratings claim, I'll be very happy with it for the next few years.

I have driven this car for about 4 months now. This car is more impressive than the 99 Maxima. If you rarely drive on the interstate, then this car is perfect. The cars cooling/heater unit works fast. This car is the best 4 cyclinder car ever. The only drawback is road noise, Slight vibrations when braking at high speeds and terrible stereo. The mirrors are bigger than the Maxima. There is no power seats which is what I like because it takes forever for the seat to adjust if it had one. If this car is great what is the new body style like? Oh one more thing! Weaving in and out of traffic is easy.

I wasn't sure which car to get. My choices were narrowed down to Camry, Accord and Altima. I have test driven the stick version of all of them and to my surprise Altima superseded by far the other two. Though it can be a little noisy I really like the fast response and the low maintenance required. Except the tires, Firestone, which do not live up to the claimed treadware of 500.

When you look at the Altima you never guess the amount of PEP thats inside of this car (my only regrets were that I didn't get a manual), I mean the acceleration is superb and the big 2.4L engine is great. So far its really reliable and nice. ITs a very fun car and I love burning little civics and celicas with it.

Despite its appearance, this car is fantastic!! With the performance mods I have added, thanks to Stillen motors and Flowmaster, I readily devour Hondas, Mitsus, and other wannabes with my sleeper. Very easy to enhance and am now getting 190+hp (on the way to 220hp). Not any problems with this car, except that I may need to put a racing clutch in soon! Recommended it as a first timer, college, or performance mod car. Great engine.

It's O.K.

My car has 80k miles now, and if you want a reliable car this is the one. But if you are looking for great features, look elseware. The "leather" feels fake, and does not come with some amenities found in comparably priced vehicles. Exterior has bad paintjob and scratches easily. Interior has very weak plastic parts such as door handles and console area.

Great Buy!

Bought this car new and although it now only has 35000 miles, this car has operated flawlessly. This car drives, sounds, and rides just like the day I bought it. With the platinum spark plugs, and a timing chain (not a timing belt!) this car requires no maintenance other then oil and filter change. I believe that I could get 200,000 miles out of this car with very few repairs.

It's a nice car

Own this car 3 years (60K miles). Fun to drive. Very precise and responsible. No technical problems. I think it's a great car for the money!
