If your Honda CR-V key fob is not functioning, it means the battery is dead. All key fobs utilize a CR2032 battery, a small coin-shaped type that typically costs around $5 each. These batteries can be found in the same section as regular batteries. To replace the battery, you will need to take off the back panel of the fob, which varies for different models. Some models allow you to simply slide off the back panel by pulling down, making it easy to replace the battery. However, for others, you may need to unscrew a couple of small screws, which can be easily removed with a small screwdriver.
Hey there! I stumbled upon this forum and found someone who had the same exact issue as me, so I wanted to share my own experience. It turned out that the metal strip that touches the positive side of the battery (located underneath the plastic tabs holding the battery in place) had been pressed in and was not making any contact. I realized that when I removed the old battery, it had shifted over two small plastic pieces meant to ensure contact with the battery. Using a pair of tweezers, I carefully pulled the ends of the strip forward, passing over the plastic bits so that they could spring back and touch the battery upon insertion. And just like that, everything started working perfectly again!
The most frequent issues with this are the battery failing and the key fob losing its connection to the paired car.
