We bought the '95 in 2004 for $4000. It had A/C, AWD and seating for 8. We had just had our 4th child so needed something that could seat 6 so that threw out most of the cars from the equation. I loved this van but it started to cost money and working under the hood was a real pain due to the engine compartment being so small and the "dog house" in the interior having to be removed to work on anything. Mechanics automatically charge more to work on these types of vehicle since there is a lot of effort to gain access to the parts that need to be replaced. Luckily, I could do a lot of the work my self. For the 5 years we owned it, I put about $1000-1500 each year into it.

Love that Chevy

For a van it has major power, with a rwd transmission (700r4) and a 4.3 L 262 Chevrolet v6 you have to respect this van. And only Chevrolet can deliver a vehicle with great performance and ride comfort. Horse rating at 190; mine has a little more due to some engine work; and torque at 262, this van out performs tons of v6's, some v8's, and a 4 cylinder won't come close to this van's power, great van built by the best motor company ever. Love that Chevy!

This has been the 'family truckster' for the past 10 years and 90K miles, and has pulled a camper 1/2 across the country, and has hauled the family on many long (13 hour drive) trips. Only let us down twice - once for a fuel pump (managed to get it going, no tow needed) and once with a cooling system blowout. Now, at 200K miles, it's got headgasket problems (maybe it's had those for a while now) ready to retire it.

Bought the Luxury Touring addition with all the extras and have been very glad we did. The astro appealed to us because it offered better cargo space, better payload, and had better ground clearance. Most minivans just cant do what an astro can. We have had great luck 185,000 miles and only an alternator and window motor. and brakes and tires of course. The all wheel drive works great in all conditions. The one thing you have to watch for with these is the dutch doors. We have also bought a 97 and they both sucked water under the carpet via the plastic thresh hold. But the only way you know is by reaching under the carpet because there's a rubber backing keeping the water from coming through.

A great car, if you can handle the mpg

I can't say enough about how good this van has been for me. It has an engine that is snappier than V-8s,when it's only a V-6. At 16-18 mpg it's not very economical, but very good for a van and excellent for the performance it delivers. It has hauled kids, motorcycles, lumber, brush, furniture, rocks and has always, always handled the load with competence, and cleaned up very well afterward. The rear bench seats can be removed in under 3 minutes bu 1 person, leaving enough floor space for an 4x8 sheet of plywood, and using the between-the- seat space I've gotten 11.5-foot things in there. If you can handle the mpg, get this van!

The motor and transmission are rock solid, everything else has broken and had to be fixed, I mean everything- 4 alternators, radiator, rear end, starter, ac blower motor, electric window motors (both), thermostat, waterpump, ac compressor, and about 12 more things that I have forgotten, I have never had a car that was this crappy- but does have a good motor and trans. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, the worst front end on any vehicle ever made it eats idler arms and tie rod ends. Other than that it is ok.

Great van!

Very dependable van! Motor and transmission strong no problems. We have driven this van to California, Colorado and Missouri with no problems. Would drive it anywhere. Only flaws I would say would be the lack of front passenger leg room and door handles (have 2 Astro's and replaced handles on both of them) Our one van has 186000 miles on it and still runs great! Highly recommend this vehicle!

I bought this van new in 1995 after having two Chrysler "Magic Wagons." The Astro has lots more room, more power, has been much more reliable, and uses no more fuel than my 1993 Grande Voyager did. The only downside is that it is on a truck chassis, so ride and handling is more truck-like than the Chrysler product. The Astro and Safari have taken an undeserved bad rap from some auto mags-just because of the fuel economy-but I have 276,000km on mine, many owners report in excess of 500,000km and still running strong. My two Chrysler vans were falling apart within two years. The Astro has been a much better purchase.

Great van, I have to say!

This van has been great for our family since we got it in 1994. Even though it only has barely over 70,000 miles, it is great! We have had very few problems with it. The only problem I can recall is with the brakes. Something kept busting in them, and now I think the problem is coming back. But other than that, everything is great. The front and rear A/C works great!

The Astro van has been a great vehicle for our family. I would highly recommend it for anyone with children. Our current van has taken us just over 205,000 miles in 9 years. It has finally served its usefulness and we are shopping for our second Astro van. Our primary issues had been with the rear A/C malfunctioning twice & had to be replaced twice (the extended warranty paid for itself). It has been exceptionally reliable for us through the years. Thank you, Chevrolet.

Well done

We purchased this van when our family outgrew our Geo Metro. It has served us well for four years with two and three children under age 5. We have driven it on vaction for over 1000 up to 3000 miles, once a year, with no problems. It has been realativelyeasy to work on for me. I changed the water pump and spark plugs with little mechanical experience and found changing my own oil a simple task. This van has taken it's licks from three wrecks, one slightly major. It protected my young family and after repairs has continued on with only pour repair complaints. I recomend this van for families

I have loved this van. However, at about 100,000 miles I began to have electrical problems i.e. turn signal may or may not work, stalled for no reason and would not restart and the fan goes on and off - not fun in hot weather. It only has 125,000 on it and I am going to sell it. I thought I would get about 150,000 to 175,000 out of it.

We haved loved our AWD Astro. It has pulled the camper over the Rockies, forded Jeep trails in the mountains, hauled the dogs, kids, and everything else you can think of. Very versatile. Tight foot room in front, but all vans do that. With AWD and ABS it is the best snow and ice vehicle we have ever had. It still gets 14-19 mpg and the 4.3 is underpowered, but very reliable. Still doesn't burn more than a quart between oil changes at 125K miles. Too bad they plan to discontinue. We keep driving this one because we can't get another set up the same way.

I bought this van to have to move stuff and just have a bigger vehicle. The power and ability of a truck with the versatility of a cargo van AND a passenger van. VERY nice. Helping friends move, anything's possible with this van. Gas mileage is excellent for a V6, especially a van. 19mpg in the city! Never had a reliability problem. The only problem has been flinging a center cap off my rally wheel today. =) Fun to drive, and it's a van!

Purchased because of our large family. Needed a vehicle that would hold 8 passengers with no problem. Our van has seen many ball fields & vacations. We've only had a few problems with it. Alternator & fuel pump. We have over 190,000 miles on our van it still runs like the day we bought it. It still averages them same gas mileage now as it did then. This was a great purchase!

Reliable, roomy, comfortable for kids.Drivers seat a bit small especially left leg room. The main driver, my wife loves it mostly for the great view of the road and the carrying capacity. Dutch doors in the rear nice, however the weatherstripping has to be replaced once every three years. Handling fine for a truck chassis vehicle.

Bought it new in Cal in 95 with the California package of most upgrades. Has very good power for acceleration and towing. Always starts and runs in excellent manner. I like the truck type feel as it is built on a truck chassis with rear wheel drive. Bit light in back for driving on ice. Bench seats not comfortable for adult to sit in for long drives.

We bought this van because it has 8 seatbelts instead of the 7 in most mini- vans. We have used it *hard*. We have 6 children and travel a *lot*, yet it has been reliable and serviceable for the entire 7 years we've owned it. We bought it used and made a great purchase.

My 1st was a 89 w/160000mls. Traded in for my 95. I've put 35,000mls in 2 yrs. This is by far the best van i've owned. Tune ups are tough. Outside of routine stuff & fuel pump, no major mechanical problems. it's got 108,000mls now. I have 6 kids, not too big- not too small. Not a luxo-van, but nice car for the money. Lot's of power and drives nice for a van. Drove to Florida, filled gas in NJ, VA & GA( round trip 3,000mls @ 130 gals.).

I would buy another one

Bought the Astro new in 1995 and planned to drive it 30K on company business. Things changed and I have it seven years later. I have not done anything to it other than maintenance in 126000 miles. I love sitting up above most other vehicles including the rest of the mini vans. The Astro is responsive and solid and gets great milage on the highway 20mpg. We have camped in it with the back seats out, my son and I have driven it several time to Colorado to ski (just through everything includings downhill skis in the back and go) and I drive it everyday to work Not many vehicles can do all that.

Great vehicle. I bought it new. Altinator went out at 79K but so what? Good on fuel, good on tires. Can fit 7 people in my van. I paid 21k in 95. This vehicle is the biggest bang for the buck. The 4.3L engine is Chevrolet's best engine. I have a friend that has 237K on his 91 Astro and not problems expect for AC....and normal maintenance stuff.

We bought this with 46000 miles. Conversion by Choo Choo. Excellent dealer. Car is smooth and quiet and relatively dependable. Disappointed that the trans went at 140000 as GM's are supposed to be the best. (never had a trans go bad until we were required to change fluids) Great on tires and other maintenance.
