This car was given to me by my mother who had gotten it from a friend of the family. She gave it to me for my birthday. I've had to do very little repairs to it. He has driven strong for me. I definitely drive my vehicle hard. They have to be able to keep up with me. Even though this car is a luxury cruise car, he is my Beastie. He drives so strong & sounds so smooth. He gets very good gas mileage. He gets about 17-18 miles in town & I'd say about 25-28 miles on the highway. This car has now got over 300,000 miles on him right now & still going strong. Purzzzz like a kitten drives like a Beast. Very reliable car. The one thing that I would say about the car is that there is too much play in the steering wheel. But that could've have been something to do with the previous owner.

Got me a Car and she's as big as a Whale!

Bought this to replace my totaled out PT Cruiser. What a difference! I had wanted one of these for about the last 12 years. I consider it the luxury version of the tried-and true Crown Vic cop car or taxi. Happened to drive by a light blue one a guy was just putting a For Sale sign on, it had been garaged its whole life, serviced by a local dealer, and had only 97K miles. The body, paint, and overall condition is excellent. Got it for around 3K. When I first got it, it needed the window washer sensor replaced, which I easily did myself, and the part was only $16. Also, it needed the steering idler arm and pitman arm replaced, which cost $280 at a mechanic. I also replaced the shocks, plug wires, and plugs, and changed oil and filter to Mobile 1 Extended Performance, just to get a fresh baseline. I also changed the fuel filter and air filter with K & N parts. It ran fine when I bought it, but runs even smoother now. This fall, I converted the exhaust to dual exhaust with an H-pipe and eliminated the resonators. Now, I can hear the engine and she has even more get-up-and-go. I have been getting around 19 mpg here in town, and about 23 on the highway if I keep it around 70 mph. I tried running at 55-60 and it was getting 25 mpg, but it is hard for me to drive that slow on the interstate, our speed limit is 80. It has plenty of power and holds speed on our Montana grades. It handled a brief spurt to 106 mph easily, and it did not govern out at that speed. Just put 4 new snow tires on it (Dec '16) and it gets around fine on ice and snow with the factory posi-traction rear end. My boys love the room in the back seat, their own reading lights, and even the ash trays! This car rides smoother, has much more interior room, and quicker acceleration than the PT cruiser, and gets close to the same gas mileage, with 8 cylinders instead of 4! Discovered when driving it last night that it even has little "headlights" that light up the road to the sides of your car when you put the blinkers on! Yes, I have received friendly comments that it looks like an elderly person's car, that is fine with me, I am 53 and may still be driving this when I am 83! This is a well-made American Classic, with good performance, modern electronics, efficiency, and STYLE. This car was about $38,000 new, and I feel like I can enjoy it for at least another 100K miles, riding in comfort, safety and style at a small fraction of the new cost. If this is what you are looking for and can find one that has been well cared for, then I say go for it. Replacement parts are readily available and affordable.

Love This Beast!!!!

I bought this car for $2100 eight months ago. It had 219,000 miles on it when I bought it. I currently have 230,000 miles on it and I haven't had ONE problem with this vehicle. I love the fact that this car is huge, as it fits my family of 4 perfectly. The trunk is gigantic. I have a picture of my 21 year old sister and my two daughters sitting comfortably in my trunk tail-gating. Lol. This car handles phenomenally, and drives so smooth. I have owned brand new vehicles before, and none have compared to my Towncar. It will be a sad day for me when I have to get rid of it.

I've owned this car for 4 years, I bought it with 121k miles and now it has 165k. It has been the most reliable car I could ask for, I got rear ended and it got totaled but since the damage was almost un-noticeable I did the buy back and I still drive it. I buy crap cars to try and keep wear off of the car. Where all my other cars have failed this has been there to catch me and hold me as my only car as well as backup. I hardly ever have to maintain it, I had to change a ball joint once and just change the oil. One of the best cars ever made.

Wanted one for a while. Finally got it.

My first car was a '84 Grand Marquis and it made me love big cars but knew the town car was the top dog in luxury cars so I wanted a Town car. Finally bought this '97 a couple weeks ago and I love it! I'm 22 and everybody makes fun of me but I love it. So comfortable, plenty of power, and gets over 23mpg. It has tons of awesome features my '04 mustang don't even have. I stopped at a store yesterday and when I came out the car was smoking. Apparently the intake manifold malfunctioned and anti-freeze was everywhere. Seeing it's a common problem I'm not too upset. I just hope it don't cost too much to fix so I can get it back on the road and enjoy it some more.

I have had the car for about a month, it has been really great. It got sugared and it is still running great. I couldn't ask for a better car. Everybody loves riding in my town car. It has so much room in it, and of course everybody calls it a granny car, but its not. Its a beast of a car and I love it, people know when to move when a town car comes their way. Because they know we be rolling. Lol.

I was fortunate when I was able to purchase my Lincoln. It is so luxurious and comfortable. This is one vehicle that is still noticed fr it's looks and size. A compact car, its not. These cars have such lasting appeal and still look beautiful over 12 years after the design was changed. My husband has a spinal cord injury, and this car is perfect for him. It is so much more comfortable to ride in than newer compact/mid-size cars (which I found to hurt my back after a 700 mile road trip in a rental car). I am forever Lincoln Town Car fan. I am definately spoiled to the various buttons on the steering wheel, which helps when driving, so that I don't have to take my eyes off the road.

Just brought home my "new too me" 97. Previously owned a 91 and two 85 Crown Vic's. I'm 42 and have owned nearly 40 cars in my life, without question the 91 to 97 Town Cars will go down as legends. They strike the perfect balance of ride, fuel milage, comfort, dependability, performnce and just about every other catagory I can think of. The only short coming is driving in snow, but thats only because of RWD, but really, if you have half a brain, you'll be fine. If you don't get 22-24 MPG and 250,000 miles out of one of these, you aren't trying. And trust me, once you drive one, you will want to put 250,000 on it. All other cars will fall short, way short. If you are looking to buy one, DO IT

great driving, but...

I bought the car used, fantastic ride. I put in an aftermarket stereo system and used the JBL speakers that were stock. I really enjoy this car. The intake manifold may crack as mine did and will cost at least $250 to replace if you DIY. FORD knows about this problem and made a better replacement. (engineering brain cramp) The dealership wanted $1100+ for the fix - wow Other than a few minor problems, it's a keeper. '97 is the last of the long land yaght body style but I think it is still more appealing than the newer models. The 97 also has a better front end (lights/grill) than older models. Mine is equipped with the digital dash - Nice!

It has been a long time since I've driven a car I really enjoy, but Princess was a true bargain for me at just 1,500. I'll never go back to a small car again. Economy vs luxury, sorry but I've paid my dues and this car is my pay off. The body design can't be beat and once on the highway, I average 28 miles per gallon.

I bought this 97 TC 6-years old with 36,000 miles. The previous owner had not taken care of it. With some minor brake-work and a tune-up, this car was literally as good as new. Over 5 years later, I still drive it and am in awe over how reliable this car is. I had a transmission cooler installed 2 years ago and have been towing a pop-up camper with it for the past 2 years, no problems at all. This car goes and goes and goes. I have considered trading it in for an explorer or other SUV, but considering how reliable this car is and it's low resale, I would be foolish. I get 25MPG on the highway doing 70. Can any other V8 do the same? This may be the last great Ford on the road.

Bought this car with 47,000 miles on it about 5 or so years ago. Replaced tires and shocks with Biltstine shocks and drove it to death in my business. This car owes me nothing and only recently had to replace all four ball joints and brakes and a switch in the transmission. The last set of tires took me 70,000 miles. This is probably the best car purchase I have ever made and I'm 67 years old.

We have enjoyed this car and found it very dependable. It is comfortable to ride in and gets 21 to 22 miles per gallon with highway driving. The only work ever done on this vehicle is to repair right front fender and headlight after hitting a deer. It is kept in a garage. It has always been serviced on time. Tire wear excellent with 60,000 miles on original and 55,000 miles on second set of tires.

1997 Executive Lincoln Town Car This vehicle is an 11 on a 10 scale. The most comfortable ride, on the dash is a 3 steering setting so it can feel like any vehicle you want {not wheel steering adjustments up down etc...}. Great 23 mpg. The backseat looks like a couch. The trunk could hold 8 people. I bought it with 45,000 miles on it and now have over 100,000. Had to replace the intake cause I like to put my foot in it. Super fast, super comfort, what more could you want. And best of all it looks like a lincoln. Mine looks just like the photo above....GORGEOUS.

I purchased my Signature Series Town Car in August 2005. I love the dark blue leather interior w/ heated seats. Let me say that I can't believe the options and silky smooth ride. Mine even had a full carriage top. Mileage was 93K, but considering it's a 1997, not bad. I'm a man in my mid 30s, and have already been teased about buying a grandpa car. But, I am the one whose laughing because this TC will outlast their new $30K+ cars or SUVs and mine is already 8 years old! This car will easily go 200-300K. I've taken it on trips with my wife and two kids and it makes traveling a breeze. People get out of passing lane real fast when they see this beast in their rearview mirror!

Bought this Town Car recently for a little under seven grand and can't believe what a fine car it is. Had only 61,000 miles on it, was a one owner, and been carefully maintained. Gets great gas mileage, has tons of room and the ride is fantastic. Paid property taxes on it of only $117 annually. Gas mileage on the interstate is in the 23-24 range. Can't imagine a better overall value. Much better vehicle than the more bubble-shaped newer Town Cars. All my friends thought I was nuts when I bought it, but once they rode in it they were green with envy.

Bought our first Town Car (low mileage '91) in '97. We loved it, however, we did do major repairs on it the fourth and fifth year we owned it. I have been wanting one more of the 'Classic' style pre '98 versions and recently found another low milage (58K) at the same dealership we bought the '91. I have never bought an eight year old car that looks and feels as "new" as this does. It is a dream to drive and in perfect condition! There is just no comparision when it comes to ride and quiet -- the smoothest ride going and this one gets over 27 mpg on the road. I feel we will enjoy this Lincoln for a long time and it was very reasonable to purchase.

I have now owned three Lincoln Towncars. I have had virtually no major issues with any of them. If you keep the oil changed and the transmission serviced regualarly they'll run forever. My dad has a fleet of these cars for his sales people. They all have over 300,000 on the clock and still run strong. I'll never buy any other car. You can't beat the comfort and reliability....or price.

Best car I have ever had, and I have had quite a few. We drive to Florida every year with it, on Rt. 95 it is a comfortable machine. It has plenty of zip and is easy to handle in traffic. All repairs to it have been minor. Sure, I wish the gas milage was better, but when everything is considered, it is a small price to pay. Recently, I drove a Camry (of which, I have owned three) about 200 miles. A few days later I drove my Lincoln over the same route. There was absolutely no comparison between the comfort and handling of the two cars. I wish Lincoln had continued this classic look, but realize that is not possible.

This is our first Lincoln, I have had Cadillacs and a Grand Marquis. I would like to say that I believe we've reached the top , even though it is a used vehichle this car beats our gr. marquis (and it was new). However, the gr. marquis did save me from harm in a serious accident, I was rear-ended and pushed into on-coming traffic and hit head-on. All I had were bruises. I hope that I never have to test this vehichle in that manner. although I have no doubt that I will be completely safe. Thank you for my wonderful car. Mrs. Sheryl Lewis

I now have 103,000 miles on my Town Car and it is still like new. I have had no problems to date and all mechanicals are still factory original. I purchased this car to replace a 1989 Cartier Town Car that was totaled in an accident (it had 200,000 miles and was still factory fresh). The 1999-2002 Town Cars are just to ugly. I will always continue to buy Lincolns. They are inexpensive to keep. Could use more horsepower. I remember the 60's Lincolns with the 460 engine. Those Lincolns could move.

We have had this car in our stable since new. We had a couple of engine sensors replaced. This is a car you can drive 750 miles in a day and not feel rung out. What other car can you put 4 200lb plus guys in drive 75-80mph and get 21 mpg. I just made a 600 mile round trip and averaged 70 mpg and got 23.7 mpg. Why would anyone drive a cracker box car for fuel economy when you can buy a CLEAN Town Car for not much more money have all the confort of your favorite easy chair and get over 20 MPG with 1-6 people and couple of pile of gear in the trunk. No wonder the MOB loves them they can put 2 bodies in the trunk 3 or 4 if they are small.

Bought this car used in April of 1999. It had 15900 miles on odometer. Only thing that went bad was anti-thief alarm. Just routine maintance. It is the best car I have ever owned. Great on the road and considering the size gas mileage isn't that bad either. I plan to drive this car for a long time.

Besides the intake manifold breaking and costing around $300 to replace, this car is extremely reliable and never gives me any problems. Dispite approaching 200,000 miles, the car still starts, idles and races like a new car. Just the other day i took out a hooked up RX-7. The BEST this i ever did for this car was put a set of Michelin LTX (light truck) tires, simillar to (Navigator tires) along with a set of 2002 Lincoln Town Car Brakes system (larger brake discs). The car feels as though it has traction control. Nearly impossible to make it slide, even in the rain. It has much less sway, way more traction, and a very smooth ride.

I am very please with this car. It handles very well and is quiet. I have over 90,000 miles on it and it still is like new. My gas mileage is around 21 mpg. I would recommend this car to anyone.

This has been a very good car & I am still driving it. It has 85,000 miles on it with some hail damage over 3/4 of the vehicle. It is still a very comfortable car & I only need the value of it for tax purposes. My experience with this car has been good.

I have maintained this auto beyond specs suggested by Lincoln. However, at 89,000 miles the plastic intake manifold melted causing the car to overheat and needing to replace the engine. Upon further investigation found out this is a common problem. P.S.Lincoln denies any responsibility.

I agree with your overall review of the vehicle. I enjoy driving and riding in my town car. It insulates you from the outside world in comfort and luxary. I mainly drive on the highway and its rough keeping it under 70mph. I'm getting 17mpg combined highway/town milage. I guess I'm most impressed with the dealer service. No questions asked, its just fixed. Now I know what the Lincoln experience means.

My 1997 Lincoln Towncar has always been and still is the most comfortable car I have ever had the pleasure of driving. It is a quiet and smooth today as it was when new and it has been totally trouble-free. No major repairs have been necessary in the almost 5 years I've owned it. I drive faster than I should because it hardly seems that I am moving with such a smooth ride. I can't believe a car has been so reliable for comfortable for so long.

Aloha: We love our towncar as do our two small dogs who sit between us upfront. Plenty of room and love the inside door storages. Beautiful ride, plenty of power for going over the mountain since we live on the windward side of Oahu and must go over the mountain to get to Honolulu. Twice I have had hotel doormen go to open the back door thinking I was entering my limo or something. The husband and I got lots of laughs from this. It is a beautiful comfortable car.
