I purchased this vehicle as my 1st the summer of last year. The truck itself is truly one of a kind (rare with 4x4, automatic, flare-side & 3.0) and I was really amazed when it popped up at a dealer a mile from home. Initially there were a host of issues but Ford's engineering made the problems easy to fix. The previous owner had installed the rear shoes out of order causing the truck to not have rear brakes or emergency brakes. This also warped the front brakes in the process. Because of these issues I was able to haggle the truck down to 3200$. The brake job cost me 80$ for everything via rockauto and a tune up was another 80$ too. Truck has 220k miles, on org. Eng&trans w/10k on tune/brak

My Ranger was given to me when I got my license back in 2009 from my grandpa. It only had 211,XXX miles on it. Well now it has 286,675 and still going strong. Have never had a problem, gets me from point A all the way to point Z even. Couldn't have asked for a better first vehicle. The truck may not be the prettiest thing on the road but who cares, its very dependable and gets fairly good gas mileage. Can't really complain with 18-20 around town and 22-26 on the highway. The only serious thing that needed to be replaced was the battery cable which was a cheap and easy fix.

Bought this 1993 Ranger from a friend for only $200 and have put $2,000 into repairs, including a new transmission. The truck runs great and has only a few issues. Gas mileage is OK but not great, and the clutch is pretty hard to depress. Other than that, it is great little truck for moving stuff around and saving on delivery charges. Overall, we are glad we acquired this truck!

Excellent running truck. I'm the 3rd owner of this truck. Currently it has 185,000 miles with just regular maint. I work for nys dot and the truck gets me to work in the worst snowstorms with summer tires. I do agree the fuel mileage does stink 18 mpg.

Will probably never get rid of it

Bought this truck used fresh out of college with 16,500 miles on it. It now has over 140,000 and I have loved every mile. Not going to win any races but still a lot of fun to drive. Hated to hear Ford was going to discontinue the Ranger! Great truck for 20 somethings! Don't drive it much now that I have a family but get it out as much as I can. Oil, tires, and brakes are all that I have had to replace. Even the interior still looks good. With proper care it should be good for several hundred thousand more miles.

AWESOME!

I bought my 93 ranger in October. I've made many mods to this truck and the only thing that i found is horrible is the twin i beam front suspension. Other than that its great on gas, looks (with work. mine has a 2.3 engine 5 spd manual.

Truck is small but powerful - this one has the V6 engine so it has a lot of get up and go for a small truck. Has manual transmission which tends to feel 'sloppy' with the gear selector. Had to replace engine two years ago due to oil leak and engine freezing up - still cheaper to replace engine with rebuilt one (was about $3600 to replace) than buy new vehicle. Runs fine again...good work truck. Gets about 22 mpg.

I've done a lot of work to this truck. New tranny, brake calipers, rotors, stereo, lenses, timing chain and gears, water pump, freeze plugs, new AC, fuel sending unit, gas shocks. Although I inherited it from my brother for free, I've spent over $4200 getting it road worthy again. The paint is still in great shape. Handles well.

I have had this truck in our family for about 4 years so far, when we got it it had roughly 100,000 miles give or take and 4 years after words it has 212,856 miles and I am having the transmission rebuilt by myself because my oldest brother roasted 4th gear, input shaft, and the counter gear but he drove it like he stole it. I live in Illinois and it has no rust anywhere on it.it has the 3.0L v-6 a great engine, and the F27A 5-speed tranny.i would recommend this truck for anyone but you just cant find them anymore that's the main problem people have.

I purchased the vehicle in September of 93 and it is still running strong. I drive 70 miles everyday and haul my dogs on the weekend, so the truck gets little down time. The vehicle is scheduled for it's first brake job in one week and has logged over 208,000 miles, mostly highway. The original exhaust system has a small rattle where the catalatic converter broke a weld on the shield last week, so the vehicle has costed well below the average. Outside of the normal oil changes and tire replacements, this truck has been major repair free, and Iam excited about that aspect.

I have this to say about my Ranger. They don't make them like they used to. This truck is the most solid thing I've ever owned. I was only 20 when I bought it and I was a little afraid to jump into a new truck that had totally been changed from the previous year. Best $10,270 I've ever spent. Rangers RULE the light truck world! I plan on rebuilding it from the ground up and driving it until I can drive no more.

I'll drive it until the wheels fall off.

I bought this truck brand new nearly 15 years ago and put every mile on it myself. It will turn to 00000 again for the 2nd time soon. I've only had to do regular maintenance with one or two rare exceptions over the last 15 years. This is an amazing little truck & still looks great. My car guy tells me I should easily get another 5 years out of it, if not more. Mileage is what they are advertising for "fuel efficient" trucks & SUVs right now. My sister keeps trying to get me to buy a new car so my young niece can have this truck. That says it all.

I've had my Ford Ranger 4X4 for almost a year and a half now and it has been ok to me. The engine, even though its a 93, still runs well, just a little rough on idling (probably from cheap gas and the ethanol they've started adding to fuel). It is reliable in the sense that it will move me around, but there is a serious lack of space. I'm 6'0" and I feel like I'm in a clown car when I drive. There's no way to lean the seats back enough. I enjoy driving my truck but I have to say that there are plenty of problems running around in it. I take care of my first car, but there's an oil leak I can't fix, an a/c that will cost half what the truck is worth to fix (after compressor), and a bad fuel guage

I bought my Ranger new in 1993. I now have over 200K miles. I learned how to drive a manual with it and it still has the original clutch and tranny. I do most of the routine maintenance myself. Most of it is fairly easy except for the spark plugs (the engineers must have had very small hands). The only real problem I have had was the computer would randomly open the fuel pump relay. New computer, problem solved. The engine doesn't leak oil, but I've been going through some coolant. It doesn't show up in the oil, so it must not be a real problem. The gas mileage isn't as good as when I got it, but it's still better than most other trucks (20-25 avg).

Purchased new Nov. 1993, it has 226,000 miles on the original engine. Wished I could find a new truck as reliable. My sons have learned to drive a manual shift with this vehicle and have put many miles on it themselves. Besides tires, brakes, exhaust, starter, belts, hoses, water pump, and 3 carrier bearings - everything else is original from the factory. It doesn't use a drop of oil - changed every 3000 - 4000 miles.

This is my second Ranger. The first was an '83 that had over 150k and as far as I know is still going. The '93 has been a real work horse for me and now has 100k on it. Basic mechanical wear with very little rust. I live in the Boston area and the winter conditions are hard on all cars. The Ranger has performed well. I am now looking to buy a 2005. Only because I would like some extras this time.

I bought this Ranger with 65k miles on it. I never intended to have this many miles on the truck, but it just keeps running. I had a pin hole in the radiator at 165,000; replaced the transmission, water pump, clutch and ball joints at 185,000, (nothing was broken I just thought it was time to replace before they broke. My next vehicle will be a Ford Ranger! But not until I am done with this one.

I had my ranger for six years and it was recently totaled. Up to this point it was running great. I bought it at 104,000 miles and it would still be on the rode with 193,500 miles if it weren't for that 93 year old lady that hit me. The 90,000 miles I owned it I replaced the water pump, starter, timing belt and the fan belt. This was a very reliable truck. This was the 2.3L four cylinder!

Bought new in spring '93 and it's only at 96K now;still looks/runs about as good as new. Beyond regular maintenance we've done no repairs other than replace a cracked clutch slave and deal with the poorly-designed parking brake. All the heat shields have been removed after they started to fall off (or rattle) over the years. Note: this V6 burned about 1 qt oil every 1,500 miles since it was new-- Ford claimed this was "within spec" and it's never really changed. Re-torquing the intake manifold bolts seemed to help for a while, but it certainly didn't stop the oil use.

I bought this truck new in 1993. I have had another vehicle most of the past 10 years, so the mileage isn't too high (80K). Other than the leaks others have written about, no major problems or unplanned expenses. Exterior has held up well. Interior fabrics, carpet, and trim have held up very well. It is relegated to being a hauler & airport parker (to keep my "good" car safe at home), but I'm planning to keep it another 10 years.

This has been a great truck! Honestly, I haven't taken care of it like I should have & it needs a little tranny work but it still runs great! It's got 192,000 miles with the original tranny, front & rear ends, & brake calipers. It has great brakes & the manual transmission makes it a blast to drive. I've been in newer ones and prefer my '93. It's just comfortable & fun to drive.

My ranger had 55,000 miles when I bought it in 1997, today it has 183,000. Other than the usual maintanance of brakes, tires, etc, haven't had many problems, except one. At 100,000 miles I replaced the leaky slave cylinder and put in a new clutch. At 150,000 the slave started leaking again, but this time I had the dealership fix it, which set me back about $700. Now, with 183,000, I will be letting her go soon. I have the 4.0 V6 with the 5-speed. This truck still has tons of snap, doesn't leak a drop of any fluid and ranges from 20 to 22mpg.

My Ranger has the 4.0L V6 and 5 speed manual. Purchased when I was in high school in 1997 with 55,000 miles. It was my first vehicle, so of course it was abused early in our relationship. Now, with 120,000 miles - it just won't quit. Still gets 21+ mpg highway, and the torquey engine has not faded. Replaced the clutch at 85,000 but that was the only major repair. Reliability is almost unbelievable.

Excellent, reliable vehicle! I bought it in 1999 with 72,000 miles. It is now 2003 and the truck has over 106,000 and is still running strong. I have had no problems at all with the engine. The only two items I've had to replace are the sending unit and the exhaust system. I am very good about changing the oil & filter every 2500-3000 miles and the gas & air filter every 10,000 miles, and the plugs & wires every 20,000-25,000 miles... I guess it pays off! I think this is the Ranger model I had. It was a standard Ranger with a 5 speed transmission. I drove the hell out of this truck and would still have it but I it was declared a "total" after a wreck. This Ranger was ordered with a long bed from the factory. I got ownership at about 80,000 miles. My ranger was a delivery vehicle twice, so it took a ton of abuse. I only had typical repairs such as fuel pumps, batteries, alternators, fuel filters, and so forth. Nothing major. The clutch was about to go out, but what did I expect after such abuse. I had the 3.0 V-6 and it was peppy without sucking down the fuel.

I purchased this vehicle used with 19000 miles on it I have driven it ever since with no nechanical problems. It does ride rather stiff but fuel economy is very good and reaction is very good though it only a four cylinder with dual ignition and overdrice. I do think undercarriage is more susceptible to road salts deterioration than usual. Should have better frame rust protection.

This has been a great little truck. I've never had any trouble whatsoever with it. Currently it's at 65,000 miles and running great. The mileage averages around 25 mpg which may not be too suprising since it only has the 2.3L engine, but I'm happy with it. The transmission is great, very comfortable cloth bucket seats, smooth ride, quiet engine.

I got my ranger a little while ago, and let me tell you, it's the best purchase that I've ever made. Mileage could be a bit better, but hey, I didnt get it for economy. When offroading it's second to none, my friend has a Ford F-150, and i repeatedly have had to help him out of mud that my Ranger took with ease.

I have had this truck for almost 8 years and put about 150,000 miles on it for a total of 193,000 mi. It has been a great truck, my only complaint is the size, but I guess that is why it is called a compact. Had to have the Trans. rebuilt about 20,000 ago, and other minor wearable parts. Milage is about 14 city, 16 Hwy. Overall great 4wd small truck, great off road, can get many places full size can't

My 1993 Ford Ranger is red and has an extended cab. It has good tiers. Have recently put a new fan clutch as well as a new fan. Recently I installed a front grill. The paint is good. It also has a good V6 engine. The transmission needs work but it is usesable. It could go for another 10,000 miles if not more depending on the treatment.

Had it ten years and never had a problem. Good power. With ABS rear brakes stops on a dime, saved me from having an accident when big rig suddenly pulled out in front of me on freeway.

Ok, it's a little small, but I could always rely on this truck. I hauled music equipment, mountain bikes, and people in this bad boy, and I'm talking TRIPS! I had no reservations about taking it far from home for a getaway, and it was perfect for me and my girlfriend. Don't get this if you have kids, or if you're a big and tall type. The 93 ranger is WAY reliable and super easy to maintain. I would advise to get the king cab, however. It is a SMALL truck!

My Ford Ranger only had 63,000 miles on it when I had it. It is a manual 5 Speed 4x4 STX. This Ranger has to be the toughest V6 ever on the road. I work on a farm and it easily towed a 30 ft bean header which it was not meant to pull by any means and the tranny and engine is still stout as can be and I just had the clutch replace last month. The paint and interior also looks like new. I believe it was Built Ford Tough.

I got this truck with 68K on it. It had been my Dad's and I sold my '93 regular cab at 90K. It has never been in the shop, save for minor stuff...a starter, an exhaust, a thermostat, etc. It has been well-maitained obviously, but it get's it's fair share of miles (about 17K/yr.). People STILL ask about it when I am driving it..."Wow, nice truck, etc". So, at almost 140,000 miles, it is still an absolute great, reliable vehicle that looks good, runs good and has a ton of life left in it from all indications. I would have to say that you would be hard pressed to find a better vehicle in this category. A classic lives on...

I've had my Ranger since '93 and it's been one of the most reliable trucks I've owned. It now has 173000 miles and it's still going strong. The only major repair I've had was a hydraulic leak in the transmission 5 years ago. I plan on keeping this one for a lot longer hopefully.

Overall it has been a good truck. It has taken a royal beating and keeps on going. Only problems have been that I lost the cruise control at about 85,000 miles and have to replace the brakeswitch about every six months. The transmission is about shot, but that is to be expected after 125,000. Oh-ya and the AC died last year. It has served its perpose and I will miss it as soon as I can get rid of it.

Vehicle has 218,000 miles. Oil changed approx every 5,000 miles. Still getting approx 28 mpg. Good rust resistance. Tows a horse trailer, not well, but it gets the job done. A work horse.

This truck has got to be in the running for the worst vehicle I have ever owned! The 2.3 L 4 cylinder doesn't provide enough power to get this thing out of its own way. The transmission routinely grinds going into 2nd and that's with a new clutch. The thing is reasonably reliable, but it's miserable to drive due to the lack of power. I have lost track of how many times the rotors have been cut and yet they're warped again within a couple of months. I have other Fords and am quite satisfied with them, but this Ranger is a dog. Avoid it if you have a chance.

It seems the more you work a Ford to death the longer it lasts. After laying to rest my older Ford Ranger diesel I purchased my stripped down 4 cylinder long bed in 1993. After severly beating on this truck with my needs and others it is still going strong in 2002. Other than changing the clutch and routing maitenance it is still going strong. Don't baby these trucks. They can take it.

This review is actually a post ownership review. I owned my Ranger from 1993 to 2000 (87,000 miles), and I must say that it was the best vehicle I've owned to date. The only reason I parted ways with it was because of the birth of my first child, and we needed a more practical second vehicle. I can't say enough about this truck. All that it requires from you as an owner is routine maintenance. I put my truck through nearly every imaginable combination of use and weather and it never once failed me. Never needed a major repair... actually it never needed a repair of any kind, just replacement of wear and tear parts like brakes. I miss this truck.

I purchased this truck new in 1993. Since purchasing it, the only semi major repair has been the optional replacement of the throw out bearing went out after 4 years. The truck just had it's first new set of spark plugs installed at 84,000 miles. The only complaint has been the rapid wearing of front tires. And an ABS light that went on, (and has stayed on) in 1996. The body is still in great shape with no rust. The paint looks as good as new and the interior has no signs of wear.
