First sports car ive owned, great car and reliable, owned the car for about 4 years, paint was faded for being a 15 year old car, repainted Rare Alantic Blue. I added cai, and pulleys from AM, best mods for $ made a big defference from stock, i always changed oil every 3k and never had any major problems. Always got me to point A to B no problems, car is easy to wrk on and maintain

1998 best bang for the money.

The mustang is in my opinion, a very reliable car. I have mine for 3 years before trading it in for a 2004 cobra. And till this day, I still miss my 98. It was a berry reliable automobile, and easy to work on when maintenance is needed. I would recommend the 98 model to anyone.

Loved my Mustang!

I owned an V6 automatic coupe version of this car and had an overall great experience with it! It was the first car that I could actually call my own since my parents bought it just for me (no more sharing cars!) when I went to college and I had it for almost 2 years. It only had about 83K when I got it and was still going strong at 102K when I sold it. The only maintenance it needed was an oil change every 3,000 miles.

Great car...had mine for 6 years, bought it when it had a little over 100k needless to say i added another 150 k on it. Engine is extremely reliable as long as you maintain regular oil changes. Only bad side of this car is weather!!! be very careful in the rain and snow, do not drive over 30 miles an hour in the rain and park it when it snows.

Project Car.

I purchased a 1998 GT as a project car to keep and tinker with. Needless to say this will be a good challenge for me. There a few things to repair and customize. Above all the engine is rumbling like a champ. LOVE! the engine and exhaust sound. Black and tan interior match very well and replacement parts are fair in price. I plan on doing some upgrades to the engines. Even as a used car, a GT 4.6L has a lot of power and will give incredible speeds. Parents beware, you should not buy your teenager such a powerful car. Buy they aa base mustang V6/V4.

I bought my GT with 95k, it currently has 160k and the engine is running strong. Not been as reliable as many here claim. I only see the recall intake manifold mentioned once! That was a pain in the butt to replace. It hasn't been all that bad, just little annoying stuff going wrong here and there, for example.....x4 O2 sensors, all 4 calipers and rotors replaced, new intake manifold(coolant leak), door hinge, cruise control went out, lower control arms, ball joints, and recently the steering column. Like i said not all that bad, but people on here are praising it as being soooo reliable, it is a 3 at best as far as build quality reliablitly people!

I drove by an dealership & saw this black mustang that caught my eye. I asked to see it, the guys started it and i fell in love! The rumble beats a Harley & I can drive a car! lol This was my 15 yr daughter's dream car and I had no idea until I heard that rumble there is no sweeter sound. She is fast and furious and is a great car. I had male friends want to race etc at my age lol so i got chrome that says "size matters" and put it under the GT 4.6LT on the side it looks like it was made that way and in the back window reads in vinyl "STEP ASIDE BOYS" This has been fun! Like no other car I have had! worried about the snow, heard they are bad in snow! This is a must have car! It's awesome!

Bright red, lowered, custom exhaust, headlights, rims, was the best car I ever bought. I even had 4 trophies won from 4 differnt car shows I took her to. Then March of this year 2010, some moron pulled out in front of me. The radiator met the motor and my custom cold air intake splintered under the hood. I wasnt injured! They are built as tough as the look. I miss her everyday, buy one! You will never look back! :)

I bought my mustang a year ago as my first car. I gave it a cold air intake as well as the Flowmasters exhaust to give a fine tuned sound. And it sounds great. But this 150 hp car one day fell apart on me. The odometer stopped, it began leaking. Well Everything, it began overheating and timing was off and on top of that later a super duty 4x4 dodge managed to drive up the back of my car at a stop light. Being I fixed only the damages and heating problem this car chugs along showing no weaknesses in this southern Arizona desert heat. If I were to describe this model I would tell you this is a real trooper.

I'm 63 yrs young and I've had a lot of different cars in my life. My last car got totaled so I went looking for a muscle car. I'm tired of 4s and 6s. I loked around for about 2 months. I found my perfect car, a 1998 mustang gt convertible. I've had it for about 9 months, and had a blast in it. It had 120,000 miles on it, and I haven't had a bit of trouble with it. All my old friends ask me about gas mileage, I tell them I could care less. I give them a ride in it with the top down and they want to buy one. Of course they have to glue their tupee's on a little better. I have trouble judging distances on parking so this is a great fit for me. I will have no other car than a mustang!!

I have a 1998 Mustang w/ the 3.8 V6. I got it in September 2006 so it's been 3 years now. It's a pretty good car. I got it from a family member with only 46,000 miles on it in 2006. Now it has 88,000. I've had to replace the tires, and the brakes, windshield, along with the rear differential fluid twice. Other than those things the car has been virtually maintenance free. It's by no means a comfortable car. You feel every bump in the road. The seats are uncomfortable for long drives and it doesn't handle that great. I average about 22 miles per gallon mixed use. I'm not really a sports car kinda person... I think I'll go with something with four doors and better fuel economy...

I bought a 98 Mustang v6 in Feb 09. I knew NOTHING about the specifics of Mustangs, I just wanted one. First night out, I went at it with a Aurora. He ate me alive. I thought I had a fast car!?! Then, it was brought to my attention, that I should've gotten a 5.0. I knew that, but I didn't think it made a difference. I have upgraded (its a 97) to a GT and its a world of difference. Handling, Sound, Speed, and Confidence is on another level. I LOVE my GT. I LOVE it. I bought it with 82k on the dash and in ONE month I have put on 3k. This is the car to have, especially in a big city like Chicago.

im currently 16 years old. i have wanted a mustang since i was 8 years old. i never even considered anything else. and im glad i didnt.. i originally was looking at a 2006 black mustang V6 with an automatic transmission and leather seats but i ended up buying almost the exact opposite. i have a white 1998 mustang with a V8, a manual tranny, and cloth seats and i still love it. this car is everything a teenage boy probably shouldnt have. but i honestly believe that u can get yourself just as dead in a V6 as u can in a V8. this car is what i always dreamt of. i love the smooth shifts, the mach audio, and how i can spin tires by barely giving it any gas at all. this car has the power!

I have owned a few Mustangs over the years, but the 96-98's are my favorite. This is my first GT and I love the 4.6 liter powerhouse. It has a nice rumbling exhaust and is very quick! This Mustang GT gets 24 in town and close to 30 mpg on the hwy... not sure why edmunds only says 15 cty and 24hwy... any way the car handles great accelerates quickly and is just fun, fun, fun!!!

I can pretty say this is the best vehicle I have owned thus far. I've killed potholes, ran into snowbanks, and this car just won't bend, except for a little exterior damage. Cruise control just went out last week, but for 200k miles, it's about time something did. So far, that is the only thing other than routine stuff that I've had to replace. Stock sound is awesome, road noise is quiet until about 60, suspension is not quite as stiff as many say, and the backseat is just perfect for the poodle. Overall, fantastic racing vehicle, not so great for family time or winter four-wheeling.

I really miss my car. Someone just hit and ran me in a head on collision. It looked like a small fender bender but after the mechanic looked at it they said the bar the transmission is attached to really bent. Making this car totaled. I am so sad. I loved it. Bought it new and drove it for 10 years. Would have lasted forever had this not happened. And it was beautiful. I like it much better than the newer models. Sad, sad, day for me.

I have a 1998 automatic v6 Mustang. I just love it. It has 218,000 miles and still running great. The only thing that I've had a problem with is the alternator and I only replaced it once. That's the only trouble I've had with it in the 4 years I've had it and I think that's pretty darn good. It handles great, has good power, and good gas mileage. I've been car shopping and I just can't find anything that I like better. Not even the newer Mustangs. I think they perfected the Mustang in '98. It has good power and good gas mileage.I think I'm just going to have to find another '98 Mustang when mine finally gives up the ghost which I'm hoping is a long time from now.

I bought my GT a year ago with 160,000 miles on it. I was warned not to get a car with that many miles on it, but i proved them wrong. The filler neck grommet leaked If you buy a 4.6 be careful if it has a plastic intake manifold. They tend to crack where the coolant goes through it by the coolant sensor, but that wasnt even hard to replace. The cupholder are horrible and the interior does seem to squeak . Also my window motor went. It does not handle like a European car but it goes like hell in a straight line. But I have 186,000 with relatively few problems. Very reliable.

I just got a 98 5spd V6, and its been a decent car. The fact that it has 215ft/lbs of torque, and an open differential makes driving in the rain less than pleasurable. Handling is subpar as well for a sports car. I have autocrossed it, and while the torque makes up for the lack of horsepower, the handling drags your times down significantly. With some upgrades, it could be a stellar car, but why upgrade it when I can get a better handling and faster car such as the Miata or 300ZX for the same price. All in all, its a decent car that will take a beating, but don't expect it to be a true spors car. This isn't a true sports car, but if you want a sporty cruiser, then this will satisfy you

Had a GT 20 years ago, was fun to drive then, even more fun now. Convertibles are a blast, like riding a motorcycle but more comfortable, the V-8 power is awesome, can easily spin the tires. Seats and position are comfortable, back seat is fine for kids only. Handles quick, a little light in the rear though. The tops wear out and run $400-$800. Real fun to drive, turns heads. Plenty of power.

My 1998 Ford Mustang is by far the best car I have ever owned. It gets about 24-25 mpg in the city, and about 30 mpg on the highway. The styling on Mustangs are unbeatable, both the interior and the exterior. The performance is pretty good coming from the 3.8 Liter V6 but its not like the GT or the Cobra. The reliability of the Mustang is great; its never stranded me anywhere, even when its down near 0 degrees in the winter it just starts right up. Overall I would give this car a 10 out of 10 -- it's a wonderful car and I have never once regretted buying it. I would strongly recommend this car to anyone.

I have had no problems mechanically with my car. That means a lot to me. I am constantly annoyed by the fact that when you have a cup in the front cupholder, you can't shift. Also the cupholders aren't adjustable, so if you go round a curve, and the cup isn't a perfect fit... oops, there goes another drink. It might be petty to complain about that, but it has been a huge pet peeve to me. The driver's seat is starting to lose integrity. The foam gets smushed after so many years and I get it just doesn't come back to normal after a while. I can't believe that it has been so reliable. Ford did good on this model. Also, they made a lot of stuff standard, I just wish I had cruise.

I bought the laser red GT Convertible new in 1998 for my wife's 49th birthday Its just had its 30K dealer service and only 3 minor items showed up. The rear brake pads and the original battery are nearing replacement, and there is slight oil seepage at the steering rack (not enough to even spot my garage floor though). Other than replacing the original tires at 22K miles and normal maintenance, I have spent $0 on repairs. It's been trouble free and burns no oil between 3K mile changes. It has all factory options except the engine block heater and they all still work fine too. I gave the interior a 7 only because legroom is a bit cramped for tall drivers and the seat belt frays.

Coming from a Mustang Family (2 1970 Fastbacks/ 1 1989 Hatchback), when I was purchasing my first car I had to go with the Mustang! I love the looks and it still has speed, even though the smaller engine. I would recommend this car to most. The only problem is that at 6 feet tall, my knees are at the dash when I drive. I lower the seat, but I can't see over the front of the hood. The older Mustangs had more leg room...maybe Ford needs to work on that. However, it's a great car!

I bought this 98 GT used with 10k miles, and it has been a wonderful experience to own it. I originally had purchased the V6 but traded up to the V8 for the power. If you're going own a Mustang, you gotta go for the GT. Aside from all the stereotypical BS that some close-minded people say about Fords, I gotta say that this car has been ultra-reliable (knock on wood) and an awesome ride. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a fun, reliable, powerful vehicle that gives you freedom, independence, and joy.

Great car that I've had since new. I've never had any problems with anything. Regular fluid changes, filters, and lube and she's ready to go. Was a daily driver for the first 4 years, now a garage queen that only comes out when the weather is nice. Fun car to drive.

Great ride!

Love the look of this year, before it became more angular. If you're going to buy a Mustang, why would you get anything less than the GT - V8 engine. This car has great power and is a blast to drive. One of the best convertibles in this price range.

This has been the best vehicle I have ever purchased. It is very reliable, I have pretty much followed the manufacturers recomendation on oil changes and basic maintenance. Aside from new brakes once and recently new shocks/struts, this care has cost me very little in upkeep. It still runs great too and will get a tune up at 100,000 (next month)

At least the car look good. My wife bought this car before we were married and as soon as she could she pawned it off on me. It doesn't handle well. My road to work is twisty and I had always enjoyed seeing what my car can do on it. The mustang handles like a brick. On the inside, the seats are not very good on the lower back and the seatbelts tend to turn in such a way that when you close the door the buckle jams the door and cuts into the paneling. All in all I have not enjoyed this car.

I bought my Mustang 5 years ago brand new. I have never regretted it. The car is fun to drive and completely reliable. I have kept it very well maintained and had the usual maintenance. The interior cloth seats are a great fabric that has a texture to it, making it difficult to see any wear or stains. The fuel efficiency is above average and being that it is a 5-speed I have plenty of get up and go. All instruments are easily found and self-explanatory. This is a great car! I have loved putting every mile on her!

Just give me a reason to drive it!

This was one of the last Mustangs of its style when I bought it. I have had it now for just over four years and have had no problems, even after all of the mods that I completed. You know the mods that every Mustang loves (gears, shifter, exhaust, sub-frame connectors, throttle body, mass air meter, rear anti-sway bar,and a Vortech Supercharger. We can not forget the supercharger cause mustangs just love them. Plus many more additions that I have blessed the car with. All I have to say is that even after all that, the car can still be driven like a normal car with no problems and on a regular maintance schedule.

After buying this car, I joined a Mustang Club and proceeded to make modification upon advice of other members. My car stays garaged more of the time than not, due to Car Show reasons... Seldom driven in the rain. Modified Exhasut System, FlowMasters, Bassanni X-Pipe, 3.5 inch tips. Underdrive Pulleys, K&N Airfilter, Diablo SuperChip, 9MM SVO Racing Wires, Racing SplitFire Spark Plugs, Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter etc.... Love My Stang!!!

As a previous owner of Mustangs and Camaros I am used to the "crudeness" of this type of car and enjoy it. Simple plan, stuff a V-8 and a manual transmission in a small car and - poof - you have a fun ride! I have had this thing for over a year now with no problems (except trying to find excuses to drive somewhere!).

I bought this car after I turned 50 and I wanted to be cool, well I am cool but also very frightened of the fast driving everyone else does here in Florida. I travel over 30 miles one way to work and I would keep this car if the gas milege were better. I love to put the top down and just enjoy this great Florida weather.

I bought this car with 14,000 miles and it has been perfect to 62,000. Amazing handling with power. It sits much nicer than the GM cars, and is more economical as well. I can get 29 mpg on straight highway driving. Town is not nearly as good (around 18). Sweet car, looks great, and insurance is not that bad - just get married and turn 25! However I have the automatic and would suggest a manual!

When I purchased my mustang in 1997 I was told by many people that I would not be happy owning a Ford. Of course they said 'found on roadside dead' etc. I loved the way the car drove and I six years later still love it. So far the only things I have had to do in six years is change the oil, the tires and the battery. NOTHING has broken, the radio, A/C and top all still work fine as well. Yes, there is some leaking now. Also surpising is my gas milage. Its a 6cyl manual so it should get good milage. It gets GREAT milage. 32 highway 25 city. I could not be happier.

Where do I begin? I just had to get rid of my Mustang because I needed more room being a musician and student, and I really didn't want my car to get in the middle of some war path of dents, scratches, and high mileage. (I drive a 2000 Ford Explorer Sport now.) Although this car was a 6 cyl automatic, it was still a Mustang, and it was so much fun to drive. The body style was awesome, and sure it turned heads...I was very "neurotic" about this vehicle; it was my pride and joy. I would highly recommend this car to any "car obsessed" person like myself who can't afford the high insurance on a GT. I will own another one VERY soon.

I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW AND AFTER I GOT 20000 MILES ON MY CAR, I HAD A HARD TIME KEEPING IT ON THE ROAD. I TOOK IT IN AND HAD FRONT IN ALIMENT ,AND I BOUGHT NEW TIRES. THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE. NOW I HAVE 60000 MILES ON IT AND THE CAR WAS OUT TO KILL ME. TOOK IT BACK AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE RIGHT AND LEFT LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE NEEDING TO BE REPLACE. ALSO FOUND I HAD A REAR MAIN SEAL TRANSMISSION LEAK. AND OIL LEAK TOO. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE AN IDLER PULLEY REPLASED. AFTER ALL HAVE BEEN DONE I STILL HAVE A LITTLE PROBLEM PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THANK GOD FOR EXTENED WARRANTIES YOU’RE GOING TO NEED IT.

Ive had no problems what so ever with my car, the 0 60 on this site says 9.9sec....well i can do mine in 7.9sec stock so guess a grandpa was driving this car when they tested it. It does well for a 6, i have the 5 speed and it does....cough....more than i thought it would, lightin' em up infront of some camaros and firebirds makes em think I got an 8. But well the 6 mustang can beat the 6 camaro and firebirds anyway. But I love the options for aftermarketing for the mustang line.

I like my Mustang but I am tired of losing stoplight races to rivals like Cobras and Z28s. I have K&N air intake and flowmaster exhaust and while they make the car sound good (oops I mean GREAT!) they still dont make the car fast enough to damage the ego of the jerk in the Camaro next to me.

. I got the v6 due to the cheaper insurance and was dissapointed with the stock exhaust system and overall performance and for around $15000 matched the hp of a gt. I got flowmaster dual exhaust,k&n air filter,Superchips computer chip, MAC underdrive pulleys, cold air induction, and a BBK throttle body and had around 216 hp and cheap insurance. The stock wheels look better than most other base model cars' but should be replaced with some 17" wheels(i reccomend Cobra R wheels).. The vast amount of body kits, wheels, superchargers, and other performance enhancers also make the Mustang a good choice.

I bought my 1998 GT in May of 2001 with only 21,000 miles. I have done alot of mods to my jet black pony and I love blowing the doors off the camaros and slow imports that race their lawn mower engines at me. The car is built excellent, and it can defintely take a beating. I havent had any problems with my car and i love the looks and the thumbs up that I get every time i drive it. I would definetely recommend a Mustang GT or Cobra (like my brother has) over a Camaro or ANY import.

After saving for 3 years for the car of my dreams I fell in love with a black beauty. The handling and styling was perfect, but then things started happening. I noticed after I had the car about 3 years, the paint started to peel off of the rocker pannels and now it is pealing off of the doors. I can not take it to a high pressure car wash, it leaks around the windows. When I told ford dealership about this they said oh it is a ford defect we know about it and have done nothing to fix the problem.

I've put 30k on my mustang in the year i've had it. Haven't had a a single problem yet. Very impressed. Even at fairly high speeds on the highway, it still gets pretty good mileage- I've made a 320 mile trek through the Idaho mountains in four hours flat (stopped 15 min. for lunch, too!) on under 3/4 tank(about $15 at$1.40/gal). Very predictable and forgiving in hard corners. With the 5-speed you can do some fairly impressive stuff, even with the six. Definately suggest oversized rims- i put 17's on mine and can out-corner with the supposedly more agile imports like integras&celicas. Overall- LOVE IT!!!
