I love my car its my first one ive had it for a year. Ive replaced the water pump and starter and done a tune up and full oil change and front brakes. I also had to fix the AC when i bought it. Recently my cars been shaking alot something its never done and it gets way worse if you try turning on the AC. Also overheats when i run my AC. Does anyone no what could be wrong i really want to figure out whats up and get it fixed before it causes something else to go wrong

I got it from a friend for $500. It had previously been used off-roading. The AC didn't work, there was a power-steering leak, and the odometer had broken at 125k miles before he owned it. We guesstimated around 180k miles, give or take. I can tell you, I didn't expect much. I was pleasantly surprised. The car ran great, never had any problems starting or overheating. I drove it for 3 years before a bearing went bad and I failed to get it fixed, leading to brake problems. Otherwise it was completely reliable and very fun to drive. It'll treat you right as long as you treat it right (regular oil changes/general maintenance). A great first car. I'll miss you, Thundy!

I purchased this automobile new in 1993 and have driven it for 17 years. Up until recently it offered a trouble- free existence, other than blown head gaskets at around 80k miles. It still has the original exhaust system, muffler, belts, hoses and LED tail lights in functioning condition. Other than replacing tires, shocks, and brakes it has been a no- maintenance car. However, in the last year a variety of systems have finally given out: air compressor (and original freon, sorry ozone), link arms, upper control joints, and paint. I have had these repaired assuming it will repay the investment with many more driving years as this car potentially becomes a classic - we'll see.

I loved this car when I purchased it at 17 years old with 80K miles in 2001. The car was loaded and looked beautiful. It was a V-6 and a bit underpowered. I have had nothing but problems after the first week. First, was O2 sensors (about $200). Then the suspension needed repair ($1500). Then the multifunction switch died (the car could not switch the high beams off...about $300 to fix...I just disconnected them). Transmission was beginning to slip. I took a friend to the airport about 100 miles away and guess what, the engine went. I actually managed to get the car towed, and got a little value for trade in. I babied that car and it gave nothing but problems. The car died at 96k miles.

My very first car, and I loved her. Excellent slow speed handling and turning radius. Quick off the line but slow to 60. Wobbly on the highway. Had the notorious head gasket failure at around 70k miles. Otherwise, just minor sensor issues and a leaky radiator.

Purchased the 'bird new on '93, but had to have the dealer fix the water pump, brakes (twice) and replace wheel bearings within 6 months. The ventilation system has always squeaked, and what bonehead decided not to put cupholders in the car? Rides nice and quiet, but the engine area has always had a smell of antifreeze. At 73,000 miles the headgaskets blew. My '87 Bird blew headgaskets at 30,000 miles! Why can't Ford fix this seemingly chronic problem? I guess that's why so many people are going to Japanese cars. They seem to respond to problems.

I loved my 1993 Ford Thunderbird LX. It had a V6 3.8L, which ran pretty well and fast for the weight, though I felt the engine was underpowered ( but still had enough to satisfy me. ). I took a turn going 30mph and hit a pole, because my wheels locked up and I didn't have time to pump my brakes, and it totalled my car. I cried that night...I loved this car...and now I'm looking at a 1994 Thunderbird LX for 1,995.

Bought car in Georgia with 60,000 miles. No lemon law! Had BAD shake, alignment made it disappear long enough for me to take it home. Head gaskets were blown, front end squeaks, car and steering wheel shake over 40 mph. Head lights randomly shut off. Fixed headlight switch 5 times. Put $700 into gaskets, $1200+ into suspension plus new rims to fix shake (finally!). AC compressor broke, new fan belt even squeals, oil leak, transmission leak, radiator leak, bad temperature gauge at 80,000 miles, rear end has developed kick and transmission hesitates badly in cold weather, passenger window & seat belt broke, weatherstripping rotting, fog lights dead, doors rattle. I put over $3,000 into it within 2 years, now it needs more work. Very comfy & roomy.

Lives up to its name.

Alright, I bought my 93 with 117,998 on the clock and a 5.0L engine. She rode like a dream and still does but she is a high maintainence machine. I've spent almost half of what I paid for her in repairs in less than a year later. Some of the problems recur.. like the cooling issue, this is my 3rd thunderbird, I previously had an 83 and a 90. Had cooling problems with all three.

I have a '93 T-Bird LX (was there any other trim level?) with a 5.0 V-8. This engine is unbelievable. The car now has over 380K miles on the original engine. Have only done oil, filters, plugs, wires and the engine is as strong as ever. Doesn't like anything less than 91 Octane.. unfortunately. I have replaced brake pads probably every 30K and rotors every 60K. Rear brakes have faired better. Replaced the transmission (at 120k) and rear main seal (at 250K). Has always had electrical system gremlins. The interior is falling apart and the body is showing signs of 10 NE winters. This engine is incredible.

I bought my T-Bird from a friend who really screwed me on this car. It needed new ball joints and control arms in the front end($700)Then the brakes totally went out, complete brake job ($500)needs an alternator and new tie rods another $4-500. This is a good car if you have the money to fix it when something goes wrong with no warning. It is also sporty and reliable. Fords are really an expensive car to own they have transmission problems as well as the starters. Mine has 127,000 miles but I've had it less than 6 months and just look at everything thats been fixed already. Just be picky when buying a ford and you'll be better off buying from a dealership.

So much fun - I have 2

I bought this car only because it was cheap and I needed a transport. Having owned a few muscle cars, I didn't expect much. I was wrong. The 5.0 had more power than I expected and I've had a lot of fun driving. It's a great mix of power and luxury.

These cars blow headgaskets!!I wish I knew they blew ON ALL before I bought it.I didn't even have plates on it and the head gasket blew.Check engine light comes on at random, sometimes will go months in between occurences. I will be driving along, all of a sudden it starts hesitating and the check engine light comes on then goes right back off.I drive for a few more minutes and it works fine. Then stop at a traffic light and it runs fine then all of a sudden just stalls no hesitation no drop in rpm just bang its off. It takes water at random. In short, DO NOT BUY THE 3.8L V6!!!!! Seems as if the V8 is okay though, from what I've heard and read.

I'm 16 and bought this car from a friend w/ 156,000 miles on it. So far i've need to replace the headlight switch $150 (there has been a recall...i didn't find out until after i paid though), 1 tail light for like $225 (crazy!), muffler $150 (flowmaster baby!!!) and all this just to pass inspection. Well, it was well worth the investment. It rides great, feels great, and i'm very happy w/ it. I have had no other problems with it at all.

In the 30 months that I have had this car, I have changed one power window motor. Asides from that this 10 year old baby has not required any attention. The factory paint has held up to our Florida sun and the interior has done the same with out tints. It is fun to drive in the sense of it's handling. I would have given a higher fun rating had the V-6 had some more power. The fuel economy is pretty good for a car that size. Sadly someone ran a stop sign and the ins. company is declaring it a total loss. Still it is a very solid car. The ins. company says it has frame damage but when I drove over the weekend it drove straight. I'll miss this car very much.

At 90,000 miles I had to replace the heads at a Ford dealership, but am still having problems. I've replaced the switch twice now for my headlights and am once again having problems with the lights flickering and the brights don't work. However, it is pretty dependable, I have 145,000 miles on my Bird and the body is in great shape, no rust and it's comfy and roomy.

I bought this car in 1998 with 80,000 miles and I now have 125,000 on its 3.8 liter engine. I have had no major problems but have dealt with minor things: rear brakes ($230 labor included),fog-light switch, wiper motor ($100), mass air-flow sensor($130), inner tie rods ($40, both sides), tie- rod end ($30?), and a broken fuel line ($200 w/ labor). This is my first car that I bought when I was 16 and of the few problems, I have been able to fix them all myself (except the fuel line & brakes). I still have good power even after 125,000 miles. It does burn about 3/4 quart of oil in-between changes however.

Still going . . .

I just bought this car a couple of months ago and after spending a ton of money on the suspension (previous owner rammed a curb) this car rides and runs like new. I'm looking to replace some of the plastic molding and kick panels, mainly the plastic panels that go with the seats, that were pretty well ruined in the accident, but other than that it doesn’t run or look like a car that’s 10 years old. 117,000 miles on it and according to my mechanic, the on board computer reports everything is withing 3% of spec. Not bad for a car this old.

The paint on the bumper is peeling, and there are parts coming off of the dash, but for the price, it's still comfortable (even without the leather interior) and acceptably fast. It may not have much acceleration, even after I had the injectors cleaned, and put new oil (with a hi-po oil filter) in it. This car really is reliable, after 122k miles it's still running strong, and smoothly, although the tranny doesn't seem to cater to those with a need for acceleration. The car is big too, but doesn't feel all that big. I have carried three (full)computers, and three people in the car before, with room to spare.

Recently purchased this car from a private party with 41000 miles. It was garage kept and stored winters up until this year. It is in excellent condition, and everything works as new. Loaded except for leather seats and power moonroof. Supercharger produces full boost, and because 3.8L SC engine does not use aluminum heads like the None SC 3.8, they have not and will not blow. The car's performance & comfort is amazing, & for something this old, it is truly a modern feeling car.
