Bought my 94 XJ for a steal at $1400, everything was still working, even the stock radio. Only had to replace the temperature sensor so it would start while cold, but nothing else needed replaced! Cannot beat its of road capabilities. Living in a city that doesn't plow or salt the roads during winter, the difference the 4 wheel drive makes on icy roads is phenomenal! Saved us several times in bad weather being able to drive where no other car could. I will never sell this thing, even if you offered me $20k for it.

Can't beat it!

Can't say enough good things about the Jeep Cherokee. This is the 2nd one I've owned. After 233,000 miles this thing still has enough power to get your blood moving! The tranny and the t-case are still in great working order. Coupled with a set of bfg all terrains, it's pretty much unstoppable. It's been reliable, safe, and comfy. The a/c still works too! Jeep should have never dropped this design. The liberty, compass, and the like are nothing more than fancy Jeep look-a-like station wagons. Long live the xj!

Many miles - cheaper than new

Bought the Jeep at 175k and now 240k. Blew the transfer case chain at 220k. Getting some oil consumption now, 1qt every 1k (acceptable). Starts fine, runs great, no leaks, general maintenance done and love the vehicle. Body in good shape, considering new motor and trans rebuild when necessary. Sorry, keep your cash for this clunker!

They dont make them like they used to...

For an suv that has 235,000 miles on it, this thing is amazing. I bought it in June for $250 from a co-workers family member. In total i put about $1000 worth of work into it, 4 new tires, fuel pump, catalytic converter, brakes and tranny output seal. This thing is fast, it blows away my friend's explorer, and gives a Ford Probe and Honda Civic a run for its money. Steering is a little loose, but what do you expect for a truck that has that sort of mileage and is 14 years old. My only regret to it is not having 4x4. I have had it packed to the gills with equipment, and you barely notice its there. Lot of power superior reliability!

Amazing

Bought it with 260,000 miles on it in Florida and put 5000 miles on it with no issues. Usual maintenance for it but other than that, best car i have owned, never lets me down. Love having 4x4 and everything but the stereo setup and comfort of driving it is the best part about it.

I love my jeep. I go out of my way to drive through puddles and over objects now with this thing. You cant help but to have fun with this vehicle. Almost seems like a giant toy. I'm upset only because I purchased it in Alaska and the road salt ate my floor pan away pretty much but theres nothing I could do about that until I find a new body. It's definitely a project vehicle from the condition I bought it in but everything seems extremely easy to work on so far. I just love it.

Just bought my used Jeep recently and I love it. I'm a new jeep fan! I heard these SUVs aren't great but I love the box design and it beats my previous '92 olds cutlass hands down. I haven't had any problems but I haven't had it very long.

When there's only one, there's only one. JEEP! I've had mine a little over a year now. Bought it with 153K now at 180K. I love it. The reliability, 4WD, rear locker, all awesome. Way better than the new junk put out by Mercedes (DCC). My XJ will out 4wheel any new Grand Cherokee or Liberty out there! Even with a busted radiator, front output seal and cheap tires. DCC should have never replaced this beauty with that junk Liberty. But after 17 years of awesomeness I guess you have to modernize. But DCC just should have stopped production and not "replaced" it because you cant replace the love us 4 wheelers have for the XJ.

I bought this Jeep from my dad who owned it for two years. I drove it all through college, took it on road trips, and did everything else imaginable to it. No major problems at all. I put a 2inch lift on it for mainly cosmetic reasons, replaced the radiator ( it still runs really hot), and pretty much just regular maintenance. The body is beginning to rust near the tailpipe, and some paint is starting to fade/bubble/peel. I'm down to only getting about 13mi/gallon. But hey, just more character for the Jeep.

I bought my jeep from my father after I got tired of sending each paycheck to the mechanic to fix my volvo. 80,000 miles later, I can't believe it hasn't had any problems. I replaced a water pump two years ago and haven't done anything beyond regular maintenance since then (now it has 150k). The ride is very rough, but what you'd expect for an SUV. Don't get 2WD if you can help it - handles just awful in inclement weather with no weight in the back to keep it from fishtailing. Otherwise, it's been dependable, good for towing and moving stuff, gas mileage not too bad.

I have owned this vehicle since August 1994 when I purchased it brand new. Even today, closing in on ten years later, it is still running strong. I have had very few problems with this Jeep. I have replaced the water pump, radiator, and a main seal, as well as managing normal maintenance such as oil changes and tires. Money for this Jeep was very well spent. To compare, this Jeep has 197,500 miles on it. I also own a 2001 Dodge Durango R/T, a really awesome vehicle. However, the Jeep is my daily driver. I depend upon it for nearly every drive work or to the store. I just let the Durango sit and run this Jeep until it drops, and I don't know when that'll be.

Bought my Jeep new and drove 50,000 mi first 2 years with no major problem. The ride is rough and power is excessive for regular on-road driving. Gas consumption averages about 15-16 city and not much higher on the highway. My Jeep is spartan and the only feature I had the dealer install after market was a cruise control for about $90 then. Exterior is durable - hit deer twice, backed into wall - except for minor work bumper and finish are fantastic. My Jeep has been outstanding since day 1 now my son wants to keep it for when he gets his license.

A reliable off-roader, despite the rep.

I bought my Jeep in March 2000 with 75,000 miles on it. I have not had to repair anything except for the usual, brakes, belts, etc. The 2 door model has better visibility but is harder to get into the back seat. I have taken it off-road in different environments numerous times and it is so much fun! My stock Cherokee can easily keep up with my friend's lifted 4Runner. The ride is nicer off-road in 4L than on the highway in 2wd. I love the utilitarianism of the Cherokee, and it has been a fantastic vehicle.

I bought my cherokee used about a year ago with only 28K on the engine. I've had some minor interior problems: seatbelt getting caught in the door, som cracked plastic pannels, rips in the vinal. I would be getting about 2o mpg, but I have a slow fuel leak that lowers it to about 14. Gas is expensive, but it is fun to drive and I wouldn't drive anything else.

has a lot of get-up-and-go power I have gotten an average of 20mpg with a high of 24mpg on a road trip and a low between 15 - 16 when using the 4wheel drive in snow. It's a dirty shame that JEEP discontinued this very popular model

bought my Cherokeefor 3900 and promptly sold my 2000 Mustang GT (which I found to be uncomfortable..and so was the payment) The Jeep has been a trip. It's got plenty of get up and go with 190 Hp. . It has been very reliable. Ive driven it 17k, the only work done a brake job (friend did it for 100 bucks), hose sprung a leak (i replaced it for a dollar), oil changes, new shocks (didn't have to..just thought it was time- $75), friend and I tuned it up (plugs, new wires, cap $50) oh, and I bought the jeep steel 5 spoked wheels on ebay for$100 nice touch really updated the look.

It's just alright

Bought it used, and it's been alright. Had a TPS sensor go out right way, ignition coil about 3 months later. Rides REALLY rough, freakin' loud wind noise, but I guess that's to be expected from a flyin' box. Interior plastics cheap, electrical system screwy. Door locks hard to undo w/ your hand when the pwr doesn't work. Brake lights work sometimes.

Bought this with 124000 miles on odometer. Now has 205800 miles. I drive 36000/year. Still gets 21.5 - 22 mpg. Automatic transmission is Asian "A4"...there can be no better on the market. Transfer case also works well. No rain leaks. Had to reweld hinge on driver door. Rear shock upper mounts could be better designed. No better reliable and durable SUV exists. Jeep Rules!

I bought my Jeep Cherokee new in 1994 and have loved it. Unfortunately some other scumbag liked it too and stole it out of my work parking lot a week and a half ago. They found it but unfortunately it was totalled. After 8 years it still ran well and only had the expected repairs needed in the 120,000 miles that I had driven it.

I haven't had to do any major work except to fix the damage I've done by taking it off road. The sport is a great model if you like to move too! It would really haul when I first got it. All in all, I think it has a been a great vehicle, but I will say that this particular jeep that I bought only had one other owner before me who had a large pile of tune up receipts...

I Just love it , the ride is harsh , the road noise is loud(even louder with aggresive oversized tires) , and it has the aerodynamics of a brick . What else could I ask for in a real SUV . This thing could handle offroad situations when it was stock as good or better than a lot of non-stock SUV's . My Cherokee is my daily driver and my weekend warrior . If you are looking for a cream puff Foo-Foo soccer mom SUV , this is NOT for you . Reliability has been excellent with regular preventative maintenance. I have 139,00 miles and yet to have any problems .
