I picked up this vehicle used for a good price. It initially didn't have many problems, but after a while I had a MAJOR problem with the electrical system where the airbag light will come on, the windows won't go up or down, and the heat a/c won't come on. This usually happened when it was hot out (which is precisely when you need the windows to go down and A/C on). I found out later that this was a common problem in this model, because all of these features are in a single circuit on the modular control unit. The cost to fix the problem is higher than the Book Value of the car, bc you need to change out the whole unit. Don't buy this car.

Got this car in 2000 used with 70,000 miles on it have done regular maintenance oil change lube job etc, in 2003 serpentine belt broke, 2005 transmission replaced 2009 water pump gone replaced, after all that the car is very good strong ride comfortable and now going into 150000 miles the car is still pulling strong.

Bought in immidate need of a car after my caravan was totaled didn't have much info barely looked it over and honestly hated it. My radio/clock didn't work, bad AC,wipers just never were enough even new, had to replace brake lines, now brake pads and forever adding oil. Horn stopped working, and highlights weren't bright though bulbs were good. I barely got 17mpg in town, as much as I hated and didn't keep up manitence it was still A TANK! It got me where I needed to go and is still running strong with all that needs working on at 166000+ miles. I will miss the size, just bought a neon, but otherwise won't miss the car. Needs alot of manitence so much I just couldn't keep up. owned 18 months

Bought it used with 40,000 miles, now has 150,000. 3.5 liter engine. The water pump and timing belt needs replacement every 70,000 or so. Tie rod ends last about 5 years. It's a solid car, nothing fancy in terms of creature comforts, but dependable. I keep track of repair costs and it averages about 1.2 cents per mile driven, much better than 2.4 and 2.8 for my two Bonnevilles. It needs to warm up a while before driving in our cold winters. Daughter has it at college, and still is dependable.

Ok, it's not perfect. It has the same tie-rod issues everybody seems to have. But I presently have 268,000 miles on mine, and it still runs like a top. Extremely nice handling, very comfortable ride, reliable, original engine. AC has been out for years, and it's starting to show a little rust on the doors, and sure, I replace a part here and there over time, but I can't kick. It still feels like a luxury car, and I still love the design of it, inside and out.

my intrepid is my first car. i got it from my grandfather my junior year of high school. i had to rebuilt the trani at 120,000 and until 208,985 i haven't had a single issue with it. fuel pump, water pump, front tie rod, and timing belt are the only issues i've had with her. it's the perfect first car, sporty, efficient, reliable, and comfort, dodge so needs to start rolling them out again. i call her my old man sports car becuase of the comfort as well as the pep that it has. most amazing car ever, i'll hate to get rid of it.

Still gets 20 in the city and 28-30 highway. Had to replace the timing belt and water pump(second one) and the starter but heck it is almost 15 yrs old!!! I will just cry when I finally have to give it up but let me tell you, I will drive it until the wheels fall off or I can qualify for the $4500 credit - not likely due to the mileage it gets. Never a clunker and there are still a number of these big guys out on the road here in GA.

I bought this intrepid from its third owner. Considering the abuse it recieved from the last owner, I was amazed to see it even run. It has the 3.3L and it gets 16mpg in town and 28mpg on the highway. I will swear by the intrepid as long as I'm a qualified technition.

It has a very strong 3.5 liter, 24 valve engine. Problems we have encountered are the water pump goes out at 70,000 miles, according to the mechanic who says he fixes about 4 a week. If you are lucky, the pulley seizing on the pump will shred the timing belt and kill the engine immediately, otherwise, the engine will overheat and warp the heads, increasing the cost from $700 to $2800. Some sort of bolt on the steering mechanism has stripped a couple of times, needing the front end to be dropped down to replace, which has been spendy.

I bought the car in 1997 used with 19,000 miles and it's still running strong at 160,000. I've never even changed the transmission fluid! The engine is still strong and has never had any mechanical issues except normal wear and tear. In fact, it still has the original exhaust system! I wish they never stopped making them. Unfortunately it's time to retire the old girl. I'm selling to my niece.

As soon as I got it, the transmission started to slip. I had to replace that once it just wouldn't go anymore. Then, there was a consistent problem with tie rods and wheel bearings. I've replaced them three times. It's unreal. They are bad again, and now there's a fuel leak, but I'm just going to drive it until I can't anymore. That car's almost ready to be put to rest though, it has around 150,000 miles now. The transmission is also starting to slip again. At times I just hated this car, but then again, I loved it. It's very nice and roomy, and for the most part, reliable. It always started fine, my only problems were transmission, and those stupid tie rods.

I have known owned it for a year and a half, bought with 77000miles, transmission stop shifting at 78000 miles, and it was replaced with a used one what a mistake that was. Shifts good most of the time, leaks fluid, shifts hard when fluid is full. The 3.5 gets about 16MPG in the city, and 27 on the highway. Good car over all, except the transmission.

This car, once it had a new transmission that matched the engine, there have been no problems. I love this car. It is a dream to drive and at almost 11 years old still gets 20 mph in the city and while driving on long hauls at 75 -80 gets an unbelieveable 28-30 mph. with a truck full of luggage. Too bad they do not make cars with seats this comfortable these days. They are wide and gently curved with tremendous back support. This is especially good if you have sciatic nerve or back problems.

I purchased this vehicle with about 90,000 from my Aunt and Uncle who always kept up with the maintenance on this car and had no problems, because the problems were waiting for me. I have had the vehicle for 3 years and I replaced the struts (which my aunt and uncle had already done), brakes, rotors, tie rods, water pump, hood hydraulics just don't work, serpentine belt 3 times and the tensioner pulley. And then there is the AC, the vents up by my windshield blew out that hottest heat ever all the time full blast and would not stop! Of course I couldn't afford to fix it right away so I just had to drive around all sweaty until I shelled out $750.

I purchased my Intrepid about 3 years ago with 65,000 miles and have been pretty satisfied. I now have 112,000 and have had to replace fuel pump and tie end rods but pretty much normal maintenance things. Lots of power and comfort, good ride. AC still works great and electric windows as well with no problems. The only thing I have not been happy with is the rubber around windows keep popping off, the paint on top (clear coat) is peeling and looks tacky, and the hood will not stay up.Also problems with headlight lenses condensating. Otherwise been happy with.Plan on purchasing a newer model, but still want to keep this one for husband.

I purchased this car a little over 7 months ago. The first 2 months with it were great, however then things started to fall apart. In the last 8,000 miles, the transmission, water- pump, A/C, keyless entry module, shocks and tie rods went out. I have never had a car fall apart so fast on me. And the sad thing is, I actually take my car in for rutine maintenance. You would never guess. So if your going to buy this car used MAKE SURE you have a mechanic check it out and run a scan tool on the engine and transmission, otherwise you might end up screwed just like I have been. This really isnt the best car to buy used.

Good car gone bad.

I purchased this car from my dad, who had bought the car brand new. He had problems with the water pump and air conditioning right from the get-go. Nine years later- the car has had five water pumps replaced, a new timing belt two times.. and now there is water leaking into my head gasket and the sway bar needs to be replaced. The car overall the last five years has turned into a piece of junk.

We have had few problems with our Intrepid in the five years we've owned it. However, it does seem to chew through brakes. Maybe because it's such a big, heavy vehicle? We've seated six passengers comfortably in this vehicle. It handles like a smaller car but is roomy and very comfortable. Highly recommend it. We'll likely trade it in for a newer Intrepid.

I bought this car used (46,000 miles) with the hopes that I could go to 100,000 miles with the average maintainance repairs. Boy, was I in for a suprise. The first 1000 miles I drove were good. Then I had a 2 trans problem at 48,000 miles. Followed by a busted tie rod, which was immediately followed by a shock housing problem. Another trans problem, air conditioning problem, heating/blower problem, and now wiper motor is broke... all around 75,000 miles. H20 pump is now going to be the next victim. I have gone through enuf belts to wrap around a city block. I now am going to search out a reliable Pontiac.

We had some problems with it (transmission, AC, engine) at 38,000 to 60,000 miles, but since has been exremely reliable. This car is fun to drive on the highway, and cruises smoothly at 70-75 mph.

-A/C, went out, refilled with refrigerant and leaked out. Dealer was only shop willing to look at it and wanted $50 just to pull it in. I still don't have A/C. -Brake drums, rotors, and shoes at 80,000. -Starter raplaced at about 90,000. $250 w/labor. -Was warned by other Intrepid owners about the tranny.. 91,600 to date for mine and so far, so good. -Front end starting to sound sloppy, but riding fine. -Had an alignment at 85,000. Misc: some chipping paint, black plastic pieces on either side of rear window are cracking and fading, hood doesn't stay up, trunk relay sticks sometimes and has to be tapped to get the trunk lid to shut again.

Seven plus years and 241,000 miles. Got 155,000 miles out of original tires. At 158,000 got a new tranny. One drawback- 4 A/C repairs. Had a waterpump done while under ext. warranty @ 70,000. Been a great car. No other expensive repairs. Paint delaminated in some spots after five or so years. Finally, through normal wear and some neglect car now needs extensive front end work and the fourth A/C repair. Breaks my heart to let it go, but it is beyond economical repair. Engine still runs great. In the overall picture this has been a reliable good looking car. A bargain for the money.

Fun to drive, nice to look at, comfortable w/plenty of interior room. Unreliable transmission, A/C, heating and electrical. Lots of "little things" failing -- passenger side power window won't go up from driver side control, trunk lid doesn't stay up, radio stopped working, traction control starts in park, stalls after long trips. Lots of $$ spent on maintenance and repair. Drove a Honda for 250,000 miles and never saw the kind of problems I have with the Intrepid at 70,000.

I have the 3.5 liter with the larger wheels. Almos the ES, without the nameplate. Plenty of power, and not bad to drive. BUT...I had to REPLACE the tranny at 80,000 miles, my paint is peeling (the dreaded de-lamination problem), and the AC compressor is dead. I'm afraid to shell out for a compressor, for fear that something else will die. This car is a potential money pit. When it works, it's great. But the problems have turned this Mopar fan into a Mopar hater.

The rest is basic maintenance, tire rotation, oil changes, etc. Not only is reliable, it has a lot of room, is fairly powerful with good acceleration, and is fun to drive. It has 135,500 miles at this writing and still runs great.

This is the most comfortable car that I have had in my years of driving! The only thing is that the roof of the car has lost its paint and needs a paint job. Other than that, I feel as though that I am riding a 2002!

The car has never been a powerful ride, but has always been extremely dependable and comfortable. I've only had to replace the belts and tires. Everything else is original and is in fine working order.
