I bought my Taurus for $100 with 185000. It needed new struts, y-pipe, and a muffler. I replaced the spark plugs, wires, and air filter it didn't need it i just decided to do it. In the end i payed $800 dollars for it and have been diving it for 2.5 years. A common flaw with these cars is the rocker panels rot but it has 203000 miles now and its been driven through New Hampshire winters for 14 years so rot is expected especially with these cars. The engine is noisy but the drivers seat is super comfy. The trunk and back seat has a lot of room. The interior is OK. The plastic on the dash is separating and its kind of cheap but for 800 bucks ill get over it. Love my Taurus.

She was a good first car, pretty safe and definitely didn't toot along, she could build up some speed. We had a lot of problems with her though, the air conditioning would go, we'd recharge it, and it would go again, the battery went, and numerous others. She also wasn't too great on gas and flew through it pretty quickly. We finally lost her when the oil tank was leaking and the engine over heated and blew. I miss her, but I won't get a Taurus again.

I had a person that had one of these and he was selling it to me. He let me test it out for a few weeks before buying it for 300 dollars. it had 124000 Miles on it. The car was amazing to say the least. The tires were aweful but it still drove down the road perfectly. The engine and transmission were 100% smooth running and it was FAST (IMO). So a week after I had it to test it, I decided to look underneath the car. I had a 7 inch wide OPEN hole in my drivers side floor pan. Both rocker panels were non existent. AND, the sub frame had 4 holes in it. I decided to give it back to the person.

I bought this 1999 Taurus sedan about 5 years/42k miles ago. It has been OK, not particularly good or bad, except when it left me stranded at 1:30AM on a remote highway. I had had the accelerator cable replaced TWICE due to a broken plastic fitting which attaches it to the arm of the accelerator pedal. Luckily I had a knife and a piece of plastic in the trunk of the car, and in fifteen minutes I designed and carved a replacement fitting. The hardest part of this fix was lying with the door sill in my back trying to install this in the dark, by feel. It's a shame the design and test engineers couldn't have done their jobs in the first place. This part broke three times; why no recall?

I am quite surprised by some of these reviews. I bought my 99 Taurus with 35k miles and it now has 160k miles. I have had no problems what so ever with this vehicle. I have a friend with a 98 and his has 250k miles on it and it runs like a champ. I do regular maintenance on my vehicle, oil changes, a few trans flushes, breaks and the like. Overall, I have been quite happy with this car and look forward to another easy 100k miles. -Paul

When I purchased my Taurus 4 years ago it had 132,000 miles on it. It was a one owner and I purchased it directly from the owner who had kept every receipt for oil changes, tires. They had changed oil every 3000 miles. I change it every 5,000 miles and it uses no oil in between. This has been a very reliable car. All I have had to do was some a/c work $600.00, replace battery and tires. It now has about 186,000 miles and I will keep it until it gives out. The body looks good. I don't feel like I am driving an outdated car (the spoiler makes it). It has been a blessing to me.

I fixed it in about a week then 5000 miles down the road while I was getting a brain tumor removed the motor blew on the highway leaving my wife all by herself with no help at night. This car is awful do not buy one don't even think about it get something else avoid at all cost.

Car was perfect til about 110k. Had a few minor issues but nothing out of the ordinary. Then, since 10/07, have only put about 18k on it. 2 racks, 4 power steering pumps, still growls even though new pump. Have had pumps die after just 3 weeks. As far as rest if time, gas mileage on ordinary driving, 20 mpg. This car replaced a 91 caprice which got the same, but had a V8. Have gotten as high as 29 on highway. Adequate power, has gone down since bought car. Tranny--no actual problems except speed sensor a while back. Ride--a little stiff for long trips being the SE, but corners well. Love: fold down rear seats.

These are a lot worse then the 95 model that I had. Not only are they slower, if you do not have the cams welded, your motor will be shot. The trans is just about the same sloppy shift as a regular model Taurus. You think they would of built a tougher trans being the sho has 235 horses. Sharp looking car and it does handle Nice. Gas mileage is fair, but if you have power, who cares about gas. It's sad, but the 95 s. H. O automatic would of put this v-8 sho to shame, the manual version would of smoked this v8 sho in the first 2 gears.

Purchased brand new in 1999, fully loaded gold with tan leather moonroof, 24 V eng. This car has NEVER left us stranded, and has never once been unreliable. The only money put into the car in 10 years has been : tires, oil, brakes, light bulbs and battery/plugs. This car has been driven VERY HARD by 2 teenage boys when mom wasnt using it! had to replace transmission at 98k no big deal. Car has probably been in over 200+ drag races (almost always won) gave car to son and bought a new 2007 Lincoln MKZ :)

Bought the car after last car was hit. Liked the mid-size Mitsubishi, but high $$. I knew the Taurus and a few were avail. 81K when bought, 100K 1 year later. $1800. Comfortable, easy to get in and out and park. Decent power and for a car of this size and type it's fun to drive. These cars don't hold value and I'm not sure why - they seem reliable but are just plain. Perfect for NOT getting noticed by cops or stereo thieves. Decent for commuting or road trips. This car is roomy enough and easy enough to drive to be able to get in and drive all day.

So far, great first car!

I bought my Taurus SE a yesterday days ago from a private seller for $1,500. Best buy I have ever made! The car runs like new even at 176,000 miles! it's incredibly comfortable and a relaxed car that handles really well. I have drivin my sisters '94 Honda Accord, and the Taurus has better power and acceleration, and yet still manages to be smooth. I also love the stereo system! Great car!

I bought my ford taurus used with 115,000kms on it. Now with 320,000kms I am considering replacing it. The frame has rusted and the tranny is on its way out. It's built tough. In accidents where other cars would've crumpled, this taurus came out with a only a few dents and some repairable alignment issues. I take excellent care of my vehicles and they do tend to last a long time. This one is the best so far.

Needed a new fuel pump, engine revs itself, overheats frequently, faulty hoses and wiring, doesn't start sometimes for no reason. I was really excited when I first got the car and have been frustrated ever since.

My dad gave me the car 2 years ago. I have loved it up until recently. It's been a well maintained car while both of us have had it, more recently, really stupid things have been going wrong with it, like the heater hose, but guess what they don't make those heater hoses any more...by the way the are a molded maze of nightmares, the master cylinder was just replaced with the brake booster too, and the cam shaft position sensor went bad, don't go by the diagram to replace it, you will never find it. The starter is out on it now, due to an oil leak and I had to replace a battery, for the second time, 90 bux they are for that car. i liked the car, until ford stopped makin parts for it!

My mom purchased car new in 99 because I recommended it, Nascar, and it's 5 star crash test rating. LOVED IT. Great Performance & Style, what made it was the opt. DOHC 24V & spoiler makes the car look 100% better (esp. in black). I inherited it in 06 w/ 47k mi. after it sat neglected in Fl for over a year, got it running & drove it back to home to it's origin in PA w/ no problems. Fixed it up and did some mods 2 up performance & looks, man did it make a difference. Engine purred even when stock, growled w/ aftermarket exhaust. I LOVED this car & made it into something beautiful, sold it @ 73k mi. because was time 2 move on to something that fit me better..Cobra. Farewell T..

I bought this car used from a dealership. I twisted their arm into giving me a 1K warranty and immediately I brought it in for repair. They said everything checked out fine, so I took it to a local mechanic and they said there were issues with the transmission. By the time I found that out, the 1K miles were up and the dealer only reimbursed me for some repairs done by the local mechanic within the 1K miles. 1.5 years later car still runs (barely) but the heat is gone, electric locks don't work, and I can't unlock my doors with a key in the winter cause of the internal locking mechs are bad. Do your research before purchasing a ford.

I had my Taurus se sedan for about 2 years now, and I have to say it’s been great. Like any other car, minor things go. All I had to replace in it since I had it was the starter and two front tires. No big deal. That’s normal parts to fix. I just replaced the battery not because I had to but because I wanted a brand new one good for 5 years. Other than that it’s been very dependable. Starts up everyday. No dings, dents or rust on it at all. I love the style. Like it a lot better than the newer styles out now. Iit drives very well. Handles very well. As long as you get an oil change every 3,000 miles. I love the power seat. 6 different adjustments.

I've had this car since 2007 and it has about 135,000 miles on it. I must say this is by far the worst car ever. The transmission is terrible and jolts all the time, especially in traffic. Gas is terrible compared to my old Avalon. gets around 16-17 in the city and 23-26 highway. As a college student I can't afford to fill this thing up all the time. I can continue to go on and on with the problems of this car. Never buy one ever.

She look great up to 12/15/2008 when a lady nearly hit the car head on. Sadly the insurance is going to write this off even though she still drives great. Full power everything inside. Purchased car for $1500. Needed car for personal/work. I use car on occasion for mail delivery. Roomy enough for trays in driver's seat, and comfortable enough to right-hand drive without hyper-extending the legs/arms. Gas mileage is excellent - 26mpg personal (I have over 141k), and 15-17mpg for work (I drive 72 miles and have over 300 starts/stops.) I recently replaced rack/tie rods/ball joints, but it was not Ford's fault. I curbed the tires when delivering mail. Great in snow. Have never been stuck - even in 10 inches of snow! Use Havoline oil & Seafoam - increased mileage 3-4mpg. My carrier just replaced his Taurus for new one. Wouldn't replace if wasn't reliable!

I purchased in early 2000 with 19,000 miles on it. Now has 202,000 and uses no oil between changes. Other than regular servicing, no major repairs. Great mileage at 25 MPG city/highway. The heater only runs lukewarm since about 150,000 miles and the AC just quit at about 195,000. Both are major repair items which I am not fixing at this stage of the car's life. Overall has been an excellent car and would buy another low mileage 99 if I could find one.

I bought my 1999 Ford Taurus SE wagon in 2001 as a lease turn in. The car has never failed me. Only tires, brakes, fluids and filters have been replaced. The car bought with 29,000 miles on it for 11 grand, now has 208,000 miles on it. The tailgate is starting to rust. I hate the fact that Ford killed this car off. I would buy another one in a heartbeat, as a matter of fact, I am looking for a 2004 Sable now to replace my Taurus. The car does nothing exceptional, but everything well. It has never broken down, never been on a tow truck. The power locks have just quit on me, but for a car with 208,000 miles on it and no payment for three years, I say thank's very much, Ford Motor Co.

Bought this in 2000 with about 24,000 miles. Sporty, with 24V V-6, alloy wheels, spoiler. This car has been plagued with electrical problems including wipers that periodically turn on by themselves, power locks don't work, power window doesn't work. It started using oil at about 50k miles despite changing it every 3- 4k miles and no hard driving. Gas mileage is poor for a mid-sized V6 (worse than our V6 Camry and V6 minivan). The rack & pinion steering had to be replaced at about 40k miles. Has the upgraded stereo with CD changer which sounds excellent. Overall the car looks nice and is fun to drive, but the reliability is poor. I am buying Japanese from now on.

I adopted the car from my mom which she bought it brand new. She always had it serviced by Ford for everything. The design of the front rotors are under spec for the car. Ford should have used bigger rotors. The rotors would warp very easy and would have to be turned or replaced. This is with factory rotors and good after market ones. The transmissions are known for problems with these cars. The trans oil pump failed when the pin broke and the differential had to be replaced. This is Ford short cutting the transmissions. Like I said, this is a known problem. The 3.0 Duratec motors are pretty strong, but a real pain to get to the back plugs, you have to remove the intake to get access.

What an absolute nightmare. The repair costs have exceeded the price i paid for this pile of crap. I have had to replace the hub and bearings THREE times, had to fix air conditioning and now the heater core is not working due to a leak. Oil pan, of all things, rusted out and was replaced. Water pump was replaced. Engine gaskets replaced. Transmission was replaced at 150km's. The only thing that works all the time is the check engine light. The wipers are work well, however they turn on randomly, making me look like a fool on clear and sunny days. I am currently shopping for a new vehicle, but i will NEVER purchase a FORD again. I'd rather buy a horse or a bus pass.

Well, the only reason that I am driving this stupid jellybean is because it was free. My mom bought it and handed it down to me. I've been driving it for a little over a year, and I dont like it. Its somewhat reliable, but my power locks stopped functioning after 2 months. The stock rims are crappy, they are all corroded and gross. Also, it is a jellybean. There is not one corner on that car, everything is round and stupid looking. Its very comfortable though. Gas mileage isn't great but its not the worst I've seen. Lately the engine has been revving itself so thats not good. Check engine light never goes off because Ford designed a crappy gas cap.

Bought this car with 36,000 miles for $6,000 and put almost $4,000 in repairs in 4 years. Always needs alignments. ABS light came on after front brakes were fixed. Replaced rack & pinion steering TWICE. Replaced heater core and heater broke again less than one year later. Mysterious rusty radiator fluid means more problems. Mechanic said, "I wouldn't put any more money into this car." Radiator overheated last night on my way to TOYOTA dealership. Now I have a RELIABLE car!

You better be ready for this...

Bought used 3 1/2 years ago with 68k. Had to repair brakes twice, coolant reservoir, heater core, wheel bearings...but the car has never stranded anyone. Know going in that this car has a lot of design defects that you need to be aware of. Brakes, transmission, coolant system (including heater), are all going to fail. I do like the car though. Comfortable and safe, and it has turned me into a mechanic.

2nd owner of the car, bought off of a family member. She's got 186,000 on her, but it's one thing after another. First, the rack on the steering went. OK, then I blew a coolant line, which Ford says, requires me to replace ALL the coolant lines in the system. Definably going either Honda or Toyota. This is my 2nd car, and being a high school student, I can't afford the repairs. Would be a great car, if it wasn't for the mileage.

My first car was a 90 Taurus and I beat that poor car to death. I was in a very bad accident in the Jeep that I owned before purchasing my current Taurus, so I wanted a car that was safe. I love the handling, the get up and go, and the car is incredibly comfy. However, the brakes are AWFUL, I have already had to replace them 2 times. Also, my car started chirping very loud, like a bird when it was cold (right after purchase). I was very upset thinking the guy sold me a ticking time bomb, but my Dad changed my transmission fluid on a whim and it has been quiet ever since. The previous owner used the wrong fluid. Overall I am very happy with my car. I got a very good deal on it.

I purchased this new w/ incredible discounts, $8,000 off and 0.0% financing, no Japanese car can compare with that. The interior space is great, I'm 5'11", 270lbs and I have no problems getting in or out. I can not get into hardly any Japanese vehicle. I have not had to make any repairs on this vehicle and saved over $10,000 compared to comparable Japanese cars. I love my Taurus and will be giving it to my 16 year old son to drive because I know it is dependable.

The Taurus SHO and other models (G, LX etc.) has been a very great asset to Ford. I love my SHO, it has everything I want in a car except a 5-speed or a shiftable automatic. The car is fun to drive and very solid. However, I feel that Ford has a big problem on their hands with all the terrible camshaft failures. I think Ford should own up to the problem and fix all the cars that fail or have a recall and put properly made cams in the cars. Many people love their SHO's and it seems like the right thing for Ford to do. I would expect such a huge company (one of the big three) to own up to the production flaw. Why should people have to get their cams welded? Ford needs to pay for it.

Great all around car. I bought it second hand and have put well over 10,000 miles on it. Good acceleration, good handling, plenty of room for four and a big trunk. I would definitely recommend the 24V motor - 50 extra HP, and huge difference in acceleration and speed over the regular 12V motor. No squeaks or rattles on the road. Fast enough to merge anywhere with no problem. I have gotten as high as 27 MPG on long trips with the cruise control set at 72-74. Overall, a great car for a reasonable price.

Nightmare from beginning to end. Spent top dollar on it, and it is now worth little to nothing. At 65,000 miles, transmission dropped, heater does not work, brakes are junk and they have been replaced countless times, electrical is so goofed up that I can't get the power locks to function properly, engine coolant reservoir cracked, oil seals went, sounds incredibly loud while driving, windshield wipers short out and occasionally don't work, keyless entry doesn't work. Ford really needs to drop the Taurus from its line up. It has been nothing but a money pit from day one, and we have done everything to it maintenance-wise. It's terrible on gas, our 2004 Expedition gets better mileage. What a mess.

Bought after light use as an executive rental car. At 37,000 miles, power steering on front-drive car required complete replacement at great expense. Electrical system problematic (wipers turn on without human intervention). Full 60,000 mile maintenance done by dealer. Within one week, battery dead; car wouldn't start when hot. Finally died completely. Alternator/generator replacement. Auto transmission shifts taking longer and longer. Transmission locked into third on steep hill, engine lugged up hill, check engine light on, diagnosis: two cylinders blown, substantial repair required. Car being sold as-is, at substantial discount from nominal value, with 71,000 miles. Ford unresponsive.

I got a great deal on this new '99 in Jan. 2000. It has the 24v engine & the standard SE package. I drive it 900 miles to Fla. & 900 back twice a year with only an oil change before the trip. To work and church are both 4.5 mi. so it does get up to operating temperature most times it's driven. The only thing that has broken is the accelerator cable (June '05) and it took forever to get the part as it seems none have ever broken before & none could be found locally. I love driving this car! It accelerates VERY well, and surprises a lot of "tuner" cars off the line. It gives great mileage on the interstate, but, with my heavy foot I use a lot of fuel. So I'm careful. Still 100% stock. Love it!

The car that hit me was a Corolla and it was totaled but my car only has bumper damage. Has lots of room for passengers. I've driven about 5,000 miles so far and it's at 75k and no problems with the car yet. It's pretty good with gas but could be better.

Beautiful with alloy wheels and very comfortable. However, the air wasn't working when I bought it at 53,000 miles, but forgot to check it until after sale. Then it needed a new transmission at 56K, but received a used one for $1200 since new was almost $3000. Then oil leaks, coolant leaks, and at 70K the heat stopped working. Squeaks and rattles here and there. I called Ford three times about the transmission, asking for help, and each time they said engineering would get back to me. Can you guess if they did? Not. If this vehicle had had a 5 year, 60,000 mile warranty, the transmission would've been covered, but the warranty was 3/36. Plus, the resale is horrendous. Avoid.

It is an okay car for the money we spent. We have had some repairs at 72,000. The biggest thing, and something we would have liked to know before we purchased the car, is that the Taurus has problems with the heater core and the heater going out. We're working on the second time of backflushing the heater core in order to avoid having to replace it. It is very expensive (and cold)! It is a comfortable, powerful, and roomy car - good for road trips, camping, and trips to the hardware store. A very nice back seat - for people and our large dog. I would recommend buying one, just know that there are some flaws associated with the Taurus Wagon.

We bought a '99 LX used in 2001 with 17,000 miles, paid $9,500. Pretty base model, no power locks, no power seat, steel wheels, base V6. It does have the AX4N transmission, the same one that goes in the Duratech powered cars, should last longer then the car - much better then the AX4S that normally goes in the Vulcan powered cars. Driven the car 66,000 miles with two repairs; the wiper washer pump and an exhaust sensor - total about $150. New rotors on the front at 60K, trannie flush at 40K. Paint looks good, interior is in good shape too even with two kids tearing it up. A good rock solid car for the money; bought my mom one just like it a month later for even less.

My '99 Taurus is falling apart around me: electrical problems, sensor lights, a/c died and temperature only blows very hot, front end problems (ball joints), antenna stuck up. One saving grace, the 24 valve Duratec engine is a workhorse, still has great pick-up at over 100k. I am looking at the new Freestyle but won't touch it unless Ford puts this engine into it.

Spedometer quit at 24,000 miles; alternator at 40,000; steering at 80,000; EGR Valve at 85,000; thermostat at 90,000; EGR sensor at 90,000 and door ajar sensors are now acting up at 98,000. Selling ASAP. I will never buy a Fix Or Repair Daily again! I bought a 99 taurus back in 2000. One year later ( just barely out of warranty) the brakes had to be replaced, the 2 front rotors had to be replaced, and the electrical features (keyless entry, power locks, windshield wipers) would short out & not work. (this is at only 40,000 miles) Now, when the cars barely four years old, the heater core had to be replaced, the engine coolant resivor cracked, the thermostat was replaced, the transmission needs replaced , the brakes still have issues , & more electrical problems than ever! Its absolutely terriable on gas, its not built as economically as its rivals, we just bought a brand new ford expedition, & it gets better mileage than the taurus

I bought my 99 Taurus new w/ the 24 valve DOHC engine package. It has been extremely reliable and a solid car to drive. My driving mix is 60% interstate / 40% local. The only major repair item in 5+ years were full struts at 60k which with new tires makes it run and handle like a new car. Everything else still original - even brakes! I forget this car is 5 yrs old, it is tight, quiet and a good runner. My complaints: the a/c fan softly "squeaks", this also happened on our 95 Windstar (which was not nearly as reliable at 5 yrs out), & the driver seat is low so I use a cushion. This was the last year for the "old" design (which I like even more now than I did then) and for me it was a winner.

Bought this car brand new in 1/2000. Have not had no problems with the engine or transmission like I had with my GM vehicles. Only problems I had were the wheel bearing cracked at 50000 miles nd had to be replaced. Had to replace the engine emission sensors twice. Recently, the brake light came on and stayed on even though the brakes worked fine. Had to get the brake pads and rotors replaced and now no more brake service light. This car gets good mileage and can't complain about the engine always starts in our cold MI winters.

My '99 Taurus started it's life as a half way decent car, but at about 6 months into ownership it was one problem after another. It might not be "Fix or Repaired Daily", but it has been averaging repairs about every other month. No other car I have owned in the last 20 years, domestic or foreign, has been as unreliable as this clunker. If you buy one, be prepared to have the breaks replaced about 3 times or more a year, along with some other expensive surprises. JUNK!!!

We bought this car new 4 years ago and it currently has 80,600 miles on the odometer. The car has been exceptional! With the DOHC engine, it really moves when you want it to. The lumbar seat with leather are so comfortable on trips.Gas mileage is acceptable at 28- 30 mpg. Only repairs we needed were to have newbrake pads. The big drawback is that the depreciation is extreme.

This car was well-maintained by the first owner, whom I knew. I bought it with 53K and, 3K later, the transmission went. That's a 1000 dollars for a used transmission with a 3-month guarantee! Ford Consumer Affairs took my information and said someone would review it. Uh-huh. A local Ford service writer said that the most he'd seen Ford give customers towards out-of-warranty repairs was $500, but you had to have the work done at a dealership, which would cost $2600! Yikes! Do not buy this car, it is too risky, and Ford does not stand behind their product. P.S. All the mechanics and transmission shops I went to or called said the same thin

This is my second Taurus. The first had trans problems (1990). I decided to give it a try again. I purchased it slightly used with a warranty. It was loaded and a great size for my family. There was a trans problem with the car (55000 miles on it). The dealer fixed it before I took it home. Since that time this car had a lot of problems. Serpentin belt cracked, needed new hoses & plugs, brought it back 4 times for the transmission, and then this weekend I opened the trunk and found 3 inches of water in the spare tire well. The whole trunk was wet. It had (66000 miles on it). It also needed more maintenance.

We bought ours with 26,000 and have been most pleased. The only req'd work has been maintenance items. The only minor complaint is a squeak in the power steering but only in the summer (hey, you would squeak too in Texas heat!). I have read some of the other reviews and consider myself blessed to have found a good one that we intend to keep a LOT longer. Sure there are minor things to keep up with but nothing makes me want to trade it at this point. Would recommend anyone looking for a value in used cars to look at a Taurus - great size, features, and reliability at a reasonable price.

So far an excellent car. I have put about 4,000 miles on the car since I bought it, and it has performed flawlessly. It had 82,000 miles when purchased. I am a senior in college, so having a reliable car is important to me, considering I go to school 600 miles from home. The wipers seem to come on by themselves occasionally, but so far that is the only problem. The engine and transmission seem to be doing fine, and are much smoother/quieter than some of the 'professoinal' critics would have you believe. Nearly imperceptible upshifts/downshifts. Does not use or leak even a drop of oil, a first for any American car I've ever owned. A/C works perfectly.

55,000 miles. Fast if you step on it. In need of brakes tires struts. Car feels beat up, but its a Ford over 50k miles I should expect that. Radio stinks, no in dash CD. More sound deadening would be nice. Front seats are way comfy. Engine sounds awesome. Slow off the line, above 3500 rpm it starts to kick it. Trunk could be larger. Paint, body still good. Harsh ride over bumps doesn't help. Steering and handling very good when tires were newer. Excellent touring car passing power awesome. Tranny kicks down slow. Be aware: design defect with v8 SHO's and camshaft design. Ford trying to hide it. Ford should fix this for ticked off owners. V8sho dot com.

It is a good car but there are several design flaws. Like many I have seen, the door ajar light is always lit. The brakes leave a lot to be desired. The seats are very comfortable and it really is a nice riding car. Handling isn't as good as the import sedans but the suspension is definately better. I would lease this car but I would never buy a new one. The resale value on this car drops so much that it will cost you $3K a year to drive it. This 99 was purchased new for $16K and it is now worth $5K.

I was apprehensive about buying an American made car but the Taurus has performed beautifully and there has not been any problems with it, even considering the fact that I bought it used-a 1999 in 2003. A very comfortable car and a smooth ride. I would highly recommend, with any used car, to buy a warranty. I did just in case and so far haven't had to use it. I'd rather be safe than sorry. This is a good car with a lot of features with out the insanely high price tag. Feel good about buying this car.

My Taurus is a good handling all around performer. The 96-99 bodystyle has the latest revised sheet metal edition beaten hands down. I would recommend the 24 valve twin can engine over the standard vulcan engine..Both engines are of high quality, but the twin cam is by far the most fun to drive..Comfort is good in all seating postions of the five passenger SE. The bucket seats are very supportive and the power adjustable drive seat is a real joy...A 96-99 Taurus with low miles and in good physical condtion makes for an excellent and sporty used car value..

I wanna love the car with its'strong 200hp motor & strong acceleration (when the tranny doesn't get mixed up with the gears) I love the design and ample interior space. But it's making me worried - my warranty is up next month and so far had to replaced: Speed sensor, Ignition switch, ALL LOCKS ON THE CAR! they all died (including the trunk lock) one at a time, Battery, Alternator, Accesory belt, Drivers side mirror - the original one CAUGTH ON FIRE while driving! I dont want to be in a market for another car especially when this one is only 3 years old with only 30,000 miles on it - but I'm not so sure I can count on this car for the long run.

Pretty good value for the $$$ spent. Had been reliable, inexpensive to own. However, after 90,000 miles service needs have accelerated rapidly. Driver's seat foam insides have compressed so not comfortable; even with lumbar support. Ok, I like my car. It is a nice looking vehicle and it rides really nicely. I've had minimal issues (i.e. speed sensor went out so I was like driving down the raod and it would randomly decide when it wanted to provide power to the drivetrain!...I mean I would be on the highway and like I would be stepping on the pedal and it just made the engine rev with no power to the wheels! it only cost like 50 bucks to fix so I was gladd :)). I have put like almost 40000 miles on that car in like a year and a half (its at 76000 now), and it still drives smooth. Taurus=good contour=bad

Got serviced at 36000, break problem started.. Now car is at 41000 miles and all kind of oil is leaking and messed up brakes too. Asked dealer why is it leaking, they are saying it is regaulr for tarus when they are above 40000. Now I am spending another $1400 to fix the oil leak. I think I did a big mistake buying this car.. Therefore people learn a lesson from me and do not go for ford taurus. One more thing to note, it has all freeway miles and easy ones..

I was very pleased with my 99 Taurus until we noticed a nice rattle about a month ago. Have discovered it to be one of the two catalytic converters is breaking apart. This is outrageously priced to fix. The part is expensive, plus...the mounting bolts are almost unreachable for some mechanics--one exhaust shop won't even work on it because of the mounting. I bought the extended warranty; however, it does not cover this. WHEW! That's a load off my chest.

When the Taurus changed design from the packing box with wheels to a more slippery body, I liked the new look with a few minor exceptions. The GOOD: my friends fit in it (some range to 6'8") The BAD: Not used to the Anti Lock Brakes The ODD: back window, weird interior door handles and console (the door handles and back window were redesigned). I changed my opinion when driving other mid-sized sedans - they all seemed too cheap and flimsy or a bit too pricy. When telling friends and relatives about cars we tried, every one said "try the Taurus" [..."no, REALLY, TRY the cod liver oil"] I tested one, liked it and bought it.

I paid 10,500 for a near perfect 99' SE, 28,000 miles, with all the options including, electric moonroof, leather, keyless entry, auto lights, auto a/c, security. The Duratec engine is impressive where it counts, overtaking, with a pleasurable engine note. The smaller Vulcan engine I can best describe as "adequate". The transmission could be smarter at times, seeming indecisive at times on downshifts. Build quility seems great with no rattles. There is some road/wind at highway speeds noise but I am not driving a 30,000 dollar car so that is forgiven. Seats are comfortable, with good support.

I paid $9,900 for this '99 Wagon with 26,400 miles on it. It runs great, rides great, drives great, and has a ton of space for my double bass. Great on a trip. I don't race the car so I don't need anything super sporty. Theres a slight rattle in the tailgate somewhere which I haven't sorted out yet. Wanted to upgrade to a CD player but had to buy about $100 of extra equipment to get a standard deck to fit in the oval shaped dashboard. Also, The sixteen gallon gas tank reads empty when there's still four gallons left. So you've only used 12 gallons when it reads empty. That's only a gallon better than my Escort!

I work for ford and bought the 99 taurus se because of incentives. Love the 3.0 dohc motor it really moves also because of the 3.94 axle ratio. Now we'll talk shop the transmission needs more fine tuning by engineering when driving in traffic to go around another car pushing the gas pedal a 1/3 or 1/2 way down at 30 mph it kicks all the way down to 1st gear very annoying!!! It got stuck in front of house on ice and blew the trans at 18,000 miles took it to Elder ford they its covered by my bumper to bumper. Also i've had 3 escorts every one those shifted better than the taurus the new trans doesn't engage properly when you first start it.

Alot of car for the money spent. Has good power. Easy to drive and comfortable. Some little rattles that bother me when going over bumpy road. Like the fold down seat and trunk size. I recomend to buy an extended warranty just in case. My car has every thing on it.

This SE Taurus is the second Taurus we ever own. We bought it at very reasonable price. In 2 1/2 years we have absolutely no problem. It is preppy and nice ride. We have leather seat, all power and moon roof. You can't complain for what we paid. I strongly recommend this car for its value.

My 1999 Taurus SE has 36,000 miles. It has had the scheduled maintenance and has not cost an additional dollar to maintain. Highway mileage has been 28-30 mpg.

Extreme hard start and sometimes no start. Many parts later, leaking fuel pump regulator. Fuel pressure bleed down when parked, no or little fuel pressure to cylinders on initial cranking, then sputter, start. New regulator. Fixed. Brake rotor warp. Have had 2 sets of front rotors and just ground 2nd set to get out warp. Lug nuts not tightened evenly? Car had slight track off to one side of road. Rotated and balanced. Worse. Put all wheels back to their original positions. Much better. Local garage says get rid of cheap General Tires cheap tires. Windshield wiper sometimes comes on by itself.

need values on this vech.

Car is in the shop more than on the road. Over the last three years, I have spend more on repairs than on paying the principle of my loan. Tansmittion went at 39500 miles (36000 mile warrenty), had the roters resurfaced twice, brakes replaced 3 times (first time at 22000 miles, rack and pinnion steering replaced, emissions problems, fuel injectors repaired, etc. Buy something else, anything else. Nothing but problems. A great car if you would rather drive a rental while yours is in the shop, or if you have an uncontrollable urge to throw money away.

After having a Sable Wgn go 200,000 miles I bought this car used. With new shocks and tires, it runs and looks as good as new. DOHC engine is quick but noisy. Interior looks like it was designed by Rubbermaid and is sterile but comfortable. This is a spare car we use for around town and going to Home Depot. Better than a pickup or SUV. Costs less too!

I Purchased my 1999 Taurus SE used with 8500 miles. I noticed a significant differance in my fuel economy from my 93 Taurus that I traded in (Same 3.0 Engine) I Also noticed a excessive amount of pinging, even with the higher octane. (Dealer claims they all do it) At 30000 the transmission failed. (Thankfully while still under warranty) Think I should buy the extended Warr ???

I bought this car 2 years ago for a little over 12 grand and it was money well spent. It's been nothing but completely reliable, and I put a lot of miles on this car, over 2000 miles a month. And the V.6 engine can really move, fun car to drive, much better than those little Hondas that cost more.

I purchased my 1999 Taurus SHO used with 46970 miles. A few months after my purchase my transmission failed at about 48,000 miles. My passenger side power mirror quit working. Also one of my rear seatbelts became loose and wouldn't retract back into place. Otherwise my Taurus was a good looker but not reliable. I now have a 2002 Taurus and I am already having problems.

Transmission failed at 48000 miles. Found out that this is not isolated, but have found over 75 people who had the same problem at about this mileage. This is a standard problem with the Ford Taurus model dating back to 1991. The car is well designed and drove nicely until that occurred. Very comfortable, but you need a transmission to drive.
