I purchased my 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee last year and LOVE it. This is my first car and I got it for a good price. My Jeep has the V8, which is very powerful, and returns good fuel economy for its engine and the type of vehicle it is. My Jeep is loaded and has leather, power everything, keyless entry, the information screen at the bottom of the center stack, 4WD, and I put in a Sony stereo with Pioneer speakers. The Jeep starts up every time like it should and is a very reliable vehicle. I'll always be a Jeep person! (:

My Jeep has a substantial amount of power, and it has more acceleration than my other previous vehicles. Its compact design makes it easy to fit into parking spots, and has excellent handling on bad roads due to its all-time 4X4. It also offers a smooth ride, and good gas mileage.

Bought on 06 one problem after another not sure why. Replaced the whole car etc brakes brake line wheel bearing alternator 3 times ecu water pump transfer case three time new viscous coupler radio speakers tires ac compressor drive shaft cv boot three times 2 tune ups trunk lift gas is anywhere from 9 mpg to 13 mpg this Jeep only has 100,000 miles on it I don't off road or drive like a crazy person just to the store and school and the problems never end I have been fixing things every month for a year now and I do it myself so I saved a lot if money it would have cost me 10,000 to do at the dealership if I would have knowing this was going to happen I would have never bought it. Do not buy

Just traded this Jeep in with 247,000 miles on it. It was a great vehicle to own and went it everywhere, off-road and on the interstate. Great in snow. I had the 4.0 L motor which I liked except the gas mileage wasn't anything to brag about. I liked this one so much I got a newer Grand Cherokee to replace it. I think I'm hooked on Jeeps.

Far better than its general reputation

Bought from original owner with 130k, put 58 k on it in 3 years. Does everything you could ask of an SUV. No electrical problems, had to replace original water pump and radiator at 160k. Now have to fix rear hatch and 1 window motor. Great for 3 years ownership of a 17 year old Chrysler. If you need an inexpensive SUV buy one. Its an early SUV so you get what it is not some fluffed up car based nonsense that can't tow or go off road. Does all we want and more. Original paint still 90%+ only a few scratches, quality is great. Best Chrysler product made.

Have Owned for over ten years. Bought from father in law due to 160,000 miles and he thought it was ready to die. It now has 310,000 miles; uses a quart every 1600 miles. Normal maintenance, and been in the woods many years for hunting. No major problems, and have to run it till it drops dead. My quest was to make it to 300,000 but the dumb thing keeps going, going, and going. Great on ice.

For a 16 year old rig very pleased.

No big complaints. Getting ready to sell it after 2 years of ownership. I figure with repairs and maintenance it cost me $100 month in depreciation-- not bad, especially considering the abuse the previous teenage owner surely put it through. Very torquey (V8) and grabby 4WD. Speaking of grabby 4WD, I do NOT like the full- time 4WD-- it costs you in gas mileage and the front wheels differential doesn't work well when making low speed, tight turns.

My jeep currently has 236,000 miles and nearing 237k miles. I don't see how it still runs and is very old, but it is reliable and runs very strong. this thing has been thru rain, and much snow but now in florida. Other than the fact I have had to replace a few front end steering parts, 2 fuel pumps, battery, and tires, the jeep is very honorable. It lets nothing keep it from running.

I have owned my 94 Grand cherokee for almost a year now. I love it. It has the power , Ride comfort , and style. I have babied this car since day one i got it. My jeep has a 4" lift and 31" tires. So a offroader jeep. This is my 1st car. The only work i have had 2 do on this car is undoing the last owners mistakes, Such as putting the proper size shocks on. A actual transmission pan gasket, ( Not masking tap) and putting bolts through the front Brake caliber. I love this car. The power is amazing, The original paint is in amazing condition. The pillow top leather seats are very comfy. Parts are cheap 2 by. Build quality it good. Reliability is great. Jeeps are good. Will by another one 4 sure

My dad gave me a jeep as my first car with 210,000 miles on it. it was in awesome shape, garaged all the time and was good on gas, got about 25 miles to the gallon. the straight six was not short on power and still ran great at 215000 miles. Only new parts on it are; oil pump, U-joints tie rod ends and ball joints, everything else is stock. Jeeps best vehicle ever i think they really designed this very well.

2nd owner of this jewel, and it has been better than expected. My second Jeep, and would hate to do without one now. Rock solid on every kind of road (or lack thereof), fantastic in snow, great on rocky roads. 15-20 mpg and plenty of power from the V8 when you need to kick it. Very low maintenance. Hope that gas prices don't make them disappear completely, because Colorado winters and mountain roads need that kind of solid, dependable 4WD vehicle for the sake of safety (fun is nice, too!).

A great vehicle. My father bought this Jeep new in late 1993 and sold it to me in 1997. The 4 litre straight six has been a rock. It has the usual "piston slap", but all that I've done in 14 years is a new water pump and fuel pump. I stay ahead on things like the fuel filter and other tune up items. The Jeep has rewarded me handsomely for it. I towed an overloaded 2 axle u-haul trailer across the country and threw a wheel bearing that led to a shredded axle, but that was my own fault. The Jeep still got 13 mpg that trip. I have loaded it with 1000 lbs + too many times to count. It towed my boat like a champ too. I have really abused it over the years but it still cleans up nice

I've recently purchased a v8 grand Cherokee limited that was brought to Canada over a year ago from California... The truck sat for over a year without any starting.... Boosted it, & it ran & drove on a dead battery & year old gas! Truck has been a daily driver since then, & goes trail-ridin' every 2 or 3 days... Never been stuck... Never broke. That's a tough truck, in my book! I'm convinced... It's definitely a Jeep thing... I'm hooked on these things now.

i bought my jeep with 200k miles and minor suspension problems. engine runs strong. four-wheel drive works great, i have towed people out of deep trails idling along in four-high. I've also become accustomed to the term 'its a jeep thing' it performs better than a car in that shape should. after some scheduled maintenance along with suspension work it drives solid as a rock. jeep won me over.

The jeep is unbeatable. Living in New England, I've had my share of snowstorms and rain storms,a dn the Jeep has gotten me safely out of all of them. The 4WD is unbeatable and the reliability is unmatched. I've owned the car since 1998 and its now turning 220,000 miles. Still pulling. Only problems has been the U-joints and the Radiator have gone out recently, which, being a mechanic, cost me about $500, but would have been appraised around $1200. $1200 in 13 years? And Toyota said they had a low maintenance cost.

I purchased this Jeep in California with 50,000 miles on it. Within the first six months it needed a new water pump, new exhaust manifold, new tires, etc, etc. Since buying this in 1999 I have had the transmission replaced 3 times! I am not a off roader or speed demon. I am a run of the mill guy who believes that purchasing this vehicle is a complete waste of money. WHEN ITS RUNNING, IT HAS A SMOOTH QUIET RIDE that anyone will enjoy. The two wheel drive model is useless in any type of snow or ice.

Purchased in 96 or 97 and have loved every minute of ownership of this SUV. Replaced gas tank, viscous coupler, rotors, radiator, fuel pump, didn't mind any of it. Wanted to upgrade and had nothing but Jeep in mind however, did not like the 05 body style. Doors slanted and made entry and exit to difficult on head and neck. I would still be driving this Jeep if not for problem with starting but then choking out and dying which left me stranded every summer (never in the winter) leave it sit for hour or so and it would start right up and drive away. Several repair attempts and they could not find the problem. Time to move on. Still say the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo "the best I ever owned!"

It's a Jeep thing - you know!

I was lucky, my 94 JGC was not build on Monday! I got 245K+ miles on it with very little reliability issues. Water pump needed replacement after 160K miles ($450 repair) Transmission seal let-go after 210K miles ($475 repair for a $3.50 seal!). I just loved the interior pillow leather, great stereo system by Infinity and great air conditioning. I can drive for thousands of miles on trips and not get tired. Original engine with no oil leaks, strong compression check, plugs still runs clean after every 20K miles. Cat Converter + exhaust changed at 185K miles. I went synthetic in transmission, transfer case, differential, engine, steering pump. Parts inexpensive for 2 million JGC 93-98!

In my family we keep our cars to the end. We all have Jeeps. Mine is the oldest..1994 with 234,000 miles. Runs like a gem. When people see it, they can't believe the year and the miles! I am just starting to think about trading it in and it makes me sad! I have not had to replace engine or anything major. Water pump, Synthetic oil changes every 6,000 miles and sometimes I have to get an oil leak repaired. Best car ever. I tell everyone to buy Jeeps, they are worth it!

I have owned my '94 Jeep Grand Cherokee for over a year now. It is my first vehicle and my mom also owns one (1998 though). It is very reliable and the only problems have been mostly from abuse of past owner. The CV shaft on the driver side was badly torn but other than that, no major problems. It handles well on-road, as well as off-road.

I bought my 1994 Jeep with 99,000 miles on it two years ago. The Jeep now has 160,000 miles and it just keeps going. It has had its share of problems along the way, but I am 18 and I like to take my grand on the trails, so most of my repairs are due to me beating on it (VC in transfer case, starter got water in it and broke, shocks had to be modified, rear end went out, ripped up gears in transmission). Most of these things happened on the trails but if it were a Blazer it would have been much much worse. You beat a Jeep and it will still run for you, now what car will do that?

I love my Jeep - it's the best vehicle I've ever owned. I am the third owner, bought it at 70,000 miles and have driven it over 45,000 miles without any major problems at all. I couldn't be more pleased. I was nervous reading some reviews that made them look like they just dropped dead at 100,000 miles. Well mine still runs smooth and strong. No engine, tranny or transfer case replacements ever needed. Could be because I and the previous owner ran full synthetics in it since around 50,000 miles.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is one of the best built vehicles that I have owned in the past 25 years. Purchased brand new. Vehicle has 170k miles and still purrs like a cat. Oil changes every 3k miles and trans & axles every 35k. A/C compressor replaced at 120k miles, water pump at 70k. My teenager is now using it, and loves it. My mechanic wanted to buy it for his teenager b/c he thought it was in great condition. Jeep did a great job when designing this vehicle.

Has been a wonderful vehicle for 10 years. I have done all of the maintenance myself and the car has performed like a champ. In ten years I have replaced the brake pads twice (with rotors once), water pump, fuel pump(that was painful), muffler, and starter. The straight six cylinder has made working on this tune-ups and such a dream.

Bought used from a dealer in 1995 and still smells new inside. Only repairs were front differential bearings, a cv boot, and transfer case seal. Also factory alarm system had mind of its own and I had dealer deactivate it. Very comfortable for long trips of 5000 miles or more but have also been off- road in the desert and over mountains. My Jeep has never let me down. I expect to drive it for many years.

Now 230k miles. I have bounced my Jeep off granite boulders, driven many 24-hour family vacation marathons and used it as a 50 mile/day commute vehicle. Indestructible. Still on the original rotors, starter, alt., etc., more than I can say for any Volvo or GM product I've owned. Replacement items: tranny at 190k!; a/c comp. @ 130k; radiator (my fault) at 120k; water pump at 160k. That's it! In every case the equipment has exceeded my life expectations. Oil every 3k, tranny and diff. fluid change every 50k. If I could find another '94 with say 50k, I would buy it can keep it for my son. I recommend anyone who can get this model and year if you can.

I bought my (first) Jeep about six months ago. I put on a new set of tires and replaced practically every belt on board - they were all dry rotted from sitting idle in the desert southwest. I agree that the breaks need some help, and the alarm is a nuisance. With present gas prices the 15-19 mpg range gets expensive quickly. I drove 3700 mi over 3 weeks this winter without so much as a hiccup, so I'm quite pleased.

I picked up my 94' Laredo 4x4 5-speed with only 40,000 miles on it in October, I haven't had a problem with it since, 12,000 miles later and it's still like driving it the vary first time. I can't explain how much I love to drive it, on and off road. The one suggestion I can make is get the 5-speed.

My wife and I are orig owners and after 10 yrs and dispite some expensive repairs we still love it. Only problem prior to 100k was the brakes front and back which have always been a problem, and the water pump. Replace the composite rotors with solid. I run this truck hard, tow a boat go 4 wheeling (beach, mud,+)and the 5.2 still runs good at 173k. At 100k the expense began; QuadraTrac tranfer case rebuild, rear diff. rebuild, trans rebuild and just blew out both rear brake cylinders. Like I said I run it very hard, and still love it!

I am the orginal owner of my Jeep and after 150,000 miles it still looks and runs wonderful. The interior has generally held up but it rattles more than I'd like it to, but this vehicle is 10 years old so its expected. I've replaced the water pump, radiator and catalytic converter and had the trasnmission rebuilt at about 100k. These problems are typical over the years, however, the brakes have always been a nightmare. Other than that, I love this vehicle and plan to keep it for many years to come.

Love the vehicle, but needs improvements

Great vehicle for the first 7 years but in the last two years I have replaced the catalytic converter, water pump, a/c evap.coil and have had the transmission rebuilt. About $2700 in repairs. All that expense would be more acceptible if it had 150,000 miles on it, but it has only been driven about half of that mileage.

Not perfect, but beats a car payment!

Car runs good and you can usually get them cheap. If its a secod vehickle, its not bad. Mine has needed a water pump, air conditioner work, but this is simply maintenace on a 9 year truck. Impressive off road capability!

This car is a disaster waiting to happen. I have never had these kinds of problems with other cars. The 'upholstery' on the trunk door is falling down. The roof console is falling down. The gear shift box cracked out of the blue. The rear view mirror leaks water inside the car whenever it rains. The alarm system goes off on its own for no good reason and cannot be disabled by the dealership without also disabling the stereo and the on-board computer. Various bits and pieces in the engine keep breaking at a much faster rate than any car I've ever had. I would NEVER buy another Jeep.

This is the nicest vehicle I've ever owned. I love the looks and the ride. This vehicle was 6 years old when I bought it and it was very well taken care of. I am the third owner. I added a K&N Filtercharger. Other than scheduled oil changes and new tires (got to almost 80,000 on original tires) I've put nothing in to it. Right now it needs a new muffler but no other signs of problems. I plan on keeping it for a long time.

Best of the 4 Jeeps I've owned!

Reliable as the day is long! The V-8 has lots of power when needed. No rattles or squeaks. Change the oil and drive it - that's all Wax 2x's a yr. finish is still like new. Interior is still in great shape. Well thought out drivers layout. Auto shut off of exterior lights is great when parking in dark places. Cruise is child's play to use.

Enjoyable Ride

We purchased our 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee new in '94. We took a drive the first month from North Carolina to Colorado... put 7,000+ miles on it right from the start. We just turned over 170,000 miles and are getting ready to purchase a new 2003 Grand Cherokee... This has been a wonderful vehicle for my wife, she loves the ride and the comfort. She is looking forward to a new Jeep, and hates to see this one go...

4 motor mounts (one per year), 1 cv joint, and at 135,000 4-speed automatic transmission quickly ground to a halt and can't be repaired. I'll never buy another Jeep product.

I was in a potentially fatal accident 2 days ago in my 1994 Jeep. Many have told me of their rollover potential, but I found that this vehicle actually saved my life. I was driving at a speed of appoximatley 70 mph when a car to my right was clipped by a semi and spun out of control. His back end hit my front passenger wheel well which also caused my tire to blow. I initially lost control and fishtailed 3 times back and forth across 4 lanes of freeway traffic. I was very surprised at the handling of this vehicle in this situation and am grateful to have been able to walk away.

This is the best car ive ever owned. Ive driven across the country and didnt stop for 1 mechanical thing. I only filled up gas. It has 326,000 miles on it and it runs like a charm. The engine is in perfect condition. If you keep up with our check ups, the car will run great. Buy a Jeep and keep it for a while, it will last.

Our '96 Grand - ain't so! Differential (went out!), A/C (wen't out), computer under hood (fried!), transmission fluid (leaking as we speak), wheel shimmy (makes an exciting ride!) all THIS within a year and 1/2 of owning this Heap of Jeep! It's the proverbial MONEY PIT! Looks GREAT - but, I don't even trust it to run to the grocery store!! If it weren't for a husband that's mechanically inclined AND an extended warranty - it would be GONE... What's worse?? still paying on the loan! Run - Run as fast as you can - STEP AWAY FROM A JEEP!!!!!!

Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD-LOADED. STAY AWAY. Wife had vehicle since new; maintained to the hilt. Despite great care, list of repairs on this piece of junk too lengthy to list. Most notable lately: tracking bar and other suspension parts ($300), new air conditioning system ($1500), new fuel pump ($500), leaking transmission, faulty wiring, on and on. Last two years: cost over $3,000 (that's half of its current market value). I hate it. Will never buy a Chrysler product. My Toyota has same mileage (115K), and NEVER had a problem. Can't wait to sell this heap of junk and get a 4Runner.

This is my fourth Jeep. I bought after my 1992 Cherokee Laredo finally gave up the ghost after 396,724 miles. Yes, Virginia, Jeeps DO last more than 30,000 miles. My wife has a 2001 60th Anniversary Edition Cherokee and loves it. Solid, rugged, fun to drive, reliable and popular - that's what has turned me and many of my friends into "Jeep-Heads". My next Jeep will be a Wrangler of some sort.

Purchased the vehicle from CarMax with 101k miles, it now has 125k and engine still running strong. (V8 5.2L). We did have to have a small oil leak in the transfer case, (QuadraTrack) but nothing major after that. Of course the A/C Evaporator went out like it does on all of the GC and the Catalitic converter. knock on wood thats all the problems that we have had. fuel economy could be better, after replacing the O2 sensor the MPG went up to about 21 from 17 hwy.

Unless you are a mechanic and enjoy to get under the hood, do not buy. CV Boots, electrical, water pump, AC and front mirror all had to be replaces/fixed. Costing a bunch as well asthe headaches of taking it in and not knowing if the mechanic is screwing you over or not. I will never buy a jeep again. Like the other guy, Toyota is the next new car for me.
