I bought this 98 Town Car 3 yrs ago at 105,000 miles. It needed an alternator, but it was inexpensive and expected for a then 16 y.o. car. I have just been periodically doing maintenance, including a transmission flush. It still runs great with a now 118,000 miles 3 yrs later. It has not left me stranded and surprisingly starts after sitting in freezing weather for a week or more - without a jump. Technology (heated seats, climate/stereo controls on steering) is fairly par w/ current vehicles.
Window regulators DO suck, but they work. I'd consider that a maintenance item for an 18 y.o. car that most people think is fairly new.
Overall, if you're going to buy a 15+ year old car - this model is one to buy, as they were manufactured with having in mind that some will be used as a livery/service vehicle. Keep up w/ maintenance and it'll take care of you. These vehicles are inexpensive to maintain, due to its platform being shared w/ a Crown Vic.

I purchased the car almost 9 months ago with 102k miles. It did need some work, an intake manifold, 2 coils, and a serpentine belt, but honestly I guess thats what to expect when you purchase an older high end car. All cars break as they age, its that fine vehicles, lincoln, mercedes etc, require more costly parts. All that work cost me $1,500 which I guess isn't horrible. I had to replace one of my front headlamps because it became yellowed and fogged over, got a new one on ebay for $90! VERY easy to replace! pretty sweet deal! My ac compressor just went only $200. I really love my car, its sleak, powerful, beyond comfortable, and I get to say I have a lincoln! i'd buy another Lincoln!

I have owned this car for only seven months. So far I have had very good luck with this car. So far I needed only normal wear and tear items replaced. A good riding car. I can't complain.

brought the car year and a half ago and rides like a dream but many many many problems. In the year and a half i have had it the window wiper motor has gone out, my windows half the time don't work (all 4 of them), head gasket blew, water that leaks into the back floor when rains and many other minor problems and let me add I take very good care of my cars and don't beat them. I recommend this car but be prepared to drop some dollars on it.

I purchased my 98'Lincoln Towncar Executive from my father at 117000 miles a year ago. He bought it at 50,000 miles from a dealership, it had been a corporate program car. No problems with it. Excellent car. Rides nice, no engine sound in the cab, no problems. My father replaced the upper and lower ball joints before I bought it and did some exhaust work. I put new spark plugs on at 100,000 miles. Otherwise nothing has been done to it. I get 24.5 mpg at 65 mph down the interstate. I'll get almost 30 if I drive 55 down the interstate. Trouble free and comfortable. My only complaint is it is horrible on snow-packed roads so I no longer drive it in the winter.

Bought when new. Regular maintanence, Only time it has ever been in the shop is to have the oil changed every 15000 miles. This makes my 7th Lincoln and they were all wonderful and maintenance free, but this has been the best one yet. To be 10 years old, I still have people think it a brand new car. The styling is so current and it is the most comfortable and smooth, quiet riding car I have ever known. No rattles or leaks. You'll never find a better car or a car with a larger trunk. To this day we get 21.5 mpg on highway. If you are looking for economy, buy a moped! I have absolutely no complaints.

This car currently has 223K on it. It's my father's car and used it work as a limo driver. Up until about 170K, the car was basically trouble free (one or two minor repairs.) The only real constant problem was a hole in the firewall that allowed rain water and snow to get into the passenger compartment.(The car now wreaks of dirty water). However over the past two years this car has been problematic. Heres a list of all the problems we've had: Two bad wiper motors. Two power driver power window motors. Sunroof stopped working. Intake manifold blew(factory defect). Gas mileage has decreased slowly(now 12-14 mpg). A/C compressor inoperative. A spark plug blew out of the engine.

Great car. Love the interior room and trunkspace. Also love that it's an american made rear wheel drive car. Handles well, great exterior styling looks like a mafia car. Built like a tank, I feel safe and ride in luxury. There is a little lack of power, but that can be taken care of (I put dual exhaust on mine!) and performance heads would make a big difference too. Gas milage isn't great, but is good for a car this big.

this car is wonderful to drive. not
great on gas, looks real good. the
only thing is the paint fades on this
model and ford will not make it good.
it's $3500.00 to repaint. only fades
on the passenger side doors. be
careful of the paint job. that is my
only complaint about this car.

I bought this car from a family member
because she wanted something smaller.
I was really hesitant because the car
seems geared towards grandparents and
limo drivers, but I couldn't beat the
price.
But I really enjoy the ride, the
comfort, and the surprising
acceleration. The car has a very
distinctive exterior, and the interior
is functional. As a coach, the trunk
is awesome. Easily holds golf clubs,
baseball gear and then some.
The only problems over the life of the
car have been electrical...the turn
signal and one power window. Other
than that no troubles.

Every car has a few irritations, in
this case door hinges that don't latch
and brakes that pull right very
slightly when it rains, and an
unfriendly trunk that's too deep.
Rides like a cloud, very plush and
relaxing and QUIET!
But best of all I get over 26mpg on
the expressway and average about 21
with a mix of city and expressway
driving.

There have been numerous defects and
mechanical problems over the last 12k
miles. Front end wobble and alignment.
Transmission shudder in third gear and
overdrive. Catalytic converters going
bad. Trim pieces falling off. Stalling
and dying without warning. No error
codes to indicate trouble. The list of
other minor things go on.

Purchased the car with 20,000 miles on
it. I drive every day and I am not
easy on a car. My 98 Town Car
Signature has been truly a wonderful
car and most of all I have had not one
major problem with the car and any
visit to the Lincoln service
department has only given me great
treatment.The car is always reliable
and built tough, I am approaching
110,000 miles on it and I have got the
urge to get something new, however
this car has been so good to me I
don't want to trade it for something
with problems. I would recomend this
car for anyone who desires a luxury
ride and reliability.

I really enjoy this car. I have driving
many types of vehicles all over the
United States and this is one of the
nicest road cars there is. I only have
one gripe about this wonderful car.
Once you have put a number of miles on
any car or truck you must be able to
grease the front end and on this ford
product you can't.That can be dangerous
if you travel a lot. The only thing
else is no power trunk like the
caddies. Not the power of a northstar
motor and a little road noise. But What
a ride. The air ride system and 30
miles a gallon on the freeway in a FULL
size American classic! You will not be
dissapointed .

I purchased my Lincoln Towncar with 28k
on the board back in 06/2000. I now
have 78k on the odometer. I have
driven the vehicle countless times from
MA to FL to vacation in the hot Florida
sun. This vehicle has always been a
pleasure to drive on both short and
long distance trips. Other than the
replacement of front and rear shocks,
at a nominal cost of $300 and scheduled
oil maitenance I have not encountered
any mechanical malfunctions. This car
has been a pleasure to own.
