I bought this Vett May 2014 from a private party for a decent price. I knew nothing about this car but had to have it when I saw it. I previously owned an 04 coupe but sold it and wished I hadn't . Even though the car is a step down from my 04 I was really surprised at the performance . It has great pick up and is a solid car that I feel safe in. It took a while getting used to getting into, but there is a certain way to get into them. It is Polo Green Metallic and I have to say the color has grown on me, and is rich looking .The color changes in different light and at times can look black in low light. It is a smooth ride, and shifting is easy . It is an Lt4 and when you step on it , it goes! a previous owner put Magna flow exhaust on which sounds beefy without being too much. The seats are leather and still in good condition at 111,200 miles. It still looks stylish, and I have gotten many compliments on it. I have replaced tires, several leaks in the transmission, and other leaks. I have to remind myself it is an old car and those things wear out . If you get a chance to buy one you should, I have never regretted buying it and I don't see myself selling it.

I have had many vettes through the years. C4s are my favorite. I like the body shape, and my 96 , nineteen yrs old, and never had a problem I did have to change the battery a few times, but thats it.
Love the car.

I bought this Corvette in 2004. It only had 38,000 miles on it at the time. I drive it about 4,000 miles a year. Honestly, it's a very pretty car... I have people tell me all the time how beautiful it is. But... I don't think it's a very reliable vehicle. I've had the water pump replaced, transmission had a leak that got fixed. Now, I noticed that my oil pan gasket is leaking. Really, I don't think the vehicle is reliable. You would think that because it's a "Corvette", it was built good. I don't think it was.

Over the years I've owned a 72 Corvette Convertible, and a 88 Corvette coupe. I purchases my 96 in June of 2009 with 31000 miles on it. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was coming home with me. I'm 65 years old and this car makes me feel like I'm 25. I'm flexible enough to get in and out with no trouble at all. Looks, power, handling, and most of all, pretty good on gas. I love it. If you're a senior citizen, and want a daily thrill (if you know what I mean), get one and fly into the sunset.

My '96 Collectors Edition is my daily driver! Live in Colorado and drive rain, snow or shine. I purchased with 108,000 miles and have been pleasantly surprised at how reliable the car is. Performance is great and still gets attention with over 135,000 miles on it. Drove down town last year to view a car show. When leaving a man and his young son walked by as I was getting ready to pull out. Much to my surprise they stopped and admired my car for 2 or 3 minutes stating "nice car we did't get to see Corvette today!". I think that statement speaks for itself. Still amazes me that a 10 year old Vette can have so much performance, quality and reliability for what you pay!

The last and the best of the C4. The 1996 LT4 engine is a real sleeper and conservatively rated at 330hp. If you can find a fine condition LT4, Buy It!, as this engine option particularly in Collector Edition badging should maintain its value over the coming years.

I've only had the Vette for half a year and it was a one owner, garage- kept sports car. I love it beyond words. The paint job alone is better than any vehicle I have ever owned and all but two of my almost 20 car purchases were new cars. This is the last and best of the C4 style and could become a classic. No Chevy recall on this year or the 1995, only ones so far (to my knowledge).

I love the LT-4 higher revving engine (6400 rpm redline) coupled with the 6- spd manual transmission. This car rates a 10 on the fun meter to drive. Gas mileage is great as long as you keep your right foot out of it around town. Love the performance, brakes, ice cold a/c, Bose stereo and above all reliability. Great car!

I have always wanted a Corvette. I finally got one even tho it's used it is in pristine condition. I have had to put a new water pump and replace the airflow guard underneath and the antenna won't retract all the way but I still love the car. Great handling and great power.

I've bought this Vette new in 1996, and drive it about 6000 exciting miles per year. It is bullet proof sound. I never worry about it leaving me. Other than oil changes, the ONLY maint. on it was 1 set of brake pads, 2 sets of tires, 1 water pump, and 2 batteries. This is a VERY reliable car that can be driven hard if you want to.

After 30 years of waiting and being practical, I finaly purchased my Corvette. I wish a hadn't waited so long! I've always loved the styling of the C-4, paticularly with the updates they made in the early 90's. The LT-4 engine and 6 speed transmission make this car a ball to drive. The power is instantaneous and the torque makes the car easy to drive, even at low rpm's. While the car is ten years old, it only had 3,000 miles when I bought it last month. It's not often you come across a brand new 1996 Corvette convertible, so. It doesn't get any better than cruising with the top down on a warm summer night!

This is a very fun car. The performance is great, the suspension is nice, and the brakes are adequate. What I like most about it, is the cockpit feeling of the interior, and the C4 body styling.

We are in our early 30s with two
children and have been playing with the
idea to do sth not quite sensible about
a car for quite a while. Next to an
Outback and an Odyssey we wanted a fun
to drive weekend car and test drove
Boxsters, SLs and M3s. The Corvette is
quite different in many aspects, it
doesn't feel as expensive and not as
luxurious as the others but it has some
sort of spirit others can't deliver.
The performance - even the LT1 - will
blow you away. If you want a fun to
drive two-seater and don't want to
spend all $ of your equity line, get a
C4 Corvette. The targa top is a nice
alternative, to save serious $ on your
insurance.

Once you take her out and go for a ride
you will be sold. I have spent my
entire adult driving experience (32
years) behind some type of sports car,
Triumph, MG, Porsche, BMW, but none of
them have the raw testosterone pumping
power of a Corvette! The sprit of this
machine will enter your bloodstream and
course through your veins until you are
forced to go out, open the door, fire
her up, melt into the seat and connect
with the essence of freedom that she
brings you. This car is an extension of
the adult male image. Its just too
much of a good time! Be careful though,
if youre not ready to buy one, dont
go for a test drive, she will make you
crazy.

Bought this car in February of 1997.
It was my every day driver for four
years. I would describe the driving
experience as unique. You feel like
you're in a cockpit of a jet when you
first get in. The relative heavy
weight and heavy steering due to wide
tires can make driving a chore
sometimes. However these traits also
make the car feel very stable on
smooth roads. Bumpy roads do unsettle
the front end and the interior
squeeks. Consider this if it's going
to be a daily driver. Removing the top
does cause "shimmying" over uneven
roads. The motor is smooth, though it
will frighten many female drivers
especially in first and second gears.

I've had this car about 2 months now.
It had 20,000 miles on it purchased
when I got it.
Great car to drive. It attracts a lot
of attention. I'm in my 50's, and
teenagers want to race frequently in
thier Camaros or Trans Ams.
It is fast, gets great gas mileage, and
a very good looking car. It has the
Grand Sport engine, the Grand Sport
wheels, and the Z-51 performance
suspension. It has a 6-speed manual
transmission. That is the only way an
LT4 engine was sold.
I am very pleased, and now, can't
imagine being without a Corvette. It's
about time after 38 years of driving!

Very happy with my 96 coupe. I do know
what everyone is talking about when the
top comes off-- lots of shimming. I
actually pulled over the first time
because I thought something was wrong
with the car. Most of all I think the
car is awsome with its power and
looks. I would recommend this car for
anyone except for young adults because
they would get in trouble. If you do
buy this car own another car because
you will not want to drive this car in
the rain or snow or park near anyone
that may hurt it. This car will surely
be a classic.

After owning a virtually problem free
1992 5.0 mustang for 8.5 yrs,
I "settled" for my automatic vette. The
automatic effectively removes the "fun
factor" from this car. Very benign,
boaring handling at best. I drove a
manual but didn't buy it.
Vibration through the steering wheel
and dash shimmy are due to low
structural integrity. Have the conv. X
frame braces installed.
In 18 mos, I have replaced water pump,
Intake manifold gasket, starter, and
climate control unit under warranty.
Young chev. and Steakley Chev. service
suck. Corvettes of Dallas in Carrolton,
TX does quality work.
Bottom Line: Awsome with the 6-speed.

This is our 2nd corvette, last one was
a 90 coupe. This 96 has the same body
style. With top off, excessive shimmy
that shows up in steering wheel, no
matter what speed the car is going.
Have set tire pressure acording to mfg.
specs. 30 to 35 psi range. Had the
front tires balanced at 80 mph.
Still have the shimmy in steering wheel.
I've found no lose parts in front end
or any damage, with car having only
27,100 miles at time of purchase.
With top on there is no shimmy. Called
local Chevy dealer who has a service
rep. that knows corvette's, I suppose,
he said it is normal? The 90 coupe that
we had before, was fine with the top
off! Can anybody help?
