I ordered my 1999 Lumina LTZ from GM built to my personal specs. Fully loaded. I had only four problems: 1. Alternator went out after 3 years 2. Switch for the automatic windows went out after 6 years 3. I was told my gas line needed replacement after 11 years (Maybe yes or maybe no) 4. When I floor the car the AC fan slows down ( No big deal since it rebounds after a few seconds) Other than that I have had no other problems. Every time I consider replacing my Lumina I back off asking myself, "WHY". I never had the engine tuned, I change the Oil every 10000 miles whether it needs it or not. The tires get expected life. The Body is in excellent shape minus a couple of parking lot dings

I bought my wife this car because it had the 3.8 and it was so beautiful. I hate Luminas and I didnt consider this a Lumina. It looked different with the package on it...however...it smelled like a Lumina, acted like a Lumina, and it was in the shop once a week like a Lumina. Interior is very uncomfortable. Hard for a real man to back into the cockpit without hitting his head and his butt. Seat is too low to the floor. Knees and legs groaned to get out after 200 miles. Gas mileage in town is 21 and on the highway is 27.7. It still got 21 on 30 mile trips. Had to go on 200 mile trips to get 27.7 Go figure... Intake gaskets and plenums are easy to go out on this. If you smell antifreez

The 1999 Chevy Lumina is the best car ever. I have only had to provide basic maintenance and it still runs like new! My Lumina has 177,00 miles on it and I'm hoping to get another 100,000 out of it! It's still extremely comfortable and handled VERY well after hitting a deer doing 50mph! It never swerved or tried to leave the road. The damage was under $2000.00. It took the impact very well. I only wish they'd start making the Lumina again...I'd surely buy another one! Way to go Chevy!

We purchased this car almost 8 years ago, and it has been very reliable over the years. The engine runs strong, although it isn't the most powerful engine out there. It gets better fuel mileage than I anticipated, and with 189,000 miles on the clock, there are no interior rattles or squeaks and no exterior rust. Recently, we have had problems with the vehicle overheating and the coolant leaks at various places (gaskets are rotting). The steering and suspension can be a little frightening, at highway speeds there is noticeable vibration and grip around turns isn't good, even for a car of this size. Brakes always feel weak, even when replaced, and will begin to pulse on long trips.

I bought this car at 17 for $1700, and I have to say, it's held up decently. It had been sitting for four years in a garage mostly, so I had to replace the coils, plugs, and flush the fuel system, but afterwards it ran pretty well. The 3.1 has decent torque (gets real slow past 45-50 MPH), the MPG is decent for as big a car as it is (I'm guessing 25 average, 27 absolute tops), and I've yet to do any big replacements (AKA Mechanic). Note, it has one cup holder, and it's crap. An Arizona can snapped right through it one day. If it weren't for the poor exterior condition mine's in (I got hit a couple times, no payout), I could be convinced to like it. Beware, handles American (AKA terribly)

I've had this car for over two years and have only changed the oil until today. The original rad is rotting at the bottom and starting to leak... that's not too bad for a 10-year old car. The only com[plaint I have with this vehicle is the unusually wide turning radius... My 2001 Grand Prix turned a lot tighter than this...

I bought my Lumina at a government surplus auction, it had 68k/mi and now has 88k/mi. I was very satisfied when I first drove it,and I still am. It still starts with the flick of the key, idles and runs very smooth with smooth shifting and good acceleration. Steering response is very good and radius is average. I like the brake action from the pedal but think the stopping distance is a little on the far side. I normally get 20mpg city/highway and after fueling up and taking a road trip I got an amazing 29mpg despite doing hard accelerations and 80mph most of the way. I did have the intake manifold gasket replaced, which I was told common on these cars, with other normal stuff.

I bought this car in 2000 for 8500.00 w/40k miles. Its had one tune up and replaced the fuel pump/gas tank the first 2 weeks I had it. Since then its been in two car accidents (one was my fault) and had the front end body work done twice. Over 9 years it has had minimal problems. A/c, stuck window. Nothing Major. This year however, I have spent 1800.00 in repairs. 900 of that at the Chevy dealer. Big mistake. All in all. Its been problem free. Now we may be facing a transmission problem. Motor runs perfectly still. We are nearing 214,000 miles and planning to hit 300 by dec! Body is still Nice. Rides great. Mpg 27 mpg when the engines needs it.. We will rebuild it

My lumina has almost 122 thousand miles on it and is a 99 model. I have never had any problems about it except I have had to replace my spark plugs. Besides that I have my oil changed every 3-4 thousand miles and its still rolling. I only fill up with gas about once every week and a half. Its not a 'cool' car but it gets me from a to b, and is very reliable!

I inhearited my Lumina from my mom. She had the car since 02. Really I have seen no mechanical problems. I'm a delivery driver in college and the gas mileage will suprise you. It's not flashy but it will get you from a to b pretty well. One thing I do have a problem with is there is only one cupholder. All in all if given the chance I think I might get another one

Way to go Chevy! I have been a die hard Chevy fan for years and this car is great! Very comfortable and is fun to drive. The 3.1L V6 provides amazing low end torque and can get you up and going with ease. As for fuel economy, I get 28-30mph on the highway and anywhere from 25-27 in the city when babied! Interior is comfortable and everything is easy to access. Way to go!

I bought my 99 Chevy Lumina 2 years ago with 83000 on it. I currently have 127,000 miles on the car and never had any problems. The power of the 3.1L is outstanding, especially with the low end torque. Im currently getting an average of 29-30 mpg on the highway! Great car is all i have to say! Nothing but regular maintaience and it still runs like brand new! this is exactly the reason why I buy GM products. Nice job Chevrolet!

This car was a dream cake for the first 8 years. Only had regular maintence required. For the 9th year, all hell broke loose! gas tank leak, alternator died, engine gasket failed, leaked radiator fluid, engine clatters badly (piston slap), noisy fuel pump, transmision not running well (1st-2nd gear), brakes required for the first time, battery died, hand break stopped working, tail pipe supports rusted off. I live in the northern climate where lots of salt is used in winter and I still don't have any body rust yet! The paint has not faded much. There's no rattles, squeeks, or trimmings falling apart like my previous GM cars. Engine runs smooth. gas mileage still good.

Good performance, mileage, reliability, reasonably comfortable and great trunk space (with a lousy hinge system). After I reglued all Canadian-installed door weather stipping with silicon (it kept pulling off when the doors opened...) I haven't found much to complain about. Maybe it's too long in the nose, but that's minor.

I have owned this car for almost 2 years now and I have no complaints what so ever. This car is very comfortable, and has plenty of power with GM's 3.1L,V6. I have taken this car on many lengthy trips and have had no problems, the car just keeps on going. I currently have 119,000 miles on the car with nothing but regular maintaince, such as oil changes, coolant and transmission flushes, and a tune up, otherwise, no extra money stuck into this car. I would recomend this car to anyone looking for a comfortable, fun to drive car.

The Chevy Lumina is a great example of a reliable and well built American Automobile. It has decent power and fuel mileage. Even with 129,00 miles, it runs like a car with 50,000. Very solid and very safe. Paint still shines like new. Body does not dent easily. Interior is not fancy, but it holds up very well. Even has keyless entry on a 1999.

We bought this car new and from day one we have had problems with it. Had to replace brake drum a couple of times. They were so bad that we couldn't even get them cut.The drums kept burning up brake pads. Had to replace head gasket that cost me a pretty penny. Radiator leaks. Now there are problems with the transmission, sometimes it seems to be stuck in 1st gear. I don't know. I would never buy a Lumina again.

This car isn't hot or racy. It's not a luxury car but it cleans up well and just keeps on running. Now that may not seem like a lot to some folks but if you're tired of trips back to the dealership then this is your kind of vehicle. I've owned a Lumina for four years and have nothing bad to say about it. My next car will be a little more appealing to the eye but I just hope it can come close to the '99 Lumina as far as reliability.

I inherited this car from my mom after I wrecked mine. The compressor and condensor went out after only two years of ownership. Was told it would be cheaper to replace the car than fix it. The fuel guage stopped working after about two years. The ash tray broke off, two of the air vents are broken, both cup holders are broken, the passenger visor is broken and after more than an hour or two the seats become extremely uncomfortable. However, the car has almost 140,000 miles on it and no major mechanical work has had to be done. I would suggest that you weigh what's important to you in a car before you buy one of these.

This is my first lumina, and sence no longer made my last (to bad). While I have had to put $800.00 in servicing this vehicle during my first month of owning it, it was due to the previous owner not taking care of the car. The servicing required was normal maintenance..breaks,tires,oil change,ect...surprising though is this car ran perfect even with all the neglect!! It has 85000 miles and I exspect atleast another 100000 with only normal maintance. Good job Chevy!

If you care at all about reliability this is not the car you want to get. At this time it is 4 and 1/2 years old. I haven't even finished paying it off and I will have to junk it because I can't afford the repair bills. I fix this car almost every month For example in the past 6 months, I have spent $1200 to fix various problems. Just got an estimate today for another $1800. But, I won't fix it anymore and will junk it. Problems have been bad brake (too frequently need to be cleaned, resurfaced), intake manifold gasket, head gaskets, calipers, pressure control solenoid. See MSN autos site too. Those problems described were my problems too. STAY AWAY!!!

The Lumina has served its purpose for me. AT 177K miles, I'm about to sell it. It's been a reliable car with very few problems. For a 6-cylinder, the gas mileage is not bad. I've gotten my money's worth here, and am only on the second set of tires with tread left. (Mostly highway miles though). Manifold leak seems to be a common problem however.

Our Lumina has taken care of our families transportation need thorugh thick and thin for the past five years. The car has given us few problems considering the abuse we put it through. The car seats six plus the low end torque really gets you moving. When ever the weather is bad our family prefers the Lumina, because it "just feels more secure."

I bought this car for $200 under invoice with 6 miles on the odometer and have enjoyed every mile I put on it since. This car outperforms many cars priced $10K higher... if people didn't have to compensate for their shortcomings with a "name-brand" car, they would save a lot of money! When looking to buy a new car, I researched engines and found that the 3.8 L V6 was highly thought of and I now know why - it is a blast to drive and very reliable. This car has made me a GM customer for life.

I bought this car about a year ago and put another 10k miles on it. After i bought it i had to replace the Intake Manifold, which cost me $300, other than that i did not repair ANYTHING. The car feels very safe. It is heavy, roomy and powerful. Great for long trips. Gas milage could be better. And the V6 is kind of useless since it only puts out 160hp. I dont understand why my friend has a 4 cyl. 2003 Altima and has more hp than i do. Ridiculous. I like my car. I hope to drive it for a long time.

I bought this LTZ new in January, 1999. The test drive sold me on the LTZs' torque, handling and ride! The 200HP 3.8 V6 and the 'stiff' cop car like ride have made this car a favorite. Four and a half years and 143000 miles later this baby's still going strong. The motor is durable and runs smoothly (no tune up yet!). Only mechanical problems have been an alternator replaced at 82K and the tranny rebuilt at 138K. I firmly believe the tranny issue is connected to a dim wit who messed up a filter change @ 70K... Bought and paid for, I hope to keep this going for, well, another 50-60K at least.

I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone who wants a fun car to drive at a moderate price. The 3.8 V-6 is plenty of power and the interior is chock full of features. I paid $6000 for a '99 w/ 80,000 miles on it. High miles, but have only had to replace the alternator and it has 102,000 miles now. I did routine maintenance (plugs, wires, fuel filter, serpentine belt, etc), but that' all just normal

And they're good enough for the police! This is my 2nd Lumina since '98 -- & I drive the H**L out of my cars. The first Lumina had 75000 miles on it when it was wrecked; this one has 91,000 & still going strong! No major maintainence problems with either one -- just routine brake maintainence, oil changes, etc. As a matter of fact, I just had the FIRST tuneup done on this LTZ in June -- the car had 86000 miles on it then!!

I love my car

This is the first Lumina I have ever had the chance to own or drive and I fell in love with it the minute Igot behind the wheel. The ride is very smooth and it handles very well.

This is my 2nd Lumina, both purchased as 1 year used from Avis Auto Rental. My commute is 46 miles/day, with 1/3 city and the other 2/3 freeway. I average 28 MPG (UNREAL). Other than a front brake job at 60K miles on my 2nd car, I have had ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS WITH EITHER VEHICLE requiring dealer service. I currently have 73k miles on my 1999 and STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL TIRES with legal tread! A great front wheel drive system: I live on a hill with lots of snow in the winter and have had this car on many mountain dirt roads with absolutely no power or traction problems. Chevy gets a GOLD STAR for this very well designed, basic sedan.

Overall I am satisfied with my lumina with the exception of two items.First at just over 36000 miles I had an expensive repair due to a leaking manifold gasket losing antifreeze and was told this is fairly common on Luminas.Secondly, when the air conditioner is on the acceleration is poor and the transmission tends to be sloppy.

Our experience with this car has been outstanding. We purchased the car used in 2000 in like new condition and have not put a penny into maintenance aside from oil canges since. This vehicle has been outstanding in terms of its reliability. The car is very well powered yet has reasonable fuel economy for a car of this size.

Love my Lumina!

I have been "nearly totally and completely" happy with my 1999 Chevrolet Lumina. The only change I would sugget is that the seats are not sufficiently comfortable for long-haul driving.

I bought this car with 56000 miles on it. It is a good family-size sedan, quite reliable and comfortable. The only strange thing that the battery is hidden deep inside and to replace it you need special wrenches and about 1 hour of work. This is strange because there is a plenty of place under the hood and the battery could place in a top position for better handling like in most other cars

Bought the car new in '99 and haven't had a single mechanical problem. The LTZ model has plenty of power due to the 200 HP 3.8L engine (same as Grand Prix GT). Handling is very good for a modestly priced sedan. Body roll is minimal in most corners. Interior is exceptionally quiet due to double sealed doors. Excellent car. GM made a mistake by stopping production.

I own the LTZ model and this car is great. The body styling is smooth and the lines of the car blend nicely. The ride could be a little more stiff but stoch suspension feels just fine. I highly recommend this car. The interior is smooth and the seats are comfortable. The pickup is great. Overall this is a good, reliable car.

I've had this vehicle for a couple of years with no drivetrain trouble. Mileage is ok and handling is great with a good pair of Perelli Scorpion tires. Interior design is pretty shabby though. Sun-Visor snap piece comes out of the ceiling every time I remove the visor. Glove box is held together with plastic fasteners and they both broke. Cup holder rubber grips melted with just a cup of coffee.

Nice comfortable car that looks much better with the 16 in. alloys. Quiet ride with little wind/road noise. The 3.1 could use a little more zip but bet good mileage. A great car to drive back & forth to the office with lots of room for the kids.
