Most difficult and nasty - Beware of South Beach Classics

Customer Service: 1.0 Quality Of Work: 1.0 Friendliness: 1.0 Overall Experience: 1.0

I purchased a car from a salesman (manager) who has his desk in front a big office. Ted Vernon Specialty Automotives dba South Beach Classics charged my credit card for both the deposit and also took a deposit for restoration of the car. I gave a check to manager for the balance. The check was cashed, and I was sent a copy of the endorsed title and a bill of sale. After 2 months and lots of calls, no work had been done on the car. The manager left. I called Robin Ciel Vernon to discuss getting my car, and she responded with nastiness and diatribes about her salesman! She then told me that she wouldn't release the car until her employee paid her the money that she claimed he owed her. At this point, I have filed a police report and am trying to get my car back. If there is a nastier or more unprofessional person on this planet than Robin Vernon, I haven't met her. I would tell anyone and everyone that I would stay away from this business.

Very Reliable. Bought it with 105k miles 6 months ago. Now has 120,000 miles and the only replacements I've made is the radiator, motor mounts, and drive shaft yolk. I drive this vehicle hard. Only typical problem I have that any older vehicle has is that in extreme hot weather idling and geared down it tends to run a little hot. the longest I've drove it straight is 5 hours on 1 tank of gas.

I bought my 1995 Jeep Wrangler Rio Grande Edition back in 1995 on time for the 1996 Blizzard. Until today, I still own the same Jeep and with 325,000 miles on it, it was definitely reliable. Original parts since day except for the shocks and brakes. I cant tell you how much fun this Jeep is.

This is our 8th Jeep and my second 1995 Wrangler. I bought my first 1995 Wrangler S in 1997 and drove it absolutely everywhere including out of state trips. I wanted another one and knew I wanted the same type....old school leaf springs and ruggedness that vanished after the 95 model year. Now I have a 95 Rio Grande model. Rides exactly like my first one......kidney pounding rough and exactly what a Jeep Wrangler is about. Has about 133,000 on the clock and gets about 19 mpg if I'm easy on it. This is my daily driver even in coldest of winter. The soft top and soft upper doors are no problem with that strong heater. Love this thing as much as I did my first one and I'd recommend to anyone!

Bought it new and put 180K miles on it. Had it for 10 years. Had one repair on it. Hairline crack on exhaust manifold. Replaced it with a header for $140.00 + $60.00 to install. That was the only repair other than brakes, battery & tires. This Jeep never let me down and very dependable.

I just bought a 95 wrangler rio grande edition 4x4 soft top. it has air conditioning, a warn winch and a new top. Only 41000 miles on it. it was babied - the last owner (I'm the 3rd) took good care of it as did the original owner. I had a 59 CJ and a 51 Willys Overland. I love this car. I bought it for myself for my 65th birthday and it's my daily driver for a 13 mile commute. This 4 cylinder is an upgrade of the flathead "hurricane" engine and has twice the horsepower. Cruise at 75 making 3200 RPM. What could be better. I'm keeping this baby!

I got to keep a jeep when I left the army after hitch#2. My wife had me trade it for a Cadillac when we had another child. I was miserable. I finally got another and will never let it go! my jeep will go ANYWHERE, especially after I mounted a snorkel. Such a blast to drive. Do not get one after 95 as they are not as durable. You don't even have to remove the engine to rebuild it! easy to tinker with like an old car! The most durable vehicle you will ever own!

Previously had a 2001, this one rides a little rougher, but the simplicity and better mileage make it much better in almost every other regard. And so inexpensive to purchase as well. I hope to keep driving it for a long time since you can't get a car like this anymore.

My 95 Rio Grande is my first car and I can't see myself ever driving anything but a Jeep. This Jeep has 171k miles and is still going strong. We had to replace the fuel pump around 168k and patch up a few rust spots, but this Jeep is well-loved. Great in the sun and snow too!

I bought my Wrangler brand new in 1994 (1995 model) I drove it for 13 years then gave it to my son when he turned 16. He put a lift kit on it and went off roading. He beat the crap out of it. I got it back beat. My Dad is rebuilding the engine for me. it was running on 3 of of the 4 cylinders and still running. Cannot kill it! I can't wait to get it back and drive it again.

My wife bought this as her first car brand new and we've never had a problem with it. We've only put slightly over 66K miles on it in that time and though it struggles to climb Teton Pass it's taken us everywhere we wanted to go. Can't beat the toughness and the economy it delivers. Totally enjoy driving this guy all around town as it turns on a dime, you can park it in the smallest of places and it's high enough off the ground you can see around most cars and trucks.

This was my dream car when I was 19. Now I'm 33 with a kid, but I still have it since its paid for and runs well. Have driven this from WI to the beaches in Oregon, Key West, New Orleans and out to Baltimore. I promised my nephew when he was two he could have the car when he turned 16. He's eight now, but has decided he would like a car that stays dry and is quiet. I would simply like cup holders, but that's why I unplug the drains and rinse out the car. I disliked the car while I went through a bad spell of mechanics, but I have Nick to fix it now. When my three year old is able he can fix my car for me!! I didn't think it was possible to have one car my whole life.

I am 17 and before my jeep I had a 1990 Ford Ranger that CONSTANTLY needed fixing, but wen it finally blew up i was rewarded with a jeep. This thing is so reliable, durable, and fun. It has over 170,000 miles on it, and had 160,000+ when we bought it. The previous owner worked at a boyscout camp and used this Jeep to navigate the incredibly rough roads every day. However this ol' Jeep remains tough, and great for offroading. It ain't a power house with the 4 cyl. so not great for highway, and is really bumpy and noisy, but hey, its a Jeep. I only had to replace the starter because I took it mudding and got some water in the engine, haha

Love my Jeep and will never sell it !

I have had this Jeep for 3 years now. I bought it and have not looked back. It has been super reliable. Other than routine maintenance it has not failed us . It is soooooo fun to drive and the 4 cyl gets great mileage. I do not keep vehicles for long but this baby will be with me forever ! It is the RIO GRANDE model.

I bought this Jeep after driving a Mercury Grand Marquis for several years, at 28 years old i knew it was time to start living some. I saw my future Jeep advertised by standing on top of a rock. Once i figured out how to remove the soft top and doors i was amazed at how fun it was to cruise in the summer with such freedom. The Jeep has been extremely reliable through all harsh conditions. There is a certain toughness that goes along with a Wrangler. I added off-road tires and fog lights. THe 2.5 litre has 125K on it and is still going strong. A Jeep isn't for everyone and the ride is pretty rough, also the soft top makes for a pretty noisy ride however i enjoy it overall.

I love this jeep. It is easy to work on, a little bumpy but, hey its a jeep. I have no problem going 70mph on the highway at 3000 rpm's. The clutch is smooth. Mpg's aren't bad for a jeep I do have a cold air intake I installed myself in less than 2 hours. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone. My girlfriend has an 04 Rubicon. She calls my jeep the girly one but, honestly I like driving the Rio better.

I bought this 95 Jeep wrangler in nov, 2008 because since I was very Young I always said I would own a Jeep. I think the first words out of my moms mouth were "since you where three years old you wonted one" the Jeep I have is the bare bones model s. With the straight 4,2. 5l. No a/c. The only thing I don't like in this Jeep is it is very slow take off. But still get 20 mpg highway with it. ( no hot rodding like my celica!) this vehicle will take you any where. Its a very light Jeep. You will feel the wind move the Jeep in high wind conditions. Other then that all I can tell you is buy one for a second car. It also almost replaced my atv! It will fit almost any where!

Like most other reviews, I have always wanted a Jeep. Now at 40yrs old and as a toy, I bought one. This little thing is a blast. My army buddies and i get away once a year to go camping and since I got the Jeep, its been great to have all 4 of us pile in and turn up the radio and cruise across the sand dunes or just through town. No mid life crisis here, lol. The Jeep is the simplest thing to work on. Aftermarket parts are avail by the hundreds. I bought it as a toy, but it has turned into my daily driver. I commute 70 miles round trip each day to work, 99% of it is highway and newly paved, and its decent. It was very loud, but a new stereo and speakers fixed the wind noise problem.

My 1995 Wrangler SE (Sport) is equipped with the bullet-proof 4.0 liter in-line six and 5 speed manual transmission. Options include the Sport Package & AC. This little Jeep has nearly 140,000 miles on it and still looks & runs like new. This old AMC designed YJ Wrangler is not a luxury car - it is a vehicle designed to go off-road as well as on- road. If you purchase one knowing its highway limitations (not a high-speed cruiser or a 40 mpg econo-box), as well as its attributes - great in all weather - summer or winter) you should be very satisfied. Sure they are noisy & rough riding, but they are durable, reliable and a blast to drive. My preference is the YJ.

Our Wrangler has 95,000 miles on it, has been driven both on- and off-road in fair and foul weather and is still our favorite of three vehicles to drive. I've used it for several years to shuttle medical personnel to local hospitals during weather emergencies and never had a problem (add a few bags of concrete or other weight). The exhaust has rusted through twice but other than that, not much negative to mention. Not the best vehicle for a long drive on the highway, but just pure fun on two or three-hour drives or for trips to the beach with the top down.

I have owned jeeps all my life cj, xj, and now owning the yj for the past 10 years I've racked up 279,786 miles only replacing the transmission due to my ongoing driving thought deep water the transmission had filled with muddy water after driving it for a month the 2 gear synchronizer exploded nothing else has been replaced on the engine is getting a bit noisy but still runs good I am building a new 2.5 L and adding a turbo for bit more power it will probably be really close to 300,000 miles on it by the time I get the engine put together this vehicle has surpassed every thing in its path

I bought my jeep with 175K on the odometer and a broken transmission. It now has 220k on it. I repaired the trans and drove it until it broke again. The AX-5 is notorious for being weak. I replaced it with an AX- 15 (from a 6cyl) which is much stronger by using a dodge dakota bell housing and a Camaro clutch disk. This transmission should have come in all 4cyl jeeps (it fits like factory). If you are in to offroading and like to work on your rig or will drive it reasonably about town a Rio Grande is the jeep for you. Jeep nuts always change the driveline, so it really doesn't really matter what you start with.

Wanted a Jeep forever, got it for a second vehicle & mid-life crisis car. Put a new engine in it right after purchase so as not to worry about previous care (had 67000 miles on it, we've added close to that), this baby has been good to us! Nothing like taking that top off in the spring and waving to other Jeeps. Have an 8" lift on it, very bouncy and loud (soft top, hard doors & windows) but heater cooks us in winter. Not very powerful (tough to get over 65 MPH on freeway) but not built for freeway driving anyway! I almost bought another for every day but they're a bit small inside so one will have to do. I will always own at least one Jeep from now on!

The first car I ever bought. I didn't imagine it would last me 11 years. It was a great Jeep. I'm trading it in this spring for a "civilians" car. Its been unbelievably reliable. For 10 yrs. I only had to replace the alternator. It has 140,000 mi. Things went south this summer. Major oil leak, brakes locked up, new radiator, new starter, new clutch cylinder, coolant leaks, etc. Very safe, not real comfortable or easy to use when trying to put childern and toddlers in back car seats. Great ride in the spring and fall with top down. I still love the plugs in floor to let water out when getting caught in rain. Bad mpg, but its a jeep. My dog loves it too. Good bye old friend. You'll be missed.

I have wanted a jeep from the time I started to drive. Now at age 37 I finally have one. I love it (and so do my 9 and 5 year old sons). I knew going in to it that the ride will be ruff and bumpy. Hey it is a Jeep and you have to expect it, if you expect a nice smooth ride do not get a Jeep. I have the Rio Grande, it is all stock. The MPG is good for the inline four. It is a great all around Jeep. I use it as a daily driver and always in the desert on the weekends (live in Phoenix). I wish I had a Jeep years ago. I plan to keep it for many more years.

I'm 17 and I was so lucky to get a Jeep Wrangler for my first car. They are so much fun to drive and one of the most versitile vehicles on the road. If it's hot, just pop off the top and doors, and if its cold, Jeep heaters are second to none, it will fry you. But overall I wouldn't trade it for anything else. All my friends think it's the coolest car. One reason is because of the sweet 33 by 30 inch tires I put on it with alloy rims. This SUV rocks!

This Jeep is an absolutely amazing vehicle. In the year and a half I have owned it, it has been through so much and has gotten me home every time. The off-road capabilities are astounding, reliability is top notch when taken care of, and the fun factor is absolutely through the roof! It is a truly go-anywhere, do-anything vehicle unlike most of these modern SUVs and Hummers that can't drive over a pebble let alone a real off-road trail. Oh, and the square headlights rock!

I love my Jeep. Easy to work on; all you really need is a basic socket set. My first motor had 269,000 miles and probably would have gone longer had I paid attention to the plastic clamp at the top of the throttle body (broke and was taking in lot of dirt). Had the motor, transmission, & transfer case out, in and running a weekend. ThereÂ’s a lot to be said for simplicity - I love it. What other car can you power wash the inside, it you want luxury, soft rideÂ…go buy a car

We bought this Jeep from a young lady who took almost no care of it and it still ran great after changing the fluids and tuning it up. It's not the vehicle for a long commute and the top can be tedious to put up but it's a great deal of fun and you can't beat the way these things hold their value. Very rugged and very easy to work on. The short wheelbase is a detriment to a smooth highway ride but makes for almost unbelievable maneuverability. I couldn't afford a TJ but this has served me very well.

I always wanted a Wrangler due to the fact you can drive with the top down and doors off. I'm 24, I love to mountain bike and snowboard. The ride is very rigid on the highway and if you lift it, it gets a little worse. I opted for the 4" Rough Country lift and it's really stiff now. The mileage does suffer after you get bigger tires. 190 miles to the tank on 33's and about 220 miles with 31's. 13-gal tank. The off roading makes up for it. Space is VERY limited. If you can afford one get a 99' or above; so much better with coil springs. 4 cylinder is cheaper for a reason. They got no power at all. Only in low range off road does the gearing make up for it. I have all the tops and doors and they all come in handy.

I purchased this vehicle with the right mindset: a second vehicle, to enjoy off road and around town with my son. I've enjoyed every minute in my Jeep. Simple to maintain, reliable, and cheap to operate. Highway travel is kept to a minimum, due to road noise and bikini top. Other than that, this vehicle is a joy. Four cylinder is slow off the line, but more than adequate for casual driving and off pavement fun. Gas mileage is reasonable considering gearing (4.10's, stock) and boxy body style. If you're seeking a cheap, around town vehicle, or a great little convertible, it's hard to beat an older body style Jeep. And they're darn near impossible to stop off road.

I am owner #2 of a '95 Jeep YJ S, which I bought in 1997. I have used this Jeep in many occupational applications including hauling a light duty trailer for up to 12 hours straight. This Jeep has held up to a remarkable amount of punishment and continues to prove its reliability & ability, & even its safety. I have been in 2 very dangerous accidents (75mph roll-over & T-boned by a 60mph runaway truck) in this Jeep with no injury and astonishingly minimal damage to the vehicle. Mine has over 177K miles and is still going strong. Other than routine maintenance, only repairs have been a replaced alternator, clutch, & steering gear. It looks/works great year-round, & is a blast to drive. Go Jeep.

It must be a "Jeep thing" that I just don't understand - this little thing is so overrated. I would suggest it to someone who goes off-roading every weekend, but for a daily driver, it's atrocious. 4 cylinder = horrid performance and gas mileage as well. The highway ride is unbearable with the soft top, but it's another $1600 to get another one with hard upper doors. The reliability hasn't been great - I took it to the shop three times in two months. Minor stuff, but it adds up. If you want something to play with for the weekends or summer, sure, this can be fun, but I highly recommend something else. I'm buying a Toyota.

With the top and doors off, driving in the summer and on the beach, the Wrangler is second to none. This is purely a second car for fun because when you're on the highway, the noise level is high and you feel EVERY bump on the road. The 1995 S is very basic, which is what a Jeep should be. You can tweak it to your liking. It's a blast driving around town and in the sand on a hot summer day.

I have driven two sets of tires completely away on my Wrangler and it has only been to the shop once. It's a great run around vehicle and fun to drive on country roads on the weekend. If you need a smooth ride for long trips, don't go in a Wrangler. It wasn't built for trips. Nothing beats taking the TOP off and cruising on back roads and to the lake or mountains. Great second vehicle to drive and get out of the everyday rut.

This 1995 Wrangler is one of the neatest vehicles I've owned out of about 75 cars. Great on gas and the 4 cylinder has plenty of pep. Great in snow and also great summer vehicle.

The gas mileage is terrible for a 4 cylinder especially if you plan on any form of oversized tires. I had better gas mileage in my 8 cylinder Firebird. This car has absolutely no power, it is terrible on the highway. The suspension is so loose that you feel every single little bump. Do not consider a Jeep unless you are buying it strictly for off-road use.

The JEEP Wrangler is a true original. I've just moved on from the one that I bought new in 1996. It now has 82,000 miles and is going to be a third car for a family with a new teenage driver. Overall, I've had no unexpected problems with the vehicle. Great in the snow, Awesome in the summer, but not good for long trips or windy days. Gas mileage is ok. Fun to drive around the neighborhood; would make an excellent second car.

I purchased my Jeep from a private owner that knows how to take care of a vehicle. It had 49,000 miles on it, and the engine compartment, interior/exterior were mint showroom condition. I've driven it to Minn. from NC. and back, all over the NC mountains, and use it as my daily comuter as well. I've owned other SUVs that rode a little smoother, and a little quieter, but never so dependable. It will go anywhere I want to put it. I just recently pulled the new monster H2 Hummer out of a muddy river bank, because it costs $60,000 for status and not performance.

we've had my 95 rio grande in the family for about 5 years now. it has been an excelant vehicle. no major mechanica problems, replaced entire exhaust system and the starter. the thing still runs great, and i plan to keep this jeep forever. whenever it comes the time that i need a new vehicle, i will never trade this in... i will just buy a second one. i've put a new stereo in my jeep, and a light bar on the windshield frame, rims, ect. for being 8 years old, it looks, runs and preforms great. the transmission and clutch are still smooth, and the paint is still glossy. i would recomend a jeep to anyone who is thinkng about one.

I bought my 1995 Wrangler new and it's as solid as they come. I've put $78,000 miles on it and have only replaced the muffler, and I damaged the muffler while off road. Other than that just put in the oil and go! If you are in the market for a used Jeep the models from 1995 and older are cheaper to maintain, cheaper to lift, do custom things with and more durable than the Jeep Wranglers made from 1997 on (There was no 1996 model). The Wranglers made from 1997 on are basically Grand Cherokee's with a Jeep body (to put it simply). The suspension repairs or a lift kit on the newer Jeeps cost a fortune!

Although I've only owned this Jeep for two months, it's undoubtedly the most fun auto I've ever driven. It's a macho convertible, chick magnet, stress reliever, and all-around fun time! with the 4-cyl, I don't have as much power, but I get 19mpg. Parking is a sinch with it's narrow body and short wheel base. I haven't off-roaded yet, but it's performance around town and on the freeway make me enjoy driving.

Purchased brand new, first Jeep and I could not be happier. It is not comfortable on long trips, short on available interior room for passengers or gear, and gets poor fuel mileage, but I absolutely love to drive it. It has gotten me through a few blizzards, some local flooding, and everything else mother nature can throw at me. Fun to drive no matter what time of year, great to put the top down. Very utilitarian controls. Heater very strong. This Jeep has been the most trustworthy "friend" I have had!

There is only one thing that will disappoint your purchase of a Wrangler: all your passengers will continually question its practicality. Yea, the soft top is loud, but when you can put it down in 3 min, it's worth all the noise. Yea, the ride is bumpy, but it's the peace of mind that no water, snow, mountain, street, road construction, nor any obstruction can get between my Wrangler and my destination that makes it worth it. Yea, it can get abused and look less than perfect, but it's biggest inker Toy you'll ever see and once you realize the millions of accessories you can add to it to customize, you'll love it even more.

I love my jeep with three exceptions the body still gives out before the engines will and even though the 2.5 will keep up with any 4.3L that chevy puts out it uses a little bit more gas than a 4.3L. with it getting about 16- 20 mpg and the 4.3 getting about 20-22. but the real fun is the 4WD. Noone and i mean no one can keep up with a wranlger/CJ off road out of the factory.

You already know what I'm going to say about this work of art; it is just awesome! I ordered it from the factory, waited 3 long months to get it. Fire enjine red with black hard top (have soft one too), 6cyl 4.0 automatic. Would have gotten str8 drive, but I lived in DC at the time and the stop-&- go traffic was bad. My next one will be a stick, but I'll never, and I mean NEVER let this one go. Restoring a late 60's model also. Please, don't refer to your Jeep as a "she". No "she" could be as rugged as my truck.

I love my Jeep and will never part with it. Ranger (my Jeep's name; no girly names for this butch machine) has always served me well. I had an A/C hose leak while under warranty and they made me pay part of the repair, but I negotiated that. Replaced the belt and a headlight, but that's it! It still looks great inside and out. With my chrome package, it gets the stares and people say they can't believe it's 7 years old; looks like new! Joncj5(at) yahoo dot com.

Bought it used, owned it for 5 years already. I've had convertibles before like the saab turbo, but this is different. It's fun, reliable, more powerful and faster than you think. Seats are comfortable. Tops are a little of a pain to work with, but they have newer versions now. It's a little loud when youre driving 80, and can be a little bumpy if you don't have good shocks. Love the resale value too.
