I took delivery of my Black Currant beauty in the Spring of 1999. It didn't take long to fall in love. The double wishbone suspension, coupled with a high-revving in-line four (which felt like it was hand-built by Swiss watchmakers), light weight and a responsive steering linkage made this car a ball to drive. The fact that it was reliable, durable, possessed an excellent degree of utility and didn't require a fortune to operate and maintain were just bonuses. Faced with its inevitable demise all these years later, it feels like losing a friend. True, the low-end torque wasn't the best and a parasitic amp draw was never properly diagnosed, but I am distraught at having to say goodbye to this car. It's style, the brilliantly laid out dash and the aforementioned high-revving four and excellent suspension turned long drives into sprints. I'm 6'3" and could sit straight up in the back seat. Such was the thoughtful engineering and design invested into this car by Honda. In its own quiet and sublime way, I feel it was one of the best cars ever built.

I purchased my '99 Accord EX sedan 3 years ago for a second car. It had about 140k miles on it, and I figured I would keep it a couple of years to get me through a new job, etc. Well it now has 192k miles on it and runs and drives as good as the day I took it home! I have had the timing belt replaced, and installed new front struts. Other than that it has been simple oil changes and no worries. What a great car! It handles and rides beautifully, is comfortable and great on gas too. For the small amount I paid for my Accord I feel like I stole it. I don't even have the desire to get a newer car - that is how much I love my Accord!

Haven't owned the car all that long but needed a replacement after an accident. The price was right and the maintenance was well recorded. I was impressed with the condition and how well it ran. I was concerned with the mileage but everyone and my research told me I would be fine. So far I'm very happy. I find it to be reliable, it's gone on road trips and gets great gas mileage. The tranny slips when cold but was also told that's a Honda thing, so u will be keeping an eye on it. For the year it was pretty fancy with extras back in its day. I am happy to be driving it around and feel really good about my purchase.

My parents bought me my old accord coupe when I got my license. At the time she had 170 thousand miles on her and ,As it says in the title she's reliable. I was never left stranded while I owned the car. just keep the oil changed and she got me where ever I wanted to go. The interior was comfortable and easy to see out of. My Honda had the v6 engine In it and it was an amazing engine. It had the best pick up go. But one draw back which was a big one, it was very rough shifting from first to second gear. But other than that it ran smoothly. I had the vehicle for three years. I drove her in rain and shine. And she did great in Both conditions. Also I drove her through a few light snows and she had great traction for an old fwd car. Besides oil changes, repairs were very minimal. I had to replace a window motor and the motor mounts. July 2015 was the end on my three years with black Betty. That when she was passed to my brother, with 212000 on her at the time. thats when I got my 2010 Ford Explorer. I love my new car but at times I miss the sporty little Honda.

In the summer of 2013, we purchased our '99 Honda Accord V6 Coupe for our teenage sons primarily to drive. I drive it every chance I get. The fit and finish of this car is superb: Sunroof, leather upholstery, nice radio, leather wrapped steering wheel, upholstered door panels, very roomy backseat. The condition of the interior and exterior is unbelievable....almost like new. The car has 82,000 miles on it and drives like a sports car to a Mom used to driving minivans and stodgy sedans. We plan to replace the timing belt soon and keep up on the maintenance. Really hope to get another 82,000 miles on this, maybe more......

This was my first car, given to me by my step dad. I got it with about 180,000 miles on it. I drove it up until about 200,000. The transmission started acting up but we didnt think it was a big deal. Turned out the torque converter went bad and ruined the solenoids. Other than that issue, i had no other problems whatsoever. The car has been in an accident and all that happened was a bent hood and a scratched headlight cover. This car could take just about anything and i loved it. It was extremely comfortable to drive and had pretty good gas mileage. The motor ran strong and still does.

I would recommend this car to anyone i love my honda it has never broken down or crapped out on me gas milage is great has original motor and trans we kept up on oil changes fluid changes and have had no problems normal wear and tear stuff but nothing major was replaced.

I purchased this car new in 99, and have had very very little problems with it since. It now has 212k miles and still drives pretty close to new. I live in New England and this car has gone through some of the worst winters you could imagine...ice, snow, road salt, pot holes, sub zero temperatures. It still has the origanal engine, tranny, struts, starter, alternator, exhaust and steering components. I believe if I had lived in the south I would not of had to replace much of anything at all (rust has had me replace the brake lines and fuel tank). Aside from that, the only repairs made were; a ball joint, tie rod, evap solenoid and vtec solenoid. Not bad for 12 years and a total of $200.00

I bought this car with 100 miles on it. It just turned 30,000 miles, since I take public transit to work and garage it the rest of the time. It is in showroom condition - not one door ding or dent on it! Absolutely mint in and out. My 5-year warranty came and went without me taking advantage of it, as I know i paid for it upfront. It drives like new. The only complaint I have is that the acceleration from a stop till about 50 mph is not that great. Then again, that may be the norm for a 4-cylinder car, though it is a V-Tec engine. I intend to drive it for a long time or give it to one of my kids.

While I have this 1999 Honda accord today because my 94 Honda Accord was damaged pretty bad in a wreak. So far I love the car, I brought it for 2,800 as is. It didn't need any under the hood work just a paint job and a new hood.I was blessed. I drive back in forth from home to school in another city. My gas lasted forever, 20 dollars lasted me 6 days straight. But my shifter has been getting stuck in park and I have to pull it hard to shift to another gear but that is fine, no biggie got fixed. I love hondas and toyotas and I want changed to an American made car for nothing, because they only look good, but they don't last long at all compared to hondas and toyotas. Just do your research.LOL

This is my first car ever! I love it. Has some transmission problems but it still drives, so no problems. It is 12 years old and I drove it 80 mph on the freeway and she got 33 mpg and that was with my bike rack. Bought from my dad's coworker. Got a great deal $5000 and it is still worth $4000 after two years. I recommend this to all.

We bought this car brand new with only 52 miles. The car has given us great service with just normal maintenance. The car is very reliable, and still drives almost 100 miles a day. The motor and transmission is still all original with no problems other than a stalling problem it just started having which looks to be just a cleaning of the throttle body, and idle control valve issue. I would recommend one of these cars to anybody, and plan to buy another one when this finally gives up. I think the odometer speaks for itself.

I purchased my 1999 Honda 2Dr EX V6 new in April 99. I have 110,000 miles on this car and I must say that it is an excellent vehicle. I drive it daily and find it very enjoyable to drive. It has great performance and reliability and it is very comfortable on long drives. My overall average mileage is 23.5 miles per gallon. Which hasn't changed much since I bought the car. I plan on keeping this car for a very long time. I highly recommend it.

I've had my Accord since the fall of 1999 and it has performed admirably over the years. 178000 miles and only a starter and alternator for replacements with regular tuneups. Still gets 30 MPG and the ride quality is great for a car of its time period. Really could use ABS living in Minnesota winters, but you can do without if you're a confident driver.

Bought this thing with around 45K miles on it in 2004 and drove it until some kid parked his Blazer in my trunk last week at 127K miles. Great car. Not the most fun car I've ever driven, but still not bad. No issues other than the cheap factory GM alternator had to be replaced at around 50K miles which I was expecting. No tranny issues. Driver's side leather seat started looking rough but not bad considering it was a 10 year old car. All in all no complaints other than the alternator and maybe a tighter, sportier suspension. Super reliable, what you can expect from a Honda.

I bought this car used with 15000 miles on it (basically new) - I have to say this was the best car purchase I made to this point - possibly because I had owned some lemons previously. Low maintenance, great highway performance. The V-tech engine is such a great feature - until the v-tech engine started having problems - and only a dealership could fix them. Started having tranny problems after the 8th year. I had it rebuilt and still had problems. Honda wanted between $3 & 4K to fix it - at the time it was only worth that much. Friend of mine is having tranny probs on her 2003 Accord so I am a little leery of them now. Am trading it for a Mazda 3 - we'll see how that goes.

My 1999 accord quality and reliability is so bad that I am convinced Honda is misleading the customers on their claim on reliability. Through this review, I would like to point out a flaw, either in the design or the manufacturing process, of the 1999 model year Honda Accord engine. The cylinder #3 valve melted out and blew a hole in it while driving on the highway. The mileage on the car was only about 105K. Honda dealers, and Honda H.Q. refused to honor any claims since the mileage is over 80K.

I purchased a 1999 Honda Accord EX Coupe V6 in Apr 09 with 184,786 miles on it. The CarFax was downloaded on the website. Went to check it out. The engine was in great shape not "DOGGED" like most. Belts and chain replaced. No Tranny work done. But I can expect it to happen with this model. So I just go purchase a good warranty packet no big deal. This Honda is a great car. A drivers car not a "RACE CAR" Stop crying and face the facts. Normal maintenance, wear and tear. You cannot beat it.

I wanted Honda reliability but was a little disappointed, overall a very good car though. Two guys I worked with have 98's (the year this version was redesigned), while they have a lot more miles, I used that as a gauge of problems I could expect. Alternator and battery failed at only 35K miles ($700) which I thought was pretty bad and it needed brakes prematurely soon after that, but that's been about it - almost 10 years old, needs new motor mount but no other repair issues. It's powerful, fairly quiet, agile, excellent handling and braking. Gas mileage drops al lot if you go 70+ MPH. The clear coat finish on the wheels is wearing a little prematurely being in FL most its life.

Got this my car back in 2002 w/ 24,000 miles. Now it has over 80k and I'm amazed how reliable this car is. Aside from the required maintenance, the only problems I had is changing the light bulbs, squeaky shocks on the front driver, & annoying rattles in the trunk. That is it, I bought a 5spd so I have non of those trans problems. Thinking of getting a new car, but cant really part w/ my reliable Honda.

My parents purchased this vehicle new in August 1999, and it became mine in summer 2008, with 145K on the ticker. It now has 155K and has been dead reliable. Needed a clutch at 118K, ball joints and an ignition a year ago, and various wear items. Only non-wear items that have gone are the backlight for the clock, the left rear window switch in that door (still works from driver's door), and the green LED in the main cruise control switch. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat but will hold onto this one for a while, until I can afford a six-speed Acura TL in a few years.

I have 175K on my 1999 Honda Accord. I am thinking of purchasing another car, but it would only be for fun. My car runs like a new car. I could drive to the moon and back with confidence. I did have to replace the transmission at 90K and the ball joints at 30K. However, Honda covered these expenses and were very apologetic to me. The dealer gave me a loaner car. Keep up the maintenance with an oil change every 3000 miles.

This car was delivered new in July 1999. After 9 years and 139,000 miles it has proved to be reliable to get us from point A to point B consistently, but over that time, the cruise control conked out and she leaks oil (About a quart a fill up) despite diligent maintenance. The body has a bit of rust and many nasty door dings. Other than that, no major issues. Brakes and timing belt have already been replaced but tranny has showed no issues. It is used as a the car to get us to the city, airports or anyplace we would be uncomfortable taking our precious roadster. All in all, it hasn't been the "bulletproof" transportation that it was supposed to be, but it has never left us stranded.

I bought my Accord in 99. I have clocked 113K so far. While the car has generally been low maintenance, the transmission had to be replaced at 102K. After reading the comments, looks like transmission has been a problem on 99-03 edition. And now the rack and pinion assembly needs to be replaced. Has anybody faced this problem? Brake rotors and power steering pump were replaced too. I guess after 100K, there is no escaping from frequent maintenance expenses. But the engine and performance is still impressive. I do 60 miles round trip daily and the drive is very comfortable with the V6 notwithstanding the $4 gas. I hope to get it to at least 125K without much expense

We have loved this car-, early perfect reliability and fine performance. Could be more comfortable, but that was a small price to pay for perfect performance over 8 years. The transmission is gone, though, and the timing belt needs to be replaced. The complete repair/maintenance bill is going to run around 3000 or more. The car has basically lost all its value in 9 years. So the value could be better.

I've driven this car for 8 years now, and I'm gonna trade in for a Lexus. Overall, I think this is a pretty reliable car except for the fact that most Accords I've see have a transmission problem. However, the design is really nice, and fuel economy is great, but I would recommend researching Honda's transmission problems (98-03) before buying this car. We've had our transmission fixed twice, which cost 7k, so we decided to trade in.

I purchased my 2nd accord over 3 years ago with 90k miles on it. My first '92 accord had nearly 200k and the only problem was w/ the cruise control and a rough transmission. My '99 has a faulty transmission that's slipping as well, the lights in my dash dim periodically, cruise control doesn't work AT ALL, the auto locks in my rear doors are now manual, I need new ball joints, i had to purchase an extended warranty for my battery b/c it continuously dies. I must admit that as I am approaching 175k, that car still starts without a glitch, but the "quality" that Honda is expected to have mastered is only hype. This is the 4th Honda my family has had, and the 4th one with transmission issues.

My family has owned many Hondas, all of which have been very low maintaining vehicles, except for a big problem in my '99 transmission. The car used to be my moms. She had to replace the tranny at just below 100,000. Very disappointing coming from Honda, one of the most reliable manufacturers out there and way above German and American made cars. Now at almost 170,000 miles and up to that I've been noticing the transmission problems again, and just today it went totally out of gear, and then back in after I jabbed the gas a few times about three seconds later. Not been a fun experience driving in fear with this car... possible my driving habits don't help it either.

In my opinion - The best car ever built.

I have had the car a total of 10 years this fall. I have had the brakes replaced 2 times since I bought the car, I've had the timing belt changed on its scheduled 125,000 mile maintenance, the alternator had to be replaced at 40,000 because of the faulty manufacturer (Honda did not warranty this part.). I have had a lot of worry free driving for many years. I am in the market for a new car but i will be keeping my Honda for as long as it has wheels. I drive this vehicle 500+ miles to Arkansas from Georgia every other month and have felt very confident that I will arrive safely in a car with over 150,000 miles and counting. I am very pleased with this car.

I recently purchased a 1999 Honda Accord EX under the belief that Hondas were reliable. The car has 83K miles and the transmission slips and oil is leaking into the coolant. I will probably have to replace the engine and transmission. I have contacted Honda who are unwilling to help out. This is my third and last Honda. I mention this issue to others so they do not go through a similar experience.

I absolutely love(d) my Accord EX 4 dr. sedan. It was the funnest car I ever drove! It cornered great,it was peppy, reliable. I had the recommended timing belt maintenance done at 105,000 miles, also an oxygen sensor blew then too. Spent $1,000 on that preventive maintenance, only to have my engine head crack at 107,000 miles! I had no warning, no difference driving, but oil and antifreeze were mixing and the liquid looked like mud!! The pressure blew and popped a radiator hose just 4 months later. Cracked engine &I need a used engine put in for $2750, NOT! Needless to say, I am very disappointed and plan to write Honda to demand an answer as to why this would happen on their #1 product-cars

I bought the vehicle at 84,000 and thought that Honda goes forever. Did regular service at 85,000. Water pump, timing belt, drive belts, a/c belts, spark plugs, transmission fluid, pretty much a good tune up. But to my surprise I noticed and was told by my mech. that I should have researched before buying this accord as it has manufacturing problems with Transmission. It's not even 100K and the transmission is slipping. When you take off, it hesitates from gear 1 to 2. And when you stop, it gives a little jerk before stopping. This is known issue with Honda (98-02). So, research before you buy it.

Well, now what a surprise the ole-girl has 150k on her and looks and drives like new. Do what the maintenace schedule says use only Honda parts! This car has been a delight to me and my wife now for eight years! No mechanical failures only one slightly costly driver side door mechanism hickup. A little pin broke and locked the door permanently. It was real interesting taking the door panel off and cutting the locking mechanism out with a dremel. Total fluke nobodies fault. 32 gpm highway which is most of our driving. Pushes snow with quality snow tires. Love stick shift, changed out the cloth for leather heated for $1400, would do it again. Going to drive her till she dies!

1999 4i 5MT Accord LX manufactured in Japan (Saitama, IIRC). The only thing that's broken in 9 years is the windshield. It's for all intents as- new, and gets 32ish mpg in mixed driving, which makes it tough to trade in for something "better". As a used vehicle, a well-maintained Accord is about as good as it gets.

I have owned a model year Nissan Altima, a Toyota Camry V6 and the Honda Accord. While I thought the Camry would be my favorite (the Altima was a disaster and traded within one year) after 4 years and 107,000 miles it was in need of serious mechanical attention and was traded. The Accord, however has 137,000 miles and has been the most reliable and required the least maintenance. In fact, it's only been in the shop twice over these past 8 years, once for ignition and once for clutch (just recently).

i bought my accord used, the ulev edition, which is built in japan. the transmission is only now, at 199,000 miles, is starting to slip a little, mostly due to old tranny fluid. american built hondas are the ones that are giving the company a bad rap. you can't build a japanese product outside of japan, it just won't work. won't buy another honda because they majority are built in the u.s. now, but will never rule out buying a used one after researching where the car was built.

I've put 3000 miles on my 99 Accord ex 5 speed. I've filled it up probably 5 times. Get's great gas mileage. I usually take first gear all the way to 6K RPM, and I still get around 25 MPG in the city. If your planning on buying an Accord, go with the 5 speed manual. A manual is so much more fun to drive. Car is pretty quick off the line too for a 4 cylinder. The only problem I'm having right now is the timing belt. I hear a constant ticking in my engine. No major problems though. Trunk is the biggest I've ever seen. This car was def worth the MSRP of $23000 back in 99. Hondas last forever

Our Honda Accord has been very reliable. In the 6 years we have owned it we have only had to make the required maintenance, plus tires and windshield wipers. It has 120,000 miles on it and still going strong. It still looks good too. A/C, heat and power windows are still in good shape as well. The only problem I have is that the cassette player sometimes does not play. Other times it does. We bought a Honda Civic as our second car because our Honda Accord was so reliable. To make a long story short, I wound up with this 1999 Honda Accord EX-L. It performs very well with a lot of peppiness. I get about 30-35 mpg on the highway and 20-25 mpg in town. The car is comfortable to drive in and is very spacious. The bottomline is that you cant beat a Honda for value, performance, and integrity.

I purchased this car in '01 (it's now 06) and I am very happy with the value. I have experienced no powertrain issues, as are common with automatic transmission models. I average 32 MPG on highway. 4-cylinder has plenty of spunk. The ride leaves a bit to be desired. Engine noise noticeable - air noise noticeable - not as smooth as my 16 YEAR OLD Lexus LS 400. Very easy for my local $40/hr mechanic to work on - or if I'm feeling brave I have tackled a few issues. Plenty of room in engine compartment to manuver. BUY THE 4 CYL!!!

I have purchased 3 new 4cyl Accords (83,90,99) with absolutely no mechanical problems, we drove the 83 60k miles, the 90 134k miles and the 99 we drove 84k miles. But lets face it...Honda and Toyota know what they are doing. I have also bought 4 New Toyotas. Averaging 100k miles. Neither car is perfect but both do as advertise..reliable, clean lines, great value, good size, good resale, low maint. cost. The 99 accord is great but does have excessive road noise (Camry's are significantly quieter). The 4cyl Accord has plenty of power...I like to zip around and cruise at 75-80mph on I- 5. Anyone that says they need more power must have the thing loaded down and going straight up a steep hill.

I bought a 99 Honda Accord EX V6 Engine, three months ago. When I bought the car it had 64,000 miles. Less than 2 months later the transmission went on me...what a headache when you are 200 miles from home. There has also been several recalls on the vehicles ignition switch. Even after having the ignition completely replaced, my key would get stuck in the ignition...another headache. I brought it back to the dealership 4x for the same problem. Finally, or so I hope, they have pin-pointed that when the tranny was replaced, the gear shifter was not aligned properly (???) which caused the key to get stuck. Let's see what happens. In any event, I am frustrated with all the problems I have.

I bought my '99 Accord EX 5-speed new and have changed the oil every 3K miles and kept up with other routine maintenance. When I did my maintenance I only used Honda parts and found everthing to last tremendously longer than the OEMs. Second set of front brakes lasted 70K, back 77K. This was my second Accord...some thief liked my '96. This car is worth every penny I and the insurance company paid...I currently have nearly 100K miles and I still get awesome gas mileage...29 city/36 highway...better than the guesstimate from Honda. Oh yea...every once in a while I think about getting rid of it but then I get in it and am reminded why I love it. And at $3.00/gallon, the mileage can't be beat

I was looking to buy a reliable car. I did my research and the Accord seemed like a good bet. I was right. So far, the only problem I've had is the alternator went bad. I change the oil every 3K miles and the car performs well. The leather interior is very comfortable. The auto temp air conditioner is great and very cold. Unlike, most cars I've had, this car hasn't had the "little" problems (interior falling apart) that come with time. Everything is where it's supposed to be. The handling could be better, but it is a family sedan after all. Overall, I'm very happy with the car.

I have the 4-cyl and it is pretty slow in 1st and 2nd gears, a little better after 2nd, but not much. Auto Transmission WILL go out before 125,000 miles, no question. Car currently has 120k on it right now and i've rebuilt the transmission and when that didnt' work, put in a new one. Even the new Transmission shifts a little hard. Lastly, this may be an isolated incident, but my non-power seats have broken 3 times and won't lock into place, so the pass. just slides forward and backward while i drive. I bought this car used after my grandfather died. I would have never chosen a car this large, but in whole I am quite pleased with it. It is very well- built. Everything is solid and it rides well. It gives the driven a firm feel for the road which is important. The leather seats, while too large for me, are well-supporting and easily adjustable. The five-speed transmission shifts smoothly and offers a lot of fun acceleration. The air conditioning works well and doesn't draw too much power from the engine. The fuel economy, while not that of a Civic, is very respectible (~30 mi/gal for my driving). The especially enjoy the sunroof which is automatic.

Never expected this from a Honda, which is why I saved up to buy it in the first place. What a mistake! Honda America does not even respond to my letters or return my calls for assistance. Don't know why only '00-'01 models get extended powertrain warranty when it is the same transmission in '98- '99 models. Apparently I'll never know anyway since they won't even acknowledge me. This will certainly be my last Honda.

Transmission on this car is defective (same transmission used in 98-01 models). Apparently Honda doesn't care about 98-99 owners b/c the extended warranty on their junk transmissions only covers 00-01 models. People should know they are not standing by their product and causing far too many owners a great deal of hardship by forcing them to replace the faulty transmissions at their own expense. Do not buy this car thinking you are getting "legendary" Honda quality. That is BS. I guess I should at least thank them for converting me into a Toyota customer (even Chevy Cavalier is looking good compared to this thing).

A previous Accord owner, I am highly disappointed by this car. The interior is thoughtfully laid out and very nice. The styling is alright. The performance does not meet my expectations at all. I expected better than 20 mpg (my previous 4-cyl Accord averaged 31). The transmission is terrible! Previous owner had it replaced, but still doesn't shift well at all. This is my first Honda automatic, and my last for sure. I'll either go with a manual 4- cyl or look at a different brand.

I absolutely love this car. Only problem is that I have been experiencing transmission problems since about 2.5 years ago, but it was just minor (or so I thought) rough shifting. I took it in and was told that everything looked ok. Just this past weekend the transmission failed on me at 91K. After doing research I found out that this is a known issue and a recall has been issued for the 2000-2001 models. http://www.auto.com/industry/iwirg21_20020921.htm. I am trying to get the dealership to take care of it. Wish me luck.

I really do love this car! The styling still looks current, and it's fun to drive. It gets great gas mileage, and it has plenty of room for me and four friends. It is a great car for my commute back and forth to college. It provides the functionality of a sedan with the sportiness of a coupe. I've never had a serious problem with it other than the brake switch going out-- the brakes still worked, but the taillights didn't come on. It was repaired under warranty. Other than that, it has not given me a single problem. I'll drive it till the wheels fall off.

Just let go of our 99 Accord EX V6 black/black coupe for an 04 black/black Acuras TSX. I can only hope that the Acura now lives up to the departed Accord. The Accord was a blast! Always got looks, always delivered smooth and fast performance, never any troubles, etc. It hasn't travelled far, we sold it to a family member, so I'm sure we will see it for at least several more years.

We purchased this vehicle when it was 2 years old, with 30,000 miles on it. Right now, we have 60+k miles on it and not a single problem with it. I begin to wonder if the extended warranty (7yr/100kmiles) was a waste of money? We had German cars but this one is by far more luxurious for the price. Also I feel safer driving Honda than VW or BMW.

Celebrating my 5 year anniversary with my Accord and for the most part have been extremely happy. The car is incredibly reliable. Other than a new set of brakes and tires, all I've had to do is change the oil and filter. It is fun to drive, easy to maintain and holds four adults comfortably. The interior, in particular, has held up very well, no cracking leather seats like my previous Acura Legend.

I have driven it 63000 miles and I hate the car. The seat is uncomfortable and the emergency brake jabs into my leg. The cabin is noisy and you feel every bump in the road. The accelleration is slow. The car gets only 24mpg hwy. The ignition has been replaced twice. The car stalls nearly everytime I start it and the dealer cant fix it. The visor broke so it slides freely when I brake hard or turn. The cupholder is too large and un-adjustable. The power windows jam. I have owned an Escort, a Sentra, a Protege and a Regal, and each of them was better than this Accord.

Five years after I bought it, I still love this car— and plan to drive it as long as it lasts. That could be a while. Honda builds amazing engines; even with the 4-cylinder, it has plenty of get-up-and go—love it when the V-TEC kicks in over 4,000 RPM. It's comfortable, capable, and completely reliable. I've only had to do regular maintenance—not a single repair. Plus it's sleek and handsome. Best car I've ever owned.

I couldn't ask for more. Fairly inexpensive, roomy, dependable and a fantasticly well designed 4 cyl engine. It can haul five people comfortably, reach highway speeds with ease (great for merging) and cruise at 90 mph (with yet more available power) all day long. Its been a pleasure to own as it just plain WORKS as a car should and not cost a fortune. 102K,1 set of tires, front brake pads...nothing else...SWEET!

While styling has never been a strong suit for Honda, I still like the looks of my 99 Accord. The spacious interior is a plus. The V6 engine is very smooth and delivers serious acceleration when you need it. The variable timing feature however causes a brief pause when you go for the gas. This has been annoying at times, but the overall performance of the engine and transmission make up for this feature. Mechanical issues have been diminimus. The car responds well to periodic maintenance. One mechanic noted at the 33,000 mile oil change that the engine looked barely broken in (a high compliment).

Overall results are good except for the alternater that went at 42ooo miles- I was told it was a Delco part and that they were having problems with them. I am also having problems with rear wheel bearings. Both sides went bad at about 39000 miles and were replaced by Honda, who told me I would not have any future problems. Eleven months later and less than 12000 miles the right rear was again replaced and I can start to hear the left rear making noice. Any one else having these problems?

You can't find a more reliable sedan. This is my 2nd Accord. It's quick, there's no need to pay extra for a V6. After 50K miles, it's done everything well, almost too well, boring even. But hey, you want to get where you're going or no? I would recommend this car NEW to anyone. I would imagine the used Accord is a good bet also. My sister has a 94 Accord EX, 170,000 mi and has only basic maintenance, no major repairs. Get the leather, it's probably easier to clean. You are going to have this car for a long time.

I drive 150 miles a day to and from work, and this is the prefect car for anyone who is looking for a car that is sporty (I got the 5-Speed) and comfortible. This Accord is as comfortible on the highway as it is on the backroads. The engine does not scream at all at high speeds, it just provides a great ride, and good gas mileage for it's class. I plan to keep this car as long as I can becuase I have yet to see or hear of anything better out there. You will not regret buying this car.

I like my 1999 Honda Accord EXVS better than any other I ever owned or even rented or borrowed. I wish it got better mileage, but 28 isn't bad for a V6 with this performance. The only real flaw is that it is possible for my wide foot to depress the brake pedal so far that it also pushes the gas pedal. This caused a minor accident that might have been serious. The dealer says the pedal are normal, and act like it's my fault, but this should not happen in a properly designed car.

This is my second Accord. I purchased the car at the end of my 48 months lease. For what it is, it drives great. It inspires confidence on the road and the car is easy to position even over the limits. An ideal format for me and it is very roomy. I wouldn't be confortable in a smaller car like an A4 or 3-series. I had a few minor issues, but no unexpected out of pocket expense in 110000km. (except the tire jack that crashed with no reason)! Service from dealer (Blainville) is very good. Styling is contemporary and better than average for the class. I can only recommend.

This is a great vehicle. I feel in love with the LX but could only afford the Ex version. I have not been disappointed. I have had no problems other than: -a seatbelt attachment replacement - a brake sensor needing adjustment - door locks going out Most of these things were covered by warranty. Although I do not have the V6, I still like how this car performs, rides, and looks. After four years, I am still very happy with it and plan to hold onto it for quite a while. It's nice to know that Honda's really hold their value in case I do decide to trade in.

Like the look inside & outside. Great gas mileage with 25/30 easily. Performance, ride, feel, quality, fuel economy basically hold after 4.5 years in use. Dynamic performance is so so even in new but this type of car is mainly for family use. Overall impression? A solid car with high quality for years - a huge plus for any vehicle. High resale value is the reflection of that. Complaints? Yes. Screw loose type of rattle noise is kind of born with the car and annoying. Trans automatic gear shift is not the best. Engine is occasionally hard to start in cold or raining days.

I'm tired of this thing after only 1 year. I still don't see what all the fuss is about. This car is terrible in cold weather and rain. The engine makes a beautiful sound, but that is about all you can expect from it. The 2.3L probably would scream in a Civic, but is not quite enough for the heavy Accord. The interior just screams cheap. The steering is a loose and shaky, as are the brakes. After a year, I already want to get rid of it. What a boring car.

I have enjoyed owning this car more then any other. It drives like a dream and looks great. Safety test on this car indicate that it is least likely to roll over compoared to others in the same vechile class and performs above the average on crash tests. Other then regular 3,000 mile oil changes and the recommended check ups, I have spent no money on upkeep or maintenance.

Great car!

My only complaint with this car is road noise. At freeway speeds there is a fair amount of road noise that seems to come from under the car. Other than that, we love this car.

Got a Honda Accord Ex sedan in Apr. 99 and it is a wonderful investment. The only gripes that I've had were like the guy in the previous review said, I got scared when the engine stalled when I was in the left turn lane. Everything died and I was luckily able to make it to my Honda dealer after restarting the car 10 times. Honda fixed it free of charge though cause it was a recall. That happened when the car was at 60K miles. Now, its at 77K and still running well. I just wish now it had more horsepower

This is my second NEW Honda (my first was a 97 accord) and I am trading it in for my third new Honda this month. I have had NO mechanical problems with it in 72,000 miles. Everything inside the car MAKES SENSE for the driver and the passengers. I never had to worry about whether or not my car would start, or whether I had the power to pass a slow truck on a two-lane mountain road. In fact, my first Honda was nicknamed Balto by my kids - after the incredibly loyal and reliable sled dog from the legend. Bottom line, I LOVE this car, and you will too!

Three problems with Honda Accord: 1) The car jitters when the driver wants to accelerate after slowing down for a turn or for a stop sign. It is very uncomfortable and it is dangerous, e.g., when one wants to make a left turn and the car does not accelerate smoothly and promptly. 2) Banging noise when one starts the engine. These two problems occur in every new Honda Accord of 1998-2001 years. Honda can do nothing about them. 3) The engine stalls due to ignition switch prematurely worn out. It is dangerous since if your engine stalls while driving in traffic, you are at risk of being hit. Honda has recalled its 1997-99 Accord for repairing this defect.

I love this car. I tested several cars and this one had a very open and relaxed feel, while other cars seem to have the driver "boxed in". The 4-cyl is a fairly quite engine. My only complaints is that my gas mileage so far has been 21/27 and the specs (which may be merely an average) I recall as 23/30. But I haven't taken any serious road trips yet, so maybe it's better on the highway. The dealership Poquet Auto was great. No haggle-pricing, speciailizing in cars coming off leases - just the amount of depreciation we wanted on our vehicle. The car's paint job was meticulously touched up and we got new tires & brakes.

We have owned a number of Accords and this is the best by far. It looks and drives like the day we bought it. Our servicing dealer has done all the normal PM and we have had no mechanical problems. It still has the original brakes! While we have drived a new V6 Accord and the Acura, they do not materially inprove on this car.

My first Honda, definately not my last! No comparison as far as quality and reliability from any other car. Comfortable, nice ride, very smooth and quiet. The V6 is AWESOME. Interior and exterior design is outstanding. I traded in my Lincoln for it (loooking for a bit smaller car) and thought I was stepping down in quality. The Honda is by FAR a better Car! Already thinking about getting a 2003, also. I Love this car and if your considering getting one, just do it!

But, now, I have all four solenoids that are inop. Has anyone else experienced this ? What is the estimated cost to replace these ?

I bought my EXV6 new, and needed to replace the transmission at 42,000 miles after doing all maintenance recommended by the owners manual and more. Honda ate 75% of the $5700 cost after one month of bugging them. Honda extended the tranny warranty on 00-01 models, but neglected to do so with the 98-99 with the same transmission. Requests to Honda to explain any differences between 98-99 and 00-01 transmissions have gone unanswered. EGR valve replaced at 60,000 miles under extended warranty. Stereo replaced at 52,000 miles because of constant CD skipping. Ignition harnesses were recalled on many of these cars - be careful!

This was my first car and I have to tell you, it was my favourite. Everything about just made me swoon, from the sound of the engine to the comfort of the leather, to even the sunglass holder in the overhead. My parents loved it so much that when my lease was over, they bought it! The only problem I really had was that for a student, it wasn't very good on gas, and the maintenance was expensive from the dealership. Also, my heated seat malfunctioned once and almost burned my butt off! (well at least that was what it felt like) but no other problems. Honda fixed it immediately, and actually gave me coupons for 3 free maintainence checks.

I never thought I would find myself in an Accord because there were so many of them on the road already and I did not want to be like everybody else. But when I test drove this car, I understood why it was so popular. And for $13,000 for a used one with 38000 miles, it was perfect. The car is quiet, comfortable, and has plenty of power coming from the 200HP Vtec engine. And I definitely like the exterior styling on this generation compared to the new 2003 models.

I purchased my 99 Accord EX 4cyl new so I figure now is a good time to write a review. The car has been exactly what I expected it to be. It’s been extremely reliable, great gas mileage, very good ergonomics, and fun to drive. The car has not seen the inside of a repair shop expect for routine maintenance and the one recall. The ergonomics is great as is the fit and finish and the type of materials used. To keep the cost down Honda choose not to illuminate the locks, power windows and the secondary controls on the steering wheel when the lights are on at night. The pedals are perfect for me and I really appreciate the large dead pedal.

Plus, I love the leather interior and the beauty. That is not prevelent with the VWs. I decided to cut down on the mileage of my Mercedes which had 240K miles and get a reliable yet economical car. Honda was recommended. The check engine light came on at 50K miles. It was a faulty EGR valve. Honda sent me a service notice that the design in the EGR valves were faulty and that for 7 years or 80K miles if the check engine light came on and it was determined to be the EGR valve, that it would be replaced. At 70K miles the EGR valve replaced again. Next the trans started slipping and acting erractic. A $630 repair job and a bandage fix. Recommendation a replacement trans for $4600. Now hub bearing, a gasket causing antifreeze leak have appeared.

My first car was a '91 honda civic sedan. I thought the car was ok, until I leased a '98 toyota corolla. I did not like the way it handled and even though it had all the power options and sun-roof, I would have gladly traded back to my old civic. after a while I got used to the corolla, but when the lease was up I went straight back to Honda. I purchased a '99 Accord. It was like sitting in my favorite chair again. I love it. The power, the speed, the room, the trunk space, the compliments that I get when I get my oil changed (they think I do my own work on it too...I never open the hood)

This is my second Honda Accord and I have generally been pleased with performance & reliability. After purchasing this one I noticed very loud road / wind noise when traveling on the highway. Talking quite loud is necessary for conversation on the highway. The vehicle has a sunroof with bug shield, which may have some culpability but the noise does not seem to be localized in that area. That's my only complaint, but it's a very annoying problem.

What a great car. Coming from a 300ZX, I was used to a sports car. My 2dr V6 coupe has the power of my old Z (and more) but the comfort and room of a full size car. Just turned over 60200 miles in 3 years, and have had almost no problems at all. Handles well for a sedan type car (with high performance sport tires -- ditch the Michelens), comfy to drive, looks good, decent power, and a great value. Removed the stock airbox and put in a KN cone type air filter system...the motor sounds great!!

I loved the look of this car when it first appeared back in 1998. I finally bought a pre-owned Accord, a 1999 model, this last year in 2001. I've gotta say, the car looks great in and out (I get compliments often from friends), BUT I've never owned a car with so many rattles. The dash, glove box, and back shelf rattle to no end-- I've attempted the dealer repair route and got nowhere. THEN, the car began stalling: this is an automatic. After FOUR trips to an independent repair shop, they were able to narrow down the cause. It was a lease-return with low miles, so I was not expecting to encounter problems.

I think the body style is one of the best on the road. I feel a little cramped in it though. I think one of the most useless features is the power height adjustment. I still dont sit low enough in it even when its all the way down.
